Inside, outside
Pairing: 10k x reader
Warnings: Swearing, mentions of blood and brains
Chapter: 5.06
After bringing the quad bike to a complete stop when you spot a deserted-looking warehouse, 10k jumps off the back first, and immediately you’re missing the warmth of his arm wrapped around your waist. With the sling of his gun over his shoulder, he offers you his hand to help you climb off. If 10K wasn’t a gentleman before, people would probably be catching onto how protective he was being.
You, 10K, Warren, Murphy, and Addy had gone to find the source of bizkit’s and why they seemed to be low rations of it, while Doc and George headed back to Altura to keep an eye on Dante’s trial.
“Is that the bakery? The place looks abandoned.”
“It doesn’t mean nobody is home,” Warren points out.
The five of you stand on the edge of a small hill that leads down to the pathway into the building. The side of the hill was mainly covered in rubble, preventing any vehicles from driving on it.
Murphy looks lost in thought; a look of distress appears on his face. You lightly hit his arm to gain his attention. “Are you okay?”
“I smell brains.”
“This must be the place, then.”
When the five of you started making your way down the path, you were being extra cautious not to trip while walking on such a rocky surface. 10k stays in front of you and continues to glance back, ready to catch you if you do fall.
Murphy walks by you at a normal pace and scoffs, “You two make me feel sick.”
“Just keep walking, Alvin.”
“My biggest fear is losing you. When you were kidnapped, I realized how much I loved you and that there was nothing I wouldn't do to find you,” Murphy says mockingly. “You're my best friend, Tommy, and there's not a line I wouldn't cross to keep you safe.”
10k glares at him and warningly snaps, “Shut the hell up.”
Addy, who’s standing at the bottom, already looks up in confusion. “What is he talking about?”
“Nothing.”
In a high-pitched fake girly voice, Murphy says, “I knew our fates were intertwined.“
“I swear to god!” You knew Murphy was looking for a reaction, and usually you wouldn’t take the bait too easily, but he had been teasing you since you left for this new task.
“Don’t get wound up; he’s not worth the reaction,” 10k says calmly, but as soon as you reach the bottom where the others are waiting, he presses the long side of his rifle against Murphy’s collarbone, pushing him into the wall. “Lay the fuck off Murphy.”
“Jeez, lighten up, kid.”
10k steps back.
Warren clicks her fingers. “All of you, focus.”
Once you checked, nobody else was in sight. You round the corner, and Addy breaks the lock on the door, giving you all access to the building.
The inside of the building stinks of rotten meat, which is explained when you find human skulls and parts of rotten brains scattered across various baking trays.
The group had split up, but you could see both Addy and 10k going to check out the same area. It saddened you that they no longer had a close relationship, and you felt partially responsible for it, but then it was your sister who left. Since they last saw each other, Addy had lost an eye, and 10k had lost his hand, and they could have leaned on each other for support.
“Astra, I’m really sorry, but it looks like she left during the night.”
You shake your head, refusing to believe it. “No, no. Something is wrong; Addy wouldn’t just go without leaving me. She wouldn’t do that.”
When you awoke in the morning to find Addy gone, you assumed she had gone hunting, but when she never returned, a couple of hours later, you, 10k, and Red went looking for her, but you couldn’t find her. You returned to your home to see if she had returned.
Red links her fingers with yours and gives you a sympathetic look. “All her stuff is gone.”
You squeeze your eyes shut to hold back tears. Addy only found you in the first place while looking for someone else. “She’s gone to find Lucy,” you say, clearing your throat. “We should go and let Tommy know; I don’t want him out there looking for someone who doesn’t want to be found.”
You aim your gun in the direction of something being crushed and slowly make your way over to a large mixer, which appears to have turned on itself. You look inside it and almost gag at seeing more skulls.
“You guys seeing this? This place is gross.”
When you don’t get a reply, you spin around to see Warren staring at something with a concerned look on her face. She notices you looking and waves you over. When you do, you see what the problem is.
“Eh Murphy, are you good? You’re practically drooling over a skull?”
