I talk a LOT about how important it is to ao3 authors to recieve comments, but I don't think I thank my commenters enough.
This post is a huge thank you to the Captain Swan fandom. You guys were the first fandom I regularly posted fics for, and I could always count on recieving two to five comments on a fic within the first day of posting, from @tiganasummertree 's almost religiously posted comment on every single fic in the fandom to a long rambled comment from @booksteaandtoomuchtv and the flailing in my dms from @kmomof4 and also everyone else, though I don't have time to list you all. You guys are a fandom who knows how to treat your authors well and with lots of love and support, and the thing that makes me saddest about how quickly I've shifted fandoms is all the encouragement from you guys that I'm missing out on.
I love all my old cs shipmates so much, and hope you have a lovely day!

📝 + swirl, please?
I searched every work-in-progress of mine, but the only one I could find is technically no longer in-progress, and is instead actually written, so I thought I'd share this snippet from it!
"Karabast," Ezra muttered, jumping back a bit by instinct from the blue milk that overflowed from the glass he was pouring it into and spilling all over his hand, and now onto the floor.
"I should know better than to pour myself a drink when Sabine enters the galley," Ezra thought, setting his drink down on the counter behind him as he searched for a cloth to clean it up with, "a Jedi has to stay focused."
"Need a hand?"
He heard Sabine's voice behind him and turned around quickly— too quickly, as his forehead rammed into her helmet.
"Ow!" Ezra said, wondering what could possibly make an armor that hard.
"Sorry," Sabine said, and her gloved hand touched the now-sore spot on his forehead, "are you alright?'
"I'm fine," Ezra said, ignoring the pain in his forehead for the moment. He'd dropped the towel, and now he swirled it around the floor with his foot to clean up the spill, knowing that as bad as the injury was, it couldn't be nearly as bad as what would happen if Hera caught sight of the mess he'd made. "My forehead isn't dented, is it?"
"I'm no medic," Sabine said, opening the conservator and scrounging around in it, "but it looks like it'll be the opposite. At least you'll be able to make up one of your elaborate stories about the bump it'll leave."
"Oh yeah," Ezra said, "about how I accidentally went head-to-head with a Mandalorian and ended up almost literally crying over spilled milk."
She laughed a little at his attempted joke, then pulled a frozen bag out of the conservator.
"Put this on it," Sabine handed it to him, "that'll numb the pain and slow the bruising, or something like that."
"Thanks," Ezra said, and as he pressed the bag of frozen rations to his forehead, Sabine bent down and finished taking care of his mess on the floor.
"What happened, anyways?" she asked.
"I guess I got distracted," Ezra said, still distracted by her.
"While pouring a glass of milk?" Sabine asked, looking up at him quizzically before turning back to her work of drying up the floor.
"Yeah," Ezra scratched the back of his neck.

🥤🍄🌻🍬🪲 for the other writing ask game!
🥤 ⇢ recommend an author or fanfic you love
@jessicas-pi. Her works are always the perfect balance of fluff, comedy, angst, and the most perfectly unhinged chaos imaginable.
🍄 ⇢ share a headcanon for one of your favorite ships or pairings
this is suspiciously similar to my answer when iris asked me this one, but I have this silly little headcanon I sketched somewhere where Ezra dyes a stripe in his hair that matches whatever color Sabine's hair happens to be dyed, and Sabine does a blueish-black stripe in her hair that matches Ezra's hair.
🌻 ⇢ tag someone you appreciate but don't talk to on a regular basis
@laughingphoenixleader, @kingofbr00klyn, @whaleiumsharkspeare, and really all of my little tumblr buddies!
🍬 ⇢ post an unpopular opinion about a popular fandom character
Miguel O'Hara from Spiderverse is mid. I have no beef against him, but I also don't get the appeal surrounding him, either. I literally had to block his tag just so the spiderverse tags can be usable.
🪲 ⇢ add 50 words to your current wip and share the paragraph here
Evil Question. Absolutely diabolical. Nonetheless, here:
"The rules of his youth had been something akin to "better seen and not heard," and when you spend so long in silence, you train yourself to do a good deal of listening, of watching and waiting and doing your best to quietly piece together what all of it means."
Also, I think it's hilarious that they thing fifty words is a "paragraph." I'm writing The Shuttle fanfic; fifty words is barely a sentence.

