juaffordable housing is a pipe dream, a complete rarity. shitty apartment living has become the new normal for those average every day types just trying to live their lives and make everything work. now, not to say this is a shit hole, because it’s not. just creaky floors and loud pipes in the walls, and paper thin walls. other than that, there’s no rats or mice or bed bugs, so it’s a damn dream. the residents of higher stories apartment complex are closer than most. often stranded outside and complaining when the inevitable fire alarm goes off at 4am, or when the only elevator breaks down yet again. but it’s home. game nights and dinners are regularly hosted in floor 4, a floor that’s banded together more than most in crown quay.

literally this is just a cute and cliche apartment floor plot! supportive neighbours and friendships, while some fights slip between the cracks when someone’s kept other up half the night through the paper thin walls. there’s game night and dinner’s hosted. they actually say hi on elevators to other floor residents and get weird stares back at them for being friendly. will watch your dog or cat for you no problem. floor 4 in my mind is primarily made up of youngins trying to be adults and just adulting together. anywhere from 19-27ish i’ll say? figuring things out for themselves but also doing it together bc this world is harder than they thought it would be smh. hmu if u wanna be apart of this shindig.

lizzie and warren vance were (and still are!) as perfect of a match as they could be. lizzie was a vet and warren was a zookeeper who educated visitors on the importance of wildlife and conservation. after getting married and spending a few years traveling and volunteering with various wildlife, they settled down in lake lenape, ny to start their family. while they loved their jobs, they wanted to do more, and so they bought a large plot of land to turn into their very own nonprofit wildlife rehabilitation center.

the vance kids basically grew up around wildlife - large and small snakes, injured deer, orphaned bear cubs, foxes, owls. their parents believed in getting their children heavily involved on the preserve, so from young ages, they were feeding the snakes and helping their mom bottle feed the baby raccoons. their house was basically a zoo, with a seemingly endless parade of foster pets that usually turned into permanent pets.

they weren’t exactly wealthy and the money they brought in from the wildlife preserve through tours and donations usually went straight back into it. but the vances were almost like local celebrities, mostly thanks to their eccentric, overtly passionate father who runs the educational tours of the preserve and eventually landed himself a local cable show. 

obviously, the vances grew up sippin on that Love Animals Juice, and the preserve was probably all of their teenage jobs. maybe some of them still work there (like river), maybe some moved on to totally non-animal related jobs. but they’re still a really tight-knit family regardless, and their parents are still really enthusiastic about family get togethers and they’re just real wholesome (mostly). would love it if they had vaguely nature related names, but i’m not a stickler for it.

comes from a family of money but let’s just say his parents weren’t the most fitted for the parenting role / dad preferred to spend his time buried in work or gambling and women / mum was a recovering addict who was barely sober for her three pregnancies / only boy of the family and thus treated like a prince / was given everything by his father especially after the messy divorce and as a way to keep him busy and “entertained” / was a very promising hockey star in high school with scholarships for duke and dartmouth / ended down the rabbit whole by hanging out with the wrong crowds and ended up involved with drugs / has been to rehab at least three times / works as anything to earn money since his father refuses to pay off a penny more for him / raised by his two sisters p much (more to come on this) / loves his on-off girlfriend but doesn’t know how to show / doesn’t believe he deserves to be loved and cared for / a whole f*cking mess

constance native / definitely got the shortest straw with her parents obsession with alliteration / probably was born anxious / the kid that stood at the window and cried because her parents were fifteen minutes later getting home from date night than usual and she was convinced they were dead in a ditch somewhere until she saw the sweep of headlights coming up the driveway / after consulting several parenting books and a few family therapy sessions, fran’s mom decided she needed an outlet / on the first day she was dropped off at summer day camp at the local theatre eight year old frannie was fully planning her eventual emancipation from her parents because then they’d be sorry / talking to strangers? acting and singing in front of everyone? no thank you / except that she loved it / it was a relief to pretend to me someone else for a bit, to leave the jangled mess of nerves and swirling pit of butterflies she felt in her stomach like all the time / summer day camp turned into joining the fall production of annie as molly / by the time high school came around, she had already seen wicked on broadway five times and was a full fledged theatre nerd / one who took everything about performing and the “craft” incredibly seriously / did a sanitized version of hair over the summer with the same theatre production during the summer of her sophomore year and lowkey tried to start an orgy at the cast party / quickly became the star of every school production and just as quickly sort of fell half in love with her “leading man” in every school production / but they were friends so it was fine, friends who were supposed to take on the big apple together after graduation only it didn’t quite work out like that / she ended up booking a job as part of the ensemble in a big show and then it just spiralled from there / frannie was so busy with her star taking off she didn’t quite realize what she was leaving behind / just came off her first leading role in a musical adaptation of the breakfast club  / eight shows a week have left her shattered / and it’s kind of sobering to see that the thing she spent all of her life wanting isn’t necessarily everything she imagined it would be / her agent kind of wants to strangle her when frannie says she needs a break and holes up at her parents house / brings us to right now where you can find her sleeping until noon every day, watching daytime tv and haunting the local production of mamma mia like a specter.
