…the colossal screw up of Archie's birth announcement
I was not following the royals back then, so I am completely out of the loop with what was happening when Archie was born. There’s so much noise and theories littering this space, that it’s hard to delineate what is actually the screw up and where the theories start and how far plausible goes before it turns into crazy. Do you have a record or write-up you can point me to?
Totally okay if you want to just ignore this ask, though. I know this topic invites unhelpful inputs from people.
Hey, everyone, it's Wednesday! Guess what that means...yup, a super long research project to the dulcet sounds of Top Chef.
I think I'll just give you the whole timeline and then some since there's a lot of debate and discussion around both things.
The Pregnancy
October 12, 2018: Princess Eugenie marries Jack Brooksbanks. Meghan wears a dark navy dress and coat. Only the top buttons of her coat are done, causing immediate speculation that she's expecting.
October 15, 2018: Kensington Palace announces that Harry and Meghan are expecting and the baby is due in the springtime. The royal rota is informed by Jason Knauf over a cell phone in the airport, as they were already in Australia to begin coverage of the Sussexes' tour.
Now, usually when the palace makes these kind of announcements, there's a separate briefing for the royal rota with a few additional details for them to write about. In Rebecca English's article about the pregnancy announcement, she reveals that Meghan had had her 12-week scan, the baby is due in late April 2019, and that they were telling everyone at Eugenie's wedding. The article also reveals that Meghan will visit Tonga and Fiji despite the Zika risk (pregnant women are advised not to travel to areas with the Zika virus due to the risk Zika poses to their baby); it's a controversial decision.
October 15, 2018: Harry and Meghan are papped arriving in Sydney, leaving the airport. Meghan is holding two purple binders, leading to speculation that they are expecting boy-girl twins.
Pippa Middleton gives birth to her first child on October 15th (though it isn't announced for a bit), stealing some of the Sussexes' coverage.
October 15 - 31, 2018: Harry and Meghan are in Australia for the Sydney Invictus Games. They also tour New Zealand, Tonga, and Fiji. There is a ton of gossip and tea about the tour. Meghan is also photographed with a very inconsistent baby belly - sometimes it's there, sometimes it's not.
Also during this time (and into November) is the Sussex press tsunami when these stories were breaking:
"What Meghan wants, Meghan gets"
Meghan smells tastes eggs that aren't there
Meghan made Kate cry
Sussexes are moving out of Kensington Palace
The Sussexes' office is moving to Buckingham Palace; they'll be part of the resource pool that also represents Anne, Yorkies, Edward, Sophie, Kents, and Gloucesters.
Sussexes are leaving The Royal Foundation and setting up The SussexRoyal Foundation.
November 24, 2018: The palace announces that Harry and Meghan are moving to Frogmore Cottage. They will renovate the property from five staff apartments to ten bedrooms, a nursery, a gym, and a yoga studio.
December 18, 2018: Meghan makes a surprise appearance at the British Fashion Awards to recognize Clare Waight Keller (her wedding dress designer) as the British Womenswear Designer of the Year. Allegedly she crashed the event unexpectedly. She is photographed groping her belly the whole time while on stage presenting.
December 25, 2018: During the Christmas walkabout after church, Meghan tells fans that she is "nearly there". It causes confusion because the palace had briefed reporters two months earlier that it was an April baby.
**Anon, this Christmas walk where Meghan says "nearly there" re the baby's due date is where it starts veering off the rails.**
January 14, 2019: Meghan, with Harry, visits Birkenhead for an away day. At the end of the visit when they are leaving, Meghan is observed by some to have lost her belly while developing a new bulge around her mid/lower thighs. (YMMV.)
January 16, 2019: Meghan visits the Mayhew Animal House during the day, in which some people claim to observe her belly folding in and then popping out and others claim to hear a loud popping noise when she stands up. (YMMV.) Later, in the evening, she attends a Cirque du Soleil performance at Royal Albert Hall. This is the night that, as she tells Oprah in March 2021, she felt suicidal and had been crying all day up until just before arriving at the Hall.
February 15 - 20, 2019: Meghan is in New York City to attend a baby shower thrown in her honor by Serena Williams. She stays at the Mark Hotel. Abigail Spencer merches Away luggage. Jess Mulroney and Amal Clooney are some of the guests. Markus Anderson unexpectedly shows up and allegedly, Meghan is upset to see him. There's a ton of paparazzi, which Meghan loves, and the Mark Hotel ropes off the sidewalk for her, which she also loves.
There is a CDAN blind about the baby shower, alleging that Meghan had asked (maybe demanded) the BRF for one but they refused because it's not what they do.
The baby shower causes a lot of questions. There's one instance where Meghan returns from a night out holding a large purse over her stomach area, which is unusual because in every photo since October, Meghan is always showing off her belly.
Meghan leaves NYC by a private jet via Teterboro Airport, assumed to be Amal Clooney's private jet.
This is the end of the Meghan/Amal friendship, as on March 15, 2019, Clarence House announces a partnership between Prince Charles and Amal Clooney establishing the Amal Clooney Award from Prince's Trust International.
February 23 - 25, 2019: Harry and Meghan are in Morocco for an official visit by request of the Foreign Office.
There's speculation that Meghan was planning to attend the Oscars (which are held on February 24, 2019) and allegedly, the BRF caught wind of it and created the Morocco tour to keep her focused on royal work.
Edited to add: After checking my spreadsheet, I realized I missed one - related to speculation/gossip about Meghan attending the Oscars, there’s additional speculation that the BRF planned the Morocco trip to force Meghan to come home from NYC. (I kind of suspect this may be the origin of “they took my passport” claims as told to Oprah because supposedly the palace was upset she had the baby shower and upset she’d gone out of the country to do so.)
March 5, 2019: When Harry and Meghan crash Charles's celebration of the 50th anniversary of his Prince of Wales investiture, Meghan tells people she is "nearly there" still, according to Us Weekly. Us Weekly also reports that a Sussex source had briefed them that the baby was due in the late March/early April timeframe.
March 14, 2019: Commonwealth Day Service. Kensington Palace indirectly confirms that this is Meghan's last appearance before the baby arrives and she is beginning maternity leave.
