For those back to work today following the Christmas break… how are you doing? Are you struggling? Would you like a helpful reframe? 1. Yes, it probably sucks that you’re back at work, but complaining about it won’t change a thing. All you are doing is wasting your finite time and cognitive energy and hastening your descent into a downward trajectory. This doesn’t serve you well. This is unresourceful and potentially harmful so… 2. Catch yourself on and mindfully stay present in the Now. You can remember the glorious lie ins and fun times later, but for now you have a job you’re paid to focus on, which ultimately funds your lifestyle and future dreams (e.g.: summer holiday). Focus on the things you do want in the future (holiday) rather than the things you don’t want (being at work). Energy flows to where your attention goes. 3. If you want to do and buy things without having to look at the price, you’re going to have to work without watching the clock. Brutal but true. Longing for the past which isn’t coming back won’t move you forwards in the direction of your dreams, but doing the next right thing well, and working hard, will. Our eyes face forwards for a reason. 4. Don’t watch the clock, instead do what it does and keep going. Pity parties are expensive “unnecessities” [new word] and you can’t afford them — especially if you want more from life. 5. So, you can mope after your holiday which will slow you down, sink your spirit and delay your progress, or you can choose to power towards whatever you want next. What will it be?
