I find it so funny when Astoria or Lewyn pop up out of nowhere whenever mc fucks up like WOW I would assume being alive for centuries would make you a little less unemployed like you two desperately need a job that's not terrorising a poor highschool kid.
Honestly MC has more patience than me by now I would've set the entire town on fire for real just out of spite.

Tumblr media
Once…there was a legend. Of the clan that inherited the will of an Aeon, Long the Permanence. This clan was bestowed with the gift of immortality, being able to spend hundreds of years roaming this world.
This legend…revolves around two beings that directly inherited this will. The will of the heart of the dragon. Those who have successfully inherited this will through trials and challenges will be bestowed with power that overleaps its bounds of regular limits.
Born from different eggs, yet inherit the same heart, was two siblings. Similar to each other, yet so different from the other. A fierce and stoic brother, and a kind and gentle sister. One inherited the might of the seas, and the other inherited the wisdom of the remedies.
Once this shy but sociable sister desired to find company. So her confident but reserved brother brought her and introduced her to a group outside the walls of her confines.
With the arrogant heart that she managed to pure, she followed through with eyes of a child, and a heart yearning for more. A heart that showed nothing but kindness, until the blacksmith taught the princess the meaning of love.
But siblings don't go too far from each other. Sooner rather than later, even the brother began to favor his heart towards the short-lived species. The heart that was in his sister began to resonate as greed and jealousy plagued his soul.
He would fight, even if it meant going behind his dear sister's back.
With greed…all three of them fell into ruin. Even the homeland they so desperately tried to protect…
The dragon went missing, the princess lay in rest, the blacksmith was cursed and the prince's kin was exiled.
"This is a legendary tale told amongst the Vidyadhara children," said the nurse to her charge. The young doctor sighed and pouted, a cute frown on her lips, a rosy blush on her cheeks.
"Why are there only tales of woe wove from the history of dust ?" the next high elder asked, looking up from her many books, setting down her brush that was dipped in black ink.
"Because in the end, we can only remember the memories that impacted us the most, Lady Bailu."
Bailu huffed, and crossed over her arms before looking up at the ceiling that housed her in her little 'cage'. The tail behind her whipped in annoyance, the shackle binding it making it heavy.
"I wonder what happened to them after the story ended..."
It happened all in a blink of an eye. In one moment, she had knocked down one of the Mara-struck soldiers. She was about to hand her gourd to one of the healers to apply to the fallen star when the other plagued ones had rose to their feet, about to attack her.
The trailblazers (Y/n) had recognized from Jing Yuan's hologram meeting were there too, watching from the sidelines as they stiffened, grabbing their weapons as they were about to step in to assist. The grey haired star traveler with her bat, the pink haired girl with her bow, and the man with the power of the imaginary.
But before they managed to step in, a cool icy breeze pushed past them, small thin petals of ice drifting in the wind from behind them. The wind began to pick up, all of a sudden from out of nowhere. All visions blurred for a slight moment as the icy winds shut their eyes.
A determined thump of a heal resounded in the little dragon's ears, as her eyes were blinded with the sudden hurricane.
"Freeze within the confines of beauty and purity," a cold yet warm voice whispered through the mist.
As eyes opened again, the mara struck soldiers were stuck in lotus like cages, cold air being stuck in their confines, freezing them to the core. The abominations thrashed in there, but their movements were growing slower by the second.
But that wasn't all.
In front of Bailu, stood a tall woman, her (h/c) swaying around her as the winds died down, probably due to the extreme power this woman exerted just from her form.
"Are you alright ?!" a woman asked, standing proudly and protectively in front of the healers that were startled from the sudden confrontation.
This woman...the lady with silky (h/c) hair like the finest silk, woven from the freshest flowers. Eyes of (e/c) carved from the most brilliant precious stones in the universe. Skin so clear and soft, like a child that had just hatched from their egg. Blue horns that perched on her head, confirming her identity and status.
Bailu would be crazy not to recognize the woman before her.
"L-lady Dan--" Bailu cut herself short, knowing the information she had received earlier.
"Lady (Y/n), what are you doing here ?!" the young dragon girl asked.
(Y/n) looked behind her to immediately notice the horns perched atop of the girl's head, the tail swishing so eagerly behind her. She frowned, her eyebrows creasing for a moment. Her beautiful purple tail...was shackled. For what reason...?
"Are you alright ?" (Y/n) asked, crouching down in front of the young heiress, hands on her arms as she looked into those troubled blue eyes. Once she had received a nod from the young girl, she turned to the Astral Expressers, her hands clutching her fan tightly.
"I...I'm alright ! M-my name is Bailu !" the little girl quickly introduced. (Y/n) raised an eyebrow at the hastiness. Was this little girl...scared of her...?
