Well since we’ve started speculatin’ already—- what do you think a good Kar’niss companion quest would be? Finding memories of who he used to be? Exacting revenge as well? Maybe just coming to accept himself and calm the eff down through FRANDSHIP. Maybe his whole quest is just slowly learning to trust tav more until completely aligning his goals with theirs (so if ur dark urging he will twitchily ask when it’s time to kill somethin; if you are not he wants to be a good nice boy).
There are lots of directions to take Kar'niss in. For the sake of time I'll focus more on the "good" paths as I think the bad are easier to predict.
-His top priority would be finding a way to undo his transformation. His drider shape is arguably very cool but it's not comfortable. Driders are in constant pain, not to mention it'd be hell on earth trying to fit into surface society looking as he does. What if Tav is a shorter lived race? Drow can live for up to 750 years and we have no idea how old Kar'niss is. If Tav dies and Kar'niss is still a drider, who will be left to protect him from dark entities that would use him for coin or other means? So I think from a storyline standpoint, that'd likely be Kar'niss' main goal.
-Another option is, as you mentioned, revenge. If Tav breaks him from the Absolute's hold and he realizes that he's been used he will become enraged and gung-ho to take them out.
-The third, which can run in conjunction with the other two, is healing his broken mind. I've mentioned this before but I don't believe Kar'niss can ever fully recover. It's simply not how trauma works. People may find ways to cope, to go on with their lives and maintain a speck of normalcy, but the damage is already done. He will have bad days, he may even continue to have psychotic breaks that Tav will have to find ways to work around. That doesn't mean his situation is hopeless of course. He'll still be grateful to have some sense of autonomy returned to him, to have someone close by that loves him for who he is, flaws and all. In return Tav gains someone who is incredibly loyal and affectionate, a protector and a confidant.
His is, like most of the companions, a sad case. I feel like BG3's main theme is about different kinds of trauma and how people cope. It's a nice narrative through-line and Kar'niss is primed to be included in the growing list of sad meow meows folks keep running into.
Thanks for the ask!

BG3 Companions: How They Spend Valentine's Day ❤️️
A/N: For the sake of this hc, imagine there’s a Valentine’s Day in Faerun, okay? And sorry it’s so short. This has been a week from hell lol.
TW: Mentions of Sex; MDNI
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Astarion:
Wine.
Sex.
Did I mention wine?
NOT because it’s Valentine’s Day, but just because he was in the mood.
Really hates the idea of having to ‘perform’ for a certain day. It reminds him of… less-than-pleasant things.
Appreciates it if you make your own holiday, an Anti-Valentine’s Day.
Spends it downtown in Baldur’s Gate where the two of you sit and couple watch, whispering mocking commentary back and forth. Celebrates tf out of that with you.
Tumblr media
Gale:
Makes plans months in advance then forgets about them the week of.
Surprises you with matching house robes and chocolate after Tara reminds him.
Has to take a bouquet of flowers to his Mother but promises you the perfect evening once he returns.
Candlelit dinner, wine, a homecooked meal… the works.
And yes, you can bet your bottom dollar the works involve a Gale astral plane threesome come nightfall.
Tumblr media
Wyll:
Romantic af about it
Greets you with roses and chocolate before kissing the back of your hand.
Extra affectionate, as if you’re still in the infatuation phase, no matter how long you’ve been together/married.
Has important work to do around Baldur’s Gate but takes you out for a romantic dinner at a fancy local restaurant.
Tumblr media
Karlach:
Gets Withers to send you two to the surface for the entire 24 hours.
Plans on taking you everywhere and experiencing everything
Shows you off around town, complimenting you loud enough for everyone to hear.
Sets aside a large chunk of the nighttime for sex. Enough to ride your brains out.
Seriously, all the sex.
Tumblr media
Shadowheart:
Very coy about it.
Spends most of the day as if it’s just another borning on.
Surprises you with a night in, your favorite food, and some soft music playing in the background.
Plans a romantic bath for you two, with bubbles and floating candles, and of course, tall glasses of wine.
Wants it to be special, but also relaxed.
Tumblr media
La’zel:
Acts like she doesn’t care for such a indulgent day
She does, like totally does.
Lowkey expects YOU to surprise her.
