Info on Future Phantom Thieves
(as of the third beta; last updated 1/24/24!)
There are currently several known future Phantom Thieves, and a few other things that may either be related to one of them, or tied to yet another future thief.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first up is Riko Tanemura, also known by the codename Wind.
She’s featured in promo art with the main cast, and she’s present as a silhouette in the second and third betas' title screens along with Wonder, Cattle, Closer, and Soy, so she’ll likely be the next teammate to join in the game’s story.
In all three betas, we see her at school, as a student who mainly appears in scenes to remind other students of the rules. She and Motoha seem to be at least a bit familiar with each other. She was also listed as a Confidant in the first beta (but it was locked), and was present in photo mode in the third beta. The third beta trailer shows her talking to Wonder in a scene that has not yet been present in any beta.
According to datamining, she has battle voice lines indicating she'll be a navigator teammate with the Persona Chiyome, who has been found in the files:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her Japanese voice actress is Atsumi Tanezaki.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The next one’s full name is currently unknown (though her keychain says “Aran”, so that may be part of her name), but she appears in a scene in the second and third betas, and her codename in the files is Polter.
While no visual evidence of her future thief outfit exists in the files, she matches the naming convention used for all known Phantom Thief characters, both story and Phantom Idols, so it’s very likely she will join the team in some capacity.
In the betas, she appears as screenshotted above- riding on the train at the same time as Wonder, Motoha, and Cattle, they unknowingly catch her attention, and she digs around in her bag for her sketchbook as the train is stopped. However, when she looks back, she’s confused to find they’ve vanished into thin air (as they used the MetaNav to enter Mementos to get off the train).
She appears to wear a school uniform underneath her purple jacket, and her bag has the Kiga High School emblem on it, so she’s almost certainly a high school student attending there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The third one’s name is also partially unknown, though some gossiping girls on the train refer to him as “Ikenami-kun”, so his last name is likely Ikenami. His codename in the files is Enco, and he appears very briefly towards the beginning of the second and third betas.
Similarly to Polter, his 3D model in the files matches the Phantom Thief naming convention, so it’s likely he will join the team in some capacity as well.
In the second and third betas, he rides the same train that Wonder is taking to school one morning. Wonder overhears two gossiping Kokatsu girls refer to Enco as a “good-looking guy”, then they recognize his uniform as being Kiga High’s, and exclaim he must be Ikenami-kun (implying he has some kind of reputation to be recognized for). He doesn’t visibly react to their gossip in any way, and is only shown reading his book for the entire scene.
Besides being a Kiga High student, his 3D model has a pin with a II on it, so he’s most likely specifically a second year.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This one's name is completely unconfirmed, though her apparent codename in the files is Liben, and she appears briefly in the third beta. Her Japanese name is written as 梨本成瑠海, which may be read as Narumi Nashimoto, among other possibilities.
She can be found during one of Wonder's Confidant events with Merope. She stands outside a maid cafe in Akihabara, and offers them flyers for the cafe. Later, Merope's Rank 11 event where they actually enter the maid cafe, after Merope has fully researched cafe etiquette, she is their server, and she and Merope play off of each other. Eventually Merope orders enough food that she gives her a special coupon to take pictures with her.
After a moment, she receives a phone call, and has to step away for a moment. The player overhears part of the conversation- she calls the person on the other end her older sister, and tells her there is bento from her part-time job in the fridge. Merope and Wonder have a conversation about going to the photoshoot another time, though I haven't found gameplay of this event.
Like with Polter and Enco, her 3D model in the files matches the Phantom Thief naming convention, so it’s likely she will join the team in some capacity.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even less present in the actual game so far is an unnamed Kokatsu student with the files codename Wuhexi. He has portraits and a 3D model in the third beta, but has not been found in-game anywhere.
As with the others, his 3D model in the files matches the Phantom Thief naming convention.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally, there is also this character with the files codename Jitianzhudai, which seems to be her Chinese name rather than a codename. Her Japanese name is written as 吉田珠代, which has been translated as Tamayo Yoshida (written the same way as Toranosuke Yoshida's last name), though this name is unconfirmed and there are particularly a lot of possibilities for her last name.
She appears in the third beta during ranks 9 and 10 of Motoha's Confidant, having known Motoha in the past when they played baseball together as kids, and now being part of a high school girls' baseball team. She wants Motoha to join her team, seeing Motoha as her "eternal rival" even as Motoha's gotten rusty from not playing baseball for so long, and hopes to eventually revive women's professional baseball.
Like the above characters, her 3D model in the files matches the Phantom Thief naming convention, even if it seems to use her name rather than a codename.
Tumblr media
Other possible aspects related to future Phantom Thieves include the “Pegasus” Persona in the files and an unfamiliar name.
Besides the battle portrait above, Pegasus has a 3D model as well. There’s no indication of whose Persona Pegasus is, however. It could be any of the potential thieves listed above, or someone else entirely.
The unfamiliar Japanese name in the files, 梅洛普, could likewise be either the name of a future teammate, or just someone Wonder receives text messages from.

