Shae slid into the back seat of the black SUV that was awaiting her arrival at the airport. As soon as the driver closed the door, she turned to the man who’d been waiting for her, “Hey, Urban.”
“Hey, sis,” He pulled her into a quick hug before letting go and allowing her to put on her seatbelt, “How are you feeling?”
“Nervous.” She absentmindedly twirled one of her braids around her finger, “I think I’d feel better if Jack had decided he wanted me here instead of both our PR teams pushing for me to join since we’re media darlings right now.”
“If it makes you feel any better,” Urban gently squeezed her hand, “he hadn’t mentioned a decision one way or the other and he didn’t seem upset that the choice was taken out of his hands.”
She gave him a rueful smile, “It doesn’t but thank you for trying.”
“He's finishing up his last interview. He might beat us back to the hotel, but if he doesn't, he's given me his spare room key to give to you.”
“Great,” Shae responded as she laid her head on his shoulder.
“Take a few deep breaths, Shae.” Urban tilted his head to rest on top of hers,  “I’m not saying you two don’t have issues to talk and work through, but it seems like he’s in a better space than the last time you saw him.”
“I couldn’t tell by his one-word answers to texts and his consistent decision to facetime me a few minutes before Neelam needs to pull him away for something." Urban sighed at her biting statement and began wringing her hands together, "I know. Uncalled for. I’m just…really nervous and that feels weird. One of the biggest reasons I knew Jack was different was that he felt like home from the moment we met. I don't like feeling uneasy about if he wants me around.”
“That’s understandable, but you do realize you being flippant and sarcastic are really no different than Jack shutting down and refusing to engage with you, right?”
Shae reached up and tousled his hair, “Who knew behind all that hair and weed, there was such a smart man.”
Urban laughed, “Shae, we’ve known each other for almost 4 years now. You shouldn’t be surprised by my brilliance.”
Shae joined in his laughter and then turned her attention toward the passing scenery.
   *****************
A quick text from Jack to Urban as they pulled up to the hotel confirmed that Jack was back in his room. The duo quickly exited the car and were escorted into the hotel amongst flashes of lights from the paparazzi. The concierge made quick work of placing Shae’s luggage on a trolley. He accompanied both Urban and Shae as they entered the elevator.
Once they reached their floor, the pair exited, and the concierge followed behind them. Urban stopped in front of a door and turned to Shae.
“This is me. You and Jack are two more doors down,” he motioned further down the hall, “Here’s the key to your room.”
“Thanks.”
He pulled her into a hug and lowly whispered so he wasn’t overheard, “Just remember. You two love each other. That matters no matter what the outcome is.”
She tightly squeezed him as she replied, “Love you, Urby.”
“Love you too, Shae Shae.”
After Urban entered his room, Shae continued her trek to the room she'd be sharing with Jack. She swiftly knocked on the door to warn him that she was about to enter before she used the key. She entered the room to find Jack sitting on the couch, talking on the phone. He nodded towards her in acknowledgment as he continued his conversation.
Shae quietly instructed the concierge to leave her bags by the door. He transferred them off the trolley and she slid him a tip before softly closing the door behind him.
As soon as the door closed, a wave of uncertainty washed over Shae, who elected to awkwardly stand by the door as Jack wrapped up his phone call.
“Okay. Got it,” Jack nodded even though Neelam couldn’t see him on the other end of the line, “We’ll be downstairs by 6 since the reservation is at 7. Bye.”
He tossed the phone on the couch and stood to greet Shae. He resisted the urge to move to hug her by sticking his hands in his pocket as he shifted his weight from foot to foot.
“Hey,” Shae delicately greeted.
“Hey.”
Awkward silence wrapped around the pair as they waited for the other person to speak.
“Should w—"  “Did yo—"
Both stopped and stared at one another. Jack motioned for Shae to speak first.
Shae cleared her throat, “I was going to ask if maybe one of us should take a picture and post?”
“Yeah.” Jack ran a hand over his beard, “Uh, you're usually the more lovely dovey one on socials so maybe you post and I reshare?”
“That sounds good.” She reached to pull her phone out of her back pocket. As she unlocked her phone, she asked, “Umm...can I see your Kentucky chain?”
Jack flashed her a grin as he headed toward the bedroom to open the in-suite safe, "Suuuuure.”
She couldn’t help the grin that appeared on her face. She knew by his tone that he was up to no good, “And I don't mean the big one, Jackman Thomas.”
His bark of laughter rang out through the suite as she moved to sit down on the couch. A few minutes later, Jack walked back in and handed her the gold chain with KY initials.
“You know me way too well.”
She laughed as she took the chain from him, “I still maintain that thing is like 3 sizes too big.”
“It’s not,” he defended. “I actually could have gone a couple sizes bigger, but I didn’t want the people to think I was overcompensating for something.”
“Kentucky doesn't even have an attractive state shape!” Shae teased.
He stuck his tongue out at her, “And Tennessee does?”
“Yes, yes it does.”
He shook his head, “Ridiculous.”
She continued laughing as she pulled up Instagram on her phone to shoot a boomerang of her lightly swinging the chain back and forth with Jack’s upper body—sans face—in the background.
"First thing I grab after I touch down other than his di--🤫🤣
Glad to be reunited with my man and rocking his chain. ❤"
She turned around her phone to get his approval and was met with a loud guffaw.
“I can’t wait for all the responses saying I’ve corrupted you,” he jested as he rubbed his hands together.
Shae hit post as she replied, “I meaaaan, I was all sweet and innocent until this boy from Kentucky accidentally grabbed my ass at a party, thinking it was someone he actually knew.”
“Sweet and innocent?” Jack crossed his arms and rose an eyebrow at her, “Pretty sure a sweet and innocent person’s response to an accidental ass grab wouldn’t have been to tell me that it was only fair that you got to return the favor.”
Shae started to defend herself, but he waved her off, “Let the record reflect that I merely smacked your ass. You squeezed when it was your turn.”
“Why waste the opportunity on a smack instead of savoring the moment,” Shae questioned as she threw her hands up in the air.
Both stared at each other and burst out laughing. Shae tried to hand Jack's chain back to him, but he rebuffed her offering.
“Keep it. Even if you hadn't posted it, fans would have questioned why you weren't wearing it since you always do when you're with me.”
Shae’s eyes immediately fell to the floor, avoiding Jack’s gaze, “Right and we need to pretend to be as normal as possible.”
“It’s not just that, okay?” Jack instantaneously recognized the shift in her demeanor and gently reached out to guide her eyes back to his, “We don’t really talk about our relationship to the public a lot. I like when you wear it because it lets the whole world know that you’re mine without me having to say it.”
She gave him a soft smile and offered the chain up to him again, “Put in on me?”
“Of course,” Jack grabbed it from her, and she shifted on the couch so her back was facing him and moved her braids over her shoulder. He fastened the chain and kissed the nape of her neck after he dropped it against her skin, “There.”
She leaned back against him and he wrapped an arm around her. She nuzzled his arm and gently broached, “I'm sorry you didn't get as much time to think things over as you wanted.”
“Don't be.” He kissed the top of her head, “I was overthinking it. I honestly think I wouldn't have had a solid answer until the original day you were supposed to fly out and that would have depended on what mood I was in when I woke up.”
Shae squeezed his arm, “Sometimes the only way out is through.”
“Yeah.”
Silence stretched between them like a warm blanket, and each tried to hang onto the moment as long as possible, hoping to avoid a return to the awkwardness that had first surrounded them.
Jack eyed the time on his watch and, begrudgingly, broke through the stillness.
“We should probably get ready for dinner.”
She squeezed his arm, “I wish we didn't have to. I hate pap walks.”