"Give them a moment. You can knock them out cold once the ice lotus has froze them." (Y/n) said with a nod to the oldest of them, finding her instincts telling her that he was leading the two young women.
Soon after she was sure that the forsaken ones had froze from her powers, the ice petals of the lotus that caged them moved in a wilting way, releasing the abominations of their confines and disintegrating into fine mist. And the Nameless got to work.
"Thank you for your assistance, Lady..." the brunette-haired man asked, looking at the refined young dragon woman before him. He wasn't quite sure how to address the woman before him, but he was sure she was of high standing, based on her clothes, horns, air of elegance, show of power. And most of all...the way the young dragon lady addressed her as Lady.
"(Y/n). My name is (Y/n)." (Y/n) said with a nod, standing up to acknowledge the help. Bailu had went off with the other healers to assess the wounds and conditions of the Mara-struck soldiers, being knocked out cold for a while as Bailu gave them her elixir.
"Lady (Y/n). My name is Welt Yang," the brunette man introduced before gesturing to the other two women. "And this is March, and Stelle."
March beamed out a happy and bubbly 'Hello !" at the woman, and Stelle nodded in acknowledgment, commenting shortly about 'You have pretty horns. Are they real ?'. (Y/n) nodded softly, finding Stelle's question rather...humorous.
"Thanks for helping to stabilize the patients..." Bailu sighed as she turned around from the fallen mara-struck soldiers to meet the Trailblazers that had helped them.
"Your...'assertive sedations' techniques are quite effective." Bailu acknowledged with a small nod.
"Assertive sedation techniques...? Does she mean beating people up ?" March asked with a finger to her lips.
"However..." Bailu said, looking behind her, and then looking down to the ground. "These Cloud Knights were already sick, and now they're injured too. I've gotta bandage up their wounds, realign their bones...ugh, as if I didn't have enough already on my plate !"
Then (Y/n) turned to Bailu. "I could help you if you need. If I could just remember things right, I should be able to do it." she said with a nod, and Bailu gleamed in joy.
But before Bailu could express her gratitude, March cut in with a question, after inspecting the two horned beings before her, trying to connect the dots. "Where did you come from, little one ? Is your dad around ?"
Then March turned to (Y/n). "Do you know where her parents are ?"
Before (Y/n) could answer, Bailu chirped up, "I don't have a dad."
"Uh...what about your mom ?" "I don't have a mom either."
(Y/n) was so perplexed at the exchange, she couldn't even find it in her to laugh at how clueless and vague Bailu made the Vidyadhara situation to be.
Bailu sighed, looking at March then shaking her head in disappointment. "I get it, you think because I'm small I'm must be a runaway child."
"Welcome to the Xianzhou, my short-lived outsider friends, appearances can be deceiving here !" Bailu announced, her little hands on her hips. "The Vidyadhara race is self-reincarnating. No mum or dad required !"
"What she means is, as you can see here, we're not humans. We're a more draconic race known as the Vidyadhara. Our most significant features are our pointed ears, but for special cases like for myself and Miss Bailu here, we have horns and a tail." (Y/n) explained, crouching down and placing a hand on the small back of the little lady next to her.
"We don't have parents. Whenever we are gravely injured or our bodies no longer are able to sustain us, we return back to an egg for reincarnation process." (Y/n) patiently explained, using what knowledge she had from her 'past' life. Although it wasn't too hard to dig out since it was general knowledge instead of self-history.
"Yeah ! I've been studying the art of healing ever since I cast off my old shell ! You're looking at a recognized, practicing, dedicated doctor !" Bailu proudly said in front of the Trailblazers, and in front of (Y/n).
(Y/n) let out a soft chuckle, realizing why this child was a little hesitant with her in the beginning. This child wanted to show (Y/n) she was a capable person. For what reason ? Perhaps this abundance of energy would let it slip later.
"Belobog kids are making snowmen while children here are writing prescriptions..." March said, as she looked at Stelle. A frown pulled at her pretty lips, while her companion shook her head in response.
Bailu looked up at March, worry in her pretty sea eyes. "Things haven't been very peaceful on the Luofu recently. Make sure you don't--" "Go running around, right ?" March continued, a soft smile on her lips.
"Well your general gave us an errand, so I'm afraid we have to." March said, shaking her head.
As they continued to talk, (Y/n) couldn't help but notice the constant pair of eyes that burned through her back. It seemed that there were some that are quite...dissatisfied with her presence here. She was sure that when Jing Yuan allowed her to roam the streets, he must've held an audience with the Six Charioteers, the Ten-Lords Commission and the Vidyadhara Preceptors.
So why is that maid in the back there looking all fidgety...?
