People hate on Kid pirates for shamelessly surrendering, but if they try to fight back and get wrecked, those same people would call them dumb and say they should’ve begged for mercy instead :/
#one piece 1079#kid pirates#I get it though#on first read that legit gave me second hand embarrassment#but on reread i appreciate that scene more#kid pirates are a bunch of thugs and gang leaders with pride#they probably had that same “I’d rather die than surrender attitude like kid and killer#I doubt they would let anyone without that attitude to join#for them to throw their pride away and beg. they really do love kid and killer#and oda didn’t portray that as such a negative thing either#on punk hazard Tashigi gave smoker a talk about how sometimes you need to throw away pride for a bigger purpose#and usopp’s speech to kinemon and kiku about surviving no matter what#oda loves his cool manly indomitable pride moments#but he also puts similar importance on knowing when to throw away your pride for a bigger purpose#I think that’s kinda neat
