(just Nancy being a drama queen - she deserves it as a treat - as she lightly bullies Eddie in front of his little sheepies)
Ever since the Byers' moved back from California, Eddie has been locked in a battle with Will to prove who is the better DM. And instead of just running Hellfire and the original Party separately, the two are now fighting a never-ending Olympic-level series of small campaigns and one-shots to earn the respect of Mike, Dustin, Lucas and Erica.
Which means Nancy has to put up with endless yelling, bickering and all round nerd-talk coming from the basement 24/7.
She is the real victim here.
Not only has she had to hear such a raucous every afternoon this week, ever since Dustin came up with the oh-so-brilliant idea of setting an actual competition that is somehow being judged and assessed alongside playing.
How this is supposed to work, Nancy has no clue...
Not only that, but she has had to endure a Sports Centre-like play-by-play over each subsequent breakfast from Mike because yeah, unfortunately, she knows the in and outs of DND.
And now this nonsense is eating into her weekend too.
As she paces the kitchen (again), stopping to slump down at the kitchen table (again) she wishes she could conjure a magic potion to wipe the memory of all Dungeons & Dragons-related crap from the minds of everyone around her and herself.
Because Eddie has everyone in this kitchen running two damn hours late for a dinner date.
Steve sighs loudly from his position at the kitchen bench and checks his watch (again). He yawns (again).
"Consider our double-date cancelled, Dingus," Robin drawls, propping her chin on her hand as she looks through the latest issue of Cosmopolitan, turning a page at a glacial pace.
He stands up, scraping the stool on the tiles as he goes and walks over to check his hair in the reflection of the toaster – which he has done each and every time the words 'double date' have been uttered since he arrived.
Nancy tsks' and rolls her eyes while Robin whispers a judgemental, "Stop, Steve".
"I'll go ask," Steve suggests, practically puffing out his chest as he heads for the basement door.
Nancy does everything in her power not to tell Robin to stop picking at her nail polish and instead opts to stare at a scratch on the kitchen table while they wait.
There is a series of indecipherable sounds, then some laughter, Dustin shouting, "Go away!", followed promptly by footsteps up the staircase.
Steve re-emerges from the basement rubbing at his flushed neck.
"He – They... aren't ready... yet," he stutters.
Robin looks up from her magazine, rolls her eyes and groans at the state of her best friend.
"What!" he shrieks. "I asked if they were almost finished and Eddie answered me in his Dungeon Master voice!"
He clears his throat and slips back onto the stool.
"Oh please!" Robin huffs, flicking a page of her magazine as violently as possible.
"Its fine," he insists. "I'm fine... Absolutely fine and dandy."
He begins chewing at his nails, ravenous and wide-eyed.
"That's it!" Nancy declares, leaping up from the kitchen table to charge towards the entry to the basement.
She makes sure to step as harshly as possible, a go-to tactic she typically uses to scare Mike into listening when he is hauled up in the basement doing god knows what.
"Eddie!" she calls as she reaches the bottom step. She folds her arms with a loud huff.
But it doesn't work, no one so much as looks away from Lucas, who is staring at the board in deep concentration as he harshly shakes dice in his hands.
"Eddie!" she repeats.
Again nothing. Well, nothing except Dustin waving his hand lazily behind his back, presumably in an attempt to shoo her away without tearing his eyes away from Lucas. She clears her throat and sucks in a breath. Eddie has left her no choice.
Time to embarrass the dork. Majorly.
"I'm sure everyone in this room would be very interested to hear that you are unable to chip in for the customary post-session pizzas, a staple of Saturday night, regardless of whatever DND-marathon nonsense is going on."
She only has to wait a fraction of a second after her diatribe for everyone to look at her and then back to Eddie. She wishes she was at a better angle to witness their betrayed faces.
Lucas stops shaking his dice and sets them gently on the table.
"You don't have money for pizza?" Dustin offers, almost making up for how insufferable he has been all week.
Erica furiously scribbles away in her notebook, presumably deducting points for Eddie's lack of pizza-money status. Mike meanwhile, gives Will a knowing look.
Eddie sinks down in his throne, an old recliner with Holly's outgrown sparkling pink princess cape draped over it.
