Imagine… [older] Silco seeing Kiyna after a long time and still being in love with her. One tear coming from his eye as he realizes his “beloved” is home.

From Afar

Her laugh is the first thing he hears, and it’s as if the thick fog of years falls away. The smile on her face is a little weathered, but it is as vibrant as he remembers it to be - the glint of a golden star stirring vivid memories of shared dreams and the promise of a future together in the Revolution. Mindlessly, Silco’s hand raises itself as if to reach out - the starting syllable of her name on the tip of his tongue; what was she doing here? Would she stay? Did she even remember him?

Who is he?

She laughs again, eyes warm and hand gentle against a shoulder that wasn’t his. There is a ring on her finger.

His hand wavers before it drops.

Gentleman

Her hand was softer than he remembered as he took it gingerly, the rough pad of his thumb grazing gently across the length of her pinky as he gave it a chaste kiss in greeting; the quaint sort that he saved for whenever he required the finesse to charm Barons of the fairer kind.

He hoped the nervous tremor of his own hand wasn’t as noticeable as he perceived it to be.

“The years have been kind to you, Kiyna.” Silco said as he glanced up to her face, a faint twitch of his lips giving her a grimace of a smile that made his mouth inadvertently touch her skin again. He let it linger there as long as she let him.

She seemed pensive throughout the entire exchange, and it was only when she caught this bashful look of his that her own lips finally, finally turned up into a smile that gradually lightened into a bright laugh.

“What’s this?” Kiyna’s nose crinkled as she grinned, “Since when did you turn into such a gentleman, Sil?”

“…a recent development, I’m sorry to say.” He feels his shoulders ease as a rasp that sounds like a chuckle spills alongside his growing smile. “Disappointed?”

“Only if it persists,” Kiyna’s head tilts curiously at Silco; noting that even as their initial greeting had long since come and gone, he still hasn’t let go of her hand. “It’s just me, after all.”

“Yes,” Silco’s voice quiets as if his next words were a joyous little secret, “just you.”

Later, he invites her to dinner that very same evening and she readily agrees; the tentative embers of hope stirring deep within his chest.