But she will relent eventually, telling you all the things she appreciates about your relationship as the two of you share a meal.
It’s as vulnerable as she gets.
And of course sex. The kind that leaves you walking funny for a week after.
Tumblr media
Halsin:
Whittles you a figurine of two bears kissing in front of a heart-shaped moon.
Spends much of the day with the children, helping them write Valentine's letters of their own.
Plans an evening where the two of you can go off camping alone, and spend time just with each other in nature, under the stars.
Bear sex? Bear sex.
Okay well, maybe just old-fashioned non druid wild shape sex but he makes sure to emphasize YOUR enjoyment.
Tumblr media
Minthara:
Plans a coup for the very same day.
Only celebrates your holiday if the two of you win.
Drinks to both the fall of your enemies and her affection for you.
Makes sure she gets her rocks off first in any intimacy you share.
Then you can get your turn.
But her first. Always her first.

twirls my hair HI OLLIEE i have lux questions...!!!!! 10, 23 (I'M A KARLUX SAP OKAY ,.!!!!), 48, & as a bonus treat u can use my ask as a Free Card to answer another question you really like from the tav ask list!!! happy luxposting! :3
kicks feet HIIII PARKER >:3c thank you for lux questions!!!! happy luxreading <333
10. If your Tav didn’t become an adventurer, what else would they be doing?
before the events of the game they were already a traveler but if they had to settle i think they would set up a shop selling the most bizarre useless shit (affectionate), like the equivalent of a fantasy thrift store that smells strongly of Incense and looks like howl movingcastle's bedroom. i also think a lot about them as a skyrim shopkeeper saying the same obnoxiously repetitive lines and idk why they're too hot to be a skyrim shopkeeper maybe more like a deltarune shopkeeper instead where they get tumblr sexymaned and sell you items that are totally not cursed
23. What is your Tav’s favorite moment they’ve had with their lover?
agh <3 it warms my heart that i got you into my silly little bg3 ship, getting to share them is such a treat :3 there are so many wonderful moments in game and that i headcanon that it's hard to choose the big favorite. (act 3 romance spoilers) a moment that's really dear to me and was really sentimental was how karlach planned their date in the city ahead of time and even insisted on scoping out the inn to make sure everything was perfect. just the level of thoughtfulness floored me. lux is so incredibly in love with her and how she says she's bad at flirting but then pulls off the most romantic shit like it's nothing. they have an adorable date where they roleplay as if this is a first date where they're just getting to know each other and they fail miserably at pretending they don't already know and love each other by heart. it's such an important moment for them to slow down and share some moments of normalcy amidst the chaos of their adventure, even if they're both giggling and being sooooo normal about each other.
48. Where does your Tav feel most at home?
it would be pretty corny to say home is by karlachs side but that is the correct answer and i cannot deny it. for the longest time lux has always been moving, estranged from the place they grew up and their previous guild, never staying in one location that they could call home. but the adventuring life is something that they wouldn't trade and so they find home in the little things that they love. one thing that is constant no matter where they go is the night sky. during the events of the game they find the greatest comfort laying in the grass beside the chionthar river, their insomnia keeping them up stargazing all night, the light in the sky reflecting back in the water while millions of fireflies twinkle in the cool night air, all bathed in the blue and gold. and it's one of their favorite pastimes to share with karlach, they prefer it more with her company. also spoilers for the new epilogue but a character asks this same question and this was one of the responses available due to the choices i had made and i think about it a lot. you can make hell a home with the right person by your side <3 edit: forgor to note avernus has no stars so *looks at crumpled note* she is the sun
Tumblr media
FREE CARD! (literally) 64. What Tarot Card best represents your Tav?
