"Israel's war on Gaza hit the six-month mark on Sunday, a grim milestone. Over 33,300 Palestinians have been killed, including 14,000 children. Nearly 76,000 have been injured, and tens of thousands are missing. About 1.7 million people have been displaced, and the United Nations is warning that famine is imminent. Israel is also still vowing to invade Rafah, Gaza's southernmost city, which is sheltering more than half of Gaza's population." Democracy Now
"In Gaza, the six-month milestone has arrived, and with it a perceptible shift. [...] Perhaps it took the killing of seven World Central Kitchen aid workers for that shift to occur, perhaps it was cumulative, but what is hard to deny now is that Israel has gone rogue. [...] On the ground, it is clear that Israel has not only overreacted, but that it is cavalier, trigger-happy and unreliable in its intelligence and methods of war. Haaretz recently reported that the Israel Defense Forces have created “kill zones” in Gaza: anyone who crosses their invisible lines can be shot. An investigation by the Israeli-Palestinian magazine +972 and the Hebrew-language site Local Call this week revealed a ghastly mechanisation of war: the military is using AI systems to identify targets, and sources said that 15 or 20 dead civilians were permitted as collateral killings during airstrikes on those identified as low-ranking militants. [...] As Israel has levelled Gaza and tilted against the international community, it has undermined its own reputation, eroded faith in its military and political processes, and is exhausting the tolerance extended to it." The Guardian

Ibrahim reached out to me to help share his fundraiser. His last fundraiser did not work out due to Germany taking 43% in tax, and so he has started a new one with support from an organizer. He is a Palestinian medical student urgently raising money to evacuate he and his family. He has only made $265 out of his $40,000 goal so far, and the IOF’s planned invasion of Rafah is imminent! Please share and donate, and if you can’t donate, please still share!
Ibrahim’s Twitter/X account: @ibrahimhelp
From Ibrahim’s GFM:
Hi, my name is Gigi. I met Ibrahim on Instagram, like so many families devastated by this war/genocide. Gaza is destroyed and everyone there is desperate to escape to save their lives and the lives of their love ones. I just can’t imagine having to deal with that, we will never know even an ounce of what that feels like. When Ibrahim reached out to me and told me that Germany takes 50% of the Gofundme, that’s outrageous, of course I will help him and send 100% of all the money that is donated! These are some desperate times and these governments are taking advantage of these poor people. Greed over life. So this is me helping out my fellow brothers and sisters in Palestine. Please donate if you can, gofundme takes donations from $5 and up, from that $5, they take about .45 so it comes out to $4.55. That’s not even the price of a starbucks these days. 1 day no Starbucks to save a family and to save on calories! Win win in my books!
Ibrahim: Hello, I am Ibrahim. I live in northern Gaza. I live with my family consisting of 7 people, a father, a mother, 2 brothers, 3 sisters, and me. I study human medicine at Al-Azhar University in Gaza. Before October 7, my family had a house and a car. And now there is nothing. On October 12, my house was completely destroyed and all possessions and dreams were destroyed. My family and I want to complete our dreams and our lives by leaving Gaza and settling in Egypt. This costs a lot of money, as it costs the whole family 40000 Dollars, and we do not have that because money was lost during the bombing and war. I was also forced to flee from northern Gaza to southern Gaza, where there is suffering. We get water and food with great difficulty. I ask for your support to complete my dream of studying medicine and my family’s dream, hoping for a better life.
I have had the dream of studying medicine since childhood, but now that my dream has become more important and my goal of studying medicine has become an inevitable goal in relation to what I saw of the urgent need for doctors in my city of Gaza in this war in which we are still living until this moment. I write this letter after more than four months of bombing, destruction, famine and genocide to which we have been subjected. I took the first steps to achieving my dream after I finished my high school studies and obtained a 96.3% average. I registered at Al-Azhar University and specialized in medicine. I started studying in September 2022, and I only completed two weeks of my second year of study, almost on the path to my dreams before this war began and the occupation bombed and demolished my university. As I did in all the universities in the Gaza Strip, my dream vanished with it. The financial burden on my father has become unbearable, especially in light of the bad conditions caused by the war and the destruction of my home. It may take my father many years to rebuild it and put in everything he possibly owns. In the end, I aspire to be an exceptional doctor in my field, in order to help the people of my city of Gaza who suffer from various physical disabilities, such as amputation of limbs and others, and health problems resulting from war and fighting. Many, many medical personnel were killed while carrying out their duties in hospitals, clinics and medical facilities, which led to the collapse of the health system in the Gaza Strip, so I hope to continue my dream of studying this specialty as soon as possible.
Now I hope that my voice will be heard and that you will help me continue my university studies outside Gaza and build my dream and my family’s dream again, become a doctor, serve the world, and support my family. I hope you take my call to your hearts and spread hope to the world, and thank you to everyone who will help me achieve my dream.