“I don't know why. You always end up looking like you belong on a runway.” Jack chuckled, “Me, on the other hand...”
Shae giggled, “You make me look better.”
“I don't think that's how it works.”
“It does!” Shea argued. “You're a giant so I look smaller. You're also pale as fuck so it makes my skin pop more than normal under the flashes.”
“So basically, I'm a hideous ogre and should be grateful you've settled for me?” Jack deadpanned. “Got it.”
“Baby, no. That’s not what I meant,” she quickly assured him as she turned around to look at him. She found him with a smirk on his face, trying to hold back a laugh. She lightly smacked his arm, “Jackman! That’s not funny. I was about to feel so bad.”
Jack couldn’t respond because he was laughing so hard that he was wheezing. She eventually joined in. Neither one could contain themselves. When one would calm down, they would look at one another and break into another fit of laughter.
Eventually, both of their laughter subsided. Jack intertwined his hand with hers, "I missed you."
"I missed you too," she offered up with a soft smile before she asked, "So…who's showering first?"
“Oh…um…” Jack detangled his hand from Shae’s, “Urban didn’t tell you?”
Shea tilted her head at the hesitance in his tone, “Since I don’t know what you’re talking about, I’m going to have to assume the answer is no.”
“Uh…” Jack scratched the back of his neck. “I…uh…I had it arranged so that every hotel we’re staying in while you're here is connected suites. That way we don't have to worry about anyone catching that we're in separate rooms and we can both have our own spaces.”
“Or more accurately so we have our own beds because you can’t stand the thought of sleeping next to each other,” Shea stood and crossed her arms.
Jack shook his head as he stood up, “Don’t put words in my mouth. We’ve never had problems in the bedroom. It’s the other rooms we can’t seem to handle.”
“Right,” Shae gritted out through clenched teeth.
“Shae, I sh—"
“It’s fine, Jackman.” She turned to survey the rest of the room and found a door next to the kitchen area. She nodded toward it, “I’m assuming the door on the other side is already open?”
“Yeah,” he nodded. He began to move toward the main door, “Here, let me get your bags a-“
She blocked his path, “Don’t bother. I’ve got it.”
He backed off and watched as she grabbed her backpack and stiffly wheeled both of her suitcases to the adjoining room door. She yanked it open and pushed the cases through. She walked into the room and turned to address Jack, “I heard you say we needed to be in the lobby at 6?”
“Yeah.”
“I’ll be back on this side at 5:50.”
Before he could respond, Shae slammed the door.
As he heard the lock engage, a frustrated sigh fell from his lips.
   *****************
An hour and a half later, Jack found himself seated in the kitchen area, waiting for Shea to make her entrance. He stood when he heard the door open.
He looked Shae up and down, taking in her sage green dress and the gold jewelry she’d chosen to compliment his chain.
He offered up an earnest, “You look nice.”
Shae adjusted her purse strap on her shoulder and returned a curt, “Thank you.”
He stuck his hands in his jeans pockets, "Shae, maybe we should cancel. We could order in.”
She smoothed her hands over her dress, “The whole point of me being here is for both of us to soak up as much of the good publicity rightly owed to us. That doesn’t happen if we’re not visible.”
Jack visually bristled and spat, “I thought the point of you being here was for us to try to figure things out.”
“I thought that too until I walked into you arraigning a completely different suite for me to stay in.” She shook her head as a hollow laugh slipped out, “The truly hilarious part is that this could have actually been a nice gesture. If you had asked me if I wanted that or even just, did it for the first few hotels just to make sure I didn’t feel pressured to be in your presence.”
She looked away from him, “I don't know why I'm surprised. This is ridiculously on-brand for you.”
“You know what?” Jack questioned as he felt the tension in his shoulders rise. “You’re right. It is on brand for me to try to do something decent and for you to completely dismiss it because I didn’t do it the way you thought it should be done.”
Her head whipped back around to meet his gaze, “Excuse me?”
“You heard exactly what I said,” he scoffed, “but I’ll gladly repeat it for you.”
“That’s an interesting perspective, honey. Though I think it’s more accurate to say that you do what’s best for you,” Shae reached out and poked his chest with her finger. “and then try to justify that it was actually what was best for me or—even better—for us.”
Jack opened his mouth to argue but his phone rang, cutting off his rebuttal.
“That’s probably Neelam wondering where we are.”
“I can always count on someone on your team to bail you out of having hard conversations,” Shae sneered.
“As opposed to you just deciding you just deciding in the middle of a conversation that you don’t like how it’s going and deciding you’re done having it?” Jack snapped back.
“That’s not fair!”
He quirked an eyebrow at her, “It isn’t?”
Shae grimaced at the flippantness of his tone, “You can’t pretend that how I acted after seeing those pictures is how I usually handle our issues.”
“Oh, baby, I assure you I’m not pretending anything.”
“You are such a da-“
A knock on the door cut Shae off.
The pair stared each other down as they breathed in sync.
“We both know that’s Neelam.” He looked her up and down, contempt saturating his gaze,  “Do you want to finish that sentence before I open the door?”
She pushed past him and stormed over to the door, swinging it open wide, "Sorry about that. We lost track of time arguing. What else is new, right?”
Neelam’s eyes bounced between the two as she took in Shae’s stiff smile and Jack leaning against the small kitchen table, looking as if he was ready to split the thing in half.
She slowly maneuvered her way past Shea and into the room, closing the door behind her before she gently broached, “Do I need to push back the reservation?”
“Nope, Shae answered, popping the ‘p.’ “I’m an award-winning actress and he’s…decent. We can fake it.”
“Nice, sweetheart, really fucking nice,” Jack chided.
She shrugged as she turned to him with a big smile, “Just calling it as I see it, darling.”
Neelam settles her gaze on the rapper, “Jack?”
“No need to push it back.” He joined Shae by the door and grabbed her hand, “The sooner we get this over with, the better.”
“Look at that,” she mocked, “Something the both of us can agree on.”
He rolled his eyes before he looked down at her, “Progress.”
Neelam cleared her throat, and both sets of eyes turned to her, “You two know we can cancel tonight, right? Paps got Shae coming into the hotel and she posted to her stories, so everyone knows the two of you are together. Jack’s show tomorrow will give plenty of opportunities for pictures of you two together.”
“We’re fine, Neelam.” He peered back down at Shae, “After all, the whole point of her being here is for people to see us, right?”
“Right,” the actress replied as she smiled brightly at Neelam even though it didn’t quite meet her eyes, “Let’s see how good our boy is at improv.”
Neelam hesitantly trailed behind the couple after they exited the room. As they meandered toward the elevators, she sent up a quick prayer, hoping that the evening didn’t end in a media disaster.

This is Part 2, following Part 1: Little Secret
Pairing: Jack Harlow x Rockstar!OFC
Warning: Smut
Tumblr media
                                   *************************
Marley strummed her guitar as she watched the number of people tuning into her live rapidly grow, looking for one username in particular.
“What’s up, y’all? We’re currently traveling to our next tour stop, but everyone is either napping or watching tv in their bunks. Just thought I’d hop on live and play some songs. It’s been a while since I’ve gotten on here just to hang with y’all,” she explained. “Drop some song requests in the chat. They can be Letters from Marley songs or songs you think I might know how to play.”
Marley adjusted her phone as she read the songs people were requesting and saw the username she'd been looking for, "Oh! Also, for those of you who don't follow the band page—which you should go do after this live is over—then you might not know, but we've been writing and recording while finishing our tour for this album cycle. Fingers crossed we can get y'all new music pretty soon after this tour is done."
She picked up the capo from where it sat on the couch beside her and placed it on the third fret of her acoustic guitar as she continued, "As a treat for hanging out with me so late, I'm gonna play y'all a little snippet of a new song we're working through."
