❛ i thought you’d like some company. ❜  / cries gently into my hands
Ben was dead. Again. But she's still shaken. For hours, Agnes was in her room in the bunker --- a rare thing indeed. She was always in someone else's room... whether it be Castiel's, Jonah's, or Dean's. Now, she stares at Castiel in the doorway. His presence does make her feel better. But she still can't get his words out of her head.
"Look, I'm a demon, Aggie. A second chance at life. A life that ended with you." "That's where you're wrong, Ben --- you've always been a demon. You were just really good at hiding it."
She shakes her head as if to get the thoughts out. Agnes knows she needs to say something so finally, she opens her mouth. "Is Jonah okay?" She has to check on him, because she can't focus on herself right now.

"Ok if you hold still it won't hurt," Jonah chided as he finished stitching up the man on the table. "Now, those will dissolve in six months but you need to see a doctor before then." He snapped his gloves and made a face at the blood on his scrubs. "Hey, stop tilting your head back. That just makes the blood slide down your throat and into your lungs and stomach," he scolded. "Is someone coming to - hi," he blinked at the man that had appeared in the doorway. "I'm Jonah." -childrcnsnurse
As soon as he had gotten the call, Agron immediately left work. Nothing was more important than his brother and hearing that he was in the hospital . . . well, Agron didn’t even stay on the line long enough to hear every detail. He went to his car and drove straight there, not even bothering to change out of his uniform. There was no time for that. Speeding all the way, he quickly parked and even more quickly made his way to the desk, telling the nurse who he was looking for. Directed to Duro’s room, Agron wasted no time, standing in the threshold for only a mere moment when the medical personnel turned to look at him in greeting.
Agron’s eyes fell to the blood on the man’s scrubs, feeling his heart beat heavier in his chest as he then glanced at Duro’s state. His gaze returned to the nurse. “Agron,” he told him, figuring he should explain who he was. “I’m his brother.” Further reveal of why Agron knew he had a right to be here since it was usually only family that was permitted. “What happened?” Because Agron would not be able to rest his mind until he knew for certain that his brother would be ok.

perchance to dream || a rewrite of lover’s lullaby, jonah’s bonus story from the magical moments collection event.
1: a little gift for @pianoperson! i’d like you to know that you brighten up my day quite a lot, thank you so much..... ( ・ᴗ・̥̥̥ ) i hope you’re doing well + have a great month of march ahead of you! o (^‿^✿)
The trick to falling asleep they say, is counting sheep. Imaginary, fluffy, bleating sheep. Let them form a neat little line in the middle of a pretty prairie, waiting for their turn to jump over a white picket fence.
One sheep, two sheep, three sheep, frogm - ack!
She shudders, toes curling and hands pulling the sheets up to her nose and eyes staring at some spot in the dim ceiling. Frogmen - Frogman isn’t real, she recites like some mantra in her head, too absorbed in repeating it the umpteenth time to realize that the bed had moved in response to the shift of someone’s weight.
He’s lying on his side now, eyes searching for her face. “Can’t sleep?”
She’s only been ever so honest - this time wasn’t any different. “No. I’m scared I’ll have a nightmare.”
“See? That’s what happens when you listen to ghost stories!”
So he says with a pointed scoff but an arm pulled gently at her waist, urging her body to lay on her side to face him. She moves without complaint, tossing around quickly and scooting closer to his warmth. Her arms have folded themselves against her chest, the tip of her nose is close to touching the fabric of his shirt, and his chin is resting on the top of her head.
His other arm snakes securely around her frame and his hand goes behind her - fingers and palm start rubbing up and down, up and down her back.
“Once when I couldn’t sleep,” his voice is as soothing as the repeated motions of his hand, “you offered to sing me a lullaby, remember?”
She blinks, images of slimy frogs switched out for memories of a different time resurfacing: running through the streets, a clash of swords and beams of magic, seeking safety in the deepest parts of the forest, a night spent in the tranquility of a clearing.