F and R for the book asks???
F. Fictional Character You Would Have Dated In High School.
this is a very nuanced answer but i am so glad someone asked. to be perfectly honest, teenage Kazzy definitely had a crush on Poe Dameron from Star Wars, and also Clay Moorington from Lego Nexo Knights.
R. Reading Regret
The only reason I don't regret reading Rip Van Winkle is because I like having a least favorite short story, and the only reason I don't regret picking up Smuggler's Run is because I think how horribly dry that book is is inspiring, in a way.
thanks for the ask! loved these questions!

👑 kingdom trap
👑 kingdom trap
This is one of my Cygnet Scholar (Hope Swan Jones/Gideon Gold) AUs, and it's set in the Enchanted Forest as a kind of "no curse au."
In this version, Hope grows up as a princess, the granddaughter of Snow White and Prince Charming. Snow and Charming only had one child, Emma, who also only had one child, Hope, and Hope has spent her entire life preparing to take the throne. However, by some magical miracle, Snow White has a child in her old age, and it's a son. By the laws of the kingdom, the throne that Hope has been preparing her entire life to inherit now falls to her infant uncle instead.
Rather than do something stupid like plan to assassinate a baby or whatever a twisted mind would do in one of these stories, she realizes there's more than one way to be a queen— all she has to do is find an eligible crown prince. Fortunately for Hope, there happens to be a prince who fits that description in the next kingdom over: Prince Gideon, the son of Queen Belle.
The only flaw in this plan: around the same time Emma married Hope's father, the once legendary and vengeance-seeking Captain Hook, Princess Belle of their neighboring kingdom married the elusive and nefarious Dark One. Although both have since reformed and claim to have mended their villainous ways, there's still a tense hatred between Captain Hook and his crocodile, and their two kingdoms have ceased all trade and forbidden all communication between themselves, at risk of a full fledged war breaking out between them.
But when Hope sets her mind to something, there's little anyone can do to stop her, and she sneaks out of her castle on a secret diplomatic mission: to win the heart of Prince Gideon and find a place to rule on the throne of her father's sworn enemy.
here's a little snippity snippity of it!
"What did you say your name was?" Gideon asked.  "Hope," she said, then rolled her eyes a little, "Princess Hope. Of…."  "Misthaven," Gideon finished when she hesitated, "I was unaware you were in attendance this evening."  "And you are?" Hope asked, though he could tell she already knew.  "Prince Gideon," he said, with as much regality as he could, "of, well, here." He shrugged and gestured to the castle behind them, and heard her laugh a little.  "I guess someone's been studying interkingdom relations," she said.  "And from what I've heard," Gideon crossed his arms, "Misthaveners haven't been welcome in this kingdom since your father took the throne."  "Really?" Princess Hope asked, stepping closer to him with a coy smile, "because from what I've heard, you don't seem to care for the rivalry anyways."  "Rivalry, or war?" Gideon asked.  "It's hardly either," she said.  "Regardless," he said, "if it's not war, entering that ballroom could still be the start of one. Why would you risk attendance at this ball?"  "The same reason you don't seem to mind that you're running late for it," Hope said, "I'm taking my story into my own hands— and I need your help to do it."

🏀 🎃 🦚 for the mutuals ask game, please!
🏀: Share a line from your latest WIP
I'm in the middle of a ton of wips right now, but Skyguy suggested I share a line from the fic where I give Sabezra the Obitine backstory:
"We're sorry to have to do this, ma'am," a voice on her other side said as she felt a gag wrap around her mouth, "we just gotta make this look like a kidnapping. Which, I guess, technically, it is anyways, since you didn't come with us willingly like your mom asked us to. Uh anyways…."  "Padawan Bridger," the other voice whispered sharply, "mind being a little quieter while we're staging a kidnapping?"  "Yes, Master."
🎃: Hogwarts House?
If you're accepting hybrid houses, it's Grifflepuff. If not, while I'm online I feel more like a Hufflepuff, but irl I'm a bit more of a Griffindor.
🦚: Share your first OC
I talked about Seventy here, but I also have a ton of Lego Nexo Kinghts OCs I made up for the Nexo Knights fic I wrote as a teenager. Almost all the knights in that universe had names based on the weapons they use, so I ended up researching medieval weaponry from different countries to name them! The ones I came up with were Bludj Eon, Scim Tarman, Zway Hander, and Callum 'Cal' Tropington, though if you read the fic, you'll find that one of them isn't technically an oc 🤐

