Current Music Obsessions: June 2019
So I have decided to move back to this blog for my “me” stuff. I got bored having the second blog, so we’re back to this one. BUT that other blog will stay up so you can continue viewing all the posts on there, and so that I can look back at previous CMO posts. Speaking of which, let’s get into the month of June starting with the honorable mentions!

Now for the real obsessions.
Stitched Up Heart - Lost feat. Sully Erna (Godsmack)
These guys have evolved and matured so much over the years. This compared to “Is This the Way You Get to Hell?” is significantly better. Production, writing, hell even Mixi’s voice has improved so much. Also it’s been forever since I last listened to Sully’s voice (haven’t listened to Godsmack in maybe 10 years). ANYWAYS, I really dig this track and just how powerful the riffs and Mixi’s voice are.
Cellar Darling - Freeze
This sounds like something straight out of Mandylion-era The Gathering and I live for it. The atmosphere and the power remind me so much of that album. And the fact that Anna kinda sings like Anneke fuels that vibe even more. I really want to listen to their new album since it seems very atmospheric so far.
Caelestia - Angel on Fire
This is their newest single and it’s a powerful one. It’s both very aggressive and very beautiful. These guys really know how to change tone in their songs without it seeming out of place, which just shows you how talented they are at writing. And Dimitra’s voice sounds so much stronger here than it was on Thanatopsis. Can’t wait to hear what else they have cooking up.
SKYND - Jim Jones
Randomly came across this song one day and added it to my watch later, but thanks to work I never had a good time to listen to it. Then one day a friend of mine shared a snippet of it on his IG story and I found it super interesting and had to listen to it. Holy fucking shit is this song amazing. It’s so cool and interesting, yet unnerving. I love it. I’m definitely gonna listen to more from them. And all their songs are based off of true crime/serial killers, which is super fun.

Banks - Gimme
This song goes in. It's full of so much energy and is just so much fun to jam to. I wish I had a good sound system to blast this on. It would make my jam sessions to it that much better.
Not Enough - Sinner
I love the atmospheric nature of this track. It's so mellow, but still packs a punch with those guitars and the metalcore style screams. And I just absolutely adore the cleans. The cleans are everything and so beautiful.
Emphasis - 70.1% Leviathans
I rekindled my love for this track out of nowhere because it was stuck in my head for a couple of days. It's such a beautiful track and is super proggy. And who can say no to saxophone solos in metal?
New Years Day - Come for Me
Ash's voice just keeps getting better and better. This track is so much fun and full of bombastic energy. The chorus is super catchy and that scream she lets out during the bridge is so epic. The bridge in general is epic.
Akphaezya - The Secret f Time
These guys are the closest we're ever going to get to having an avant-garde metal band as bizarre and epic like Unexpect. The genre shifts and the strange vocal lines are absolutely amazing. When it comes to this genre, the weirder the better in my opinion, and these guys are definitely weird.
Aly & AJ - Church
Who told them to make a song this iconic and amazing? I can't get over how epic and amazing this track is. I need to hurry up and listen to the Sanctuary EP, because they're icons now that need to be worshiped and praised.
And that's it for May. Maybe I'll be able to get June's out earlier than this and last month's lists, but I'm not getting my hopes up lol.

Lunar Path - Thin White Lines
This is the second song I've heard from these guys and I absolutely love it. This is some amazing gothic metal. It's so haunting and powerful. It does seem to float around the same note and tone, but the execution is what makes this song as epic and amazing as it is.
Saor - Bron
Randomly found this song one day and fell in love with it so quickly. It's an atmospheric doom metal track and it's absolutely gorgeous. The female guest singer is what really sells this song for me. Her voice adds this haunting element to it that I just adore.
Maruv - Siren Song
I was wondering why I never saw Ukraine on the Eurovision 2019 playlist and it's because they pulled out this year, and this was the banger that was supposed to represent them. Albania would've been moved to second place if this made it to the competition. It's such an amazing song. And don't get me started on both the live video and this music video. They are both perfection.
Seraphic - The Monster Within
Another random YouTube find that I became obsessed with. I always love finding bands where the front woman sings in a lower register. I'm definitely am gonna look more into these guys, because I really love their sound. Also, I am obsessed with the keys on this track. They're so good.
Angellore - Inertia
Got another atmospheric doom metal track for you guys that was another random YouTube find. It's so soft and so haunting. The male and female singers' voices blend so beautifully together. I really need to hear more from them, because this is some lovely stuff.
Roniit - Wide Awake
This is her latest single and I am in love. It's so cool seeing how much she's grown as a singer and artist since discovering her when Lost at Sea was released. Her music has become more ambient, but also more stronger and powerful at the same time since then. I know it sounds weird to say that something sounds both ambient and powerful, but this track really embodies that. I highly recommend you give this a listen.
And that's it for April. Now it's May. Hopefully I'll have more of a list for May, but I'm not making any promises since this job is taking a lot of my time away. But we'll have to wait and see (or better yet, hear) what great tunes are to follow.
