im trying to figure out how to best do an onion run (get all of the onions as fast as possible on pikmin 4) and ive got it... Mostly figured out.

(VERY long post under the cut)

at minimum you need to go to 6 caves (yonny is going to be in whatever the 6th cave is you go to)

im not sure if you need bernard before going to hero's hideaway, though, i havent tested that.

and to get the ice onion, you need to go thru the cave on the stovetop so it sends you to the higher part of the counter. not to mention the sparklium needed to advance.

so, 1st day in the 1st area, i think youre only able to go to... 2 caves? everything else is on a ledge, or needs a bridge to get to it.

the next day, the priority is getting the yellow and blue onion, so upgrading only oatchi's carry strength is important. the blue onion takes 20 to carry and you can only have 40 pikmin out at that time if you get every flaric, and 30 ice pikmin are required to freeze the body of water next to the blue onion. so you'll have to do more caves til you get the 30 you need.

im not sure if its possible to hustle and do the remaining caves, getting both onions, AND doing the battle with olimar all in one day. its probably not impossible, though.

for the sake of an onion run, i dont think you should worry about 100%ing an area, as you can come back to them after you have all the onions.

so, assuming you do all the caves and get the blue and yellow onion within 2 days of the 1st area, by area 2, you will just need to go to either 1 or 2 caves, your choice, and fight against olimar, so only 1 day is spent here.

for serene shores, the only thing you need to worry about is fighting olimar, or another cave if you didnt already get yonny. maybe gather some treasure if you need more sparklium, so only 1 day here as well.

then, you need to do 1 night mission, since i think it prioritizes bernard's leafling to restore.

next, assuming you have the sparklium, you can go to hero's hideaway. this one is tricky, since you need 3 treasures to unlock the bunker. but also, its an onion run, so try to hustle to the kitchen area as fast as you can to get to the ice onion. it can probably be done in 1 day, but i was slow. you will have to go thru that cave though, like i said, to access the ice onion.

your next priority is to get the cards with the bunker code on them, and defeat olimar. this might take 2 days, but maybe a dandori master could do it in 1.

again, after dealing with olimar, you do another night mission to cure him, as it prioritizes him.

now, i havent mention oatchi upgrades, but i think the best thing to prioritize is the carry strength. because by the time you can do olimar's story, you want oatchi to be able to carry 100, so olimar can teach him moss' swallow carry. if you do olimar's story all at once (go at your own pace on it, since it doesnt effect the onion run) you will unlock the sage leaf's trials. you need oatchi's swallow carry ability to help you in these, and ESPECIALLY in the final trial. that ways you get both the white and purple onion in one go. (stay strong and do your best on challenge 7 though...)

finally, go to giant's hearth and you can probably rush to get the rock onion really fast in 1 day. it took me 2, but its not impossible. just use spicy spray and an electric shock on the sovereign bulblax guarding the onion and it becomes trivial. go do louie's challenge, as well as a cave since you need don bergman before you can advance.

and then, the final area! getting the pink onion isnt hard at all for the first day here. just, dont forget about the baldy long legs and get jumpscared like i did. bring some white pikmin to clear the way and get the pink onion as fast as you can.

with that, you are finally free :}

the beginning is 1 day no matter what, so

first area- 2-3 days

2nd- 1 day

3rd- 1 day

4th- ~2 days? maybe 1?

sage leaf trials- 1 day

5th- 1 day

6th- 1 day

and 2 night missions.

so in 12-14 days, you can get all the onions! i really messed up my current attempt, as it took me 20 days to get them all (i had to do the sage leaf trial twice, and also did a few extra night missions i didnt need to do.)

i'd like to try it again sometime and see how fast i can go thru the game :}
