Jay Halstead - Overnight Dad

Chapter 6
You had fallen asleep due to being exhausted. This was probably the worst reaction you had ever had. Jay unbeknown to you hadn’t left your side since arriving. He sat there watching as you slept holding your hand internally beating himself up. Hailey and Will watched from outside knowing that he needed to do this alone.
“Y’know it’s not his fault right?” Will asked Hailey but in more of a statement, “He needs to realise this and stop beating himself up,”
Hailey scoffed, “That’s like talking to a brick wall. He’ll over analyse this for the next month,” She knew he meant well. But he could be over critical on himself.
Hailey was distracted by the buzz of her phone. A message from Kelly asking how you were. He took off shortly after Jay and Hailey arrived as it had been scary for Katie. She replied telling him you were sleeping it off.
You could hear noises around you, but it took you a minute to remember where you were. The hospital. You’re eyes began to flicker open and a groan escaped your lips. You felt a hand in yours which you presumed to be your dads.
“Hey kiddo,” The voice brought you to reality as he gave your hand a gentle squeeze. “Good sleep?” He asked as he watched you begin to take in your surroundings. You nodded and tried to sit up in the bed which he instantly helped you with. By this point Hailey, Will and Natalie had entered the room. Natalie was the doctor who was actually treating you.
You gave them all a little smile, still too exhausted to speak. Natalie went through some questions and checks but gave you the all clear to go home. After twenty minutes you were set to head home still feeling exhausted. You hadn’t really spoken which wasn’t completely abnormal for you as you were a really shy kid. Jay held onto your hand as you had refused a wheelchair but you were a bit wobbly on your feet, jays instincts were telling him to just carry you but that was still un chartered territory. So when you stopped and looked up at him he was surprised when those words came out your mouth. “Can you carry me please?” Hailey was shocked too but a smile crept across her face.
He cleared his throat, “yeah of course,” he smiled before bending and lifting you up, positioning you to his side slightly and you wrapped your legs around his waist, arms around his neck and rested your head on his shoulder. It felt odd, but in a nice way, jay felt the same. Hailey by this point was walking behind and snuck her phone out to get a picture as she knew this was a moment worth remembering. By the time you had all gotten to Jay’s truck you had fallen asleep and become a bit of a dead weight, not that Jay minded.
“Hails, can you get the door please? She’s asleep,” he whispered in an attempt to not wake you.
“She looks like you when she sleeps,” Hailey held the door open and they both stood for a second to take in the tiny human (to them anyways) that had rocked their world. Smiling Jay closed the door quietly.
The journey home lasted twenty minutes and you had slept through all of it absolutely exhausted from today. Jay unbuckled your seat belt and carefully lifted you again into his arms, cursing himself as he heard you begin to stir.
“Shh, we’re home, go back to sleep” he whispered before kissing your head. You lay with your head resting on his shoulder as your eyes adjusted to the surroundings of the hallway to your apartment.
Hailey had gone ahead and opened up the doors to make it easier for Jay. He headed straight for your bed room as you lay quietly holding onto your dad, him not aware that you had started to wake up.
He pulled the covers back and gently placed you down taking surprise when he noticed that you weren’t sleeping.
“Hey, kiddo.” He spoke softly whilst tucking you in. “I’ll let you sleep for a bit and then we can think about food. Sound okay?” He asked before standing up.
You nodded your head, feeling the tiredness deep over you again. Jay turned on his heels and went to walk out the door before stopping with surprise when he heard you speak.
“Dad?” His head turned as he tried to wipe the shock off his face, “yeah kiddo?”
“Can you stay?” You asked, moving to create some space for your dad to sit. His face softened as he realised what you were asking. He nodded and took his jacket off, laying it on your desk before sitting on the side of your queen size bed. He felt a little uncomfortable as once again this was something completely new to him but he leaned back against the head board and lifted his feet up to get comfy. You instantly closed the gap, cuddling into his side with half eyed Ted before crashing out again. As he put his arm around you, he couldn’t help the giant grin that crept along his face. It no longer felt uncomfortable, instead it felt comfortably normal.
This, he could get used too.

Jay Halstead #8
“Well who’s taking her then?” Jay asked as he picked up the flyer from your bedroom floor and handed it to Will. His face scrunched up as he read the writing.