“Yeah,” he quickly shrugs your comment off. “This place just gives me the munchies.”
All of a sudden, a man appears and starts firing at the three of you. Quickly, you jump out of the way to avoid being shot and accidentally scrape your stomach on something sharp. You duck behind one of the metal tables and, taking a few deep breaths, look down to see blood appearing on your top.
No, no, no.
Murphy crawls over beside you and says, “What the hell are you doing? We gotta keep moving.”
“Yeah, yeah, I know I just—fuck.”
“Did you get shot?”
“No, I’ve just cut my stomach.” The cut wasn’t deep, and you were sure it hadn’t harmed the baby, but it gave you one hell of a fright. Between deep breaths, you start mumbling to yourself, “Tommy is going to freak.”
Seeing how afraid you are, something clicks in Murphy, and he gives you a look of understanding. He knows. Quietly, he says, “Stay behind me; we are going to make a run for it.”
You nod, and the two of you manage to run behind a different spot without being shot.
“I don’t want to hurt you, but I will if you try anything stupid.” You say, aiming at the man who was previously trying to kill your head.
While he chases Murphy and Warren off from either side, the man seemed to not care that much about weapons being so close to his head. “It looks like we’ve got ourselves a zombie standoff. You have me; I got him, and my brothers got all three of you.”
You glance around the room; it was more than likely that 10k or Addy had gotten to his brother first.
“We are looking for bizkits,” Warren says. “We have starving talkers that are starting to turn.”
“We are just trying to survive ourselves, and it’s crooks like you who have shut down the bakery and turned us into a bunch of dirty dogs. So lower your weapons and kindly waltz out of here, or we’re all going to be crawling brains.”
“Look, I don’t know who you think we are, but we aren’t them.”
“That’s what the last bunch said before they started shooting.”
You didn’t doubt the man’s story for a second; the bakery was covered in a red mist of blood. A door creaks open, and Addy and 10k bring out another man, whom you assume is the brother with a gun at his back.
“Listen,” you lower your weapon slightly, “your brother is still human, and I know you want to keep it that way. Just tell us what we want to know, and nobody else will get hurt.”
The man gulps down, “So, you're in need of some help?”
While the older man, Gilly, looks at his younger brother, Skull's nose, which was cut by your sister 10K, pulls you aside and grips a hold of the bottom of your top, “What the hell happened? Are you okay?”
“I’m fine; it’s just a cut.”
He holds your gaze. “Are you sure?”
“We’ll be fine.”
You return to your group just in time to hear Gilly explain that it was their mom who invited bizkits to save their brother, who had been bitten, but then the brother bit the mom when they ran out. And since the bombing, someone has been attacking the bakery so they won’t continue making them. Their mom had turned two weeks ago, and she was the only one who had the recipe.
You look up at the window of the office overlooking the rest of the bakery and see multiple talkers that have turned.
Murphy stands up a table, holds up a radio, and turns the music up to distract the talkers while Skull sneaks inside to get the recipe. The plan was going well until Skull tripped and fell and was bitten by their zombified brother right after their mom ate the recipe.
“I hate to say it, but the only way to keep them from turning might be to feed them actual brains.”
From the doorway at the far side of the room, multiple heavy footsteps can be heard, along with snarling and hissing. All the noise must have attracted the nearby Z’s from outside. Thankfully, only a small number of them came into the building.
You run up behind one of the Z’s and stab it in the head before shooting another two. You notice Addy and 10k working together to take out Z's, which makes you smile.
Warren cuts the head off one and tosses it to Gilly.
You stand behind 10k and bury your face into his back, not wanting to witness Gilly crushing the skull, then cutting up the brains, and then feeding them to the walkers.
When the talkers return to normal, the mom flirts with a creeped-out Murphy, kissing him on the cheek before continuing to help.
Sitting with your legs dangling over the edge of a table, you watch as the brothers bag up the last of the bizkits. Hearing a whistling noise, you look over to Murphy, who was trying and failing to be discreet by waving you and 10k over to him, then looking away.
