Did you know that this november in France a member of the parliament has drugged another member of the parliament with the intention of raping her?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Don't worry though, his lawyer appeared on TV and offered a perfectly good explanation as to why he did what he did. See, his cat had died recently, so he was very upset. Also, a friend of his has cancer, so he was very upset. Plus, political campaigns are stressful so he was very upset. So naturally he tried to rape a woman! No but he didn't. You don't understand. Someone gave him ecstasy to make him feel better, but he totally didn't know it was ecstasy, it was just a bag of white powder, how could he have known? He put the ecstasy in a glass of champagne, as you do. But then, he changed his mind and left the glass of champagne in the fridge for god knows how long. He then invited the woman to a restaurant, then innocently switched it to "come to mine instead" and gave her the poisoned glass by total accident and tried to make her drink it super fast by accident and played with the light switch by accident and tried to prevent her from leaving by accident. It wasn't planned at all, people, it's just a big misunderstanding. I shit you not, that's what the lawyer said on live TV. Guerriau is currently being charged for drug possession and drug use as well as drugging someone with the intention of committing a sexual assault.

By the way, in 2016 this guy posted a picture of his erect penis on his official twitter account. Obviously it wasn't him who did it and he was very embarrassed by it. He claimed his twitter had been hacked and that he was going to press charges but eventually later said that he had taken care of the matter internally, that it was some member of his staff who'd done it. My guess is that someone was trying to expose him for who he is even back then. I can imagine a woman he'd sent this to doing this to him. And yet, he got re-elected as senator. Amazing. Also worth noting that he was awarded the highest title as Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur of France a while ago. I love it when men reward each others like that.

Woman Bitten by a Serpent, by Clésinger…...
This captivating marble carving caused a great scandal in the 1847 Parisian Salon. A suggestive image of a naked woman writhing from the pain of a bite inflicted by the snake twisted around her wrist, or that may be just a cover story for something else? Scandalous like few, critics claimed that this masterpiece was produced from a life cast of the commissioner's mistress, Apollonie Sabatier
- also muse to Baudelaire and known as "La Présidente" - as to claim the artist was lazy, unskilled and immodest, and pointed to the dimpled flesh at the top of her thighs to strengthen their point. Proof that there is no such a thing as bad publicity, Clésinger had his friend Theophile Gauter orchestrate the scandal to grow the sculpture's success.
Auguste Jean-Baptiste Clésinger
(1814-1883) was a painter and sculptor known for the sensuality of his works. Trained by his father, also a celebrated sculptor belonging to the Besancon school of painting, he began exhibiting in the Parisian Salon in 1843 and earned immediate success. He produced plenty of acclaimed busts, such as those of Rachel Félix, Louis of Savoy and his dear friend Theophile Gautier.
His works are displayed in places of the highest distinction such as the Jardin du Luxembourg and the Musee d'Orsay in Paris, and was much admired for the funerary monument of Chopin in the Pere Lachaise Cemetery, where he is buried himself, along with many others. After a failed marriage he met his model and mistress Berthe de Courrière, to whom he was still devoted until the end of his life. He received the Légion d'honneur in 1849.
• Height: 56,5 cm (22.2 in). Width: 180 cm (71 in). Marble, 1847.
fIr Musée d'Orsay, Paris.

Angélique Brûlon, the first woman to receive the Légion d'honneur
Brûlon and served from 1792 to 1799 in the defence of Corsica. She initially fought disguised as a man along with her husband, but was eventually discovered to be a woman. Despite this, she had shown such valour in battle that she was allowed to remain in service. She survived her husband and was proficient with sword and dagger in hand-to-hand combat. According to her comrades; "she fought with us with the courage of a heroine... with the zeal and courage of a true republican". Napoleon III decorated her as a Chevalier of the French Legion of Honour in 1851, aged 79. She was the first woman to receive that honor. The first request on her behalf, filed by Marshal Sérurier in 1804, had not been granted.

Funguary Week 1, Celestial Penicillin
I learned so much about penicillin this week!
Tumblr media
(close up of my favorite details)
Penicillin was discovered by Alexander Fleming in 1928 but it was not used to successfully treat infections until 1930. It took ten more years to isolate the purified compound version that would be used to treat meningitis in 1942, earning a Nobel Prize for Fleming, Chain and Florey (the team who isolated penicillin F).
Obviously, I took my main style inspiration from this time period!
Fleming was also awarded the Grand Cross of the Ordre national de la Légion d'honneur, which serves as the central pin in my design!
I color picked my palette from a microscopic photograph of penicillin mold and I gotta say it is pretty spectacular. This is coming from the person who made a capsule wardrobe a few years ago that consisted of navy blue, mustard yellow and white/tan neutrals though so I may be biased.
Thank you as always to @adorkastock for pose references, this one really made the piece come together in my head!
I'm unreasonably proud of that little bottle of penicillin G (thats the injectable kind), I was not sure if white liquid in a clear vial was gonna work with the colors I had available but it looks so so good!!!
I'm a huge sucker for a gauzy layer and I'm very glad I added that element (and the ribbons on the gloves) because it definitely moves it more into the "celestial" realm.
My inspiration notes for this theme were along the lines of "flowing, draped fabrics, ribbons and small metal accents" along with "haughty" for the mood side of things. Altogether, I'm extremely happy with this one! And excited for the next -- I already have an idea percolating :)

This is Marlene Dietrich in 1933 in Paris after just getting off a train.
Tumblr media
The woman helped Jews and those facing persecution flee Germany during WWII and even devoted her entire salary from one movie to helping the refugees. She went over to Europe during the war to help troop morale and even was within a few kilometers of the front lines more than once. She was awarded both the American Medal of Freedom and the French Légion d'honneur for her wartime work.
When I think of Polly Gray from Peaky Blinders, I think she'd be a lot like this great woman. They both had balls of steel.

It is disgraceful that Jeremy Brett was not given a BAFTA for Sherlock Holmes. Apart from Sherlock he was such a talented actor on screen and stage. He received the Légion d'honneur in 1994 for his role of Sherlock Holmes at a celebration marking ten years since the series aired. He received it in Manchester where the series was filmed. That is the only award that I think he got. He may be gone but he will never be forgotten.
