Isle of the Lost
↬ Zodiac ↫
Scorpio
↬ Height ↫
5′2

Heteroromantic, bisexual
↬ Social Class ↫
Was lower as everyone is on the Isle but soon will be upper. However i don’t feel like money is too much of an object in Auradon (wishful thinking ya know)
↬ Wealth ↫
Same as above soon girl’s gonna be queeeen (she already is a queen lbr)
A P P E A R A N C E
↬ Tattoos ↫
Wings on her ribcage and she is going to get a little tiny crown on the inside of her ring finger for Benny
↬ Piercing ↫
She’s got a couple ear piercings but nothing crazy
↬ Outfits ↫
She loves some dark colors. When she was younger she dressed much more rough around the edges with ripped clothing, short skirts and leather. Now she’s lightened up a bit and has nicer clothes. Still loves a combat boot though.
P E R S O N A L I T Y
↬ Normal mood ↫
Rose is usually a little cold. She’s guarded and doesn’t like to show her emotions. There’s a lot of RBFs going around. She comes off as scary but typically nowadays she’s just indifferent. (Unless there’s a Benny around)
↬ Temper ↫
Oh...man is there a temper. There sure tf is. She can get mad over small things and she will hold it against them
↬ Discipline ↫
She’s actually more disciplined than people give her credit for. Rose is very in control of when she acts out. She can be patient but it’s her decision when.
↬ Strengths ↫
Her magic is really strong. Physically..yes ish but she’s smol. Emotionally...there’s good days and bad days.
↬ Weaknesses ↫
For a long time she thought her weakness was being in love with Ben but she’s turned the page on that. Now I think her weakness is her past. She thinks it’ll be held against her forever especially for being a future ruler.
↬ Drive/dreams ↫
Truthfully she’s still not sure but we know it’s actually being with Ben and having a future with him. I think eventually when she accepts that, her drive is really going to be showing Auradon the positives of magic and helping all VKs with their potential.
↬ Fears ↫
Her whole family lmao. Briar, her mom, her dad. But not just them as people, them hurting the people she cares about.
↬ Likes ↫
Art, she loves painting or spray paint mostly. And magic. She enjoys still continuing to learn and practice it. Fruit, lace, motorbikes.
↬ Dislikes ↫
She still hates swimming, she just still doesn’t really feel comfortable. Beer, getting sweaty, bugs, sand. Rose also hates Cora lol
↬ Soft spot ↫
I mean obviously Benny
↬ Depression ↫
The past and when Briar came to Auradon, He became a trigger in regards to her past and made her go down a dark path for a while.
↬ Inspiration ↫
Her initial inspiration growing up was making her mom proud. Now I think her inspiration now has become her friends and Ben. The rest of the core really thriving in Auradon and then seeing how Ben is kind and strong.
↬ Role model ↫
Probably Ben & Evie
↬ Mental disorder ↫
She may have a bit of PTSD from the Isle especially when she first arrived and when Briar got there.
↬ Habits ↫
I feel like she has a habit of staying up really late and she probably taps her fingers or pens a lot when she concentrating.
R A T I N G S
(5 Stars means very high strength, 1 star means very low strength aka weak)
↬ Psychological strength ↫
⭑⭑⭑⭑⭑ - She’s strong and doesn’t want others to ever think she’s weak.
↬ Physical strength ↫
⭑⭑⭑ - Again she’s small bUT girl has her magic.
↬ Leadership ↫
⭑⭑⭑⭑ - She was great at leading the core however now that its come to the point where she does have the option of power with being queen, she is actually very hesitant.
↬ Wisdom ↫
⭑⭑⭑⭑⭑ - I’d say she’s pretty calculated and doesn’t make a decision typically without thinking it through.
↬ Intelligence ↫
⭑⭑⭑ - She’s smart but not always in a traditional way. School was fine but she really only wanted to focus on the subjects she’s interested in.
↬ Confidence ↫
⭑⭑⭑⭑⭑ - Even if it’s feigned confidence sometimes, she’s usually on top of it and keeps her confidence up.
↬ Endurance ↫
⭑⭑ - She’s not the best at dealing with things. She tends to push it to the back burner and bottle up hardships.
R E L A T I O N S H I P S
↬ Father ↫
Hades is still on the Isle but Rose never had much of a relationship with him. Briar and him were always closer. Her parents despised each other and she was closer to her mom so she barely saw him.
↬ Mother ↫
Maleficent was released as a lizard back to the Isle. Rose couldn’t keep her a lizard anymore when Briar came to Auradon. As far as Rose knows, she’s still there somewhere. Their relationship was tricky because she was cold, mean and tough with her but Rose still looked up to her and wanted to make her proud.
↬ Siblings ↫
Briar is still in Auradon and the sibling rivalry lives on but Rose has started to try and move on. She tries to avoid him and his lackeys at all costs. He thinks he’s stronger than her and always tries to compete. Rose is trying to figure out how they can solve things enough to co-exist in Auradon.
↬ Other relatives ↫
Since coming to Auradon she’s learned of having cousins from her dad’s side of the family like Sloane. But Rose still doesn’t feel the connection to them as family since they had such different upbringings.
↬ Enemies ↫
Briar and anyone who opposes the VKs
↬ Rivals ↫
Briar again lol
↬ Friends ↫
The Core - Evie, Kai and Chase are her closest friends and essentially family. She’s gotten closer to Sloane from Evie and even accepts Nolan as Ben’s best friend.
↬ Best friend ↫
Even though she loves Kai and Chase, her relationship with Evie is different. Rose tormented her for a long time from mostly jealousy. When they finally bonded, the two became sisters.
↬ Love interest ↫
Benny :)
↬ Marital status ↫
She’s currently engaged to Prince Ben.
↬ Children ↫
Eventually - Violetta, Regan, Acacia & Mitchell
↬ Pets ↫
Hm no. Rose never had much experience with animals on the Isle.
P A S T - T I M E
↬ Hobbies ↫
Paint, practice magic, hang out with the core and Ben. She wants to start learning to cook a little bit but she doesn’t expect to excel at it.
↬ Talents ↫
Her magic is one of the most advanced in Auradon and she’s not bad at painting and art.
↬ Sports ↫
She’ll watch tourney but only for Ben.
↬ Classes ↫
Rose definitely preferred art, english, or any creative classes.
↬ Occupation ↫
Well she’s a student and now future Queen. She’d has had a few freelance painting jobs around Auradon to make money and used to help when new VKs would come to Auradon.
H O M E   L I F E
↬ Location ↫
Rose and Ben bought a house together to have as their personal home then they also have the castle.
↬ House size ↫
It’s big but not as big as the castle.
↬ House type ↫
It’s a gothic and classical style home.
↬ Level of luxury ↫
Well the castle is very luxurious and their house is definitely really nice and big but they want it to feel more homey.
↬ Outdoor description ↫
Their house is private and secluded with a lush outside area. The actual house has ivy growing on it and feels like a storybook.
↬ Indoor description ↫
It has plenty of room for a future family and some bonus rooms like a theater. The style feels warm and classic with a touch of gothic style for Rose’s taste.
↬ Bedroom description ↫
The best part of their bedroom is the fireplace and balcony. It’s styled very romantic yet simple.
L I F E    S T O R Y
↬ Age 0-12 ↫
Growing up on the Isle was tough. She had to grow up fast. During this time she became more and more angry. Part of it was at her situation. She was jealous, angry and constantly trying to get into trouble. She was influenced by her mother and tried her hardest to make her proud by being rotten.
↬ Age 13-18 ↫
Leading up to going to Auradon, she got even worse. She had her friends and with them they had their fun pranking and finding trouble in the Isle. They were making the most of the terrible and disgusting place. At 16 when they got picked to go to Auradon, things changed. Not only did she finally see there could be light and a future, she had decided she didn’t need to be evil.
↬ Age 19-25 ↫
Then Briar finally came to Auradon. This became a catalyst for Rose to resort to her old ways. She always was still a VK. She loved still teasing people and creating some drama but with Briar she completely turned back around. Rose was tormenting people and broke up with Ben...a couple times. She would turn on her friends and just wanted to be alone, thinking that if she was alone, Briar wouldn’t be able to hurt her friends. As the years went by, she realized what she had for her in Auradon prior to her brother was stronger than being alone and mean. She came to this realization and slowly pieced her life back to where it is now.
↬ Darkest secret ↫
Rose doesn’t have many anymore but she feels like her biggest secret is her fear. She keeps so many walls up and tries to be portrayed as tough and cold. In reality, she’s afraid of her brother, her family, or anyone hurting the people she loves and she can’t be strong enough for them.

Descendants 2 with Harry Hook x Cindy Luna Charming
Just a heads up, this version of Cindy is a bit of a sad one, Chad doesn’t care about her, her mother is the only one that cares about her, her only friends are the vks.
warning: rape almost happens
I couldn't believe Mal went back to the Isle! Of course I went with them to go get back Mal. I had grown close to all the Vks. And of course Eveie had made me an Isle outfit. Light blue leather. Never realized how much I loved it.
We stood outside of the hide out. I was pacing, waiting for Ben to come back down. I took a look down the path we came from and saw a red scarf fluttering against a board. I headed down the path, taking the scarf in my hands, freeing it from its trap in the wood. Suddenly a cloth was put over my mouth, silencing my screams.
"Take er to the ship, we'll grab the king. This princess might come in handy." A scottish voice spoke.
I couldn't see anything as I was gagged,  blindfolded, and had my arms tied behind me, but I could feel the cold metal from what I could assume was a hook, which both scared me and…. Thrilled me.
"This one is mine." The Scottish voice stated, close to my ears, causing me to shudder.
I was suddenly thrown over someone's shoulder and was carried away. The rotting smell of the Isles waters smacked me in the face. I felt myself being carried onto a ship and brought down some rickety steps before being thrown onto the wooden floor, my blindfold being roughly torn off my face but the gagged remained.
A man in black pirate getup cackled from the other side of the bars of my cell. "I can't wait to see what Harry does to ya." He exclaimed before walking away.
That was the last straw, I scooted over to the farthest corner and cried into my knees. I was scared. I began to shake from fear when I heard a commotion uptop. They were keeping Ben upstairs.
I began to shake even more. Especially when slow footsteps sounded at the stairs.
"Well well well…. Damn it Bonnie! He was supposta leave ya in my room unharmed!" The scottish voice growls as he enters my cell and walks towards me.
I cower in fear, shaking with fear.
"Hey, lassie, it's ok. I'm not gunna hurt ya." He explained in a softer tone.
I slowly looked up at him and allowed him to remove the gag from my mouth.
"W-what do you want with me?"  I finally managed to get out after he walked me to his cabin and had me sit on his bed.
"To know ye a bit more." He explained as he rummaged through his drawers.
"Why?" I asked looking down at my lap.
"Because Luna, I have been watchin ya on the tele. And I think ye are amazin." He stated before smiling as he turned around, holding a bandaid in his hand.
"R-really?" I stuttered with a blush as he placed the bandaid on a cut I didn't even know I had on my cheek.
"There ye go. Oh wait let me free yer hands." He exclaimed, cutting the rope that tied my hands together.
I rubbed my wrists a bit before setting them in my lap.
"May I ask what your name is then, since you know mine?" I asked, looking up at him.
"Harry Hook." He introduced with a slight bow.
"Harry! Uma's lookin for ya!" Another voice called through the door. I recognized it as the son of Gaston.
"I shall be right back my lovely." He bowed again before quickly leaving the room, locking it behind him.
Whether that was for my safety or not was beyond me. I was still slightly scared. I knew the group wasn't going to risk rescuing me. What was the point. Ben was more important. He was the king after all.
I was the youngest of Cinderella's kids, only by a few minutes but still.
The VKs were my friends. But even if I was them I would leave me behind too. Maybe Chad will get over it. My parents certainly will. Momma might miss me but papa and Grandfather always wished I was more proper and ladylike. They wouldn't miss me….
I began to scratch at my arm, something I did when I was sad, anxious, or worried.
I heard a noise and quickly hid in the corner, scratching my arm worse and trying to make myself seem small.
I heard fighting up on top of the deck, I looked out the window and saw a hook go underwater then Harry diving in after it. My scratching became worse the moment the fighting stopped.
My arm was on the verge of showing more muscle than skin at this point. I heard footsteps stop at the door and I could feel myself shaking in fear as my scratching stopped.
The door opened to reveal a very wet, very annoyed Harry. He went wide-eyed when he didn't see me where I was when he left.
"Luna??" He asked worried.
I made a sort of squeak noise which drew him to the corner that I was huddled in. He noticed my arm and frowned, helping me to sit back up on his bed he rummaged through his stuff again.
"How did ye get hurt? I made sure no one would hurt ye." Harry grumbled as he continued looking for bandages.
"I-I did it to myself." I whispered, looking down in shame.
Harry stopped and looked at me. "What??"
"I scratch when I'm scared, nervous, sad, worried….." I explained, expecting him to turn away in disgust, like almost everyone did when they found out about this horrible habit I had.
"Luna. That's something I'm gunna have to break ye of. Ye shouldn't feel that with me. I'm gunna protect ye, no matter what." He explained before going back to his search.
We stayed quiet as he found a good sized bandage, putting it on my wound. He stood back up and grabbed a dry pair of pirate clothes.
"Imma go change in the chip shop I shall return shortly." Harry explained, leaving with a bow.
I sat on his bed, think about how Chad is gunna react when I'm not in my room….. or is he even gunna notice that I'm gone? The door handle began to turn and I looked up, expecting to see Harry.
Only for it to be who you presumed was Bonnie. "There you are lassie~~! I was wondering where Hook was hidin ya! You're coming with me~~!" Bonnie chuckled, grabbing my hurt arm roughly.
"H-Harry!!!! Help me!!!" I called out with tears in my eyes as I was forcibly dragged down the hall.
"He can't hear ya lassie, he's not even on the ship! Which means I get to have some fun!"
You were pushed onto a horribly stinky bed to which I tried to climb off of, only to be slammed back onto with my hands trapped above my head.
This Bonnie guy was kissing my neck, I started to cry as I felt him reach his hand up my skirt. No no no no! Please no!
"Oh, lassies a virgin. All the better~~!"
"Harry!!!! Help me~~~!" I cried, squeezing my eyes shut as I braced myself for more unwatiled touching.
It never came. I opened my eyes to see a hook at Bonnie's throat.
"Ye are gunna let me girl go or I'll make sure ye are swimmin with the fishes!" Harry threatened.
Bonnie released me and moved away, I scrambled to get up and hid behind Harry, shaking like a leaf. He held me close and walked me out of the room.
"I'm takin ye somewhere safer than here." He explained, taking my hand and running with me out of the docks and to a familiar place.
"Mal's hangout?" I asked, looking at him curiously.
"Yea. I dropped a hint to Jay about findin ya here." Harry admitted.
"Ye'll be safer back in Boredon then here." He stated, throwing a rock at the sign, causing the door to open.
"Go on." He gestured.
"First… tell me one thing about yourself.." i stated.
"Huh?"
"You wanted to get to know me, well first you have to tell me something about you."
"Oh um well, I'm the son of Captain Hook, the drunkest pirate in all the land, he even beats Captain Jack Sparrow in that." Harry frowned.
"I'm the daughter of Cinderella and Prince Charming, I am the youngest twin. My full name is Cindy Luna Charming. My father and Grandfather don't care about me. I have 4 friends, Mal, Evie, Jay, and Carlos…. And now you!" I smiled and kissed Harry's cheek before quickly running up the steps. I whistled at Harry and dropped the light blue scarf I had rescued.
"A gift from me to you." I said with a wink.
20 minutes later, Jay rushed into the hideout to see me spray painting my own design onto the wall.
"Luna~~!" Jay whistled, causing me to jump.
"Jay!" I exclaimed, hugging him.
"Come on, we've gotta get you ready for cotillion." He exclaimed.
We headed through the barrier, I couldn't help but look back, wishing I could see Harry again.