"But Steve's a gentleman and pays for my dinner," Eddie defends, voice high and childish. His cheeks flush red as he attempts to hide behind a lock of hair.
Nancy leans forward, balancing on her tiptoes and smirks, "Well you better come upstairs, My Prince."
She bats her lashes and uses air quotations at the mention of Steve's preferred pet name. And sure enough, the kids erupt into laughter.
Eddie snaps his game screen shut and scrambles to gather up his manual, ignoring the sudden transformation into a chorus of booing.
He gestures to the board hurriedly.
"Lady Applejack, I entrust you with recording where everyone's place is."
"What!" Lucas yells, incredulous as his sister pokes her tongue out in victory.
Dustin lunges for his backpack, grumbling something about the Battle of the DMs competition parameters.
Nancy harshly motions for Eddie, eager to prevent him from getting caught up in whatever the kids are now griping about. She doesn't have to do much else anyway, because Will is shoving Eddie aside to squeeze into the makeshift DM throne the moment he looks like he is vacating his seat.
Nancy taps her foot with dramatic impatience (heaped atop actual impatience, of course) as Eddie makes his way to the staircase. He attempts to step carefully, shielding himself from further insults and booing with his manual. Ever the awkward one, he runs straight into her, leaving no choice but to lower his weaponised books.
Nancy purses her lips, seething as she thinks over all the other intel she has on one Edward Munson that she might just have to mention in a not-at-all inside voice.
But he smirks, exposing his dimples as he leans too close to taunt, "That isn't even Steve's favourite nickname for me."
"What is it then?" she shoots back, blocking the stairs as Eddie's face falls straight back into the fiery depths of embarrassment.
He looks at his boots, pouting like a sullen Charlie Brown.
"Kitten," he mumbles.

Ok so RE the Eddie book that’s coming out. Not into it, won’t read it, haven’t purposefully looked into but I keep seeing other people talk about it. If I understand the basic premise correctly, some music lady sees a high school band and is trying to get them to move to LA to do music stuff? And there’s flirting? Eddie is supposed to be 17 or 18 and there’s an adult woman flirting with a high schooler?!
He’s a super talented guitarist…like dude learned master of puppets by ear in a couple weeks… but some random music producer hears a high school band in bumfuck nowhere and is into it? Yeah sure makes sense yep 🙃
This book has majorly weird vibes and also seems like it’s gonna be like a super bummer. Ugh. Just needed to get this rant out to someone!
see the thing about the books is that i consider them half-canon. anything we don't see directly or implied on screen isn't truly canon for stranger things, and while I do take somethings as little supplemental bits of canon (scoops troop playing DnD to cheer up Erica, Robin's past friendship with Barb, maybe even Joyce being mad at Steve for the demodog in the fridge...) as a whole I don't care about them lol. like they had Lucas, for whatever reason, worried that simply playing basketball would turn Steve back into a jerk (despite Steve being on the basketball team when he helped the party in s2??)
So with the Eddie book coming out...... I simply do not care. There are so many ways the book could have gone, and I just.... Think it's not worth the effort to think about i guess. why are they giving us creepy older lady hitting on a highschooler? idk who knows. To show he isn't a cringefail loserboy? Why are they giving us an Eddie book at all?
I do think it's VERY funny that they're trying to push him and some random girl we haven't seen before as his "Platonic Soulmate" instead of giving us Stobin content (unless it's the singular girl in that one hellfire group photo in which case I will admit I have also made her Eddie's queer bestie in RaSEPSM but not to the level of our girlies) because they want to capitalize on that dynamic without letting us see Robin or Steve again.... :(

miscellaneous stranger things thoughts
(basically just me live tweeting)
(I’m gonna try to put in a page break)
— dr. owens is such a solid dude and so much better than dr. brenner and the narrative barely gives him any credit. and the narrative doesn’t criticize Brenner nearly enough
— natalia dyer is a super good actor
— lumax is very cute, we also need more Lucas regardless
— I also love Antov
— I don’t like a lot of the narrative choices so far but the editing is very well done
— my least favorite straight pairing trope is when the couple breaks up and then multiple seasons later, instead of moving on, one or both “still likes the other” for no conceivable reason —characterization wise or narratively wise — purely bc of the writers’ heteronormativity and amatonormativity /g
— the Russia team’s narrative is the only one that doesn’t make zero sense so that’s a relief
— “my life started the day I met you” did it really Mike ??? really ???? THAT’S how you wanna say you care about her ???