"Anyone who's ever thought of someone as a good friend and then found out they weren't, will be able to relate to this one. Its working title is "Same About You." We'll see if it stays that way if it makes the album.
Marley cleared her throat and began playing, a slight smirk adorning her face.
                                    *************************
Having logged into her live with his private Instagram, Jack grimaced as notes began to play, “She can’t be fucking serious right now.”
Urban ran a hand through his hair, “Maybe it won’t be that bad.”
Jack rolled his eyes, “We’ve known her for three years, Urban. You know she’s one of the pettiest people we’ve ever met.”
“Good point.”
Jack’s eyes became transfixed on the screen as Marley closed her eyes and began to softly sing.
Spent time today reminiscing Think I learned a lot about who we are Couldn't diagnose your condition But now I see the signs you left behind
Jack could barely swallow the lump in his throat as she opened her eyes and looked directly into the camera.
Think I lost my nerve like I lost you And the truth remains unheard
He could feel Urban shift on the couch beside him as Marley's voice developed a hard edge as she continued crooning.
No, I'll never feel the same Same about you, same about you No, I'll never feel the same Same about you, same about you
Jack felt his face heat up as the words washed over him. He had to mentally will himself to relax his jaw when he realized how hard he was clenching his teeth.
Some roads you can't come back from When you extract truth from the lie
No, I'll never feel the s—
Taking in his best friend’s tense reaction, Urban reached over and clicked to exit the live.
Jack shoved his hand away, “I was watching that.”
“I highly doubt it gets any better from that point, bro.” Urban handed him the blunt he’d been smoking, “You need this way more than I do right now.”
The rapper shook his head, "No, what I need is for her to get her shit together. She acts as if I lied about something that actually matters. I don't tell her about one song—which she's pissed about for the stupidest of reasons—and suddenly she can't trust me? It's the first time I've ever lied to her about anything. She needs to chill."
“And so do you.” Jack started to speak, but Urban kept going, “You can’t get mad at her for how she feels. The fact is that you did lie to her and she gets to decide how she feels about that. Does it mean that I would react the way she would? No. Do I think she’s overreacting? Absolutely. But you aren’t making this situation any better by acting like she doesn’t get to feel negatively about your deception. She’d probably forgive you if you would actually apologize for your whole 'better to ask for forgiveness than ask for permission' approach and promise never to do it again.”
Jack tossed his phone back and forth between his hands and mulled over what Urban had just said. It didn’t take him long to realize that his best friend was right.
He unlocked his phone with a sigh and hit Neelam’s contact info. When she answered, he asked, “How soon can we clear my schedule of five full days? I have something I need to take care of in person.”
                                   *************************
Ten days later, Jack found himself walking down a hotel hallway behind Marley’s manager, Krista.
He stuck his hands in his pockets as they headed towards Marley’s room, “Thank you so much for helping me out.”
Krista waved him off, “Don't thank me. I'm doing this for her sake. You're good to her and I'd rather she have a friends-with-benefits situation with you than one of these other shady industry dudes.” She stops at a door and turns around to hand him a room key, “If she asks, you used your fame and a whole lotta money to get into her room.”
Jack nodded with a grin, “Noted.”
“She’s in the hotel bar with a few of the other bandmates. I’ll go see if I can subtly encourage her to retire for the evening, so you won’t have to wait too long.”
“Thanks, Krista.”
Jack entered the room and shut the door behind him, placing the key card in his back pocket. He set his bag on the floor next to the couch before flopping down on it. He grabbed the remote and turned on the tv, flipping through channels until he hit ESPN. He figured he could watch the Celtics play until Marley came back to her room.
                                   *************************
About twenty minutes passed before he heard Marley at the door. He switched off the tv and tossed the remote back on the couch. He quickly stood as the door opened and Marley walked through.
She barely glanced his way as she shut the door behind her. She eventually turned toward him with her arms crossed and murmured, “Hey.”
Jack returned her greeting and took in the lack of surprise in her demeanor at his presence, “You knew I was here.”
“I'd asked Riley and Tor to come hang out since I didn't want to be alone,” she began to explain with a shrug. “Krista couldn't come up with a lie fast enough but thanks for using my own team against me.”
He bristled at her response, “Against you? You make it sound like we're enemies. Marley, ca—“
She held up a hand to cut him off, “If we have to have this conversation, I'm going to be comfortable. I've been doing interviews all day. I'm going to change clothes. I'll be back out. “
Marley made her way to her bedroom and closed the door. Jack sat back down on the couch. He leaned back, his head resting on the couch. Marley emerged from her bedroom in biker shorts and a tank top. Jack turned his head to the side to look at her when she sat on the opposite side of the couch.
As Marley curled her legs underneath herself, Jack cleared his throat and said, “I caught your live the other night.”
She scoffed, “I know. You forget I know what your finsta is?”
“No, but there were thousands of people watching. Wasn't sure if you noticed.”
“Well, now you know I saw.” She toyed with one of her braids as she asked, “Is that what you flew all the way here for or is there something else?”
Jack could feel his skin heating up. His eyes met hers as he demanded, “You really don't think I'm a good friend to you? And feel strongly enough about it that you wrote a song to tell thousands of your followers about it?”
“Don't worry, Jack.” Marley flippantly replied. “None of them know it’s about you. I mean that’s the justification you told me about Lil Secret, right?”
He pinched the bridge of his nose and inhaled deeply, holding his breath for a few seconds before exhaling. When he finally responded, he attempted to keep his tone even, “You haven't responded to me in almost two months. Everything I know about what you've got going on comes from your socials or Urban. You don't think that's a little dramatic over a throwaway line in a song?”
“Says the man who cleared his schedule to come chase after me for five days because I hurt his feelings on live?" Surprise leaped across Jack's face and Marley sneered, "Yeah, Krista told me your whole itinerary, not just that you were here.”
Jack set up and rested his head in his hands with his elbows resting on his knees. Uncomfortable silence wrapped around the pair as they both waited for the other person to speak. The minutes seemed to creep by at a glacial pace and it was enough to cause Jack to break first.
“Fine.” The rapper ran a hand over his beard, “You want me to admit the real reason I didn't play the song for you?”
“I'm all ears.”
“When I recorded it, literally all of PG told me they hoped I wasn't super attached to it because there was no way you'd allow it on the album,” he began to explain.
Marley crossed her arms and interjected, “They weren't wrong.”
“No, they weren't,” Jack acquiesced. He looked down at the floor, unable to meet her eyes as he continued, “Which pissed me off because I realized that if you asked, I wouldn't hesitate to pull it.”
“It’s a bad thing that you would consider my feelings?” Marley questioned as she sat up a little straighter.
“It’s not that.” A frustrated sigh fell from his lips as he wrestled with himself on how best to phrase what he was trying to say. He glanced over at the singer, “If I had written that song about any other girl, I wouldn't have hesitated to play it for them because whether they liked it or not, I'd be putting it on the album. I'd just buy them something stupid expensive and they'd get over it.”
“You realize that says more about you than the type of women you recruit for your harem,” Marley deadpanned.
“Marley,” Jack scolded, and she motioned for him to continue. Marley had to strain to hear him as he looked back down at the ground and murmured, “I really hate the fact that you have so much influence over me that I'd yank a song just to please you and that everyone who knows about us knows it.”
Marley's breath caught in her throat. Over the three years, they'd known one another, she could count on one hand the number of times he’d gotten this vulnerable with her.
She shifted closer to him and reached out a hand to touch his shoulder, “Jack, wh—”
“Don’t,” he shook her hand off his shoulder he admonished through gritted teeth, “Just…don't. I know that's a conversation we're going to have to have, but I'd really appreciate it if we could just hold off on it for a little bit."