You and 10k stand on either side of him. “What’s going on?”
“I just wanted to say...” he trails off while tracing patterns in the flour scattered across the table with his finger. Murphy's jaw clenches slightly. “I don’t like either of you, but I do think you will be great parents, even lefty over here.”
With that, he turns and quickly walks away. You share a confused look with 10k. “Did you tell him?”
“No, but I think he figured it out.”
Ultimately, you’d need to tell the others the truth sooner than later. 10k smiles and brushes strands of hair out of your face. “Go for it.”
“Uh, guys, we’ve got something we need to tell you.”
Warren and Addy step a little closer, and you try not to laugh, seeing the worried look on their faces.
“Tommy and I are having a baby.”

in the aftermath of meaning
5.07 5.06 speculation --->   As if a fire and a prison riot weren't enough for one call, someone from inside manages to take Eddie hostage. It's almost more than Buck can handle.
read on ao3
It had been hours, and Buck didn’t think he had ever been so relieved to see their rig parked outside the charred outer wall of the prison.
Their day had started here. A minor fire, manageable by those on duty, but still strong enough for outside forces to be called in. Then another, that had begun in the cafeteria.
Followed by, as if the whole event was strategically planned out, and Buck strongly suspected that it was, but such things were above his level of expertise:
A full-blown riot.
By that time police were already en route and Buck and the others were being escorted out of the prison by a SWAT team while chaos raged, spreading through the expansive prison layout and its unruly inmates like a virus.
Buck was just relieved to be breathing fresh air again. Those long minutes spent trying to find cover and keep track of his teammates had taken a toll on his body. The instant they stepped outside, his lungs filled themselves to the brim and the tightness in his limbs bled out of him for the first time in hours. He hoped Bobby had the decency to take them off the rotation for a spell just so they could have a moment to eat or rest, maybe shower some of the sweat off of them.
With that thought, he turned to express this to Eddie, who he knew without a doubt would back him up on this if Cap chose to be a hard ass instead.
The person whose footfalls he’d been listening to behind him was in fact not Eddie. For one, he was much shorter than Buck was used to. Ravi blinked up at him. That cautious, neutral expression that usually read on his face when Buck looked to him was still present, though less pronounced with his exhaustion.
“What the –” he made a move to shoo Ravi out of the way. The probationary firefighter, long since used to it, stepped quickly aside.
Buck did a full circle, lost. He swore Eddie was walking with them. “Where’s Eddie?”
Following along now, Ravi said, “I saw him last in the intake building”
“Stay right here,” he ordered, because Bobby was on the other side of the block practically, talking with incident command. Hen was at the ambulance now, putting her stuff away. He repeated the question to her before she even had a chance to see him.
Buck saw her eyes narrow, then go wide when she turned to look to her right, presumably where Eddie should be, had he followed her out. But of course – as per Buck’s query – he hadn’t been following her for some time.
“He, well, he was with me a second ago.” She sounded stumped.
“God damnit,” Buck muttered, already turning back to the prison.

origins.
kaworu  was  born  in  the  slums,  his  mother,  a  prostitute,  youthful,  a  lover  of  many  lascivious  things  and  many  a  wealthy  man  one  thing  she  didn't  care  for ?  was  the  child  she  could  not  rid  herself  of.   it  seemed  almost  too  easy,  a  way  out,  someone  who  wanted  the  child,  who  could  wipe  her  slate  clean  and  for  quite  the  fancy  sum  of  money !  there  was  no  hesitance  in  that  woman  when  she  gave  him  up  as  an  infant  and  since  then,  kaworu  has  lived  within  the  facility,  being  conditioned  to  become  a  killer  for  the  sake  of  that  family.
he  was  more  than  efficient  and  took  little  time  absorbing  the  information  he  was  taught,  be  it  hand  to  hand  combat,  the  usage  of  weaponry  as  a  killing  method,  many  unorthodox  things  he  was  proficient  with  at  an  absurdly  young  age.