every day I think about how Palestinians are surviving an Israeli-induced famine during a western-backed genocide and yet they still are sharing what little they have with the surviving cats and dogs and other domesticated animals left in Gaza I can only imagine how Palestine would flourish once the occupation is finally lifted. The care Palestinians have shown one another has been humbling.
I am forever thinking about an exchange during Al-Aqsa Flood in which one resistance fighter told another to take care of captives as the IOF was attempting to massacre them--captives, included-- because "[the occupation's] humanity is not ours." Even in the face of imminent death, which could have been more readily escaped by sacrificing captives, fighters chose a better and more thorough understanding of humanity because their intent was to force the colonial regime to end its occupation, to halt the genocide, not to simply kill or terrorize. The occupation has made atrocities routine, crimes against humanity a celebrated event, enshrining them in popular culture but Palestinians have taken enormous pain--and human losses-- to ensure that the humanity of Palestinian resistance is remembered and centered. May every resistance effort look to Palestinian solidarity for inspiration. May every radical be moved to show more militant kindness and a steadfast resolve in the face of cruelty to remember one's humanity, even the humanity of one's oppressors. Their humanity is not our humanity. From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free None of us is free til all of us are free Jin, jiyan, azadi

scripts for your senator and the president
Dear Senator____,
My name is [ your name] and I am one of your constituents in [your state]. I am writing to you about Palestine. Congress must work together to reinstate funding to UNRWA and stop sending weapons and funding to Israel's war machine. The people of Palestine are experiencing apocalyptic levels of imminent famine, disease, and mass death. The majority of American voters support a permanent ceasefire. Why is Congress continuing to further the destruction in Gaza?
We, your constituents, are begging you to take immediate action.
-your name
Dear Mr. President,
I am writing to you about Palestine. The United States government must reinstate funding to UNRWA and stop sending weapons and funding to Israel''s war machine. The people of Palestine are experiencing apocalyptic levels of imminent famine, disease, and mass death. The blood of 32,000 people is on your hands. The majority of American voters support a permanent ceasefire. The majority of Americans want to see our tax dollars go to supporting the citizens of this country, not funding Israel's genocide against the Palestinian people.
My vote in the 2024 presidential election will be predicated on the issue of Palestine, like the majority of people in my demographic.
We, your constituents, are begging you all to take immediate action.

