hi, i was wondering if you had a recommendation for boots with either jeremy stolle as the phantom or elizabeth welch as christine? i really love their takes on the characters and want to show a friend but i have no idea which videos i should try to trade for first since there's a few different ones out there with different casts and presumably different video qualities?? thanks!!
Why yes, I can recommend some videos for some of my favorite cast members!
For Jeremy Stolle, one of my first recommendations would be the March 9, 2013 video of him Samantha Hill and Greg Mills. Now, this was the first video I ever watched of him, so I'll admit there's probably some serious nostalgia glasses on, but I do think he has great chemistry with Samantha Hill, who is herself an absolutely wonderful Christine, and Greg Mills is great too (though I think he does get some points just because he's not Kyle Barisich).
Also, when this video was first streamed, the entire chat went bonkers for Stolle, so it's not just me!
Now, that video is actually not quite complete - it ends right after 'Music of the Night' before skipping to the ballet in Il Muto. If you want a complete and recent video, I would highly recommend the December 2021 video of him with Emilie Kouatchou and John Riddle. It is fantastic quality with great close-ups, it's of the current cast, and I really love Emilie Kouatchou with Stolle, they work really well together, at least in my opinon.
Onto Elizabeth Welch. Now, my first viewing experience of her was with Peter Joback and Kyle Barisich in the May 9, 2013 video, and she was great, the video is great, but I don't care much for the rest of the trio. So I might go for one of the videos of her with Hugh Panaro and Jeremy Hays. There's, like, four of them and I've never had the time to differentiate between them (they're all filmed within a one-month span anyway), so any of them would probably be fine. All are good quality as well, though the filming can be a little wonkier.
Also, I do still want to recommend the March 24, 2016 video of her in Oberhausen, if only to see her in a completely different production, singing in a completely different language, with a completely different cast, wig, and costumes. I also think her acting is a bit different as well, a little fiercer. So it's nice to see the comparison. The video is not entirely complete but it captures almost all the scenes with the Phantom, Christine, and Raoul, so it's quite nice.
Anyway, hope that helps and that you check some of those out!

This is the Playbill from the First time I ever saw Phantom on Broadway in July of 2012
Looking back, I am amazed at how much the cast has changed since 2012
The thing that really fascinated me was the Understudies featured at the time
During this time, they had not one not two but THREE Understudies for Christine
Today they only have ONE understudy for the role, and that excludes the Alternate
During this time they had various understudies for Raoul sharing the part on various days as well as Monsieur André & Don Attilio
For this particular performance, Paul A Schaefer was Raoul
But what really made my first experience at Phantom special was that I had Jeremy Stolle as the Understudy for The Phantom
I will admit, I was a litttle upset that the Understudy was on for The Phantom, but in his first scene, Jeremy Stolle immediately grabbed my attention
He was phenomenal in the role and really opened my eyes to the world of Theatre and especially Understudies, Swings, & Stand-bys
Thank You Mr Stolle 😁

Weekly Raoul Reviews
Reviewing Jay Armstrong Johnson, Nando Prado, and Kyle Barisich.
There’s been lil bit of an uproar with Jay Armstrong Johnson’s Raoul recently cause he’s so spectacularly bad. It’s impossible to convey just how terribly boring he is but I’m gonna try. The man does not crack a smile once. He doesn’t even respond to other actors. He just stands there with a dead look in his eyes. He looks bored and he is boring. Not a single muscle in his face moved once, even during the kiss he just mushed his mouth against his Christines faces. I honestly thought they’d slapped a human face on a robot and called it a day. Good god please just watch the clip of his rooftop cause you cannot possibly imagine how bad he is without watching it. (I do find him attractive though, I will admit that, the only thing his Raoul’s got going for him).
Nando Prado’s got really good energy, and seems very invested. He seemed extremely worried when at the door during The Mirror, and not a lot of actors manage to make that scene stand out so good for him. He had one or two moments on the rooftop that were kind of rough but I think I’m gonna chalk that up as mannerisms of him as an actor rather than anything to do with his portrayal. I loved his and Kiara Sasso’s kiss, a tentative soft peck and then a rather passionate snog yet still gentle. As a general rule he was rather kind and eager, so I liked him. He was rather wonderful in masquerade, I liked him reaching for Christine when she stepped forward in Why So Silent and grabbing her for a hug the minute the phantom pulled off her ring, and there’s this one little moment where him and Kiara went in for a kiss way sooner than normal and got “interrupted” by an ensemble member and ran off all giggly and it was so cute. One thing I didn’t like was that he was super rough during Madame Giry’s Tale, which didn’t feel like it fit with the rest of his interpretation.
I’m not a fan of Kyle’s voice. Too much vibrato and his pronunciation is rather strange (kind of like he’s trying to do a british accent and failing). He’s kind of dramatic, with some grand arm movements, but it generally works with his portrayal of a slightly arrogant Raoul with a few moments of vulnerability around Christine. His energy was kinda low in Prima Donna, which disappointingly carried into the rooftop. He wasn’t rough or anything, just meh. Which sucks as his AoM wasn’t necessarily a great portrayal but it was strong energy at least. And unfortunately this is pretty much the same in every performance of his. Which sucks cause he had potential as a Raoul, he just never did anything with it.