but  he  didn't  kill  to  begin  with,  it  was  more  of  a  game  for  him.  it  wasn't  until  father,  someone  who  kaworu  admired  very  much,  put  him  up  against  a  fellow  test  subject  in  order  to  grasp  the  level  of  which  their  studies  were  at  and  he  ruthlessly  slaughtered  someone  he  had  once  called  a  friend,  that  he  realised  the  euphoria  that  came  with  it,  the  rush !  and  the  praise  that  he  was  given  was  intoxicating.  kaworu  would  do  anything  for  father's  sake  and  the  killing  became  more  and  more  violent  as  time  went  on,  testing  methods  of  torture  on  other  children,  instilling  the  importance  of  suffering  but  never  ending  another's  life  for  the  sake  of  information...
===
fast  forward  a  few  chapters.  (  i  have  to  add  other  things  in  here  still  LOL  )  kaworu  lives  in  an  abandoned  warehouse,  it's  his  home  base !  inside  one  would  find  his  best  friend  saru  (  the  remains  of  someone  who  tried  to  tell  him  he  couldn't  stay  there )  and  his  five  brothers  !  dog  !  all  of  them  are  called  dog.
dog,  as  they  are  all  known,  are  of  great  importance  to  kaworu,  he  saved  them  and  in  a way,  they  saved  him.  he  caught  a  bunch  of  impertinent  youths  beating  them,  throwing  rocks  at  them,  howling  with  laughter ...  it  seemed... wrong ?  so  he  killed  them,  it  was  hilarious !  watching  them  plead  for  their  lives  as  he  massacred  their  friends,  spilling  their  organs  out  into  the  alley,  prancing  in  glistening  pools  of  their  blood.  but  then  it  was  over,  but  he  wasn't  sad  !  for  the  canines  in  which  he  had  liberated  crawled  up  to  him,  quivering  and  he  patted  them,  reassured  them  and  after  a  few  days,  took  them  back  with  him  !
they  ate  well  for  those  few  nights  although,  it's  not  really  what  most  would  consider  a  well  balanced  meal.
facts.
-  kaworu  adores  shiny  things,  fancy  things,  anything  that  catches  his  eye  is  a  potential  target.  he's  a  notorious  pick-pocket.
-  he's  a  hoarder,  if  something  has  value  to  him,  he'll  keep  it.  doesn't  matter  if  its  a  slab  of  decaying  flesh,  or  a  really  pretty  bracelet  he  won  in  a  claw  machine;  they  are  all  equal  in  value  as  prized  possessions !  and  they  all  have  a  special  place  in  his  "place".
-  kaworu  loves  people.  it's  an  uncomplicated  kind  of  love,  if  he  cares  for  you,  you're  his  world  but  that  can  change  in  a  second,  he  can  go  from  clinging  to  someone  to  peeling  the  flesh  from  their  bones  in  a  matter  of  seconds.  he  has  a big  heart  though,  he  loves  all  the  homeless  animals  that  live  on  the  docks  and  calls  them  all  his  family !
-  kaworu  hates  spicy  food.  when  he  does  eat,  it's  generally  sweets,  sometimes  ...  more  often  than  not,  stolen  although,  when  he  does  a  good  job,  the  men  in  suits  give  him  pretty  coins  that  he  can  exchange  for  sweets !  he  hasn't  really  tried  to  do  it  yet,  he  gets  kinda  nervous  in  new  situations...  so  he  sticks  to  stealing  !

A Golden chance goes begging
A golden opportunity spurned just after the hour mark was the tale of the tape as North End drew 0-0 with Millwall on a mild February evening at the New Den. A sparse crowd inside the home of the Lions saw both sides have plenty of possession without creating too much but alas it was North End who won the penalty only to watch in horror as Ben Whiteman hit the upright very hard with his spot kick and the ball rebound back into play and to safety. Both sides had one decent effort in the first half and to be honest I thought North End were slightly better on the ball than their hosts. We defended quite resolutely and Gary Rowett`s side found breaking North End down a tricky little task. After the break we were clearly the better side and when Hughes was fouled it look like our moment had come only for the usually reliable Whiteman to fail on this occasion and a potential three points became only one.