this one's a bit on the nose but i've taken a lot of inspiration from the star major arcana for lux's character and who they aspire to be. the visuals of the star card usually depicts a figure pouring water from each hand as a symbol for balance and the card represents intuition, inspiration, little glimmers of hope and the strength to carry on ✨

i also think u should play ascended astarion. i’m not in camp “if you have fictional characters do a bad thing it means you’re bad”. no actually i think part of the fun of the medium of video games is being able to explore multiple sides of a character. astarion when he heals has to give up his freedom. he’s relinquished to being a spawn forever, hiding in the shadows. it’s not what he wanted. in fact, he fears it from the very beginning. it’s fucking tragic. ascended astarion gets what he thinks he wants. he’s not scared anymore, he’s free. he’s fully “himself”. (this parallels dark justiciar shadowheart So Well btw) ascended astarion is also just a terrible person. he revels in the power he has. unrestrained bloodlust. he wants to control the player character just as cazador controlled him. and when you’ve played both routes it’s also fucking tragic. when you know that he had the capacity for love and restraint of his bloodthirsty tendencies but you still let it happen. idk just thinking about astarion.
i think astarion’s primary parallel character is gale. both were victims of much more powerful beings, both are overly affectionate to the player character to hide their own wounds, both are ambitious for power. the main difference is gale is more inclined towards good while astarion is more inclined towards evil.
same with shadowheart/lae’zel parallels and karlach/wyll parallels btw. shadowheart and lae’zel have both been indoctrinated into cults around evil goddesses who want to use their genuine passion. both of them don’t want to be bad they want to be strong and do what they believe is right. they can both either remain blind or decide to wake up and renounce their god, rebel under selune or orpheus.
wyll and karlach are both beholden to the hells. they can’t get free of the desperate situations that led them to be reliant on internal power. they’ve both been villainized despite being the most inherently good characters in the game. even though both want desperately to do the right thing, they’ve both been driven by desperation and fear and pain to do the wrong things. they both feel betrayed by father figures (duke ravengard and gortash).
this turned into a ramble but anyway yeah. bg3 and narratives. finding out the “bad” endings for the characters is important too if you want to understand them.

looks at you with my big autistic eyes. its my turn to enable blorbotalking can you tell me more about gale & your relationship bc he seems like such a silly pathetic guy
this ask got me out of bed so i could properly type my thoughts out. alright cracks my knuckles (spoilers for the story of bg3 under the cut/suicide mention/sex mention at one point sorry) (not joking this is long) (you give me a vague description of beltboy and then you ask me 'hey so whos your new guy' and i become an unskippable cutscene.)
GODS he really does set himself up as pathetic. he probably doesn't realise it. but your first interaction with him is pulling him out of a malfunctioning portal (which i affectionately call gale% in all my playthroughs) because he's usually better at magic but just this once he got stuck on the other side please pull him out so niceys. and then he talks so so much. whenever you're in the grove and do something nice where the refugees are concerned he's like haha! this reminds me of when i was younger! this reminds me of when i stopped a bar fight! and then also the "fuck that woman" dialogue node when you save a child from getting killed by a death viper because she stole something and gave it back. when you first long rest he tells you to go to hell and then immediately expounds upon his worries concerning the fact that you're all going to DIE (did i mention there's a parasite in everyone's head. there's a parasite in everyone's head). AND HE ALSO INTRODUCES HIMSELF WHEN ASKED WITH HIS TINDER PROFILE. "i like cats and wine and long walks" shut uppp. bites him
and then he eventually opens up to you about something very important to him; he has a condition that makes him eat magic items and he would be very grateful if you could help! he hasn't told anyone besides his cat about this! he Trusts You!!!!! and then you give him a magic item a bit later and GODS tim downie did a wonderful job because the genuine relief in his "thank you" sends me for a loop every time. and with the first magic item hes like mm yes good. with the second he goes ahh mm still ouchies this is worrying. and with the third hes like ok this really isnt doing anything anymore. i have to open up about my condition further.
