If you have been following the Genshin Impact (Genshin) news lately, you would have more or less heard about the Chinese players instantly unfollowing Genshin in all of their socials, including the companies that has collaborated with Hoyoverse.
I know there are a lot of people talking about it and you'd be wondering, "is this going to be another one of those posts?"
Truthfully, I don't know because I don't really plan what I write here... The most I do is just go back and read from the top to make sure I am making sense, not unintentionally offending anybody, and editing parts that needs to be edited.
So, just humour me and join me on this wild ride, yeah?
Tumblr media

First off, for the benefit of those who are blissfully unaware of what is going on, Hoyoverse announced in their 4.4 Special Programme that they are giving away three intertwined fates and some other stuff to players for all of their support for the past three years.
I know that line is going to piss some people off already like, three? THREE? HONKAI STAR RAIL GETS A F***ING 5 STAR CHARACTER FOR FREE AND WE ONLY GET 3 INTERTWINED FATES??
Tumblr media
(GIF Source: Giphy thru' Google Image Search)
Okay, CHILL PEOPLE CHILL!
You chose to open the "Keep Reading" so give me a chance to write something, yeah?
Tumblr media
(GIF Source: Tenor thru' Google Image Search)
So, yeah, that is technically what people were mad about because the rewards, in Hoyoverse fashion, were stingy.
Honestly, I can understand why they decided to give three intertwined fates because, as they said, it is for the past THREE years players have been supporting the game. Seeing the link?
But of course, it is also considered injustice to, not only the players, but also the game itself.
Like I mentioned earlier, Honkai Star Rail (HSR) has a free 5-star character... not just any 5-star character, a FEATURED 5-star character... being sent out to all HSR players through the in-game mail system.
In case some of you are not HSR players and are also blissfully unaware of the significance of this terrible news, it is just like Hoyoverse giving out a free Zhongli to all Genshin players on the first year of the game's release.
Many Genshin veterans here can tell you that Genshin has never received a free featured 5-star character in the first two years of the game's release. The free characters that we keep getting are all 4-stars, and most of the time, we already have them at C6 from our attempts to get the featured 5-star banners.
Before I go any further, what I just mentioned is only part of the reason why players are so mad at Hoyoverse.
The other reason to why all of this big hoohaa is simply because of the way the message was conveyed.
I missed the Special Programme and wasn't aware of how bad it was until a Content Creator in TikTok covered this. I was aware of players unfollowing Genshin on the socials but not what the TikToker covered.
Basically, it was the way the appreciation message was delivered. At first, I thought people were just exaggerating. Just before I started writing this post, I went to search for the Special Programme and watched it.
I stand corrected.
If you would like to see that part of the Special Programme in case you, too, did not watch it or do not recall there was such an incident, I have posted the link below and it should direct you to the moment where they announced the rewards.
youtube
(Video Source: Genshin Impact on YouTube, Version 4.4 Special Program Video)
It is just like the TIkToker said in his video. There is a difference when saying "😭❤️I appreciate you guys❤️😭" and "😐I appreciate you guys😐".
Of course, we all would like to have the first one, but unfortunately, the young announcer was more towards the second one.
For the record, I don't blame him. He could have been tired, or had a bad day, and it is totally fine. I think what really pisses players off is, truthfully, the timing of everything.
This is where I get back to my previous point earlier. HSR gave out a free featured 5-star character within its first year release, and Genshin is giving out only three intertwined fates, along with some other things, as an appreciation gift for the three years support.
It is time to make a statement here, people.
Hoyoverse, it is not about the way the message was delivered. It is about the blatant favoritism you are showing through your games. We all get that Honkai Impact 3rd was the game that pulled you guys to the top and it is perfectly fine if that game has a special place in everybody's hearts in the Hoyoverse company. But it is not right to do things like this.
I'd rather Hoyoverse take back the 5-star character in HSR to make it fair across all games. To be honest, if Hoyoverse doesn't start to treat Genshin with more respect it deserves, the game is essentially going to lose a lot of players.
I have said my piece. I know Hoyoverse is never going to look at this but I really hope that they realise that what they are doing to the non-Honkai games is really creating animosity between themselves and the player-base.
Alright, so, congrats to those of you making it this far down here. I honestly think that I may have lost some of you guys half-way through the posts because it's technically the same as what everybody else is saying.
I am not going to prevent you guys from commenting or giving your opinions on the matter, but, just keep it civil, okay? 😉 Even if you don't want to, it's fine as well. I am just glad you read through the whole thing.