Got some asks for ya!!! How about 🍬 🌿 🔪🧩???
HI FRIEND!
🍬 ⇢ post an unpopular opinion about a popular fandom character
This may come as a shock to a lot of people, but I don't naturally care for Jack Sparrow very much. I love the Pirates movies, but he doesn't really do it for me as far as blorbos go; he doesn't really stand out to me. (This is not hate against him, and this is not me asking people to tell me why I'm wrong. This is just my gut reactions to his character, ok?)
🌿 ⇢ give some advice on writer's block and low creativity
If you're stuck when writing, forget you're writing. Think about the characters as people, not people you're making up, but people you're watching. If you were witnessing a conversation between these characters, what do they say? If they come to a rough place, what do they do? How do they respond to this situation? If you can't answer this question, then you might need to get to know them a little better. For fanfic, jump back into the source material and see how they've responded in similar situations. For ocs (and hey, maybe existing characters as well,) find an ask game, and answer a bunch of questions about them. Don't just look for the normal oc "what's their driving motivation? What's their end goal?" Fill in mundane details. Find out what color their bedsheets are. Do they wear socks? What's their favorite food? Have they ever gotten stage fright while public speaking? Get to know your characters.
Also, in doing this, you may find that your character has gotten themselves into a situation they would never get into in the first place. In fact, maybe there's a lot of sections that just aren't them, and that's part of what's tripping you up about them. When you get to this point, don't be afraid to cut stuff out. I know it feels like chopping off a limb to do this, but trust me, your story will improve. I highly suggest making a separate file just to put those fat trimmings you cut off. Maybe you'll use them later, maybe you won't, but having a place to put what you don't want will make it easier to keep only what you do want.
🔪 ⇢ what's the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?
For Captain Swan fanfiction, I've looked up how to do stuff like wash your hands one handed. For The Shuttle fics, I've looked up a LOT of customs and traditions and phrases from the early twentieth century. For a lot of my Beauty and the Puppet fics, I've looked up old books and novels and short stories for the characters to offhandedly mention. And for SEVERAL fics, I've looked a lot at Victorian flower language 😂
🧩 ⇢ what will make you click away from a fanfiction immediately?
Smut and NSFW innuendo is gonna make me backtrack as fast as I can. Excessive mischaracterization can also be a huge turnaway for me!

📝 + fire
In all my unfinished wips, I only found the word "fire" once— in a snippet that Skyguy and I were working on in the sabezra gamergirl au. Here it is!
The Flood surrounded her. In an unexpected turn of events, the creepiest enemy in the entire Halo saga had been introduced. She fired her assault rifle at the hoards of Flood crawling on the ground. The salvo was effective, but costly. She had forty rounds plus one full clip, but that wouldn’t be enough. As she walked the character up some stairs, she found allies, and promptly borrowed their ammo. At the end of the swamp, she encountered the monitor, and watched the cutscene at the end of 343 Guilty Spark. "Sorry guys, gotta stop the stream for the night," Sabine said, "it's well past midnight here, and I've got an eight a.m. class." She watched the comment section flare up with "awww"s and "goodnight"s and "you can definitely cram in another solid hour or two if you get enough coffee in the morning"s, then signed off the stream.
i promise you guys, i am working on this one!