(Y/n) turned around to leave the group (after learning how to exchange beacons with Bailu and the rest), and walked towards the maid that stood quite a ways behind them. She wasn't much of a person up for confrontation, but if matters called, she didn't mind putting people in their place, now so that she had regained some memories of her past identity.
"You." (Y/n) asked as she stood in front of that maid. This was the maid that looked quite dissatisfied with (Y/n) from the moment (Y/n) stepped close to Bailu.
This woman had pointed ears. Huh. So it must be Bailu's retainers, then. Such a heavy watch for a child that could barely even reach her waist. Had something happened once she had succumbed to her slumber ?
"I was hoping you'd never step close to Miss Bailu." the woman said, and it made (Y/n) raise her brow at this.
"And why is that ? Is she not the next High Elder ? Does she not have a say in what she should and should not do ?" (Y/n) asked, her hands holding onto the fan.
"Once you had woken up from your slumber, the Preceptors are threatening to remove Miss Bailu of her position. After your brother, Dan Feng threatened to ruin the High Elder Succession of the Luofu..."
"Hold on. Miss Bailu's draconic features is more than enough proof for her to be the High Elder, is it not ?" (Y/n) said, putting a thoughtful hand to her lips. Then she shook her head. "And if you're worried about the succession of the new High Elder, you mustn't worry. For as long as my brother does not return, I cannot be the High Elder, no matter how much power I behold."
"I would merely be...incomplete without him."
And suddenly, she felt as if her heart was beating loudly in her chest. Her eyes widened as she suddenly felt the loud thumping in her chest, pulling her somewhere. Somewhere...familiar.
Following her heart, she excused herself from the maid and went off. It felt as if something was pulling her heart, like a string pulling her along where she walked.
Past the citizens...through streets...and into the dark alleyway none would've dared walked into.
She was alone in the dark. She wondered not why did she follow her heart without thinking rationally. She clutched her fan tightly in one hand, though she was sure anyone in their right mind wouldn't want to venture into these silent and cold dark spaces. Not when there was the internal strife she was told about.
(Y/n) shook her head, pondering about why did her heart really bring her here. That was, until she felt strong arms wrap around her smaller form, her back colliding with a rock-hard surface, and a weight softly dropping itself onto her shoulder, breathing softly as the individual took in her scent of flowers and ice.
"Even though I didn't want to let you see me again..." a deep and cold voice resonated in her ear. Then soft lips pecked themselves on her shoulder.
"I just had to see you one last time..."

April Creator of the Month: Aallotarenunelma

Tumblr Blog My Masterlist
How do you want to be known on Tumblr?
Aallotar is fine. I am agender. My pronouns are they/them.
More below...
1- When did you start playing Choices? What was the first book you played?
I saw the app being highlighted a lot in Google Play in 2017, but it was only at the end of February-beginning of March 2018 that I downloaded it. It was when Perfect Match 1 started releasing and shortly before Bloodbound 1 began releasing. Time is flying!
There were already a lot of books, and it was a bit overwhelming. I chose the series that was being heavily advertised: The Royal Romance.
2- When and why did you join Choices fandom?
I joined the Choices sub-Reddit in July 2019, then the Tumblr fandom in April 2020.
I first joined the sub because I wanted to discuss the books and the characters, and hopefully befriending other players. It was lonely to read the books, and having no one to share my opinions and theories with. Then, I took a step back from it and after lurking a bit, I joined the Tumblr community.
3- How did you pick your blog name?
When I joined Tumblr, in April 2020, it was initially to be a Writblr. I was writing a story about a heroine named Aallotar. Its title gave my blog’s URL. My blog’s title is its English translation: Aallotar’s dream.
In the end, my blog turned into a bit of everything.
4- Pull up the first post in your archive, and tell us about it!
This is my very first post. This is my original writing, conveniently mentioned right above. :)
5- Do you write fanfiction, create fan art, or are you one of those really gifted people who do both?
I define myself as an artist because I create. This is how I express myself. It doesn’t matter if the pencil I use is to write or to draw as long as I create. Before I started learning how to draw, I was always saying that I was drawing with words. To me, this is what writing is. I draw and paint with my words to depict stories that my characters want me to tell.
I mostly write, but I also create fan art, such as sketches and various kinds of edits: quotes, sprites, moodboards, etc.
6- How long have you been creating for Choices and for any other fandoms?
For the defunct app Lovestruck, from December 2020 to October 2021.
For Choices, since April-May 2020.
7- What is your favorite Choices book, and what is your favorite Choices book to create for?
My all-time favourite Choices book is Veil of Secrets. I adore it!