Improving Your Writing when English Isn’t Your First Language (mega-ask)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As you can see above, we've gotten more than one question about writing, improving your writing, and even publishing in English when it's not your native language. First off: that's awesome. To anyone writing or even consuming in a language that's not your first, kudos to you.
You can google any variation of this question and get different articles with a ton of the same advice, and some with conflicting advice. Not only have I compiled the most commonly repeated information, but I've also reached out to people on our Discord server and others for their personal experiences.
I'll start off by listing concise versions of the advice and then expound on them further on in the article. Remember that we are not experts on your writing and that everyone learns in different ways and at different paces. These are in no particular order.
-be patient
-practice
-get feedback from native sources
-don't undermine yourself to your audience
-Grammarly
-research
-don't get discouraged
Be patient
That's first because, well, duh. Patience is so important for both yourself and your writing. Writing is hard enough of a passion without the added difficulty of doing it in a language that doesn't come naturally. In the world of literature, writing/publishing in your non-native language isn't just a matter of translating words. It requires translating of ideas, concepts, and even cultural norms, which is why just slapping it into Google translate won't work.
Part of the reason for the advice of having patience, too, is that writing in your native language needs to take time. It doesn't really matter how fast you can whip out 20 pages of a first draft--it'll still be a simple first draft. Writing is a craft that requires not just love and passion but time. So what if you need a little bit of extra time--or a lot of extra time--because you're accomplishing a feat most don't even think about attempting?
Next is to practice.
That goes hand in hand with what I said about being patient. Again, writing in and of itself is all about practice and doing it daily (not that I'm an expert on getting that done, but you know). But when it comes to practice another language, there are different ways you can do that. You can reach out to native speakers (for English, there are going to be so many people willing to help, even just in our community! you just need to ask) and practice having conversations or ask them to look over your work. Practice by turning on your favorite movie or TV show in English with subtitles in your native language. Watch videos on YouTube, find a Spotify playlist/podcast, in your target language. There's also plenty of people who have done what you're trying to do who have shared their experiences and what helped them on those same platforms.
Get feedback from native speakers
This is a bit of an expansion on what I mentioned in the previous paragraph. In my experience, and from what others have shared, writing in a non-native language can be pretty clinical. Writing with figurative language or in metaphors won't be as easy or come as naturally as it does in your own language. Things like idioms and even pop cultures reference aren't always going to translate even if you have the exact words. That's where native speakers come into play. If they're willing to look over your work, whether as a friend or in an editorial position, they can give you advice about whether the wording in one spot sounds clunky or if a phrase doesn't make sense or if there're synonyms for what you already used to help convey your message even stronger.
Don't undermine yourself
This is something that I personally am saying. It's not mentioned on any of the linked sites, and no one I talked to said it. But as someone who is a native English speaker (and even has a degree in it) I think this is super important. This point goes towards native English speakers/writers, too. Don't undersell yourself and undermine your work to the audience before they have even picked it up. Disclaimers are different, and it all comes down to the words you use and how you use them. Let your readers know, whether it's people on AO3 or a literary agent, that English isn't your first language. Let them know concisely that they may find some basic errors--but stop there. Don't grovel. You have nothing to apologize for, especially once you've given that warning (those is it really a warning? what's so dangerous or scary about a few mistakes?). You're writing is not going to be any less of an accomplishment for a few grammatical errors, or mistranslated phrases, or even typos. I've seen so many mistakes in published works that it's kind of ridiculous. But if you put something out there for someone to read and in the same breath say "I don't know that this is worth reading" I'm going to need extra convincing to pick it up. *kicks soapbox away*
Grammarly
*NOT sponsored*
Grammarly is a wonderful tool that you can use, for FREE. It not only (with the free version) helps correct spelling and grammar, but can also help point out the tone you're writing with. For example, right now, Grammarly is telling me that this writing sounds mostly informative--which it's meant to be--and a little appreciative and friendly. When sending emails I've had it tell me that it sounds formal (which I was going for), and I've also had it not say anything because the text was a different kind of writing (like when I'm proof-reading something being posting it on AO3...). I honestly don't know what else it helps with once you've paid because I've been happily using the free version for about 3 years now.
Research
Don't be afraid to pick up a book, or head to the library, or pull up Google. Research is paramount to writing anyway, let alone once you're doing it in another language. Your research options are limitless and can include your mutuals on social media as well as those dictionaries that translate from one language into another. Research can also include (in my humble opinion) binge-watching/reading your favorite things...in English. In four years of university, one of the most frequently said things was to improve your writing 1) write every day and 2) read every day. You're never going to learn from worrying or overthinking, and you're also never going to learn from just doing DuoLingo (that's more conversational than literary anyway).
Something a member of Discord specifically said in relation to research was to look at morphology, at the roots of words (and root words). Morphology is, in linguistics, looking at how words are formed. For example, let's look at "biology". There are parts to this word that each has a different meaning, that formed together created a new/elevated meaning. "ology" means the study of something, and bio means life. So biology is, simply, the study of life. Once you've got those basics of things like "ology" under your belt it'll become easier to not just translate words but the concepts (if this works with your learning style).
Last but not least, don't get discouraged.
Writers of all kinds get discouraged when writing in their native language. Even those of us who speak English as our first language make mistakes worth discouragement (you will never know how many typos were corrected by Grammarly as I wrote this all out the first time). English is not an easy language. It's not the hardest, but it's far from easy (learning another language isn't easy regardless of what languages are involved). This is a post from someone who is a non-native English speaker but you would never know unless they told us.
While researching for this, I found some articles/blog posts that said mostly the same thing, and are where I got some of the information
This one is from a native English speaker giving advice
This one is for writing for non-native English readers, but still has good advice
And finally this one is a blog post (I think) from someone who is a non-native English speaker!
In specific response to some of the asks:
English, like any other language, changes. It's a very dynamic language, actually, and from region to region, there will not only be different accents but different frames of reference. 1950 isn't so far back in time for the English to be drastically different from what is spoken today, but I'm in the USA and you're asking about Oxford. English in England has very different nuances, even more so than you would get between California and Texas and New York. This is a link to the Oxford English Dictionary list of words that became more common in the 50s. However, this is a generalized list, not specific to any English-speaking country let alone region or city. If you're wanting to look at how to convey the accent of people from/in Oxford, there are videos on YouTube of people speaking in different accents so that you can have an idea, a comparison, at least in your own mind. With the 50s it's going to be more just thinking really of what words and lifestyles and things weren't around yet; cell phones didn't exist yet. Here's another link to some stock images of Oxford in the 50s. Remember, this time was very close to WWII so there'll be lingering effects of that, especially in England.
About fight scenes and curses, there's a ton of resources on that. If you just search "fight" on our page, you'll get a ton of posts answering that question. Also, here's a link to a superb and excellent source on writing fight scenes. When it comes to curses...just watch Rage Quit on YouTube, or spend a while on TikTok. If you want to dive right in just Google "English curses" and there'll be YouTube videos, entries on Urban Dictionary, you name it.
When it comes to publishing, once you've gotten your manuscript is a perfect time to have a native-speaking friend look it over. Whether editing is their thing or not, they'll be able to help with the things that are really obvious. I don't have any experience publishing in a different language, though, so there might be other resources along the different stages to help you. Some general publishing advice I've gotten: when wanting to publish fiction, literature, start small. Start with short stories in literary journals, online and in print. You really can't make much headway with large publishing houses without a literary agent and it'll be easier to attract one if you have evidence that you can write, and write well enough people want to read it. When it comes to poetry, just start submitting. Get familiar with the process, and educate yourself on things like simultaneous submissions and a good rejection. Publishing is an ever-changing game that isn't cut and dry in any language or country. We can't tell you what's best, but my advice is to go with your gut and try your best. Don't be afraid to try again, too.
Everyone overthinks their writing. Or at least, everyone I know who writes does. Honestly, in my opinion, if you're not overthinking at least a little bit, you're not worried enough. You will never be able to fully know whether you've explained or described enough. A good chunk of the experience is up to the readers, so you have to leave them some wiggle room for imagination. But that doesn't mean you have to cheapen your story or short-change your characters. You mention specifically that you're POC, which I'm gonna guess also means that your characters will be POC. It's never too much to specify the race/ethnicity of your characters, even in a fantasy work. How you go about writing those descriptions might need to change but it's kind of like chocolate chips, in my mind: you decide those things with your soul.
So, there you have it. A ridiculously long way to say: you're awesome, you do you, practice, love yourself and your writing, and don't be afraid to put yourself out there (in any way).