~~~~~~Cotillion~~~~~~
Of course Chad didn't even notice I was gone. He was too busy using Carlos and Jay's 3D printer. And then I learned he ran off to go help Audrey? Yea so I went to Cotillion alone. Kinda sucked but I smiled as the cameras took my picture on my way into the party. My dress looked just like my mom's old dress that her step  sisters destroyed. I walked onto the ship and went straight to Jay.
"Hey Jay… I have a question." I stated, looking up at him.
"Whats up Luna?" He stated smiling down at me.
"D-do you think that if Mal goes back that you can take me with her?" I asked hopeful.
Jarly lifted in eyebrow in curiosity. "Why? The Isle is dangerous! You almost got hurt!" Jay stated, keeping his voice low.
"I don't care. I left someone back there who deserves a chance at this life." I stated, looking back at the Isle.
Soon Lumiere announced Mal's arrival. Looking back at her I smiled at how pretty she looked. Although those colors didn't really match her style.
I walked over to where the VKs were and smiled at Mal. Ben's arrival was announced and stuff went down hill.
Uma had arrived. At least I'm assuming that was Uma.
~~~~~The Chip Shop~~~~~~~
~~~~~~3rd Person POV~~~~~
Harry watched the crappy tv as Uma appeared. Smirking as he knew what her plan was. Suddenly the camera panned to the VKs, and Luna. Oh did she look amazing.
"Hey ain't that the lass that Harry had?" One of the crew questioned.
Harry grabbed his hook and pointed at their neck. "Ye best shut yer mouth right now!" Harry threatened.
He went back to his seat and watched as Ben announced that Uma was going to be his Lady of the Court and that he was going to take down the barrier.
"Maties, WE RIDE WITH THE TIDE!" He exclaimed and the crew cheered.
~~~~~Cotillion~~~~~~
~~~~~Luna's POV~~~
I couldn't believe it. Uma spelled Ben. Everything seemed to be a blur. Mal broke the spell, Uma jumped overboard and became an octopus person. Then blackness.
~~~~~3rd person POV~~~~~
Evie shouted when she saw Luna get smack and knocked unconscious by Uma's tentacles. Mal got mad and turned into a dragon, and well you know how the fight went.
Uma gave Ben back his ring before diving under the water.
Luna finally woke up, sad that everything was done and that the barrier wasn't actually coming down. So she left to go sulk in her room.
~~~~Chip Shop~~~~~~~
Harry frowned as he realized he wouldn't be free. He wouldn't get to see Luna. He frowned and tied her scarf around his neck before sauntering home.
He walked across the ship, whistling a tune. Suddenly stopping he walks towards the camera. “What? Ye didn’t think that was the end of the story did ye?” He asked, rubbing his hook across his face before walking away, whistling the pirate’s life song.
The Wedding Date - Chapter 3
Snow White is getting married. Let the week-long festivities begin! Evie can’t wait to celebrate her sister’s upcoming nuptials. There’s only one little problem: she’s supposed to bring a date, and her mom's expecting a MALE date. Evie hasn't told her yet that she prefers girls (ok, she's afraid to tell her)! She’ll be damned if she lets Snow’s wedding be the moment that her mom finds out her secret and ruins Snow’s special day. So to avoid the issue, Evie convinces her friend Jay to join her and pose as her date/boyfriend to keep her mom off her back. That should be easy enough to fake for a week, right?
And it is, until two distractions show up. Namely, Mal and Carlos.
The Trail
Their trip ended quickly when the bus pulled up to a long stretch of beach, lined with horses of all different colors, saddled and ready to ride. The beach riding path is open and sunny, along smooth sands and calm waters. The beach eventually makes way to an open wooded trail, lined with trees and colorful foliage; a beautiful trail for a morning ride.
In that short drive Jay had fallen asleep on Evie’s shoulder, snoring loudly. When the bus finally comes to a complete stop, she leans over a little to make sure he’s asleep, then firmly flicks him in the nose with two fingers. Jay startles awake with a snort, wide eyes aimed at Evie, who is covering a giggle with her hand. He narrows his eyes at her but can’t hide his smirk, so he just nudges her to get up.
As they step off the bus, Evie’s eyes immediately flicker upward to the tied and saddled horses. She can’t stop the tiny shudder flaring up her spine at the sight of the tremendous animals. She grabs for Jay’s hand, giving it a tight squeeze when she feels his palm rest in hers.
“Still not a fan of horses, Princess?” He asks, in almost a teasing voice. He can’t hide his concern though, as he pulls on her hand and tilts his head to look at her. “Are you gonna be ok?”
Evie bites her lip, still gripping Jay as she stares pointedly at the brown and white spotted horse in front of her. She inhales sharply, and forces herself to loosen her hold on Jay.
“Yeah.” She breathes. “Snow loves horses. Always has. I can do this for her.” She turns to meet Jay’s eyes. “Besides, you won’t let me get hurt, right? My knight in shining armor,” she adds with a wink.
Jay unlinks from Evie and dips down in a bow, taking her hand in a gentlemanly kiss of her knuckles “But of course, Milady,” he drawls, in his most formal-sounding voice.
She bows her head with a giggle and swats his shoulder. “Thank you, Sir Jay,” she jokes. Still, when she sees the rest of the guests start to approach and mount the horses, she starts to stiffen again.
Jay straightens up and drapes an arm over Evie’s shoulder, walking her slowly towards the horses. They stand there for a moment so she can take a few deep breaths. Suddenly, an abruptly loud sigh behind her has her spinning on her heel.
Grimhilde approaches them, carefully pulling on red leather riding gloves, and Evie pushes back an eye roll at the spectacle. Her mom has a never ending need to be fashionably prepared for everything, but despite the occasion and need for comfort, she refuses to look like anything but a perfect lady. She used to force the same idea on Evie growing up, so she can’t even imagine how disappointed Grimhilde must be at the sight of her in tennis shoes right now.
“Darling,” Grimhilde pauses in front of Evie, eyes trailing her outfit from top to bottom. Evie’s frozen under her stare. Her face looks emotionless like always, but Evie’s in tune enough with her mom to know the criticism that’s about to follow.
“You can’t honestly still be afraid of horses, can you? I thought that was going to just stay a silly little childhood issue. When we grow up we mustn’t act so fearful, it’s not an attractive look.” She purses her lips as she brings her eyes back to her gloves, pulling and smoothing them over her fingers.
Evie huffs quietly, fisting her hands as she tries to respond in a calm voice. “Well mother, I think it might have something to do with that first riding lesson I took when I was eleven. When I stepped too close and Beauty fractured my foot? I was in a boot for six weeks.” She tries to gently unclench her jaw. “That’s not something you easily forget, when a large animal shatters your bones.”
Grimhilde walked up to the spotted horse closest to them, reaching out to stroke his side softly. “Please, dear. It was a tiny break. It was such a shame you insisted on ending your lessons, too. Horseback riding is a skill saved for true ladies and gentlemen.”
Before Evie can argue, Grimhilde waves a hand out to one of the employees helping with the guests. “Young man!” He turns her way. “If you would please?” She asks, gesturing up the horse to its back.
He runs a step stool over to her, offering her a hand as she steps up to the horse. She mounts easily with a smooth and quick swing of her legs, propping herself upright on the horse with a tight grip of the reins.
She tilts her head down slightly, opting to look at Jay instead of Evie. “I’m so glad she has such a strong man like you now, Jay. You’ll take care of my weak and timid little flower, won’t you?”
Evie crosses her arms across her chest, unable to hide the stern furrow in her brow. Her mother really knows how to get under her skin. But Jay just uses his arm on her shoulder to press Evie firmly against his side. “I’ve always got her, Ms. Grimhilde. But you should know, there’s nothing timid or weak about her. Her strength and determination are two of the things I love about her.” Jay smiles, looking only at Evie, ignoring Grimhilde’s gaze.
Grimhilde looks straight ahead for a moment, then closes her eyes with a small nod. “That’s good to hear, Jay, thank you. Please keep her safe on her horse then. I’ll be up ahead of the line with Snow and Christian, but I’m sure I’ll see you both at the picnic later.” She straightens her back and directs the horse ahead, leaving Evie and Jay alone.
“Thanks, Jay.” Evie smiles as she rests her head on his shoulder. “That was really sweet of you to say.”
“Of course, Eves. It’s all true anyway. Don’t let your mom think you’re anything but a badass, because she’s wrong. End of story,” Jay says with a grin.
Mal makes a sudden appearance in front of Jay and Evie, surprising them. “Hey! Ready to ride some horses?” She says with a big smile.
While she was only dressed in a simple black t-shirt and jeans with her high tops at breakfast, Evie notices that she must have added a purple and green leather vest before they left, which matches what Evie would have envisioned the brazen girl’s usual style to be like, more so than anything Evie has seen her in yet. Mal’s eyes flicker to Evie, offering a coy smile when she sees the girl’s eyes are already on her, and then walks up to a black horse next to them.
“Of course, your purpleness,” Jay said with a smirk. “Were you able to wake up the beauty queen?”
Mal turns back and gives Jay a sideways glance. “I don’t think I’d be standing here if I tried to leave without her, would I?” She chuckles.
Evie laughs and shakes her head. “Yeah, you really do know Audrey.”
Mal turns to Evie with a cunning smirk, and Evie can feel her heart flutter. Mal tilts her head back to gesture behind them. Evie and Jay turn to see Audrey getting on a horse, Chad boosting her up. Aurora and Phillip are near her, gracefully mounting two horses fluidly and with ease. Just by looking at them, you couldn’t deny they were skilled at this activity.
“I’m going back over there to ride with them. I haven’t spent much time with my Aunt and Uncle yet, and riding used to be one of the things we did together all the time when I was staying with them.” Mal turns her eyes down, humming quietly with a smile, lost in her thoughts for a moment. But she recovers quickly with a curl of her lips when she looks back up to Evie. “That’s not to say I love horseback riding, but I’m pretty good at it, so it can be a fun time.”
Jay is instantly distracted when he sees two people passing behind Mal, and the black and white curls that he’s become acutely aware of for the past two days come into view. Carlos and Doug are approaching two horses, getting ready to mount them. While Doug flips a leg over easily, Jay notices Carlos struggling. Looking at Mal and Evie still smiling at each other gives him an idea.
“So, you’re a good rider Mal?” Jay says, eyeing her.
She scoffs. “Yeah Jay. Are you a good listener? Because I think that’s what I just said,” She keeps a smile on her lips as she glances at him, conveying her teasing sarcasm.
Jay snickers and nods his head “Touche.” He points to Evie and places the hand once on her shoulder on top of her head. “I’m only making sure because this lovely lady of mine is anxious about riding right now. She’s never had much luck with horses.” He lets his eyes drift behind Mal to make sure Carlos isn’t on his horse yet, then looks back to her. “Do you think you could get her up and show how to sit and hold the reins right? Maybe give her a few tips for the ride.”
Jay could almost roll his eyes when he sees both girls glow with wide eyes at his suggestion. These lovesick chicks make it too easy. “Sure thing,” Mal replies. “But why aren’t you helping?”
“I...have to take care of one thing. I’ll be right back though, so we can hit the trail together ok?” He turns his head to Evie with a reassuring nod.
Evie has no doubt what that one thing could be, and she’s eager to have more time with Mal anyway so she shakes her head at him, a little too eagerly. When she sees Mal looking she stops, then looks right at Jay with a smile. “Absolutely, babe. See you in a minute.” She leans forward for a tiny peck before Jay drops his arm and walks away quickly, straight past Mal.
Mal spins her head to sneak a glance to where Jay is headed. Evie shakily stutters, trying to direct Mal’s attention back to her.
“S-s-s-so, do y-you think you can help me on this...thing?” Evie grits her teeth, approaching a black and white spotted horse tied up next to Mal’s. Mal whips her head back to Evie, quirking a smile at her as she walks closer. Evie feels herself tense as Mal steps in front of her. She shivers at Mal’s arm brushing against the small of her back, her palm then resting there firmly. She pushes on Evie gently, giving her a warm smile before the force turns Evie toward the horse.
“Ok, you know how to mount right?” Mal asks. Evie keeps her mouth shut tightly but nods. “Great. Put your foot up then. I’m just going to give you a little hand.” Evie follows Mal’s instruction mechanically, her brain still registering the warm hand touching her. Mal pulls it back to let Evie mount, but her focus is not on her foot in the stirrup and it slips out, causing her to stumble back, arching her spine and waving her arms for balance. Mal grips a hand on her shoulder while the other grabs Evie’s arm, steadying her. “Ok, whoa! Hold on.” She pulls Evie back and waits for her to settle back onto her feet. “Are you ok?” Evie stands back upright, exhaling deeply.
“I’m fine, sorry about that. I swear I can do this,” she replies, laughing lightly. On her second attempt her foot connects with the stirrup, and she reaches up to grip the saddle as she swings her leg over. She feels Mal’s palm touch her side as she lifts off the ground and she smiles to herself, the tiny act making her feel calmer and safe.
"There it is!” Mal cries, a little too loudly. A few guests turn to look her way, and she ducks her head quickly, a little embarrassed at the outburst. “Uh, good job Evie. I knew you could do it.” Her praise elicits a wide smile from Evie, and Mal tips her head back up to smile back. “Let me just, get on my horse now, and I can give you a few tips while we wait for the ride to start.”
-----
Jay walks quickly towards Carlos, watching as he stumbles off the stirrup for the third time. He’s dressed very simply today in a fitted red t-shirt and jeans with black and white high tops, but Jay had barely taken notice of anything except how fucking great those jeans fit him. His resolve is extremely low at the moment because of that little detail that’s clouding his mind.
Once he sees Doug successfully mount his horse and turn away briefly to talk to another guest, he knows he has the perfect opportunity. Jay comes up quietly and gets close behind Carlos, tucking his head in next to his ear. “Need a helping hand?” He whispers.
Carlos yelps, jolting forward in surprise. He turns around abruptly with his hands out and eyes blown wide open, but drops his hands and sighs loudly when he sees Jay.
“Jay!, You almost gave me a heart attack!” He says, clutching at his chest.
Jay snickers and offers a small shrug. “I’m sorry, Carlos. I just couldn’t resist.” Carlos just shakes his head, finally letting a tiny smile turn on his lips. Jay feels his heart thump in his chest. The pure excitement from simple interactions with Carlos was enough to get him racing, but every time he makesCarlos smile it feels like the most intense and exciting adrenaline rush. It was enough to make Jay crave that feeling all the time.
“So, how about that helping hand? I think one good swing and we can get you up there,” he says, waving at the horse’s saddle.
Carlos smiles shyly and nods, eyes pointing to the ground. “That would be great, thanks.” He looks back up at Jay through thick, dark lashes. Crap, he really hopes Carlos can’t hear him swallowing the huge lump in his throat.
“Alright, just put one hand on the saddle here while you put your foot in the stirrup. That should give you enough leverage to swing the other one up and over,” Jay explains, gently grabbing Carlos’ wrist to direct him to the saddle. He keeps one hand steady on the horse’s upper body as Carlos places his foot in the stirrup. Carlos’ small frame is easily blocked from view with Jay standing in front of him, and as Carlos lifts and starts to swing, Jay swiftly reaches up to palm a wonderfully firm backside and hoist it onto the seat. While he manages a little squeeze, his hand shoots back down in less than a second, leaving Carlos on the saddle looking speechless, mouth hanging open.
“See? Easy peasy.” Jay smiles, trying to keep his action from being plastered all over his face in joy. He can feel his own face burning now, a searing combination of embarrassment and excitement taking over the colors of his face.
Carlos looks down at him, silent, and Jay can see there's a pink creeping up his face too. As enjoyable as Carlos’ blush is to Jay, he does feel a tinge of regret for upsetting the boy because he can’t keep his own urges under control.
“Um, is everything ok here?” Doug questions. He’s trotting his horse up next to Carlos while boring his eyes down at Jay.
“Yeah man, we’re fine. You can chill,” Jay says, staring back at Doug and refusing to avert his eyes. He knows he's failing at hiding his irritation, but he’s not sure he even cares. Doug should really just mind his own business.
