the criticism of FCG’s character that they force therapy on people is so funny to me because it’s such a wild overstatement of harm. FCG isn’t forcing therapy on people. He’s asking inappropriate or invasive questions and offering unsolicited advice. He is, at worst, being rude.

The character is not a medical professional. He’s not interacting with patients. They’re just a guy asking strangers how they feel. No one he interacts with is obligated to listen to him, none of them have to trust him, there is nothing forced. If an NPC doesn’t like what they’re saying, they can just tell him to shut up, or walk away, or ignore them, and there would be no consequences whatsoever for that.

It’s just so bonkers that people in this fandom are out here acting like therapy lingo is mind magic that can alter people’s brains without their consent, and FCG’s out here doing something deeply unethical in asking a stranger an awkward question about their feelings.

#on the subject of pcs #none of them are inclined to tell fcg to fuck off #some of them even seek out his advice entirely unprompted #one really interesting thing about how the character is presented is that sam outright knows fcg isn't a good therapist #but does laura or marisha or matt know that?#the narrative as it were has only ever rewarded fcg for butting into things #gus playing along with fcg's advice on his relationship and thanking him for it afterwards being the clearest example #i think people like projecting their negative feelings about fcg's whole deal onto the characters and world #but i don't think the narrative supports that #i think if matt knows fcg's not a good therapist he's not interested in punishing him for it #which tbh #good #imo it'd be pretty fucked up for people to focus on how fcg #the robot who lives in a world where he is by default regarded as an object #behaves badly towards people who do not see him as their equal on any level #interpersonal conflicts with pcs and npcs who actually respect him are one thing #but i think fcg is simply allowed to use the terrible mind altering magics of saying you should talk about your feelings #on anyone who doesn't respect their personhood #this character who thinks they exist to serve people is actually bad at their function which makes them a bad person unworthy of respect #is a shit tier take!! it's rancid vibes!!