Anonymous said: Hi there, I’m a writer for almost 3 years now but since English isn’t my first language I get discouraged easily if things I write come off strange to myself. Do you maybe have any advice for me, on how to motivate myself and not comparing myself with native English speakers? Thank you in advance!
Anonymous said: Hello! I starting to work on this shortfic but it’s been really hard. It’s like I’m trying to building a house alone and with my bare hands. Even though I’m already used to write in mother tongue. Any advice for non-english speaker trying to write their first story in English?

gyger said: I am not a native english speaker, but most of the books I read are in english and I generally prefer writing in english as well. However, I am worried about making mistakes that I can’t recognize myself. I have no idea how good my english is to a native english speaker, plus some things are easier to write in my native tongue (such as dialogue). I’m also worried about publishing, since that definitely would be easier in my country than abroad. How do I decide what language to choose?
Anonymous said: As a POC writer and English as their second language, I overthink all the writing I do. I feel like I don’t describe my ideas thoroughly or my character descriptions are vague or not good enough. I’m currently working on a YA novel but I plan on writing a YA fantasy novel but I feel like my lack of vocabulary and grammar structure makes me give up on finishing my book. Is this normal for native English speaking authors or is this considered a language barrier thing? Thanks! Love your blog!
Thank you for your questions, and for your patience as we do our best to answer them.

A Response To AsapSCIENCE’S Video On Abortion, And Why It’s Actually An Biased Video On Abortion
https://youtu.be/vWKqeJxzeBc
Perhaps the thing that has always annoyed me the most is bias among the mainstream media, especially when it comes to abortion. Nobody wants to talk about the adamantly pro-choice bias in the mainstream media, although ironically the polls among American show that in general Americans are somewhat divided for abortion. There are as much as pro-choicers as there were pro-life people (Abortion). They start to become less supporting later on in the trimesters, a good bit of them are pro-life. The mainstream media, however doesn’t reflect that, simply typing up abortion into the search bar of YouTube, Google, etc. will show videos and articles echoing an pro-choice opinion that abortion and is an women’s right, such examples can be found here. Tumblr, recently also defended abortion, bringing a political topic, the staff speaking on an political opinion and potentially dividing there fan base, however that isn’t necessarily surprising, internet websites such as YouTube, are notorious for brining up political comments. This is what popped up when I typed, “abortion” into the search bar.
“You never faces these choices“, Jen Paski tells reporter on anti-abortion question

