Analyzing Zora’s design cuz I’m gay and have nothing better to do

Our first look of Zora is sort of a silhouette. There’s not much to say other than she looks mysterious.

But when we REALLY get to see her… she’s still shadowy. In a lot of Zora’s scenes she’s shadowy. She’s also backlighted by the bright sunlight through the window, putting attention onto her. She has a casual pose, but she still feels threatening and dangerous. Why’s that?

It’s cause she’s triangular! And also cause she has a freaky shaded out face but I’m talking about the triangles.

The most noticeable triangles in her designs are the ones around her eyes and the pattern around her hat, but there’s a LOT more.

Like the shape of her eye, or her hat, and in this scene, her shoulder.

The epithet erased style is generally angular, but Zora is almost ENTIRELY sharp angles.

Hell, even the shape of her face is triangular, most of the characters have a round face (Molly, Mera, Sylvie) or a square face (Percy, Ramsey, Indus, Howie).

In the book, characters like Naven and Rick have a jaw like her’s, but she was the first, and she was the only main character in the first season with one like it, so she sticks out.

The main shape of her body, being her poncho, is also triangular.

Shapes are often used in character design to show key aspects of a character’s personality.

Circular characters are friendly and non-threatening, square characters are sturdy and strong, and triangular characters are dangerous, which is why most cartoon villains have triangles incorporated into their design.

Zora’s triangles aren’t just to show her power, but also reference the nature of her epithet, sundial. She also has a few symbols on her clothing that resembles the sun.

As well as having sun symbols and triangles, she has a warmer color scheme, mostly made of oranges, reds, and yellows. Her color scheme actually goes back around to my point of her looking dangerous.

Orange, red, and yellow are all vibrant colors. They catch your eye, which is why construction workers wear orange or yellow hardhats, and why toxic animals usually have one of these colors. You can see it, it stands out among the typical blues and greens of most environments. Just like how Zora stands out among people, a 6’3 bounty hunting cowboy.

Zora is a walking warning sign. Sharp and bright and a sign of danger to come.

Ramsey:

He did something really cool in the finale of season 1, and he's super funny, and gold is a cool metal and he can turn things into gold, then back into not gold if he wants. He uses his power for a lot of clever things!

Rex:

Rex is literally filled micro pieces of metal basically from these things called nanites in his universe (although most characters are full of these nanites) but Rex is special because his nanites are the prototype ones (if i remember correctly). he can not only create metal at will but those pieces of metal are PARTS OF HIM! such as his Smack Hands, that is when Rex uses nanites to turn his hands (or completely envelop?) hos hands with metal to create moveable metal hands that he can FEEL. this goes for all builds he can create on himself. the downside is that he can only make metal that is previously blueprinted into his mind (from..somewhere) so he has an orange set of builds (Smack Hands, big metal legs and feet for high jumps called Punk Busters, a motorcycle type build that builds over his legs called the Rex Ride, wings (the Boogie Pack), a sword that can turn into a saw (Big Fat Sword or BFS for short), a cannon dubbed Slam Cannon he has a second blue set of builds that comes later when he is injected with the Omega Nanite. these builds consist of: the Blast Caster, a giant whip that comes from his arm, Funchucks which are giant nunchucks from his arms, Bad Axes which are a pair axes, Block Party which are gauntlets, and the best of all the blue, The Sky Slyder: a very fast hoverboard that comes from his feet. Rex is also skilled with Technopathy! he can communicate with other peoples nanites if he touches the person! its like code! he can even tell these nanites to stop transforming the host. he can also use this power to open technological doors and other kinds things! all of this is readable on the fandom wiki btw, i said most of this from memory but i had to read the wiki for the full set of weapons he can make.

These members have a limited amount of knowledge into the scale or even the degree-of-illegality of Naven's empire (Bliss Ocean).

Molly Blyndeff, trudging through hard times with an uncaring family, Ms Blyndeff has been quietly emancipated in exchange for her eyes, ears, and unassuming demeanor. A little spy in short.

Trixie Roughhouse, a close friend of Molly's with a fascination with concoctions. Upon introduction, they were assigned to be apprenticed in moonshining at one of Naven's underground distilleries, though they personally prefer experimenting for unknown product.

Phoenica Fleecity, another friend of Molly's. She isn't of much use in criminal activities (also the least informed of Naven's doings), but her generous allowance does help grease the financial side of activities she has no business knowing about.

Howie Honeyglow, an engineer and construction contact of Naven's. He provides maintenance and solves any lack of facilities for 'business activities', by building them up in record time with little excess charges.

Giovanni Potage, leader of a band of misfits who broke off from another street gang; now in Naven's employ. As mentioned in a previous post, he provides the majority of grunt work in Sweet Jazz City for Bliss Ocean. His talent lies in his rousing leadership which keeps morale steady no matter the branch, much to Naven's surprise. Hosts weekly hotpot nights for his brothers (in-arms).

Percival King, the officer who chose peace. She sees Naven as a major businessman with some connections to the criminal underworld; thus a deal was struck where Percy cooperates with Naven in removing the violence on the streets (and kills off competition) while Percy avoids further investigating Naven's influence that made the deal possible.

Indus Tarbella. Formerly Mera's self-declared servant and bodyguard, he now provides security and butler-like services in extension to Naven as a means to remain close to Mera.

The Inner Circle

Everyone here has blood on their hands. These are the men and women who initiates and executes the family's plans. Aka Bliss Ocean Proper.

Zora Salazar: former bounty hunter, gunsmith, and living action film 'protagonist'. Once carried out a hit halfway across the country within a single day by jumping off a wing of a plane midair onto a passing train to cut time. She usually works alone over larger distances outside of Sweet Jazz City.

Mera Salamin, the main (once) licensed surgeon and occasional strategist. She was out of a career after leaving glass shards in a patient and former co-worker who allegedly harassed her. But her swift manner of action caught Naven's attention, and she refuses to play on the sidelines this time.

Ramsey Murdoch is the accountant and financial advisor, mainly for Naven's legitimate ventures but also reaffirms good and competitive business sense for an empire balancing its legal and illegal standings. Whilst Naven is a great dealmaker, Ramsey makes those bigger deals possible.

The Driver is Naven's eyes on the city, as well as his personal companion. Always (seemingly) a different person to outsiders, some speculate that Naven has Sweet Jazz City's private chauffeurs under his patronage. Though in reality, Yoomtah Zing is a master of disguise and has a more hands-on role in managing Naven's criminal operations alongside Mera.

Naven Nuknuk, former arms dealer to the IRA and the man who came from selling apples to apple cider. He is just a small fish in comparison to the big bosses in New York or Chicago, no need to pay heed to him! (The FBI certainly doesn't anymore)