I heavily create for the It Lives Anthology - the three books - and also for Immortal Desires. I love these books so much that I made a crossover, and most of the characters from the Anthology and from ID have met and even befriended each other.
8- Share your first Choices fanfic or fan art that you posted with us. Do you still like it, or would you change it if you were creating it today?
My first Choices fiction is a Blades one: Of Stardust and Light.
I still love it and I wouldn’t change anything - except the typos and the clumsy grammar/syntax, due to the fact I am not an English-native speaker.
For a long time, I thought it was my masterpiece, that I wouldn’t write something as good or even as better than this. But I proved myself wrong in the end.
The other reason why I wouldn’t rewrite it now is because I have definitively stopped writing for my Blades pairing, Tyril x Soile. I made it official a few months ago, and this decision is final.
9- What is your favorite piece of fiction or art that you created?
It’s really hard to choose only one, but I do have a soft spot for Répondez, S’il Vous Plaît ! #3 because this is where I tell about my OCs’ Ash and Skylar’s meeting. It was a story I wanted to write for a long time and I love it.
Chronicles of a Crimson Summer deserves to be mentioned as well. This is the longest story I have shared here, and it’s a real balance of angst, fluff, and funny moments. Also, because its birth was extremely painful, so for all of these reasons, I am glad I wrote it and shared it.
10- Do you have a fic/art that you didn’t expect to be well received, but it was? What about one you expected to do well but found it could use a little more love?
I never expect anything I share to be well received, whether it’s a fiction or a drawing. I’m only sharing it, hoping that at least someone will find it and enjoy it. Even better if it helps the person in any way.
That said, sharing my art remains a lot more difficult than sharing my writing, so any art reblog is leaving me a bit confused, due to my imposter syndrome.
Most people here who are familiar with my stories have read some of the funny stories I have shared, as well as the fluffiest stories I have ever written - sometimes too fluffy for me.
However, this isn’t only what my writing is about. Darker Than Night has generated so much indifference that it saddens me.
This series really shows what my writing is, minus the layer of humour that you can usually expect. It truly deserves better, just like In Joy and Sorrow, that actually gives a good idea of what my writing really is.
11- (WRITERS) If you could write only angst, fluff, or smut for the rest of your writing life, which would it be and why?
I usually share a lot of fluff here, because the world outside is hard, so I want to uplift people with sweet and funny stories. However, my original writing is usually angsty with some funny and fluffy moments to alleviate all the angst a little. So, I’m choosing angst. Definitely. To me, writing angst is comforting.
11a - (ARTISTS) If you could only draw one style or type of art for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
I could easily do oil pastels for the rest of my life. It’s an easy technique to learn, it’s very forgiving, it’s calming, and I love how it looks.
12 - Do you ever recognize yourself in any of your MCs or in your writing?
I am agender and aspec, so in any non-binary and/or aspec MC / OC of mine can be found parts of me, regardless of how they define themselves on those large spectrums. Representation is highly important to me, so this is one of the recurring themes in my writing.
Also, the witty/sarcastic and playful characters are easy to write because I know them too well!
13 - What element of writing/art do you struggle with most?
Finding the right word is difficult, either in English or in my native tongue. I always want to capture the emotion, the feeling, the landscape with the perfect word. I’m still learning in my daily life.
Regarding my art, at the level I am right now, that would be shadows. Sometimes, they look great, but they often don’t. Practice makes perfect, so this is what I do whenever I can.
14 - Do you have any neglected work you really want to finish?
I tend to have only one WIP that I see to end. One reason for this is that I usually write my stories in a notebook, before I type them down to share them. The state of the notebook is not always great; I even sometimes struggle to re-read what I corrected!
If it’s about my original work, then, yes, I want to finish that one novel’s second draft.
15 - If someone you know in real life (who isn’t involved in fandoms) asked to see your work, would you let them? If yes, what would you show them first?
It has actually happened with one of my siblings. At that time, I was only writing for Blades and had maybe like five stories posted. I let my sibling read them because we are close. For other people, I think it would be on a case-by-case basis, but most likely not. I'd rather make them read my original writing, if my shyness isn’t getting in the way.
16 - Are there any writers (published authors and/or fanfic writers) who influenced your writing or art? Are there any artists that influence you?
Émile Zola and Arto Paasilinna are my all-time favourite writers.
I am learning from every fanfiction writer I am reading. First, because I read in a foreign language. Second, because I believe you learn from everyone every day.
In terms of art, I don’t think I have a particular influence. I am still exploring my style.
17- (WRITERS)  Which one of your stories would you most like to see as a movie/series?
It would be In Joy and Sorrow. I created this It Lives in the Woods AU series to give a life to my first MC, Riikka. The one she couldn’t have. In this series, I talk about close friendships, coming outs, being bilingual/bicultural, how to navigate a romantic relationship as an aspec*, how to deal with bullying/harassment, etc. I talk about timeline collapse and time-travelling as well.