“Father daughter dance, Saturday the 26th of September 2020, 1900”
“Well I can’t dance and neither of us are her dad,” Will said passing the flyer back to Jay.
“Dude, come on. She clearly wants to go considering she has the flyer.” The middle child tried to explain.
“I have a thing on anyways so I can’t take her,” Will bluntly stated making it very clear he would not want to be apart of this. Jay just rolled his eyes.
It was almost a week before the dance and you still hadn’t mentioned anything thinking that you would know your brothers answers already. However Jay has enlisted the help of Hailey and Kim. They were taking you shopping to find a dress under the impression that there was a charity event for the CPD coming up and you needed an outfit.
It worked. They managed to get you a lovely grey dress which made you look very mature which they knew your brothers would hate. But you looked good. It was always super nice being able to spend some time with females since your brothers could be pretty oblivious to the fact that you were not in fact a boy.
However, the day of the dance you became very suspicious when Kim arrived to try and sneakily do your hair and makeup under Jays instructions.
“Shut up and let me practice,” Kim ordered, proclaiming that she was trying to practice out some looks for when she goes undercover. You presumed that she was just bored. It wasn’t until you were done and she suggested trying on your dress to see what you thought you began to question what was going on.
“I’m so confused right now,” you joked looking at yourself in the mirror. You saw the door opening to find your brother standing in a suit with a corsage wearing his signature goofy smile.
“What is going on?” You asked looking between them both.
“I found the flyer (y/n), so I thought I’d surprise you.” Jay said still smiling at you as he tried to figure out your expression.
Fighting hard to keep the tears from falling, you threw yourself into his arms.
“You look so like mom,” Jay spoke softly giving you a squeeze.
“Right enough cuddles, you’re going to ruin my master piece,” Kim laughed pulling you over to the mirror.
“Doesn’t she look amazing?” She asked Jay.
He just nodded m, trying not to tear up knowing that it should be dad standing here and not him.
He came over holding his hand out for you, “right, I think it’s time I took you for a dance,” you reached your hand out to his with a smile, too scared to speak incase you started crying.
-
“Thank you,” you said, before taking a drink.
Your brother sat across from you in the booth of the 24 hour diner, you all often frequented. You guys lasted two hours at the dance and decided to go for burgers.
“It’s all good,” he said giving you a smile before finishing his burger.
“It really means a lot Jay,”
“I know,”
With that you guys finished your meal in silence with everything already being said. He knew how much you struggled without mom and dad. He was just thankful of being older and having more time with them and knew that they’d both be hella proud of you. Because he certainly was.

You knew it would happen eventually. You were fifteen turning sixteen in a month. It was destined. But nothing prepared you for when it actually happened. Thankfully your brother was at work and Hailey had been around enough to leave a stash of supplies that you could use in the emergency.
You finally got your period. You honestly couldn’t think of anything worse to try and explain to your adult brothers. Well, Will would hopefully be a bit more sensitive considering he’s a doctor.
You text Jay asking if he was at the station as you needed to borrow some money due to leaving your bag at Wills. He replied to say that he’d be there in twenty minutes giving you plenty of time to walk round.
As you arrived you were welcomed by Trudy who was always pleased to see you.
“I’ll buzz you up kid,” she smiled before turning around to give an officer into trouble making you laugh.
The pain in your stomach increased as you climbed the stairs. Your face gave the pain away.
“(y/n) you okay?” Adam asked as you passed his desk. His question caught the attention of Jay who observed you as you gave your answer.
You nodded, “Yeah I’m okay thanks” you replied smiling hoping he’d believe you. But of course he didn’t and neither did anyone else in intelligence.
“What’s up?” Your brother asked furrowing his brows together.
“Just wondered if I could borrow some money so I can go to the shops for some supplies. I left my bag at Wills last night. He’s dropping it off tonight.” You replied hoping he wouldn’t pry.
“I just got some stuff in the other day, what do you need?” He asked, your face already going red at the situation. You could feel everyone watching your encounter with Jay.
“Ehh, just something that I need to pick up for me.” You whispered cryptically hoping he would read in between the lines.
He just looked at you with a blank expression.