For the ask game: 7, 9, and 13, please! And happy 2024!
7. Share a line/paragraph/snippet that you were especially proud of from a work this year!
I answered this here, but I'm more than excited to share another! This is from one of my Sabezra fics, The Bad Day
"I need you to give me a hug," she said, quickly, sharply, as if upset at herself for saying it and stopping herself from stopping herself.  Ezra turned to her and smiled at the sight of her, but with deep confusion in his eyes.  "What?" he asked, then shook his head and blinked a couple times, "wait, why? Is everything okay?"  "I'm not talking about it," Sabine said, knowing what would happen if she tried to talk about it, and not ready to cry right now, "I just need a hug. Don't make me change m...."  Before she could finish speaking, she was in his arms. On any other day, if she'd even let him get this close, she would've complained that he smelled like Loth Cats and mechanical failures, and about how sweaty he was, and how whatever kind of starship grease he'd been using was all over his hands and staining her shoulder pauldron and her sleeve— but with everything that had happened that day, she almost didn't notice, and if she did, she certainly didn't care.  He'd pulled her in so quickly, she hadn't even the chance to hug him back— not that she needed to, instead clinging onto Ezra's shoulders in front of her as tightly as she could.  She wasn't sure when he'd gotten taller than her, but she was glad that he had, because his heart's gentle beating beneath her ear calmed her own heart rate down as well. She hadn't noticed how cold she'd been until Ezra's arms closed around her, his warmth quickly spreading from her back and arms all the way down to her toes and her fingers.  "Is this okay?" Ezra quietly asked.  "Yeah," Sabine whispered.
9. What are you most proud of accomplishing in your writing goals this past year?
Non fic-related, I finished the first draft of my novel and wrote the second, as well as publishing a short story! Fic-related. I'm proud of learning how to write (and imo mastering the writing process of) drabbles, because that 100 word count is hard to stick with, so I'm glad to teach myself that brevity! I'm also proud of how many fandoms I've written for!
13. What fic are you most excited to post in the upcoming year?
Either the gamergirl sabezra au, or the captain swan romeo & juliet & boybands au!
thanks for the ask, friend!

5, 7, 8, and 13 for the WIP ask game! 😁
JESSICA!!!!! HIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!
5. What fic surprised you with how much interaction it got this past year?
I know I mentioned Wishing it Wasn't when Hazel asked, but I also want to give honorable mention to This is (Kinda) The Way. I'd hoped it would do well, but was blown away by not only the lovely comments and kudos on ao3, but also all the interaction it got on tumblr. It was at the top of the sabezra and ezrabine tags for a couple days (and if you've blocked as many tags as I have you'd've seen it at the top of the sabine wren tag too,) which was such a huge encouragement to me as I recovered from my unfortunate accident 😅
7. Share a line/paragraph/snippet that you were especially proud of from a work this year!
I'm gonna go with this section from As The Sun Rose and Seasons Changed, because I waited almost a decade to see these two idiots from The Shuttle get engaged and am very glad to have been the one to do it:
"There's a reason I brought you out here today, Betty," he smiled, "you've always been clever, so I know you know what I'm going to ask you, but I'm going to ask it anyways, and it's going to be the most terrifying moment of my life."  "You've no reason to be afraid, James." She rarely called him by his first name rather than his title, but now it felt proper to do so.  "You've no idea what I fear to lose, Miss Vanderpoel," he said, "I know of your love for Dunstanwolde, and your disdain for its condition– and of my love for it as well. If all I were offering was my land and my title, to watch from the sides as you touch all around me with your life, I'd give even that. But what I ask is something deeper. I do not ask you to love a sullied name or a crumbled ruin. I ask you to love the man who holds nothing besides them," and here he took her hand and said, "I'm asking you to love me."  Still holding her hand, he knelt before her, one knee supporting him on the damp earth his ancestors had killed for and died on. Out of his pocket he pulled a ring, and held it before her.  "Bettina Vanderpoel," he asked, "will you marry me?"  He wasn't the first man who'd proposed to her– but somehow she'd hoped all along that he would be the last.
8. What's your favorite work you posted this past year?
if you think I'm gonna say the same thing I told Hazel and Iris, you are dead wrong.
Even though it's not perfect by any stretch of the word, I'm gonna say How We Rewrote the Stars. I intended it to just be a oneshot and posted it as such for sabezra week, but added more chapters after the fact. It was my first time posting an uncompleted work, which has always worried me because what if I wanted to change something? What if I messed something up in the first chapter? However, I took a leap of faith {which, fun fact, is the name I would've posted it under had I left it as a oneshot} and tried it out like that, and I'm proud of that!
13. What fic are you most excited to post in the upcoming year?
I'm very much hoping to finish the Gamergirl Sabezra AU by the end of the year, and can't wait to share it with you guys. I'm also working on a Captain Swan fic I've lovingly nicknamed the "romeo & juliet & boybands au." I haven't posted anything for Captain Swan since June, and that's the CS fic I have the most motivation to write, so it'll be lovely to post for such a lovely fandom again!
thanks so much for the ask!

No Order 66 AU for the game? :)
you got it!
Sabine stared at the mountain face in front of them as her "kidnappers" both helped her off the speeder bike, each of them holding onto one of her arms, probably so she wouldn't run off— which was excellent foresight, because that's exactly what she wanted to do.
kick-in-the-pants writer’s game!