“Oh, yeah,” she mumbles after a while, “I do.”
“I want you to teach me one of the lullabies from your world,” his hand stops moving, she shifts her head to look up at him through the darkness. “Right now. Not because I want you to sing to me, but because I want to lull you to sleep with song.”
Her eyes twinkle, a soft hum coming from her throat. “You sound pretty confident you can do it. Have you ever lulled someone to sleep before?”
Two fingers reach out to lightly tweak her nose. “I used to do it nearly every night. Thanks to my crybaby little brother.”
She tries to picture it: two brothers huddled close together under the sheets, one singing a gentle song while the other listens closely, his small eyes beginning to droop.
A smile tugs at her lips but there’s something uncomfortable that comes with it, too.
“So,” she tries not to pout, “I’m just a replacement for Luka?”
A hand grips at her shoulder, his hurried breath fans her cheek. “No way! No one could ever replace Luka! And there’s no one in any world that could replace you, either.”
The declaration makes her smile fully bloom, edges of simple jealousy replaced for the swell of pride.
“There better not be,” her tone’s lighter now and the tension in her body relaxes. “Okay, then. Can I make a song request? I’d like to hear one of the lullabies from my childhood.”
“Certainly. Sing it for me once so I know how it goes.”
Nodding, she clears her throat and sings that beloved melody that brought her back to the simplicity of her home on the hill, to the cotton sheets of her cradle and to the tender singing of her mother. In the blanket of a cold night where nothing else could be heard except for the occasional chirp of crickets outside, each verse of her lullaby is brought to life by the warmth in her quiet voice, and he holds onto every word.
He tries picturing too as she sung: a little girl drifting off to sleep with one of her small hands held by a kind mother and the other held by a doting father, both never leaving her side until they were sure that she was sound asleep.
A heartwarming scene of domesticity.
When she’s done and everything falls quiet again, his arms pull her in even closer, bodies almost flush against each other.
“Hmm, it’s not a bad tune. Worthy of being sung by the Queen of Hearts, in fact.” a hand combs gently through the locks of her hair, tugging lightly at any knots. “Now, it’s my turn. Be a good girl and close your eyes.”
A chuckle escapes her but she follows his command, keeping her eyes shut and waiting for the dulcet tones of his singing voice to reach her ears.
Frogs don’t dare hop and splash through her mind, because once he had started to sing, the first lines come out slow and sweet -
Rock-a-bye baby, thy cradle is green,
There’s something beautifully intimate about this, him singing so close to her that she could almost feel the vibrations coming from his throat and the rise and fall of his chest -
Father’s a nobleman, mother’s a queen,
The sheets on the mattress and the blanket set over them kept their bodies warm, but his singing crept past her skin and touched her heart -
And Aggy's a lady, and wears a gold ring;
Monsters like frogmen would even find this one voice soothing: a rich timbre that could adapt to delicate notes so naturally, exposing the singer’s shift to strength then vulnerability without fear -
And Johnny's a drummer, and drums for the king.
The stillness of the night is brief, for as soon as he’s done singing she opens her eyes and brings her hands together, clapping softly.
“Thank you,” she’s gushing, excitement clear in her every word. “That was wonderful!”
“Of course it was - I was singing,” he huffs, then he lowers his head to press his forehead against hers. “So, are you feeling sleepy?”
She wonders if he can see her smiling.
“Yes, but could I hear it just one more time?”
They just stay like that, foreheads pressed together and limbs close enough to tangle themselves in each other until he pulls away with a laugh, resting his chin on top of her head once more and arms wrapping themselves around her.
“You love making me work to satisfy you - but I don’t mind. I’d sing it to you a thousand times if that’s what you wish.”
And all is right with the world as she buried her head close to the crook of his neck, breathing in the mix of his cologne on his clothes and his own distinct smell on his skin. She closes her eyes again and focuses on the gentle melody drifting into her ears, old and familiar but now all the more precious to her.