- Washington Post
What’s It Like To Work At A Texas Abortion Group Right Now
- MSNBC
“The news media consistently use language and images that frame the entire abortion debate in terms that implicitly favor abortion-rights advocates.
Abortion-rights advocates are often quoted more frequently and characterized more favorably than are abortion opponents.
Events and issues favorable to abortion opponents are sometimes ignored or given minimal attention by the media.
Many news organizations have given more prominent play to stories on rallies and electoral and legislative victories by abortion-rights advocates than to stories on rallies and electoral and legislative victories by abortion rights opponents.
Columns of commentary favoring abortion rights outnumber those opposing abortion by a margin of more than 2 to 1 on the op-ed pages of most of the nation's major daily newspapers.
Newspaper editorial writers and columnists alike, long sensitive to violations of First Amendment rights and other civil liberties in cases involving minority and anti-war protests, have largely ignored these questions when Operation Rescue and other abortion opponents have raised them.
Most media organizations, including the Associated Press , the world's largest news agency, use the label "pro-choice", the preferred label of abortion-rights advocates, but not "pro-life", the preferred label of those who oppose abortion. During the first nine months of 1989, the TV networks used "pro-choice" in 74% of their references to abortion-rights advocates and used "pro-life" in only 6% of their references to abortion opponents.
Abortion opponents are often described as "conservatives"; abortion-rights supporters are rarely labeled as "liberals." Abortion opponents are sometimes identified as Catholics (or fundamentalist Christians), even when their religion is not demonstrably relevant to a given story; abortion-rights advocates are rarely identified by religion. Abortion opponents are often described as "militant" or "strident"; such characterizations are seldom used to describe abortion-rights advocates, many of whom can also be militant or strident -- or both.
When the Supreme Court issued Roe, initial news accounts emphasized the part of the ruling that said a woman would be allowed to have an abortion without restriction during the first three months of pregnancy. Even now, some in the media write about Roe in terms that suggest it legalized abortion only during that first trimester, even though it made abortion legal for any reason throughout the first and second trimesters of pregnancy (and for broadly-defined "health" reasons even in the third).
The Alan Guttmacher Institute in New York is probably the single-most widely quoted source for studies and statistics on abortion, for example, but the media rarely point out that the institute is special affiliate of Planned Parenthood of America, a major leader in the battle for abortion rights.
The media is generally careful to include comments from abortion-rights advocates in stories about abortion protests, but coverage of abortion-rights activities sometimes fail to include balancing comments from abortion opponents.
When Roman Catholic bishops individually spoke out on abortion or, collectively, hired a public relations firm to aid them in the battle against abortion, some in the media grumbled about the church's intrusion into the political arena. Similar media lamentations were forthcoming when bishops criticized (and raised the specter of ex-communication for) public officials who refuse to oppose abortion. But no such criticism was levied at the bishops in earlier years, when they endorsed a nuclear freeze or opposed Reagan Administration economic policies.
The major media paid no attention to the discovery by Bob Woodward of the Washington Post that two justices who had played a major role in the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion had conceded, in private memos, that they knew they were "legislating policy and exceeding (the court's) authority as the interpreter, not the maker of law," as Woodward wrote.
"When pro-choice candidates win, it is perhaps more easily accepted than it should be that their pro-choice position was the reason, and when pro-life candidates win, perhaps it is more easily accepted (than it should be) that that was really irrelevant to the race," says Douglas Bailey, an abortion-rights supporter who publishes the nonpartisan "Abortion Report," a daily compendium of news on abortion and politics. There have been a number of races in which the media said an abortion-rights advocate's victory showed the political strength of that movement when, in fact, most of the votes in the race actually went to anti- abortion candidates.” - Abortion Bias Seeps Into News
The mainstream media often uses language that favors abortion, and it shows in the way they cover it. You also, might find an article that is neutral towards the process of abortion, but you most likely won’t find an article that does not abortion and wants it to be illegal unless you directly search for it.
It’s not hard to spot an pro-life article or an pro-choice article, they’ll use words such as “unborn children“, if there pro-life, perhaps because they think fetus will come off as dehumanizing as the mainstream media has turned the medical term “fetus” into an dehumanizing word, although some will or might use the word “fetus”. An pro-choice article might even be less likely to use the word “unborn baby”, as it will humanize the fetus. So, they often use the word “fetus” as we don’t really have an emotional response to the word fetus or even an emotional response at all, the same way if we had heard the word “baby” or ”child”. Some might say that when you have an abortion you remove fetal tissue, pregnancy tissue, emptying the uterus, as well as emptying contents. Pro-lifers will use language such as, dismemberment, poison, unborn child, etc.
And, although these are all true, these are often times active attempts to avoid words that might humanize the fetus, or dehumanize the fetus. We might find that pro-choicers undermine what an abortion is, where as pro-lifers overplay it. Regardless, it should be known that I am pro-life, I have no intention to hide it, but I do believe multiple things about abortion.
I believe abortion is the termination of an fetus.
I believe abortion ends an human pregnancy.
I believe abortion kills an human fetus.
I believe abortion ends or can end an heartbeat.
I believe abortion kills an human being.
I believe abortion kills an unborn child, multiple medical websites, legal websites, etc call it exactly that. (Anatomy: Fetus in Utero, Slideshow: Fetal Development Month by Month, What's It Like in the Womb?, Fetal Development: Stages of Growth, Intrauterine Growth Restriction (IUGR), Limiting Risks for Your Unborn Baby, I’m pregnant. Can I get an STD?, What happens if your unborn baby dies?, Extragonadal Germ Cell Tumors)
I started off this post talking about bias in the mainstream media when it comes to abortion, because of what happens in the beginning of the video.
“56 million abortions occur annually worldwide and though opinions of the matter are strong, many are simply unaware of how they actually work, so regardless of whether your actually pro-life or pro-choice, what actually happens during an abortion?”
* 0:00 - 0:13 at the beginning of the video
Listening to this, you would think was an unbiased attempt to really get to the heart of abortion, however if you look into the description of the media, you’ll see this video was actually made as an case for abortion, pretending that they didn’t have a motive in making this video at all. In the description it says this, ”Alabama is making a mistake with rolling back abortion rights. Find out why with real science!“
Tumblr media
“Abortion procedures range from taking a pill to surgical options, often based on availibility or how far an pregnancy is along.”
0:15 - 0:21
This is, of course true. Depending on how developed the fetus is, she can take an pill or have an surgical abortion. If it gets too developed, she’ll have an surgical abortion.
”And, 92% of legal US abortions take place within the first 13 weeks of gestation.”
This is of course downplaying how many late-term abortions there actually are, even though the percentage is correct, that doesn’t talk about the actual numbers, and it’s a lot due to the fact that we have so many abortions per year. This perhaps could shock a whole lot of people. Because even a lot of pro-choicers feel uncomfortable about late-term abortion, 79% of pro-choice people believe that abortion should be illegal in the third trimester, and 52% thinks that abortion should be illegal in the second trimester.
Tumblr media
But in reality, we have thousands of abortion after 13 weeks of gestation.

