“You arranged a marriage with an American?” The surprise and wistfulness of the statement catches him off guard, even as he shuffles closer to his ailing father. Miguel Gutierrez has never claimed to understand Javi’s affection with America or American Cinema, although they have shared a affinity for Nic Cage. He reaches out and takes his father’s hand, knowing he won’t fight his papa in his last days. “I hope you have chosen well.” He murmurs softly, wondering what this woman is like. His future queen.

“Her mother was friends with your mother at university.” His son’s affection for American pop culture was something he had attributed to his late wife’s own affection that she gained at university. He never understood it for the life of him, but it made her happy to share it with their young son, so he let it pass. “She will be here tomorrow, provided that she is able to travel quickly. The flight from New York is not too tiresome.”

“Tomorrow? So soon?” Javi shakes his head, reeling from the changes that are happening so quickly. “When- when do I have to marry her?” He asks quietly.

“Before the year is out.” The terms of the agreement with the Senator over the marriage of their children was exacting, to say the least. “Seven months is ample time to know her before you walk down the aisle, Javier. But it is more time than I have. So if you wish me to be present when you wed, it must be sooner.”

Javi closes his eyes, wanting to scream and cry and refuse his father. He cannot. He cannot let down the king, the man who has intimidated him and been his idol for his entire life. “We will be married in two months.” He decides, his voice flat. Certainly not happy about the circumstances, but he wants his father at his wedding, he will already miss his mother. “We will get to know each other later.”

Hi Connie! I love reading soulmate sundays every week (I always look forward to it!) and I’m beyond happy at how Down The Rabbit Hole wrapped up before the epilogue (no I’m not crying what are you talking about).

I’ve always wondered a bit about your writing process with Keri. The stories seem so well planned out—do you plan them out completely at the beginning or in chunks as you go? It’s also so cohesive—do you each have certain parts that you like to write separately from each other or do you work together on most things?

Thank you so so much for blessing us with these amazing stories. I’m so excited to see what you’ll do next.

@absurdthirst and I have kind of two modes. One is “I just had this really fun idea and I’m excited about it, let’s just see what happens!” And the other is more of a logical planning situation. We have a big list of ideas that we work from and are always adding to it, meaning that some ideas will sit for a year or more and some ideas get written right away. Basically, we write about what we’re most excited about in the moment.

The soulmate stories always get more planning. They are the longest things we write so we always make sure to have a solid line of thought going into them, and sometimes even secondary characters. But every single word gets written together, always collaboratively, and it helps keep things really interesting and challenging. There has never been a single day of writing with Keri where I haven’t been excited to continue, even if sometimes I’m apprehensive (her smut is still miles ahead of mine, but this summer I’m going to try to branch out!)

Choosing the next soulmate story was a topic of huge debate, actually, and we changed our mind lots of times because we have so many ideas on the list that we are excited about in the future. We are excited though, to embark on a new adventure.

You and @absurdthirst always come up with the most intricate back stories for your characters. How do you two come up with all of it?

So the ultimate truth here is that everything is collaborative. We start spitballing ideas together and come up with the necessary framework - what the characters need to be like for the plot to move forward.

From there? It’s just fun. Inspiration strikes as we write and sometimes the unlikeliest outside source is a great influence over the story we end up writing. And sometimes there are whole threads of planning and backstory that never make it onto the page (screen). The Alewife has an entire menu, for instance. YSV Dieter and WYWH Buttercup/Daisy have entire family trees. Sometimes we do things to surprise each other - like @absurdthirst making KW Dave a native Rhode Islander, which is my home state!

My big indulgence, though, is clothing. I like to pick out reference outfits for each chapter as we write, so that if referencing specific shoes/jewelry/skirt length/etc is ever part of the scene we have the same clothing in mind. Each reader insert has their own closet in a file folder on my laptop that I like to play around with. I like to pick out wedding details too! 😆

Character development is something we love, and we love to have fun with it. Sometimes a line we think will be throw-away ends up being vitally important down the line. The fun is in finding out 🌹

TRIPLE FRONTIER PIRATE AU? Can we please have a preview? 👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀

From Chapter 1, as our pirates board a merchant ship to abduct a certain young lady (our reader):

“Stand aside,” Pope growls. “No one else needs to die. We will go through you.” He knows the men are ready to just kill them to get at the girl, but he doesn’t want to kill these men. It’s an unfortunate by-product of what they are now. Now longer respectable men, but lawless pirates. The king’s contract not protecting them any longer after the betrayal. 

“Kill them.” Catfish hisses, gripping his swords, one of them taken off the body of a fallen officer. His face is set, practically snarling it in his want to get the girl and get out of the area.

“We’ve no cargo and no gold.” One crewman speaks up, though the undeniable scent of fresh urine belies the courage he’s showing in trying to negotiate with pirates. “If you’re after provisions or supplies, just take them!”

All four men on board chuckle, Will shaking his head. “We’re here for the girl.” Pope announces, saying your name clearly. “She’s important to Lorea, so we want her. It makes her worth more than gold. More than your lives.”

Will there be more parts to the "together" universe?

Yes!

The Together Universe is where @absurdthirst and I like to visit when the mood strikes, so it has no set schedule or chronology. That being said, we have definitely discussed a few more highlights in the life of that happy poly fam that we want to visit.