Do you know if there’s a way to find out every main christine/raoul/phantom that’s been on broadway?
This page has a pretty good list of all the main actors for a lot of productions, including Broadway. Now bear in mind that it only goes up to 2013 for Broadway; the comments below it may have additions. Also note that this list goes by brochures and such, so there could very likely be an actor that came in for a shorter time that's missing.
To fill in for the missing actors, here are the main trios since 2013 (though I am probably missing some here and there too):
Peter Jöback, Samantha Hill (Marni Raab), Kyle Barisich
Peter Jöback, Marni Raab (Mary Michael Patterson), Kyle Barisich
Hugh Panaro, Marni Raab? (Mary Michael Patterson), Jeremy Hays
Norm Lewis, Sierra Boggess (Sara Jean Ford), Jeremy Hays
Norm Lewis, Sierra Boggess (Mary Michael Patterson), Jeremy Hays
Norm Lewis, Mary Michael Patterson (Kaley Ann Voorhees), Jeremy Hays
Norm Lewis, Julia Udine (Kaley Ann Voorhees), Jeremy Hays
James Barbour, Julia Udine (Kaley Ann Voorhees), Jeremy Hays
James Barbour, Julia Udine (Rachel Zatcoff), Jeremy Hays
James Barbour, Ali Ewoldt (Rachel Eskenazi-Gold), Jordan Donica
James Barbour, Ali Ewoldt (Rachel Eskenazi-Gold), Rodney Ingram
James Barbour, Ali Ewoldt (Kaley Ann Voorhees), Rodney Ingram
Peter Jöback, Ali Ewoldt (Kaley Ann Voorhees), Rodney Ingram
Ben Crawford, Ali Ewoldt (Kaley Ann Voorhees), Rodney Ingram
Ben Crawford, Ali Ewoldt (Kaley Ann Voorhees), Jay Armstrong Johnson
Ben Crawford, Kaley Ann Voorhees (Eryn LeCroy), Jay Armstrong Johnson
Ben Crawford, Kaley Ann Voorhees (Eryn LeCroy), John Riddle
Ben Crawford, Meghan Picerno (Eryn LeCroy), John Riddle
Ben Crawford, Meghan Picerno (Emilie Kouatchou), John Riddle
Ben Crawford, Emilie Kouatchou, (Julia Udine), John Riddle
Ben Crawford, Emilie Kouatchou, (Julia Udine), Jordan Donica
Note that John Riddle has returned since Jordan's limited run and will depart October 23rd. So there will be a new trio to add to this list for the final few months.

Gorgeous Raouls
Here are some Vicomte Raoul de Chagnys who I think are really handsome. AND YES, I KNOW, all actors who portrayed Raoul are all good-looking (I mean, why would they cast him if he wasn’t?) but these Raouls are the ones who stood out.

Saturday, May 28, 2022 • 9 p.m. EST: Greg Mills, Marni Raab & Kyle Barisich (Broadway 2012)
In full disclosure, I chose this because I need something more cheerful this weekend and our last viewing of this boot was hilariously feral. There were mixed feelings about the rest of the cast, but Greg's Phantom is truly, truly something to behold.
As always, stream will be on cy.tube and shy anons are welcome. Link and password will be posted here at 8:45.
