orientation day
orientation day is always the most chaotic day of the year at welton academy, but now that they've added some hundred twenty new students to the mix, it's even more so
this day is always todd's least favorite day of the year, so many children are so scared to start the new year
he could relate, even after over ten years teaching at welton, he still gets nervous on the first day
charlie is having a blast tho
"the teachers are still wearing these silly little robes??? hell yeah!!!"
cameron talked to him in his office before the ceremony, like be on your best behavior
it was cameron who proposed the idea of integrating of welton and henley, on account of increasing ivy league numbers or something
charlie scolds him for stealing his idea
the ceremony is the same as charlie remembered:
fucking boring
no need to get into that
meanwhile, todd never thought he would be sending his daughter to welton or henley
however, upon hearing that welton was admitting girls now, amelia anderson asked todd if she could go, so they could be closer
todd was VERY hesitant on account of welton being Like That
(he loves his job, he loves teaching, but he does not love the school board)
but amelia usually gets what she wants (she is very convincing), so he folded
another major change to welton is that it's no longer a catholic school!
...sort of... there aren't religious classes/teachings anymore, and students are allowed to opt-out of prayers and sunday services
so, evan overstreet, a young jewish man, felt okay attending his father's alma mater
he didn't feel like he needed to hide his jewish-ness the way his father did in the 50s
(post-WWII was rough, to put it mildly)
much like his father, he's a bit of a ladies man
in that he likes ladies and he's a man, no other context
he's glad girls are being integrated into welton, maybe now he can get a girl to look at him without throwing up in her mouth
he's also glad to be attending school with his best friends, gerard pitts jr (called pittsie by his friends and gerry by his family) and stephanie meeks
pittsie jr enjoys attending welton
don't get him wrong, he loves his parents and his sisters (he's got an older half-sister and three younger sisters)
but being at home is a little difficult
his dad is rather quiet, has been since returning from vietnam apparently, walks with a cane after nearly getting his leg blown off
he doesn't like scaring his dad, and he doesn't like taking care of his dad
welton is sort of an escape from that
same goes for stephanie meeks, who knows pittsie on a family basis on account of her uncle and mr pitts being best friends
but she doesn't love her parents
well, she doesn't love her father, william
now, that may sound harsh, but if you met the man, you would understand
she loves her mother, but her mother usually follows what her husband says
stephanie was named after her uncle stephen, who heroically died in vietnam
although he could still be alive, his body was never found, so...
anyway
richard cameron jr (called richie by everyone) had a hard time making friends growing up, with his father being the headmaster of welton
but he's wicked smart
like one thousand iq smart
so he was able to reel in pittsie and evan with that and keep them with his humor
he is very funny
he is also the littlest of them
that's why evan sends him through the crowd of people trying to get their dorms and class schedules to find out the million-dollar question:
did mr anderson get the smart kids this year?
see, each subject at welton had two or three teachers: dumb, average, smart
mr anderson the last two years got the dumb students, because richie, evan, and pittsie weren't in his class
but this year, as juniors, they had to get mr anderson
they would just DIE if they didn't
"YES!!! MR ANDERSON GOT THE SMART KIDS THIS YEAR"
in the meanwhile, amelia anderson and whit brown are lost
todd's map of welton was Not helpful and they have no clue where they were
even worse, they have no idea where todd was
luckily (or unluckily) they run into mr cameron, who happened to be showing his sophomore daughter, lacey, around
lacey is a pretty girl, but also pretty shy
she follows her brother around like a dog, if not her brother, then her father
anyhow, amelia and mr cameron were already off to a rough start, because that day, amelia found out there wouldn't be girls' sports and she planned to take that out on him
she was a softball player, a catcher, she's too little to play any other position
mr cameron directs amelia and whit towards the dorms
that's where they meet stephanie and her father
amelia and stephanie are roommates
amelia automatically gets an odd feeling from william, who seems like he had a stick up his ass, always looking down on his daughter
william doesn't like amelia and whit either
he thinks whit is too nice and he thought amelia is too flamboyant, too wilde-like
stephanie likes amelia immediately
and amelia likes stephanie
during dinner, stephanie introduces amelia to the boys
amelia is kind of jealous that stephanie is already acquainted with people at this school
but she recognizes the name overstreet
she worked at a gas station over the summer
"i washed your dad's car, he tipped well"
but none of them know amelia the way they know each other
their dads are close
todd knows mr cameron, and mr cameron knows their dads, but todd anderson was never friends with them
right?
anyway, pittsie is all "did you all get anderson?"
they all have him
"yes! this'll be an awesome year, i know it!"