And because there’s the most delightful OC ever, my all-time favourite: Ash. He truly is one of a kind and his friendship with Dan is really something special.
*aspec: a person on the aromantic and asexual spectrums.
18 - (ARTISTS) Which one of your creations would you like to see a fiction written about?
I don’t have any yet that would justify the honor of having a fiction being written about.
19- Do you write original fiction or create non-fandom art?
I started writing when I was 10 years old. It was thanks to an assignment for my native tongue class when we were studying the structure of a fairytale. I really enjoyed writing one, so I kept writing over the summer. Little stories about everything and nothing.
I wrote my first novel when I was 13, but never dared to send it to a publisher. I kept writing novels - and not sending them, I have a nice collection, now! - and branching out in other forms of writing, in hope to develop as a writer: rpg forums, poetry, (fan)fictions, creative writing course, etc. I took a ten year break from writing (fan)fictions before returning to them.
I am working on the second draft of a novel about grief, and I have three other different novels already outlined.
Regarding art, I mostly create non-fandom art.
20-  What other hobbies do you have?
Except writing and drawing; I paint murals and do oil pastel; I do theatre; I design and crochet my own clothes.
I enjoy watching old films, Hollywood era and silent ones included, but modern films as well, if they are excellent.
I love learning foreign languages, listening to music and going to gigs.
I am also a true race car enthusiast, preferably Formula races - F1 to F4, Formula Regional included.
I also enjoy going for walks in nature and travelling.
21: Tell us anything you’d like (if you want to).
I want to thank CFWC for highlighting me, and giving me the chance to talk more about my characters, my stories, my writing and my art. This means a lot, especially as this month is also when I’m celebrating my 4 year Tumblr Anniversary.
Thank you for your support throughout these years!
I want to thank so many people, but I’m also scared to miss any of them!
Thank you to my friends, old and new. 💛
Thank you to everyone who has read and reblogged my stories and left kudos and comments on them. It has been helping me so much in believing in myself and my writing.
Thank you to everyone who has reblogged my art and my edits and left comments on them.
Thank you to every talented person who has gifted me a piece of their beautiful art, written or not, anonymously or not.
Thank you to everyone who has asked about my characters and my stories.
Thank you to everyone who has sent me positive and uplifting messages.
Lastly, thank you to every single person who has supported me these past months, in many different ways. Your kindness and your presence have made a difference, and I am grateful for those and for you all.
And a special shoutout to my fellow rainbow creators! 🌈

Dec 15 - Nice
(Ao3 Link) (Masterlist Link)
Desire did not, on the whole, consider themselves to be “nice”. Fun, yes. Exciting? Oh, without a doubt. But nice? Mm. Not necessarily. Nice to feel, to experience, possibly. But not nice in the way that many people meant it. They were nice to be with, to feel the wants and desires fill their mortal hearts with song and fire. They were nice to luxuriate in, but they were cruel. Desires were pretty things, but often left many still wanting for more. A perpetual cycle, endless in its nature. People fought and killed and did many terrible things in Desire’s name.
So no. They would not consider themselves nice.
They were, however, accused of being such by none other than 1 (one) Robert Gadling. Desire sat perched on the edge of the kitchen counter in their not-brother’s (ex-brother? What Morpheus was, exactly, to their family now was confusing at best and Destiny, of course, gave exactly zero answers to their questions.) new living situation. The flat that rested above The New Inn was rather nice, all things considered. The layout was well thought out and there were numerous features (like the deep sink, the well spaced heating, the aircon in the corner) that many desired in their own dwellings. And, as far as aesthetics went, it wasn’t terrible. Sure, you’d walk in and have no doubts that the place belonged to an eccentric “collector” (hoarder. Let’s be frank and call it what it is) with a taste for earth tones, but it still felt cozy. Even if Desire had to scoot the stack of papers and books further down the countertop.
Robert Gadling was currently occupying himself with making french toast for everyone (everyone being the two of them and Morpheus). They understood why their brother was fond of the immortal. They’d tasted his lust for life many times. In fact, they could probably argue that he’d spent more time in Desire’s realm than the Dreaming. Or at least, close to it. Plus, he was cute. If you enjoyed that sort of look. The longer hair with the nice, strong frame was quite a fetching combination. Desire wouldn’t mind getting manhandled by him a bit. They wouldn’t pursue it. Not now, at least. Back when he was still Dream, probably. But not now.
“D’you have a sweet tooth, too?” Robert asks, turning those soft brown eyes of his to Desire.
