Kokyou ni Nishiki o Kazaru Beshi / Return Home in Glory
Well, with recent inspiration, I have finally hunkered down and returned to the karaoke lyric + interjection translations. Might as well resume from Ishin karaoke as that’s where I last left off... a few years ago.
This song is the one Nagakura (Saejima) sings proudly. Now, this is the full version of the song, but here is the link to another video feat. Saito, aka Sakamoto singing along. For convenience, I’ll translate the interjections in time with the song, as I’ve done for Samurai Ondo before, with a bit of freedom to rearrange because this is the full version.
Lyric translations credited to this trusted site, but the interjections are all mine, baby!

* [T/N: Because Koyama-san tends to mumble a lot while he voice acts for Nagakura (and Saejima), it’s difficult for me to pick out exactly what he says, so I’m putting in a lot of guesswork. Hopefully what context I did pick up makes up for it.]
English lyrics:
Saito (intro):
Return home in glory!
Return home in glory!
Let out your victory cry, be resolute, Nagakura!
Nagakura:
Since the day I was born
Saito:
A sore!
Nagakura:
in the poor, remote country
Saito:
Ah, so then?
Nagakura:
A pride as hot as the sun
Saito:
Hai!
Nagakura:
has been burning in my chest
Saito:
You got guts!
Nagakura:
I will do it: domination of my seniors, filial piety
Saito:
Be resolute, Nagakura!
Nagakura & Saito:
and return home in glory!
Nagakura:
Father...
Saito:
Oh, Father~
Nagakura:
I won't come home empty-handed
Saito: *
Not empty-handed~
La la la la la la la la~
Nagakura:
Mother...
Saito:
Oh, Mother~
Nagakura:
I will repay my debt of gratitude to you
Saito: *
My gratitude~
Be resolute, Nagakura!
Nagakura (Saito):
Let me show you (Hai!) the Japanese spirit, (Hai!) let's let out a victory cry!
Saito:
Let out your victory cry!
Nagakura (intermission):
On a toilless night, men who’d rather idle all night
you who bring fantastic tales with them
Return home in glory!
Before you decide your place to go and head out
know that you won’t be coming back here!
Nagakura:
Memories of my youth
my friends, family and first love
I left them all behind
taking with me only a passion
Nagakura:
I'm going to bring huge glory
to my desolate, empty hometown!
Nagakura:
Come harshness or hell
Come pain or bitterness
Have faith in the Japanese spirit and put up a victory mark!
Nagakura & backup (intermission):
Return home in glory
Return home in glory
Return home in glory
Return home in glory
Nagakura (spoken):
Return home in glory!
Nagakura:
I will do it: domination of my seniors, filial piety
Saito:
Be resolute, Nagakura!
Nagakura & Saito:
and return home in glory!
Nagakura:
Father...
Saito:
Oh, Father~
Nagakura:
I won't come home empty-handed
Saito:
Not empty-handed~
La la la la la la la la~
Nagakura:
Mother...
Saito:
Oh, Mother~
Nagakura:
I will repay my debt of gratitude to you
Saito:
My gratitude~
Be resolute, Nagakura!
Nagakura:
Let me show you the Japanese spirit, let's let out a victory cry!
Saito:
Let out your victory cry!
(music)
But~ he~ failed~...
* [T/N: Given that Saito sings a part of the line that happens to be at the end in English, I decided not to split up the translated line, but you know where he interjects.
Also... bad end. :( ]
