For fun I’ve been sporadically draping Marinette’s dreamscape gala dress from @buggachat’s BEAU, and today when I set it up on my half dress form a little beetle flew onto it. For a solid three minutes I got very excited because I thought it was a ladybug.
Tumblr media
It is not, in fact a ladybug.
Tumblr media
This is Gertrude. She is an ‘Asian Beetle’. The internet tells me that they’re a bit more hostile and smelly than your average ladybug. So far she has been quite polite.
She has more spots than a ladybug does (and thus she does not match the dress).
Anyway, Gertrude has been safely relocated and is hanging out with me while I type. We’re buds now. I have no idea how she got into my house. It’s been years since I’ve run into a ladybug or an Asian beetle inside. She was a nice little surprise.

How To Plan A Summer Wedding
Tumblr media
The Skinny on Summer Weather
Slap on that sunblock, because in nearly all parts of the country you can usually count on temps in the 70s (or higher!)—especially in the dog days of summer, like late July and August.
While sweet summertime means blue skies and balmy breezes most of the time, there are still some weather concerns to be aware of. For example, many east coast areas can experience torrential rain in the form of thunderstorms—soooo not ideal for an outdoor wedding! Then there's the south and southwest, where the thermometer can get up to 100 degrees fahrenheit or higher. An outdoor ceremony in this heat gives new meaning to the phrase, sweating for the wedding.
And, while less likely, there's the potential for natural disasters that can occur in the summer months. On the west coast, drought conditions frequently cause large-scale wildfires that bring hazy skies, poor air quality, and even evacuations. The opposite side of the country comes with the nasty Atlantic hurricane season, which begins June 1 and peaks in late August.
So…to play it safe, know what weather is forecasted for your wedding day, make sure to give your out-of-town guests whatever wardrobe tips they need to be prepared, and always—we repeat, ALWAYS—have a bad-weather backup plan. Just. in. case.
Tumblr media
Summer Holidays
Besides fabulous weather, summer seems to be the least limiting in terms of holidays and other potential hiccups. While you won't have to compete with many major holidays, the months of June through July are some of the most popular times to get married AND go on vacation. You'll want to keep your guests' wallets in mind by giving them plenty of time to book flights and plan travel. Trust us, they'll thank you.
Here are a few dates to keep in mind:
Memorial Day – Always a Monday in May (Technically this is a spring holiday, but widely considered the unofficial start of summer)
Father's Day – Always a Sunday in June
Independence Day – Always July 4th, but days off can vary
Labor Day – Always a Monday in September
Hint: Save-the-dates for destination weddings typically get sent out 8–12 months in advance, while save-the-dates for local weddings can be sent out closer to 4 months in advance.
Tumblr media
Summer Wedding Pros & Cons
There are so many advantages to getting married in the summer:
Typically gorgeous weather. Break out those sunnies!
There are fewer holidays to work around. Plus, it's widely considered PC to have an Independence Day or Labor Day weekend wedding.
The "Yes" RSVPs are more likely to roll in. Guests are often more willing and excited to take time off work and travel to a summer wedding!
Your outdoor venue and location choices are wide-open. Think barns, mountaintops and, of course, toes-in-the-sand beach weddings. The choices are endless!
However, there are a fair number of disadvantages to be aware of:
Summer is the most popular season to tie the knot. Venues and vendors often up their prices during this time, especially on weekends. Keep an eye out for peak-season rates when planning your wedding budget.
Destination wedding and honeymoon prices are also hitting their peak as most Americans book their vacation during the summer months.
Your favorite venues and vendors could be booked up months to years in advance for popular summer wedding dates.
Tumblr media
Summer Color Palette
Unlike other times of the year and their seasonal hues, the sunshine-filled days of summer complement nearly any wedding color palette. While you'll typically see bright colors at summer weddings, there's no need to shy away from deep blues, rich grays, or even black. Don't be afraid to think outside the box when it comes to putting together your own colors!