Breathing comes easy and soon she forgets eerie rainy nights and the threat of a Frogman lurking in the shadows, crying about wanting to be a tadpole again.
.
.
.
“Worked like a charm,” he smiled softly, peering down to have a look at her face. The night wore itself thick in the four corners of the room, but despite that he could tell that she was no longer fretting herself to sleep.
Jonah shifted slightly, careful not to move so much as to wake her up. A hand goes lightly across her face to feel a stray strand of her hair, covering the spot where her lips should be.
“You’ll have to pay for going to sleep first and leaving your lover behind,” he whispered as fingers brushed that errant strand away to tuck behind her ear, “but I’ll let it slide... for now.”
He punctuates his words with a dip of his head and a brush of his lips against hers - it’s too brief, too chaste... but perhaps he could look forward to what tomorrow morning would bring, instead.
He hopes it’s the sweet sound of her voice and his name on her lips.
“Sweet dreams.”
With that final whisper in his lover’s ear, Jonah closed his eyes as well.

This week in recruiting: Alabama returns to No. 1 in the rankings
Tumblr media
The Crootletter is your source for college football recruiting analysis.
This week in recruiting is a collection of thoughts and items of interest from me as a recruiting expert that either didn’t rise to the level of being their own national story, or for which I did not have time to make into a story this week.
Alabama is back at No. 1.
The Tide briefly dipped down to No. 2 nationally in the 247Sports Composite recruiting rankings, but then picked up four-star guard Darrian Dalcourt. That put the Alabama back ahead of Georgia.
Perhaps more importantly, Alabama picked up a four-star class of 2018 linebacker in Ale Kaho, of Nevada. Kaho Had originally signed with Washington, but was released from his letter of intent. Kaho never enrolled at Washington. Alabama lacks linebacker depth, so this is a pretty big deal.
Texas A&M makes two moves.
Texas A&M made two huge moves in early August. First, it was linebacker Christian Harris. Out of Baton Rouge (La.). Harris, a four-star, is one of my favorite players in the class because he is such a versatile, smart player with plus athleticism. The Aggies will move him all over the field, and A&M beat out LSU and Alabama for him, among others.
The Aggies also picked up Dylan Wright, a 6’4 receiver who should be a beast in the red zone. A&M beat out the Longhorns and other powers for Wright.
The Aggies are now No. 3 nationally in the rankings.
Oregon adds two more blue-chips.
Oregon now has the No. 4 class in the nation thanks to picking up its 13th and 14th four-stars of the 2019 class. It started with Florida linebacker Ge’Mon Eaford, who the Ducks made a priority.
For its next trick, Oregon went to California to land massive four-star offensive tackle Jonah Tauanu’u, beating out USC and some other excellent programs. Oregon’s recruiting under Mario Cristobal is really humming.
USC enters the top 25.
USC is often a program that starts slowly and closes strong, facing very little competition West of the Rockies, meaning that it can take its time. But it made two moves, adding tight end Jude Wolf, of California, and linebacker Maninoa Tufono, of Hawaii. Both are four-star players.
The Gators land their first top-200 player.
UF’s recruiting struggles this year have some up in arms, but that changed a bit with the most recent commitment, the first in the top 100, or the top 200 for that matter.
Florida landed by far its best commitment of the season to date with the pledge of Mississippi Linebacker Diwun Black. Black is 6’4, long, with freakish athleticism which could allow him to stay at linebacker instead of defensive end. I am a big fan of his game.
Whispers have suggested Black has work to do in the classroom to ensure that he is able to qualify to play college football — and those whispers have sometimes included the possibility that Black will end up at Bradenton’s IMG Academy, a private school known more as a finishing school for athletes than a shining example of academic excellence, for his senior year of high school.
But if Black can make the grade, either at IMG or elsewhere, and the Gators keep the commitment of a two-time flipper, then Florida will end up with a potential star.
Mullen spoke to ESPN’s Chris Low about Florida’s recruiting this week.