“Jay please. Don’t ask anything else. I just need some money to buy something. Don’t worry it’s not drugs. I’ll pay you back,” you groaned hoping this would be over as soon as possible.
“Mm’kay, here’s twenty. Text me when you get home please,” he reached for his wallet and handed you the money.
“Thank you and I will,” you grabbed the money and turned on your heels to make a swift exit hoping that no one would stop you.
Which luckily no one did. They just bade their farewells.
-
“Well that was weird,” Jay pondered looking at his team. Hailey and Kim just laughed at how clueless he was being.
“Jay, isn’t it obvious?” Kim spoke, which resulted in jay being even more confused.
“She’s obviously gotten her period and needs money for supplies doofus,” Hailey said bluntly, making Jays jaw drop in realisation.
“Oh fuck,” was all he could say as his mind raced over all the the possibilities of what could be coming his way. He could deal with pretty much any situation but his baby sister taking a step in growing up was something he wasn’t sure if he was equipped for.
The rest of the shift went by pretty quiet meaning Jay spent some time on the internet researching what to do for his little sister. He made a list and decided to drop by the store on the way home.
“Coming to Molly’s?” Hailey asked as they made their way to their respective cars.
“I’ll give it a miss. Gonna head to the store and pick some things up for (y/n).” Panic written all over his face as he held up his shopping list.
Hailey smiled at her partner, “need a hand? It can be pretty daunting if you don’t know what you need” she offered knowing how clueless Jay could be.
“I’d actually really appreciate that”
-
It was around six when Jay arrived home, fully armed with supplies for a chill movie night with his sister. He had text Will earlier in the day to tell him and to act surprised if she said anything, knowing how embarrassed you could get.
Opening the apartment door he noticed that the TV was on showing a movie and you were curled up on the couch with a blanket. You waved not having the energy to speak. He smiled waving back.
Emptying the contents of the bag after putting the kettle on he panicked at how he should handle giving you your women’s supplies. So he poured the hot water into your hot water bottle and put the pizza in the oven. He left the supplies in the bag and put them in your cupboard in the bathroom. Deciding to save both of you the embarrassment.
You lifted your feet so he could sit down and stretched your legs over his. He handed the water bottle over to you with a caring smile.
“I got ice cream, pizza and chocolate.” He said.
Of course with your hormones being all over the place, and your doofus of a brother being so nice you started crying.
“I honestly don’t know why I’m crying but thank you Jay. I’d hug you if it wasn’t too sore to move” laughed.
“It’s okay, I got you,” he said sweetly making you smile.
This is definitely not how you expected today to go.

We’re Family (Jay and Will Halstead) Pt 1
Tumblr media
(Not my gif)
Darren had broken your heart for the last time. This was it. This was your time to leave without him persuading you to stay and telling you all his bull shit about how he had changed. You’d heard it one too many times. Your older brothers had never really liked Darren, Jay made it obvious whereas Will was a little more discreet. Sylvie, your partner on ambo 61 had a spare room in her apartment which she offered to you when you told her that you were leaving.
Darren thought you had once again forgiven him and carried on like nothing was wrong. Blissfully unaware at your exit strategy. You had decided to take what you could today, and then come back for your other stuff, hopefully with the help of your brothers.
“Bye babe, I’m away for a run,” This was it. You sprung up off the couch after hearing the door shut and finished packing your stuff up that you had secretly started the night before. People would have called you crazy if they heard about your plan. But they didn’t know Darren, he could be very possessive. Escaping whilst he wasn’t there was the best option. He hadn’t realised that you had already packed your car with some stuff, leaving him with an almost empty apartment. So all you had to grab was your stuff from the bathroom which you packed in your suitcase before placing your goodbye letter on the kitchen bunker.
The only regret you had was ever staying after the first time he had cheated. As you closed the door you felt like this was the closing of this chapter, allowing you to move on with your life. After a short drive you arrived at Sylvies apartment block where she was stood waiting on you.
“Hey!” You shouted as you got out the car and gave her a hug.
“How does it feel?” She asked squeezing your shoulders.
You sighed, “It feels good but I also feel guilty,”
“No, no, no, do not feel guilty! Come on, I ordered pizza for us whilst we get you unpacked.” She said grabbing some of your bags.