March 19, 2019: Meghan suspends her maternity leave to visit the New Zealand embassy with Harry to lay flowers in a tribute to victims of a mosque shooting. Meghan, who is photographed cradling her belly, is also photographed squatting down with knees and feet together, causing questions as some observe that it looks like her belly has completely disappeared.
April 2, 2019: Meghan, with Harry, is papped visiting an apothecary shop.
April 4, 2019: Harry and Meghan are confirmed to have moved into Frogmore Cottage.
The Birth
Note: All items italicized and in red are timings we learned after the fact. Items in "regular" font (not italicized and black) is the timing that happened live on May 6.
May 5, 2019, late in the evening: Meghan and Doria are driven to the Portland Hospital.
May 6, 2019, 5:26am GMT: Meghan gives birth after two epidurals According to Harry in Spare, it was a traumatic birth, potentially complicated, but an emergency c-section was not discussed with Meghan as Harry declined to tell her what was going on. Also, Harry gets high on laughing gas and the nurse disapprove.
May 6, 2019, 7:26am GMT: Harry, Meghan, and Baby Boy Sussex are home from the hospital (from Spare).
May 6, 2019, 1:30pm GMT: Sky News is selected as the pool broadcaster for the birth announcement when a Sussex spokesperson (probably Sara Latham) reaches out to Sky News to coordinate coverage for a statement Harry will make soon.
May 6, 2019, 1:50pm GMT: The palace announces Meghan has gone into labor and is at the hospital. Sky News has the exclusive story owing to the earlier conversation with Sussex representatives.
May 6, 2019, 2:15pm GMT: Harry records his statement about the baby's birth from a stable in Windsor. He speaks about the baby being born early in the morning. Horses make an appearance.
May 6, 2019, 2:37pm GMT: Harry and Meghan announce the birth of Baby Boy Sussex. The palace follows up with more details, including that the baby was born at 5:26am.
The palace's announcement raises questions, as the language used to describe the birth is different from the language used on all the other royal birth announcements.
The traditional birth announcement: {Title} has been safely delivered of a {son or daughter} at {time} today. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well. {signatures of medical staff} {date}
This language has been used for the Cambridges (George, Charlotte, and Louis), the Waleses (William and Harry), the Yorks (Beatrice and Eugenie), the Phillipses (Peter and Zara), the Edinburghs (Charles, Anne, Andrew, and Edward), the Brooksbanks (August and Ernie), and the Wessexes (Louise and James).
The Sussexes' birth announcement: The Queen and the Royal Family are delighted at the news that Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex was safely delivered of a son at 0526am today. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well. 06 May, 2019.
Immediately causing questions was the verb choice "was" (versus "has been"). From a grammar perspective, "was" is used to describe something that had already happened at a specific point in the past. "Has been" is a verb tense used to talk about an ongoing event - something that started in the past but is still happening. Looking at the language in the birth announcements, and examining it through the grammar only:
When George's birth was announced, Kate was still in the birthing process but it was a safe delivery. Which makes sense; birth doesn't end when the baby pops out - there's afterbirth, there's the hormone evacuation (for lack of a better word), there's the organs moving back into place, etc. She's still in the hospital receving care.
When Archie's birth was announced, Meghan had already completed giving birth. She was no longer in the hospital, already at home.
Causing even bigger questions was the missing medical staff.
Reporters immediately begin asking questions about the timing of the announcements, where the baby was born, who delivered the baby, and why everyone was told she was in labor when she had already given birth.
May 6, 2019, 2:40pm GMT: Harry's pre-recorded statement with Sky News is broadcast. When he begins speaking, the chyron says "Meghan is in labor." After he announces the baby's birth "early this morning," the chyron changes to "Meghan has given birth."
May 7, 2019, 12:28pm GMT: Palace officials apologize for the bungled birth announcement but there are no explanations or clarifications made.
May 8, 2019: Harry and Meghan announce the baby's name, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. They have a photocall with the baby in St. George's Hall, Windsor Castle, in which Harry says the infamous quote "babies change so much in two weeks." Later, they take photos with The Queen, Prince Philip, and Doria.
The photocall and the photos aren't without controversy. Royal-watchers and Windsor locals pinpoint two: May 8th is actually a very wet and overcast day in Windsor, so how did they get sunlight streaming in through the windows? And second (admittedly this one I don't understand), there's a question about either The Queen's clothes or the timing of the photo - she's supposed to be at the Royal Windsor Horse Show? Something to do with horses? - that people are confused by.
May 9, 2024: Harry goes to The Hague for Invictus Games 2020 kickoff events. (It has echoes of Charles leaving Diana just hours after Harry is born to go play polo.)
Afterwards
May 12, 2019: Mother's Day in the US. The Sussexes post a picture of Meghan holding Archie's feet in a field of forget-me-nots.
May 17, 2019: Archie's birth certificate is released. Harry doesn't have the right title.
June 6, 2019: Archie's birth certificate is updated to correct Harry's title and change Meghan's name from Rachel Meghan Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex to Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex.
June 8, 2019: Trooping the Colors. Meghan pauses her maternity leave to attend. She and Harry ride in a carriage with Kate and Camilla. Six things happen that everyone notices:
Meghan stares down Kate many times throughout the carriage procession.
When the royals are coming out onto the balcony for the flypast, Kate - carrying Louis (in his balcony debut) - walks out towards the right side of the balcony, by Andrew, while William veers to the left. William calls to Kate and she turns to join him, George, and Charlotte on the left side of the balcony. Harry and Meghan later come out on the right side, near to where the Cambridges would have been.
The Queen comes out onto the balcony and Meghan sees an opening to move in next to her, but then Andrew suddenly moves in, blocking Meghan. Anne moves in next to Andrew behind The Queen, effectively blocking the Sussexes from moving in.
When Meghan turns to speak to Harry, he sternly tells her to turn around. This happens twice. The second time, Meghan does an awkward shuffle to turn around and she starts rapidly blinking her eyes and clenching her jaw.
When The Queen is leaving the balcony after the flypast, Harry and Meghan bow/curtsy, suggesting that they were late arriving to Buckingham Palace before the parade to have properly greeted The Queen.
Meghan tries to speak to George as he passes by and he throws up a 'talk to the hand'-esque wave at her.