Some Florida fans have voiced concern over the recruiting rankings. “I look at it this way: Tim Tebow was on everybody’s list. Dak Prescott wasn’t, and both were very successful quarterbacks,” @CoachDanMullen told me. “It’s going beyond that to find who really fits your program.” pic.twitter.com/b4zCbc058j
— Chris Low (@ClowESPN) August 8, 2018
While Mullen has done a great job of evaluating players in his career, Florida is going to need to keep landing players the caliber of Diwun Black because Georgia has more top-150 commitments than the rest of the SEC East combined.
Speaking of Georgia, the Dawgs picked up a top defensive lineman.
One area in which Georgia has recruited well, but perhaps not at an worldly level of late is defensive line. But that is changing. The latest is JUCO defensive end Jermaine Johnson.
By the way, read this from Kelsey Russo on Georgia now being one of the most talented states, up there with Florida, Texas, and California.
Oklahoma beefs up its class.
Oklahoma has had excellent offensive line play of late. That should continue thanks in part to commitments like Stacey Wilkins, of Arkansas.

The Opening Finals 2018: 19 things I learned about top recruits
Tumblr media
FRISCO, Texas — Many of the nation’s best recruits got together at Nike’s The Opening Finals, a big summer showcase event. Here are things I learned.
1. Which prospect is truly No. 1? He probably plays defensive end.
Defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux came into the week ranked No. 1 in the 247Sports Composite, and he looked very good. He didn’t do anything to lose his top spot.
But he also didn’t separate from everyone else. Georgia defensive end commit Nolan Smith was also good. Ohio defensive end Zach Harrison might have the highest upside, but he looked more raw than others, and there would be a ton of projection baked into a ranking that had him at No. 1.
Smith is the quickest and the bendiest. Harrison might have the highest ceiling, but is very raw right now. And Thibodeaux is the total package.
I spoke to Thibodeaux here. I think it is an Alabama vs. FSU battle for him. Harrison will be a Big Ten East fight between Ohio State, Penn State, and Michigan.
You can make an argument for those three, plus any number of the offensive tackles or maybe even a receiver or two.
2. I expect Alabama to finish with the top class, one year after its No. 1 streak ended.
The Tide already have the No. 1 ranking, and I like their chances for five-star running backTrey Sanders, four-star center Clay Webb, four-star tight end Jahleel Billingsley, four-star defensive tackle Siaki Ika, four-star receiver Siaki Ika, and Thibodeaux. Alabama reloaded its staff with great recruiters, and it is paying dividends.
3. USC should sign another top class.
Expect the Trojans to pick up five-star athlete Bru McCoy and four-stars like corner Chris Steele, receiver Kyle Ford, tackle Jonah Tauanu’u, tight end Jude Wolfe, and corner Trent McDuffie. And that’s just among those at The Opening.
4. Oklahoma is lapping the Big 12 in recruiting right now.
My colleague Alex Kirshner wrote about that.
5. Texas is having trouble getting traction with top receivers in Texas.
Texas already missed out on Austin’s Garrett Wilson (Ohio State), and Texas writers don’t like the Longhorns’ chances with local prospect Elijah Higgins, either. Maybe things will change if Texas’ passing offense shows some life this year.
The Crootletter

6. Ohio State’s new passing focus could pay dividends.
The Buckeyes are telling players that they’ll be throwing the ball a lot more, now that they have a passing QB in either Dwayne Haskins or Tate Martell. Wide receivers’ family members sounded like they were intrigued, but also want to see it on the field before they buy the changes.
If the new attack looks good, I think the Buckeyes will sign four-star receivers Jameson Williams and Marcus Washington.
7. This is a strong year for pass rushers.
In addition to the potential No. 1 guys, George Karlaftis (Purdue commit) and others are all really promising.
8. The QBs again failed to shine.
This is the worst QB recruit class many can remember. Several of the invitees looked like they didn’t belong on a national stage, and none looked like five-stars usually look. As of now, there are no QBs rated five-stars, and it should stay that way.