After a couple of hours your nerves and guilt faded, you weren’t sure if this was down to the beers you had consumed to wash the pizza down or not, but it felt good. Luckily Darren hadn’t bombarded you with messages and calls like you had expected, it was radio silence which allowed you to fall asleep easily enough.
Sylvie drove you guys to work which was just another perk of you guys moving in together. Your shift went fairly fast and as you were back from a call you weren’t completely surprised to see Darren standing on the apparatus floor.
“Seriously? You’re seriously just going about life like normal?” He yelled as he stormed up to you. You could feel everyone watching your interaction.
“Darren, there was no other way that I could leave. I tried before but you made it so difficult. I don’t want to life my life like this. Every time we fight you go out and find someone to forget your troubles with whilst I’m sat at home knowing exactly what’s happening. It’s not fair,” you tried to calmly explain.
“Not fair? No, not fair is you banishing out of mid air and acting like you haven’t just left me,” you could see he was getting angry.
“Look, Darren, I know it was a dick move what I did, but I felt like it was the only option. It’s over. It has been for years but we’ve just been too blind to see it,” you pleaded, knowing what was coming.
“Let me guess, you’ve found someone else? Found someone better who will put up with you and your dramatics?” He spun around, eyes fixed upon Matt. “It’s him isn’t it?” He spat out with venom. “You’ve fucked off with your precious captain?” Darren began to take steps towards Matt but you ran in between them to stop Darren before he done anything stupid.
“I haven’t moved on to any one, not that it’s any of your business. I’ve just moved out to a friends house, away from you. Don’t bring anyone else into it,” you begged hoping to calm him down.
“Oh you’re protecting him now? Pity you never once tried to protect me huh? You’re such a whore,” he said as he pushed you away from him, sending you to the ground. An eruption of chaos followed suit after you regained your senses.
“Beth? Beth you okay?” Stella asked as she helped you up, checking you over.
Nodding you replied, “I’m all good, is he gone?” You asked looking at everyone sympatheticly.
“Yeah, he’s gone. What happened between you guys?” Matt asked, looking genuinely concerned.
You spent the rest of the shift explaining what had happened and why you left like that. Everyone understood and offered you their help, as you knew they would.
After the days events everyone decided to head to Molly’s which you were very happy to accompany them with. Three beers later your table was filled with your older brothers looking expectantly at you.
“What?” You asked bluntly taking a swig of your beer.
Jay scoffed, “So you don’t think to tell us that you finally broke up with douche bag Darren?”
“And that he rocked up at the firehouse and assaulted you?” Will questioned looking very concerned.
“Calm down guys, he just pushed me, he didn’t attack me. I didn’t think I had to tell you about every detail of my life,” you rolled your eyes.
“Come on Beth, you know what we mean. We’re each others only family, it pays to keep us in the loop instead of hearing it from Hermann,” Jay spoke, looking at you intently.
“Guys, honestly, I’m fine. It was well over due and he reacted a lot better than I thought he was going too. I’ve moved in with Sylvie and we’re supposed to be here celebrating,” you tried to get them to drop it.
“Beth, if he does anything to you I swear to god-“
“Jay, enough. Just drop it. I’m not fifteen anymore, I don’t need you threatening my boyfriends off,” you bluntly interrupted him and storming off outside to get a bit of fresh air. You tried to calm yourself down by walking around Molly’s, you knew they were only showing that they cared but you were so fed up of being treated like a baby. As you headed back to the pub you heard a car stop and then it went dark.

Jay Halstead #4
Tumblr media
(not my gif)
Jay had been ringing you for almost an hour. 15 missed calls and over 20 unread texts. But you didn’t care. You were celebrating your friends eighteenth birthday with beer pong. It was now 1.00am and you were currently dancing around with your on and off ex Max, who you may still have feelings for and Jay was getting even more pissed off. You were supposed to be home for midnight. He had forgotten where Sadie lived and was trolling around the streets trying to find the party.
Will was working and was on the look out for any underagers coming in needing their stomachs pumped. But you never arrived which he was very thankful for.
