something happening on a mission, something personal that has soap spiralling; panic and rage making him reckless, thoughtless, and ghost has to draw the line

“you’re compromised johnny; you know what that means?”

“you’re not pulling me out,” soap immediately snarls. he turns on him and ghost barely recognises him; venomous fear turning his eyes to unyielding ice. "you're not sidelining me; i need to be in this-!"

but ghost has never been afraid of venom; spat or dripped straight from bared fangs.

he snakes out a hand grip the back of his neck, jerking him in a rough shake. "if you can't think, you can't be a soldier," he growls and he flinches like he's been struck.

his lips quiver as they twist in a sneer and he wrenches, trying to free himself of his hold.

ghost doesn't let him.

"it means you give your body to me because your head ain't fucking attached to it anymore."

soap stills, body trembling beneath his hand as he sucks in shaking breaths.

he tightens his grip, pulling him closer and digs his forehead hard into his. “it means you give yourself to me so i can have the weapon that you are and use you the way you're meant to be used."

the ice in soap's eyes fractures.

ghost’s voice drops to a whisper, spoken only to johnny, not this facade of vengeance and pain, and wills it to reach him through the glaciers.

“so i can keep you safe ‘til it’s done and i can bring you back.”

#in my head its bc graves abducts his sister and is using her as hostage to draw him out knowing ghost will always follow him #but the intensity and intimacy of saying ‘you cant trust your mind not to betray you so let me be in charge of your body until you can’#after what happened to tommy he could never deny johnny his right to save his sister #but its bc of what happened to tommy that he knows he cant let him do it alone with only his rage to guide him #hes more likely to get himself killed and ghost wont live through that #so he has to balance it #and the only way he knows how is to completely shut down soap’s mind until hes no more than instinct and muscle memory #if he cant think practically then dont let him think at all #reduce him to a place where he can only follow orders #and when its finally over and his sister is safe and graves is dead #only then will he drag johnny back up to the surface #he’ll do it even if it means dragging him kicking and screaming back to humanity #instead of letting him sink in the depths where nothing hurts. theres no fear down there. no pain. only order #and thats the risk ghost took sending johnny to that place but he only did it bc he would stop at nothing to bring him back #and help him through the after #the breakdown. the rush of panic and rage and relief and anguish johnnys been supressing on his order #it was his word that turned johnny into a ghost #and its his touch that brings him back to the man #coming out of my cage and ive been doing just fine.txt #we’re a team. ghost team #cod #soapghost #ghostsoap #ghost x soap #ghoap #simon ghost riley #ghost cod #john soap mactavish #soap cod

A gimmick which I think would be interesting in a visual novel: small variation in the visual designs of the sprites and backgrounds based on who's narrating a given scene. Not large variations, mostly—buildings are going to have generally the same architecture, people are going to have generally the same outfits, et cetera—but lots of details shifting around on the margins, showing the texture of the characters' thought-processes through the visual design of the world as they see it, rather than only through the text of their narration.

So, for example, one could have one viewpoint character be unusually faceblind, and portray this by having all the sprites have Same-Face Syndrome when viewed from their perspective, even as they hold onto more variation face-wise in everyone else's perspectives. One could have one viewpoint character who's unusually conscious of the fine details of their physical environment, and portray this by drawing the environment-art with much more fiddly detail when in their perspective, showing wood-grain and electrical wiring and other such things which are abstracted away in others' perspectives of the same areas. Et cetera.

#y'all already know what my answer is LMAAOOOOO #like i think my second favorite is..... wow its hard #ice and death sound so pretty. im leaning towards death because of the night sounds and the rippling water/river noises #and also its just my aesthetic the fucking wet snarl at the end is so mecore #i also like the balance spell sound. it fucks #OKAY WAIT I ALSO LIKE THE STAR SPELL SOUND #the little magical plink at the end. it makes my autism happy #whoever composed the music/sounds for each spell deserves 1 billion dollars because they're so creative and pleasant #like the variety. shadow magic sounds warped/whisper like and balance ice life and storm are just pure music #also the different instruments for different magic schools!!?!?!? the horns for fire and the string instruments for life???? This Christmas Santa gave to me... A new job hell yeah.

After two months of job searching and over 70 applications I got a job offer! I accepted today and they still need to run their background checks or whatever but! If all goes well I will start January! It won't be as art heavy as my last job so hopefully I will have less chance of getting burnt out and being able to draw plenty outside of work. But I'm just stoked to get insurance again (internal screaming)

But I am very grateful for patreon and my patrons so that I was able to keep the lights on in the meanwhile.

#svsss #shang qinghua #technically counts as tgcf?#just the idea of sqh dying and coming back is so compelling because in canon he literally just going through the motions. he's given up.#he doesn't WANT to die (from mbj's hand– from cang qiong's fall) but that's all he sees. it's the only end he can imagine to his story.#so the act of getting him to the point where he WANTS to stay– where it doesn't matter that death has come to take him he's not DONE YET is #revolutionary to his character (his ‟character‟– his role as well) in of itself and requires some canon divergence to justify it #and it's INTENSELY interesting to imagine him getting there #Imagine: An Ding is cruel. It is cruel and inefficient and its cruelties only make it more so. Sqh is ‟awarded‟ with the role of Peak Lord #of An Ding (this crown of barbed wire). And sqh doesn't MEAN to change the plot but– it's awful here! It's so awful that it's OFFENSIVE #and before sqh knows it two years have passed and An Ding is a mess of growing pains: of infrastructure torn down and rebuilt #but it's... better. It's hard work. It undeniably sucks and makes sqh cry from frustration all the time! Balancing the fixing of all the #shit his shizun left broken while staying on top of his usual duties is a procession of sleepless nights and little pains. Lmfao my mom was getting on me abt not having enough to do this upcoming semester so I decided ah okay I'll add another class. And that's perfectly fine. But the one I picked results in the majority of my schedule being generally unaffected and still lax, but my Thursday being absolutely fucked.