Marley remained silent as she waited for some of the tension to leave Jack’s body. After a few moments of deep breathing, his shoulders relaxed, and Marley took that as a sign that her next move wouldn’t be rejected.
She stood and maneuvered so she was in front of him. When he looked up at her, she gently pushed his shoulders until he was leaning back against the couch. She slowly moved to straddle his lap.
She gently caressed his face as she gently explained, “The reason it hurt my feelings so much is that you've been such a good friend to me and you lying to me and being dismissive of my feelings was so out of character.” She wound one of his curls around her finger and sighed, “I know you pride yourself on how loyal you are to your friends so I wrote something that I knew would hurt you because I wanted you to feel how I felt.”
“Congratulations,” He reached up to disentangle her fingers from his hair and kissed the palm of her hand, “You succeeded.”
“Weeeeeeell,” she drew out, “as a certain someone often likes to remind me when I start to doubt it...I'm very good at what I do.”
Feeling the tension start to dissipate from the room, Jack gave her a small grin, “Sounds like a very wise man.”
“Eh, he can be,” Marley agreed with a shrug. “But I'd never tell him that. His ego is already off the charts. I'd hate to give him more ammunition.”
He laughed as he ran his hands up her back and nudged her forward. She leaned her forehead against his, both closing their eyes.
Marley could feel his breath fan over her face as he whispered, “Am I forgiven Marley girl?”
She leaned back and he opened his eyes. She met his gaze as she answered, tone absent of any of the edge she'd begun the conversation with, "I don't think I actually got an apology, Jack.”
Jack cupped her face in his hands as he responded in earnest, “I’m sorry that I lied to you instead of talking to you about it like an adult.
“Apology accepted.”
Marley reached up to grab his hands and moved them, so they were situated on her waist. She wrapped her arms around Jack’s neck and bent down to kiss him.
As soon as her lips brushed against his, Jack moved to deepen the kiss, running his tongue along her lips and she opened to allow him access. Marley moaned into his mouth as Jack’s large hands held a tight grip on her hips and moved her so she was grinding down against his erection.
Jack broke the kiss and kissed a trail of opened-mouth kisses along her jaw until he was able to lowly growl in her ear, "Can't tell you how much I missed that sound.”
His words went straight to her core and she panted out, “Bedroom. Now.”
“Nah,” Jack shook his head and ran a hand along her spine, “*It’s been long enough. I'm fucking you right here.”
“Jack...”
“Baby, clearly, you’ve forgotten who runs this show. You can either take these off yourself,” he slapped her ass and then popped the band of her biker shorts, “or I'm ripping them. Either way, we're not leaving this couch until you can’t walk.”
She knew from experience that he wasn’t joking and quickly scrambled off his lap to pull off her shorts while he pushed down his sweatpants. She moved to reclaim her spot in his lap, but Jack guided her to lay back down on the couch as he settled in between her thighs. His hands ghosted across her skin to grab her hips, leaving a trail of goosebumps in their wake.
Jack’s thumbs moved along her brown skin in slow, small circles. His eyes met Marley and he grinned, “Tell me, Marley girl, all that time you spent ignoring me, was I still on your mind when you were all alone in your bed by yourself.”
She shuddered as his voice washed over her, “Yes. Thought about you so much.”
He nodded and leaned over her, resting one hand beside her head as the other pushed her legs further apart, "Mmm. And while you were thinking of me, what exactly were you thinking of?”
The singer reached down and grabbed Jack’s hand that was resting along her thigh and guided him to where she wanted his touch the most.
“I thought about you he-…” Marley stopped short as Jack began to circle her clit with his fingers.
He heard her breath hitch and watched her eyes flutter closed. He lowly chuckled, “You were saying?”
She attempted to lobby back a retort to his teasing, but Jack slid his fingers through her lips and plunged two inside of her causing a strangled moan to roll off her tongue as she arched her back.
Jack leaned forward and captured her lips in a heated kiss as he began to pump his fingers inside of her at a steady pace. Marley tightly gripped Jack’s shirt as she could feel a familiar coil building in the pit of her stomach. She wrenched her lips away from his as a steady chorus of whines came rapidly tumbling out of her mouth.
The way Marley turned her head placed Jack’s lips right near her ear and, knowing she was close based off of how she was clenching around his fingers, he murmured in her ear, “When you touched yourself, Marley girl, and pretended it was me, whose name was on those pretty lips of yours as you came?”
“Yo…yo…yours, baby,” she hissed.
“Show me,” he demanded as he stilled his fingers, “Show me how you got off without me.”
Marley didn't miss a beat and began rolling her hips against his fingers. She pushed up her tank top and began to massage one of her breasts. Jack bent his head down to take the other breast into his mouth, nipping and sucking just hard enough that he knew there'd still be a mark in the morning.
Her gyrations sped up and she felt the tension begin to build, “I’m so…so close, Jaaaack.”
“Go ahead, Marley girl. Fall apart on my fingers,” he groaned out.
Marley moved one of her hands down to circle her clit as Jack continued to whisper praises in her ear while urging her to be greedy and take exactly what she needed from him. Her eyes slammed shut and she screamed out his name as her orgasm broke.
Through heavy-lidded eyes, she watched as he removed his fingers from inside her and licked them clean. If she hadn’t been trying to recover from her orgasm, Marley would have found the filthy moan, that spilled out as he tasted her on his fingers, embarrassing.
Jack pulls back to take in the sight of the woman lying before him. Her chest was heaving as she tried to catch her breath, her brown skin practically glowing, and her legs still slightly shaking. He maneuvered himself so he was resting on his forearms on either side of her head. He crashes his lips into hers and Marley can’t help the sob that she breathed into his mouth.
He reached in between them and lined himself up at her entrance. He thrust into her, quickly bottoming out. He stilled, giving her time to adjust before he began to pump his hips, setting a hard and deep rhythm.
He buried his head in the crook of his neck and Marley gripped his arms hard enough for her fingernails to leave indentations. As good as she feels gripping him, Jack knows he isn’t going to last too much longer but he is dead set on making sure she comes again before he does.
“I think you’ve got another one in you, yeah?” He bit the crook of her neck before lapping at his with his tongue to soothe the sting. He reached down and wrapped one of her legs around his waist, allowing him to go deeper, “You gonna cum for me again?”
She tried to pant out an answer but felt her mouth run dry as Jack reached in between them and started circling her clit. All it took was a few passes before Marley’s legs began to shake and a stifled whine erupted from her chest. Jack sped up his pace and Marley felt tears prick her eyes as bright lights flashed behind her eyelids and warmth rapidly spread along her body.
The rapper pulled back slightly as he slowed down to a more languid pace. He ran a hand up her body until he placed a hand around her throat, squeezing just hard enough for her to feel its presence but not restrict her airflow.
“Tell me who’s making you feel this good, Marley girl,” he demanded.
Still attempting to recover from her orgasm, a few moments passed without Marley answering and he slapped her thigh
“I asked you a question.” Jack squeezed the hand around her throat to grab her attention, “Answer me, pretty girl. Who is making you feel this good?”
“Y..you, Jack,” she ground out, “Ooonly you.”
Marley grabbed a handful of his shirt and pulled him back down to her, capturing him in a long, slow kiss.
He lunged into her a few more times before he came with a groan that Marley swallowed in another kiss. He stayed on top of her, mindful of resting most of his upper body weight on his forearms instead of her. Marley ran her hands up and down his back as Jack tried to get his breathing under control.
After a few moments, he gave Marley a peck on the lips before he gingerly disentangled himself from her. Marley started to stand, but Jack shook his head at her and motioned for her to stay laying down.
“Be right back,” he told her and kissed the top of her head before he headed toward her bedroom.