Ten ways your business can create marketing content to reach more customers
Content marketing is a strategy focusing on creating, publishing, and distributing relevant and valuable marketing and brand content, designed to engage your target market. The aim is to connect with your audience and build relationships, instead of simply informing about new products and promotions. This week, I talk about what content marketing is and why your business needs to be doing it, as well as ten popular types of content marketing you can use to grow your brand.
What is Content Marketing?
Content marketing typically focuses on social media networks, using content such as video to start conversations, engaging your audience, creating brand awareness, increasing loyalty and driving leads. The aim is to add value for customers independently of any products sold, a value that will one day be reciprocated in sales results. The long-term goal is sales, but the short-term goal is engagement.
Brands share stories to make the audience more familiar with them. Content is relevant, compelling and aims to engage customers at the right point in their buying consideration process.
“Many long-term benefits such as building brand loyalty by engaging with the target audience with valuable content without employing promotional techniques” (Pulizzi 2012b)
For more about Content Marketing, including a 15 minute video, see 50 Weeks of Marketing.
The Rise of Content Marketing
Over the past ten years, social media communities have become more prominent, and the popularity of businesses using content marketing has exploded as a branding tool. The digital world is saturated with assorted brands, so to remain relevant businesses must start conversations with potential customers in the multiple ranges of social media communities.
Content marketing is so attractive because of the typical high return on investment compared to other forms of traditional advertising. On average, businesses using content marketing gain more than twice as many leads as those who do not.
“Content marketing has become a leading marketing technique in digital marketing communication and uses the point of view of consumers to build relationships by creating and sharing engaging content in social media that enhance their daily lives.”
Your Content Strategy
You should have some sort of plan or goal with your content creation strategy. Know what your goal is. Your content needs to align with the tone of your brand and how you want to promote your content. Who is your content designed to reach? Why will they benefit from your message? Consider you are speaking to (your target market), What is the best way to communicate to them, and where the best place to reach these people is. If you are focusing on the gaming community, you would focus on YouTube rather than LinkedIn for example.
Ten ways you can use content marketing
When you first start producing content, it is important to focus your time and energy on what you are good at and what type of content your target audience would most like to consume. What type of content are you good at creating? Are you good on camera? Graphic design skills?
It would make sense to utilise your skills and use that primarily. Use formats that your audience already uses. Does your audience like watching long-form tutorial videos such as on YouTube? Or do they prefer a vivid photo on Instagram or an Infographic on Pinterest?
Blogging
For many businesses, blogs are central to their content marketing strategy. The advantages of a blog are you can sit down and write it in a couple of hours, or even 20 minutes. The length can be under 1000 words. They are also great for SEO, which means Google finds them easily. Blogs also drive engagement and shares. Some studies suggest that around 60 per cent of online purchases are made because of a customer reading a blog and posting four blogs a week can increase your website traffic by more than three times those posting less than once a week.
Tips for writing your own blog:
· Supply value and expertise. This builds a stronger relationship with current customers and builds credibility with prospective customers.
· Build a relationship with your readers with consistent and high-quality posts drives great traffic to your site. Some tips for writing a blog:
· Post at least once a week. Leave it too long and you can lose any following you started. Consistency is key. Update old posts and those that have done well.
· Link to other content. You can link to external social media or other pages on your site such as free tools or similar blog posts.
· Call to action. Have one of these at the start and end of a blog. You want people to keep going further with you. The end goal is to leads or a sale. Some of the posts can be aimed at how you supply a solution to people or centred around your brand.
· Optimise your blog for keywords. This will help people find your blog, and help customers find you. Find out what people are searching for when they are looking for product/service like yours and create topic around the content they might be looking for.
Video
Videos are a great form of content to grab your audience’s attention and engage them quickly. People share videos more on social media than other forms of content. Video content is becoming increasingly popular in the age of the smartphone. A third of the time spent online is by people watching video content and four times more people would rather watch a video about a product than read about it. These could be a product review or a how-to video. Brands that use video can expect to see more than twice as much traffic from search engines and improve the average time spent on their web pages by just over double, and landing pages with video content has a higher conversion rate, garnering up to 80% increase.
To use videos in your content, you can post is straight to the platform, or host it on YouTube. When it is on YouTube, it is easy to embed the videos into blog posts. All videos should offer value, and at the end of every video, you should include a call to action to send them further along the sales funnel. Send them to your website or landing page for a product.
I have embedded this post video on Community from YouTube.