But Doug doesn’t really seem to care what Jay has to say. He lets out a contemptuous snort, then pulls his eyes away from Jay and turns to Carlos, who still looks visibly stunned. “C? You ok? Did he do something?”
Jay balls his hands into fists, digging his nails deeply into his palms. He bites his lip in anticipation, fearful of what Carlos will say. Did he go too far? Probably, especially if Carlos doesn’t feel the same. He can feel his heart drop into his stomach. He’s not prepared for this to be the last time he flirts with Carlos.
“N-no.” Carlos squeaks, barely audible. “I’m fine. This damn horse was just such a pain to mount. Jay stopped by to offer a helping hand,” he tells Doug, with a quiet, breathy laugh.
Jay’s mouth dropped open in shock. Carlos didn’t tell Doug what he did? He looks up at Carlos, who’s offering a small smile to him. Jay sighs and hints a smile back, dropping his shoulders and relaxing.
"Ok, fine. I guess that’s nice of him,” Doug sneers. “But Jay, I bet your girlfriend could use some help? Probably a good idea not to keep her waiting.”
“Thanks, Doug.” Jay replies through partly clenched teeth. He keeps smiling at Carlos, refusing to acknowledge Doug. “I’ll see you on the ride.”
He turns back to walk to Evie, his chest feeling like it might burst. Carlos hadn’t ratted him out to Doug, and he even smiled after covering for him. That has to mean Carlos is at least a little interested in him, doesn’t it? Jay hasn’t felt this hopeful since first laying eyes on the beautiful freckled boy. He resists the urge to skip back to Evie, eagerly anticipating what the rest of this day might bring.
-----
“Princess...I don’t want to push you, but do you think we could maybe go a little faster? I’d have better luck walking.”
Evie’s whole body is stiff. Her hands are limp and unmoving, with the horse’s reins laced between her fingers. She’s not coaxing or encouraging her horse to move, so he just barely walks along the path, even stopping occasionally to graze on the tiny shoots of grass that pop up along the beach path. The tight, toothy smile on her face is obviously fake to Jay, just trying to hide her fear of the dangerous animal she’s currently perched upon.
Jay watches the last couple of guests trot past them and sighs. Evie’s horse has stopped to graze again, and they’re going nowhere. “Didn’t Mal give you some riding tips? I thought she was going to help you out.”
“She diiiid, but I’m still nervous!” Evie groans. “What if I fall off and he tramples me, Jay? Those hooves hurt, trust me on that!”
Jay inches his horse closer to Evie and places a hand on her saddle, leaning into her. “C’mon Eves, don’t you trust Mal? She told you herself she’s a good rider. Just give it a try. And I’m right here with you if anything goes wrong.” He pats her horse gently and then pushes himself off, giving her a little room.
Evie sucks in a deep breath, and closes her eyes as she exhales. She lets her body relax as she lifts the reins and pulls back on them lightly, squeezing the horse with her calves at the same time. “Go.” She says in a firm voice, and the horse immediately breaks into a trot. Jay smiles happily as he urges his horse to follow.
“That’s my girl!” Jay exclaims. “Mal definitely taught you some moves. I’m guessing your time together went well today, huh?” He asks with an arched eyebrow.
Evie steals a look his way, biting her lip. Thinking back to every moment with Mal so far can always bring a smile to her face, and Jay leans forward when he notices her happy glow. “Damn, that well? Nice going, Eves!” He grins and flashes a thumbs up at her.
Evie just shakes her head, suppressing a giggle. “It’s not like that. It’s not like anything special happened. We just talked, and she helped me on my horse.” She looks up at him, expression turning serious. “She’s just...amazing, Jay. She’s beautiful, obviously, and so, so witty and smart. She’s got such a personality too, so bold and outspoken. At the same time, she was really gentle and kind with me today, trying to help me get on the horse and ride. And she was really excited for me when she saw me facing my fear. It was so sweet. She’s amazing.”
“If I were to guess, I’d say you were amazed by her, Princess,” Jay replies, snorting with laughter.
“Hilarious,” she drawls, rolling her eyes. “Ok, I get it. I know I’m not being so articulate. She flusters me Jay. I can’t help it. And you know what? That really worries me. My mom’s going to see through me in no time.” She looks ahead to the trail and cranes her neck, trying to spot her mom or sister. Despite not seeing them nearby, she still lowers her voice. “This weekend will end in disaster if my mom so much as gets the idea in her head that I might be into girls,” she whispers towards Jay.
Jay shakes his head at her. “I think you're giving your mom a lot more credit that she deserves for being observant, Eves. Unless it’s about her, does she really notice anything?” Evie pauses to think, eventually nodding in agreement to Jay’s point. “Listen, I get why you’re doing this, the pretending with me. To avoid the drama with your mom, for the sake of your sister and her wedding,” Jay says with an exasperated huff. “But you need to stop worrying about making other people happy and remember that you deserve to be happy too, ok? Don’t let the best girl you’ve ever met slip through your fingers because you’re worried about your mom.”
Evie shrugs sadly. “It wouldn’t be the first time I let someone go because I was worried about her approval,” she mumbles. “But you’re right. I’ll keep spending time with Mal. I only have this week to really see if there’s something there, so I’m not wasting it.”
“That’s the spirit!” Jay practically shouts, making Evie almost jump off her horse. She shushes him and smiles, shaking her head.
“Forget about me for me, and tell me what happened with Carlos back there? Did you talk to him more? I remember someone telling me they would stop flirting and just focus on talking if I needed them to...” she says, narrowing her eyes a little as she looks at Jay.
Jay drops his head away from Evie’s prying eyes, silently chewing his bottom lip. He curls his fingers instinctively, as if he thinks Evie can guess what they last touched just by looking at them. He finally sheepishly meets her gaze, unable to hide the guilt on his face.
“Jayyyyyy!”
“In my defense, have you seen him? It’s not like he makes it easy to keep my cool.” Evie keeps her eyes locked on Jay. “Eves, he’s got, like, the fucking DEFINITION of bedroom eyes, ok? And lips that were made for kissing. And don’t get me started on that tight ass of his..:” he commented in a lowered voice.
Evie’s eyes are now blown wide with shock, mouth hanging open. “Tight ass? Jay, tell me you did NOT…”
Jay turns away quickly, rubbing his neck with one hand. “I’m weak Eves. I’m sorry.”
“Oh God, what happened?” Evie definitely couldn’t hide the worry now. “How obvious were you? Fucking hell, Jay!” Fear slowly creeps up into her. Now she can’t shake the idea that he might have been caught by someone at the wedding.
“Calm down Princess, Carlos almost didn’t even notice that I did it, I was discreet. But I may have gotten a handful when I helped him on his horse,” he says, a smile curling on his lips at the memory.
“Well great for you, but what if someone saw you? My mom knows everyone here, it could still get back to her if you were caught,” Evie replies with a frown.
Jay winces, realizing he may have been rash with his actions. “Dammit, I didn’t think of that. I’m sorry. I promise though, no one saw me, I’m positive. Shit, I swear I’ll be more careful.”
Evie rubs her face with one hand, but instantly regrets the move, grabbing the reins tightly again. “More careful, how? Please tell me you’re not going to try anything else with Carlos. What happened to talking to him, getting to know him better?”
“I still want that..” Jay paused, trying to choose his words. “...but I can’t fight the tingle.”
Evie just stares at him, utterly confused. “The tingle?”
“You know, that fiery feeling. That urge...to touch someone you’re attracted to. It’s not just about sex. I swear, Evie!” He adds, responding to the quirk of her eyebrows. “You just, you feel that you need to have that contact with them, so you can feel that they’re real. For yourself, because you almost can’t believe it.” He looks down at his hands, flexing his fingers and examining his palms.
“Wow.” Evie breathes, stunned by his words. “Jay, that’s almost poetic. Romantic even.”
“Really? Thanks,” Jay says, smiling warmly at her. But a flicker in his eyes suddenly turns the smile into something eerily smarmy. “Does that mean you wouldn’t object to me getting some action? Maybe I can entice Carlos into our room for a little makeout sesh...or even some over the clothes activities,” he suggests with a shimmy of his shoulders.
“And there’s the old horny-as-fuck Jay we all know and love. Welcome back.” Evie says, tilting her head at him with an overstated eyeroll.
“So, I take it that’s a no then?” He pouts out his lip at her, doing his best to look pathetic.
“What do you think?” Evie huffs. “Do you really think no one would notice if you took someone else besides me into our room? C’mon Jay, be serious. Don’t you think I’d be doing the same with Mal if I thought I could get away with it? We’re NOT taking that risk. You know better.”
“Fine, little Fun-sucker,” he teases, giving Evie a little smile.
“Whatever.” Evie sits in silence for a moment, thinking. “Don’t you think, if you don’t let your dick get in the way, you might discover that you actually really like him?” Evie asks, glancing at Jay. “I think you should give Carlos, and yourself, the chance you really deserve, to see if there’s potential. For a REAL relationship. Maybe, just maybe, Jay, he’ll be the one that makes you drop those awful pickup lines and gets you to finally ask someone out like a real gentleman.”
Jay sighs and turns to her. “Yeah, I know Eves, ok? I’ll try, but no promises. You know this is totally not, my, you know...comfort zone.” Evie smiles, nodding slowly in agreement.
He looks ahead on the trail, then gestures to Evie. “Now that you’ve successfully cockblocked me, do you think we can try to catch up? I can barely see anyone else, they’re probably already into the woods by now.”
Evie brightens, flashing a smile at Jay. “Oh! I can do this! I’ve seen this plenty of times in movies. Watch!” She dips forward in her saddle, almost into a racing stance and squeezes her legs again while she whips the reins.
Jay’s heart drops. He can already see what’s about to happen and it’s too late to stop it. “No, Evie, wait! Don’t -- ”
“Go!”
A sudden jolt forward throws Evie back into the saddle, slamming her butt down hard. She squeals in surprise, her eyes snapping shut when she registers the pain. They fly back open quickly when her body starts bouncing rapidly. The beach scenery is zooming past her, and she can faintly hear yelling behind her. The wind whipping in her face is making it almost impossible to hear anything but her own heart pounding.
She looks around for Jay, only then realizing he must be the one yelling. She’s coming upon the rest of the guests quickly, and she tenses when she sees all the horses blocking her way. Her horse veers off, and she catches her breath as she feels the bump of the uneven earth when the horse leaves the smoothness of the trail and clambers into the woods.
She feels the close brush of shoulders and hair as she whips past, which urges her to find her voice and start screaming. But her sounds are taken so quickly in the rush of air as they fly through the woods. She can see and feel branches and leaves tearing through her hair and whipping at her face. She’s too paralyzed with fear to try any other commands, so she just grips the reins as tightly as she can, closing her eyes again and silently wishing for Jay to get to her already.
-----
“Fuck! Fuck fuck fuck fuck fu--EVIE!”
Jay whips the reins on his horse, breaking into a gallop as fast as he can after Evie. He knew immediately when she started leaning forward into race mode this wasn’t going to end well.
Her horse took off like a shot. Jay barely had time to understand what was happening before she was already halfway down the beach, about to overtake the other guests.
Jay’s a decent rider, but he’s never had to race a horse before, and now he’s frantic to get his to move faster so he can catch the black spotted one pulling away from him, his friend perched on top frozen in panic.
When he hears her scream his heart only races faster, and he jams his calves against his horse’s sides to coax out more speed. When he approaches the largest crowd of riders he spies a flash of purple, and in a desperate effort shouts to her. “Help! That’s Evie!” He speeds past the group, hearing someone (Audrey?) shout, “Go! You’re faster!” He breathes a tiny sigh of relief when he hears another set of hooves coming up behind him.
Mal flies by him at lightning speed, closing in quickly on Evie. In a few seconds she’s already close enough to reach for her reins. Jay focuses on getting to them to help, but in an instant he’s upon them, Mal having already calmed Evie’s horse down to a trot. He hears Mal speaking slowly in a calm voice to soothe the animal as it slows its stride.
“It’s ok girl, you’re ok. That’s a good girl,” Mal coos, petting the horse’s mane once she brings it to a full stop. Her eyes shoot up to Evie when she hears a tiny hiccup. Mal stares, brows furrowed in concern, when she sees the girl’s eyes wide and brimming with tears, a look of sheer terror fixed on her face.
Uncertain of what to do, Mal chooses to continue her coos, but instead directs them at Evie, trying to soothe her too. “It’s ok, you’re ok.” She reaches forward to place a hand over Evie’s, shocking her back to life. She looks down at her covered hand, quiet and observing. When she looks back up to Mal, her lips turn lightly into the beginnings of a smile.
“That’s a good girl,” Mal coos again to Evie. She bursts out into giggles, and soon Mal joins her, neither breaking eye contact with the other.
Jay watches the entire rescue with a wide grin, the fear ebbing away to warmth at Evie’s current joyful state.
“Mal, you weren’t kidding about being a good rider. Damn,” Jay comments, offering her a high five. “You’re probably the best I’ve seen.Thanks for saving our Princess here, she really had me worried.” He looks to Evie with a tinge of sadness in his smile.
“You’re too sweet, babe, but I’m fine.” She says, reaching her free hand out to clasp onto his for a brief second, her other hand still underneath Mal’s. “But yes, thank you Mal. You saved my life.”
“It’s nothing, no big deal,” Mal dismisses the praise with a wave of her arm. “I’m just glad you’re ok. Now, are you NOT going to take off anymore like you’re in some wild west movie? Or do I have to escort you back to the picnic to make sure you stay safe?”
Seeing the rest of the group approaching them now, Jay gets an idea.
“Actually, Miss Purple, I think it would be a great idea if you could escort her back.”
Both girls gape at Jay, mouths hanging open. “I-I’m sorry?” Evie asks, utterly confused.
“Princess, this is not your sport, ok? You are so lucky you didn’t get seriously hurt just now. I think you’ve had enough for today.” He tilts his head and touches her shoulder reassuringly. “Mal’s a fucking awesome rider. If she’s ok with taking you back, she can make sure you’re safe and hopefully give you some advice on your...technique,” he chuckles.
Evie sighs, shrugging her shoulders in defeat. “I guess you’re right. It’s probably better I go back anyway, I think I’m still shaky,” she stretches a hand out in front of her, noting the tiny tremors that are still visible. “If Mal doesn’t mind, I’m all for it.”
Mal nods, leaning forward to reach for Evie’s reins, helping to turn her horse around. “Sure thing. I wouldn’t want the Princess to get into any more trouble,” she adds with a wicked grin as they start a slow pace back down the path.
-----
Jay waves as Evie and Mal head back to the picnic. The guests start closing in on his location along the trail, and he can see Snow’s confused eyes looking up to him as they approach. Her mouth hangs open, still a little stunned at what she had witnessed. Christian sees her distress and addresses Jay for her.
“Everything ok? Evie’s good?”
“Yeah, little hiccup. Princess thought it’d be a good idea to try to race. Don’t think she had any idea she could go that fast.” He says with a loud snort and a smile. “She’s fine though. A little freaked, so Mal offered to take her back for a little rest.”
Snow visibly relaxes, sinking her shoulders and offers Jay a pleased smile. “Thank goodness. Thank you Jay. Were you going to file in line and join us for the rest of the ride?”
He nods, craning his neck to act like he’s casually looking for an opening. His smile spreads wide at the white curls he’d hoped to find, immediately turning his horse into line next to the cute freckled boy who’s already flashing him a bright smile.
“Jay!” Carlos chirps. He startles at his own high-pitched enthusiasm, and tries clearing his throat. “I’m glad you and Evie are ok. Everyone saw what happened.”
A genuine look of relief reflects through his dark brown eyes as he surveys Jay. Jay returns the looks with a sincere smile. He  can’t ignore the stirring feelings pooling in his stomach when he’s with Carlos, and in his mind he silently thanks Evie for convincing him to keep his raging hormones in check and give himself the chance to learn more about the boy.
A head pokes out from behind Carlos, with the same discerning glare that’s been glued to Jay for days. He resists the urge to curl his lips in anger at the sight.
“Yeah, really glad she’s ok, man. I’m glad you and Mal got back to her in time.” Doug looks back to the route Mal and Evie just took. “So tell me, why is Mal taking her back? Seems to me that should be her boyfriend’s job, right?”