You finally answered your phone with slurrs that Jay couldn’t understand, but he managed to locate you with find my iPhone. He arrived noticing the lack of parents around as there were teenagers passed out all over the place. He could hear you laughing from the kitchen hanging on to Max’s arm which enraged him even more. Max was no where near good enough for his little sister, everyone knew it, except you. Which is why you always kept it on the down low when he was back in your life. This had been a three year saga of Max getting back together with you then either cheating on you or dumping you for no reason. Causing your to be heart broken.
“(y/n) get your stuff, we’re going home,” Jay said through clenched teeth, eyeing up Max who instantly went pale at the sight of Jay.
“Jay! What are you doing here?” You squealed trying to balance yourself to make your way to your brother, nearly falling flat on your face only to be caught by a very pissed off Jay.
“Let’s go,” he said sternly grabbing your bag and holding on to you so you didn’t fall completely.
He couldn’t fathom how angry he was at seeing his sister so out of her mind. The sights he’d seen on the job raced through his head fearing that anything could have happened to you. And you’d have no idea due to how drunk you were. Never mind the underage drinking. Although, he wasn’t so angry about that as he had done it plenty of times.
He got you in the back of his truck and seat belted you in, whilst you spoke rubbish to him about how great Max was causing him to sigh and roll his eyes.
Gripping the steering wheel tightly he drove off knowing that it was going to be a long night. By the time he drove round the corner you had fallen asleep in the back of the truck. Never waking at the sound of Jays phone ringing.
“Did you find her?” It was Will.
“Yeah, she’s completely drunk. She was hanging around Max again.” Jay said knowing his older brother would go off his head.
“I bet he encouraged her to drink, when will he just piss off out of her life?,” Will spoke with a slight hint of desperation.
“Fuck knows, but I’m going to kill her once she sobers up,” Jay laughed, knowing you would be full of regret tomorrow.
Will laughed, “I’ll help you. Remember and put her in the sleeping position so she doesn’t choke on her own sick.” He said fearing the worst.
“I will. I’ll probably sleep on the sofa with the door open so I can hear her,” he sighed.
“Good plan. Anyways, I better go. I’ll be round tomorrow and I’m going to enjoy winding her up.”
“Oh I can’t wait. See you later Will.” With that, you two had arrived at the apartment woth you still sound asleep.
Jay figured he’d be aswell to carry you up knowing that it would take him twice as long for you to walk. As he cradled you in his arms he thought back to when he used to do this when you were twelve and would fall asleep on the sofa waiting up for him to come home. When his only worry about you was making sure he fed and watered you. He saw your mom in you, your smile, your eyes, everything about you was just a reminder of mom. He also knew that she’d be going off her head at the state you had gotten yourself into. But then would take care of you tomorrow, as she followed that pattern with Jay and Will.
He managed to get you safely to you room where he placed you on your bed. Taking your vans off and throwing your blanket over you. He placed a bucket beside you and left a glass of water on your bed side cabinet. You, blissfully unaware are what was going on.
He did as he said, and slept on the sofa woth the doors open so he could you if you were throwing up. Which you did. Many times. Every time, Jay was right beside you holding your hair. He knew he’d get his reward in heaven.
The next morning you strolled through in last nights clothes, make up smeared on your face feeling very sorry for yourself. Jay had his back to you unaware that you had woken up.
You took a couple of steps towards him and hugged him from behind, “I’m sorry,” you whispered.
He turned around and hugged you back, not saying a word.
“Will is gonna kick your ass you know that right?” He laughed causing you to wince at the noise.
“Great.” You replied dryly still holding on to your big brother.
“So many regrets Jay, so many regrets,”
“Oh I know.” He joked loooking very smug at you which knew was the least you deserved after the flashbacks were beginning to come back to you.
You knew that the next week was going to be hell. And that you’d definitely be grounded. Worth it though.

Jay Halstead #6

“Hey man, is everything okay with (y/n)?” Kim asked your older brother.
“Yeah why wouldn’t it be?” Be quizzed back very confused.
“I dunno, she just seems off. Might be nothing though,” she replied smiling hoping to not have freaked Jay out. But she was right, you had been acting weird. And for good reason.