Allegedly, Harry and Meghan were set to have their own carriage at Trooping (as they did in 2019) but the BRF had concerns they would be booed and were thrown in with Kate and Camilla at the last minute. Allegedly, Harry didn't like this because he knew it was a demotion to go from their own carriage to riding backwards in someone else's carriage; when there's a group riding together, protocol requires the senior royals to face forward with junior royals facing backwards.
Also Meghan talks to herself.
I can't find a good video of the balcony so if anyone has one, please share!
June 17, 2019: Father's Day. The Sussexes post a new photo of Harry holding baby Archie. Harry is flipping everyone off and Archie's face is partially obscured.
June 27, 2019: SussexRoyal Instagram announces that the Sussexes will travel to South Africa in autumn. They indirectly announce that Archie will join them.
July 6, 2019: Archie's christening at Windsor Castle. Harry and Meghan decline to announce who his godparents are, citing privacy. The portraits are the first time we see Archie's face in full. They raise questions. Some people observe that the perspective/scale of William and Kate is off from the rest of the group. Others observe that Kate's chair is missing a leg. Others observe that the reflections behind the Spencer sisters and Doria are off.
Ahead of the christening service, William and Kate are papped driving into Windsor Castle. In the pap photo, both are wearing blue; Kate a blue dress or sweater and William a light blue casual shirt but in the released portraits, William is wearing a starched white shirt and Kate a pink outfit. There's some discussion that they changed at Windsor before the service but there's also something wonky going on with the metadata in the photos.
July 10, 2019: William and Harry play polo for charity. Kate, the kids, and Meghan attend. Meghan brings Archie. The lack of interaction between Kate and Meghan gets noticed quickly, as does Meghan seeming not to know what to do with Archie: she holds him for the whole outing, he seems poorly dressed (no hat or sun covering), and he doesn't move/Meghan doesn't change his position.
Allegedly, Meghan wasn't supposed to go to the polo match. Supposedly she had heard that Chelsy was there and hightailed it over with Archie to keep her man in line. (Yuck, I felt gross just writing that.)
July 14, 2019: Meghan breaks maternity leave again to attend the European premiere of The Lion King: Live-Action edition in London with Harry, who cancelled an event with the Royal Marines for this. Harry is caught on a hot mike pitching Bob Isner (Disney's CEO) about Meghan doing a voiceover.
July 26, 2019: According to The Sun, Harry and Meghan's neighbors in Windsor have been sent rules for interacting with the royals that include don't approaching the couple, speak only when spoken to, don't pet the dogs, and don't ask about the baby. Buckingham Palace denies that Harry and Meghan knew this was happening.
July 28, 2019: Meghan breaks her maternity leave again to guest-edit British Vogue's September 2019 edition, Forces for Change. There's controversy:
Allegedly Meghan was asked by the BRF if she was doing this and she kept telling them no.
Harry interviewed Jane Goodall for the edition, in which he made a comment that he and Meghan were only having two children for the environment. (The Sussexes eventually get some kind of award for this.)
Meghan interviews Michelle Obama over a lunch of fish tacos. It turns out that the interview was conducted over email.
Accusations of plagiarism, as an Australian magazine already did this something like this with a very similar front cover layout.
Also, just because: Inside Meghan Markle's disastrous attempt to edit Vogue magazine - new book 'Meghan, Harry and the war between the Windsors.'
And throughout July and August, Harry and Meghan are getting flack for racking up private air miles despite being environmentalists. They do four back-to-back private flights across Europe with Archie. On one of these trips, they meet David Sherborne, Elton John's lawyer and off to the lawsuit races we go.
The Queen invites them to Balmoral to join the family but the Sussexes decline, allegedly because Archie was too young to fly. (Mm-hmm, and then they take him on four flights to Europe.)
September 6, 2019: The Sussexes' itinerary for their Africa tour is released. As part of the tour, Harry will visit Angola and copy Diana's famous de-mining walk.
September 12, 2019: Meghan's maternity leave ends with an announcement introducing Smart Set, a capsule collection from her friends that benefit Smart Works. Meghan gives a speech that ends awkwardly when she says she needs to leave because it's "feed time."
September 23 - October 2, 2019: Harry, Meghan, and Archie travel to South Africa, Malawi, Angola, and Botswana. Meghan tries to merch Archie's clothes from H&M but it gets shut down pretty quickly. Archie's first official engagement is to meet Archbishop Desmond Tutu, which SussexRoyal cringely calls 'Arch, meet Arch.' Meghan gives her infamous "no one asked me if I'm okay" interview in which she discusses her post-partum challenges as a "young mom" and her mental health distress. Harry gets in a tiff with one of the royal reporters, snapping at her "you know what you did" when she tries to ask a clarifying question.
Princess Beatrice announces her engagement on September 26th and it steals some of the Sussexes' coverage.
And after the tour (or on the last day of the tour? I don't remember and it's late), Harry announces that he's suing the British press and it is chaos.
November 7, 2019: Harry and Meghan attend the opening of the Field of Remembrance ceremony at Westminster Abbey. Camilla was supposed to join, but backed out at the last minute citing a cold. When Meghan is pictured in overly glamorous hair and makeup for the event, speculation begins that they are recording the work for a documentary and that Camilla pulled out to avoid being in the footage.
November 9, 2019: The royal family attends the Festival of Remembrance at Royal Albert Hall. Harry and Meghan are shoved into the back row behind a pillar, barely visible on camera. (It's a demotion, because in 2018 they were seated behind Camilla.)
November 10, 2019: Remembrance Day/Sunday. The Queen, Camilla, and Kate watch from the center balcony. Meghan watches from a side balcony between Sophie and Tim. She holds her composure at being excluded from the 'main' balcony better this year than last year (in 2018, she kept stealing weepy or vengeful looks (YMMV) at the center balcony while she was sidelined with the wife of the President of Germany) but she still clenches her jaw.
This is Meghan's final entry in the Court Circular (ever).
December 20, 2019: The Sussexes announce they will spend the Christmas and New Year's holidays privately in Canada.
November 17, 2019: Harry's last entry in the Court Circular before Megxit, suggesting he and Meghan peaced out to Canada shortly after this (I'm too lazy to look up if there were any papwalks or other private engagements - another day, maybe). His final events are January 16, 2020 (a rugby thing); Philip's funeral; the service of thanksgiving for the Platinum Jubilee; and The Queen's Funeral.
