i will not forgive asagiri for not AT LEAST making melville and hawthorne partners in bsd
#i am so bitter?? like???#this is queer erasure#ok he might have not altogether learnt so much abt american authors and i was today years old when i learnt of melville's unrequited love#for hawthorne but#they have such a heartbreaking love story?? and it's so apparent?? it's a shame asagiri just straight up overlooked that#and paired hawthorne with mitchell instead (no offense to her i love her)#they are at least historically soukoku level of angst for what#like with fitzgerald and hemmingway you could argue that they are just straight man buddies who are weird abt each other but#melville and hawthorne both wrote themselves as?? lovers?? who wanna run away together?? and fell into a frickin marriage bed??#in their works inspired by each other??#could u get gayer than that.#ive read literal 1800s queer couples' letters to each other and they arent half as gay#im just pissed. they couldve been another rimlaine#speaking of rimlaine i personally think the real life story is wayyyy wilder as well#urgghhh. why. just why#is it too much to want queer rep with historical basis