"you think he's as good as everyone says?" richie asks, not trying to be a dick, but his name is richard
amelia laughs, "don't stroke the man's ego"
everyone's like "??? wtf"
and it hits stephanie
"no way— are you his kid?"
"fuckin yeah, obviously"
the rest of them are all :0
todd anderson's daughter
"you must hate poetry, right?" evan says scooting closer to amelia "with your dad being, like, the most recognized name in new england?"
she stares at him "i love poetry"
nice fucking going, evan
amelia's uncharacteristically quiet that night
she wanders around the dark school for a bit, ending up at the teacher's apartments
they were there for teachers who wanted them
todd took one when amelia started boarding school
technically, this would be the first time they lived together during the school year since she was eight or so
she knocks on her dad's door and he lets her in
he remembered how he felt the first night at welton
completely isolated
it's why he felt sick having to send amelia to boarding schools
having her at welton eases him a bit, at least he can keep an eye on her
she rested her head on his shoulder while he read, a typical summer ritual for them
this year would be awfully different for them
on the way out, amelia ran into a lovely fellow
mr dalton, having just excused himself from a fascinating (read: not fascinating) conversation with another teacher, spots the young anderson walking across the lawn
in the dim light, he instantly knew who she was
the blonde hair and hazel eyes, come on, that's todd's kid
"amelia, right?" he asks
"do i know you?" she asks the strange old man following her around her school
"i have you in civics, i'm mr dalton," he says
"civics, great" amelia says, "love participating in this democracy that's failing nearly half its population"
haha yeah
she leaves that conversation as fast as possible
stephanie is in their room when she returns
"you kinda disappeared after dinner, is everything okay?" she asks
"yeah, i'm fine"
"nervous?"
amelia shrugs "i guess"
stephanie sits next to amelia on her bed "no need to be nervous, i got your back okay? anything you need, i can get you"
"all right meeks"
nice to know there's someone on her side

There’s an old Vitarian Tale that laid the foundations for Halloween in the Land. The tale is called “Chronicles of the All Hallowed War”.The Book told the story of how a Band of Hunters known as “Saint Helsing’s Order” stormed a castle in the Northern lands of what is now Speranza and defeated a mass army of Monsters in order to save a town from there twisted rule. This army was lead by two aristocratic creatures of the night. There names were never known, so the book simply credits them as “Lord and Lady Vampire”. The Lord sot to strike terror into the hearts of the people and rule the night, but these brave hunters stood up and stamped out his rule. To this day, the monsters have since carried on Lord Vampire’s will, and would strike fear into the people every October all across the lands of Vitaria! As such, to help lessen the fear, the traditions of the holiday known as “Halloween” Were formed! And now, Fiona and Adon Mimic these characters perfectly!
Adon dresses as Lord Vampire! A Twisted and Sinister Young man, he wanders the pale moon’s light seeking the blood of unsuspecting humans and creatures foolish enough to Rome at night. Adon goes into full character with this costume, using fake blood, a Skeleton Sword Cane, a ring of Illusion to mimic the pale skin and red eyes of a Vampire (Not making the same mistake his brother did last year...), he even found ways to alter the Illusion of having no reflection in the mirror, though Raziel says that’s a Vampire Stereotype. His sinister and cunning character’s charming whit is enough to make even Fiona Blush in costume.
Fiona dresses as Lady Vampire! According to the legend, the lady used to be an innocent young priestess who came to the castle searching for supplies for the alchemists, believing the castle to be abandoned...She was wrong. She was captured and seduced by the Lord Vampire’s magic, and was forced into becoming the lord’s Bride of the night. However, she fully embraced this role, Donning a Midnight Blue Gown fit for a queen and proudly ruling over the night at her lord’s side. Fiona also seems to be acting in character, as she gives herself a more Sinister and Alluring personality then her usual self. Lulling people into a false sense of security, swaying her hips as she approaches her terrified victims, She even took the time to Practice Lady Vayle’s Sinister Regal Smile. Together, she and Adon are getting far too into there roles and are doing quite a good job scaring the Humans of Vitaria into fearing the nights of October.