"Jitianzhudai"'s portraits from the third beta! Jitianzhudai’s 3D model follows the naming convention used for Phantom Thieves (both story and Phantom Idol), so it seems like she's also going to be a future teammate... despite her file name sounding more like a Chinese name than a codename, which is usually how NPC files are named.

The female character with blonde hair and sun visor is named "Tamayo Yoshida"(吉田珠代), which is different from "Namie Komatsu," the woman with the orange hairband. *Pronunciation is provisional. The Kanji of the name her is almost the same as "jitianzhudai"(吉天珠代).She appears in the Motoha Corp Rank 9 event. (according to the stream #15 by よしぞう)
Oh, haha, I've been checking Yoshizou's streams every day for exactly stuff like this! You definitely beat me to watching it, though, I wasn't even awake when you sent this in.
I think he's probably right about Tamayo being her first name, though the last name's a lot harder to say (could be Kichida, Kitta, Yoshita, Yojida, Yotsuda, Raide, etc.). Still, that's a lot more info than we had yesterday, haha!
For anyone who hasn't been keeping up with his videos, here's what happens:
Looks like she shows up in the Rank 9 event sitting in the booth next to Wonder and Motoha's booth, overhears at least part of their conversation, and seems interested that this is Motoha Arai, so she follows them to the batting cage in Yongen-Jaya.
In the Rank 10 event, she sets up in one of the batting cages after Motoha's done, and hits three home runs in a row on "super difficult", which greatly impresses Motoha.
Tumblr media
After, she comes over to Motoha and Wonder, and Motoha immediately compliments her. She says she's been working hard, and calls Motoha her "eternal rival", though Motoha doesn't seem to have any idea who she is.
Tumblr media
She says of course Motoha wouldn't remember a "mediocre person" like herself, and introduces herself as Tamayo Yoshida (though this isn't voiced, so I can't confirm especially her last name, but I'll call her Tamayo because I have to call her something here), a member of the high school girls' baseball club. This name finally jogs Motoha's memory, which makes Tamayo grin.
Motoha's surprised Tamayo is still playing baseball, and Tamayo confirms she kept with it even after Motoha "retired". She "never imagined that her eternal rival would disappear from the pitcher's mound one day without a trace". But it's like an opportunity from a dream for her to see Motoha again, and she asks Motoha to help her. Motoha's confused again.
Tumblr media
Tamayo says that she plays every day in the hopes of reviving women's professional baseball. Alone, her power is limited, but she thinks that if she's with Motoha, they could definitely...!
Motoha's glad to hear her say that, but says she can't help Tamayo like she is now. She couldn't even hit a home run like Tamayo just did. Tamayo isn't deterred in the least, and seems to be saying that's just because Motoha's rusty; she hasn't lost her "baseball genius" yet. As long as she trains hard, she'll become a "first-line" player! Motoha as a kid was good at both pitching and batting.
Motoha admits that's true, but that was in the past.
Tamayo then turns to Wonder.
Tumblr media
She asks him who he is to Motoha, which gives Wonder three options: supervisor (?), friend, or boyfriend. Yoshizou picks "boyfriend", and Motoha says this isn't the time to joke around, clarifying they're friends, and Wonder is her current "coach" (which I believe is the premise of her Confidant). Tamayo says that, from what she's seen, as a coach, he "hasn't done many things well"? Motoha tries to defend Wonder, but Wonder's responses are either "Calm down" or "She's right".
Motoha refuses to back down, and demands Tamayo take back what she said. Tamayo says she's just stating the facts; if Motoha trains with Wonder, she'll never play baseball like she did before. She asks Motoha to join her team, with their first-class coach. Motoha doubles down that she can't help Tamayo, and that she's still bothered by what Tamayo said.
Tamayo finally gets annoyed, and challenges Motoha to home run match. If Motoha wins, Tamayo will take back what she said, but if Tamayo wins, then Motoha has to join her fight for women's professional baseball. Motoha, also still angry, agrees. Tamayo says whoever hits more home runs wins. Motoha just needs to call Tamayo whenever she's ready to face off.
They exchange contact information. Tamayo says she'll be waiting for the day Motoha joins her team, laughs, and leaves.