Manager, Ryan Lowe made three changes to the side that drew at home with Bristol City on Saturday. Ali McCann, Ched Evans and Liam Lindsay came in with Alan Browne, Patrick Bauer and Cameron Archer dropping down to the bench. North End, in their traditional White and Blue, started solidly if unspectacularly as Millwall looked to follow up a home win on Saturday against out of form West Brom. There was little to write home about in terms of chances for the best part of half an hour but Millwall did have a free kick that hit the wall and then Iversen easily saving a shot from outside the box. Riis had one effort at the other end but it, too, was comfortably saved by the Millwall keeper. In fact both Goalkeepers were probably a little cold when they when in for their half time refreshment as most of the game had been played in the middle of the Park.
No changes for North End at the start of the second half as we started quite brightly kicking towards the 516 hardy souls sat in the North Stand cheering the boys on. I thought it was a really good following for a rearranged night game in February and credit to everyone of them for the support they gave the boys throughout the ninety minutes. Afobe went clear in the inside left position and for a moment there looked like danger but Iversen was quickly out to smother any threat from the big striker. With about sixty two minutes gone Hughes was fouled from a corner in the Millwall area and Kevin Friend pointed to the spot. Up stepped Whiteman looking confident enough but unfortunately hit the post with his effort and the chance had gone. Lowe introduced Earl, Archer and Browne but North End couldn`t force the issue and ended up having to settle for one point instead of three.
So with three matches of this nine match run in twenty eight days to go North End have taken seven points from the six games played winning one, drawing four and losing at Swansea. Far too early to make any sort of judgement on the credentials of Ryan Lowe but we have seen one or two players included that we haven`t seen in a while. One example of this was Liam Lindsay who I though did a steady job in the centre of the back three coming in for Patrick Bauer.. While the overall performance can be best described as workmanlike I though North End started better down in South Bermondsey and passed the ball quicker to the next man. I can see what Lowe is trying to do and if he succeeds it will be very good to watch. For now, though, the new manager must watch and learn with his new charges and there is no doubt he is learning plenty of things every game

Every Country in the EU is technically held to ransom if they ever want to leave the EU in the present or future being requested to pay a huge amounts of Cash Monkey Readies Drink Dosh Doe to the EU to be able to leave exit leave. What a BLOODY liberty. Unbelievable. All countries around the world needs to know that the EU is TURNING into a strong powerful Miniature Dangerous EU Cult War Machine. This EU Cult is extremely Dangerous to all Countries who are actually in the EU with also out of the EU. EU is trying. Bloody trying. The EU needs to close down end forever & ever Hallelujah Amen. This plan is 7 years ago. Gives u an idea how much is going out. Not much coming back. : how much does each country pay and where does it get spent? What do you get out the EU - where does the money go and who pays it? Spending tables | Interactive guide to what you spend | Interactive guide to what the EU spends • Get this data for 2010 • Download the data • More data journalism and data visualisations from the Guardian EU budget: where does the European Union spend our money? The EU budget is being pored over in Brussels right now. Writes Ian Traynor today: David Cameron is pressing for tens of billions of euros in cuts to the EU's next seven-year budget as the price for Britain's agreement at the Brussels summit, which could run into Saturday morning. With an annual budget of over €129bn, the EU is an economic power in its own right, more significant than many countries. So, how do those finances break down? This latest detailed data - from 2011 - shows where the hard cash goes - and where it flows from. We wanted to look at how the figures break down. Extracted from the EU budget site, we've gone for the most detailed recent numbers. Most of the EU's money comes from member nation contributions, €103.2bn in 2011. It's not completely straightforward - especially if you use the UK as an example. So, this is how it goes: • €13.8bn is the total raised from the UK. This includes money raised in duties within the UK and passed on to the EU. The UK receives a 25% fee of €850.6m for this. Within that… • €11.3bn is the UK's national contribution, which is largely based on the size of our economy. It also includes other adjustments and €2.5bn from VAT • -€3.6bn in rebates negotiated by Margaret Thatcher in 1984, called the 'UK correction' in the official data. This is paid for by other EU member states. Mostly France, which