Tumblr media
Bridesmaids and Groomsmen
When it comes to dressing your bridal party, comfort needs to be at the top of the list. If you're tying the knot in the Deep South in late July, chances are your 'maids and groomsmen won't appreciate being buried under layers of fabric and accessories. Consider shorter dresses or lighter fabrics, like organza or charmeuse.
For groomsmen, you'll want to be extra certain you won't be causing sweat overload before the ceremony has even started! Stick with lighter suit jackets and vests—or ditch the jackets altogether. Look into a variety of different hot-weather-friendly looks like khaki, rolled sleeves, suspenders, or even shorts and flip-flops!
Tumblr media
Working With What's In Season
When you buy what's in season, you get food and flowers at the peak of their supply when costs are normally lower. Plus, when they're locally grown they don't need to be shipped halfway around the globe. So not only do you save money, but you also reduce your carbon footprint. Win-win.
—Summer Wedding Food—
Much like spring, summer is peak harvesting season for fruits and vegetables. Summer's sunshine means there's no excuse to serve food that doesn't include a little color! As for veggies, the sky's the limit as to what's in season: green beans, cucumbers, eggplant, peas, and corn—just to name a few.
While fruit harvests are bountiful during this time of year, the weather can affect when they're ripest. Be on the lookout for melons, peaches, plums, raspberries, and blackberries because all of these are at their juiciest in the summer months. Fortunately, the abundance of produce in the summer can lead to lower prices, which is especially great if you're planning a farm-to-table wedding!
Tumblr media
—Summer Wedding Flowers—
No matter where you are in the country, it seems that beautiful blooms are popping up all over the place. There are literally hundreds of options, but here are a few of our favorite summertime flowers:
Sunflowers. This classic is the poster child of summer, but we love how they add a pop of bright yellow to any bouquet.
Hydrangeas. These fluffy blossoms are summer staples that come in a wide variety of pretty colors.
Calla Lilies make a statement when bundled in a bouquet, and add a classy accent to any summer arrangement.
Amaranthus. From deep reds to fresh greens, this rope-like accent flower is perfect for boho or beach weddings, or even a more elegant affair!
Cacti. Use succulents like aloe and you can't go wrong.
Eucalyptus is a floral trend we're seeing year-round, and we're not complaining!
Pro Tip: Since some flowers are more prone to wilting in the summer heat than others, be sure to double-check with your florist before committing to any one flower or greenery.
Tumblr media
Summer Catering Trends
With a cornucopia of fresh fruits and veggies to choose from, you may have already started your search for the perfect hand-lettered sign to direct your guests to the salad bar. Not so fast! There are oh-so-many ways to pay homage to the tastes of the season, not all of which involve plants. If your personal faves include poultry, beef, and seafood, they can easily be incorporated into lighter versions of classics. Or, consider fun, non-traditional alternatives like tapas (Spanish small plates), a festive taco bar, or even good old-fashioned barbecue!
Your reception wouldn't be complete without a summer-inspired dessert! How about wine-flavored sorbet, yummy ice cream, or other frozen treats like snow cones, granita, or gelato to cool your guests down on those warm summer days! Or, what about a classic summer staple like cobbler or pie? There are so many options to choose from, so go wild!
Tumblr media
Summer Wedding Cake Trends
Play with light and refreshing flavors like lemon, raspberry, and coconut instead of rich, fudgy chocolate—unless that's your thing, of course! If you're not into the "naked" cake trend, ice your cake with summery frostings that showcase coconut, cherry, or Tahitian vanilla. Dress it up with sprigs of lavender or rosemary, some gold leaf, or a pretty ombré pattern. The latest trend we're partial to? Colorful brush strokes paired with bright blooms. You could even ask if your baker is willing to collab with your florist to match your cake to your bouquet! Your wedding cake—assuming you even have one—should be as unique as you are!
Tumblr media
Summer-Inspired Wedding Favors
Your guests will no doubt appreciate customized hand fans to keep cool or neon-colored sunnies to block summer's harsh rays. Or, hit up Old Navy's $1 Flip-Flop Sale to stock up on cheap sandals for tired feet to change into. You can also pick up miniature bottles of rosé, tiny potted succulents, homemade jam, and even travel-sized bottles of sunscreen with a custom sticker slapped on. And if you're really on a budget, how about some fresh seasonal fruit for your guests to enjoy?
