i have no particular drum-related preferences that come to mind but my favorite solo artists are cat stevens, jim croce, gerry rafferty, and donovan……among others :’)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Lili-Babs, Samuel Barber, Carl Betz, the late, great guitarist Chris Bovard, Trevor Burton (The Move), John Cale, Robert Calvert (Hawkwind), Ornette Coleman, Jane Antonia Cornish, Jim Cregan, Jerry Eubanks (Marshall Tucker), Jimmie Fadden, Linda Fiorentino, Martin Fry (ABC), Will Geer, Mickey Gilley, Zakir Hussain, Raul Julia, Kato Kaelin, Laura Lee, Mahler’s 3rd Symphony (1897), Mark Mancina, Jeffrey Osborne, Lloyd Price, Bobby Sands, Thomas Schippers, Bodhi Setchko, Keely Smith, Taeyeon, Chris Thompson (Mannfred Mann’s Earth Band), Diego Torres, Robin Trower, U2’s 1987 JOSHUA TREE album, Gary Walker (Standells, Walker Brothers), Paul Winter, and one of the greatest frontman in rock’n’roll: Mark Lindsay, best known as the singer for Paul Revere & The Raiders. In their major label era of the 1960s and early 70s, PR&TR were one of the tightest and most visible acts in the business. They were the first real rock band signed to Columbia Records, and their garage band energy and declarative stage look pushed back on the British Invasion bands of 1964.
The Raiders kicked out hit after hit in multiple genres including bubblegum, country rock, hard rock, psychedelia, and soul/r’n’b, all with dazzling excellence. They cut the first definitive version of “Louie Louie” before leaving their Oregon base for Los Angeles, joining Terry Melcher (Byrds producer) to launch a prolific and innovative run of great records that still play today: “Just Like Me”, “Kicks” and (recently in the film ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD) “Good Thing,” “Hungry,” “Mr. Sun Mr. Moon,” etc. Between 1965 and 1970, as Dick Clark expanded his jukebox TV empires, he hired PR&TR to host three TV shows. Before The Monkees even twanged “Last Train to Clarksville,” PR&TR had already set the bar for TV bands, gluing pre-adolescent me to the tube with rock’n’roll comedy and ear candy—and there was eye candy for 1000s of girls screaming for teen idol Mark Lindsay. He set the bar as a powerhouse vocalist, able to croon soft sensual pop ballads then flip to paint-peeling bluesy growls.
The Raiders crested in 1971 with the #1 hit “Indian Reservation,” which was a repackaging of a Mark Lindsay solo recording (backed by the Wrecking Crew). As a solo act, Mark was already charting with “Silver Bird” and the hippy girl anthem “Arizona.” He branched into other music business roles, composing jingles and songs for films and TV shows. Legendary author Stephen King expressed his fan-dom with Mark’s 2001 cover of “Treat Her Right,” backed by Los Straitjackets.
Meanwhile, Mark’s career intersected with The Carpenters, The Chesterfield Kings, Eric Johnson, Carla Olson, Gerry Rafferty, Barbra Streisand, Dionne Warwick, and The Monkees, whose orbit led me to cross paths with Mark a couple of times, and he always treated me like a gentleman. I first saw him in concert in 1993, and it was a rock solid show loaded with the hits and deep cuts. Lately he’s been active doing radio shows and webcasts, the latest being “The American Revolution” on Sirius XM.
If I had to pick one Mark Lindsay track, it’s "Too Much Talk.” It blew my mind when I was a kid—my 45 of it cracked but I kept pressing it with my fingers till the vinyl tissued. The fidelity on this clip is a tad distorted, but the visuals speak volumes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EG30aN53GkY Meanwhile, HB and thank you Mark for continuing to inspire and entertain with your skills and talents.