THEN HE JUST STRAIGHT UP TELLS YOU HE USED TO FUCK THE GODDESS OF MAGIC. AND TRIED TO GIVE HER A GIFT TO GET HER TO PAY ATTENTION TO HIM BEYOND JUST LEADING HIM ON. (THIS BIT INFURIATES ME BECAUSE HE WAS HER CHOSEN AND WITH EVERY OTHER CHOSEN YOU ENCOUNTER IN THIS GAME THE GODS THAT CHOSE THEM ARE VERY CLEAR ABOUT WHAT THEY WANT AND WHAT POWERS THEY GET IN RETURN BUT MYSTRA LITERALLY JUST WORE GALE OUT LIKE A TOY AND DIDN'T COMMUNICATE SHIT AND DROPPED HIM AS SOON AS HE CROSSED A BOUNDARY HE DIDN'T KNOW WAS THERE!!!! I NEED TO KILL MYSTRA.) and this attempted gift now lays in his chest. he basically has been carrying a nuclear bomb around this whole time. in his chest. we learn later that the gift never could have worked because it's not made of the "right magic" (grr) but for now gale's just like "ok. i told you. now if you want me to go kill myself i will" and that basically becomes his entire character for the rest of the game DSFJH he will kill himself at the slightest provocation (this is untrue but you Do get a skill that allows him to kill himself and game over you soon after this so. LOL)
im just gonna attach a video of the next big moment bc i remembered to record it! basically you save the grove of refugees and they throw a party for you and gale asks to meet you after to show you "something magical" and it isn't his penis-
youtube
now eventually you run into an old man. which old man? this universe's equivalent of gandalf the fucking grey, gale's old mentor. he comes to tell gale that mystra told him to kill himself. and then gives him the means to kill himself with the orb in his chest. this is the equivalent of your ex giving you nuclear launch codes and telling you to kill yourself by standing in the vicinity of where they want you to launch the nukes. gale is understandably upset but genuinely considers killing himself. because maybe it's what fate wants him to do maybe this is how he Should end. and he's pretty much made up his mind. and it's the player's job to convince him not to.
this culminates with him making his ideal night. because it might be his last one alive. and he chooses to spend it with you. you, who has become so vastly important to him. this is the moment he confesses. this is the moment where i burst into tears because jesus christ tim downie is a good actor. and jesus christ im in love with gale of waterdeep. he gently takes you by the hand, shows you his home in waterdeep via magic. describes what the perfect night with you would be. shows you a slice of his world. laments that you aren't home, or otherwise he would have courted you properly. tells you about his favourite books, how he often stays up reading until the dawn.
then he does have sex with you. but it's either normalstyle or fucking insane symbolism laden bullshit in space. and the symbolism bullshit is so . its so. i should record it some time.
ANYways after that you rock up to where mystra told him to kill himself and you say NO i love you and he goes, verbatim, "no matter what happens, i choose you." and. i keel over and die and burst into tears. and then you make it to act three and you're in the city !!! yippee! and you get to do a love test w him :] and witness a coronation! and somewhere in there you meet his tressym, tara, which i also have a video of-
youtube
and THEN you get to go SHOPPING WITH HIM! YOU GO SHOPPING WHEEE he needs a forbidden book to learn about the crown mentioned in the video. and you can either break in from the office of the head librarian or kill the wizard that runs the shop in his own home and work your way down to the book vault. and basically gale wants to take the crown and become a better god than the ones now. i also have a video for this. sorry for so many videos but i think of these moments and my brain fucking turns off. the video is stuttery and jittery unfortunately :( but i cannot change this.
youtube
and then after this mystra finally comes into contact with him like "hey i can get rid of that bomb if you give me the crown" and its like HEY WHY ONLY MENTION THIS NOW. HUH. HEY WHY ONLY BRING THIS UP NOW. i need to kill mystra. anyways then you go off and save the world!! and the 'final kiss' tears me to pieces. but i don't have a video of it bc the One time i went to the endgame i didn't think to record it. but then!! after the game he proposes and takes you home to visit his Really Big Family and have a big fat greek wedding. and so basically im in love with him. thank you for your time

So, my clown make-up time. Aka my few theories about plot and companions.
Seems fitting to post it right before I can see if they are right or wrong. Mostly those are just the vibes I got from EA and some Larian vids, no datamine involved. I did not read that.
Long post under the cut.
Also, some things might be obvious for dnd lore nerds (affectionate). But I play only Eberron(the best setting ever, imo) and my DMs homebrew, so idgaf about wider dnd canon.
If I miss something obvious(deities, big name characters etc), that's the reason. I am going to treat BG3 as another homebrew and won't bother looking anything up. Just a PSA.
But back to vibes.
Halsin and Karlach haven't been with us for any meaningful amount of time, so I'll reserve my judgment. From what I saw in EA and panel from Hell - I love them without reservations. I am pretty sure they are meant to be 'good' companions. They will leave evil Tav, maybe even confront/try to kill them, but no backstabbing or bad surprises. Time will tell how wrong I am. So far they seem perfect to me. Just let me hold them!😭😭😭
Shadowheart does not worship Shar by choice. Maybe she's a brainwashed Selune paladin. Maybe she was just raised in a cult. But I have a feeling she only worships Shar because it is all she currently knows.
