Kid Chaos V. Holmzie Da God:
Both these performers bring a mix of high aggression and very direct material for their opponent to contend with. Holmzie can get to the punch quicker and doesn’t usually sacrifice much in terms of complexity to accomplish that. This puts pressure on Chaos to keep up and could allow him to dictate the pace of the battle. Chaos’ longer setups are a disadvantage on paper but his edge in performance and ability to maintain engagement through unique rhyme schemes and cadences creates a less disjointed feeling round with potentially more satisfying payoffs. Holmzie 2-1 edge in a close battle.
Jakkboy Maine V. Th3 Saga:
Saga possess the advantage in terms of punches, angles, and an underrated sense of humor. With that being said, Jakkboy’s creativity and electric performance stand to overpower Saga in front of the Oakland crowd. Taking into account angles Jakkboy has at his disposal, and the impressive counter writing ability he displayed against Ooops and T Top makes this difficult for Saga. This battle almost feels overdue considering the runs these 2 were on at the height of the “BANNED” series’ popularity, so I have high hopes for this one. Jakkboy 2-1.
Emerson Kennedy V. Chilla Jones
I’m excited to see Emerson in front of a west coast crowd again, his Jey The Nitewing and B Dot performances are still some of my favorite battles to go back to. He’s the more direct of the two performers and I expect him to exploit this advantage to the best of his ability vs this opponent. However, Chilla’s wittier approach coupled with more engaging delivery and cadences pose a threat in this setting. Chilla 2-1 clear.
Fonz V. Tink The Demon:
Fonz has shown himself to be one of the most dangerous performers on URL today. A gritty delivery, aggressive commanding performance, and hard hitting fast paced punches make him difficult to compete with. Tink on the other hand, matches similar aggression with a unique horrorcore approach that could offset a crowd with their ears tuned more towards Fonz material. Tink’s performance in his 2on2 with Danny Myers also gives me the impression that he’ll be rapping with more to prove in this battle. Tink 2-1 upset.
Danny Myers V. Ace Amin:
Ace’s aggressive style and impressive multis put pressure on his opponents. However, Myers possesses all of the same abilities in his wheelhouse, along with better punches, angles, and more unique concepts. Ace will need to go above and beyond for this one. Danny 3-0 in a good battle.
Jey The Nitewing V. Loso:
Jey’s writing is great, and super unorthodox. Both have a knack for pacing with Loso having the advantage performance wise. His angles are also slightly better. I see Jey’s delivery and writing overpowering Loso on the 20th. Jey 2-1 clear.
Rum Nitty V. Lu Castro:
Lu Castro has shown himself to be incredibly well rounded, and displays a level of personality which makes it difficult to root against him. Rum’s uniqueness as a puncher, his performance, delivery, and consistency greatly push thing into his favor. Castro’s angling and comedy advantages are going to be critical to pull out a win here. Rum 2-1.

URL To Air Ultimate Madness Elimination Tournament On Caffeine

The Ultimate Rap League (URL) has emerged as the premier battle rap league and now fans of the competitive art form will have access to an elimination tournament for the ages. This Saturday (May 23), URL by way of Caffeine will play host to the Ultimate Madness tournament where 16 battle rappers will face off for an opportunity to win a major cash prize and a slot at URL’s NOME X (10) event.
Previously known as Ultimate Freestyle Friday, Ultimate Madness will grant the winner a $25,000 grand prize and shot to battle at URL’s largest event. The event will be judged by Tony Bro, Knowledge The God, Uncle Ra, and Reda, who will help decide the fates of the 16 MCs as they square March Madness bracket-style.
Round one of Ultimate Madness will feature a total of eight battles over the first two weekends of the tournament. For week one, Squeako vs. Your Honor, Gunpowder Patt vs. Ru Bando, Jey the Nitewing vs. Real Sikh, Kid Chaos vs. Lu Castro will all find themselves in opposition starting at 4PM ET, 1PM PT. On Monday (May 25), Jay Black and Smack will host a recap event at 8PM ET, 5PM PT.
“We’re continuing to keep the battle rap culture alive on Caffeine during this quarantine. More and more fans are tuning in every week for our virtual battles and Primetime on Caffeine. And they’re going to love Ultimate Madness,” Smack said in a statement.
With the COVID-19 pandemic rendering face-to-face battles in crowded venues obsolete, URL has moved to host virtual battles and continuing to work heavily with Caffeine to keep the content fresh and moving until things return to the new normal.