— that whole speech,,, like— the whole premise of this season is basically “it takes a team!” but they didn’t have Will or Jonathan talk to her at all —her own brothers (yet they felt the need to keep Will in frame ??) I liked having a speech in premise but the way they wrote it was bad
— Ah yes, Mike idolizing El definitely isn’t shitty at all and is totally healthy 🙂 ! /s
— I don’t really think the writers knew the gravity of a white jock teenage boy nearly killing a young Black boy,,,,, (I’m white btw, it still just left me like 😬)
— idk if this was a writing problem or an editing one but having the bats attack Eddie seemingly right before they fall makes Eddie getting killed (while the rest of the fruity four don’t even get hurt) feel petty and pointless
— hopper with the dnd-ass sword was cool
— this sound engineer/editor is very good at their job
— I didn’t see Robin/Nancy much before but now I do 💅
— the whole “running away” thing is so shitty and genuinely harmful
— don’t you love how only the alt kids got hurt *deep inhale*
— Vicky is cute but she seems just like Robin ?? (idk if this is a flaw in writing until I know more abt her tho just seems on the nose)
— Steve is such a good mom
— the acting of Dustin and Mr. Munson was really well done
— I do wish we saw more mourning of Eddie
— The way they used Eddie’s character was pretty bad
— why are they throwing Nancy/Jonathan down the drain with this Steve stuff when they were built up so well ?
— I get having Will still be connected to One but that’s literally all they’re using him for now. wtf
— El and Hopper !!!!!!!! <33333
— CANT THEY SHOW WILL BEING HAPPY
ok, final thoughts:
I thought vol. 1 was incredibly well done and probably my favorite season off the bat (despite a few things like Nancy/Steve being shoved in, etc) but vol. 2…. I think many things were well done but I mostly had problems with characterization issues and how they balanced the narrative on the characters. overall pretty disappointing and completely non deserving of all the build up :(

Hope this is okay to ask but I was wondering what your thoughts are on the way Tyrion is treated by some of the fandom, especially Cersei stans? I feel he is held to a different standard to other male characters and as someone with an invisible disibility irl it makes me a bit uncomfortable. I’ve seen many “Lannister stans” who either hate him or want to ignore he exists.
sure it’s okay to ask don’t worry ;)
that said: when it comes to tyrion’s fandom treatment especially on tumblr there’s like a whole bunch of like... WE’RE ABLEIST BUT MASKING IT BEHIND FAKE WOKE ARGUMENTS crap going on because not counting the fact that show!tyrion has been what he was since S5 bc dnd can’t obviously write him and stopped giving peter decent material after then and it shows, but like... show!tyrion being nowhere near as complex as the book version is a problem that 99% of the show characters had so I don’t think it’s like a valid argument:
the premise is that tyrion is outside like TUMBLR and the likes circles a clear fan favorite when it comes to the general audience if not the fan favorite - like there’s more tyrion merch than idk jon snow merch and maybe maybe he was 50/50 with dany but like... I think that if we did a general poll tyrion would come out as the most liked character, which... I mean fair tyrion is an a+ character and he’s extremely relatable on a whole shitload of levels and let me tell you if a disabled character is for once the main fan favorite I won’t complain:
problem is beyond the fact that he’s disabled he’s... about everything tumblr hates in the sense that a) man, b) (presumably) straight man who has a lot of sex to deal with his issues, c) his issues are not exactly pleasant to deal with, d) not Standard Attractive, e) basically his one trump card is outsmarting people so it’s really easy to attach the whole AH MANIPULATING SCHEMING ASSHOLE argument to him, f) an abuse victim from at least his father and cersei but we all know men can’t be abused on this website *rolleyes* plus he hates the shit out of cers/ei which like.. is apparently the cardinal sin and the key to being labeled a misogynist always, which automatically means that when it comes to tumblr asoiaf fandom nine times on ten people will ignore the fact that his disability is a reason people discriminate him and that the treatment he received because of it gave him TRAUMA and start going like AH BUT HE’S A MAN AH BUT HE’S RICH which... doesn’t mean he can’t be traumatized even if he has male and money privilege;