9. Texas A&M had another great week.
The Aggies have the current No. 2 class after picking up four-star corners Bobby Wolfe and Erick Young on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Let's check out what new #GigEm commit Erick Young @Fvmous_ey brings to the Texas A&M defense.
Physicality, physicality, and more physicality.
And a little more fluidity than you'd expect for a muscled up corner. pic.twitter.com/k4Kh22cWec
— SB Nation Recruiting (@SBNRecruiting) July 4, 2018
The Aggies have 11 three- or two-star recruits, which puts a ceiling on the class, but it’s still very strong.
If A&M can secure commitments from four-stars like linebacker Christian Harris, corner Jeffrey Carter, defensive tackle Marcus Stripling, running back Isaiah Spiller, or receiver Dylan Wright, it would likely secure a top-five class.
10. John Emery Jr. might be the top back in a down year.
Out of Destrehan (La.), Emery has some serious moves for a 200-pounder. And he catches the ball well. Mississippi State has made an impression and might have a real chance to beat out LSU.
11. Giles Jackson is a name you need to know.
Jackson is rated the No. 729 prospect in the country. But the Oakley (Calif.) running back is super athletic and is seeing his interest from major programs skyrocket. Jackson is 180 pounds soaking wet, but he is a weapon in space. Michigan, USC, and Oregon have his attention.
12. This is a deep offensive tackle year.
Ten of the top 75 or so players might be tackles. Texas A&M commit Kenyon Green and Tennessee commit Wanya Morris looked great, as did Evan Neal (Alabama vs. Miami battle).
13. Notre Dame safety commit Kyle Hamilton should not be a three-star.
Hamilton is 6’3, 190 and showed great range this weekend. He was a consistent playmaker. He deserves a four-star rating.
14. This is a good year for receivers.
Georgia commit Jadon Haselwood is still the best, because of his size, body control, instincts, athleticism, and effort. He spoke about his official visit plans.
But Auburn commit George Pickens and USC target Kyle Ford are physical beasts themselves. Ohio State commit Garrett WIlson jumps out of the gym. Frank Ladson is the best deep threat in the nation, repeatedly dusting corners. And Theo Wease has a great blend of length and athleticism.
15. Penn State is getting a good one in John Dunmore.
Dunmore isn’t super physical or super fast, but he has a good balance of skills and always manages to come down with the ball in 7-on-7. If he can do it more in pads this fall, I bet his ranking will rise.
16. Recruits love talking about Fortnite.
Every single kid we chatted with plays the game.
17. Joe Moorhead’s Mississippi State staff can recruit.
Dan Mullen averaged 3.5 four- or five-star signees per year at Mississippi State. The Bulldogs are already at seven. Keeping them will be the tough part, but MSU is taking advantage of a loaded year in the state of Mississippi.
18. Oregon has real juice on the recruiting trail.
The Ducks already have nine four-star commitments, and are in a great spot for receiver Mycah Pittman.
19. The Opening was dead.
“This is supposed to be fun. They’re making it way too serious,” a top QB told me. Players didn’t seem to celebrate big plays like they have in past years.
The dome was empty, as the public wasn’t allowed in for many of the sessions, which made for a lame environment. In the past, the event was held at Nike Headquarters outside Portland, and employees were encouraged to come out and watch the competition.
The security was repeatedly rude to parents for no reason. The playlist was stale and repeated itself way too often, when the music was loud enough to be heard, which wasn’t often. The schedule changed frequently with little or no notice, making it tough for parents to know when their kids were participating. There was no announcer for the lineman challenge portion, so it was tough to know who was participating. Many didn’t even realize the final lineman competition was even going on.
Oh, and there were no concessions, despite temps in the triple digits.
Adidas also got the jump on Nike by having the Rivals.com 5-Star Challenge the two days before The Opening. Parents said their kids had tired legs from competing for almost a week straight.

Baker Mayfield of Oklahoma and star running backs Bryce Love of Stanford and Saquon Barkley of Penn State lead The Associated Press midseason All-America team, along with two defensive backs from No. 1 Alabama.