“That’s what she wanted Doug. What do you want me to tell you?” Jay says with a shrug. “I think she didn’t want to spoil my fun.” He avoids Doug’s eyes, instead turning to Carlos with a wink. Carlos smiles coyly, but then turns away, keeping his eyes along the trail.
Jay hears Doug huff and can’t resist a little smirk. This little game with Doug is becoming deliciously satisfying to him.
The group starts to circle back around to make the trek back to the beach for the picnic, and there’s a comfortable silence for a few minutes as everyone situates themselves to the new route. Once steadily moving, Jay casts a side glance to Carlos, mouth feeling a little dry as he attempts normal conversation. At least, normal to everyone else. Communication without flirty comments or pickup lines are not considered the norm for anyone that knows Jay.
“So, Doug. You’re still studying architecture, right?” Doug perks an eyebrow at his question, but nods his head. “How’s school going?”
“Good…” He answers slowly. His look is quizzical, not trusting where Jay is going with this. But he decides to continue. “Midterms were a bitch, but I actually think my finals won’t be too bad. I just need to make sure my final building project is submitted on time, but I’m in a good place.”
“That’s great to hear, man. Glad things are going well.” He turns to Carlos, resisting the urge to trace along his smattering of freckles with his eyes. “So, Carlos. What are you in school for?”
Carlos visibly perks at the question, his eyes glowing bright with excitement. Wow, is he this geeked just because I asked about school? Jay doubts he’s ever seen anyone get so excited when being asked about their education. His reaction is damn adorable, so Jay doubts he’d forget ever seeing something like that. Cool it, Jay. Focus on talking.
“I’m studying to become a veterinarian.” He says with a big smile. “So right now I’m finishing up my Bachelor’s Degree in biological science. Once I graduate I’ll be getting my Doctorate in veterinary medicine.”
“Finishing your degree?” Jay was a little taken aback. Carlos seemed to be slightly younger than he and Doug, by maybe a couple of years or so.
“Yeah, Carlos is wicked smart,” Doug tells him. “He graduated high school at sixteen.”
“Wow.” Jays stares, obviously impressed. “And you’re an animal lover then? I mean, obviously, right? You can’t be a vet and not care about animals, can you?”
Carlos giggles at him, causing the cutest nose wrinkle. “I mean, you probably can, but that’s not me. I love animals. In fact, someday I hope to open my own veterinary clinic.”
Jay has never seen Carlos so bright and happy, and he loves it. He leans forward to give him a light pat on the knee. “That’s great Carlos! Helping animals like that is noble. You’re a really impressive guy.”
Carlos drops his eyes down as his beautiful pink flush dusts his cheeks. This time Jay is proud of the flush, because his honest opinion of Carlos is what caused it. Carlos impresses Jay more and more every time they talk.
The path opens back up to the beach, and they can see the torch lights and blankets already laid out, pink petals strewn across cloud blue blankets, with a few pink peonies settled in the center of each.
The guests all start to slowly shuffle their way to the rows of fencing where the horses were originally tied, white suited attendants patiently waiting to help secure the harnesses properly for each horse.
As they approach their original destination, Doug turns to show Jay a tiny sneer. “Well thanks for the company Jay, but I’m sure your girlfriend could use some help. Jay flinches and sneers back. Doug’s favorite word must be girlfriend now, he’s spat it at him enough for Jay to wonder if he knows any others.
Jay waves Doug a way, holding back his look of disgust.“Dude, she’s been back, remember? I’m about to go check on her, but I doubt she needs my help. Mal’s got the horse thing covered way better than I could.”
Doug rolls his eyes as he swings his legs to dismount. Jay just takes a flying leap down and sticks his landing perfectly.
He rushes over to Carlos, who’s dropping his legs over to one side already and waving around his foot to try to locate the stirrup. “Need some help?” He purrs, touching a light hand to Carlos’ side.
Jay pulls back when he feels Carlos stiffen under his touch. He twists back onto the horse, sitting for a moment, his face now impossibly red.
“N-no. I’m ok. I probably shouldn’t be getting another helping hand.” Jay can’t hide the instant look of disappointment on his face. “Doug’s right, you should probably be checking on Evie. Your girlfriend needs you.”
Carlos dips his head silently, then returns to his dismount. Jay watches him, reaching up a hand to rub at the back of his neck.
“I...guess you’re right. I’ll go find her. I’ll see you at the picnic though?” Jay steps back a little as Carlos finally lands on the ground. When he looks up he sees how close he landed to Jay, their chests only inches apart. His eyes widen in surprise but he doesn’t step back. He quietly nods to Jay, locked into his eyes until a hand grabs Carlos by the arm and pulls him.
“Yeah, see you later Jay.” Doug snorts at him, dragging Carlos along, who offers Jay a final glance and smile before taking Doug’s lead. Jay sighs dejectedly while watching them go, then marches off to find Evie.
——-
“Ok Princess, we’re almost back. Let’s try one more command,” Mal says with a grin.
Evie smiles proudly and nods at her. They’ve been practicing the entire trip back, and she’s surprisingly happy with how much easier riding a horse has become to her in just a few short minutes. Her fear has quickly faded underneath an eagerness to succeed at each new command. It might be partly to savor the impressed looks that Mal’s been throwing her way, but she’s not caring to understand the reasons for now, only focusing on each new lesson as they’re given.
“So, start to tighten your entire body. No, no, don’t squeeze anything,” Mals says as she sees Evie press her legs together. “The point is the horse not feeling you respond to its movements, which starts to signal to him that you don’t want him to move.”
Evie tries what Mal says and notices the horse starting to slow. She can’t resist widening her smile. “It’s working! I’m doing it!”
Mal nods, smiling brightly. “Yeah, you’re doing great.” She looks up to see how close they are to the horse drop off. “...ok, it looks like we’re about ready to stop. Now, I want you to firmly hold the reins, pulling back as you say ‘whoa’ to him. Keep your upper body straight, the only movement he should feel is the reins.”
Evie does as she’s told. “Whoa!” She states firmly and pulls the reins, marvelling at how quickly the horse comes to a halt. She can’t break from her wide toothy smile, and she looks at Mal flushed and beaming with pride.
“I did it! I can’t believe it. I rode a horse today. And I don’t feel freaked out or afraid! Well except maybe for that minute I thought I was going to fly off and get trampled, but now I feel great! This was actually fun” Mal shakes her head at Evie’s rambling, smiling to herself as she jumps off her own horse, grabbing the reins to give to a waiting attendant.
Mal then walks up to Evie’s horse and takes the reins from her hands, giving them to another attendant to hold. She looks back up to Evie with a warm smile, offering her hand. Evie can feel her face burning. She’s sure her flush is now dark red as she accepts Mal’s hand, turning herself on her horse and sliding off to jump down. Mal’s other hand shoots up to her waist as she descends, steadying her to land on her feet. Evie and Mal stare at each other for what feels like minutes, Evie’s enthusiasm gradually softening to admiration as she looks into Mal’s beautiful green eyes.
She shakes out of it when she squeezes her hand and feels Mal squeeze back. She pulls back quickly, dropping her hand to her side with an embarrassed chuckle. “Let’s...go see if we can find a good place to sit for the picnic,” she says, pointing at the blankets laid out on the beach.
They walk slowly, side by side, stealing glances at each other. “You know, you’re a great instructor.” Evie offers through a sideways look. “Have you ever considered teaching? You have the patience for it.”
Mal scoffs at the suggestion. “No one’s ever told me I’m patient before.”
“Well, I never felt rushed. And you never made me feel like you were frustrated either. Which is amazing because I’m a FREAK when it comes to horses.” They both burst out laughing. “I’m serious though,” Evie comments as their laughter dies down. “I’m not easy to teach, and you were great. You have real talent as a teacher.”
“Thanks,” Mal says, her smile warm and appreciative. “I have thought about it, but not with horseback riding, actually. That’s really just a skill I picked up, not a passion of mine. I spent a lot of time with my Aunt Rory and Uncle Phil growing up, so they occupied my time with riding. Audrey loves it, so they were hoping we might bond over it.” She giggles a little at the idea. “We actually did, if I’m being honest. Even though I’m better than her at it, she still feels like she can brag to others. She says she taught me everything I know. And as long as she has bragging rights, you know she’s happy.” The girls laugh and nod to each other. Both understand Audrey’s drive to be or have the best of everything.
Mal purses her lips in thought. “I think, if I were to teach anything, it would be art, but I’m not sure I’d be good at it. I think I’m much better at creating my own with that then trying to explain to others how to do it,” she comments, chuckling to herself.
“Well I bet you could teach art. I haven’t seen any of your work yet, but I’m sure you’re good.” Evie smirks, not meeting Mal’s gaze.
Mal perks an eyebrow, “Oh yeah? What makes you so sure?”
“At breakfast, I could see the passion in your eyes when you were buried in your sketchbook. You were really absorbed in your work. People who are that intense about their art are always ridiculously talented.” Evie finally turns to look Mal’s way, surprised to see a light flush on her cheeks. “Besides,” she adds, “anyone actually considering teaching art must really love it.” Mal nods at that, a small snicker escaping her lips.
“Well I’m not sure that would make me a good artist or teacher, but I’ll let you see some of my art soon enough. Then you can tell me if you were right to give me such high praise already.”
“I’d love that,” Evie replies with breathy excitement. “But I already know I’m not wrong.”
Mal smiles and tips her head down as they walk, leaning to bump into Evie’s shoulder. She stumbles with a giggle, bumping Mal back even harder, and she jerks her head up in surprise at Evie’s strength.
Suddenly, a high-pitched squeal has both girls shooting their gaze forward.
”Evie!!” They spot a colorful girl running towards them, with auburn curls piled high and arms outstretched. She squeals once more right before she pounces on the blue-haired girl.
Evie oomphs as the wind is knocked out of her, feeling tiny arms gripping her tightly just above her waist. She smiles as she pats the auburn hair, then leans forward to wrap her arms around the small girls back, encasing her in an awkward hug.
“My Dizzy,” she coos, planting a soft kiss to the top of her head.
Leap Of Faith- Ignis X Fem! S/O
The night air was filled with laughter and cheers, Lestallum was always bright at night, but with the long awaited Assassin’s festival underway it lit up more than just the sky but the moral of the people.
“Aw man, I can’t believe it’s finally here!”
“I know!”
“You guys seem excited…”
When they finally parked the boys made their way to one of the booths, “Look at all the costumes!” Prompto's eyes gleaming. “Please tell me we're dressing up!” Prompto shaking Noct’s arm.
He smirked, “You think I would miss the chance to?”
“Look there's a costume booth over there!” Prompto pointed, pulling the young prince along.
Ignis let out a heavy sigh shaking his head, “Like children.”
Gladio smiled, “Ah let them have their fun, Remember this is a break. Might as well enjoy ourselves.”
“I suppose...” Ignis crossed his arms.
“Hey isn’t your lady supposed to have met us by now?” Looking at the time on his phone.
Ignis adjusted his glasses, “She said she had a few things to take care of, She’ll be here momentarily.”
“Hey, guys! Get over here!” Prompto shouted over the crowd waving his arms.
Gladio shook his head, “Let’s go see what they want.”
Ignis frowned, “I think I know…”
_____________________________________________
After a few minutes at the costume counter, they headed back to the prize booth.
“There you guys are!” A woman's voice said happily, “I thought I was at-” She stopped staring at the boys with a surprised expression, “Oh...wow you guys look great!”
“I know right?” Prompto smiled posing in his outfit, “But Noct here decided to be a loner.” Putting his arm over Noct’s shoulder giving him a slight shake.
“Hey, can’t beat the original.” Noct smiled in his all white assassin’s outfit.
She giggled, “So uh is Ignis with you guys or..?”
“Yep, he’s just being shy.” Gladio teased giving Ignis a push forward.
“I-i’m Not, just a new sensation.” Unable to look at her folding his arms in a failed attempt to cover his exposed skin.
“You look so cool Ignis.” She said with a wide smile.
“See? She likes it, She can't take her eyes off you.”
She stumbled a bit wiping her chin in embarrassment, “What? Gladio?! I’m not…I’m just impressed you guys got a hold of the Medjays attire.” She mumbled.
Noct tilted his head, “You know the games?”
She shrugged, “Dabbled a bit.” Her eyes then looked to Ignis. He still wouldn’t look at her obviously not comfortable in his situation.
“Hey what are we standing around for we have a festival to explore!” Prompto exclaimed.
Noct smiled, and the two ran off into the crowd.
She fidgeted awkwardly, “Um...So I need to head to my booth; I’ll be back in an hour or so? We can all watch the leap of faith together?”
Ignis nodded, “Until then.”
She bit her lip and waiting a moment before turning and vanishing into the crowd.
Gladio shook his head, “You know she wanted you to kiss her right?”
Ignis’s head shot upward, “What are you talking about? We're in public.” He stated
Gladio rolled his eyes, “I’m not saying a full make out session just a good bye peck.”
Ignis’s brows furrowed making Gladio raise his hands in defense.
______________________________________
A half an hour went by Gladio had to leave to attend to his own affairs and Noct, and Prompto kept themselves occupied leaving Ignis to roam around himself. He stopped at one event where people attempted to cross pipes across rooftops; he watched for a fair amount of time (even took some notes) until a familiar voice caught his ear.
“Welcome to the Assassin’s festival!” They shouted.
Ignis turned following it until he came to another prize booth. The lady at the counter wearing an intricate Victorian style attire turned to him her face covered by her hood, “Welcome how can I-” She stopped fidgeting a bit, “How can I help you?” Her voice changed ever so slightly making him smirk in amusement.
“Yes, I was wondering about this attraction.” Pointing upwards.
“Oh, of course, the pipe walk is a test of balance and coordination. Make it to the end, and you can get up to 60 medallions!” She said happily.
Ignis stood shifting his weight a hand to his chin, “I see...-And what of that?” pointing again to something in the air.
She tilted her head confusingly leaning against the counter looking up until her hood slipped off her head making her freeze.
“Hello, darling.” Ignis smiled.
She gasped as she slowly pulled her hood back over her eyes, “Hey…”
“Why are you attempting to avoid me?”
She folded her hands on the counter, “I didn’t mean...I just know you don’t like the whole “Dressing up thing…”” She said quietly.
He looked at her confusingly, “I don’t mind it? You look rather ravishing.”
She ducked her head in embarrassment, “But you look so put off by it...So I thought if you saw me like this you...I don’t know.”
He chuckled, “I’m put off by what I’m wearing not the costume wearing itself.”
She gave an understanding nod, “If you're uncomfortable why don’t you change?”
He let out a breath, “The others were quite keen on doing these ones…”
“Well, those outfits are rare right now the game isn't even out yet.”
Ignis’s brow perked, “I have a feeling you “dabbled” a bit more in these games than you let on.”
She shrugged with an innocent smile.
“Hey, Evie! Your Shift is up; I can take it from here.” A man said entering the booth with a similarly styled attire as hers.
“Thanks.” She said grabbing her bag from under the counter and exited the stand.
“Evie?” Ignis questioned.
She laughed, “It’s my character's name the one I’m dressed as.” Giving a small spin to show off the outfit. "I was afraid I wasn’t going to finish it in time.”
He stopped, “You made that?” Looking at her with complete awe.
She laughed giving a few poses, “Impressed Scientia?”
He smirked, “Very.”
As they continued to walk the crowd began to thicken making it hard to stay together, It would be easier just to hold hands, but Ignis was not very fond of the gesture even if it was just to keep track of one another.
As soon as they escaped from the cramped crowd, an idea struck her, “So you said you don’t mind dressing up right?”
Ignis gave a quizzical look, “Should I dare ask why?”
“Trust me?” She smiled.
Ignis pondered it a moment but accepted, “Alright! Wait right here!” She exclaimed.
After a few minutes, she came running back with a clothes bag in hand, “Here try this one on instead! There is a changing area over there.” Pointing to a small booth.
