“Ben,” Myles kept his voice calm. “I was looking for you.”

Jango’s head whipped around, staring at Ben in shock. There hadn’t been time between stumbling on the fight and getting involved in the fight for Myles to explain just who it was they’d just found.

Ben’s gaze darted toward the street again. “Why’s that?” Ben asked, tone not-quite conversational. He sounded exhausted, Myles noted, even with only two words to judge and Myles could hear the strange slowness to the words that came when a person was struggling to string a sentence together.

Myles tapped at his ribs where the two lies lay. “Found a few scars on my body that hadn’t been there before.”

We did it!

Our second year of Kenfetti Week has reached its end and we mods would just like to thank everyone who made it possible. To everyone who participated via creation of works, sent in prompt suggestions or asks, boosted the creations of others, encouraged participating creators when they were feeling down, left feedback on either the works or the event itself, and to every member of our little Discord server, we appreciate you and your contributions so much and hope to see you again next year (and for all Kenfetti Weeks to come)!

We're especially pleased to note that the Kenfetti Week parent collection now accounts for nearly 10% of all Jango Fett/Obi-Wan Kenobi works on AO3.

Like this, Obi-Wan can almost believe that the clone troopers working and training and eating and sleeping and living right beyond the closed door of Obi-Wan's stateroom were modelled after him; that the man sleeping right now in Obi-Wan's narrow bed, naked as the day he was born and looking like he has no care in the world, allowed himself to be cloned a million times in exchange of a child and more credits than most sentients can even imagine.

It smelled of nothing. The water was always cold, cold and unmoving, and they bathed there, sometimes—it was deeper than it looked, so deep their feet wouldn’t touch the bottom. There were stories about kids drowning there, about ghosts haunting its edges, but Obi-Wan thinks he never really believed any of them. He didn’t need stories: he had the truth.

The pond wasn’t a pond. It was an eye. A round, unblinking eye, staring blindly at the sky, peering at their world, always watching. Keeping watch, maybe.

Obi-Wan doesn’t know how he knew, how he still knows—but he does. Sometimes water isn’t water and sometimes bodies of water are bodies of some other kind.

The pond that wasn’t a pond was an eye, and it kept watch, and it never went away, and it killed everything that tried to grow in it, around it, and sometimes Obi-Wan thinks they left because if they had not, it would have taken them, too.

He looks away. Jango doesn’t reach out to him, though he wants to. Manda knows how or why, but he wants to tangle his fingers in the loose fabric of his thin tunic, under the worn leatheris jacket he remembers from last time, and tug at him, tug him closer, brush a kiss on that lying mouth of his.

Obi-Wan clears his throat again. “I need a shower,” he says, and then he’s leaving the room, as quiet as he entered it, and Jango scoffs: he laughs at him and at himself.

Timeline: Prompt Submissions Open: April 17th 2023 Prompt Submissions Close: May 15th 2023 Prompt Reveals: May 20th 2023 Works Due: July 1st 2023 Works Revealed: July 9th - 15th 2023

Prompt Submissions - April 17th Using the Google Form, submit any and all prompts you wish to be considered for use during the event. You may submit as many prompts as you wish, but please submit only one prompt per form. Prompts are submitted and accepted with complete anonymity. Prompts will be accepted all the way through May 15th, so nobody misses their chance to submit their prompts.

Prompts Reveal - May 20th After May 15th, the mods will close the Google Form and no longer accept any more prompts for consideration. On May 20th, the prompts for each day of Kenfetti Week 2023 will be revealed here on the blog and in our 2023 Subcollection and creation for the event can begin!

Works Due - July 1st All works for Kenfetti Week 2023 are due by the end of July 1st. Any works submitted after July 1st will be accepted or rejected at the discretion of the mods.

Works Reveals - July 9th - 15th All works submitted to the Kenfetti Week 2023 Collection will be selectively revealed according to whichever day of Kenfetti Week it was created for. e.g. all works for Day 3- 2023 will be revealed on July 11th, all works for Day 6- 2022 will be revealed on July 14th, etc. Please feel free to also post your works here on Tumblr on the correct days as well. Tag the work using #kenfetti week 2023, or @ the blog directly, and we will reblog your work for others to enjoy! We will also be creating round-up posts for each day's works, and a masterpost of them all, so hopefully nobody's works are lost in the rush.

Note! Due to the semi-hidden nature of the collection, works will be backdated in the AO3 Kenfetti tag and thus may be missed by readers looking through the tag for updated/new works. To rectify this, it’s recommended that authors edit their works’ publication dates—found at the bottom of the Associations box, between the multiple chapters tick-box and the language selection—to the day of each work’s reveal. Publication dates cannot be set in the future, so each of these will have to be manually changed on the day they are revealed so as to appear properly in the tag.