Marley felt a small smile work its way across her face as she heard the water running. After several minutes passed, he returned to the living room area of the suite. He scooped Marley up into his arms and carried her to the bath that he'd run for both of them. He helped Marley into the tub before he slid in behind her.
“This just barely fits both of us,” she giggled.
“But it does fit us. Just barely is all we need,” he retorted as he moved her hair over her shoulder and kissed the back of her neck.
Marley leaned back against his chest and melted into his arms as they reached around to envelop him.
“Thank you for clearing your schedule to be here. I know that isn’t an easy thing nowadays,” she stated softly as she intertwined her fingers with his.
“Eh, the way I see it, I’m the one that screwed us out of two weeks in LA by being an idiot and not giving you a real apology so the least I could do is move things around to make it right,” he replied.
She turned her head to look at him, “So…you’re still staying the full five days even though we’re good now?”
“I don’t know,” he shrugged and smirked at her, “I was expecting more of a fight. I might be able to put a few interviews back on the table.”
“Oh really,” Marley rose an amused eyebrow at him, “Then I’m still angry. You’re the worst and you can’t be trusted and the beat wasn’t even that good and that chorus was lackluster and I c-“
He laughed as she rambled and then pulled her into a kiss to shut her up.

Rumors P2
A/N: Hello, hello. Here's part two. I hope y'all enjoy!
Link to Part 1 Link to Part 3
Pairing: Jack Harlow x Actress!OC TW: angst, smut
Tumblr media
As soon as the line picked up, Shae didn’t wait for him to speak, “Jack, I'm so s-“
“I really don't want to hear an apology from you right now,” Jack gruffly interrupted. “My PR team is going to send over a statement to your team for approval and I'll post it this afternoon. You can reshare it or send over a statement for approval.”
Shae winced at how cold he sounded and took a deep breath to try to keep from crying, “Baby, can you please come home so we can talk about this? Or I can come to you?”
“Now you want to talk?” A bitter laugh spilled out of his mouth, “I practically begged you to talk to me and give me a few days to solve this. Or are you forgetting that you haven't answered one phone call or text from me over the past 5 days?”
She sniffled, “I know. I sh-“
His voice cracked as he asserted, “I told you it wasn't me, and you just…”
Shae felt her chest tighten at how hurt he sounded as he trailed off. She waited a few moments to see if he was going to continue and when it became apparent he wasn’t, she finally spoke.
“I know, Jack. I know. You have every right to be angry at me, but I promise I'm going to do everything I can to make it up to you.”
“You honestly think that's possible?”
“I'd like to try,” came her earnest response.
Jack scoffed, “Are you forgetting that you basically told me that you believed I would cheat on you because I've changed and our relationship, apparently, was terrible?”
“That’s not what I said!” Shae exclaimed before taking a moment to even out her tone, “Jackman, there was so much evidence an-“
“Fuck the evidence, Shaela!” he snarled through the phone. “I didn't ask you to blindly believe me. I asked you to give me time before you ended things. After 3 years, you couldn't give me that so what the fuck are we even doing?”
“Jack, I know I screwed up, okay,” she conceded. “And I know you're going to be angry at me for a while and I deserve that. I know I have no right to ask but can you please give me the chance to make this right?”
Jack bit his tongue and kept silent, knowing that everything he wanted to say in response was just going to cut the actress deeply and make things worse.
She let out a weary sigh before she gently broached, “You leave back out on tour in two days. Can you please come home so we can try to salvage them?”
“I think it'd be best if I didn't. I need some space.” His grip on the phone tightened as he admonished, “And before you start, these last 5 days don't count because I spent them going out of my mind trying to figure out how to prove to you that I was innocent.”
As desperately as she wanted him home, she figured it was in her best interest not to argue.
Instead, she asked, “Do you still want me to come out to join you on tour in two weeks?”
He shook his head ruefully even though she couldn’t see him, “You don't even know how much I want to say yes to that.”
She was afraid to ask and barely choked out, “But?”
He sighed, “But I'm not sure. Can I let you know closer to when you're supposed to fly out?”
“Yeah.”
“Okay. I should go. You'll have the statement sent over to you shortly."
“Okay.” She quickly called out before he could hang up, “Wait, Jack.”
Annoyance crept into his voice, “Yeah?”
His tone gave Shae pause but she managed to stammer out, “I...uh...I love you.”
“I'll talk to you later.”
Shae stared down at her phone and let the tears she’d been keeping at bay flow freely.
                           **********************
Urban rose an eyebrow at his best friend, “Damn dude, I only heard your side and that shit sounded painful.”
“What should she have expected? She didn't hesitate to end things between us! I'm not the bad guy,” he reasoned.
2fo chimed in, “Of course, you're not, but that doesn't mean she is either.”
“Please,” Jack leaned back in his chair, “enlighten me as to how she isn’t?”
“Because if the situation were reversed, you wouldn't have believed her either.” Urban crossed his arms, “A fact that you've admitted to at least 4 times over the past few days.”
“You're glossing over the fact that I also said that if she was as adamant as I was that it wasn't her, I would have at least given her time to prove that it wasn't,” he countered.
“Fair enough,” Schloob spoke up. “But you can't act like you two haven't been having issues. You literally told us last time we were on the road and y'all got into it because she had to push back coming out because of reshoots for her movie that every time one of you had to cancel on the other that it made you doubt whether a future and a family was in the cards for you two. So, acting like she's the only one who'd been doubting the relationship isn't fair.”
“How is it that all of you are on her side?”
“We are on your side,” Quiiso interjected. “We all know how much you love her, and we all know you're going to be miserable without her. You're angry and hurt she didn't give you time, which is understandable. All we're saying is that you both had good reason to act and feel the way you did.”
Urban added in, “We just don't want you making permanent decisions you might regret later because you're reacting to the situation instead of doing what's best for you in the long run.”
Jack ran a hand over his face, “Can we change the topic?”
“Sure,” Urban answered, “Would you like to talk about which one of us is going to stop by the house and pack for tour? Or do you plan on going by yourself?”
                           **********************
Shae opened the door, slightly surprised that Jack had chosen to knock instead of just using his key.
She stepped to the side as both Jack and Urban entered the house. She was tempted to crack a joke about it but figured it would only increase the tension that was hanging over all of them like a dark cloud.
Urban pulled her into a hug, "Hey, sis."
She hugged him back tightly, "Hey."
She turned toward Jack, shifting her weight from foot to foot as she gently broached, "If you guys haven't had lunch yet, I could make something while you pack."
"We're good. I don't plan on being here long," Jack answered as he turned to head toward their bedroom.
"He just needs some time, Shae, “Urban tossed an arm over her shoulder and gave it a light squeeze. "He wasn't really angry or upset with you the past few days. He was going stir-crazy trying to figure out how to clear his name so you wouldn't hate him. Once the video dropped, he finally got hit with how it felt for you to not believe him--which no one in our circle blames you for. It looked bad and, to be honest, the only reason we believed him is because we were with him."
She reached up and squeezed his hand, "I know. I'm not mad that he's acting this way. I'm just sad because I don't really know how to fix it."
"All of PG and Neelam and Chris are doing our best to get him in a better headspace. Just keep showing up as much as he'll allow you to, and I think it'll work out."
She nodded and then headed to the bedroom. When she entered, she found Jack sitting on their bed with his head in his hands, suitcase at his feet. She cleared her throat and Jack looked up, eyes shiny from unshed tears.
“Are you okay?”
He blinked a few times to bring her into focus, “You packed my suitcase?”