pays €965.9bn towards our rebate So, where does the money go? €118.4bn of it is spent inside the EU - the rest goes on aid and development outside the community. These are the official definitions - and what they really mean. • Administration Running the EU in each country • The EU as a global partner International aid, activities outside the EU • Citizenship, freedom, security and justice Asylum, education and culture • Preservation and management of natural resources Common agricultural policy, environment, fishing • Cohesion for growth and employment Helping poorer regions of Europe • Competitiveness for growth and employment Economic growth grants to small business, science and research Powered by Tableau Choose a country to see where the EU spends its money Germany, as the biggest economy, is also the biggest contributor, Poland is the biggest receiver. The UK contributes much more than it receives too, about €4.7bn more. Why the gap? The UK is a rich country and the EU points out that although it spends less in the UK than the national contribution, the British economy gains much more from access to European markets and contracts. UK exports to the EU were worth nearly €12bn in September alone. The biggest item of spending is Agriculture - which incorporates rural development and a small amount on fisheries. The EU points out that this is now frozen and will be overtaken by the 'economic growth' category - but at the moment it accounts for €43.8bn. The big spending is in countries like France, Spain and Ireland, especially if you look at the figures as € per person. How much does each country give and receive per person? If you look at national contributions from and spending in each country, Luxembourg is the biggest receiver in Europe. However, those figures are skewed by its tiny population of 502,000 people and the fact that it is home to several EU institutions, including the European Court of Justice, the European Court of Auditors, Eurostat and the Secretariat of the European Parliament. And in the latest budget Croatia features, as a beneficiary but not a contributor. The country is due to join the EU in July 2013. This is just a skim through the data. You can download the full spreadsheet below or download the graphic as a PDF. What can you do with it? The EU publishes the data here as part of its own interactive guide. C2S: Transforming two souls to Jesus
Good day to my fellow youth in this generation and to Mrs. Belinda C. Porto, the epitome of the true beauty! The country has been engaged in numerous religions, in which the most dominant are Islam and Christianity nowadays. According to a survey, there are 81.04 percent of the population are Catholics, 5.06 percent are Muslims, 2.82 percent are Born-Again Christians and 18.08 percent are from the other religions, including Iglesia ni Cristo, Philippine Independent Church and Mormon. From this report, a religious group expects that the percentage of the Muslims will slightly rise while the percentage of the Christians will slightly decline by 2050. Consequently, the men and women were alarmed about this report so they urge everyone to commit in the Great Commission to rescue souls for Jesus.
The Church of God-Dasmariñas, one of Born-Again Christians churches in the country, came up with the Connect 2 Souls (C2S) Program. It was implemented on August 20, 2016. This program is one way to connect two souls from the unbelievers and believers of Christ. It also provides an avenue for discipleship through small groups. It consists of teaching materials like manual needed to teach the souls being connected inside and outside the church.
The C2S program was designed for a lecturer to see people growing in grace and faith, and reflecting to the Lord Jesus Christ. The church was released a C2S devotional manual which serves as a guide to help the mentor of a small group how to live Christ, like Christ, and for Christ. It also aims to build a solid foundation they need for a lifetime growth in Christ. It offered four modules consisting of six lessons which divided into the following sections: Connect, Words to Ponder, Pointers, Dig Deeper, Life Applications and Pray. C2S sessions impart you and your group to empower God’s missions for us and connect more souls for the Lord. Moreover, anyone can also download the C2S app to know further information about the church and associate with other ministries.
Finally, the church’s purpose is to consecrate the city to be part of God’s army as they conquer the souls from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Let us be willing to put His agenda above all else, especially the agenda of saving the lost. According to Ptr. Anthony V. Velasco, Senior Pastor of COG-Dasmariñas, this burden will continually run in our blood streams and to burn in our hearts passionately. May God help us to impart to the next generation this vision of continually saving souls for Jesus Christ. C2S program changes our goals to make Jesus known in our words and deeds for this nation.