Ignis stood awkwardly but made his way to the changing booth; He took quite a bit making her almost regret the decision until she felt a small tap on her shoulder, “Apologies for making you wait, there were... a lot of buckles.” Her eyes lit up “You. Look. Amazing!”
He stood more straight and less awkward still taking in the details of his attire, “And which one is this from?”
“The second game, and the best part.” She put her arms up around his neck bringing his hood over his eyes.
“Now no one knows it’s you.”
He chuckled a bit looking at himself in one of the tinted windows of a store, “Feel better in this one?” She asked.
“Yes.” He smiled.
_______________________________________________
They still had some time before meeting with the others spending most of the time walking around and enjoying the attractions.
“Ugh, it’s getting crowded again.” She sighed.
Ignis nodded, “Shall we go then?”
She let out a small groan knowing she was going to get tossed around in the crowd again as they got closer she braced for impact until a hand snaked its way into hers, “We’ll have a better chance getting by this way.” Ignis said holding her hand tightly as he guided them away from the crowd.
She was in shock staring at the man next to her and then glancing down to their cupped hands, For a moment she wondered if she grabbed hold of a stranger. “Ah, this looks much better.” He stopped, “Is something the wrong love?”
She shook her head, “No it’s nothing…” Her face completely red and thanking the six it was covered by her hood.
“Are you sure?” She could feel his grasp tighten ever so slightly.
“Positive, Come on! There are still some things left to see.”
It was so strange he was almost like an entirely different person, Not in a bad way just looser, relaxed even under the hood she could see his smile and his laugh seemed brighter.
While taking a small break at the cafe Ignis phone began going off, “Ah...it’s almost time to meet with the others.”
He took her hand once more as they approached the tower, “Hey they're over there.” She said pointing through the crowd. As soon as they saw the others, she felt his hand loosen and fall from hers.
Ignis removed his hood as they met up, “Ignis you changed?” Noct said.
He fidgeted a bit, “Ah yes…”
“It was my idea.” She said holding up a hand as she removed her hood.
Prompto's eyes went wide, “Hey looks like someone joined the brotherhood!”
She rolled her eyes shaking her head, her gaze then went to Ignis holding his hands behind his back his smile gone. The crowd started to erupt in cheers making everyone look up to see a person ready to take the leap, stretching their arms out and jumping off making the crowd gasp and shout before they landed safely.
“Aw man, that was awesome!” Noct said excitedly.
“Then why don’t you try it?” Prompto said giving him a nudge.
“You gonna do it with me?”
“What no way! I like my neck not broken.”
Noct chuckled, “Pansy.”
The crowd started to shift a bit as more people began to gather, she got pushed around making her bump into Ignis holding onto his arm, “Are you alright?” He asked bringing her closer to him and held her gently.
She nodded. Blushing at how close they are.
“Ooooh Look at you two showing some PDA.” Prompto remarked.
The two froze looking at each other before Ignis released her moving away, “Prompto…” Gladio grumbled.
Just then her phone began to ring, “Hello?....Yea...uh-huh….ugh, I told him not to eat that! Alright, I’ll be right there...” Hanging up, “Sorry guys, The guy helping at my booth just got sick….”
“That sucks…” Gladio said
“Don’t worry I’ll be back soon.” She smiled.
Gladio gave Ignis a small push forward, but he brushed it off and watched as she gave a tiny wave and left.
Gladio shook his head, “Strike two.” The comment made Ignis frown.
____________________________________
“Here you are! Congratulations.” She smiled giving a young boy his won eagle plushy.
She leaned on the counter noticing the couples walking by holding hands and enjoying each others company, she let out a heavy sigh feeling absolutely selfish, She would never want Ignis to feel uncomfortable but holding hands being close like that it just felt so nice, right... She rubbed her bottom lip as thoughts started to loom. A roar of cheers made her perk up looking up to see someone gracefully cross the pipes with ease.
Not long after they approached her booth placing a card on the counter making her eyes go wide, “Oh Wow, you were fantastic; Congratulations! Seriously I’ve never seen someone with this kind of time!”
“Would you like to trade your medallions for a prize?”
They nodded, shifting a bit before quickly removing their hood; she stood in shock as he guided his hand under her chin gently bringing her forward her hood slipping from her head as their eyes met for a split second before their lips touched.
It was gentle, soft and quick and oh so perfect.
He gave a warm expression, "I'll see you later." as he pulled his hood over his gleaming green eyes a broad smile still on his face as he disappeared into the crowd.
She slowly drew her hood over her still shocked face turning into a smile of her own.
“By the six...I love him.”
Can you do the ship meme for Jane x anyone you want?
1.Whois the most affectionate?:
Jane.
Likeall the other times I’ve mentioned her, Mal has been constantlydrilled that showing any sort of affection or care for other peopleis the worst kind of weakness you can ever show, and the scarsand traumas of Maleficent’s shitty parenting take a LONG while toheal.
2.Bigspoon/Little spoon?:
Malis big spoon, Jane is little spoon.
Asidefrom the fact that Mal starts naturally producing dragon fire and iswarm and cozy to snuggle up to at night, Mal feels much morecomfortable being the “protector” of the two, and Jane is morethan happy to have someone beside her to fend off the anxieties andnightmares.
3.Mostcommon argument?:
Whetheror not to do something in public.
Janeslowly loses her social anxieties as evidenced by her becoming partof the cheerleading squad and having her face out rather than hiddenin the Fighting Knight part of the school mascot, but she’s stillVERY reluctant to do many things where people can see her and judgeher, even if most people really couldn’t care.
Itdoesn’t really help that, willingly or not, Mal becomes one of themost public faces for VK reform in Auradon, along with her artneeding publicity and attention from the media to actually turn aprofit.
4.Favoritenon-sexual activity?:
Youwould think it’s Jane braiding and styling Mal’s hair, you’d bewrong.
Withthis specific pair, it’s actually hanging in just their underwearin Jane’s room, and eventually, their own brownstone apartment thatthey have all to themselves. Jane has suffered a lot of socialanxieties and expectations foisted upon her, not the least of whichwas the conservative ideals of Auradon that says that even in theprivacy of your room, you should be decent should someone happen tocome by for a chat.
It’sa form of rebellion for her to be this free and shameless about hersexuality and her body, long sources of shame and distress for her asAuradon has very little room for experimentation, expression, orfreedom in general.
“Ican dance in just my underwear, and I don’t ever feel like there’sinvisible eyes watching me! It’s great!”
Malhas a different brand of issues, in that the public takes greatoffense to whenever she is “daring” or “VK” here in Auradon,and it has bred an even stronger distaste in her for theirconservative values. Also, you couldn’t really walk around in yourunderwear in the Isle, if you had the choice—“it’s cold, it’sgrimy, and there’s PLENTY of things you do NOT want to step inwithout a slipper, at the least.”
Onan incidental note, this is why the two of them get rather hot andbothered when in the presence of silly print panties, particularlystyles similar to the ones they already own.
AndYES, Mal still has the green baby dragon print panties. Jane’s iswhite with baby blue “bow tie butterflies.”
5.Whois most likely to carry the other?:
Mal,with Jane.
Thereare many days where Jane just doesn’t want to do anything anymore,and Mal makes it a point that her girlfriend gets home safely or tosomewhere she can rest and recharge where there isn’t noise,people, or inquisitive reporters bothering her.
6.Whatis their favorite feature of their partner’s?:
Mal’seyes are an endless source of fascination for Jane. She really likesthe draconic quality they can take when she’s angry or excited, andthat she can read so much of her emotions and feelings from her eyes,not that that means much because Jane has fairy empathy and can tellexactly what she feels at any moment.
Onthe flipside, Mal finds herself REALLY into Jane’s body, becauseshe’s been so conservative and reserved about it, and now thatshe’s willingly and subtly changing it into something less “basic”and much more shapely, curvy, and full-figured (like a younger,sexier version of Fairy Godmother’s original form and her currentshape), she finds herself frequently accidentally setting things onfire when jets of flame shoot out of her nostrils when her internaltemperature gets too much.
Beforeyou ask, Jane has mastered basic fire suppression magic, and takes itas the clearest sign that the outfit or look is a “Yes, please.”
7.What’sthe first thing that changes when they realize they have feelings forthe other?:
Maland Jane are both incredibly socially awkward and avoidant when itcomes to this thing called “feelings,” and probably spend a longwhile trying to intentionally avoid each other, and accidentally runinto each other because they both happen to figure out “What’sthe least likely place I’m going to run into Jane/Mal?”, gothere, and irony runs its course.
It’seven worse that they now they can’t use the “I just so happenedto be at our usual haunts at the same time as you” excuse becausethere’s really no reason Jane nor Mal would ever be at a make-upstore without Evie helping them navigate and fend off the, ah,‘highly enthusiastic’ store clerks and product reps.
8.Nicknames?& if so, how did they originate?:
Mal’sare “My Little Space Heater” after said internal dragon firedevelops thanks to magic exposure, “Blaze” because she keepsaccidentally setting things on fire whenever she’s turned on, and“Vi” as in “violet,” one of her many preferred shades ofpurple.
Jane’sare “Bo” as in bow tie because of Jane’s preference for them,“Mom” used jokingly whenever she’s scolding Mal or trying toget her to act more mature, and “Mistress” when they’re gettingkinky.
9.Whoworries the most?:
Jane.
Malis no calm, collected, and anxiety-free individual herself, but Janeis just the much more severe train wreck.
10.Whoremembers what the other one always orders at a restaurant?:
Jane,by virtue of infallible fairy memory.
11.Whotops?:
Jane.
12.Whoinitiates kisses?:
Jane.
Again,Mal is awkward about asking for physical intimacy and kisses, letalone initiating them, so Jane just preemptively showers her withlove.
13.Whoreaches for the other’s hand first?:
Jane.
Shedecides to be more daring with Mal, because she’s got limited timeto make a move on her (284 years at the least, give or take), andbecause she tires of the game of avoidance and awkward coincidencesthat happen after they first realize they’re gay for each other.
14.Whokisses the hardest?:
Mal.
Initiatingkisses? Terrible at it. Getting going once they’re actually firedup? There is very literal smoke when they break away, and possiblysinge marks to the beginnings of raging fires on nearby surfaces andflammable objects.
15.Whowakes up first?:
Mal,caveat that Jane never really sleeps.
16.Whowants to stay in bed just a little longer?:
Jane.
Outsideof her room is where all her anxieties live.
17.Whosays I love you first?:
Jane,with the caveat that it was said far too fast for Mal to understand,before the incident for questions 29-30 happen.
18.Wholeaves little notes in the other’s one lunch? (Bonus: what does itusually say?):
Jane.
19.Whotells their family/friends about their relationship first?:
Mal,because Jane is evasive and unwilling to open up to Fairy Godmothergiven how terrible all the other times went. It was also REALLY easyfor Mal to talk to a sentient lizard in a terrarium incapable ofspeaking, and just tell her friends that she’s dating a differentAK.
Again,it’s no surprise for VKs to hear that someone’s with someone newall of a sudden, and Mal was already the precedent for dating acrossthe culture line.
20.Whatdo their family/friends think of their relationship?:
Maleficentis disappointed as usual that her daughter has been fully purified bythe Auradonians, fallen in “true love” twice, and is evenmore a disappointment to her for the rest of all of eternity.
FairyGodmother is of two minds about this, because Jane is unquestionablyhappier and more confident, but she’s also becoming muchmore daring, scandalous, and adventurous in her daily life. It’skind of like FG’s the highly conservative single mother raising agood, rule-abiding, and decent child, who is now dating a girl whowears tattoos and leather jackets with pride, frequently breaks thelaw either intentionally or as a consequence of the trouble that isattracted to her like a super-powered magnet, and smokes—both inthe “dragon fire” sense, and the “weird and wonderful world ofrecreational drugs” sense.
AsI said, the VKs are non-plussed about it: Mal has already definedherself as the kind that consorts with the AKs after her famousrelationship with Ben, and again, they haven’t really cared muchabout other people’s relationships unless it enables or preventsthem from getting what they want or need day-to-day.
TheAKs are rather surprised that Jane would be dating Mal, of allpeople, and it throws all of their preconceptions about Jane for aloop, especially once they catch word of all the new things she’sdoing with her newfound confidence and girlfriend.
“HaveI really changed? Am I being corrupted? Or was I always like this,it’s just that I always pushed this side of me away? Whatever thecase, this is who I am now, and this is who I will be for theforeseeable future, because I like this me, and if you don’t?
“Well,you can just go fuck yourself! … Oh my gosh—I’m so sorry Icursed! But yeah, my point still stands...”
21.Whois more likely to start dancing with the other?:
Inprivate, Jane.
She’salways had a habit of dancing to songs on the radio or from theinternet when she’s alone in her room and there’s really nothingbetter to do.
Inpublic,
Mal.Aside from the one that she’s always taking the lead due topersonality and the difference in heights between them, she’s theone who’s not paralyzed by the thought of so many people seeing herdo something like dancing.
“Justfocus on me, okay?” Mal says, Jane does, and the just have fun onthe dance floor.
22.Whocooks more/who is better at cooking?:
Jane.
She’shad vastly more experience, and for Mal, “cooking was never reallya thing unless you were trying to roast a rat to make it tastesomewhat better, or get rid of poisonous bits neutralized by fire.”
23.Whocomes up with cheesy pick up lines?:
Jane,surprisingly enough.
“DoI smell smoke?” is frequently used whenever she’s sending naughtySnapchats or intentionally riling Mal up.
24.Whowhispers inappropriate things in the other’s ear duringinappropriate times?:
Jane,again.
She’ssteadily becoming more daring and confident now that she realizesthat Auradon’s conservative standards are a choice, not theonly “right” way to be in this world. She’s still frequentlynervous when she does it, and it’s very rare, but HOO DAMNdoes it catch Mal off-guard.
“It’slike a tiny adorable kitten just staring up at you with big, wideeyes, and going ‘Fuck you!’ it just can’t not throw youoff!”
25.Whoneeds more assurance?:
Jane,once again.
It’swhy Mal is always there to hold her while she’s seated in her lap,remind her that she’s stronger than she thinks she is, much morethan her appearance, and that she’s always going to be there forher.
26.Whatwould be their theme song?:
“BodyImage” by Tupperware Remix Party.
“Weare as beautiful as our flaws.”
27.Whowould sing to their child back to sleep?:
Mal.
Shehas the nicer singing voice, Jane thinks, and it’s good practicefor her to start being more comfortable with the idea of openlyshowing affection and vulnerability to another person.
28.Whatdo they do when they’re away from each other?:
Malhangs out with her friends, goes to “underground” events byherself or with her VK/more adventureous AK friends, and of course,works solo on her art, her preferred past time now that she doesn’tprioritize “being Evil.”
Janeplays video games, reads, does her other hobbies like cooking andgardening, explores nature, and practices her magic discretely.
29.oneheadcanon about this OTP that breaks your heart:
Jane’sconfession to Mal was during one of their twice monthly hang-outs inher room, practicing magic on the down-low as the ban was still ineffect at the time. Since Mal gave up her spellbook after the eventsof “Rise of the Isle of the Lost,” the two have resorted to goingaround looking for scraps of spells and old magical tomes, Jane beingthe better of the two because she is used to scouring dusty, mustylibraries for something new to read, and knows exactly where shehasn’t looked before.
Janetells Mal that she stumbled upon a very interesting, high-levelspell, a rarity considering so many of them are very tightly sealed,and leaks like this (by conspiracy or accident) were a rarity. “It’sa time-stop spell: freezes the entire world except you, so you’refree to do whatever you like as long as it’s in effect.”
Janeclarifies that at their experience and power levels, neither of themcan do more than just two-four seconds of frozen time, and the effectis just on their surrounding area—say, the size of Jane’s rathersmall room—but Mal is excited nonetheless.
Malarrives that Saturday at Janes’ room. The curtains are drawn, thedoor is locked, and they make sure that the nearly deserted hallsleading to it aren’t about to have anyone even passing by anytimesoon. They crack open Jane’s copy and notes of the spell, and startreading it, deciphering the missing pieces, and how to actually castthe damn thing.