Great Irish Famine historians issue St. Patrick's Day statement on Gaza
A group of historians is urging Irish Americans to use their influence to avert a Famine in Gaza as severe as the one faced by their Irish ancestors.
The Irish Famine of c. 1846-50 resonates through Irish and American history. During the Famine and in its aftermath, two million or more survivors emigrated to the United States, determined to make better lives for themselves. Many nursed a sense of the injustice that had brought starvation to their families and neighbours, and passed this to their children and to later generations.
[...]
As historians of the Irish Famine, we are conscious of the horrific effects of mass starvation, including the trauma it leaves in its wake. Alert to the threat of famine throughout the world in our own time, we are alarmed at its imminence in Gaza, and are strongly urging here that every possible step be taken to prevent it. As a descendant of Great Famine survivors himself, and with the capacity to influence the situation, President Biden carries a particular responsibility, especially as evidence of impending calamity emerges on a daily basis.
[...]
On this St. Patrick’s Day in an election year, we are appealing to the conscience of Irish America. We ask Irish Americans in their capacity as citizens, as members of cultural and benevolent societies, as political leaders, to use their influence to avert a Famine as severe as the one faced by their ancestors. To do this it is necessary that the United States ceases arming Israel; that it puts pressure on Israel to halt its military action and lifts its blockade on Gaza; that it refrains from using its veto at the UN security council in relation to Palestine; that it restores funding to UNRWA, the agency best-equipped to provide relief; that it acts as an honest broker to bring about an agreed political settlement between Israel and Palestine.

Israel’s Rafah Incursion Helps No One Except Netanyahu
Three days after it began, Israel’s operation in Rafah looks like a microcosm of its seven-month-long fight in Gaza: an attempt to check a tactical box rather than a strategic move with a definitive goal in the fight against Hamas.
As a limited incursion, it could be the least bad of Israels bad options, and even prove successful if it helps achieve a more favorable hostage deal or a cease-fire agreement. However, judging by the war’s conduct to date, it’s more likely that the operation will, in the end, backfire.

Gaza: Israel’s Imposed Starvation Deadly for Children
Devastating Accounts from Doctors, Parents; Reports of ‘Imminent’ Famine
Beirut, April 9, 2024 – Children in Gaza have been dying from starvation-related complications since the Israeli government began using starvation as a weapon of war, a war crime, Human Rights Watch said today. Doctors and families in Gaza described children, as well as pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, suffering from severe malnutrition and dehydration, and hospitals ill-equipped to treat them.
Concerned governments should impose targeted sanctions and suspend arms transfers to press the Israeli government to ensure access to humanitarian aid and basic services in Gaza, in accordance with Israel’s obligations under international law and the recent International Court of Justice order in South Africa’s genocide case.
“The Israeli government’s use of starvation as a weapon of war has proven deadly for children in Gaza,” said Omar Shakir, Israel and Palestine director at Human Rights Watch. “Israel needs to end this war crime, stop this suffering, and allow humanitarian aid to reach all of Gaza unhindered.”

Follow the Money: How Israel-Linked Billionaires Silenced US Campus Protests
May 23, 2024
Thousands of students face severe consequences for protesting Gaza violence. Alan Macleod investigates the powerful financial and ideological ties to Israel driving the harsh responses from America’s top universities.
"Why have overwhelmingly peaceful demonstrations against a foreign power’s actions been met with such a heavy-handed response? A MintPress News investigation finds that those same elite institutions have deep financial and ideological ties to the state of Israel, are funded by pro-Israel billionaires who have demanded they take action to crush the student movement, are partially funded by the Israeli government, and exist in a climate where Washington has made it clear that the protests should not be tolerated."
"The money has paid for research that directly benefits the Israeli military and helps them in their campaigns against the civilian population of Palestine. For example, one MIT project funded by Israel since 2022 is titled “Autonomous Robotic Swarms: Distributed Coordination and Perception.” According to Scientists Against Genocide, the research has helped the IDF carry out aerial drone bombings, surveil protestors, and drop tear gas on Palestinians. Israel is known to be developing flocks of small autonomous drone aircraft guided by artificial intelligence to locate targets, direct airstrikes and aid military advances.
Another project, “Planning and Sensing Algorithms for Underwater Persistent Monitoring,” has seen the Israeli Ministry of Defense give MIT $1.5 million to develop technology to help them police the Mediterranean Sea. Scientists Against Genocide have suggested that this has helped Israel enforce a naval blockade against Gaza, including targeting fishing ships to prevent Gazans from being able to feed themselves."
"The United Nations has warned that famine is imminent, and its high commissioner for human rights, Volker Türk, suggested Israel was carrying out a war crime by using starvation as a weapon."
"Despite the campus demonstrations being overwhelmingly peaceful, authorities have chosen to crack down harshly upon them, shredding the First Amendment in the process. Why have both universities and the government shown virtually zero tolerance towards those protesting against genocide? Firstly, because so many big-money university benefactors are themselves committed Zionists and have deep ties to the Israeli state.
This raises the question of whether these so-called charitable donations are so charitable in the first place. For one, America’s super-wealthy often receive tax write-offs for their contributions. Secondly, it gives them excessive power to control the directions of the institutions they are funding. Should wealthy individuals be able to dictate university policy for tens of thousands of people? Many would suggest that this is profoundly anti-democratic."