“Oh...um...yeah. Just the one, though.” Shae wrung her hands together and started to ramble, “I know I usually do it because you always forget things, but I left the other one empty in case there were things you wanted that I didn't think of. I just packed the necessities and stuff you always lounge around the house in since you weren't here to tell me which clothes you wanted. Was that overstepping? I'm sorry if it was. I was just trying to be helpful. I can undo it.”
Shae walked over to the bed and reached for the suitcase, but Jack reached out to grab her wrist and pulled her into his lap. She immediately wrapped her arms around his neck as he buried his face into hers. She lightly ran her fingers through his hair, and they sat that way for a few minutes, just breathing each other in.
Jack started to kiss her neck and she pulled away slightly, “Jack, what are y-“
He cut her off by softly grabbing her face and pulling her in for a kiss that she hastily returned. Shae felt her heart begin to race as he slipped his tongue into her mouth, exploring every crevice.
Jack turned them so that Shae was on her back and he was in between her legs. He didn’t break the kiss as he movies to pull off the leggings that she was wearing.
Shea wrenched her lips from his and panted, "We can't. Urban is in the living room.”
"Wouldn’t be the first time he overheard us." He flippantly countered with a shrug before reclaiming her lips which she instantly melted into.
This time, when he moved to take off her leggings, she lifted her hips to help him. He hurriedly pulled his pants down just enough to slip his dick out. Jack quickly lined himself up with her entrance and slid into her with one solid stroke.
Shae groaned into his mouth as she tried to adjust to having him inside of her. Jack set a frenzied pace as he reached down to wrap one of her legs around his waist.
"Fuck," he hissed as she scratched at his back. He angled his head to growl in her ear, "You always feel so good. How could I ever want anyone else?"
Shae whimpered when he pulled back slightly and tugged at her braids so she was looking up at him, “When I know how to make you feel this good, how could you think I’d be this way with anyone else?”
She reached up to cup his face but the softness of her touch and the look in her eyes held far too much emotion for Jack. He gently grabbed her wrist and pinned her arm above her head as he recaptured her lips in a searing kiss.
Jack could feel the signs that he was close to finishing and reached in between them to circle her clit with his fingers, still determined to prioritize Shae getting off before he did.
He swallowed her sob as she came. The feeling of her clenching around him was enough to send him over the edge.
He stayed on top of her, head buried in the crook of her neck as she rubbed her hands up and down his back. Her mouth is right beside his ear and Shae can't help but find herself chanting 'I’m sorry' and 'I love you' over and over again.
He finally rolled over onto his back to blankly stare at the ceiling as he tucked his dick back into his sweats.
Shae waited to see what he was going to say and found herself having to blink back tears when he did.
“We shouldn't have done that.”
She turned on her side, resting her head on her arm as she meekly replied, “Maybe not, but I think we both needed it.”
“I just...” Jack scratched his beard, “I just don't want to give you false hope or mixed signals.”
Shae felt like a bucket of cold water had been poured over her, “What is that supposed to mean?”
“It means exactly what you think it means.” He sat up and he let out a ragged breath, "We're not okay right now. And technically, you broke up with me before I left the house, so we aren't even actually together.”
Waves of hurt and anger washed over her, but after the chaos that had surrounded them over the past week, she didn’t feel like she had any real standing to argue.
Shae stood and grabbed her discarded leggings, clumsily pulling them back on as she mumbled, “I'll go wait in the living room with Urban.”
Before she can get too far out of his grasp, he gently grabbed her arm, lightly caressing it with his thumb as he murmured, "I'm not trying to intentionally hurt you, Shae. I swear I'm not.”
“I know.” She leaned down to kiss the top of his head and gave a defeated sigh, “I know.”
Shae quickly walked down the hall and past the living room to grab her keys off the wall. As she pulled a pair of tennis shoes off the shoe rack next to the door and started to put them on, Urban moved to stop her.
“Where are you going?”
Shea wiped away a few tears as she choked out, “I can't be here, Urby. Can you text me and let me know when y'all leave?”
“You don't have to leave, Shae.” He tried to put his arm around her, but she shook him off, “Just come sit on the couch with me.”
She shook her head, “I can’t”
“Shae.”
“No, Urban,” she harshly admonished. “I can't sit with you and let you comfort me because it’s very apparent that the odds are great that Jack isn't going to be able to move past this. So, I'm going to lose him. Sure, maybe PG will keep in touch here and there, but it won’t be the same as it has been. It can’t be. Y’all are his people. I need to start preparing for that so I can't be here with you two. Not right now.”
“Okay, fine,” he conceded. “But you shouldn't be driving. Not with how upset you are. Regardless of what he's feeling right now, he loves you. He'd never forgive himself or me if you stormed out of here and got into an accident. He shouldn't be too much longer. Maybe just go for a walk around the neighborhood?”
“Fine,” she acquiesced.
As soon as she'd shut the door, Urban made a beeline for Jack. He found him sitting on the floor with his back against the foot of the bed, knees were drawn, and his head in his hands.
He didn’t bother to look up as he spoke, “Don't start Urban. I know I just screwed up, okay?”
“I have no comment about what just happened.” Urban sank down to sit beside him and nudged his shoulder, “What I will say is you need to take the next two weeks to really think about what you want the outcome to be. She's obviously just as torn up as you are about this whole thing, but you can only act like this for so long before she has a right to be angry at you for it. Maybe all of this is too much and you two can't come back from it, but you spent 5 whole days on the phone with lawyers and cybersecurity techs trying to prove you were innocent because you didn't want her to end things hating you. Keep this up and that's where it’s going to end up anyway.”
He turned his head to look at his best friend, “I don't know if things will ever be the same.”
Urban nudged his shoulder again, “Bro, why would you want them to?”
“What?”
“You two weren’t in the best place before this and you're an idiot if you don't think that didn't somehow factor into her believing so easily that you would cheat on her.” He crossed his legs as he continued, “You told us she said that the other girls were probably easier to deal with than her. You don't think that statement tells you everything you need to know about where her head was at? Ask yourself, and be honest, if this had happened a year ago when things were still good, do you think she would have had the same reaction? Or do you think she gives you the time you ask for?"
“A year ago?” Jack ruefully shook his head and chuckled, “As soon as I said it wasn't me, she would have been on the phone with her lawyers trying to figure out what my lawyers needed to do.”
“Exactly. Everything about this situation sucks, but maybe this is an opportunity for you two to be even stronger than before.”
“Maybe.”
                           **********************
Shae walked back toward her house after getting the all-clear from Urban. She stopped short at the driveway when she realized that Jack's car was still there. She started to turn around but Urban quickly came out of the house and stopped her. He jogged over to her and started guiding her to the house.
Confusion marred Shae’s face, “You told me you two had left?”
“Only way I could guarantee that you’d come back,” Urban explained with a shrug. “You need to go inside and talk to him.”
She stopped dead in her tracks, “I don’t think that’s a good idea.”
“We leave tomorrow morning, Shae.” He looked her directly in the eye, “I know you don't want to hear it, but there's no guarantee you'll be joining us in two weeks, so you need to go talk to him now.”
Shae simply nodded and continued the trek to the front door. She tried to steel her heart as she opened the door and found Jack sitting on the couch in the living room. She toed off her shoes before she joined him in the room. She opted to sit in the lounge chair they had in the corner.
Jack cleared his throat and motioned to the opposite end of the couch, “Can you come sit over here?”
She cautiously took a seat on the couch, and he reached out to grasp her hand, engulfing them in his, “I need to apologize for earlier.”
“No, you don't,” the actress assured him.
“No, Shae, I do,” he asserted. “I agree with you that, to a certain extent, I think we were both desperate for it, but I don't know that it was the best thing for us right now.” He gently squeezed her hand, “I also want you to know that I love you. No matter what else I'm feeling right now, that hasn't changed. I should have said it back to you when you called me about the video.”