Tumblr media
Summer Signature Cocktails
If you're serving cocktails on your big day, there's no better time to get creative than during the summer! Sparkling wines, champagne spritzers, and fruity cocktails are just the tip of the iceberg. Hit up your bartender (or just the drink-maker at your fave hangout spot!) for custom cocktails inspired by you and your fiancé. Refreshing berry mojitos, vodka-infused Arnold Palmers, boozy sangria, and mango bellinis—oh, yes! Just be sure to have water available for your guests at all times to keep them hydrated. Drink up!

Dyeing Techniques Overview
Continuing with the previous article’s format of “defining” certain terms, I wanted to give a bit of info on various dyeing techniques and the finished products can be created with them. I know that there are techniques out there that I’m not going to cover, but my goal here is to cover the most commonly used ones. That way as you venture into this colorful world, you can better interpret the ideas you have into colorways you and others will love.
Note: I don’t have photos for every single technique, but I will include photos of what I can. They will all be photos I’ve taken myself, either of my own hand-dyes or others, and I will credit other brands as necessary.
Gradient: a gradual shift between two or more colors. This can be accomplished within a single skein with long color sections or an injection process. You can also create a gradient across multiple skeins, as pictured below. However you decide to divvy up the yarn itself, whether within a single skein or a set of skeins, you create the gradient itself by mixing the dyes in changing ratios that shift the hues from one to the next. If you want a quick color change, use a lower fraction, like 1/3: first cup would be 100% color A, the second cup would be 50% color A and 50% color B, and the third cup would be 100% color B. Then for a more gradual color change, use a higher fraction, like 1/6: first cup is 100% color A, second cup is 80%/20% color A/B, third cup is 60%/40% color A/B, fourth cup is 40%/60% color A/B, fifth cup is 20%/80% color A/B, and the final cup is 100% color B. Lots of math, but if you measure carefully and keep good notes, you'll be able to create seamlessly flowy gradients--and reproduce them if desired!
Tumblr media
Hand-painted: the term used for the process of applying dyes to the yarn by hand in various patterns, color sequences, etc., to create a variegated colorway. You can use a foam brush, you can pour the dye out of a measuring cup, or apply it in other ways as you prefer. You generally use a flat pan of some type and just enough water to heat set the dye, but you intentionally avoid completely submerging the yarn, which gives you a higher degree of control over where the dyes go. This also creates starker color changes for a higher contrast look.
Tumblr media
(photo by me of Cameo Yarns colorway Prim)
Injection dyeing: this is a fun process you can use to create a gradient effect within a single skein. First up, wind the hank using a ball-winder instead of leaving it in a loop. Then put it in the pot to make sure it's completely saturated. Then you use a giant syringe or baster full of dye to inject the color into the center of the skein. It will slowly bleed outward within the ball, creating a dark-to-light transition. You can include a second color by putting dye into the pot around the ball and letting it slowly bleed into the ball.
Kettle-dyed: this process involves fully submerging the yarn in the dye bath and having extra water in the pot to leave room for the yarn to freely move in the pot and absorb the dye. It can be single-colored (semi-solid/tonal) or multi-colored (variegated) as desired, and it gives a more watercolor effect to the colors than hand-painting generally does.
Ombré: this type of colorway typically involves one very long, gradual transition between a light and mid or dark colorway. It can also be called a gradient technically.
Over-dyed: if you have some yarn you're not in love with anymore, or maybe your mad science experiment in the dye pots didn't turn out quite right, you don't have to toss the yarn! You can over-dye it and revitalize it! It's the same process as dyeing it up the first time, you'll just be a touch more limited on what you can do depending on the colors in the yarn that you're wanting to dye over. Light colors are easy and should be fine with mid-tones. If it's a mid-tone yarn, you'll be looking at dyeing it with darker colors unless you want to change the color by "mixing" the new dye with the existing tone. It's truly an experiment, so you'll have to see for yourself how the colors play with each other!
