Current Music Obsessions: July 1 - 16, 2018
Ho boy. We got a long list today! Here are the plentiful honorable mentions.
Lovelorn Dolls - Darker Days Your Screaming Silence - Time A Sound of Thunder - Tomyris Beyond God - When Lightning Strikes Sander van Doorn Love is Darkness feat. Carol Lee Aquaria - Luxaeterna Bionic Jive - Pump Kelly Clarkson - You Thought Wrong Past Undone - See You Tomorrow Sinistro - Vento Sul Jinjer - No Hoard of Value Lesbian Bed Death - Make Your Wish Bad Wolves - Better the Devil Lucifer - Dreamer Unexpect - Feasting Fools Witchcraft - Пепел feat. Artem Shkurin (Illidiance) Florence + the Machine - Big God Anaria - Requiem Stream of Passion - Embrace the Storm Parasite Inc. - Headfuck Rollercoaster Heonia - A World is Collapsing Lost Dreams - Fear Me Arsis - Forced to Rock Ashes You Leave - Song of the Lost Allamedah - Infamous Promethee - Endless Distorted Harmony - Time and Time Again
And for the surprisingly not-so-plentiful real obsessions.
1) Allamedah - Algema
Once again, we have a great find that was uploaded onto Spaceuntravel. This song has an oriental metal vibe to it that I absolutely love. The lead singer's voice is so gorgeous. I always love it when I fall in love with a male singer's voice. And he's pretty cute too, so that's an added bonus. His and the female singer's voices blend so beautifully on this track. I'm definitely am gonna check out more from these guys.
2) Kanga - Honey
Found this song through mine and Astrid's recent Name That Tune Challenge. It's such a great industrial/dark pop track and it gives me a bit of nostalgia for some reason. The synths are everything in this. I'm so checking out more from her.
3) Lovelorn Dolls - Happy Endings
This song really stood out to me on their new album. It's so pleasant compared to a lot of the other songs on it. It's literally about having a happy ending, which in turn makes me feel happy. Definitely a great jam.
4) Goldfrapp - Ocean feat. Dave Gahan
I really need to listen to more from them. Found this song through an ad on IG one day and decided to check it out and I'm so glad I did. It's such a chill track. The chorus has such a peaceful and ambient flow to it that it just puts you in a trance. I really hope they have more tracks like this, because I can't imagine them only having tracks like Alive.
5) Karmaflow: The Rock Opera Videogame - The Guide feat. Mark Jansen (Epica, MaYaN) and Lindsay Schoolcraft (Cradle of Filth)
Recently decided to listen to the Karmaflow soundtrack and wound up falling in love with this song. It's probably the heaviest song on the soundtrack. It's such a wild song and I love that it reflects the characters (The Guide and The Shaman) so well. This level was such a peaceful one to play in the game too.
6) Silent Stream of Godless Elegy - Synecku
Smutnice is such a wonderful doomy folk metal album and I'm so happy they released a video for a song on it, especially for one of my favorites off it. It's such a pretty track and the video is stunning. Another great song (and my favorite) from Smutnice is Maloverna.
7) Discordia - Letters from the Damned (Chapter V)
I've known about this band for a while, but haven't been able to dabble to much into their work since it's a bit hard to find any of their stuff online. They're a symphonic gothic metal band from California and I really dig their sound. Is it the most impressive stuff out there? No. But it's still wonderful. There's something about this track that is just so good a wonderful. I can't put a finger on it, but I just absolutely love this track.
8) Sinistro - Cravo Carne
I completely forgot they released a new album at the beginning of the year and this is one of my favorites off it. It's so sludgy and the chorus is so hypnotizing, especially the final one. I love the contrast between the soft and prettiness of the singer's voice and the rawness of the guitars. It's one of the reasons why I love this band so much and why they're so unique.
9) Elsiane - The Motive
They released this song as a single as a tribute to someone (I'm don't who exactly, but someone dear to someone in the band passed away). This song is absolutely gorgeous. It's so beautiful and pretty and is full of so much emotion. It's definitely a very empowering track that encourages you to keep going even when things are tough. Highly recommend this gorgeous ambient track.
10) Scardust - Queen of Insanity
They recently released a video for this track and it's really cool. I'm not too familiar with their work, but I haven't heard a single dud from them yet. They're such an interesting band with such a unique take on the progressive symphonic metal scene. There front woman has such a pretty voice, but also packs in some wild screams and holds one out for a hot second and is totally wild.
11) Stream of Passion - Deceiver
I got a limited/special edition copy of Embrace the Storm off eBay recently and obviously listened to this album a few times and wound up getting obsessed with this song in particular. The chorus is everything. I LOVE the harmonies so much and Marcella's ad libbing in the final chorus are so good. Highly recommend this track.
12) Save Your Poetry For Someone Who Gives A Shat (Dubstep, Chiptune, Chaotic Remix Cover)
I was able to log into my first ever YouTube account and reunited with a bunch of old tunes I loved from about 6 years ago and this was one of them. I have no clue what the original song is, but I remember being OBSESSED with this song all them years ago and I'm shocked to find myself still loving it today. Think post-hardcore/metalcore, but replace the instruments with distorted electronics and distorted vocals.
13) Sacrificed - Meet Your Fate
A random YT find that I fell in love with. Their front woman has such a pretty voice and is full of power. I'm usually am not into bands like them, but I really dig this track. The singer’s voice kinda reminds me a bit of Kobra’s from Kobra and the Lotus in a way. I'm definitely am gonna check out their new album.
And that’s it for the first half of July! I have a feeling the next half will be a long list since I let my watch later list get too long again, so be prepared.