- Two weeks ago -
You had been closing up Molly’s for Hermann. He offered you a job last year to help you out as the shifts were mostly night time allowing you to attend college during the day. The money was pretty good too and the tips were decent as well. But tonight the vibe was off. There were a couple of guys that had been giving you some hassle throughout the night. The usual shit banter that you could only handle for so long. Your replies had become more and more blunt as the night went on. But you never anticipated what would have happened next. Once you had closed up you headed to your car which was parked around the corner. You done this for two reasons, one there was no parking charges and two, you didn’t want drunk people stumbling out and bashing your car.
You couldn’t shake the feeling in your gut. Something didn’t sit right as your walked across the road to your car. You tried to get your phone but your arm was grabbed by what you presumed a man.
“Now sweetie, are you going to change your attitude?” The bitter cold voice spoke in your ear sending shivers down your spine.
“I suggest you get your hands off of me.” You bit back trying to free your hand from the man. You recognised his voice instantly.
“Now now, where would the fun be in that? I think you need a lesson in manners,” he laughed as he pushed your hair out your face. Everything inside was telling you scream and fight. You had heard enough from your brothers about how to make a scene but being in this position was completely different.
You froze for a second before you took a deep breath and screamed. You started fighting back but he just got stronger and used his power against you. But you didn’t go down without a fight, you fought the whole way through fearing for your life. Your hands were reaching out for something to hit him with. That was when your hand came across a broken bottle. You grabbed it and stuck it into his side giving you enough time to get away and grab your things before running to your car. He tried to block your car but you just kept your foot down.
You headed straight for Lakeshore. There was no way in hell you were going to Chicago Med. Both your brothers had talked enough about how victims wait too long before going to the hospital to get a rape kit done.
And that’s what you did. You gave all the details and got all the necessary tests done. You spoke to an officer and gave a statement and she gathered all the evidence. You made her swear not to breathe a word of this to Jay or the intelligence unit. Which thankfully she promised.
Now all you had to do was to get through this.
You tried to be as normal as possible. But every ounce of your being wanted to crumble. The police had no luck in finding him, which you weren’t surprised at. But trying to move past this was killing you. You knew your brothers would want to help, but you couldn’t handle the pity looks that they’d give you. You didn’t want to be a victim. You were a survivor. You told yourself this everyday. You survived. And you were going to keep on surviving.
But unfortunately still living with your brother who was a detective and being pretty tight with his team at work, meant your act had to be pretty spot on. But as time went on cracks were beginning to show.
Everyone could see it. But no one knew what exactly was going on.
Jay had invited you for tea before your shift at Molly’s so you were meeting him at the precinct. You headed up to the unit as normal and had your usual welcome.
“Hey sis, won’t be long,” Jay shouted as he headed back to his desk.
“No problem,” you went to reply but we’re caught off guard with the photo of your rapist hung up on the board with many other faces.
“Everything okay?” Kim asked, bringing your attention back to reality.
You cleared your throat, “eh yeah, sorry. I’ll uh, I’ll head to the break room.” You took one last look at the bastard and walked to the room.
Everyone looked at each other with questioning looks. But quickly got back to work.
There was a knock on the door which caught you off guard. It was Hailey.
“Hey, (y/n), everything okay?” She asked, coming to sit beside you.
You swiftly wiped a tear, “I’m all good,” you smiled hoping she’d drop it.
“If there is anything, which I’m pretty sure there is, I’m always here,” she said softly spoke giving you a small smile.
“I’m good,” you smiled back.
- the next day -
Exhausted didn’t even cut it. You hadn’t been sleeping which was beginning to show.
You were sat on the sofa with the tv playing but you weren’t paying attention when you heard Jay on the phone. You could roughly hear something about the offender being the ring leader of a sex abuse scandal and there were reports but girls wanting to keep their names out of it. That’s when your stomach sank. You were one of those girls. Guilt washed over you over the fact that you could be holding back vital evidence that could nail him. But there was just one thing stopping you. Jay. You couldn’t face the look he’d give you and you also didn’t want him going off on one and killing him. Because that’s exactly what his gut reaction would be to do.
You decided to head out and get some fresh air. But that soon turned out to be a bad idea. Because in the park sitting on a bench was him. He was sat watching young moms with their kids which made your blood boil. You instantly saw red. All common sense went out of your head and you headed straight for him. You sat down beside him and turned angrily.