Desire grins wide. “Oh?” They purr. “Does my elder brother have a fondness for the sweet,” they turn to look at Morpheus who is currently glaring over at them from his spot on the couch. He’s bundled up in a thick fuzzy blanket and just the top of his head and eyes are visible. Desire shoots him a teasing look, their lips drawn into a smirk. “and indulgent?”
Morpheus narrows his eyes even further at Desire and it makes them chuckle. They can feel so much more from him now that their brother is human. Back when he was Dream, he’d kept a lid tightly locked over his desires, not wanting to give them anything. The only times Desire would ever feel anything rolling off of their brother was in the height of his relationships. And even that was brief. Not because they didn’t last long (although that was certainly part of it) but rather as soon as he’d realized what he’d done, Morpheus would trap those thoughts and wants back tight again.
Desire hears Robert laugh. Turning, they see the man staring over at their brother, the fondness in his eyes, unmistakable. Desires pop up like bubbles, spilling from his heart. Images of him holding Morpheus close, tucking the blanket tighter around his thin frame. Robert places a kiss on his forehead, muttering sweet nothings into his skin. Flashes of matching rings, of weddings, his heart unable to decide where, so the scene flickers between unlimited spots. The feelings of warmth, of love, of holding something so dear to him in his arms. The pang of longing long since dulled, but still present when his heart thinks back on their times together when Morpheus was still Dream. Desire has to look away lest they feel overwhelmed at the sheer intensity of one man’s wants.
“He certainly enjoys his syrups. And desserts. And chocolates.”
“Hob…” Morpheus grumbles under the blankets. Hob, yes. The once common nickname turned pet name with sole use by one ex-Endless. Desire does their best not to gag at the sheer amount of pleasant domesticity engulfing them right now.
“One or two?” Robert asks, turning back to Desire. They don’t need food. None of the Endless do, not really. But they are Want and what they want is to see how well this man’s cooking holds up. If this was the man Morpheus was choosing, he’d better be a decent cook, at least.
“Two of your best,” they say, leaning back, their hands propped behind themself. They fold their legs over one another and watch as the immortal dishes up two freshly made slices of french toast on a plate. “You can choose the toppings. I’m curious what you’ll pick.” Robert nods and gives them a thumbs up as he goes about lathering each slice with butter. He places some slices of strawberries on top of one before placing the other slice of toast on top. Robert finishes it with a hefty pour of maple syrup (the good stuff too, it seems. No corn syrup or other thickeners. Desire appreciates the dedication) and finishes it off with a dusting of powdered sugar and a few dollops of whipped cream. It looked positively decadent. More dessert than breakfast.
He hands the plate to Desire before working on another identical plate. “This is Morpheus’s favorite way to have it. Not that I blame him. It’s really fucking good.” Robert laughs. “Definitely not an everyday breakfast though if you want to be able to move for the rest of the day.”
Desire hums as they slip off the countertop and make their way over to the couch. They fall into the cushions and swing their legs up on top of vaguely where Morpheus’s lap should be. Their brother groans, shifting to let the blanket fall further down his body. It stays firmly wrapped around his bottom half, but his torso is now mostly freed. He’s wearing- Oh for the love of - of course he’s wearing one of Robert’s jumpers. Desire knows it’s not Morpheus’s because there’s no way their brother would ever wear something as ugly as that shade of green. Humanity may have changed him, but they know for certain fashion was still important to their brother.
Robert brings over his and Morpheus’s plate. He hands it to their brother with a kiss to the top of his head before taking a seat in the chair to their right. “It’s nice to see you, Desire. Glad you dropped by.” Robert says, cutting into his own, significantly less sugary slice of toast.
“I doubt my brother feels that way,” they say, scooping up a dollop of cream onto their finger before plopping it into their mouth. It was light and sugary and delicious. Desire supposed they had a bit of a thing for sweets as well. Maybe it was an Endless thing.
“Why are you here, Desire?” Morpheus asks, eyes narrowed. Always with the narrowed eyes. Desire’s not sure they’d ever seen their brother not narrowing his eyes at them.
“Because I wanted to.”
“Yes, but why did you want,” Morpheus says, mimicking Desire’s tone. “To come?”
“Oh, well. I always want to cum~” Really, it was the perfect setup. Could anyone blame them?
Morpheus rolled his eyes and Robert just chuckled as he ate. “Do not play games with me, sibling. I may not have the powers of my old office, but I am human now. And there are laws that prohibit actions you may wish to take. Tread carefully.”
Desire sighs and cuts off a piece of their breakfast, stabbing through the thick layers of bread and sugar and cream and waves the bite around on their fork. “So melodramatic. Glad to see you haven’t changed.” They swing their fork into their mouth, licking the dripping syrup off of the end of the prongs.