And if you made it this far: congratulations! My asks are back open.

NYPOST: Meghan Markle ‘feels’ Kate Middleton ‘got away with’ mistreating her: source
By Samantha Ibrahim
August 2, 2023 9:43am Updated
Tensions between sisters-in-law Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton have been bubbling ever since the former actress married Prince Harry in 2018, according to some loose-lipped royal watchers.
An infamous incident allegedly occurred when the Duchess of Sussex, 41, claimed Middleton, also 41, made her burst into tears just days before her nuptials at St. George’s Chapel.
Five years on, their apparently glacial relationship is still making headlines, and Markle believes that the Duchess of Cambridge and her husband, Prince William, 41, still haven’t taken responsibility for their hostile actions.
“Meghan feels they’ve never been held accountable for the way they treated her when she was part of the royals, have never apologized and have seemingly got away with it,” an unnamed source dished, according to the Mirror.
The star of the suddenly record-setting TV series “Suits” is also allegedly shocked at the lack of criticism of the Prince and Princess of Wales.
Harry and Markle have hyped numerous projects — such as the Invictus Games founder’s memoir “Spare” and the duo’s Netflix documentary series — in which they spoke out against the United Kingdom’s royal family.
Another insider added that Markle was “convinced” the public would be on her side regarding the feud with the Firm.
However, “that hasn’t happened,” according to the self-proclaimed insider.
“This isn’t how she envisioned things would turn out, but Meghan knows the truth and will tell anyone who will listen that Kate had an edge [over] her.”
The Post has reached out to reps for Prince Harry and Markle for comment on the latest accusations.
Meanwhile, the big wedding debacle of ’18 started when Middleton reportedly told Markle there was an issue with her daughter Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress.
This allegedly led to a series of sobs between the two women.
It was first alleged at the time that it was the Los Angeles native who made Middleton cry, however, in a 2021 bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, Markle attempted to set the record straight.
She claimed that it was in fact Middleton who made her shed a few tears.
“The reverse happened,” the Tig creator told the media titan, 69, in the joint chat with Harry.
“A few days before the wedding, she was upset about something pertaining to — the issue was correct, about the flower girl dresses and it made me cry and it really hurt my feelings,” she said.
Markle continued: “And I don’t say that to be disparaging to anyone because it was a really hard week of the wedding and she was upset about something. But she owned it and she apologized and she brought me flowers and a note apologizing and she did what I would do if I knew that I hurt someone.”
“I’ve forgiven her,” she added of the aftermath where she buried the hatchet with Middleton.
In “Spare,” Harry also recalled the wedding incident, writing that he found Markle crying on the floor after the University of St. Andrews graduate almost demanded that all of the bridesmaid dresses be remade just a few days before the marriage ceremony.
I am going to answer this point by point so it is long:
Tensions between sisters-in-law Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton have been bubbling ever since the former actress married Prince Harry in 2018, according to some loose-lipped royal watchers.
-No, The Princess of Wales has risen above and done her duty impeccably even when she wanted to deck the b****.
An infamous incident allegedly occurred when the Duchess of Sussex, 41, claimed Middleton, also 41, made her burst into tears just days before her nuptials at St. George’s Chapel.
-Again with Meghan being UNABLE to let things go. She is going to be talking about this on her death bed. She truly felt that because she cried later, on the floor sobbing where only Harry found her, she was the mistreated one.
Five years on, their apparently glacial relationship is still making headlines, and Markle believes that the Duchess of Cambridge and her husband, Prince William, 41, still haven’t taken responsibility for their hostile actions.
-The only reason this “feud” is still making headline is because it is the only way for Meghan to get any attention whatsoever and have her name mentioned in the same sentence as “Princess of Wales.” Also, William and Catherine do not have to take any responsibility for their actions when said actions were more than warranted at the time. Meghan was/is a bully and they stood up to her which is why she is angry. She felt she was educating them on how to live their lives and they told her to bugger off which is incomprehensible to her.
“Meghan feels they’ve never been held accountable for the way they treated her when she was part of the royals, have never apologized and have seemingly got away with it,” an unnamed source dished, according to the Mirror.
-What do they need to apologize for? I believe it was Meghan who bullied Catherine for having “baby brain” and when pointed out to her that was uncalled for and mean, MEGHAN is the one that took offence at having been reprimanded for something SHE DID. She felt it was rude of them to call her out but by God, William and Catherine had better hand over the kings to the kingdom for all of their wrongdoings to Meghan.
The star of the suddenly record-setting TV series “Suits” is also allegedly shocked at the lack of criticism of the Prince and Princess of Wales.
-Oh please…it’s streaming on Netflix and there is literally nothing else to watch right now. Plus I doubt her residuals are anything substantial.
Harry and Markle have hyped numerous projects — such as the Invictus Games founder’s memoir “Spare” and the duo’s Netflix documentary series — in which they spoke out against the United Kingdom’s royal family.
-The one where they didn’t get the Emmy nod…hehehehehe…
Another insider added that Markle was “convinced” the public would be on her side regarding the feud with the Firm.
However, “that hasn’t happened,” according to the self-proclaimed insider.
“This isn’t how she envisioned things would turn out, but Meghan knows the truth and will tell anyone who will listen that Kate had an edge [over] her.”
-No. Meghan was convinced that the BRF would be on her side to begin with, most importantly she wanted William on her side because she wanted him to love/admire her and hate Catherine. When that didn’t happen she turned it as a “me against them” story and in the end she came out the villain instead of the victim. Catherine was ALWAYS going to have an edge over her. Catherine is married to the heir to the throne and will one day be Queen. Just because Meghan thought herself to be better than Catherine didn’t mean others would.
The Post has reached out to reps for Prince Harry and Markle for comment on the latest accusations.
-The will deny or not respond because all of this came from them anyways.
-Again she is like a Pit Bull with this story. She will NEVER let it go that people saw her for who she truly is and then didn’t buy her side of the story. She hasn’t and will never forgive Catherine because Catherine was rightfully upset and Meghan was the evil SIL.