Exploring the Market Dynamics: 14 Must-Watch Stock Market Documentaries
Tumblr media
In the world of finance, the stock market is a fascinating and complex entity that affects economies, industries, and individual investors alike. Understanding its intricacies, successes, failures, and the individuals behind its movements can be both enlightening and educational. One medium that has effectively captured these elements is documentary filmmaking. From the early days of Wall Street to modern-day trading algorithms, there's a plethora of documentaries that offer insights into the stock market's history, its key players, and the impact it has on our world. Here, we'll delve into 14 captivating stock market documentaries that provide viewers with a comprehensive understanding of this dynamic realm.
"Trader" (1987) Directed by Paul Boorstin and Kevin Rafferty, "Trader" follows the legendary hedge fund manager Paul Tudor Jones during the 1987 market crash. Jones provides viewers with a firsthand account of his strategies, mindset, and the rollercoaster ride of trading during turbulent times.
"Inside Job" (2010) Directed by Charles Ferguson, "Inside Job" meticulously dissects the 2008 financial crisis, shedding light on the complex web of greed, corruption, and regulatory failure that led to the global economic meltdown. Featuring interviews with economists, policymakers, and industry insiders, this documentary offers a sobering look at the darker side of Wall Street.
"The Ascent of Money" (2008) Based on Niall Ferguson's book of the same name, this documentary series traces the evolution of money and financial systems throughout history. From the origins of banking to the rise of modern finance, "The Ascent of Money" explores how economic forces shape our world.
"Floored" (2009) Directed by James Allen Smith, "Floored" takes viewers inside the frenetic world of open-outcry trading pits, focusing on the traders who once thrived in Chicago's futures markets. As electronic trading systems replace traditional floor trading, this documentary captures the end of an era and the human stories behind the transition.
"The China Hustle" (2017) Directed by Jed Rothstein, "The China Hustle" exposes the rampant fraud and deception behind many Chinese companies listed on U.S. stock exchanges. Through interviews with investors, whistleblowers, and industry experts, the documentary highlights the dangers of investing in opaque markets and the need for greater transparency.
"Wall Street Warriors" (2006-2008) This documentary series offers a behind-the-scenes look at the lives of various individuals working in finance, including hedge fund managers, day traders, and investment bankers. From the highs of lucrative deals to the lows of market downturns, "Wall Street Warriors" provides a glimpse into the real-life drama of Wall Street.
"Betting on Zero" (2016) Directed by Ted Braun, "Betting on Zero" investigates the controversial practices of Herbalife, a multi-level marketing company accused of operating as a pyramid scheme. Through interviews with investors, activists, and former employees, the documentary explores the battle between hedge fund manager Bill Ackman, who bets against Herbalife, and the company's supporters.
"Quants: The Alchemists of Wall Street" (2010) Directed by Marije Meerman, "Quants" delves into the world of quantitative finance and the rise of mathematical models in trading. Through interviews with leading quants and academics, the documentary examines how algorithms and computer-driven strategies have reshaped the financial landscape.
"Rogue Trader" (1999) Based on the true story of Nick Leeson, "Rogue Trader" follows the downfall of the former derivatives broker whose unauthorized trades led to the collapse of Barings Bank in 1995. Starring Ewan McGregor, the film offers a cautionary tale about the dangers of unchecked risk-taking and financial hubris.
"Money for Nothing: Inside the Federal Reserve" (2013) Directed by Jim Bruce, "Money for Nothing" provides a comprehensive look at the Federal Reserve and its role in shaping monetary policy and regulating the economy. Featuring interviews with central bankers, economists, and policymakers, the documentary explores the Fed's impact on interest rates, inflation, and financial markets.
"Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room" (2005) Based on the book by Bethany McLean and Peter Elkind, this documentary examines the rise and fall of Enron, one of the largest corporate scandals in history. Through interviews with former employees, journalists, and regulators, "Enron" exposes the corporate greed and accounting fraud that led to the company's demise.
"The Pit" (2010) Directed by Johan Palmgren, "The Pit" offers a gritty portrayal of life on the trading floor of the New York Mercantile Exchange. Through intimate interviews with floor traders and brokers, the documentary captures the adrenaline-fueled atmosphere of commodity trading and the human drama behind each transaction.