For reference, on every other day I'd spend like less than four hours in class/commuting(anywhere from zero hours to almost four), but Thursday, its almost 9 hours combined 😭 which is like fine with me, but I think ill despise thursdays after this, AND MY BIRTHDAY IS ON A THURSDAY :(

#she doesnt like the fact that im practically free on Fridays #<- online class that doesnt meet on that day #so ah i hope this balances out sjkfkflg #the way scheduling in my school works has such a weird affect #my mon/wens/fri are gonna be so chill and then tues/thurs is just....something #it makes it worse bcs one of my classes only takes place for a section of the semester #and that class is mon/wens so im only gonna be online after that #though i still think ill have to meet w that professor bcs there is in fact reasoning for that class to be so short lasting #but tues and thurs is just stuff that ill never get any reprieve from lol #four classes in one day. we'll see how it goes 🥰🥰#also thurs will be interesting bcs i will have two classes just abt middle eastern politics #i came across a class on the arab-israeli conflict and wanted to take it bcs its obv very relevant rn #and then the one i just scheduled is also abt middle eastern politics so i really am going to be thru the ringer #not that its a bad thing at all!! i just mean its interesting how relevant this semester will be and how im just getting intensely informed #anyways i think the way i schedule would be a nightmare to anyone else #i try to schedule every class after 12(or 11 at least) so then all of them are crammed right after one another #and i wake up an hour before class and leave myself that meager time to get ready and commute lmfao #my friend asked me when i eat lunch. and im like uh ;;; never? 🥰#lol dw i do eat but like i treat my time on campus like how can i pack this as densely as possible #i dont like sitting around by my lonesome it makes me depressed dhfkkg #also i think i will actually kms with all the writing im goong to have to do this semester #that is my reasoning to my mom abt why she shouldn't be pissed at my supposed lack of activity #like im taking so much thats emphasized with writing. dont worry i will be in fact budy #*busy #catie.rambling.txt

Ooh, seems Fantasy Lifes sequel got pushed back to summer 2024. Yay! More time spent making The Best Fucking Thing Ever!

And new lifes!! Artist and Farmer! I forget if they revealed any of those already...

Farmer seems pretty unsurpising considering they're basically making FL a giga size farmsim-inal crossing rpg. I worry for the overall gameplay loop and a too-many-cooks situation, but man if they can make all those work together, wow.

Oh, and Artist. How will that work? The crafting minigame doesnt look too different, I guess youll be making art to hang up as furniture? What will be its practical use...? Carpenter had furniture but also tools and some weapons. What will Artist do for people who arent crazy about customisability...? Hmmm.

Cautiously optimistic that this will have even half the hold over me as the original 👀

#fantasy life #the uhm. strangelings? item people? wacky but seem fun as an... 'explanation' for why old characters are back?#seems therell be a more intense plot #which i love FL's plot but its so long and anticlimactic and that fit with its themes but i completely get people who were disapointed by it #i just hope they balance it with the actual game better #FL's story would have been much more fun to get through if each part of it wasnt sooooo looooong

Fei Du silently puffed out a cold breath, which quickly produced frost visible to the naked eye. He remembered the string of missed phone calls trying to cut in earlier and carelessly looked down at his phone.

Fei Du took one look and went silent. The President Fei who had scared the stalking villain into wanting to pull a knife twitched the corners of his mouth; his first reaction was to stick his phone back into his jacket pocket, pretending that nothing had happened. But on the other end, Luo Wenzhou seemed to have a gaze that extended thousands of li. While the phone was still warm, he called again.

Fei Du’s hand shook. In the chilly villa’s living room, a bit of sweat broke out on his back. He took a deep breath, then answered. “Hi…”

There was a brief pause on the other end. Then Luo Wenzhou said heavily, “You were just on the phone for at least twenty-five minutes.”

Fei Du said, “I…”

“I suppose you’ve been calling the lunar probe?”

Fei Du: “…”

Though Fei Du didn’t say anything, Luo Wenzhou seemed to be able to tell what had happened through some miraculous instinct. “Where are you?”

Fei Du said, “…At the villa.”

“What are you doing there on your own?” Luo Wenzhou made some association that suddenly changed the tone of his voice. “Wait there for me!”

(dont hate me for this but.. his controling aspeft #is not totally unlike fei dus dad. its opposite comforting control since its caring and kind but like #it is ijteresting the man fei du fell for is as possessive in his own way as his father was. i think #luo is actually MORE possessive cause luo wouldnt let go of fei du even if they betrayed each other beyond reason)#less interesting but still so. also interesting luo wenzhou hates ppl Like fei du and thag fei du Comes from #and yet loves HIM unconditionally. i think the novel is saying something about how #theres the potential for all kinds of things inside all of us #and even the villains in this #are lovable like fei du is to lwz to Someone.