Social Media Posts
Posting on social media is by far the most popular form of content marketing. Many businesses post on Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn daily, to help reach their audience and nurture relationships. Social media is so popular because it is easy to reach potential customers, without them having to go look for you. While they scroll through the platform feed, amongst posts from friends and colleagues, your post can come up.
The ability to reach new audiences is also a powerful advantage of using social media. Social media content can be used to drive sales, but social media should be used to start a conversation with consumers and engage your target audience. Make sure that you have a mix of promotional and informational content across your social media channels.
All other nine types of content listed in this article; you can link through your social media. It is an important gateway to further content that can lead to an eventual sale.
Infographics
Infographics are an image that uses information and visuals to explain how something works in a way that is visually interesting and easily digestible. An infographic aims to educate your audience by providing useful information that adds value. This increases your credibility as someone who could solve their problem.
Any information that would receive help from a visual aid would be an excellent choice for an infographic. It can help people through visualise data, for example, statistics could be summarised with visual representations, charts, and graphics. Infographics are often shared on social media, which is a useful source of backlinks (link to your website through the image. Keep your designs simple and clean with plenty of white space, and not overloaded with text. Organise it into sections if you need to make it easier to follow.
Long-form Content
Long-form content is similar to a blog or eBook. Hosted on your website, Long-form is a terrific way to drive traffic and build thought leadership on a certain topic. Create a “how-to guide” or “Ultimate Guide” is a popular form of long-form content. The length is usually between five and ten thousand words, separated into chapters like eBooks. Make it free and readily available on your website. Break it down into sections - each chapter a new page on your website. Promote it heavily to drive traffic to your website.
White Papers
White papers are an information-dense form of content that offers a detailed solution or data on a specific topic. Similarly, to eBooks, White Papers are a piece of long-form content, the main difference being that white papers are more data-driven, detail-focused and information-dense. White papers should focus on a frequent problem of your target market and offer a solution. Well suited for B2B (business to business), they are a great tool to sell your business’s products or services and build your credibility as a thought leader. Again, it is a piece of gated content on your website or landing page (also called a lead magnet) requiring the “lead” to supply information about themselves to access the piece of free content. Some businesses are willing to give up more information about themselves than just an email to access a white paper.
eBook
It might feel a little overwhelming to write an eBook, but it is easier than you think, and they are great long-term lead magnets. Some people assume you must write something that is a hundred-plus page long. Well, you do not. The reality is, a lot of eBooks can range from ten to thirty pages long. Whatever the length, it must supply value. Do not feel like you must add “fluff” to something because it is not long enough. Often, focused and concise is good. Just supply useful information and your insight into your target audience about their needs and challenges.
A lot of people offer a product or a solution at the end of an eBook, which is fine. But it should not be more than 5 per cent of the content. It is not about selling to your audience, it is about building a relationship with target consumers so that they trust your brand and come to you when they are ready to make a purchase.
Example of an eBook landing page:
Tumblr media
Again, eBook can be gated from your website, so you get an email in return. Writing an eBook can take a lot of time energy but can be outsourced. Often the leads that you will generate through this piece of gated content will provide an attractive return on investment.
Case Study
Case studies examine a specific business scenario in-depth, the case usually from your own business. The aim is to show your knowledge and how you supplied successful action, supplying social proof of the value you supply you customer or clients. Instead, done in a way that is not like an advertisement. It is how you supply a solution to a problem the reader may be having. You highlight how your service or product is applied to have a favourable outcome - help people understand how your business can help them and add value to them or their business. Helps build trust with new leads.
Case studies should follow this format:
· Summary of the study
· Explain the problem
· Explain your solution
· What were the results and why they matter?
Do not make your case study a boring summary of the results, write it like a story to engage the reader on the journey. If you can get a video testimonial from a client, that is a powerful form of case study content.
Check List
Checklists are a type of worksheet that supply a list of things to do in a step-by-step process to achieve some type of the desired outcome. These are great content assets for small businesses because they are easy to create and promote, yet still supply a significant value for the target audience. Checklist downloads are great lead magnets. They supply value as they are actionable, and supply a resource that users can utilise repeatedly, and they do not cost a lot of time or money.
Checklists should have a clean organization and have a concise copy. Lots of whitespaces and include your branding down the bottom. You can promote them at the end of blog posts for example and offer them in exchange for an email subscription sign-up.
Podcast / Interview
Interviews with industry experts, typically in the format of a podcast have grown in popularity in recent times. They are a long-form of content, and usually a discussion on a certain topic. This is a fantastic way to supply information to people who prefer to listen or watch as opposed to reading a long piece of writing. Again, they help to position your company as an expert in your industry. Podcasts have become a popular form of marketing content, which is an interview with someone interesting to say, usually 30 to 60 minutes long. Podcasts can be downloaded or streamed to a personal device for convenience.
You could utilise Facebook or LinkedIn Live, YouTube, have a transcript on your blog or you could be interviewed yourself by other podcasters or YouTubers. Make sure the material provides value for your target audience, choose interview subjects that can offer useful insight and information on the topics they care about.
That's it from this week's blog.
In summary, ten types of content your business should be using are:
· Blogging · Video · Social Media Posts · Infographics · White Paper · Long-form Content · Case Study · eBook · Checklist · Podcast / Interview
Good luck with your content creation!