Fictionmakes magic look so easy, but the spells are actually like “one-pressapps”: a collection of numerous interlocking, smaller spells andparameters and effects that have been collected, compiled, and givenan easy “key” so the magician doesn’t need to cast every singleone of those enchantments individually.
BecauseJane was the one to find such a treasure, she gets the honour oftrying to cast it first, and she does.
Toher surprise, it works—the world is completely frozen around her,everything from her furniture, the walls and the floors, and Malherself in an odd, baby blue hue like Jane’s magic. She’sobviously giddy that she managed such a powerful spell, instinctivelytelling Mal that it worked, before she realizes that she can’treact to or do anything in her current state.
Andthen an idea pops into Jane’s mind, a fleeting thought she’d beenpushing away several times, something she’d been reminding herselfthat she could not do because of the consequences, because it was notthe Right thing to do, but kept worming its way back to Jane’s mindover and over again, persistently clawing and fighting till it’s atthe very front and unavoidable.
Shehesitates for a moment, before she darts forward and kisses Mal onthe lips.
Becauseof her unique brain structure and how fast it can process everything,all of the debating, the pushing back, and the committing to adecision takes less than a second. Moving faster than she normallydoes, pressing her lips against Mal’s takes another. Registeringand enjoying the sensation of kissing Mal—lips scarred and chappedand not quite healed, with a hardness and roughness you just didn’tfind here in sunny and upper class Auradon Prep—and of finallyfinding an answer to the question of she would enjoy it (she does)takes two.
Andwith that, the haze is sucked back into Jane in a snap, and Mal isabout to open her mouth and ask if it worked before she realizesthere’s a pair of soft andquivering lipson hers that definitelyisn’t from anyone she’s ever kissed before.
Janeslowly opens her eyes, and when they notice Mal’s looking straightback at her, they shoot wide open. She pulls back so quickly shefalls onto her back, crawls away on her hands and feet.
Malblinks. “Jane…?” she asks.
Janecan’t stop time again, not with all these alarming thoughts andpredictions for the future and realizations about the full gravity ofher mistake bearing down on her. But, with the inhuman speeds she’scapable of, she can disappear into her closet before Mal is evenaware that she’s moved.
Malblinks again. “Jane!” she cries as she scrambles up.
Janeis inside her closet, moving aside boxes, old props, and schoolprojects, before she opens up one of the secret tunnels leading outof her room, a remnant of Auradon Prep from when it was a Duke’s“summer castle” that had escaped the filling and collapsingefforts. She hears Mal banging on the door outside, she pulls openthe hatch, crawls in, and shuts it behind her just as quickly.
Malputs her foot to the door, trying to kick it down, but the solidlybuilt, ancient hardwood isn’t the rotten and pest-infested planksshe’s used to. She curses under her breath as she scours her memoryfor an unlocking spell, before she just decides to go with theeasier, more direct approach:
Boom.
Thelock flies out, and crashes to the floor with a noisy clang. Theforce of the blast knocks over much of Jane’s stuff, making itcollapse over the secret tunnel and hiding her escape. Mal runs intoher walk-in closet, looks around, and starts digging through all herbelongings, trying to find where someone like her can squeeze in.
“Jane?”Mal asks as she searches. “Jane! Jane, where are you…?”
Insidethe tunnel, Jane cowers and hides, holding her breath for as long asit takes for Mal to give up and leave, ignoring the creepy crawlies,the dust, the fungus, and what else has found its way into this longabandoned tunnel in who knows how long.
Unfortunately,there’s no ignoring the voice in her head, quietly whispering thesame words over and over again, a familiar tune from her “childhood”:
“Youfucked up, you fucked up, you fucked up...”
Malshows up the day after, knocking on her door, asking if she’s homeevery once in a while, sending her texts and attempting to call her,but Jane just holds her breath again, pretends she’s not in, turnedoff her phone so her ringtone or the vibration of it on anythingwouldn’t give her away.
Becauseof her history with numerous social anxieties, she’s allowed totake attend her classes remotely, submitting homework, make-uprecitations, and attendance activities, even if her teachersencourage her to please come back to class, and her other friendssometimes drop by with her homework and group projects, rather thansending her digital copies.
Allthey really can do is just slid it under the door, or leave itoutside, wait for Jane to have it sent to them by all manner of meansthat don’t require her to show up in person—one of Carlos’flying drone projects, discretely teleporting them into her room, orenlisting the help of woodland creatures to whisk them away for her.
Theonly time she really does leave her room is when it’s time for hermonthly dinner with Fairy Godmother, falling on a Wednesday as usual.
Asyou might expect, FG is a very busy woman, being personallyresponsible for the supervision, growth, and development of most ofthe children of most of the monarchs in Auradon, who will becomefuture Kings and Queens themselves. It hasn’t left much time forher to attend to Jane, to say the least, but she made it a point toalways have certain times of the year and out of every month tocompletely, fully devote to Jane, where nothing short of arealm-threatening disaster can take her attention away.
Asmuch as Jane appreciates the thought and the spirit of it, however,like everything with her mother, it’s a mixed bag.
“So,I heard you haven’t been showing up to your classes again...”Fairy Godmother starts after that night’s dinner has beenserved—Chinese style steamed vegetable wraps.
“...”Jane idly picks up her chopsticks, her face cast down at her plate.
“Doyou want to talk about it?” Fairy Godmother asks.
“...”Jane pauses for a moment, her chopsticks held up in the air, beforeshe shakes her head, still not looking at FG.
FairyGodmother sighs. “Jane… I’ll admit I haven’t been the bestmother to you, especially now that all your friends are teens andyou’re all going through an incredibly rough period in yourlives—and that’s without the VKs.
“Butplease, could you confide in me whatever it is that you’re goingthrough right now? I can’t magic it away like I used to, but thatdoesn’t mean I’m completely helpless to help you!”
“Yesyou are,” Jane thinks to herself, while she says “I canhandle it on my own, mom.”
FairyGodmother sighs. “There’s no shame in asking for help, you know.”
“Iknow...” Jane says as she carefully tears apart a chunk of herwrap, watching the steam pour out of the seam and the vegetablesspill out.
FairyGodmother closes her eyes, and opens them again. “I’ve said itbefore, I’ll say it again: it’s best you tackle problems as soonas you can, because they tend to get worse the longer you wait.”
Janemakes a non-committal sound as she forks it into her mouth—hermother’s cooking is delicious as always, a perk of having eternityto master her domestic skills and twenty years to go all out inpracticing it, but it’s going to take more than good food to makeall these bad feelings go away.
30.oneheadcanon about this OTP that mends it:
Saturdayonce more.
Thelock in Jane’s closet has been put back into place, the damageundone with Carlos’ help and objective, infallible knowledge of theexact look of the paint and wood so not even Fairy Godmother would beany the wiser as to what happened to it, the dislodged contents alsorearranged for good measure.
Thecurtains are open, what sunlight she gets from this secluded part ofthe castle is streaming in, all is quiet and peaceful and no one isaround for miles, just how Jane likes it.
Orrather, how she’s supposed to like it.
Whenthe time rolls around that Mal was supposed to arrive and the two ofthem would practice magic together, Jane is all too aware thatthere’s going to be none of her or that, she feels restless,uneasy, a great gnawing inside of her that just can’t be ignored,and will not be ignored.
Janeis used to discomfort, to anxiety, to worry, but this is on a wholenew level. From years and years of having to feel others emotions,and having to name them and understand them to keep herself fromgoing insane, she knows what this feeling is, the scourge of thosewho were innocent children once, the eternal bane of anyone who hasever lived, the muse of so much of the pop songs and poetry thatAuradon Kids produce:
Heartbreak.
Itonly takes her mind a split second to comprehend all of this, but ittakes her hours still to take action, wallowing in her pain, suddenlysympathetic to every single person who has ever claimed or shown thatthey simply couldn’t move on. Night falls, and whereas mostpeople’s weekend plans had either come to a close or were about tobegin, Jane has wasted this particular Saturday with the people andthe society she’s known so far in her entire existence doingnothing.
Andat the stroke of eight o’clock in the evening, she finally hasenough and takes action.
Therewill be many more Saturdays for her, for as long as reality existed,but there would be only so many Saturdays she could spend with Mal.
Sheheads out of her room, and proceeds to break a personal rule of hersand a strong suggestion of her mother by going down the halls atinhuman speed, a sudden, mysterious breeze to all she passes by untilshe goes slow enough for mortal eyes just before she reaches Mal andEvie’s door.
There’sa part of her that says that she should just keep on going, make afull circle around the campus before ending back at her room, goingdown the opposite side of the hallway she always took, but there’smuch more of her that’s tired of the inaction.
Janeknocks.
Evieanswers. She hides her surprise well, but no poker face can match themight of Faerie Empathy. “Jane! Hi! What’s up…?”
“CanI talk to Mal?” Jane replies. “It’s really important.”
Thistime, the facade breaks, if only a little. “She’s out. Probablywon’t be back until past midnight.”
“Oh.”Jane said. “Do you happen to know where she went?”
“Idon’t know exactly, but I’ll bet anything she’s goingtagging,” Evie says.
Janesmiles politely. “Thanks, Evie.” She turns to leave, Evie beginsto close the door.
“Wait!Jane!”
Janeturns around. Evie opens the door again and holds out her phone.“Carlos made a tracker app for all our phones, so we could findeach other in case of trouble,” she says as she shows her just howto access it. “It’s only got half-a-mile or so of range, but it’sbetter than nothing.”
Janesmiles as she takes it, carefully cradles it in her hand. “Thankyou, Evie. I’ll give it back later!”
“Hurryif you can!” Evie said. “I’ll have to take selfies and vlogswith my webcam till then, and there’s only so many angles and shotsyou can make with that.”
“Iwill!” Jane says, before she leaves once more, Evie’s phonecradled safely in her hands.
Shebreaks a different rule as she heads off, a much more serious onethat could land her in jail, but the Guards were not as keen ondetecting rogue magic use as they were back then, and it’s a simplematter to hide the natural gossamer glow and reflective surface ofher wings as she flies, atop the condos and the parks, past thecorporate headquarters and the shopping complexes, beyond theMcCastles and the nigh identical houses of the suburbs, to theforgotten part of Auradon City, the first district and the first everto die:
MarigoldStreet.
Sheflies over old industrial parks with rusting construction equipment,hollowed out factories with boards over the doors and windows andfences around the perimeters, and long-abandoned “affordable”housing with concrete sidewalks cracked, trees long dead if theyweren’t reduced to stumps, and community gardens overgrown andwild.
Thankfully,there are no guards or dogs here, everything of value long salvagedor rotten past usefulness, and whatever technology Carlos had used intheir trackers worked better in the air, where at least one half ofthe signal couldn’t get blocked by the all the inches-thickconcrete and steel everywhere.
Shefound Mal in the middle of spraypainting the side of a warehouse. Theelectricity grid had long decayed and been cut-off by every powercompany in the city aside, but the glow of an LED camping light letMal work and Jane see the design, several paintings in sequence:
Ababy purple dragon, walking along by happily, until it sees a prettybaby blue bowtie butterfly, stares at it in wonder, jumps up into theair, flapping its tiny little wings and hovers beside it for a fewseconds, before it crashes to the ground, right on its tiny scalyface.
Malwas in the middle of blocking out the baby dragon back on the ground,when Jane cleared her throat.
Maljumped, holding up the spraycan like it was a gun, her whole bodytensed and ready for combat, her green eyes narrowed and giving Janethe harshest glare she was capable of. They quickly widened andturned terrified as she recognized who the intruder was.
“Jane?!”Mal sputtered. “How did you--?!”
Janeheld out her hands, Evie’s phone in one of them, the screen turnedout to her. Mal looked surprised, before she slowly, reluctantlyrelaxed her pose.
“… Whatdo you want?” she asked.
“I’msorry,” Jane said. “I’m sorry I took advantage of you andkissed you while you were under the effects of that time stop spell.I know you still probably hate me and don’t want to be friends withme anymore, but I--”
Malheld up her hand. Jane stopped.
“Jane?First up, I don’t hate you for kissing me while I was frozen intime; that’s WAY far from the worst thing anyone’s ever done tome while I was helpless, nor is it something that really rings alarmbells inside my head anymore.
“Andsecond, I don’t hate you, but I do hate the fact thatyou avoided me like that. I’m the VK here, I’m the onewho’s supposed to be running away from my problems, damn it!”
Janewinces, and hangs her head. “Sorry for that. Again. I promise, nomore running—I want to make things up to you. I want us to befriends again. Or just cool with each other, if that’s as far asyou’ll let me.”
Maltakes a deep breath, and lets it go slowly. “Do you remember thewords for the spell?”
“Ido,” Jane says—it was a trivial task when you couldn’t forgetanything.
Shesays the words to Mal without the deliberate concentration, thechanneling of her magic, or the movements that made bending the lawsof reality as we knew it all the easier, rendering the incantationharmless and inert.
“Thanks,”Mal says, before she raises her hands and quickly casts it.
Whenthe world unfreezes, Jane is suddenly aware of lips pulling away fromher, their owner’s eyes closed.
Malopens her eyes again, none the wiser. “There. Now that’s a coupleof seconds of your life where you don’t know what the helljust happened.”
Janetries to hide her reaction, but she was never one for being subtle.
Malfrowns and blushes. “… Did it not work on you…?”
“Itwore off just as you pulled away...” Jane confesses.
Maltakes in a quick breath through her nose. “Well then. Shit.”
“… Doyou want to try that again—kissing, I mean? Without the time stopspells or the secrecy.”
Malshrugs, uneasy. “I dunno… do you?”
“Yes,I do… so, do you?”
Malthinks for a few seconds. “Yeah. Yeah I do.”
Sothe two of them awkwardly step up to each other, not quite sure whatto do with their hands so they just keep them at their sides as theylean in closer, closing their eyes as soon as they’re sure theirlips are aligned, and for a brief two seconds, the two of them knowwhat it’s like to kiss the hard and scarred mouth of a VK and thesoft and quivering mouth of a nervous wreck of an AK when both sideswere kissing back.
AndJane had to admit, it was way better than that stolen kisswas.
Theybreak away as they hear one of Evie’s ringtones. It’s from anumber neither of them recognize, which is as good a sign as any thatthey need to return to Auradon ASAP. They stay a while to completethe grafitti on the wall, though, with the last of the sequence ofpaintings:
Thedragon, looking sadly at the bowtie butterfly still up in the air.
Itseyes widening in surprise as the butterfly flutters down to itslevel.
Thetwo of them walking off into the distance, side by side, happy ascould be.
Guest Speaker: Georgia Baul - Russel & Styling Activity
Today Louise had organised for a guest speaker to come in and talk about what it’s like to be a stylist, this was a very exciting opportunity to me to properly understand what a stylist does and the process they take during every shoot. Georgia gave us some tips about styling which were very useful, I hadn't considered any of these before and she explained it’s what makes a shoot run smoothly and to your vision. For a big shoot involving lots of people she explained its key to bring visuals (how you want the hair, make-up etc) in order to fit your vision and plans, she also explained that she likes every model to bring a piece (jewellery, clothing etc) that they love. This makes the shoot more personal, rather than using any old model it creates a story for that person making the outcome more engaging to viewers. This is something I hadn't considered but I think is key, I will be making sure every model I use throughout my project has an aspect that represents them in order to tell their story better which, my project aims to do. Georgia then gave us some tips on how to approach future clients and tips on what our emails should include when emailing clients, she also mentioned loads of photographers, stylists and creative directors whose work was with looking into. This will help my research process, giving me a head start on where to look.
Georgia then set up a styling activity which I was really excited to do, this will act as a practise trial to see what works and what I need to improve on for when I start my project. She gave each group a white shirt and asked us to create three looks using just a white shirt and some fabrics and accessories provided. Georgia previously said that each shoot needs a story so I decided to make each look based on each of my friends own personal style to make the shoots more personal.