In “Spare,” Harry also recalled the wedding incident, writing that he found Markle crying on the floor after the University of St. Andrews graduate almost demanded that all of the bridesmaid dresses be remade just a few days before the marriage ceremony.
-So Givenchy anon claims this is because the dresses were poorly made and Meghan kept changing her mind. This all had nothing to do with Catherine and everything to do with Meghan acting crazy.

I cant believe Im not getting paid for this. by u/Mickleborough
Meghan’s alleged to have said this on their Australia / Fiji / New Zealand / Tonga tour in 2018 when she was expected to do walkabouts, shake hands, and show a civil face. (She couldn’t do even that in Fiji: Sun archived / unarchived.)
To give an idea of what a proper working royal does, the Telegraph spent a week with Princess Anne.
Twice a year, her office invites the 300-plus organisations with which she’s affiliated to submit requests for her time. She gets 1,200 - 2,000 requests a year; sorts them out; and creates a schedule, to which she adheres.
In this typical week, the Princess Royal:
travelled about 818 miles / 1,316
shook over 677 hands
spent many hours in conversation
Her activities ranged from visiting a local National Coastwatch Institution to an equitation centre to celebrate 25 years of the Pony Club Centre Membership Scheme; attending a party to support unpaid carers (spending ‘a few extra moments talking to the building’s cleaner, loudly declaring her “very important”’) to carrying out an investiture; going to a City fundraiser lunch for military veterans to hosting a black tie dinner to celebrate The Duke of Edinburgh’s Commonwealth Study Conferences.
At all of these many and varied visits, she showed a depth of knowledge of their work.
Telegraph archived / unarchived
Admittedly the Princess Royal’s one of the hardest working members of the Royal Family - and this is a normal working week for her.
Meghan didn’t stay long enough to have a typical working week with all 4 of her patronages. She did a few royal tours, which involved far less in-depth work. Sample itinerary from her Australia tour:
16 October 2018:
Meet the Governor-General, his wife, and Invictus Games representatives.
Trip to the zoo (seriously).
Sydney Opera House to watch a performance by the Bangarra Dance Company
17 October:
Flight to Dubbo where the Sussexes met local farmers and hosted a picnic.
18 October:
Flight to Melbourne to meet politicians and the public at Government House.
Visit an organisation offering training to indigenous youth.
etc etc etc. Basically shaking hands and ‘doing the pretty’ (to quote a Georgette Heyer novel). And yet she couldn’t hack it:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Express archived / unarchived
This explains why she can’t put together a simple podcast (still can’t) - mainly because she’s a ‘f**king grifter’. Why American Rubbish Upchuck won’t get off the ground. No work ethic.
When life follows art: the worldwide privacy tour. How will she treat the crowds in Nigeria? Will she demand to be paid? Or will she tell them that they’re stupid?

Snare plan
From Quora
12 April 2023
How do you to move on and up from a Toronto chef to a Kensington Palace prince?
Sobbing from left eye, prostrate on the floor “ I’ ll leave you if you don’t immediately tell the world I’m your girlfriend.” So despite his fear and loathing of the media, he chose the path of publicity. Over abandonment by a man- eater.
World wide opinion is growing that Meghan organised her OWN online harassment club to pressure Harry to cave into her engagement plans.
Here’s how the plan goes… April 25 2015 Meghan meets Harry at the opening of Soho House Istanbul. Meghan admits she “did her homework and scoured Harry’s Instagram feed. “
Meghan 35 says in Vanity Fair she met 32 year old Harry in 2016 and was secretly dating for about 6 months, (about April 2016 ) after chatting on Instagram.
October 28th 2016 news breaks about the “ secret” relationship.
The next day, the pair publicly celebrates on October 29th 2016 when she and Harry attend Soho House Toronto Halloween Apocalypse themed party with Eugenie and Jack.
Someone “leaks” info and photos to the press.
Such a narrow window through which to manoeuvre and organise Harry , but just one week later, he issues a public statement Nov 8th 2016 about Meghan, his new American “actress” girlfriend and media intrusion. Using his Kensington Palace Press Release he complains about nightly legal battles to keep stories out of papers.
A quote “ It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him that” etc. and so on. A FEW Months???
( The UK Sun Wednesday 2 November has a front page busty photo of Meghan in her red low cleavage Deal Or No Deal dress, titled Princess Pushy. Nothing racist, just sexy photos.)
So, from October 28 to November 7, barely a week, how is such a media storm raised without prior assistance? ( Reminiscent of Megs lowering the limo windows at HMTQs Jubilee to wave ‘look at me ‘ to the media.)
December 2016 they publicly shop together for a Christmas tree at London’ s Pines and Needles store, and a few days later attend a play in London’s West End.
Meghan goes to Toronto Invictus Games with Markus Anderson and then attends wheelchair tennis with Harry 25 September 2017 happily waving to the media.
Magically , the engagement is announced on 27 Nov 2017 along with an announcement that 6 months later there would be a Windsor wedding on 19 May 2018 .
So her first consideration was how long does it take to land a big fish after he took the first risky bite, and how to fast -track the process.
Totally proficient with manipulating her own on -line Tig fan club, she sets up her own remote shark tank of anti-Megs orientated trolls. They help back in her plan of getting young Haz rage up every time he reads a critical comment about his “movie star “girlfriend. What a crisis for struggling Harry.
It has been revealed Achewell Foundation contributes to these on -line social media groups today, with the hope of influencing more accolades, tributes and awards for the pair.
Meanwhile 2023 , the world has grown bored with, and tired of watching when the reptiles will engorge on the other and who will be left
Love it!  Thank you 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

The mail online, whilst the online version of the daily Mail, is the biggest online newspaper in the world - in terms of daily views. It’s number one and has been since 2014/2015.
Quick google search says over 50% of its daily views come from outside the UK - noting the large audiences (and different home pages) they have in India, Australia and The USA.
So I wouldn’t say they’re targeting the British tabloids through the Mail - who themselves have become a little too reliant on social media to find stories, especially about the royals. For example, everything Kate has done in the last week, especially anything that has wound up as a gif/TikTok video has also been an article on the Mail online.
I would however say that they have a habit of “targeting” British papers depending on what they’re trying to accomplish.