For simplicity let's assume she was just raised in a cult. This is probably the first time she is completely outside of her cult group and is free to learn about the world without superiors telling her what she should think about it.
And our actions can help her break out of programming and decide for herself if she even wants to keep following Shar or just be a secular person/swap deities instead. Or she can decide that outside world is just as bad as she was told by cult superiors and double-down on sharran cult.
(Brainwashed selunite prisoner or even selunite agent under the deep cover would be much cooler/angstier, tbh. I'd prefer it. I just do not want to get my hopes up)
Gale gives me major Anders vibes (he even looks similar). So I instantly distrust him. But I am fully aware it might be just Dragon Age brain talking.
I'm giving him a chance and will treat him well and I will feed him magic items I do not want to use, but otherwise he's sus to me, even if he is sweet and fun and likeable. I just keep expecting him to blow something important without telling me (and letting me pick better target🤣).
Really hope it's just Dragon Age trauma, and I will love Gale without reservations on subsequent playthroughs tho.
Wyll gets rewritten, so my EA vibes are irrelevant. Skip. I do hope he's still just as loveable tho. I love EA Wyll.
Lae'zel seems pretty straightforward. Ride or die if you look to get rid of tadpole. Will try to kill you if you embrace its powers.
We already know she can learn emotional intimacy from us. So I guess we can make her see that there are more ways to live a life than just gith ways, and that those other ways are just as valid. And that she has a choice in what she wants to do with her life. To me she is another case of 'raised in a cult' tbh.
Overall I get a feeling that outside of tadpole decision she's your bestie no matter what you do or who you side with.
Astarion will be the most malleable/multioptional companion.
If you exile/mistreat/ignore him, he'll be recaptured and used for whatever ritual Cazador planed for him. Results might be used against you somehow. Maybe you get a chance to rescue him, but outcome might depend on how much he trusts you.
If you indulge him in assholish behaviour, give him necronomicon, let him eat tadpoles(I'm 100% sure he is the companion who will want to use all the tadpoles, as devs mentioned) and let him drink Cazador's blood to become true vampire - he will become a monster, far worse than Cazador. And he will want Tav for a thrall. And depending on powerful evil items you give him - he might just have enough power to do it, whether you want it or not.
I do not think letting him bite in Act1 it is a bad choice tho(I donate blood twice a year irl, so I cannot see that scene as anything else. What is a vampire if not a person in need of blood transfusion?). But I can totally see that evil!Astarion will use it against you. He had a taste of your blood and he wants more. And on this route he would not stop to think twice about it.
If you treat him well but push against using tadpole powers, do not give him evil book and convince him that being free of Cazador is enough and he does not need to be a true vampire - he'll still be snarky little bitch (affectionate), but no worse that embezzling magistrate/shitty judge he used to be. He will learn to be sincere with Tav, romance or not, in this route.
I hope there's middle ground where you can teach him enough morals where he can become true vampire and not be a monster. And then he can make you his equal true vampire (if you choose so). I guess that's where evil!Astarion gets a chance to deceive you and make you his thrall and slave instead.
Not sure if there's true 'I can fix him' route. Maybe? But I do not really need it, so I did not give it much thought. As long as he stays the perfect little shit he is without becoming a monster - I am happy.
Cannot say anything about Minthara, as tieflings are among my fave races and I - as a player - cannot bring myself to slaughter the whole group. So she is always dead for me. Looking forward to other players capturing her interactions though. I will enjoy her content through all of you💖
Tadpole/Daisy/Guardian. At first I thought it is straight-up tadpole manipulation. But then Larian called them The Guardian, and it got me thinking. So, is it Shadowheart's magic d20 then? Some deity looking to use us as a pawn? I am so intrigued to find out!
I never played previous BG games, so I have no opinion on Jaheira and Minsc. But I think it is not a problem because we have a new protag. So not knowing them from previous games feels very fitting, as my protag won't have to fight against player knowledge. I know of them, and it would make sense if Tav heard stories, but has no personal connection.