Self-striping: when dye is applied in super long color sequences that when knitted, it creates a striped fabric without having to mess with changing colors and carrying yarn or weaving in a bunch of ends. Very popular for socks!
Semi-solid: when the yarn is all the same color, but there are light and dark variations within the hue rather than being completely solid. This occurs when different parts of the hank absorb the dye at different rates, creating places that are more saturated, yielding darker tones, or less saturated, yielding lighter tones.
Tumblr media
Solid: an even color application without light and dark variation.
Speckled: a technique that creates spots of color on the yarn that add a splash of color and fun texture.
Tonal: same product as semi-solid, just a different way to say it.
Variegated: this term is used for colorways with more than one dye color. This can be accomplished via multiple processes as outlined above--hand-painted or kettle dyed.
Tumblr media
I think I've covered the most common terms and the most widely-used processes in dyeing yarn, but if there's something I've forgotten, definitely leave a comment so I can add to this list! I hope this gives you a strong foundation from which you can truly build a love of this craft and enjoy the work of your hands and imagination!

Chapter 6: Warmth
Corrin stirred slowly. What happened to the cold? she thought to herself. It was warm, it was cozy, and she listened to a steady heartbeat before taking in that familiar scent. A familiar, spicy, masculine scent. She bit her lip. It was dark. Then she exhaled.
“How’s your head, princess?” a voice whispered.
“My head?” Corrin barely managed to reply in a hushed whisper. Ouch. She felt the pain radiate in her jaw to her cheekbone. She winced then swallowed, still trying to make sense of her surroundings. The motion at which her body was moving led her to believe she was on a horse. She turned her head away from the warmth to find fabric across her face. No wonder it’s so dark, she thought, finding the opening of the fabric and peeked out.
High above in the sky, she spotted Camilla and Selena on Camilla’s wyvern. She couldn’t hear their conversation as they were too far, but it was clear that Camilla was upset. In front of Corrin were Xander and Leo riding next to one another on their mounts respectively.
“You shouldn’t have placed her up front,” Leo told Xander, recalling his countless hours of battle strategy. “It was stupid and you were acting out of pride and anger.”
“I know,” Xander admitted, “I hope she’ll forgive me when she wakes.” He let out a sigh, letting his shoulders drop.
Corrin didn’t see any of the others, but judging by the sound of footsteps, she assumed that they were marching behind her.
“I didn’t know if you wanted everyone to know you were awake,” the voice whispered so that only Corrin could hear. Her eye shifted to gaze above her. The owner of that voice was wearing a hood. She was still wrapped up, hidden underneath the cloak, but the white hair and the metal glimmering on the eyepatch gave the voice’s owner away. Corrin’s heart skipped a beat- why? she wondered.
“I didn’t,” she struggled to say through gritted teeth, turning her head towards his chest and embracing the darkness underneath the cloak once more. “Thank you,” she whispered reluctantly. He adjusted his right arm that was cradling her head, placing it on her waist now so that her head leaned back against his upper arm.
Xander glanced behind him to check on his younger sister and caught the movement, “Is she awake?” he asked Niles.
Niles cleared his throat, “No, milord, just getting comfortable. My arm was falling asleep.”
Corrin giggled silently as she listened to the nerves in Xander’s voice. “Don’t get too comfortable,” Xander replied before turning back to the front. Corrin smiled before wincing again. Still sore.
“You’re so warm,” Corrin whispered, taking comfort in the heat coming from Niles’ chest.
Niles chuckled a hushed chuckle, “Oh, come on, you know how hot I can get. Perhaps you need reminding- tonight maybe?” he teased.
“Niles?” Corrin rolled her eyes, continuing her whisper through gritted teeth, “My head is pounding. I’d appreciate it if you wouldn’t joke at this time.” She silently thanked the Gods that he couldn’t see her blushing.
“Who says I was joking?”
“Stop.”
“Very well. Some other time then? Speaking of which, when is the last time you ate?”
Food. I’m starving, Corrin thought to herself before letting out a weak groan. “I had some fruit this morning...”