for what it’s worth anyway bc as stated okay being a lannister did mean that he had a better upbringing/situation economically than a commoner with dwarfism but that doesn’t make his abuse any less damaging, but people on here just... don’t seem to get it;
but yeah like the point is that male chars on tumblr are already held at different standards than female ones (again theon gets more shit than cersei ever had for doing a lot less horrid stuff) but tyrion as... the mega fan favorite especially in within the male fanbase (reddit/w-org and the likes) is held to an extra standard in the sense that if the dudebro faction likes him then he’s BAD NEWS, which means that the fact that he’s disabled and that it affects his life is thoroughly ignored because they have to cry about how he has male privilege over c. and so she can’t abuse him (which... lmao the day I read that shit in S2 I was so out, but whatever);
anyway thing is: ‘lannister stans’ in my experience is a thing that like... is weird in this fandom because actually I never met a supposed lannister stan who likes all of them or who doesn’t ignore some exist, like.. usually most lannister stans who pretend tyrion doesn’t exist are either c. stans or tywin stans or both and don’t get me started on how this fandom has a weirdass tywin worship thing going on for which they think tyrion killing him is an unforgivable crime when it was basically what that asshole deserved and the narrative is having tyrion go in the downward spiral for shae not for tywin. c. stans usually say they also stan jaime but like... they stan whichever version of jaime they think exist that is compatible for a book ending that has the murder suicide thing happening that doesn’t exist in the books and they ignore tyrion exists same as their fave, but then again here we fall back in the pit where everything c. specifically does is seen as either fight against the patriarchy or feminist rebellion or trauma justification on account of c. being a woman and if a man does it it’s horrid or if she does it to a man then it doesn’t matter, so like... it’s a lost cause;
anyway like if someone say they’re a lannister stan and ignore tyrion when whether they like it or not tyrion is the only lannister in the main five povs (which i’d like to remind everyone are jon dany tyrion arya and bran regardless of whoever is everyone’s fave) and the one that has most narrative weight then like... just say you like c. or tywin and go;
tldr: while I think that the show did tyrion a lot of dirt in order to make him more... idk cleaned up when the book character is good as it is, tumblr fandom is swimming deep in ableism and denying that men can be abused and affected by that when it comes to tyrion’s treatment, never mind in the neverending absolutely shallow argument that’s everywhere in asoiaf fandom which is that no one outside specific group of people has understood that one of the key messages of these books is ‘how you look outside doesn’t mean shit about your personality and people who aren’t standard attractive are people with needs and personality who also deserve love and have a lot to give and will meet someone who’ll give it to them’, because the race is basically shipping beautiful ppl together even if it makes sense and negating at all turns that brienne/arya/tyrion/sandor/anyone else who’s not standard attractive are like... viable romantic partners on an even level with whoever so there’s that too, but like I think that on tumblr it shows that ppl are extremely hypocritical when it comes to tyrion and that it shows that their wokeness stops at the surface bc if you read those books and miss The Fucking Point when it comes to tyrion’s disability... text comprehension where have you gone ;)
also when it comes from c. stans** I just sigh and roll my eyes but then again c. stans generally think c. is the only person in these books with justified issues and trauma reaction and downplay not only how she abuses others but also the effects on the ppl she abuses whether they’re men or women so like... they don’t even admit how she is with jaime do we think they’d admit it for tyrion? doubt that.
**before everyone else jumps on me: with c. stans I mean the vocal side of c. standom where almost everyone is like that and from whom I never saw once an acknowledgment that she actually did abuse him (or anyone kllkjkgdj), not whichever c. stan around who likes her because she’s terrible/recognizes that she’s bad etc, I mean no ill will, if you didn’t feel called out reading it it wasn’t about you, peace and love.