For example The Sun newspaper, who up until 2018, were the most purchased daily newspaper and still sell around 1 million copies daily in the UK. Since leaving, H&M have either leaked or granted exclusive access to the sun on the following stories;
Megixt - they blame the family for the leak. Dan Wotton who broke the story claims it came from the Sussexes.
Invictus - pretty sure they allowed the sun to have photo access at the last games in the Netherlands.
Lilibets 1st birthday photos.
The Sun’s royal reporter Matt Wilkinson was getting all the Sussex info for a while; then they switched to Jack Royston at Newsweek (which tbh here in the Uk, I’m not sure how many Brits actually read Newsweek?). Jack flipped around the Netflix docuseries/book.
Since QE2’s death/funeral they’ve been buddying up with the telegraph - but more reputable here in the UK - started with the whole “Harry not allowed to wear uniform/sad that his epaulets were left off during the grandchildren vigil” and continues to this day.
So there is targeting the British press, but like everything with these two, which journalist/reporter/paper will change with whatever they’re trying to project/accomplish.
Good points. However, I don’t think they are really “targeting” the UK papers. I think the UK papers are the only ones that are willing to print their leaks for free right now. If they want US coverage, they have to pay for it and they don’t have the money right now.
That’s why their pap pics are now on TMZ. What with their lawsuits and loss of status even the Mail isn’t paying for her pics.

It's always about money with Meghan (and Harry) 👇
"“Her approach was: I know everything but I want you to control me so I can rebel against it”, said someone familiar with her modus operandi. She didn’t seem to fully understand how the monarchy worked, however. At one point during the Sussexes’ tour of Australia in 2018, according to Low, she allegedly declared: “I can’t believe I’m not getting paid for this.” On another occasion she asked those involved with the Royal Foundation why they weren’t doing more to “monetise” the Invictus Games, Harry’s charitable initiative for wounded ex-service personnel."

The Australian Tour Was Not A Success
This is one of Harry and the wife's constantly repeated lies.
The Australian Tour was a DISASTER.
Below are all the rumours from various sources that I have heard about their behaviour in Australia. I am sure there are more that I have not heard. Everything is "allegedly" until proven true or false, of course.
The tour was meant to be Harry attending the Invictus Games, like when royal family members come and attend the Commonwealth Games. He was meant to spend the majority of his time at the Invictus Games, not traipsing all over the country.
Meghan was a last minute inclusion, and the tour changed dramatically because of her.
The couple announced their "pregnancy" on International Pregnancy and Baby Loss Remembrance Day, after a week commemorating Pregnanacy and baby loss. That's right, at the culmination of this sensitive time, Meghan told all the grieving families "Sucks to be you, I'm pregnant!!!".
The Governor General of Australia and his wife and family live in Admiralty House. It is their home, like the President of the USA lives in the White House. Harry and Meghan were accommodated in the guest wing, as is usual for visiting guests. Meghan demanded the whole house for her and Harry, and when refused, told the wife of the Governor General "Don't you know who I am"?
When the couple visited Dubbo, Meghan had the Admiralty House staff stay up all night cooking banana bread for her to take according to her own recipe, rejecting batch after batch and demanding that they redo it. She then presented the bread as something that she had made herself. The final result was less than impressive (and probably tasted disgusting, in my opinion, going by what was said of the ingredients at the time).
Instead of spending all their time at the Invictus Games, Harry and his wife attended the first and last days. Meghan spent the whole time there at the first day complaining that she was bored.
Harry demanded that Meghan make a speech at the closing ceremony. That was not planned as part of the event. The couple's diva behaviour disgusted a lot of people.
For the rest of the tour, Meghan and Harry visited tourist spots, with an inbuilt crowd of tourists. Despite this, photos of the 'crowd' at those events usually had to be taken at close range, as long range would show the 'crowd' as a few people crammed into a small space and then lots of empty or sparsely filled spaces.
Meghan spent the entire tour sticking out her stomach to simulate a pregnancy bulge whenever she could. This is what first raised suspicions about the pregnancy.
Meghan spent a fair bit of the tour less than appropriately dressed for the occasion. She looked crumpled and untidy at all times, imo.
Meghan threw a cup of hot tea at an assistant during her time here. The palace paid the assistant a sum of money.
Harry went around Admiralty House repeatedly apologising for the behaviour of his wife (he was not yet lost to shame as he is now).
Harry and Meghan's behaviour was so bad that the palace sent Prince Andrew to Australia the month afterwards (Nov 2018) to apologise for their behaviour, on what was billed at a trip for Pitch @The Palace but was informally known as the "Apology Tour". Princess Beatrice accompanied him.
So much for a "successful" tour, right?
The press write up was sugared to the max and is not to be taken as an indication of anything other than them fawning over Harry and Meghan.
Feel free to add on any rumours that you have heard. I have not even attempted to cover their disgraceful behaviour in Tonga, Fiji and New Zealand.

I missed this story.
Notes:
She "secretly" traveled to the US before the wedding. For security purposes, stayed free of charge in the Beckham's Beverly Hills mansion instead of with her own mother or her own "friends." Did she even bother to see her father?
Millie described the same lovebombing techniques as VBeck: mm requested Millie's London based beauty secrets, etc.
Cotswalds rental home was a "renovated barn."
Meghan accused someone of leaking her details to the press??😂 No one except Sparry believes the Beckham's leaked mm's beauty appointment info to the press. If anything SHE leaked the info as an excuse to sever ties with the couple.
pattern: lovebomb as the helpless/needy damsel in distress, create a crisis to engineer separation, fall to the floor in tears devastated by accusations of betrayal, sparry phones to fix it, revenge/retaliation (uninvited to wedding party, ignored at the Invictus Games)
Bower gets the fashion details wrong:
The Victoria Beckham white coat and "chains" dress was worn for the 2019 Commonwealth Service, not for her final Abbey appearance in 2020.
The VB navy coat was worn 2x: Christmas 2018 & NYC Polo Bar in 2019
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've noticed that Catherine enjoys her Victoria Beckham white handbag. She carried it post-partum to a Polo Match with the kids and at multiple Wimbledon matches.

Do you all have any proof that Invictus wants nothing to do with Harry or is it just a hunch based on narratives you’ve made up yourselves? Or maybe it is just wishful thinking on your part?
