If you know me you know 3 things about me: I prefer to spend most of my time alone, I love #animals, and like #DukeEllington, i believe in signs (I’ve been following them my whole life). Today #WesleySnipes and #StunnaMan reminded me how fortunate I am to be able to pick up my phone and call one of my longtime friends and have it be like yesterday. Or to see someone i haven’t seen in forever and be able to talk about life, our experiences, then get back to the path of living it. This #music thing can come off as a popularity contest but often it makes you feel isolated, especially when your #art serves as the main way people get to know you and assume to understand you. The lens you choose to see the world through shapes you as much as it does the world around you. Sometimes, you don’t even have a choice, sometimes your choice gets taken away. These 2 don’t hangout but so often but today they pulled up peacefully for a second to look at something, together. This authentic acceptance of each other is what I live for in my interactions, even if I can’t stand to be around people for more than 4 hours. It’s taken a lifetime for me to understand being the one who is responsible doesn’t mean you have to do it all yourself or spend all your time alone in a dark room. And that it doesn’t always have to be deep, it just has to be. And that really, i am only as important as i am to others and without self acceptance i will never be able show others how important they are to me. I will be unable to give without expectation. Self acceptance shouldn’t push people away, it should draw us closer to one another. In truth it is a genuine, mutual interest that allows us, like spirited competition, to discover who we really are by bringing the best out of each other from triumph to tribulation and back again.