The team released Tuesday was selected by 16 members of the AP Top 25 voting panel.

Love leads the nation in rushing and is averaging 10.27 yards per carry for No. 22 Stanford. Barkley is second behind Love in yards from scrimmage at 174 yards per game for the second-ranked Nittany Lions.

The Tigers are on the road for the next two weekends as they look to continue their climb up the rankings.
After taking their third straight SEC series, earning the highest rankings the program has seen in some time, and then dropping Tuesday night's midweek game (with a controversial call involved), the Tigers are on the road for the next few weeks to continue trying to prove to the rest of the nation that they're for real.
This weekend, they're in College Station, TX to take on the Aggies of Texas A&M. It's the first of 8 games that will be played on the road over the next two weeks.
The Aggies are currently 20-10 overall, 3-6 in the SEC. They started the conference slate by being swept at home by the other surprise team in the SEC this year, Kentucky. They then dropped a series to Vandy in Nashville before taking 2 of 3 against LSU last weekend.
Auburn, meanwhile, is 7-2 in conference play and 23-8 overall. Auburn has yet to drop a weekend series this season and are ranked as high as 7th in the polls. What made last weekend's win over South Carolina even more impressive was that it was done without the services of ace Keegan Thompson.
Friday 6:30 p.m. RHP Casey Mize (4-1, 1.58) vs. JR RHP Brigham Hill (5-2, 2.60) Saturday 3 p.m. RHP Keegan Thompson (4-0, 0.70) vs. JR RHP Corbin Martin (3-2, 3.90) Sunday 1 p.m.
RHP Davis Daniel (2-1, 4.83) vs. SO RHP Stephen Kolek (1-2, 5.15)
That will not be an issue this weekend. Casey Mize remains in the Friday night role, but Keegan Thompson is coming back to the rotation to pitch Saturday night. I have a feeling he may be on a limited pitch count, but it's still excellent to have him back. A healthy Keegan Thompson makes this team a nightmare to face.
Given the ERAs, this looks to be in Auburn's favor. The ERAs go beyond the starters, of course. The Tigers' first two starters may be one of - if not THE - best one-two punch in the nation. Davis Daniel is a freshman who is showing signs of greatness, but he's still having growing pains. Cole Lipscomb in relief has been pretty excellent to normally guarantee at least one of the Friday or Saturday night games is a win for Auburn. After that, though, the bullpen is hit-or-miss with almost every pitcher having nights of brilliance and then nights where they struggle.
ERA Opp ERA BA OBA Slugging % On Base % Auburn 3.57 5.20 .284 .242 .388 .378 Texas A&M 3.05 6.28 .311 .232 .466 .388
Statistically, this looks to be all in Texas A&M's favor. The Aggies haven't played a slacking schedule, either, as they have a victory over top ten Texas Tech and a close extra-innings loss to consensus #3 TCU. Auburn is going to need to get a lot of good work out of the ace starters and hope the bullpen can hold out. The Aggies have a number of good batters, led by Braden Shewmake who is hitting .365 with 12 doubles, 3 home runs, and 34 RBIs. They don't have a lot of home run hitters, but they're good at getting runners across the plate.
Auburn's leading hitter is Jonah "Joe Dirt" Todd, who is hitting .357 with 10 doubles. Jay Estes seems to be his partner in crime in that department with 9 doubles of his own. Senior Daniel Robert has been having a heck of a year at the plate, as well, batting .325 with a team-leading 26 RBIs (and also getting some work in on the mound, too). I point out the doubles because Auburn gets a lot of them. They currently have 64 on the season. The Tigers' also don't have a lot of home runs, but they have been very good at getting runners across the plate when they need to. This team has found every way imaginable to win this season.
Game Times:
Game 1: Friday, 6:30 pm Central, WatchESPN
Game 2: Saturday, 3:00 pm Central, No TV or Streaming.
Game 3: Sunday, 1:00 pm Central, WatchESPN