For Evie’s shoot we based it on skater style, something Evie loves and gets into. We went with layers for this look, starting with the white shirt as a base we then layered her jumper she was wearing before hand. We made the shirt loose and free to represent how skaters feel when they're on their boards, we paired it with a black beanie hat to match her jumper and a gold chain that dangled down her thighs on top of her jeans. For location we struggled to find the best lighting, we found the stairs had the best natural lighting brightening Evie and her surroundings. Although, we found that the stairs and the number 2 in the back was similar to a tower block stairs giving the image an urban inner-city vibe which I felt represented skater youth and youth in general really well. I really enjoyed this shoot and trying to get images from different angles and moving the clothing to aid this was god fun to me however, to make this shoot better I would've liked to incorporate more accessories such as bags and props such as a skateboard, cigarette packets on the floor to make the outfit come to life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For Mani’s shoot we based it on spring/summer themes to match what her usual style is at this time. For this theme we decided to use delicate and feminine colours that would associate with floral themes and ideas which, link well to spring/summer trends. We started with the white shirt and tied it up at the bottom to expose Mani’s torso slightly, this gave it a baggy and oversized look to represent free flowing vibes S/S looks on the runway give. With the shirt being oversized the crop the tie at the bottom brought back a feminine feel to the shirt linking nicely with our theme. We then decided to make a skirt using a bit of fabric we found, with limited resources we opted for this fabric because the colour was closest to the feminine and S/S theme we had envisioned. We wrapped it around Mani and pinned it at the back and side to get the fabric to sit ruffled and layered around, we went with a warp round skirt based on the wrap round midi skirt that is on trend currently. We also incorporated a slide slit in the skirt to emphasise the summerery and feminine vibe we were going for. We also added some gold jewellery to make sure the top half of the outfit wasn't too plain. We struggled to get the skirt to sit up right on Mani, because the fabric was too heavy the clips didn't give a tight enough grip causing the skirt to become loose and hang. Overall, I’m pleased with how this look went but I feel we should photograph this kind of outfit outside to emphasise the S/S feel. Unfortunately we count do this as it was pouring with rain outside but is something I’d like to see and try next time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For Emma’s shoot we based it on her style as well as incorporating natural cool toned colours. For this outfit we folded the shirt to make a bandeau and tied it around Emma creating a big ruffled bow at the back, we felt this went really well with Emma’s simplistic trousers she already had on. The main focus point of this outfit is the detailing at the back, we went with a simplistic theme in order to draw the immediate attention to the detailing at the back. We found that the toilets had the best aesthetic to match Emma’s outfit, the colours of the tiles matched the colours in her outfit really well. We placed her right by the mirror to make sure we wouldn't get the toilet in the shot but her reflection in the mirror made a really nice effect , we felt this drew attention to the outfit better because you can see it from two different angles. We also decided to get some shots at the bottom of the stairs to get an all white background and se how that looked, it ended up working really well. It completely gave the simplistic theme we were going for, it drew all the attention to the outfit whilst complimenting the outfit and the colours really well. Next time I would like to have more resources to ensure that the outfit isn't too simplistic although, it turned out really well and exactly how we envisioned it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I really enjoyed the styling task set by Georgia, It was a good practise run to see what works and what doesn't in certain situations. I’m impressed with how well our group did with limited resources, It was also interesting for me to try out the photography side of this task which will be helpful during my project. I’m really grateful for the opportunity Louise provided by inviting Georgia to come and chat with us, I know feel much more confident to start my own styling project.
Maleficent “Mal” Bertha
Tumblr media
Face-claim: Dove Cameron
Status: semi-active
Biography:
Lady Maleficent "Mal" Bertha is half-fairy, and the main protagonist from the Disney Channel films Descendants and Descendants 2 She is the daughter of Maleficent.
As a natural born leader, Mal takes charge of carrying out her mother's evil plan to steal the Fairy Godmother's magic wand and enjoys drawing and casting spells, as she feels they’re needed.
As the movies progress, Mal lets go of much of her fears and goals, becoming in tune with her true self; thus she abandons the hollow life of evil, for a life of being good. With friendship and love, Mal ended filling the hole in her heart that couldn't be satisfied through what her mother had taught her.
Mal is a sneaky, smart, and ruthless girl who is a natural born leader and skilled at artistic things involving spray paint. Though she is compassionate to a degree she is also vengeful and doesn't forgive others easily. She is artistic and has a knack for casting spells, but only if needed. As the daughter of Maleficent, she wants to be like her mother: pure evil. Yet whenever she tries to prove herself to her mother, she often disappoints her instead.
But she does enjoy coming up with evil plans and is the most feared at her previous school because of her reputation. She isn't fond of beautiful surroundings or anything pink and finds them to be horrid, but she does sometimes wonder about how life would be off the island. Despite this, she is not necessarily immoral; she is just misguided. Her "mean girl" facade is an act because she does not want to be seen as weak in her mother's eyes; being one is the only way she is respected by Maleficent, who never cared about Mal. Ben is the only person who saw through Mal's act (including herself), and saw her for who she was, a good person and he is the only one who knows Mal's middle name. She also tends to be overly-sarcastic.
In the prelude novel, Mal is introduced as the daughter of Maleficent, the worst of the villains. Mal was born and raised in the Isle of the Lost, along with her mother, best friends and their parents. One evening, Mal dreams of being in Auradon on the edge of a beautiful lake with the soon-to-be-king Ben (to whom she did not know).
She doesn't always do so well in school, except for Advance Evil Schemes and Nasty Tricks taught by Lady Tremaine. For her Ultimate Project she chose to humiliate Evie in which she fails to do. However, when Diablo was reanimated and informs Maleficent of the return of magic to the fairy's staff, Maleficent instructs Mal to retrieve it to prove herself evil. Mal convinces Jay, Evie and Carlos to get the staff back from the Forbidden Fortress in the Isle of the Doomed, an area near the Isle. She saves Evie from getting cursed by the staff at the cost of the the staff losing its magic once returned to Maleficent. Afterwards, the four teens become friends.
In Descendants, Mal is first seen spray painting a brick city wall. Then, she and her friends wreak havoc across an area of the Isle of the Lost. ("Rotten to the Core") After taking a lollipop from a toddler, her mother Maleficent comes. She gives the news that the four have been chosen to attend Auradon Prep. She gives the four a task to steal the Fairy Godmother's wand, and hands over her spellbook to Mal. When they arrive at Auradon Prep, they are welcomed by the Fairy Godmother and Prince Ben, who made the decree that they be given a chance to live among them. Audrey, Ben's girlfriend and the daughter of Aurora, is unwelcoming and rude. Mal and Audrey exchange awkward looks, before Audrey takes Ben away.
Mal and Evie become roommates to a room Mal finds "gross," but what Evie actually really loves. At night, the two girls enter Jay and Carlos' dorm room while Jay and Carlos were enjoying they almost forgot what they are here for then Mal tells that it is their one chance to prove their parents that they are evil.
Then they went to the museum after knowing where the wand is being held. Mal successfully puts the guard into a deep sleep, and they go look for the wand. They enter a room, which contains statues of their parents; Mal stays behind, having a vision of her mother encouraging her to go through with the plan to steal the wand. ("Evil Like Me") They find the wand, but Jay accidentally sets off the alarm when trying to take the wand. They narrowly escape, thanks to Carlos reporting the alarm as a malfunction.
The next day, they have school; Mal aces Remedial Goodness as it's a no-brainer what answer good guys would choose. Jay and Carlos are in the Tourney team, and Evie is asked out by Chad Charming. Mal befriends Jane, Fairy Godmother's daughter, to get the wand; she plays on Jane's insecurities about being pretty by making her hair more beautiful. Lonnie, Mulan's daughter, asks Mal to change her hair to a cool style likes her; Mal reluctantly agrees, since Lonnie will pay $50 and Evie needs more material for sewing her outfits.
Finding out the wand will be used in the coronation, Mal hatches a plan to become Ben's girlfriend to get close to the wand, since only his folks and girlfriend get to stand up front. She begins baking a love spell into a batch of cookies; however, she finds that a tear of true sadness is the only ingredient missing. Lonnie bothers her (other girls want Mal to change their hair as well), and Mal reveals that the parents on the Isle of the Lost never showed them anything like love before when Lonnie remembers when her mother made her cookies whenever she was sad. Lonnie cries for them; Mal pretends to kindly wipe it away, flicking the tear into the cookie batter.
The next day, Mal uses psychology to trick Ben into eating the cookie, by making him think he doesn't trust a treat offered by the child of a villain. To Mal's surprise, the love potion works a little too well, as Ben breaks out into a song about his love for her after winning the Tourney game with Jay and Carlos' help. She readily accepts his request to attend the coronation with him, but feels a bit sorry for Audrey, who is shallow compared to her and choose Chad Charming (a manipulative jerk) as a rebound boyfriend.
Mal goes on a date with Ben to the Enchanted Lake. While on the date, they find they have some things in common, such as embarrassing middle names, and the status of their parents; Ben explains that while he has the "poster parents of goodness" and her mother is Mistress of Evil, they're not automatically like them as they get to choose who they get to be.
She is then taken aback when Ben tells her that he can see goodness when he looks into her eyes, not evil. While Ben takes a swim, Mal begins feeling conflicted since she's falling in love. ("If Only") When Ben doesn't surface, Mal attempts to save him despite not being able to swim; Ben saves her, albeit a bit confused. Mal points out that there's a barrier around the Isle of the Lost, preventing swimming. When asked if she loves him, Mal says that she doesn't know what it feels like to love; Ben says he might be able to teach her.
Prior to Family Day, Mal and her friends can video chat with their parents. Hearing her mother's subtle message, Mal decides that they're all goners if they don't succeed. Come Family Day, Mal attends with her friends and is introduced to King Beast and Queen Belle by Ben as his new girlfriend; the experience is mutually uncomfortable for three of them.
Playing a game of croquet prior to lunch, Mal meets Audrey's grandmother, Queen Leah, who initially mistakes her for her mother in shock. Ben explains the situation, but Queen Leah is furious at the very memory of her daughter needing to be raised by fairies due to Maleficent's curse. Feeling sorry for the misery her mother caused, Mal attempts to apologize, but is stopped by Chad Charming, who has never trusted Mal or her friends. After Evie knocks out Chad with a sleeping potion, Mal is left feeling hurt and confused more than ever; Ben attempts comforting her prior to leaving to prep for the coronation the next day. Jane and Audrey make fun of Mal, who snaps back at them by undoing the makeover she gave Jane's hair; she threatens to do worse, telling her friends she's looking forward to the coronation.
The following day, she rides with Ben in a carriage to the coronation. He eats a cupcake with the antidote to the love potion in it too early; however, she learns Ben has been free of the spell since their first date, thanks to the Enchanted Lake washing away the spell. Wondering if Ben had been had been faking his affection for her, Mal is left happily surprised he entrusts his signet ring to her. This however, causes her to begin questioning if she should give up this happiness love has brought her, in order to fulfill her mothers' evil desires.
During the coronation, Jane snatches the wand to give herself a makeover; however, the magic backfires and makes a hole in the barrier surrounding the Isle of the Lost. Mal takes the wand, and after encouragement from Ben, decides to choose good as it's brought her more happiness than evil ever did and states the fact that she wants to live here in Auradon because it brings her happiness. Her friends agree, just as Maleficent arrives to take the wand. With everyone but herself and her friends frozen in time by her mother, Mal finally stands up to Maleficent, saying she's never considered what her Mal wanted. Having a stare-off and using a spell, Mal shrinks her mother down to a small lizard, which is equal to the love in her heart.
Fairy Godmother unfreezes time, freeing everyone. Mal shares a moment with Ben, while telling Fairy Godmother not to be too hard on Jane since it was her fault for putting the ideas in her head. With her mother locked up, Mal decides to enjoy the after party with her friends. Mal dances with Ben to Set it Off. She then narrates "You didn't think that was end of the story, did you?" while giving a smirk to the audience as her eyes glowed green.
In the sequel, Return to the Isle of the Lost, Mal, Evie, Jay, and Carlos find themselves right where we left them in the movie. Enjoying everything that Auradon has to offer. In the Library, she then tells Ben about putting a fake nose on Pin. Meanwhile, she now has great friends, interesting classes, a world filled with hope instead of dreary villains and no future. They originally expected to hate it, but as we all know, they not only decided to stay, but to find their inner goodness. (And when there’s handsome princes, Tourney matches, puppies, and spontaneous musical numbers galore, who can really blame them?)
But when they receive a mysterious invitation to return to the Isle of the Lost, Mal, Evie, Carlos, and Jay find themselves falling into their old habits. Evil spells, stealing, and breaking the rules comes naturally to them, it’s not really their fault, it’s how they were raised! In addition to becoming Rotten to the Core once again, they discover a dark mystery at the Isle’s core, and must combine all their talents, both good and bad, to save the Kingdom.
Mal first has a daydream of her, Jay, Carlos, and Evie, huddled around a bubbling cauldron. She casts a spell on some apples to make the taster wicked. The four are then shown passing out apples and watching chaos break loose. ("Ways to be Wicked") She then is being crowded by several reporters in the front of the school asking her questions about the Cotillion and her life in Auradon. Ben and the Fairy Godmother intervene to veer the reporters away from a very relieved Mal. Ben talks to Mal about spending time together, before remembering that he is late for a council meeting and leaves abruptly after apologizing to Mal. Evie and Mal then walk away to get fitting for Mal's dress for the Cotillion.
Mal is then shown in her Cotillion dress getting fitted by Evie in their room. She complains her discomfort to Evie about the dress, along with the stress of all the events she has to attend to even after the Cotillion. She then asks Evie about what they would be doing if they were still in the Isle, which Evie laughs off. The TV then shows Mal and Ben on their tour of Auradon dining with Aladdin and Jasmine, which they stop to watch. The TV goes on to talk about the days until the Cotillion when Mal would officially be a Lady of the Court.
Mal gives a surprised gasp, at this, as she counts the days on her fingers. She walks over and picks up her spell book. She then chants a spell to remember everything she reads at lightning speed and starts to go over a book for "Lady Manners." Evie notices and scolds Mal about how dishonest she was being which Mal shrugs off saying that she was a mess before she started using her spell book. Evie takes the spell book away and when Mal begins to protest, she tells her that her spell book should be put in the museum along with Evie's Magic Mirror. After reluctantly giving up, she asks Evie if she ever missed running wild and breaking all the rules. Evie gives a shocked "no" asking why would they. She takes Mal and leads her back to the TV saying that they were in Auradon and that they were Auradon girls now. They watch the TV talk about Mal's love of strawberries, showing Mal and Ben on a romantic date eating strawberries. As Mal looks sad, Evie tells her that Auradon is the land of opportunity and that they could be whatever they wanted to be. Evie asks Mal to leave the past in the past, and when Mal still looks sad, she cheers her up by showing Mal her Cotillion shoes.
Mal then is shown walking through school with Evie, Jay, and Carlos. Jay flirts with some girls and Carlos asks why he hasn't picked anyone to bring to the Cotillion already, which he responds that he's going solo so that he can dance with all of them. After Carlos calls him the expert, he asks him on advice on asking a girl to the Cotillion, and Jay jokingly responds that he has to look like him. They run into Jane, who addresses Mal, but Carlos cuts in. He nervously asks her if she liked the carrot cake the night before, and Jane says that she had the pumpkin pie. After Jay drags him off, Evie addresses Lonnie and Jane if they wanted a spot for Cotillion fitting at three, and Lonnie hurriedly says "yes". She apologizing to Jane, saying that she will take Jane later. Jane starts asking Mal about decorating at the Cotillion. Mal says she has to get to class, but Jane says that she can nod if she likes it. Jane hurriedly starts listing decorative items. Mal starts to protest after Jane asks her about party favors, but she interrupts and starts listing more items. Jane stops to ask about pen toppers, and Mal eyes glow green. She closes them for a moment, and then smiles at Jane, agreeing with her. Lonnie comes around and tells Mal that she is excited to see what Mal's wedding will look like, and Mal, dazed, agrees before looking surprised. Jane tells Mal that the Cotillion is like getting "engaged to be engaged to be engaged." Mal started stuttering about not knowing about it and that her entire life is just laid right in front of her as Ben walks up behind her. Ben addresses Mal and tries to talk to her but is drawn aside by Jane as Mal waits for him. Jane then talks about Ben's present to Mal at the Cotillion, which turns out to be a stained-glass window depicting Mal with Ben kneeling before her. After Ben reminds Jane to make Mal's eyes green, he says goodbye to Mal, who walks away. Jane then asks about the different shades of green to use, and he chooses one.