“They’re going to get you, you sick fuck.” You spat at him.
“Now, come on. Do you need another lesson in manners?” He sneered at you, looking you up and down instantly making your skin crawl.
“Go fuck yourself,” you went to stand up but once again he grabbed your wrist. You immediately yanked it away and pushed in back into the bench.
“Don’t you ever fucking touch me again,” you shouted at him, you could feel the tears beginning to build up but you suppressed them. Not wanting him to see how he’d got to you.
But whilst all this was going on, you had no idea that the intelligence team were doing surveillance on him. They had managed to put a chip in his phone to allow the team to listen in to what he was up too, so they heard everything. Jays stomach flipped once he realised that the son of a bitch had touched his sister. Hailey instantly grabbed a hold of him and told him to calm down. Knowing exactly what his gut reaction would be.
“You fully deserved what I did to you sweetie. That’s what you get or being so rude,” he spoke, with a disgusting smile on his face.
“How does your head even comprehend that being inappropriate to someone when they’re working and not getting the reaction you wanted back leads to rape?” You spat back.
Without you even knowing you were giving the team the intel that they needed to arrest this son of a bitch.
“Oh honey, this is what I do. I give lessons to rude little bitches who think they’re entitled to turn down my attention. Most of the time, when they see me again I get no attitude but you, you’re something else,” you saw a darkness form in his eyes and your gut was telling you to run. So you did. But to your dismay he ran after you.
This time he wasn’t ever getting near you because the whole team were coming after you both. You heard the shouts of “Chicago PD,” before you tripped over a branch. When you felt the hands on your arms to pull you up you started kicking and screaming.
“(y/n)! It’s me, it’s Jay. You’re safe” the words instantly calmed you down and you threw yourself into his arms. Immediately breaking down in his arms as he hugged you tight. You held on tight and sobbed into his chest.
Whilst the rest of team got him in the squad car and tidied up the scene you eventually calmed down. You walked to Jays truck in silence with his arm over your shoulder.
You guys were half way along to the district when Jay cleared his throat, “we’ll need to get a statement from you (y/n),”
You just nodded.
Before you got out the car you took a hold of Jays hand, surprising him.
“Please Jay, please don’t look at me like I’m some victim okay? I fought. I fought fucking hard. But he was just too strong. I don’t want the rest of the guys to look at me like that or treat me any different. I’m still me.” You pleaded.
Jay tightened the grip on your hand, “(y/n), you’re the strongest person I know. To go up to him after he did what he did and basically closed the case. You’re not a victim. You’re a badass.” He choked on the last bit, you could see him holding back his tears.
You gave your statement and headed out with Jay.
“You’re dealing with it a lot better than I thought” you said as you got in the car.
“Is that why you didn’t tell me?” He asked looking a little lost.
You took a deep breath, “This was my thing to deal with Jay. I didn’t know how to deal with it. The last thing I wanted was everyone looking at me like I was a victim or you ending up in prison for committing murder. I did everything you had said before. I went to the hospital and I reported it. I just made sure that they wouldn’t say anything to you.” You gave him a sheepish smile.
“I see you avoided chicago med,”
“Oh yes,” you laughed.
“Shall we pick up takeaway and have a movie night? See if Will is free?” He asked as he started the car.
“You always know how to cheer me up,” you reached over and gave him a hug.
No matter what, and no matter how old you guys were, you always knew that your brothers will always have your back. And you’d always have theirs.

Jay Halstead #7
Tumblr media
You’d think you would know how to stand up for yourself after growing up with two strong, very opinionated brothers. But here you were purposely waiting for Rebecca Taylor to get off the bus before you so she couldn’t ridicule you in front of everyone.
God you hated being a teenager. Highschool had been horrid since your first day and it was all thanks to Rebecca. You slipped at lunch time on the floor, somehow you managed to save yourself before you fell and that was it. She had found her target. She was the complete opposite of you. Short, loud and bubbly, thinish, blonde hair and very popular. You were abnormally tall, quiet, brown hair and not very popular. But you had some real good friends. Which was all that mattered to you. But somehow she managed to make every day at school a living hell for you.