Hey if you had to take a random guess out of the new characters that we know about rn and by them l mean Enco, Polter, Tamayo, Wuhexi, and Liben who do you think would be story characters for the game and if they are going to be characters soon what kind of powers/skills do you think each one will have? (Fire, Ice, Wind, Electricity, Psychic, Nuke, Bless or Curse)
Just like, completely my own guess?
I think Enco and Polter are the most likely to be story teammates. They're first seen early, and during the story, which feels more like the level of attention that a story teammate would get, as opposed to Tamayo/Jitianzhudai and Liben, who are introduced during another Confidant (which is more of a Confidant kind of introduction). Wuhexi's still kind of a complete mystery, since he hasn't been seen in game at all.
That said, it's entirely possible Enco and Polter aren't story teammates, and that maybe none of the five in question are story teammates at all! Obviously Tomoko and Kiyoshi are both first seen during story events, too, yet neither of them are story teammates. This is totally just my own guesses on who'd be most likely to be a story teammate based on the information we have right now.
I'll be honest, without knowing anything about their will of rebellion, Metaverse outfit, or anything, though, I have no idea what their skills might be, heh. Any guess I made on that, especially considering we barely know anything about these guys, would be a total shot in the dark.

I made a collage of all the Phantom Thieves, including Sophie and Wolf, and the Phantom Idols. I didn't include Toshiro and Erina because Erina is Toshiro's persona and Toshiro's Mask is only seen in his awakening, plus the obvious, he doesn't have a phantom thief outfit and obviously neither does Erina.
Also, I always leave an open space just in case of future Phantom Thieves or Idols, mostly because of Polter and Enco because they're most likely to be Phantom Thieves, and maybe also Liben, Wuhexi, Jitianzhudai and the pegasus persona user or others. After All, what do you think and do you think that we're getting closer for any of these characters to be revealed as Phantom Idols.
Oh, this is cool, thanks for submitting! Makes sense not to include Toshiro, too, considering the P5T art style would look really out of place next to everyone else, heh. He's here in spirit (and of course Erina with him)!
I honestly have no idea if or when they'll reveal more Phantom Idols; I do think it's likely there are a few more, given Liben, Wuhexi, and Jitianzhudai (and whatever's going on, exactly, with Polter and Enco), but I'm honestly not sure whether they'll be revealed before they appear in-game, or when. At the moment, I think it's probably most likely that they won't even be present as teammates in the open beta yet, or they'd be in some of the trailers already! But maybe I'll be surprised, haha.

Which upcoming thief are you excited for out of Enco, Polter, Tamayo, Wuhexi, and Liben?
Oh, good question (in fact, I ran a poll about it, haha)!
Polter is probably the one I'm most excited for right now, particularly because I want to see how she reacts to the fact that Wonder and Motoha disappeared from a stopped train. I feel like that's probably going to be a fun interaction.
That said, though, I am excited for all of them! I hope they are all actually future teammates in some capacity (story or Idol), though I still wonder why Tamayo/jitianzhudai doesn't seem to have a codename with her files, just her Chinese name, despite otherwise matching the naming convention.

So do you think this means Tamayo will still be a playable character or do this think that she’s just apart of Motoha’s confidant?
I mean, right now as far as I know she'll be playable, haha, just like Liben, who also first appears during someone else's Confidant (Merope's, in this case). I don't know if anything changed during development, and maybe they just kept her with that file name convention anyway, so I can't guarantee she'll be playable, but at least from the information I have so far, it certainly seems like she will be! Though granted, having her name instead of a codename is a little weird, and does lend credence towards maybe this being a mistake.
But, honestly, it'd be kind of funny if she does become a Confidant of Wonder's in her own right, somehow: "Yeah, she challenged Motoha to a competition because she wants Motoha to see Wonder isn't a good coach for her and she needs to join the team, but then she also started hanging out with Wonder on her own time anyway, independent of that". That'd be a funny setup, if that's somehow how it works out. Or maybe she's unlocked as a Confidant after you reach a certain later point in Motoha's Confidant, perhaps after the competition?