Teen spirit
Pairing: Carl Grimes × reader, Maggie Greene × sister reader
Warnings: Swearing
Chapter: 5.06
You wake to the feeling of a foreign object beneath your head; your group has managed to withstand the storm and the walkers during the night. By the time the sun was starting to rise, everyone was exhausted and tried to get a few hours of sleep, but luckily the barn was sturdy enough to withstand the storm. Your eyes flutter open, and you realize you’re sleeping on Carl’s arm.
You jolt up right, clear your throat, and brush the hay sticking to your clothes off. Hearing a chuckle, you look over your shoulder to see Abraham shaking his head in amusement.
“Where’s Maggie?”
“Gone to check the perimeter with Sasha.”
Not knowing what else to do, you start to gather spare pieces of wood that were scattered in various places inside the barn; they would most likely come in useful. After some time, the door to the barn is slowly pushed open.
“Everyone…” Maggie steps inside and is followed by a man. “This is Aaron.”
Immediately, Rick, Noah, and Daryl point their weapons at the man.
“We met him outside; he’s by himself. We took his weapons, and we took his gear.”
Aaron stares nervously as Daryl pats him down to check for any hidden weapons. When Judith starts crying, you take her from Rick’s arms and try to soothe her by gently rubbing her back.
“Hi, it’s nice to meet you.” Aaron attempts to shake Rick’s hand but doesn’t get close enough to him to do so. As soon as he steps forward, everyone is ready to leap on him.
“You said he had a weapon?”
Maggie walks forward and gives the man’s gun to Rick, who inspects it and then tucks it in the back of his jeans. He stares at the man and asks, “Is there something you need?"
“He has a camp nearby,” Sasha says. “He wants us to audition for membership.”
The look in Rick’s eyes is almost feral.
Sheepishly, Aaron says, “I wish there was another word. The audition makes it sound like we’re some kind of dance troupe. That’s only on Friday nights.” When nobody laughs at his joke, he pulls a face, realizing this was going to be more difficult than he first thought. “I’m, and it’s not a camp; it’s a community. I think you would all make valuable additions, but it’s not my call. My job is to convince you all to follow me back home.”
You hold Judith closer to you. “You really expect us to follow a stranger?”
“I know; I wouldn’t follow me either. Not until I knew exactly what I was getting into. Sasha, can you hand Rick my pack?”
Cautiously, she does as he asks.
“In the front zipper there’s an envelope with pictures of the community. There’s no way I could convince you to come with me just by talking about our community. That’s why I brought those. I apologize in advance for the picture quality; we just found an old camera at the store.”
“Nobody gives a shit,” Daryl says bluntly.
Rick takes out the pictures and starts to look through them. The only one you see is of large panel walls. Aaron starts to explain the pictures, but Rick punches him in the face, knocking him out.
You stare out through a small hole in the barn wall, looking out for anyone who might be trying to sneak up. Rick ordered everyone to keep looking out while he and Carl riffled through Aaron’s belongings. So far, they have found a flare gun, toilet paper, and a few other standard things to have in your bag during the apocalypse.
Aaron refuses to tell Rick how many of his people are outside, with the argument that nobody would believe him if he told the truth. But he admits that it was him who left the bottles of water out on the road for your group and that he had been watching your group for some time.
After briefly disagreeing with Michonne, Rick agrees that your group should split into two teams. One to check out the area where Aaron says he left his vehicle, and the other to keep an eye on them from a distance.
You go to leave with the second group, but Rick calls you back, “Hope, I’m going to need you to stay here with me. Help keep Judith safe.”
You hold Judith, who is crying, while Rick tries to grind some nuts into a wooden bowl with the back of his gun.
Aaron, who is tied to a wooden beam, watches with a helpless look in his eyes. “You did see the jar of applesauce in my bag, right?”
Rick shoots him a deathly glare.
“This isn’t a trick. This isn’t about trying to make you like me.”
“What is it about, then?” You ask.