“I understand why you didn't.”
“I'm going to be honest with you, okay?”
She swallowed the lump in her throat before she spoke, “Of course.”
“I'm really hurt and really angry but part of that is because I know it only got this bad between us because things were already starting to strain,” Jack explained. “Even erasing this past week, we were already having problems. I think both of us really need to take some time and think about what we both want.”
“I don't need to think about it,” Shae exclaimed defensively. “I want you. I want us.”
“Do you really,” Jack questioned. “Or do you feel guilty because you didn't believe me, and you want to make that better?”
A knot instantaneously formed in Shae’s stomach as she realized that she didn’t actually know the answer to his questions. She was unable to fight back the sob that spilled from her lips and Jack quickly pulled her to his chest. She wrapped her arms around his waist, her wails muffled as she cried into his chest. He faintly kissed the top of her head as he rubbed his hands up and down her back to calm her down. Several minutes passed before Shae felt composed enough to pull away from him.
Jack lightly ghosted a hand along the top of her thigh, “Can I let you know within the week if I want you out on tour?”
“Yeah,” she wiped her face with her sleeve. “Yeah, that's fine.”
“Walk me out?”
“Yeah.”
He stood and then helped Shae get up from the couch. Once they reached the front of the door, he pulled her into a tight hug.
Shae pulled back slightly and bit her lip a bit before asking, “Can I kiss you?”
Jack hated that she sounded so hesitant. They’d always been a couple who tried their best to be safe places for open communication. Her uncertainty just reminded him of how badly the prank had screwed them up.
He gently caressed her face with one hand before he tilted it up toward him and he leaned down to meet her lips.
A small part of Shae was afraid that it was the last time she would ever get to kiss him so she tried to keep it going for as long as she could. When they both, eventually, came up for air, she gave him a few quick pecks in rapid succession across his lips which he gladly accepted.
They rested their foreheads against one another’s as they both tried to get their breathing under control.
Jack was the first one to step back.
“I love you, Shae,” he earnestly states.
Her throat feels like sandpaper as she croaks out, “I love you, too.”
With a slight nod, he opened the door and made his exit.
Shae was able to keep her sobs at bay until the car made it safely out of the driveway.

A/N: Reposting this since tumblr finally got it together and my posts now show up on tags. I hope y’all enjoy!
Pairing: Jack Harlow x Rockstar!OFC
———-
Hate the fact that you gotta wait, but you gon’ wait  ‘Cause you confident that we soulmates I told my therapist about you She always takes your side Ain’t nobody I love more, I just need more time
Marley sighed as her phone rang and buzzed across the counter in front of her. She barely resisted the urge to roll her eyes as she reached out to silence it.
“You don’t think making that his ringtone is a little overkill?” Kia, her hairstylist shook her head and locked eyes with her in the mirror, “Also, it’s been three weeks. You know he’s just going to keep calling and texting, right?"
She snorted, “Let him seethe. It’s what he deserves for embarrassing me.”
The other woman gently squeezed her shoulders before she returned to working on her hair, “Mar, the public doesn’t even know about you two. As far as they know, you two are just friends who met while featuring on Nas’ song a few years ago.”
“You know,” the singer held up her hand and started counting, “All of Purple Hull knows. All of Private Garden knows. Our close industry friends know. I couldn’t care less about the public, but he’s not going to embarrass me in front of our friends!”
Kia started to respond, but Marley kept ranting, “And what’s worse is he did it on some snake shit. How do you play me every song but that one before the album drops?” She crossed her arms, “Because he knew his ass was going to be in trouble. So, he can go be with the rest of his fucking roster. I’m a generational talent. He ain’t bout to play me like I’m in the G-League when I’m clearly a Luka.”
Riley, who had been silently observing their exchange from her seat on the couch, finally spoke up to ask, “You’re going to curse him out tonight, aren’t you?”
“If he keeps his distance, no,” she huffed.
Riley pushed herself off the couch, “Let me go change out of these heels into flats, just in case.”
                                *******************************
This is Marley. Sorry to miss your call. I’ve got the machine; you’ve got the message. You know what to do.
With a frustrated groan, Jack hit the end call button on his steering wheel without leaving a message.
He ran a hand through his hair as he spoke to his best friend, “She hasn’t answered me in three weeks, Urb.”
Urban didn’t even glance his way as he responded, “Gee, I wonder why?”
“She’s literally a rockstar,” he drummed his fingers on the steering wheel. “She’s acting like she’s never embellished a song.”
“If you thought the song was fine, you wouldn’t have hidden it from her when you played her the album. Which, by the way, we all told you was a terrible plan.” Urban took a hit of his blunt before he continued, “You gotta admit, ‘but you gon wait’ does make her sound like a lost puppy following you around just waiting for you to decided she’s good enough to commit to.”
“No one even knows it’s about her,” he argued.
“No one outside of our circles knows it’s about her,” Urban corrected, “but y'all both travel with big ass entourages, bro. We’re easily in the double digits of people who know about you two and your complicated ass relationship.”
“I said good things about her in that song and on Poison,” he defended.
Urban laughed, “Shit, don’t take any drinks from her tonight. She might actually poison your ass, but like the bad kind.”
Jack reached over to lightly smack his friend on the shoulder, “You stay thinking you’re funny and this ain’t it.”
Urban shrugged and took another drag, “As long as I’m laughing, I could give a fuck if you do.”
Jack flipped him off before he turned the radio up to end the conversation.
                               *******************************
As soon as they entered the venue, the rest of Marley’s band and her team headed straight to the bar or dance floor.
Marley decided to make her way over to the man of the hour to get her well wishes out of the way since she knew as the night wore on, more people would be showing up. She climbed up the spiral staircase to the VIP section and gave her name to the bouncer standing guard. After he let her in, she made a beeline for Nas.
As soon as he saw her, he pulled her in for a hug while exclaiming, “Marley!”
“Nas!” She pulled back slightly, arms still wrapped around his waist, and looked up at him, “How’s my favorite rapper?”
He flashed her a big grin as he answered, “Oh, he’s sulking around here somewhere since you ducking calls and texts.”
The singer dropped her arms and nudged him with her shoulder, “Imma be nice to you since it’s your birthday, but know that you need to get your jokes in now because that carriage changes into a pumpkin at midnight and I’m gonna drag your ass.”
“You wouldn’t dare.” He reached out and pinched her cheek, “You love me too much to be mad at me for more than 2 seconds.”
“Just because it’s true doesn’t mean you have to say it!”
He slung an arm around her shoulder as he asked, “Just do me a favor, okay?”
She shot him a skeptical look as she inquired, “What?”
“There are private rooms in the hallway right off the bathrooms. If you’re gonna give him hell, do it in one of those?” he pleaded.
Marley pretended to be offended, “Are you saying I’m gonna cause a scene?”
Nas laughed, “Girl, I’ve seen you in a mosh pit. Yes, that’s exactly what I’m saying.”
                               *******************************
Marley leaned against the bar, sipping on her whiskey sour. She felt someone slide into the seat next to her and she knew, before she even looked over, exactly who it would be.
“So how long do you plan on pretending I don’t exist, pretty girl?” Jack tried to keep his face and posture neutral since he knew cameras were around to cover the party, “Because I’m only in LA for the next 5 days and you’re wasting time we could be spending together.”
Marley scoffed, “I’m giving you the time you so publicly requested.”
He rolled his eyes, “I do believe the song said I needed more time, not space.”
“Well, as you know from experience, I’ve always been a generous lover so I’m kind enough to give you both.” She turned toward him to look him up and down, “You’re welcome.”
Marley downed her drink, set the glass back on the bar, and slid off the bar stool to walk away, but Jack lightly grabbed her arm and gently guided her back into the space between his open legs.