And it is not a slight against previous games. I just do not like crpgs as gameplay. I am so deadly bored during turn-based combat.
I get that it seeks to imitate tabletop, but it's like comparing wax fruit to real fruit, imo. I play with friends at the table. I could not care less what ttrpg we are even playing. I'm there for the people, not the system or setting.
I know how lucky I am to have my perfect DM and a great group, and I know that most people do not have this privilege, so I do not begrudge crpg popularity. It's just not what I am looking for in my videogames.
And when it comes to videogames, they are my alone time, and I have very low tolerance for turn-based videogames as a result. I'm 'real time 3rd person view' type of player.
If story reactivity was not this good, I'd be skipping BG3 too. But they got me at 'we have so many choices and consequences!' Just your basic evil/good playthrough is not enough for me. I want every little thing matter, and Larian seems committed to this in BG3. I can tolerate gameplay I don't like for this! Story variations my beloved💖
Probably will godmode my subsequent playthroughs. I do not want to be distracted from good parts by trash mobs. I will experience it as intended on the first go, but after it's auto-crit cheat all the way from second playthrough onward (but I do hope that default easymode will not feel like it wastes my time, so I don't have to).
And seeing how many different routes you can take in EA makes me very excited. It will be worth it💖

For the BG3 Matchups may I offer my tav Jubilee, my little tiefling sorceress had been adventuring for like 2 weeks trying to figure out the origins of her magic when she got yoinked by mindflayers so she has no idea what anyone of any class/role is supposed to be like. She just kinda assumes whatever her companions do is the norm even when it’s really not, Shadowheart hates selûne with a passion I guess all clerics just get grumpy about gods other than theirs and she offered another rouge her blood once because she assumed that’s just how they are and got a horrified reaction. The woman is just taking things at face value and needs to be wrangled by the party about her misconceptions about how this works. This being said she has no idea what a sorcerer is supposed to be like and often ends up acting far more like an overly compassionate Druid or an innocently charming bard. She was working as a baker before getting all the adventuring nonsense and keeps bringing her party member’s pastries the way one would expect a cat to bring you a dead mouse. She is a genuine sweetheart who is deeply in over her head with everything happening too her. She a simple woman with a strong sense of fairness but has some strong people pleasing and attention seeking tendencies. She wants to be liked and while that leads to her being kind and helpful it can also lead to her being pushy. She has a lot of energy and is extremely affectionate to everyone. As mentioned before she’s an avid baker but can also sing and play the lute. She also just loves insects and has a collection of the little creatures, she hates loud noises as she has very sensitive hearing and sarcasm confounds her more often than not. I threw in a doodle of her for fun!
Tumblr media
She’s down for Poly and extremely sapphic.
A/N: Lol, I love it! This is now officially a Jubilee stan blog.
And oh my gosh at that doodle? She’s so sweet??? I love her so much???
“She was working as a baker before getting all the adventuring nonsense and keeps bringing her party member’s pastries the way one would expect a cat to bring you a dead mouse.”
@botanicalbard Literally my favorite line ever in a matchup submission, holy shit lol. Like she is so precious! Her companions better protect her or I will personally jump into the game to kick their asses.
Please Like & Reblog!
Okay… So for Jubilee, as you said she’s into women, and down with a poly relationship, I think her best matchups would be monogamous relationships either with (or a poly relationship with both) Karlach and Hope!
Tumblr media
♨ Karlach is such a sweet girl, despite years of being forced to fight in hell. She’s kind, happy, and boisterous. She doesn't beat around the bush. If she likes something, she says it. If she disagrees, she’ll make her opinion heard. She has a fair amount of experience, but still manages to look on the bright side without coming off as naive. I think she’d find Jubilee’s innocence and curiosity sweet, as opposed to some other companions who might find it off-putting or dangerous. So it’s okay for Jubilee to take what Karlach says at face value, and in the event she needs clarification (which you said seems to be most of the time lol), Karlach is there, ready and willing to give it to her.