“Self- preservation. Because owners hear her and come this way, I know I’ll be the first to go.”
Aaron wasn’t wrong. You glance over at Rick, whose gaze is still burning into the stranger. Rolling your eyes, you hand Judith to her father and go over to the table, where the different jars and cans are sitting.
“Hope.”
You say nothing and keep looking until you find the jar of applesauce.
“Hope,” Rick says more sternly. “Don’t open that; you don’t know what’s in it.”
Aaron gives him a look of disgust. “You think I’m trying to poison your baby daughter?”
It was clear the stranger hadn’t encountered the same type of monsters your group has; a cold shiver runs down your spine when you think of Terminus. “It would surprise you how cruel people can be.”
He looks between you and Rick and says, “I’m tied up, and you’ve already expressed a willingness to stab me in the head. How would cruelly killing your daughter in front of you in any way help the situation?”
“Maybe she doesn’t die; maybe she gets sick. Maybe you’re the only one that can help her, and I just lose.”
While Arron and Rick go back and forth, you open the jar and smell the sweet, recognizable scent of homemade applesauce. You pick up a spoon and try a small amount, just in case it is poisoned.
“The girl believes me.”
You grimace as the texture of it rubs against the roof of your mouth. Rick looks up at you, a fearful expression on his face. “What did you just do? That could be poisoned.”
“It’s definitely applesauce.”
You hold up the jar, and Rick takes the spoon and tries it for himself before deciding it was okay for Judith to eat it. He was definitely pissed off that you tried some. You take the baby again and move to sit down on some hay before helping her to eat.
“The community is big enough; we can find a place for you all to live where, even when she cries, no one can hear it outside the walls.”
Rick shoots him a look and says, “You've got forty-three minutes for the rest of my people to come back.”
After having a small amount of food in her belly, Judith falls asleep with her head pressed against your shoulder as your run circles against her back. Before the apocalypse, you hated being around babies for long periods of time. You hated the sounds of their cries and how much attention they needed, but now you’d risk your life over and over again to protect the sweet girl who you had grown to care about so much.
“She ate it all?” Rick asks quietly while sitting down beside you on the ground.
“Yeah,” you nod. “She’s just fallen asleep.”
Rick looks as if he’s contemplating what to say next. A few moments pass, then he lets out a deep sigh, “She needs you. I know everyone helps look after her, but aside from me and Carl, you’re the closest one to her.”
“Beth used to love singing to Judith.”
He rubs at your shoulder. “I know, I know. It’s hard to keep moving forward when you lose someone you love, but take it from me: it’s best to keep pushing forward because if you don't, well, it’s not always easy to pull yourself back once you let the grief consume you.”
A few tears fall and roll down your cheeks, but you force a smile. He was right, and you would need to learn to deal with your grief sooner or later.
Rick tilts his head back. “How did you know it was applesauce?”
“My mom used to make it for the church bake sale. I always loved the smell of it but hated the texture.”
He lightly chuckles and says, “That explains the faces you pulled.”
Out of the corner of your eye, you can see Aaron observing how Rick is treating you.
Carl gives you the Polaroid pictures, and together you flick through them. “What do you think?”
You shrug, “I think it’s pretty, but larger glass windows aren’t exactly zombie-proof.”
“That’s what I was thinking too.”
Carl puts the picture back into the picture envelope before turning his attention back to his sister.
The last twenty-four hours had been hectic. Once the rest of your group returned, it was decided you’d split up again. Rick, Glenn, and Michonne would drive, with Aaron giving them directions to meet up with his partner, while the rest of you went in a campervan. However, the vehicles ended up separated, but eventually you found the right location and met Eric, Aaron’s boyfriend, who had broken his ankle while running from walkers.
It wasn’t until late into the night that Rick, Glenn, and Michonne arrived with Aaron.
Something changed for Rick, and he trusted Aaron a little more and finally agreed that your group should go to Alexandria.
“Do you think we’ll like this place?” You ask, just as Rick brings the car to a stop outside your house, what could possibly be your new home.
“I hope so.”