“Wait. So, you didn’t eat dinner?” His whisper had turned harsh.
“You saw me storm off at dinner.”
“Yeah, but...I figured Jakob brought your dinner to you, like the obedient little puppy he is,” Niles snickered.
He’s not a puppy, Corrin thought, but didn’t have the energy to argue. “I told him to take the night off,” she took a deep breath of his scent. It felt as if butterflies were stirring in her chest with every whiff she caught. He smelled absolutely delicious. She brought a hand to her face and began to rub her eyes. I can’t do this. She quickly sat up and uncloaked, taking in a deep breath of the cool air. It wasn’t nearly as cold as the air was at “Boo Camp,” thankfully, but it helped with whatever personal intoxication his scent was doing to her insides.
“Big sister! You’re awake!” Elise shouted from behind Niles. She quickly directed her horse next to his with a big grin. Both Xander and Leo turned the fastest Corrin had ever seen them do anything.
Corrin smiled weakly- a warm smile, but weak, nonetheless. “H-hey, Elise,” she greeted back in a soft voice. She grabbed Niles’ upper arm to better position herself. They were sculpted to perfection from years of mastering the bow. Her heart skipped a beat again ...until she noticed that their entire party had stopped moving and were all gathered around her. She blushed, “Really, everyone, I’m okay.”
“You don’t LOOK okay!” Elise shouted, pointing to Corrin’s face. Corrin’s face had some swelling, but had turned a nice ombré of purple and reds from her jaw to her cheekbone on one side of her face.
“Oh. This? I’m sure it looks worse than it feels,” Corrin lied. Through the course of this war Corrin had suffered through many wounds, but this particular punch gave pain a new meaning.
“Liar!” Leo called out. “Really, Corrin, you are a horrible liar. Please do us a favor and stop,” he chuckled.
“Hmm.. okay...well, in that case,” Corrin began, “your collar is inside out.”
“What?!” Leo squealed, “Why didn’t any of you tell me?!”
Everyone let out a laugh before Camilla and Selena came swooping down from the sky on the wyvern. “My poor, sweet Corrin. Your face!” she exclaimed before glaring at Xander. “This is your fault!” she pointed her axe in his direction.
“Relax, Camilla! I’m fine. Really!” Corrin interrupted.
“No, she’s right, little princess,” Xander confessed. “I was being too harsh with you this evening. I should never have let you take the lead. I was too proud and now I am ashamed. I wasn’t being the big brother you deserved. And for that I beg that you’ll one day forgive me.”
Even when he was sorry, Xander had an aura around him that commanded respect. It was apparent in the way every retainer bowed their heads at his words, apparent in their eyes, even in the way they breathed.
“Xander, there’s nothing to forgive,” Corrin smiled. “The fault is mine. My mind wasn’t in the right place. I couldn’t focus. I was so upset at dinner that I made the choice not to eat and I should have. I put not only mine, but Azura’s life in danger-“ she took a look at everyone. Elise was there with Effie standing next to her horse. Camilla and Selena were on Camilla’s wyvern. Leo and Xander were on their own mounts respectively. Laslow stood between the two, moving the loose hair from his eyes. Niles was obviously behind her, but Azura was missing. Corrin gasped, “Where is Azura?” she asked in a panic.
Niles pressed his lips against the back of Corrin’s left ear. “She flew ahead-” he said into her ear before she flinched, putting her hand to that ear and turning away from him. Her skin was suddenly covered in goosebumps and the apples of her cheeks reddened. Xander narrowed his eyes suspiciously before Leo spoke up, “Niles! Too close!”
“Apologies,” Niles nodded towards Leo obediently, but not without his famous smirk. He took a quick look at Corrin before leaning back. “She flew ahead to camp that way Jakob would be ready to tend to you when we arrive.”
Corrin scrambled to cover her ears with her disheveled hair. She straightened the Nohrian crown. “Oh, okay.” Her reply was short. She was trying her hardest to keep her composure around everyone.
“Are you alright, baby sister?” Camilla asked as Selena rolled her eyes impatiently.