on Misinformation
The concept of the truth is...interesting.  Religious people will discuss it regarding the authenticity of their texts.  Legal representatives treat it as their bread and butter.  To a journalist, the truth is what matters, and unbiased truth is the gold standard.  Everyone has their intentions, and I like to think that the vast majority of people, when they help disseminate information, intend to do good.
...Which is why some of the things I’ve seen on social media these past few years have been disturbing.
Smarter Every Day has an entire three-part series, probably no more than an hour in total, in which he interviews social media scientists on their efforts to identify and quell misinformation.  A lot of misinformation is political in nature.  They have verified that both the president of the United States and the CEO of Twitter have reposted things from non-credible sources.  More so than this, the sources themselves were fake.  They were a foreign organization attempting to pose as a popular American, Trump supporting organization, and a completely made-up persona, respectively.
It transcends party lines, this continual spreading of misinformation.  In 2016, hours after Trump won, a series of videos and other posts came out.  One that appeared on my timeline was of a woman at a specific college who approached a Trump supporter rally.  Someone harassed her, then when she walked away they attacked.  She got in a fight and started to win, but when the police arrived they arrested her.
This didn’t happen.  There was no evidence that this actually happened.  By the time the police department itself denied that this ever occured and by the time she herself took the post down, multiple news sources simply reposted what she originally said.  The majority of people who saw it probably didn’t think twice.
We’ve already identified this kind of misinformation taking place on both sides.  One trick is to reverse google images; another is to take the few minutes of searching the original source.  But it can be really hard.  The only reason this story stuck out was because of the red flags it raised.  I had a neighbor once, who got his tires slashed, and it may or may not have been a hate crime.  That’s how it usually goes.  Hate crime can be difficult to prove.  It’s not very often that someone will carry out a crime, announce the politician they support, and then flee.
*****
I am not qualified to definitively state what happened or didn’t happen at the Dive Bar, a place I occasionally travel to for drinks, back in July.  What I do know is that a woman claimed that this bar attempted to drug her, the police investigated, no evidence was found from 24 hours of camera footage, and the police investigation concluded.
What really happened?  It’s probably pretty complicated.  Maybe this woman was malevolent toward the particular bar, but maybe she simply made a mistake.  Or maybe it did happen, it just seems...unlikely.  Yet people continue to repost the story, including multiple people I have Facebook friends with.  There were other unsubstantiated claims made on social media against the bar.  Maybe there’s more to the story.  But whoever shares this story is usually a person no more qualified to have a claim on a matter than me.
The next thing I’m approaching, at this point in time, is whether sex traffickers abduct women by putting random items on their cars (like honey).  I’ve read dozens of YouTube comments, already, that claim this is indeed the case.  But I don’t get it.  Do sex traffickers routinely capture people at parking lots?  What is their game plan?  How do they keep these people under control?  I don’t have evidence that this occurs or doesn’t occur, I’m just surprised that it isn’t easier for me to find full accounts on people abducted in this manner.
*****
A little while ago, I got a LinkedIn message from someone inquiring about the Splunk (a big data company) technical writer internship.  She was actually already accepted, and I looked into her background and read some about some of her work.  Her focus was misinformation: She would model it, she would research it, and she would write her findings down.
It’s fascinating stuff, but it’s still sort of sad that this kind of thing has to be researched so thoroughly.
We’re all intelligent people.  We can approach things from a logical, scientific sort of perspective.  And we have the capacity to be fair in our evaluation of the truth.
But now we have the ability to do damage to a reputation in a matter of minutes.  All it takes is a post.  Then people will perpetuate that, without properly taking the time and research to investigate authenticity.  It’s all emotion, no logic.  Emotion without logic is lunacy.
With proper time and consideration, this sort of research can lead to justice and the punishment on those responsible for carrying out crimes.  Without proper time and consideration, it’s just misinformation.

To simply the above definition we can say that digital marketing is just like any other type of marketing which includes advertisements but on a more digital scale. Just like we put billboards, poster and other sorts of mediums through which we promote our products. In digital marketing, we mainly use the internet for the means of use promotion but in digital marketing, we also use a mobile phone, televisions and display advertisements etc.

As we have discussed above the different types of digital marketing. Now we are going in-depth to discuss these types because above we only talked about its types.
Let us start off our list with the following:
Content Marketing:
Content marketing is simply put is putting all of your data out on the internet. There are different ways through which you can put our data on the internet. We know a few methods like a podcast, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, blogs etc. They provide us with the medium through which we can provide our data with other users.
Facebook provides us with the means to send our data out there in the form of text, audio, video etc. This helps us give our data out to the people we know about.
Instagram is the same is Facebook through which we can send the relevant data to piers we know about in the form of video or images.
In the case of YouTube, we can send our data like different videos like if I have a motivational or a funny then that thing is my content which I am putting out for different people to read.
The podcast is much like modern day radio through which we get to provide our subscribers to listen to our content in the form of audio.
Blogs are also an excellent way to provide viewers with pour content. It more or less like a diary in which the person provides them their own ideas and reviews about certain things.
Above mentioned is a good example of content marketing. Hopefully, this will give a good idea about it. This is only a single point of digital marketing and its types.
Online Advertising:
Online advertising is the management of different ads on different websites like Google, Facebook, YouTube etc. The heading of this point self-explanatory but we will continue on further. In modern-day and age advertising has become a source of income. In contrast to normal advertising online line advertising is done on the internet.
People place their ads on their site and when people come to visit their sites then the ad gets views and the owner on that site gets paid. We have seen many examples of such types on Facebook, YouTube and Google etc. Whenever we play a video on Facebook or YouTube an ad pops up every now and then and there are some ads on the sides as well. There are some sites which are filled with advertisements and such sites go downhill very quickly.
Hopefully this all of the viewers out they are a good idea regarding online advertising in digital marketing.
Native Advertisements:
In digital marketing this type of digital marketing native advertisement is similar to online advertisements but in native, we promote different articles via different means. We use different means like Outbrain, Tabula, Paulista or Lockerdom etc.