Karlach isn’t a magic expert. She’s a barbarian, so her frame of mind is “If I can hit it, I can damage it”, which, to be fair, works out more often than not. However, I do think Karlach would encourage Jubilee to do some digging into her past and into her possible education, to try and teach herself more about sorcery for a couple of reasons. 1) It would be a great addition to the party to have a sorcerer on board, and 2) Karlach knows how good it feels when she’s being true to herself, smashing the bad guys to bits. She wants Jubilee to feel that self of purpose herself. But in the meantime, Karlach enjoys the way Jubilee acts and approaches situations. It’s refreshing to see someone try their hardest to be a good person. After years of watching armies battle in hell, Karlach has seen people at their worst. Every moment above ground with Jubilee only further reminds her how beautiful and compassionate people can and should choose to be.
She’s also obsessed with Jubilee’s baking. Karlach is a tank, alright. She’s gotta fuel up way more than the other companions. And as long as Jubilee is happy to bring her sweets and pastries, Karlach is more than happy to eat them.
Karlach also feels a duty to protect Jubilee, physically and emotionally, from all the violence and betrayal out there. It’s a harsh world in Baldur’s Gate, and it’s very clear to Karlach and all the other party members that Jubilee’s in over her head. But that’s no matter. Karlach promises to stick by her side throughout it all. She truly believes that as long as they stick together, there’s nothing they can’t do.
Jubilee is similar to Karlach in that they both have a lot of energy. In some ways, they’re both people-pleasing. This can cause some issues, with neither one of the two being able to put down super firm boundaries. Thankfully, Karlach’s protective nature prevents Jubilee from doing anything overly foolish or risky while Jubilee’s genuine love for Karlach reminds Karlach to not put herself in unnecessary mortal danger. Because for Karlach, it’s not just about her survival anymore- it’s about theirs.
Karlach loves when they get a moment somewhere quiet, where Jubilee can sing or play the lute for her. It’s so sweet and peaceful, that for a moment they can forget all their troubles.
I think if/once Karlach’s engine issue gets fixed, the two of them can count on a long future together. One filled with just a bit less perilous adventures and lots of pastry eating together.
Tumblr media
❂ Hope is actually the first character I thought of when I read your Jubilee description, (even though she isn’t a companion, but an NPC). She, much like her namesake, is an embodiment of hope in The Devil Raphael’s house of horrors. Despite years of torment and abuse, she still manages to have hope that things will get better. She naively believes that things will end well and that she will one day be free from the literal and metaphorical chains that bind her. That is one of the reasons Raphael chose to keep her locked away, as he could never seem to fully break her spirit, and it infuriated him.
As a cleric, Hope would probably be better equipped with teaching Jubilee more about magic, spells, and sorcery overall. And it’s alright if Jubilee doesn't know a lot, because honestly, Hope doesn't either lol. She’s young at heart and in soul. There’s so much she still wants to learn, and do, and make for others. She and Jubilee could spend time together, each researching their own abilities, while still enjoying each other’s presence/company.
Hope is overly compassionate herself. We know as much because she risks her own safety to help the party defeat Raphael. She’s giving but not completely selfless, asking to be rescued herself. This tells me she would be good at agreeing with Jubilee’s acts of compassion while keeping in mind her and Jubilee’s physical safety as well.
Hope would love to have Jubilee in her kitchen, brightening up the place. After taking the house from Raphael, she tells the player she plans to make the place more homely- some fresh paint, a new atmosphere, and her as the new owner- the place should be in much better spirits. Jubilee baking delicious pastries, and the smell of fresh baked goods wafting through the house just adds to that effect. It’s no longer a house of torment, but a safe home.
And Jubilee being a bit pushy when it comes to people-pleasing won’t be an issue with Hope lol. Hope can be quite loud when she wants to be. Despite her smaller stature, she’ll make sure she’s heard. She has no problem pushing back against things that make her feel uncomfortable. Now that she’s free, she promises to never let herself be forced into uncomfortable situations again. If Jubilee is asking too much of her, Hope will communicate that. And on the other hand, Hope respects when Jubilee puts her foot down on something Hope may want to do. Communication is key to any relationship, and the two of them have it down pat.
And Hope is interested in Jubilee’s insect collection. Hope is pretty small herself, so she feels a kinship with the little bugs and creatures Jubilee collects. And now that Hope has all these rooms, she has no problems converting one of them into a sort of conservatory to house all of Jubilee’s new little friends!