First off, reading and context is fundamental. No one has said Invictus wants nothing to do with Harry. We’re saying that it doesn’t make sense why Invictus keeps Harry around when he doesn’t appear to provide them any value. From a liability and risk management perspective, they have to be doing something to protect themselves from his lack of engagement.
And it is actually data-driven speculation. I don’t make stuff up here; I am always researching, I am always reading, I am always learning, and that is what informs my theories. There is very little I take at face-value.
But since your insult was polite, I’ll let you look at my homework instead of telling you to go figure it out yourself. Just this one time.
So this is the financial report from the UK charity registry:
Tumblr media
Expenses (money going out) and income (money coming in, i.e. the donations) are virtually the same. In other words: as of 2022, Invictus is barely breaking even. This is not good; it means, more or less, they're one crisis away from some serious problems.
It also means that their actual Games - which, in 2022 would have been The Hague/Dutch IG - are expensed entirely by the host city. So basically, the charity itself is nothing more than a glorified events planner spending someone else's money. That's...not exactly the mission we're told that Invictus Games is.
Now, that orange line there on the bottom is what the UK calls "governance." (In the US, we call it "administrative.") This is what it means, from IG's 2022 financial report:
Tumblr media
Note that this doesn't include salaries for the 12 (as of 12/31/2022) employees at IG. According to Giving is Great, a UK charity watchdog, senior staff costs (i.e. salaries and benefits) is 26%, or approximately £500,000. Add the governance/admin costs, and we're looking at £750,000 a year just to keep the charity's lights on. When your total budget is £2 million, that's a big chunk of change. 40%, in fact.
Second let's look at their income. The UK charity registry breaks the "gross income" down into several subcategories. For Invictus Games:
Tumblr media
(The column headers were cut off but from left to right it's 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022.)
Meaning that in 2022, their income came from donations, trading, and charitable activities.
(Remember that in 2020, the Royal Foundation made a £1 million donation to Invictus Games, which I believe makes up the majority of that £1.4m donation. If that assumption is correct, then that means in 2020, Harry was only able to fundraise an additional £400,000 in donations. Now, 2020 was a very difficult year for a lot of charities and nonprofits so that steep dropoff isn't unusual to see in the financial reports.)
Now from the 2022 financial report, here's what these categories mean:
Tumblr media
So just really quick. Unrestricted means that the recipient chooses where/how to spend the money. Restricted means that the donor directs where/how the charity spends the money. So Invictus could spend £381K of the donations (Category #2) anywhere they wanted to, but for the remaining £700K of donations they received, they had to follow specific directions on how to use it.
What this is saying is that of the total income earned by Invictus Games in 2022, only £1.08 million came from donations.
Now, in my (volunteer) experience working in nonprofit fundraising most lay people (i.e. members of the general public who donate to charities) don't usually direct or designate their donation. So most of the regular donations are going into the unrestricted pot. Corporate donors, sponsors, or partners are more likely to give restricted gifts, where they direct how the money will be spent. So based on my experience, I feel comfortable assuming, or suggesting, that £231,447 received in unrestricted donations is people like, you, me, and Sussex Squad donating to Invictus out of pocket.
That's a pretty poor showing. And in my opinion, it's a direct reflection of Harry's leadership; he isn't inspiring people to donate to Invictus. Instead, the bulk of Invictus's income/donations is coming from corporate sponsorships.
Most charities cannot survive on corporate sponsorships and partnerships. It does not guarantee long-term survival. Long-term survival is predicated on investments, endowments, and contracts...which Invictus doesn't have, which means their patron isn't doing his share.
Third let's look at the actual Games themselves. The Hague/Dutch IG was given a budget of €15 million (~$16 million). According to this leaked letter from the Dusseldorf IG Committee, the Hague IG Games actually ended up costing €25 million (~$27 million). That's a 60% increase, and it's impossible for all of that to be due to COVID-related inflation.
Going backed to the leaked Dusseldorf IG letter, their budget was about €27 million (~$29 million). It's being reported that the Dusseldorf IG actually ended up costing closer to €37 million (~$40 million). This is a 37% increase; they were also very over budget.
And in March 2023, Invictus Games 2025 signed and published, to their website, a Contribution Agreement outlining that Canada's budget for the Vancouver IG is $30 million CAD (~$22 million USD); $15 million CAD (~$11 million USD) from the province of British Columbia and $15 million CAD from the government of Canada.
Tumblr media
So if I split the baby for budget overrun [(60% + 37%)/2=48.5%], we're looking at Vancouver IG to probably end up costing around $44.5 million CAD.
In other words...they're in trouble. Meaning that Invictus and its board should be working together with the local corporation(s) to cut costs and increase savings/get new sponsors and partners. Meaning that the patron should be out there campaigning and fundraising for money or figuring out how and where to cut costs...but he isn't.
Or those efforts aren't visible. Not when the competing PR is about Harry's attacks on the BRF, Spare, Meghan's merching, and stories like this one of key leaders being abruptly fired and whistleblowers leaking to the press.
Now why would someone be abruptly fired without notice? It's not for shock and awe. It's either for incredible malfeasance (like fraud and embezzlement) or because someone much higher up wanted it. Since there's no paper trail or proof of wrongdoing - which Vancouver IG would have leaked in some way, shape or form - all the evidence strongly suggests the two men were fired because someone else demanded it. Maybe, say, someone who costs so much more than he's actually worth, who causes more problems than solves, who has alienated a lot of public goodwill. Of course, that's just pure speculation. But it is strange. One person getting fired without notice, sure, not really worth paying attention. But two people? And two people who purportedly know a whole lot about what's happening behind closed doors? That's hinky.
Have I forgotten anything?
Oh, right. This: growing criticism and dissatisfaction from local host-nation communities, Invictus's competitors and their families, and social media over the Sussexes' inability (and disinterest) to promote anyone but themselves whilst attending events.
The last thing any brand wants (or needs) is an ambassador that alienates their core customer base and prospective supporters and dominates the news with controversy. Brands, including nonprofit organizations, rely pretty heavily on:
The goodwill and positive attention their ambassadors generate
The users, fans, supporters, customers, and consumers that follow their ambassadors and
The networks their ambassadors move in.