Oh. Well. This was rather tasty. Robert isn’t a terrible cook, after all. That’s alright then.
“Sibling…”
“Oh relax, Morpheus. I’m not here to fuck with you, as determined as you are to think so.” They huff, setting their plate onto the coffee table in front of them. “I simply wanted to make sure you weren’t withering away with your new found humanity. Couldn’t have you dying in a corner because you forgot to eat or insulted the wrong man with your social ineptness.” They shrug. “I wanted to make sure you’d be around long enough to still mess with, after all.”
“Desire, I-”
They point their finger at their brother who is now staring at them with wide eyes. Ah. So he does know how to do something other than squint. “I will still be messing with you. Don’t think I won’t.”
Robert huffs with laughter and shakes his head. “That’s nice of you, Desire. But I can promise you, I’m not letting Morpheus keel over, no matter how hard he tries sometimes.”
Morpheus turns and glares at Robert. “It was one time, Hob.”
“Yeah, still scared the shite out of me. And now you’ve never fainted because you hadn’t eaten for a whole day since, have you?”
Desire watches in amusement as their brother shrinks into the couch, holding his untouched plate of sugar and carbs closer to his chest. “No,” he mumbles, beginning to divide a bite-size piece from the whole.
“Good. I’ll hold you to it, Gadling.” They say, standing. They brush off their skirt, the small spots of powdered sugar falling away at their desire to do so. “I’ll know who to punish if my brother does wind up dead in a ditch somewhere.”
Robert meets their gaze, the easy smile he seemed to always wear falling away to a more serious expression. “And I’ll have earned it.”
Desire nods. “Then we understand each other.” They sigh, rolling their head. “Well! This has been lovely, but duty calls. Robert, thank you for the most delectable breakfast.” They turn to their brother, who was still staring at them with open eyes. “Morpheus, don’t die.”
He huffs, but nods. A bubble bursts from his brother’s heart and Desire feels his own stop. A vision, a want, appears. Morpheus and Desire are sitting there, on the couch, laughing easily with one another, as they watch something non-descript on the television. They smile at each other. Desire rests their head on their brother’s shoulder and Morpheus leans his cheek to rest on top. Just like they used to when they were much, much younger.
A tear falls down their cheek. Morpheus looks up with concern in his eyes. “Desire?”
Desire turns their head, wiping away the offending tear before shimmying their shoulders with flair. They would not cry here for such silly things, especially not in front of their brother. They turn to Robert and wide smile, ignoring the twirling feeling inside themself. “My brother wishes you would bend him in half and choke him while calling him babygirl.”
“DESIRE!” Their brother yells.
“What…” Robert all but whispers.
In a blink, Desire vanishes, retreating back to the Threshold, cradling the desire of their brother against his heart.

Dramas I watched in 2023
[Chinese Dramas]
My Journey to You - Wuxia. Spy games, badass ladies, subtextually homoerotic cousins. Gentle & sweet ML who melts the cold & calculated heart of FL assassin. Gorgeous setting and cinematography. Left me with a burning desire to see Zhang Ling He play more gentle babygirl MLs and Esther Yu to play more anti-heroes. Absolutely perfect to me.., if we just pretend the director didn't add a pointless cliffhanger in the last 5 min. Which is how I choose to live my life.
Story of Kunning Palace - 'rebirth' costume drama that I waited to air for like 2 years or something and then it... actually didn't disappoint? And was almost everything I wanted? 😳😲 This is THE couple for that post about the pair that need to be stuck in a neverending monogamous relationship with each other as a quarantine measure to protect everyone else.
A Journey to Love - wuxia perfection. The stand-out drama that I wasn't expecting. Murder mommy & murder daddy became an otp for the ages and all of the supporting characters were interesting and dynamic. I cared about so many more characters than I expected and never fast fowarded. Just immensely satisfying.
The Ingenious One - wuxia with a weak, scheming scholar protagonist on a revenge quest (yes, we've all heard that before!) who puts together a group to execute his cons, Leverage style. I love me a martial artist x weak scholar couple 👌. Some exciting twists & turns in this one. Both A Journey to Love and The Ingenious One are best enjoyed coming in with little to no information. Hell, skip the trailers and simply dive in!
Hidden Love - Modern drama. Top tier romance-novel-on-screen writing and acting. It felt honest and real. The coming of age arc for the FL was well done. Great brother & sister relationship that feels authentic. The ML's backstory was so heart breaking because it was never overplayed for melodramatics. Just a quiet pain, a distance and a burden he carried with him.