I think Karlah and Hope would get on well. Both of them know what it’s like to be trapped in hell and both of them managed to get through their traumas with their bright personalities intact. The best part about this arrangement is because Hope’s new house is technically located in hell, Karlach’s engine would calm down long enough for all three of them to come up with a plan to fix it. It would be the three of them- a trio of positive like-minded women versus the world.
No imp or cambion, or even Zariel herself could tear them apart. The trio’s collective optimism and hope keeps them together.

Hey there!! Could I request a matchup for BG3 for a male companion?
My Tav’s name is Luz, and she’s a silly little rogue who isn’t actually all that good at being a rogue.
She’s very high-energy, like bouncing off the walls style. Girlie is physically incapable of keeping still. She’s very outgoing and has very little sense of awkwardness, making it easy for her to talk to and get to know people. She will see someone she finds remotely interesting sitting by themself, say “Is anyone gonna go up to them?”, and not wait for an answer. Definitely can come off as flirting, whether intentional or not. Most of the time, it is intentional lmao. She won’t push boundaries or anything, but shes just a very naturally affectionate person, kisses the homies goodnight, etc. However, when she actually catches feelings for somebody, she turns into a complete mess. Falling over her words, falling over actual objects, trying to be suave and show off while picking a lock but accidentally setting off an alarm— it’s rough.
She enjoys anything that involves large crowds, hustle and bustle. She’s a city girl, y’know? Totally has nothing to do with the fact that it’s easier to pickpocket people in large crowds. Due to her ✨background✨ she didn’t get to experience much outside of where she grew up, which led to a deep-seated desire to experience absolutely everything. Due to this, she’ll basically never say ‘no’ to a new experience— she’ll try anything once. TLDR: She’s very Chaotic Good (not that the alignment system actually does much, but you get what I mean), with a bit of a selfish slant in the sense that, before joining up with the party, she mostly operated out of self-interest.
🫀🫀🫀
A/N: Okay, for your rogue Tav named Luz, I’m thinking she’d be best matched with Astarion!
Tumblr media
⭐ Astarion is a great match for Luz! He’s determinedly interested in experiencing all life has to offer, having been kept away from it for so long, so he’s very much on board with Luz’s need to go everywhere and see unequivocally everything.
He’s also (in my opinion) a pretty adept rogue (so long as the di rolls in your favor), so I think Astarion could give Luz a pointer or two on how to be more aloof when it comes to meeting people. He certainly gives a good enough example, but that's another reason I think they’d be great together. Because Luz is so genuinely affectionate and extroverted, she’ll keep talking to him, and slowly break down all those hard protective barriers of his.
Plus he can be a bit of a mopey drama queen lol. He needs someone excited about life, about doing things to forcibly pull him out of any pity party or slumps!
Astarion may be disappointed that Luz isn’t always flirting, because he usually is- it’s one of his go-to defense mechanisms. But once he understands she’s just truly that friendly, I think he’d let his guard down around her and appreciate someone who isn’t always coming on to him, or just interested in him for his body/sex.
Be warned, he will tease the hell out of her once she starts to catch feelings and gets all blushy and stammer-y around him. He can’t help it. She’s just too cute not to tease. He won’t take it too far (for the most part), but he will do it enough to have memorized the exact shade of crimson her cheeks make when embarrassed.
Once Cazador is taken care of, Astarion would love living in the city- the bustle, the rush, the people, the arts- all of those things are things he’s been waiting years to indulge in, and he’d want nothing more than to do so with Luz at his side.
Astarion also has a fair amount of selfishness to him. In his defense, a good deal of it comes from survival but a small part of it was there prior to being turned. He’s a man of extravagance, why wouldn’t he be a little bit selfish? But since joining the party and making friends, and since finding a romantic partner in Luz, I’d imagine he’d be more likely to reign those luxurious tendencies in, at least, the ones that only pertain to him. I see him lavishing Luz in all amenities money can buy- tickets to shows, jewelry, fine clothes, expensive meals, all Luz has to do is simply name it, and Astarion will buy it for her. And if he can’t afford it, well, let’s just say it’s a good thing this couple is made up of two rogues- there’ll never be a time where they’re more than an arm’s reach from some coin.