“Big sister, I’m fine. I’m just hungry so if we could just just continue to camp...”
“She’s right,” Selena butt-ed in, “We’re all tired. Can we talk once we get to camp or better yet, tomorrow?”
Xander nodded, “We aren’t far. Just a few miles more. Let’s go, everyone!”
“You’re so cute when you’re impatient,” Camilla said to Selena as she pinched her cheek and zoomed back into the night sky.
Corrin looked down and caught the violet eyes of Laslow staring at her. He immediately turned a bright red before flashing a smile, brushing his hands through his hair, then turned to follow Xander.
Please let the time fly by, Corrin thought to herself as Niles clicked his tongue against his teeth signaling for his mount to begin moving forward.
———
Time went by excruciatingly slow. Corrin couldn’t figure out if it was because of the pain radiating in her face that made it so excruciating. She spent the rest of their journey back to camp silent with her head resting against Niles’ chest. Her head pounded and her stomach ached, nausea curling into her chest. Resting her head against him was the only source of comfort she had available to her in that moment. Thankfully it wasn’t an action that would be questioned because of her physical state.
As they approached the gates to their camp in the astral plain, Xander said loudly enough for everyone to hear, “Almost there. Just a few more paces.” Corrin took in a deep breath of the cool night air. Thank the gods, she thought to herself. Food.
At the gates stood three of her retainers- Flora, Felicia, and Kaze. Niles’ horse trotted into camp slowly before stopping next to the retainers.
“Lady Corrin,” Kaze said in his warm voice before nodding. He reached up to help her down from the horse. Niles gently surrendered her to her retainer, his grasp firm along her arm and her waist as she slid into Kaze’s grasp.
Corrin returned the warm smile, even directing it to her two maids. Felicia gasped as the light hit Corrin’s face revealing the dark shades of bruising.
Corrin’s face sunk, “Is it that bad?” she frowned.
“Excuse Felicia, Lady Corrin,” Flora came forward with a blanket, snickering at her sister. She unfolded the blanket and wrapped it around Corrin. “It’s nothing we can’t remedy,” Flora said reaching up to touch Corrin’s cheek. Suddenly the familiar feeling of ice was upon her face. Corrin fliched, almost falling back before Kaze stiffened his hold on her to prevent her from completely tumbling to the ground.
“Oh, Flora! You really shouldn’t have done that,” Felicia took a step towards her sister, but instead dropped the tray of various medical supplies she held.
Corrin giggled weakly, “It’s alright, Felicia. If it’s alright with you, I’d really like to get something to eat,” she put a hand to her cheek. It was icy cold, but numbed. The pain was lessened and she was thankful for that.
“Of course, my lady,” Flora nodded, “Jakob has prepared you a meal and a pot of tea. He is waiting for you in your quarters. Kaze will help you up the stairs. Let me help Felicia with this mess and we will be to your quarters shortly to help Jakob patch you up.”
Corrin smiled and began to take a step with Kaze’s assistance before quickly turning. “Oh! My sword-“ she remembered, but Niles had already freed it from his steed’s side and had the hilt of Yato offered to Corrin with a dreamy grin on his face.
Corrin made eye contact with the seductive archer while simultaneously putting her hand on the hilt. “Thank you,” she managed to smile back.
“Anytime, princess,” he smoldered, a cockiness to his tone. He observed her three retainers, chuckled, and then opened his mouth. Oh no, Corrin thought as he took a breath before speaking. “If she needs mouth-to-mouth, you all know where to find me.” He nudged his horse towards the stables and off he went.
“How crude,” Flora furrowed her brow at him. Kaze narrowed his eyes at Niles. He definitely wasn’t fond of that man. Corrin rolled her eyes. Gods, why? she questioned to the higher beings.
“Let’s get you to your quarters,” Kaze said in a hushed voice as they turned to once more head towards her room.
