#if JC had been the one to find LSH he would not have hesitated to baby-trap WWX once he came back

lwj does not find a-yuan. maybe he didn't look hard enough, maybe he never left the cloud recesses. Point is, lwj doesn't find a-yuan. Jiang Cheng does
“Perhaps it would be better if we continued the hunt,” the Jiang sect disciple said smoothly, stepping in between Jiang Cheng and Lan Wangji. “The night is passing, and soon all the prey will be gone.”
Wei Wuxian’s respect for the junior’s bravery – and estimation of his stupidity – jumped up considerably. No one, and he meant no one, wanted to be in between those two when they were in a mood, and oh, were they in a mood right now…
Amazingly, Jiang Cheng huffed and turned his head aside. “Whatever,” he said, and while his voice sounded harsh and biting as usual, there was something almost indulgent in there. “You just want to spend time with the other juniors, don’t you?”
“Absolutely,” the junior said, his utter shamelessness entirely at odds with his polite tone. He grinned up at Jiang Cheng, which, again - brave. Good on you, kid, attempt the impossible! “Jin Ling, you in?”
“Not if Lan Jingyi’s going to be there!” Jin Ling said at once, glaring at the Lan sect disciple standing behind Lan Wangji.
“Who wants to spend time with you, anyway?” the Lan sect disciple – the eponymous Lan Jingyi, presumably – shot back, giving back glare for glare. “You’re just jealous that you weren’t there when we were dealing with the thing in Mo Village!”
“I was busy, it’s not fair -”
“Last one to come with me misses out -” the Jiang disciple sang out, already heading away.
“Wait for me! Jiang Yuzhi! Damnit!”
Wei Wuxian did his best not to laugh as all three of the boys tumbled away, both Jin Ling and Lan Jingyi rushing to keep up with – Jiang Yuzhi, apparently?
“Your son continues to grow well,” Lan Wangji told Jiang Cheng, sounding almost begrudgingly approving about it, and Wei Wuxian was just nodding along when – wait. What?!
“Son?!” he squeaked. “He’s your son?!”
No way. Just – no way. The kid was too old! He was clearly older than Jin Ling, and Jiang Cheng had definitely not had a kid before shijie did – no way, no how, wouldn’t happen. He was probably still a virgin by the time Wei Wuxian had died!
(In fact, if he wasn’t still a virgin, Wei Wuxian was going to need to have serious words with someone! And if he was, then double the words! Only the right type of person gets to be with Wei Wuxian’s shidi!)
Jiang Cheng turned his head to stare at him. “Hanguang-jun,” he said, and there was some meaning in his voice that Wei Wuxian didn’t quite understand.
“The Cloud Recesses,” Lan Wangji responded obscurely. “In light of past events.”
Jiang Cheng flinched and shot him a glare. It was surprisingly similar to the interaction between Jiang Yuzhi and Lan Jingyi, come to think of it. “Fine,” he said, looking aggravated. “But we’re coming with you until you get to the bottom of it, you hear me?”
Lan Wangji nodded.
Jiang Cheng turned his eyes back to Wei Wuxian, who was starting to edge towards Lil’ Apple in hopes of an escape. “How sure are you..?”
“Definite.”
“It had better be; I don’t want any more mistakes. All right, let’s grab him and go. We can talk on the way.”
“Hey, hey, hey,” Wei Wuxian said. “Who’s grabbing? No grabbing. I don’t have to go anywhere with you. Either of you!”
“Wow,” Jiang Cheng said, his voice drier than dust. “I’ve known that Wei Wuxian has returned to life for less than an incense stick and I already want to stab him again. Maybe you’re right about taking him to the Cloud Recesses.”
Lan Wangji ignored him. “Wei Ying, you will be safe there.”
“Uh,” Wei Wuxian said. “I don’t know who you think I am, but –”
“I cannot believe you said that to Jin Ling,” Jiang Cheng interrupted, scowling all over again. “Given the circumstances -!”
“I didn’t mean to!” Wei Wuxian squawked. “I had no idea what he looked like, okay, I’ve been dead for years and years –”
He stopped.
Jiang Cheng was smirking. Lan Wangji was rolling his eyes.
He was an idiot.
“You’re right, it’s him,” Jiang Cheng told Lan Wangji, who nodded. “At some point you’ll have to tell me how you guessed it before I did.”
Well, at least Jiang Cheng didn’t seem as angry with him anymore…?
Something must have happened to change that, since given Wei Wuxian’s knowledge of his shidi’s character it wasn’t going to be something so simple as mere time.
“Since when do you have a kid, anyway?” he demanded, putting his hands on his hips. “Especially one that’s older than Jin Ling?”
“You keep your eyes off of A-Yuan,” Jiang Cheng said, pointing a finger at him. “Finders keepers, you hear me?”
What the fuck was that supposed to mean? Had Jiang Cheng just picked up the first baby he’d found on the side of the street or something –
Wait.
Wait.
“That’s A-Yuan?!” he shrieked.
“Perhaps we should take this conversation elsewhere,” Lan Wangji suggested, folding his hands behind his back. “Quickly.”
“Yeah,” Jiang Cheng said, abruptly distracted for some reason. “Quickly is right. Hopefully before the juniors blow something up again –”
A faint booming noise could be heard.
“Too late, I think,” Wei Wuxian said, starting to grin.
He couldn’t wait to find out what type of troublemaker A-Yuan had grown up into - under Jiang Cheng’s probably questionable parenting, no less.
Either way, it was good to be back.