Did you tell your brothers? Nope. Why would you? It was embarrassing. It didn’t help that you and Rebecca shared the same birthday, which immediately she took that as competition to throw the biggest birthday bashes and invite everyone. Well, except you of course. However, your friends were always loyal and you celebrated in a more quiet fashion, which you were happy with.
This was until it was coming up for your 16th birthday and your brothers wanted to do something special for you, despite your protests. Luckily enough you managed to wear them down and you had agreed on letting them take you for dinner and a movie. Being the centre of anyone’s attention made you want to disappear. However, Rebecca had been going the extra mile on her bullying tactics as she wasn’t getting the rise from you she so desperately craved. That was until she mentioned your parents.
It was in the middle of lunch in the cafeteria and she came over to your table where you were sat reading. Going on and on about her big party and when she was getting no reaction she made a joke about your parents dying which ignited a whole new anger you had never felt for her before. You slammed your book down on the table and punched her right in the face. Her nose instantly started bleeding as did your knuckles from punching so hard.
Regret and guilt flushed through your body instantly making your face go beetroot. You were instantly hauled into the principles office to no ones surprise. After an hours worth of interrogation and apologising you’re were realeased and told to cool down at home. However you were supposed to be meeting Jay at the district so you headed along there.
Although you only had your brothers to call family, you actually had a rather large extended family. The intelligence unit and everyone at med all saw you as an extension of their family, meaning they also knew instantly if there was something wrong. So when you showed up early looking sheepish you weren’t surprised when Adam began to question you.
“Hey kiddo, everything alright?” He asked, already knowing that you wouldn’t give him a straight answer.
You played with the end of your jumper sleeve pulling it over your bruised hand, “all good Adam, I’m guessing Jay is out on a case?” Quickly trying to change the subject.
He looked between your face and your hand but didn’t say anything about it, “eh yeah, don’t think he’ll be long.”
You nodded and headed for the sofa in the break room thankful that Adam hadn’t asked too many questions. The peace was shattered when your phone buzzed. Your stomach flipped when you saw the message.
“Life has just gotten a whole lot harder for you Halstead. Today was your final mistake.”
You knew exactly who it was from. Rebecca.
Tears formed in your green eyes and you begged them not to spill onto your face.
“Hey, short stuff, you-“ Kevin Walker in immediately noticing the tears and rushed to sit beside you. “Everything alright?” He asked softly.
You nodded your head desperately trying to contain the tears.
“I’m okay Kevin.” You stated before rushing off to the bathroom to cry in peace.
“Dude, did (y/n) seem upset when she came in?” Kevin asked Adam.
“Yeah man, she was acting real sheepish but wouldn’t say anything.”
They continued their conversation until Jay walked in and looked at them suspiciously.
“What?” He asked bluntly.
“I think there’s something going on with (y/n), she came in all sad and quiet. I noticed her hand was all bruised and she ran to the bathroom in a flood of tears.” Adam explained making Jay instantly worried.
He headed off to find you knowing that bringing to you to explain in front of everyone was your worst nightmare.
When Jay opened the bathroom door he could hear you crying. He could also see that you were sat in the bathroom floor hugging yourself in the bathroom stall. He sat down on the other side of the door.
“This is very unhygienic” he said after a couple of minutes, breaking the silence.
“Well get off the floor then” you stated back.
“Wanna tell me what’s up?”
“Not really,”
“You gonna do it anyway?”
“Maybe”
This went on for a while until Jay got it it of you. He instantly went into protective mode and got the team to track the text, sending Adam and Kevin to go give Rebecca and her parents a serious talking too.
It wasn’t until you were sat at home in the sofa with both of your brothers that you heard from Adam and Kev. They phoned to let you know that Rebecca will not be interfering with you again as her parents went ballistic.
“You know kid, I could have shown you how to punch,” Will said causing Jay to shriek with laughter.
“Yeah whatever Will and I could have showed her how to perform trauma surgery” he laughed back making you smirk.
“I can punch” Will stated looking hurt at Jays reaction.
“Yeah, way above your weight,” you joined in earning a mean look off of Will.
“You guys are so horrible to me” Will laughed, faking his heart being sore.
No matter what or what was set against you, you knew you always had your brothers to rely on.