The widespread destruction Israel's military has inflicted on Gaza's farmland and agricultural infrastructure amounts to a "deliberate act of ecocide," according to a new investigation that uses satellite imagery to survey the extent of the damage.
Released Friday ahead of Palestine's Land Day, the analysis by the London-based research group Forensic Architecture (FA) shows that Israel's ground forces—including tanks and other military vehicles—have advanced over half of Gaza's farms and orchards, critical food sources that the besieged enclave's population has worked tirelessly to cultivate in the face of decades of occupation.
"Since 2014, Palestinian farmers along Gaza's perimeter have seen their crops sprayed by airborne herbicides and regularly bulldozed, and have themselves faced sniper fire by the Israeli occupation forces," FA said. "Along that engineered 'border,' sophisticated systems of fences and surveillance reinforce a military buffer zone."
Comparing satellite imagery from prior to Israel's invasion and the present, FA found that roughly 40% of Gaza land that was previously used for food production has been destroyed by Israeli forces. Nearly a third of Gaza's greenhouses have been demolished, according to the investigation.
"In total, Forensic Architecture has identified more than 2,000 agricultural sites, including farms and greenhouses, which have been destroyed since October 2023, often to be replaced with Israeli military earthworks," the group said. "This destruction has been most intense in the northern part of Gaza, where 90% of greenhouses were destroyed in the early stages of the ground invasion."
It is no surprise, then, that northern Gaza is currently experiencing famine conditions, with most of the population there at imminent risk of starvation as Israeli forces impede the flow of humanitarian assistance and continue their relentless bombing campaign.
Leading human rights organizations have accused the Israeli government of using starvation as a weapon of war in Gaza, pointing to the decimation of the territory's agricultural sector and attacks on aid convoys. The United Nations warned less than two months into Israel's assault that "in the north, livestock is facing starvation and the risk of death due to shortage of fodder and water."

With your activism and solidarity with Palestine, please extend those efforts and energy to the Sudan. Over 10,000 people have died in the Sudan due to the current war/conflict. A hunger crisis and food insecurity is plaguing the region. Famine seems imminent. People have been reduced to eating leaves to survive. Illness and Disease are spreading. Homes and Villages are being looted. Millions have had to abandon their homes. Millions of people have been displaced. Many of the same troubles (mass displacement, looting, hunger, food insecurity, limited humanitarian aid, etc.) affecting the Palestinian People, are also faced by the Sudanese People. Sudanese People deserve your attention, kindness, and solidarity too.

Israel’s war on Gaza: 'The creation of a humanitarian crisis is a tactic'
youtube
Marc Lamont Hill talks to journalist and writer Mariam Barghouti on the situation in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. More than 31,000 Palestinians have been killed since the start of Israel’s war on Gaza, and with no sign of an imminent ceasefire, the World Food Programme (WFP) has warned that the enclave is at risk of famine. Residents in the occupied West Bank have rallied in solidarity with Gaza despite facing intensified raids conducted by Israeli forces and increased attacks by settlers. What is the situation now in the occupied West Bank? And what future lies ahead for Palestine? This week on UpFront, Marc Lamont Hill talks to journalist and writer Mariam Barghouti, based in Ramallah in the occupied West Bank.
