You’d met Carmy about six months back. Freshly moved into the apartment three doors down from him, you showed up on his doorstep a week or so later when your door got jammed and your phone had died. You weren’t sure what to do but you’d seen the blue eyed man with this unruly hair on more than one occasion and he looked nice enough. And before you knew it, he was asking you out for the first time and things took off from there.
While you’d been dating for the better part of those last six months you were still somewhat hesitant in showing public displays of affection. Carmy rarely initiated anything in public, though he would always have his hands on you if you were in the comfort of yours or his own apartment.
“Carm,” you ask, lifting your head from its place on his chest. “Can I ask you something?”
The TV playing an old hockey game is long forgotten as Carmen sits upright, pulling you with him.
“‘Course baby. What’s up?” There's a flash of fear hiding in his eyes, almost imperceptible, but you see it anyway.
“Nothing bad, promise. But since we're dating, does that mean I can hold your hand whenever I want? You don’t ever hold my hand unless we’re here or at my place.” you pout. Carmys loud laughter confuses you, not sure why he finds this so funny.
“‘M sorry baby, I didn’t think that you wanted me to be that way with you in public. ‘Course you can hold my hand in public.” He grins at you. “Was just letting you do whatever you were okay with, ‘M sorry.” He apologizes again, kissing your cheeks first before making his way to your lips.

Crysanth Mother grounded me today for yelling at the servants, which is utterly unfair. She said it was not becoming of someone of my standing. That this is not how House Kesh acts. She’s full of shit, I hate her. I don’t know why I defended her. The servants were out of line. They were insinuating that something untoward was going on between Crysanth Mother and Sovereign Immunity. It’s a laughable idea. Utterly disrespectful to imply something so base of Mother. She is ungrateful. I’m maintaining the pride and honor of House Kesh and she bans me from taking my trip this weekend! I can’t believe her. She is the one not fit for Kesh.

Mother has told me arranged political marriages are a thing of the past, something that WE do not need to do. I think she is wrong. I told her! I told her she ought to engage me to Gucci Garantine, because it will be beneficial to the Garantines and we ought to help those less fortunate than us. She didn’t even listen! She just told me I should not be fooling around. I am a Kesh, I do not fool around. She’s the one fooling around, with her ridiculous Sovereign Immunity. She just is mad she can’t marry that boring old man and is taking it out on me. I hate her. I love Mother.

It didn’t take much convincing at all to talk Gucci into stealing some of Mother’s jewelry and a bottle of wine with me! I thought she was too much of a good girl for that sort of thing, but she is a little cool. She got drunk and painted my nails in the prettiest purple hue. We sat on the ballroom’s balcony until the morning broke and the wine was gone. I thought. I thought she was going to kiss me when I put my head on her shoulder. She didn’t. And I’m glad she didn’t. It would have been awful to be kissed by her. I don’t want to be kissed by anyone.

I do not understand why Mother has not selected a new Sovereign Immunity. When Sovereign Immunity loyalty to my family was tested, he failed. He is not to be trusted. The hold this rotting old man has over her is pathetic. I do not understand what she sees in him. She has locked him up and instead of throwing away the key she has handed it to me. She is still keeping him close, like a pet she cannot put down. But I can use this. I can use him, if I just figure out how.

Sovereign Immunity thinks he is my babysitter! He has forgotten he is just a prisoner, someone who threw away everything Kesh gave him! He probably thinks Mother still cares about him. I’m worried he is right. But I will not allow him to play father to me. I am an adult and I have trained my entire life to do the work I am doing now. I’m not going to let Sovereign Immunity pretend he has power and influence and report my every mistake back to Mother. I do not need to be managed. I am Clementine Kesh. I am good at what I do.
He has wisdom, I will give him that. He has seen things due to his age and experience. I am not a fool. I know what he is worth. He is a useful tool to have in my toolbox. But he is uppity. He does not know my place. He thinks he can use me. It’s obvious in how he speaks to me. At best, we could be a team. Of course, I am team leader, but if he plays his cards right I would consider letting him be my Sovereign Immunity.
It wouldn’t be like using my Mother’s discards. It would be showing her she is a fool to have tossed aside something so willing to be used. I will use him to show her that I am more clever than her.

One thing I'm curious about for if we get the Ice Court Job in either S3 or a spin-off, is how Inej will be involved now she's free of her indenture. I do think she will still be involved in the job, same as the books, because honestly I think most of the fandom would riot if she wasn't. But it's interesting thinking about how they will set that up with the show changes that have already happened. In the books, her motivation is to get enough money to buy out her indenture – which the show has already dealt with in the first half of S2 – so what's it going to be instead?
Some options:
to earn money to buy her own ship now she's gotten a taste for it sailing on Nikolai's
to earn money to fund her anti-slavery efforts in general
possibly something to do with finding her brother? Maybe he's indentured as well and she can't sneak him out from where he is for some reason and needs money to buy his indenture out too
just not wanting the crows to die horribly attempting a plan that seems impossible without her
In practice, I would reckon it's likely to be a mix of several of those. Maybe she just likes the challenge of it even. I'm just as interested in how things go with whether Kaz wants Inej to be involved. Will it be a convenient excuse to see her, pretending it's all business with them? Or will he actually not want her involved at all, considering his reaction to her coming back for the Shu Han job and his 'why would this be what you choose to do with [your freedom]'?
I do wonder if the 2x08 lines from Kaz of 'look for a girl named Kesh,' and offering Menagerie girls work, isn't just to show character growth on his part, but perhaps to setup Kaz getting a new spider now Inej has left. In S1 Inej says Kesh is like her, she has skills, though it's not clear how literally she means that, whether Kesh could do the same thing for Kaz that Inej did. But if so, maybe he plans the job with Kesh in mind for the incinerator climb initially, assuming Inej still isn't an option or not wanting Inej involved.
Which could cause tension if Inej's feathers are ruffled by feeling like she's been replaced, even though it's necessary and Kaz is eminently practical in most cases when it comes to his business. Or there could be tension if she knows they do need her specifically to succeed but Kaz is risking the job to keep her out of it - I'd say that's a not very Kaz thing to do, risk a job like that and yet for the reason of protecting Inej I could possibly believe it. Anyhow, I really hope we get to find out how that all resolves because there's interesting possibilities there.

I’m feeling exceptionally well today. (It’s only the third day, I know, but all the same I’m feeling great.) I had a visit this morning with two reporters, David Beresford of The Guardian and Brendan O Cathaoir of The Irish Times. Couldn’t quite get my flow of thoughts together. I could have said more in a better fashion.