Harry doesn't do any of that either:
He loses public goodwill every time he opens his mouth and invites only criticism.
The customers (the veterans and their families) aren't happy that their efforts are overshadowed. The consumers (people at home following along) are unhappy and dissatisfied that they can't find information about the competitors or the Games themselves because the only press coverage is about Harry and Meghan.
Harry is completely excluded from the royal, military, international, and aristo networks that propped him up 10 years ago to launch this thing. Invictus can't tap into that anymore, so why should they keep him around?
Let's review.
Invictus's expenses and income barely break even. Further, their reserves allow them to operate for less than one whole year. That's a really uncomfortable place to be in. Where is their patron to help seek out income streams that would build up their reserves?
Based on donation data, they're wheezing along on spit and prayer. They rely almost exclusively on corporate sponsors/partners. There's no investments, no endowments, no contracts. Actual "from the people" donations is just paltry. Where is their patron to lead fundraising campaigns, recruit new sponsors, develop investment opportunities?
The costs to host the Games keeps ballooning. Some cost overrun is normal, expected, and even budgeted for, but not the amounts that Invictus keeps turning out. Where is their patron to help look for new partners or charm everyone over with budget cuts?
There was a personnel shakeup in the Vancouver 2025 leadership that caused a lot of questions and concerns about their readiness to host their events and revealed a lot of morale issues. Where was their patron to calm the chaos?
There's growing criticism over the patron's behavior that is reflecting badly on Invictus Games and their brand. Where is the patron changing his behavior, changing his attitude, changing his priority?
I'll tell you where the patron is. He and his wife are flying around the world to party at Soho Houses, whine about being cut off from his family after he spent 3 years attacking them, spending other people's money in ridiculous ways, and getting wastedly high after his wife and kids go to bed.
The longer Invictus Games is associated with that, the more it reflects on them and their brand. They can't afford that. Not when they're promoting themselves as "family friendly" or "family supporting" (which is how they've justified Meghan's involvement).
It doesn't make any sense for them to keep Harry on. He's not fundraising for them. He's not schmoozing. He costs more money than he brings in. The people they serve don't like him. He isn't bringing big donors in. He isn't speaking to or supporting his family.
And allllllllll this together is why I say "I wouldn't be surprised if Invictus is trying to phase Harry out." It's why I say "depending on how well Germany Invictys 2024 goes, that may be the proof they can survive without him."
It's data-driven speculation. Not something I've made up. The only thing that's made up is the speculation about why two senior leaders were so abruptly fired. But that isn't even part of the analysis or the calculation.
Next time, anon, you're doing your own fucking research.

I am watching with interest the sudden avalanche of divorce PR articles.
I remember a reading Talking-Tarot did back in the day where she said the divorce announcement would come after a press tsunami not dissimilar to the one that happened in Fall 2018. I think we're getting close to that...
For those who weren't here then, the Press Tsunami of 2018 was a tidal wave of criticism that hadn't been seen since War of the Wales. Within the span of a few weeks - if not months - we had stories on:
Pregnancy announcement at Eugenie's wedding, how upset the Yorks were that it happened, and the breach of etiquette/manners that they announced it to family at the wedding
The actual pregnancy announcement happening on a day that was for commemorating infant loss.
Merching IVF when the pregnancy announcement broke (the two purple folders at the airport as a symbol of boy-girl twins)
Virtue-signalling a bloated gas baby throughout all of Oz
Bridesmaid dress fitting ending in tears
First allegations of Charlotte being mistreated by Meghan
William kicking the Sussexes out of the Royal Foundation
(don't remember if that was also when William kicked them out of KP too or if that came later)
First allegations of bullying behavior - huge volatile and hostile fights at Admiral House that everyone could hear, Harry apologizing to everyone afterwards on Meghan's behalf, the scissors and hot tea throwing, the banana bread fiasco, the tantrum over not having Admiral House to herself
Treating the tour like a holiday resort with optional events
Fashion scandals - the tag left on the dress, the see-through dress, the disappearing baby bump, the bloody earrings
A tantrum over being unable to wear a tiara at one of the events
Behavior at Invictus Games
The Fiji Women's Market and peacing out after 5 minutes for "security"
The Mulroney merching scandal - allegedly Jess was negotiating a luxury car deal in Australia and when Ben caught wind of it, he noped them back to Canada ASAP.
Harry reinventing himself as the family photographer on the trip
I think they launched the Sussex Royal brand on this trip too.
Good call, I totally forgot about TT's prediction about the second press tsunami.
PS: William kicked them out of the RF, they chose to leave KP in a huff because The Queen wouldn't give them an apartment bigger than 1A at KP/

I can't believe how things escalated so fast with Meghan. I literally remember swooning over them during their first appearance together at the invictus games in Canada. Everyone really loved her here (I live in Kenya) but just a few years later she is probably one of the most hated/trolled women in the world. It's also disappointing that I know so many people who believe the false narrative about her being a narcissist, copying Diana, manipulating Harry etc. Even people who are supposedly intelligent and should be able to use logic decide to hate without looking up the facts. Sorry for the long post. I just feel bad her.
There has been a massive campaign to turn that love to hate. From what I can tell, it’s been William’s raison d’etre since the “fab four” shared the stage at the Royal Foundation event in early 2018, like the only thing he’s not lazy about. Charles, Camilla, William, and Kate have all unleashed the conservative tabloid media on Meghan when it’s been convenient for them. And Meghan’s name sells papers and generates ad revenues. Someone’s been buying tons and tons of bots to spread hate against her on social media. If there’s any precedent, it’s what happened to Diana, but truly Diana wasn’t on the receiving end of the racism and classism, too. You’re right: it’s staggering to consider.

Didn’t Jill Biden attend one invictus games? Or a related event? It makes sense that they would keep sending her invites lol
But what I think they fail to understand is that invictus is so niched and will never be on the scale it was the first few years. It does what it needs for the veterans and sometimes you just have to be fine with that (unless you’re delulu of course). It’s the same with Earthshot, I don’t think we’ll see the same amount of publicity around that as the first ceremony until the last, and that’s fine! It does what it needs to do anyway.
yeah back in 2014 and then again in 2018 but nothing since megxit or since she became first lady