for the fr question thingy!! tidelord, stormcatcher, snapper and coatl? :o
the ask meme in question
awh heck yeah ty for givin me the excuse to do a tiny lore dump nonny! i hope you're having an awesome day <3
Tidelord - Does the element of your dragons’ eyes matter to you in lore?
not too much, honestly! in my heart all my dragons are Arcanites of one kind or another, regardless of how they ended up here, so they all sorta get the same treatment of "you get lore based on your vibes and if they happen to match the vibes of your element that's just a happy coincidence" I will sometimes play off of different eye types, however! I don't pay too much attention to keeping it consistent, but special eye types will sometimes get some lore surrounding it. the basic rule for my lore is pretty much just. appearance doesn't matter unless I say it does <3 in which case it's usually less about element and more about eye type, and even then it tends to be treated as a Personal Lore Thing rather than a broad statement about anyone with that eye type in my lair!
Stormcatcher - What catches your eye in other people’s lore?
this is a hard one, I won't lie :p there's a lot of different things! I think what catches my eye the most consistently though is when I see someone who's so clearly just having fun with it! Even if it's inconsistent, objectively Silly, wildly outside the realm of possibility in fr canon, etc etc, if they're having fun with it that's the most eye-catching thing to me personally!
more specifically on themes nd whatnot though... I usually tend to gravitate towards lore that doesn't take itself too seriously? like no. super heavy social commentary or anythin I mean, something that I can just read on a whim and go like "oh heck yeah that's such a cool premise" sorta thing instead of having to be in the right headspace to read the content in the first place, yknow? which to be clear, this is just personal preference of what I like to read, so it doesn't mean I think that kind of lore is bad!! it's just not something I can read all the time if that makes sense :oc
I also really love lore where people have written out lil stories in their dragon bios or forum post or smthn ^^ I really enjoy reading them over listed notes, so they tend to catch my eye quicker! the amount of times I have gotten excited only to be teased with a lorem ipsum is too many :p
Snapper - Is there a breed you like the hatchlings better than the adults, and if so what breed?
nocturnes! I've never been a huge fan of either adult pose of nocs, since the genes I like most tend to get all.. scrungly? on them? for lack of a better descriptor? but the hatchlings,,, peak shapes, love those lil guys and it delights me to no end when ppl share their permababy nocs!!
Coatl - Which dragon breed has your favorite lore, regardless of how much you like/dislike how they look?
take this with a grain of salt bc I don't remember 90% of site lore and if I happen to follow it it's probably a coincidence but the lore for pearlcatchers has always vaguely stuck with me as cool! I love the social dynamics surrounding their pearls™ nd I feel like what I remember vibes s o well with how the female pearlie pose reads to me! they're just... mmgh vibes, feel like a mildly problematic dnd character I would make or smthn idk I just think they're Neat

Star vs. Character designs and premise is really cool but the fandom! and the story telling is kind of lackluster and i have no one to discuss that with for those very reasons.
I was only in the show for Eclipsa's husband and now her entire family is cute but everything else kinda went no where. Like they're tying up loose ends before they need to or starting new character arcs way to late so now all the eps feel boring even when they drop lore or having cool battle sequences. I love all the character interactions but it's turning into what I imagine dnd is.
Im not really invested in the maincharacters even though I should be and I feel bad but at the same time i know thats cause I dont like star. I think the show wouldve worked out better having marco as the main charcter or having them be co-stars (and you cant really say they are co stars because the show is named after star and idk other reasons) Because if Marco was the main character we would be that more invested in seeing the mysterious life of the butterfly family and all the boring storylines would make sense cause we're just taking a peak into star's life. And you could even dedicate seasons to each character. Like one for mewman and then Marco assisting star in helping with eclipsa and tgen marco having to come back to earth and take care of hissiter while also discovering himself again. Like stars lets solve rascism thing on mewni is going no where i don't card about her and toms relationship cause you know the creators have it just to pull us along for the endgame ship.(which is obvious but I wont say it) If Marco was the lead it would make sense to ship him with everyone and then we could ship him with tom with some hope they might be end game but now Im just starting to sound like a tomco fangirl.