Even though he was sitting, and Marley was standing, their height difference still required him to lean down a bit to whisper in her ear, “I know Nas gave you the same directions as me so we can either head to one of those back rooms or you can cause a scene, Marley girl.” Jack released her arm, “Your choice.”
Marley took a step away from him and turned around to glare at him before she motioned towards the bathrooms, “I’ll follow. You don’t get the privilege of watching this ass walk in front of you.”
Jack couldn’t help but chuckle at her statement as he stood and began making his way through the crowd with Marley holding onto the back of his shirt to make sure that they didn’t get separated.
Once they found an unoccupied room, he opened the door to allow her to enter first, but she just stared at him until he entered first. Once Marley entered the room, she shut the door and locked it before she leaned against it.
Jack started to reach out to pull her toward him, but she held up a hand to stop him. He dropped his arms and reached up to scratch the back of his neck.
“You’re seriously bothered by this?” he demanded.
Marley snorted, “What gave you that impression, Jack? My lack of response to you or the fact I didn’t share your album on my socials.”
He crossed his arms as he questioned, “And what about all the other stuff that you know is about you?” He waited for her to answer and when it became apparent that she wasn’t going to he asked, “So, you don’t care that Poison is about you and that I got Wayne on it since he’s your all-time fave rapper? Don’t care I gave a nod to you in Like A Blade of Grass since you always say I remind you of the class clown from your high school ap classes?”
He placed a hand on each side of her head against the door, invading her personal space but not touching her, “Is that the only thing my Marley girl is mad about?” Marley’s eyes fluttered close as he leaned down to huskily murmur in her ear, “Are you also mad that I told the world about the mirrors you had me install in my house so you could watch how well you take me? Are you mad I hinted that you let me tape us?”
Jack caressed her face and she leaned into his touch. He trailed a finger along her jaw until he reached her ear, and he flicked the hoop that adorned it, “Are you mad that I told the world about how I fuck the earrings off of you?” He chuckled at the way Marley’s breath hitched as he moved his body flush against hers and nuzzled her neck, “If all these people listening to the album only knew how many of these damn hoops you’ve made replace.”
“Fuck you,” Marley ground out through gritted teeth, hating the way her body always reacted to Jack’s onslaughts.
She yelped as Jack lightly bit her neck before he admonished, “Fuck me? Seems like instead of worrying about earrings, I need to fuck the brat out of you.”
His rebuke felt like a bucket of ice water had been poured on her and snapped Marley out of her reverie. She pushed him away from her, “I’m not being a brat, Jackman, and you’re not about to fuck your way to forgiveness.” She sighed, “It’s not even really about the song. I mean, I really hate it, but the fact that you intentionally lied to me is fucked up and you know it.”
Jack held up both hands in defense at the use of his full name, “I didn’t lie.”
“A lie by omission, Jackman, is still a lie,” she asserted. “You and I have always been honest with each other about what this is and how we feel. You knew I wouldn’t like it and chose to wait until it was too late for me to give you hell and have you change it.”
“Fine,” he acquiesced, “I shouldn’t have done it. My bad. Can we go back out there now and have a good time?”
“The fact that you think that’s a real apology is wild. But that’s okay. That’s exactly the sort of attitude I’d expect from someone who looks up to Drake.” Marley unlocked the door and swung it open before she turned back to him, “Just remember, you aren’t the only one who writes songs in this equation.”
Before he could respond, Marley stormed off without a single glance back.

"Hate the fact that you gotta wait, but you gon' wait 'Cause you confident that we soulmates I told my therapist about you She always takes your side Ain't nobody I love more, I just need more time"
Marley sighed as her phone rang and buzzed across the counter in front of her. She barely resisted the urge to roll her eyes as she reached out to silence it.
“You don’t think making that his ringtone is a little overkill?” Kia, her hairstylist shook her head and locked eyes with her in the mirror, "Also, it’s been three weeks. You know he's just going to keep calling and texting, right?"
She snorted, “Let him seethe. It's what he deserves for embarrassing me.”
The other woman gently squeezed her shoulders before she returned to working on her hair, “Mar, the public doesn't even know about you two. As far as they know, you two are just friends who met while featuring on Nas' song a few years ago.”
“You know,” the singer held up her hand and started counting, “All of Purple Hull knows. All of Private Garden knows. Our close industry friends know. I couldn't care less about the public, but he's not going to embarrass me in front of our friends!”
Kia started to respond, but Marley kept ranting, “And what’s worse is he did it on some snake shit. How do you play me every song but that one before the album drops?” She crossed her arms, “Because he knew his ass was going to be in trouble. So, he can go be with the rest of his fucking roster. I'm a generational talent. He ain't bout to play me like I'm in the G-League when I'm clearly a Luka.”
Riley, who had been silently observing their exchange from her seat on the couch, finally spoke up to ask, “You're going to curse him out tonight, aren't you?”
“If he keeps his distance, no,” she huffed.
Riley pushed herself off the couch, “Let me go change out of these heels into flats, just in case.”
                                  *******************************
“This is Marley. Sorry to miss your call. I’ve got the machine; you’ve got the message. You know what to do.”
With a frustrated groan, Jack hit the end call button on his steering wheel without leaving a message.
He ran a hand through his hair as he spoke to his best friend, “She hasn't answered me in three weeks, Urb.”
Urban didn’t even glance his way as he responded, “Gee, I wonder why?”
“She's literally a rockstar,” he drummed his fingers on the steering wheel. “She's acting like she's never embellished a song.”
“If you thought the song was fine, you wouldn't have hidden it from her when you played her the album.
We're easily in the double digits of people who know about you two and your complicated ass relationship.”
“I said good things about her in that song and on Poison,” he defended.
Urban laughed, “Shit, don't take any drinks from her tonight. She might actually poison your ass, but like the bad kind.”
Jack reached over to lightly smack his friend on the shoulder, “You stay thinking you're funny and this ain't it.”
Urban shrugged and took another drag, “As long as I'm laughing, I could give a fuck if you do.”
“Nas!” She pulled back slightly, arms still wrapped around his waist, and looked up at him, “How's my favorite rapper?”
He flashed her a big grin as he answered, “Oh, he's sulking around here somewhere since you ducking calls and texts.”
The singer dropped her arms and nudged him with her shoulder, “Imma be nice to you since it’s your birthday, but know that you need to get your jokes in now because that carriage changes into a pumpkin at midnight and I'm gonna drag your ass.”
“You wouldn't dare.” He reached out and pinched her cheek, “You love me too much to be mad at me for more than 2 seconds.”
“Just because it's true doesn't mean you have to say it!”
He slung an arm around her shoulder as he asked, “Just do me a favor, okay?”
She shot him a skeptical look as she inquired, “What?”
“There are private rooms in the hallway right off the bathrooms. If you're gonna give him hell, do it in one of those?” he pleaded.
Marley pretended to be offended, “Are you saying I'm gonna cause a scene?”
Nas laughed, “Girl, I've seen you in a mosh pit. Yes, that’s exactly what I'm saying.”
                                 *******************************
Marley leaned against the bar, sipping on her whiskey sour. She felt someone slide into the seat next to her and she knew, before she even looked over, exactly who it would be.
“So how long do you plan on pretending I don't exist, pretty girl?" Jack tried to keep his face and posture neutral since he knew cameras were around to cover the party, "Because I'm only in LA for the next 5 days and you're wasting time we could be spending together.”
Marley scoffed, “I'm giving you the time you so publicly requested.”
He rolled his eyes, “I do believe the song said I needed more time, not space.”
“Well, as you know from experience, I've always been a generous lover so I'm kind enough to give you both.” She turned toward him to look him up and down, “You're welcome.”