In the distance, Corrin could see Niles smiling and laughing with Leo and Odin as he unmounted. Camilla had just landed outside of the stables and Selena was sliding off of her wyvern then grumpily walked through the trio laughing. She could see Xander had already unmounted in the stable, Laslow by his side helping him with his equipment from his horse. Laslow sneaked in quick glances at Corrin between his conversation with Xander. She thought nothing of this and began up the stairs with Kaze’s help. When did the stairs move like this? she asked herself, clearly needing to sit down as soon as possible.
Corrin reached for the door handle when suddenly Kaze’s hand beat her to it, “Lady Corrin, please allow me.”
“Please, Kaze, I’m quite capable even if I don’t look like I am,” she laughed as he pushed the door open.
“Sorry, milady,” he apologized, embarrassed. He wasn’t trying to be over-sheltering. He was saturated in guilt- guilt that when Corrin had approached him and asked his opinion on Azura training with him the other day, he’d agreed. Corrin would never be able to tell, though. Kaze was always quite reserved. Corrin always thought it was due to his ninja training. She was still getting to know this man.
“Ah, Lady Corrin,” Jakob welcomed. He pulled the chair out from the table in her quarters and waited for her to take a seat. When Corrin stepped into the light, and Jakob caught sight of her face, he shuddered a little, trying his best to hide his reaction. Azura had given him a summary of what happened when she landed at camp so he knew she had suffered head trauma, but the intensity of the bruising surprised him.
“You, too, huh?” she sighed, sitting down in the chair. He pushed it into the table, “I apologize, milady, I wasn’t expecting the severity,” he bowed before pulling the cover from the plate in front of her. “You’ll be back to yourself in no time. Now, I’ve taken the liberty to make some of your favorites.” Before her was a steak, mashed potatoes, and a bowl of vegetable chowder. Behind the plate was a cup of warm tea. The steam was still rising from it and the teapot sat right next to it. “Ah herbal blend to help you rest,” Jakob said as if to answer the question she was going to ask at some point. Corrin nodded, not wasting any time waiting for a cue to begin eating. She quickly grabbed the fork and knife beside the plate and ate like this was the last meal she was ever going to have.
Kaze at some point slipped out unnoticed and the twin maids eventually made their way to the room. When Corrin had finished her meal the world had finally stopped spinning. Her head was still pounding, but atleast the nausea subsided. With the combination of herbs, ice magic, and staves, the three retainers were able to stop Corrin’s head from pounding as well.
“Very well,” Jakob said with a sigh, inspecting Corrin’s face. “I’m not quite sure there is anything else we can do. I suppose it wise if we all get some rest. ...unless there is something else I can help you with, my lady?”
Corrin smiled then shook her head, “No. Rest sounds good. Thank you, Jakob.” He bowed, picked up the dirty dishes, and left the room.
Flora began picking up the mess from their healing session, piling any remnants on the tray they had brought everything on.
“Let me help you get changed,” Felicia offered, unhooking Corrin’s cape. Corrin nodded in agreement. She was so exhausted that she couldn’t possibly deny her faithful retainer.
“Lady Corrin?” she asked as she began unstrapping various pieces of Corrin’s Nohrian armor.
“Yes?”
“It’s just that you’re on mess hall duty tomorrow and well, I wasn’t sure if you’d be feeling up to it. Should I fill in for you instead?”
Corrin’s widened eyes met Flora’s in an almost comical agreement. Both of them knew that Felicia in the kitchen was bad news even if Corrin didn’t have much experience herself. Mess hall duty was normally assigned in pairs so atleast Corrin could get help from whomever she was paired with. It didn’t matter who Felicia was paired with- anything Felicia cooked seemed to always come out tainted.
“Uh- thank you, Felicia, but I’ll be fine once I rest,” she smiled and slipped into her nightgown. Felicia was oblivious to her doubt. “Alright!” she exclaimed, walking with her sister to her door. “Sweet dreams, Corrin!” she squealed.
“Goodnight, Lady Corrin,” Flora said in a more proper tone, then mouthed the words “thank you” to Corrin for not substituting Felicia in the mess hall tomorrow.
“Goodnight,” Corrin smiled before they closed the door. She slipped into her freshly washed sheets and drifted off into sleep.