"The Wall Street Code" (2013) Directed by Marije Meerman, "The Wall Street Code" explores the world of high-frequency trading and the role of algorithms in modern markets. Through interviews with computer scientists and industry insiders, the documentary reveals how these complex systems have transformed trading and raised questions about market fairness and stability.
"Boom Bust Boom" (2015) Directed by Terry Jones, "Boom Bust Boom" combines animation, interviews, and archival footage to explore the recurring patterns of financial bubbles and crashes throughout history. With insights from economists and psychologists, the documentary examines the irrational exuberance and herd mentality that drive market cycles.
In conclusion, these 14 stock market documentaries offer a diverse array of perspectives on the world of finance, from the highs of market booms to the lows of financial scandals. Whether you're an experienced investor or a curious observer, these films provide valuable insights into the inner workings of the stock market and the forces that shape our global economy. So, grab some popcorn and prepare to be entertained, enlightened, and perhaps even inspired by these captivating tales from the world of finance.

A-T-3 088 Velly Joonas ‎- Stopp, Seisku Aeg!
I'm about to write about YouTube and this seemed to be floating about in my algorithmically picked 'recommended' list for aeons
Velly Joonas ‎- Stopp, Seisku Aeg! is a cover of Jim Rafferty's I See Red which was first recorded by Frida (A-T-2 081). Clannad also had a minor hit with their cover of the song in 1983
Estonian Velly Joonas's version was recorded in 1983 but not released until 2015. I was just reading about nostalgia for the future in relationship to Japanese 'City Pop' and they other video that hung around YouTube recommendations Last Love. I wonder if this is a fantasy about the promise of a socialist future past and the current state of capitalist realism?

Muppet Fact #243
Miss Piggy's dog, Foo-Foo, had a bit of an aversion to Kermit and anything green, so she had to be re-homed and sent to pet therapy back in 2011. In 2014, Foo-Foo returned, possibly indicating that her pet therapy helped with her fear of green.

OH MY GOSH! I LOVE the Rankin/Bass specials too!! I know some people think they're creepy but I think they're super charming and the songs slap! And I'm also obsessed with stop motion too.
I think my favorites are probably Santa Claus Is Coming To Town and Rudolph. There's a couple of their specials I haven't seen that I'd like to.
And of course I love A Charlie Brown Christmas. Honestly most of those specials are pretty good.
But as far as movies go? National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Some of it's a bit... dated... but overall I think it's pretty funny, and I love a John Hughes movies so there's that.
I'm switching gears again, but do you have any album recs?
And also if you could bring back any musician whose passed on who would it be and why?
i just think they're so interesting and cool looking!! and yesss rudolph is so cute :') have you seen mad monster party?? it's a halloween rankin/bass special. i watched it for the first time last year and it's pretty cool :^)
oh yeah i forgot a charlie brown christmas!! that's another one of my favorites tbh. i also really love the music from it! i've actually never seen national lampon's christmas vacation except for like, a few little clips here and there!
hmmmmmm, i am extremely biased but by default i recommend at least most elo albums to pretty much anyone, but i think you're already aware of those haha!! it kind of depends on what you're into, but just as general recommendations, there are a few bee gees albums that i tend to recommend because i feel like people often overlook the bee gees and/or forget that they did A LOT more than just disco (which is good too!!! but like, there's sooo much more than that). so for bee gees albums i would definitely recommend idea and odessa :') those are my top choices, but beyond those, i think life in a tin can and mr. natural are some really underrated but Very Good albums. other than the bee gees, here are a few general recommendations, in no particular order (which is basically just going to be me listing a bunch of my favorite albums but whatever):
anything at all by jim croce tbh
the slider - t. rex
city to city - gerry rafferty
catch bull at four - cat stevens
new masters - cat stevens (for a very different vibe from the cat stevens music most people are accustomed to)
anyway!! your last question is soooooo hard to answer because there are so many i could choose, honestly!! i feel like my first inclination is to say marc bolan because i often wonder what he would be doing now (or even just like, beyond the 70s), and i think it's just so sad that he died so young, especially with so much talent and potential in many different ways. but there are SO many who i wish were still with us, so like...all of them, please :(