Road Home - Modern. "Do you remember who I am?" / "Yes. If I were to turn to ashes, I would still remember you." I am very weak for the "reunited exes", "second time around" trope when the actors are capable and the breakup wasn't a narratively convenient 'misunderstanding'. As a career woman who works very long hours, I also tend to appreciate modern drama relationships where the couple manages to stay functional & supportive while not having a lot of free time for each other. That's my version of wish fulfillment 😂. I felt like this narrative made me fully understand why they couldn't make a long distance relationship work as young adults but now they're ready and have experienced enough of the world to know that they are happier with their lives joined together than apart.
Love You Seven Times - xanxia. I wrote a whole review post (love letter) on this one, since it seems rather underrated. I feel like this one may actually end up one of my fav examples of the genre. I just sincerely bought into the couple and their mutual devotion.
The Last Immortal - xanxia. Terrible trailer but turns out to be a decent show. I'm a fan of the genre, so I'm enjoying it. (I think you do need to be, to enjoy it - it doesn't transcend or really subvert..just a solid representation of xanxia) I like both lead actors and they do a good job with the material. It's working better for me than Ancient Love Poetry and Ashes of Love. After being eager for Song of the Moon in 2022 but then being let down (I dropped that one quick), I'm very happy 2023 brought me 2 xanxia I liked.
Three Body - modern sci-fi. Book 1 of my fav sci-fi trilogy of recent years. As a novel fan first, I was pleased to see it on screen with talented actors. Eager for book 2.
Love Me, Love My Voice - modern drama with an unusual couple (2 introverts) and dubbing fandom hyper fixation. A laid back relaxation drama, to de-stress with. Minimal plot, no conflict. Just sweet slow burn relationship building, singing & audio performances. Supportive friendships.
Here We Meet Again - modern drama that suffered from sloppy editing. I mean almost incoherent editing in a couple places, like when they are counting down the days until getting married and then.. It's not mentioned again? 🙃 But I very much enjoyed the couple's chemistry. I can't say it was objectively good but it sure was compulsively watchable for some reason.
Royal Rumors - Costume drama that was so aggressively mediocre that I don't have any real explanation for not dropping it. Except I find the lead actress unspeakably alluring. Blame my hormones.
Dropped
Back to the Brink - xanxia. Great concepts but the execution didn't work for me. I'm not a fan of slapstick and wacky humor within serious subject matter. (It's the reason kdramas can be very hit or miss with me.) The amount of humor layered into AJourney to Love is basically my limit for tragicomedies. (Note: I did go read the book and it was very entertaining - the tone was much more to my taste.)
My Lethal Man - modern. Embarassing english name, but they had me in the first half, not gonna lie. Then after her identity was exposed, I wasn't feeling it idk. Sometimes it's just not that complicated.
Destined/Chang Feng Du - costume drama. idk really why I dropped. I watched about a 3rd of it and then was distracted by other shiny objects. I plan to come back to this one in 2024 and finish.
Romance of the Twin Flower - costume drama; unholy abomination of a great novel. I hope somehow, someday, the culprits pay for their crime. Need I say more?
[Korean Dramas]
Perfect Revenge Marriage - a modern rebirth tale. For the 90% of it, I was high on the love of a drama that is just what you didn't know you wanted. The camp, the dedication, the scenery chewing, the glorious evil step mother. It was magical. And then the last 2 episodes I found underwhelming. I can't really explain it, the climax just didn't hit for me. But that's very much a personal taste issue and I'd definitely recommend to all drama lovers who enjoy the genre. Seriously, the performance of evil step mommy was a master class.
King the Land - modern workplace romance. I've heard complaints that there wasn't much of plot. But tbh that was fine with me, because some dramas are simply character pieces. This was all about the personal growth of the FL and ML. I ended up invested and rooting for the ML to become a decent guy who isn't a gross classist like his dad.
Destined with You - modern reincarnation drama. I blame my lingering kdrama good feelings about King the Land for convincing me to keep powering thru this one. Such a strong start but then half-way in I began to realize it simply wasn't going to go into the direction I wanted it to. I still have no idea what they intended to communicate with that love potion subplot.
Vincenzo - modern crime drama. I was late to the party on this one. But after I got around to watching the delightful Kinnporsche, this was rec'd to me as another drama that embraced the bigger than life unreality of Fantasy Mafia™ and provides a rollicking good time. Absolutely ridiculous and compulsively watchable. 10/10.
[American]
House of the Dragon - Awful people doing awful things to each other, as a 1st act before everything goes straight to hell. Plus freaky dragon-riding fantasy incest. What's there not to like?
Fall of the House of Usher (YES i DO watch every horror drama by Mike Flanagan thx) - Was it as good as the first 3..? No. Did I still breathlessly binge it in 2 days? Yes. Awful things happening to awful people, poetically. 👌 👌