Hopefully, this gives a good idea of native advertisements in online marketing and types of online marketing.
Marketing Automation:
This is one of the most influential parts of digital marketing. This a full automation of your advertising marketing process using different software. This software is used to optimism your market process so that it more optimal and can bring in more and more traffic. There are various roles assigned to a person with such work. It is a continues job which includes always updating your website.
Without Marketing Automation a person can face very difficult circumstances in digital marketing because there are some people out there who do marketing automation as their breed and butter. This is their living.
Email Marketing:
Email marketing is writing email sequences according to the email campaign. This is a very complicated part because you have to adapt to the requests of the customers' requests. For example, you have to write an email for a campaign of 30 days or even 1 week etc. This purely depends on the customers needs. They also depend on the process of services, delivery etc.

FMP Research
Initial Research
For the initial research into my FMP, I drew up a brainstorm of different ideas what I could do for my FMP which were encompassing the different subjects like video, photography and graphic design. Each subject having a plethora of different ideas within spanning different topics, such as documentaries, short films about trans awareness, short films about Autism, photoshoots of landscapes or pollution awareness or game design etc.
As part of the initial research, I did a quick google of bizarre images involving food, i.e. Marshmallows or cookies. I wanted images that would provide almost no context, while invoking the imagination and intriguing the viewer, so they’d get curious on what it could be and want to find out more.
Target Audience Research
With my research into target audiences, I conducted a online survey to help determine who my target audience is based on demographic and psychographic profiling. My research shows my short film needs to mainly appeal to people between the ages of 16-18, so the minds of that group are still going to be immature enough to appreciate something bizarre.
The other results also show that my key demographic are people who enjoy fantasy, horror and comedy films, which works in my favour due to the fact that my short film fits under the horror/comedy boundaries, albeit very light horror fit for a small child.
My research did also show that my target audience do like/or are open to changes in their favourite films, though some feel like it depends on what the changes are.
Finally, my research showed that my target audience do love cookies, as long as raisin isn’t involved; which is perfect for me as cookies is paramount to my film.
Main Inspiration
My main source of inspiration for my video is actually a song. The song is called Cookies! by Ninja Sex Party, from the album “Attitude Party”, released in 2016. Cookies! Is in a comedy sketch format telling the story of a hard-core Metal guy who sits down and enjoys a plate of cookies, while the cookies are mistaking him for a demon and are freaking out over the fact they are being consumed. While managing to keep a light-hearted, hilarious tone to it. This song gave me the idea for my FMP, carrying strong inspirational vibes with it, it mainly gave me the conceptual idea and stemmed from it, was the other elements from it.

Brian and David have been influencing my work by helping me decide what kind of vibe or groove I want my backing music to have. When Brian worked on “Cookies” for Ninja Sexs Party, the music goes through transitions of upbeat, cheery vibes and dramatic, heavy metal music with a build up between the cheery music and the dramatic metal music.

Starbomb:(https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuEOrLv3pYGDZ4ukrfeqf0Q)
Another major source of inspiration for me is an aged YouTube short known as Marshmallow Murder, created by a channel called Daneboe, most famous for Annoying Orange. It’s an old sketch what most people have seen by now but it makes good use of camera focusing, depth of field, composition and after effects to create something intriguing and seemingly innocent to watch despite the nature of the name. The after effects they use for the video are mainly used to apply human like faces onto the marshmallows that are able to show emotion. The animation and editing looks jarring to some but overall, the style is charming in a weird, eccentric way. It’s something you’d watch once and then never forget because of how much of a major black sheep it is on YouTube, back in the days when content creators had free reign of what they could put onto the service.
This has infuenced my work by helping me decide how to execute the sweet and innocent theme and transition it into something weird and possibly scary depending on who the viewer  is. It has

Legality
When it comes to my short film, the legality and ethics of it is very important to avoid any legality altercations taking place about copyright or trespassing upon private property if location recce wasn’t thorough enough.
With copyright, I need to be careful with how I use props and locations. For example, for the cookie props, I cannot claim I made them and pass them off as my property when the they could be from a supermarket under an already existing brand such as Maryland for example. As long as I don’t claim copyright and ownership of the cookies, it’s a healthy amount of product placement when viewed innocently.
For filming and editing, I cannot use the likeness of someone or something else without permission from the copyright holders. I need to think about the practicality and keep things simple and as original as possible to avoid any legal altercations
BBFC Age Rating: Legality
For my short film, I believe the appropriate age rating is PG. It’s generally light hearted, the violence is simply implied, it’s bright and colourful, there are no drugs or sex references but parents may be advised to watch for really young children, as well as Horror being at almost non-existent or very light. I think PG is a very fair rating but it’s suitable for all, with parental guidance.
Book Inspiration
I drew inspiration from a book about making short films covering different topics like script writing, location, casting etc., written by a professional film maker or crew member of a film maker. I looked at Location and what I need to consider when using a location or multiple locations with the many things you need to consider i.e. lighting, scene times, filming times, transitions between scenes etc. There was a lot covered with a lot of detail which is perfect for a budget film maker. It was very helpful with helping me decide how to make use of my desired locations.
Although, the book is written to appeal to budget film makers who need to make do with what they have who need to put extra consideration into what they want to do. It has influenced my work by addressing the issues a budget film maker needs to work with. With a limited budget who need to think small when it comes to location, can they afford to hire out a hotel room for one scene for example? It influenced me by making me think about what I need to do for future films with no budget and the things I could do. Like consider story progression so the transition from scene to scene occurs naturally and doesn’t feel forced. As well as the importance of considering noise pollution, lighting, the positioning of the props or where to set up the camera.