While Mal is at her locker, Ben walks up to her. He tells her that he has surprise for her, and she laughs about how many presents Ben gets her. When Ben looks into her locker, he sees her spell book, and asks her if she is going to donate it to the museum. She closes the locker door to block his view and muses about how she had forgotten about it. She says that she has to get to class, but Ben stops her and walks her over to a purple scooter with a bronze bow on the handle. Mal gasps in surprise and tells Ben how she loves it. She then says that she didn't get Ben anything. He reminds her that she told him that she would take him on a picnic with all his favorite foods. Mal says that the picnic is going to be on Thursday. They start arguing about it being Thursday until Ben takes his phone out and shows her. Mal covers up her surprise and says that she was just joking. She says she needs to bake only one more thing, and when Ben reminds her about class, Mal says that she will multitask and walks away laughing.
Mal runs into Carlos's room as reporters follow her and she slams the door, panting. She locks the door, then walks over to the TV, which was talking about her, and turns it off hurriedly with the remote as Carlos watches her. When Mal's eyes glow green, Carlos tries to calm her down. Mal starts to rant about how reporters are always running after her and taking pictures of her. She asks him if he ever missed screaming at people and making them run away from him. He tells her that she was thinking of Carlos's mother, Cruella, which he was usually being the one running away, and tells her no. Carlos then asks Mal if she brought "it" (a truth gummy) and she starts to open a small container. Chad suddenly opens the room silently and stealthily, unaware that Carlos and Mal were in the room, and closes it. When he turns around, he looks surprised to see Carlos and Mal there. He awkwardly says hi, and then tells Carlos that he just wanted to use his 3D printer. Carlos asks Chad about how he got the key to his room, and Chad says that he printed it off last time he was there, when they were sleeping. He tries to defend himself by saying how good Carlos's 3D printer is, but Carlos tell him to get out and leave the key. He angrily walks out and slams the door. Carlos then reminds Mal about the "potion," which turns out to be a truth gummy that will allow Carlos to say what he wants to say to Jane. Mal cautions him about if he really wants to take it because it will make him say the truth all the time and remarks that if she took it, she would get sent back to the Isle. Carlos tells Mal that he will take his chances, but before Carlos takes it, Dude jumps off the bed and eats it from Mal's hand. Dude then starts to talk, much to Carlos's and Mal's surprise and disbelief, remarking that the gummy was "nasty." He continues, chiding Carlos about "man up," and to scratch his butt. Mal, shocked, told Carlos to scratch his butt, then awkwardly turns and leaves. Carlos protests about Mal just leaving him there with Dude.
Later, Mal and Ben are sitting together on the picnic date near a lake. She feeds him a hors d'oeuvre which Ben remarks is the best thing in the world. Ben said that she had made every single dish Mrs. Potts made for his parents. He asked Mal if it really took her three days to make it all, which she jokingly asks him not to even ask her. Ben told her that it meant a lot that she stopped and did all of that for him, and that they didn't have a lot of time being just "them." Ben then asked if there were any napkins. He reaches into the picnic basket, and Mal tries to stop him saying that she can get them herself. However, Ben takes Mal's spell book out, to Mal's shock. She quickly makes up an excuse saying that she threw the book in the basket at the last minute in case it rained during the date. However, Ben started to read the list of spells that Mal had tabbed showing him that she had used the spell book to read quickly, turn her hair blonde, and cook all the food that she had "made." Ben starts to get angry, telling her that he had been falsely complimenting her for fitting in well. Mal, desperate, tries to spell him into forgetting the moment, but she messes up. Ben jumps up from the table, figuring out she was trying to spell him. They start yelling at each other, Mal saying that transitioning into Auradon was hard, while Ben retorts that becoming king has been hard as well. Ben says that Mal has been lying and keeping secrets from him and reminds her that Auradon isn't the Isle of the Lost. Mal retorts that she knows it isn’t and explains that she isn't a pretty pink princess or a Lady of the Court. She then grabs her spell book and casts a spell over the feast which turns it back to "what is real," which turns out to be a peanut butter jelly sandwich and a glass of milk. She then walks away, despite Ben trying to call her back.
Mal returns to hers and Evie's room dressed in her VK outfit. She grabs a pencil and pierces air holes into a blue and black pencil box. She drops it, then starts to cry saying that she doesn't belong in Auradon. She picks up the box again and walks over to the glass cage where her mother, Maleficent the lizard, is kept. She opens the cage, takes out Maleficent and places her in the box. She then smiles weakly and says that they're "blowing this popsicle stand," then places the lid on the pencil box.
Afterwards, Mal drives her purple scooter wearing a purple helmet to a cliff at the edge of Auradon overlooking the sea and the Isle of the Lost. She stops, breathing heavily, and takes off her goggles. She quickly takes her spellbook out and casts a spell on her scooter that will take the driver anywhere. She then drives across the water trailing green magic, slightly hovering over the water and bouncing into it occasionally. Mal rams into the barrier, but passes through it with a gasp of surprise. She then is shown driving through the "market" causing many people to shout in surprise and move out of her way quickly. She stops at a corner and takes off her goggles to see a poster on the wall advertising the Royal Cotillion showing Ben and Mal together. An eye patch is drawn over Ben's right eye , and Mal's face has and "x" over it with "GOOD GIRL" written on her. Mal peels the poster off the wall, crumples it, and throws it over her shoulder. She puts her goggles back on and drives off, many people staring at her as she leaves. She drives on until she reaches a building, turns right, and parks her scooter in an opening. She takes off her helmet, grabs a rock off a nearby table, and throws it at a sign reading: "Danger: Flying Rocks" hanging to the side of the building. It folds to the wall, then a door slides upwards revealing a flight of stairs leading up the building. Mal then starts walking up the stairs to the room above.
Mal later is walking down to Lady Tremaine's Curl Up & Dye. She gets to the doors, but notices that there is hanging sign that says the shop doesn't open until midnight. She pushes the doors open and walks inside to reveal a hair shop with walls and furniture splattered with paint and bubbling bottles. She spots Dizzy Tremaine sweeping the hair-covered floors while listening to "Rather Be With You" on her headphones. Dizzy notices Mal and exclaims with surprise, asking if Evie was with her as well. Mal chuckles and tells her "no", and Dizzy looks disappointed. Mal tells her that she forgot that the place doesn't open until midnight and compliments it saying that it looks good. Dizzy chuckles, and Mal asks her if her grandmother has given her any customers yet. Dizzy responds that she only gets a witch here and there. She goes on saying that she usually does a lot of cleaning. Mal asks her if she did Evie's hair, and Dizzy tells her yes, and that she thought of the little braids that Evie wore. Mal asks Dizzy if she had any ideas for her, and Dizzy examines her. She begins criticizing Mal's hair and nails. Dizzy asks Mal how far she can go with her hairstyle, and Mal tells her to make it so that Mal feels like herself, but way worse. Dizzy squeals happily, then grabs a large pair of scissors. She dyes Mal's hair magenta, then cuts some hair off. Dizzy straightens Mal's hair and paints Mal's nails black. After it is done, Dizzy spins her chair around and Mal gets up to look herself in a paint-splattered cracked mirror. She then pulls out money from her pocket and gives it to Dizzy, who asks her if the money is for her. When Mal says yes, Dizzy exclaims in happiness and runs over to the cashier laughing.
Dizzy stops when she sees Harry Hook walking into the entrance. He tells her to give him the money, and calls her a runt. She reluctantly gives him the money in his outstretched hand. Harry then tells her to give him the rest of the money as well, gesturing to the cashier by hitting the desk with his hook. Dizzy walks slowly to the cashier while Harry puts the money in his mouth. Dizzy pulls out the money from the cashier and gives it to Harry. He says thank you and starts to walk out, unaware of Mal's presence, while Mal watches while chewing some gum. Mal speaks up, asking if Harry still runs errands for Uma or if he gets to keep what he steals. He turns around, shocked, and calls Mal's presence a "nice surprise." Mal says hi to him, and Harry starts walking towards her, telling her that Uma will never give back Mal's old territory. Mal says that it is okay, because she is going to take it back. He chuckles lightly, using his hook to brush through Mal's hair saying that he could hurt Mal. She suddenly grabs his wrist, and takes the chewed gum out of her mouth and places it on the tip of Harry's hook. She looks at him telling him that she bets that he couldn't hurt her without her permission. Harry lifts the hook and eats the gum off of it. He then walks towards the entrance, sweeping the counter with his arm, sending multiple objects flying to the ground. He turns back to Mal, makes a mock bow, and walks out of the shop. Dizzy, who was still behind the cashier, sarcastically remarks about how much more sweeping she has to do now.
Ben, Evie, Jay, and Carlos arrive at the VK's old hideout, and Jay opens the entrance with a rock. The three VK's wait outside while Ben walks up the stairs. He finds Mal in a room with walls full of graffiti. She is unaware that he is there, since her back is turned because she was using spray paint to draw herself, Jay, Carlos, and Evie with black spray paint with the words "Rotten to the Core" while standing on some boxes. Ben comments that at least she didn't draw him with horns and a pitchfork jokingly. Mal lets out a gasp of surprise and whirls around. Ben apologizes to her about their fight, saying it was all his fault and begs Mal to come home while lifting up her ring to her. Mal walks down the crates and tells him that she is home while walking towards him. Ben pushes on, telling her that he brought the limo. Mal says that she doesn't fit in in Auradon even though she gave it her best shot. Ben then says that he can change, that he will skip school, have more fun, and blow off some of his responsibilities. Mal cuts in, saying no and that she is a terrible influence on him. She tells him that one day she might do something so messed up that the kingdom will turn on both of them. Ben shakes his head, pleading her not to quit "them," and that he and the people of Auradon love her. He asks Mal if she loves Ben. He takes the ring and places it in Mal's right palm. Mal looks down at it, and takes it in her other hand, smiling slightly. She then places it in Ben's hand and closed it into a fist. She sadly tells Ben that she needs to take herself out of the picture because it was best for Ben and Auradon. Ben starts to protest, walking towards her, but Mal backs up, clearly uncomfortable with Ben being to close. She tells him that she can't do this, and that Ben should leave. She walks over to the boxes, grabs the spray paint can, and steps up. When Ben keeps standing there, she asks him again to leave. Ben walks slowly away, and Mal looks miserable.
When Ben walks out of the building, he tells Evie, Jay, and Carlos that Mal refused to go back to Auradon. Evie insists that she will talk to her and walks over to an object that resembles an ear trumpet stuck to the wall while Ben walks away. She asks Mal to let her talk to her for a second. On the other line, Mal walks over to another ear trumpet in the room and pulls a heavy lever next to it, then tells Evie to "go away" then Carlos asks Evie and Jay where Ben is. They stop and look nervous, while Evie calls Ben's name. They see a shadow walking over to them through a dark aisle, and Evie angrily tells Ben to not scare them like that. The shadow turns out not to be Ben, but Harry Hook. He says that scaring is his specialty. Jay angrily demands what Harry did with Ben, and Harry said that they captured him. He says that if Evie, Jay, and Carlos want to see Ben again, to have Mal come to Ursula's Fish and Chips alone that night. He goes on saying that Uma wants to have a little visit with Mal. Harry turns to Jay, and makes a mocking sad face saying that Jay has lost his touch. Jay lunges for Harry, but Evie holds him back while Harry laughs and mockingly barks at Carlos. He turns around and walks casually back into the aisle, whistling. Jay turns and starts climbing up a ladder leading up to the top of the building, while the others follow.
After Jay, Carlos, and Evie explained what happened, Mal starts scolding them saying if they hadn't brought him along, he would have never been captured. The other three explained that Ben would've come anyway, and asked Mal what they were going have to do now. Mal says that "they" are not doing anything and that the matter is between Uma and herself, and she would get Ben alone. Carlos tries to slow Mal down, saying that she will still have to go through Harry Hook and his wharf rats to get Ben, and Jay agrees saying that she will need them to help. Mal reminds them that she has to go alone and Jay responds saying that they would wait for her until she gets back. She comes to Ursula's Fish and Chips and talk to Uma, who challenges Mal to an arm wrestling match when Mal was winning and her eyes glowing green then Uma says to Mal for her to bring the Fairy Godmother's wand to distract her and wins also tells her to bring it to her ship at noon.
Carlos, Jay, Evie tells Mal there's no way they're going to bring the wand and Evie commented about Mal's new hairstyle and told her that Dizzy had done it and they were talking, then Carlos interrupted them and Mal resumes to go over the plan to fool Uma and Mal remembered Carlos's 3-D printer he can use it to make a replica wand and also use smoke bombs. While Carlos and Jay returned to Auradon to replicated the wand, Mal and Evie went to Lady Tremaine's Cut Up and Dye and Evie saw Dizzy and she showed Evie a scrapbook and then they made colorful smoke bombs, when they returned to their old hideout, Mal told Evie that she was not returning to Auradon then Evie said I'm staying with you and Mal told her you're an Auradon girl and I'm just a girl from the Isle. Then Mal tossed a rock at the sign and they climbed the stairs to a landing and discuss what they’ve been feeling towards their situations.
After they return with the replica wand Mal, Evie, Jay, Carlos and Lonnie face Uma and her pirates. But Uma wanted to see if it's real, Mal made up a fake spell to make Dude talk to fool Uma. Mal gave Uma the replica wand and Uma gave Ben back to Mal. Once Uma had the wand, she tried to cast a spell with the wand to lower the barrier and nothing happened. Mal, Evie, Jay, Carlos, Lonnie, Ben got into a sword fight with Uma, Harry, Gil and the pirates. After using colorful smoke bombs to distract the pirates Mal and the VKs with Ben and Lonnie escaped the from the Island and return to Auradon. Once they got back, Lonnie returned to swords and Jane approached Ben about Cotillion and he asked Mal did she want to cancel it, but she didn't say anything. Evie came to Mal telling her we need to talk but Carlos stopped them saying he was tired of them running off to have a girl talk so told that they are her family and told them to sit and talk. After the talk Evie told her that her dress will be there if she wants it and Jay asked Mal that if she can't stand one more day there he would drive her back himself.
At Cotillion Mal was introduced as future Lady Mal, she appeared in her Cotillion dress came down the stairs talked to the former King Beast and Queen Belle then Evie taken her hand to ask if she's alright they turned to look at the stairs when King Ben showed and told Mal he wished he had time to explain when Uma appeared. Uma talked to Mal and started to dance with Ben, Mal, Evie, Jay, Carlos and Lonnie started to leave when Jane told Lumiere to show everyone Ben's gift to his lady and unveiled the stained glass of Mal and Ben. Uma got upset and wanted it covered up and it was refused, she wanted Ben to order the Fairy Godmother to lower the barrier and she refused. Mal told Evie that Ben had been spelled and Evie said the Uma found Mal's spell book, Mal kissed Ben to release him from the spell.
Uma upset then tried to take the wand from Fairy Godmother and Evie was between Fairy Godmother and Uma to keep Uma from getting the wand. Uma then reached the railing of ship, Mal tried to stop her from going over but Uma's necklace glowed, and she went over, after she went into the water she changed to have tentacles like her mother. After seeing that, Mal moved to an area on deck and changed into a dragon in front of everyone and went after Uma they were going to fight but Ben jumped into the water between them to stop it, Uma was rejected and defeated, she gave Ben back the ring and she then left. After Ben climbed back on board the ship along with everyone seeing Mal as a dragon return to the ship and in purple smoke changed back to herself with a different dress, approached by Evie telling her "I did not know I can do that" and Evie saying "Tell me about it" who then blown a puff of a smoke off Mal's dress. Then returned to Ben and kissed him again, afterwards everyone started dancing and Ben placed the ring on Mal's finger and watched everyone bow to the couple.