Okay I'm going to throw out a bunch of theories but: a possibility of ikenami and "wuhexi" being related (not very likely, but my first impression is they seem to have similar facial structure ) | ikenami's codename "enco" being a form of "encore" (ikenami is a musician?) i'm curious to know how anyone from kiga gets involved or even "jitianzhudai" (since wuhexi is a kokatsu student and we don't know if liben is even a student or not)
Ikenami and Wuhexi being related would be fun, I can kind of see where you're coming from with that! I agree, probably not likely, but it'd be a funny detail if they happened to be cousins or something.
Yeah, Enco being possibly short for "enco" seems like the best guess anyone has on what the deal with his codename is right now, haha. Unless maybe it comes from the middle of a word instead of the beginning? Though that would be an odd choice. But "encore" would make more sense if he's a musician! And that might even explain why those Kokatsu girls on the train had heard of him, too. You could be onto something with that.
My guess for how the Kiga students get involved is that they're probably similar to Yusuke (if they're story teammates), where it's due to them being connected to a future Palace ruler. Or two future Palace rulers, I suppose, if Enco and Polter are both story teammates, haha. Though in Polter's case, I could also see it having something to do with her apparent interest in sketching Wonder and Ruferu? Maybe she goes looking for them since they disappeared from the train, and gets mixed up in a later arc even though she doesn't have a personal connection to the Palace ruler?
Same with Jitianzhudai and Liben, if either or both of them are story teammates. In P5, it sort of coincidentally ended up working out that most of their teammates were from Shujin, but I could easily see P5X potentially broadening the team with people that don't go to Kokatsu but get pulled into phantom thievery due to their involvement with a Palace ruler.

The female character with blonde hair, ponytail and sun visor looks similar to Namie Komatsu (the female character in the purple jacket), maybe it is an initial draft data?
Yeah, they have similar outfits, I was thinking the same thing when I first saw them in the files. It could be that, I'm really not sure.
(Also, does she say her name at some point in gameplay, or was that name just translated by a streamer?)

I am super excited for the next beta for the game to come out soon and I’m wondering what the next phantom idols we will see in the beta besides Riko. Personally I’m hoping we get some more idols with Nuke, Wind, and Ice skills and possibly just one more navigator.
Yeah, I'm looking forward to that as well!
Considering we have two idols each for Psy and Curse (and Navigation if you count it), I'd sort of expect to get a second idol for each element, though it could perhaps be that those elements are doubled because there won't be a story teammate with those two elements? Right now, if you count story teammates, we also have two Bless, Ice, Electric, and Fire users in the P5X cast, which would suggest there are maybe only story teammates for Wind (presumably Riko) and Nuke left, along with maybe a navigator, if that theory's correct, though... so maybe we are getting two idols for each element, at least eventually, haha, or maybe they're just uneven.
Either way, I feel like we must have most of the cast by now, if not all, given we have 17 confirmed teammates counting Riko, which becomes 22 if you add Polter, Enco, Liben, Wuhexi, and Jitianzhudai, which completely covers the 22 Major Arcana (likely with an added one like Aeon, Faith, etc., considering The World is usually reserved for the protagonist at the end of the game). Of course, it's still unclear whether they'll include Arcana in the final game at all, so maybe they won't have that theoretical restriction?

I feel like Phantom Idols work the same, but entirely different from Confidants, mostly because they're still confidants but they turn into Phantom Idols, so I think that based on the open beta SMS icons, that have the confidant arcana style that, the character confidants from the P5 universe will stay the same, but the non-NPC, New confidants will become Phantom Idols, showing how almost all the confidants become phantom idols. So, there's a big chance that the characters like, Liben, Jitianzhudai and Ribbon girl will all become phantom idols showing that they all have Confidant Arcana art.
Hold on, I think you're mixing up a few things here? The SNS icons don't confirm someone is a Confidant, they're not Confidant art like you see in the Confidant menu of P5 despite resembling it. They're SNS- that is, phone messaging- icons. All their existence confirms is that Wonder will receive a text message from them at some point.
I'm also not totally clear on what you mean by "Phantom Idols work the same, but entirely different from Confidants"? Those are completely separate functions, so they do in fact work entirely differently. In the two posts that I think sparked this ask, the latter does link Confidants and Phantom Idols, but it's only citing the popular theory that every Confidant character will also join the team as a Phantom Idol character, and vice versa. So far that hasn't actually been confirmed, it just seems to be the pattern, and there's no known link in the game mechanics between your progress with a Confidant and their function as a Phantom Idol yet, either. So, all that to say, Confidants and Phantom Idols are entirely separate mechanics, and the only thing linking them might be that a character who is one is also always the other.
The way that I've been identifying future Phantom Idols (and therefore, probably future Confidants too) is through their file names. Phantom Thieves and Idols have a specific way their files are named, while other characters are usually named differently. Enco, Polter, Jitianzhudai, and Liben (and Wuhexi, who we've since seen concept art of the thief outfit for in one of the behind-the-scenes videos) all follow the Phantom Thief/Idol naming style (files that just start with "codename_"), as opposed to the NPC naming style (files that start with "n_name" or other letters; personas start with "p_name", etc.), so I suspect them as future teammates because of that, not because of any particular files I have or haven't found for them yet.
If I've misunderstood your ask though, and you were saying something else, let me know!
