movies i like: first of all i am a huge ghibli fan 😭 anyways the tinker bell movies, ratatouille, wall-e, the muppet movies, spiderman: into/across the spiderverse, brave, random 90s movies that I watch with my parents

books i like: psych im not listing all those, there’s way too many 😭 (kotlc and the scythe series are my favs though)

games i like: undertale/deltarune/undertale yellow (y’all should know by now how obsessed i am with that franchise), stardew valley, animal crossing, zelda botw (i have not played totk yet :( im hoping to soon though!), ddlc

special interests: psychology (especially neurodivergencies, specifically autism and tic disorders), writing, undertale/deltarune/uty, gravity falls, arcane, tadc, bee and puppycat, some oddly specific medical stuff (mostly things like autoimmune disorders and the like, i just hate gore and tbh the cardiovascular system in general), kotlc, bluey, coding, embroidery, linguistics/etymology for some reason???

i do a lot of writing, my first novel is actually fully drafted and i’m hoping to have it edited within the next 2 years so i can publish :) other than that main one + my other main-ish novel i have about ten million wips 😭

as mentioned above i am also an artist, i mostly just draw though i also embroider and dabble in clay and watercolor. my art blog is linked above so you can go check that out :) i also do photography! it’s not a very serious hobby but i enjoy it, photography acc is also linked above

Salt, Spice, and Everything Controversial || Open!

[Inspired by @sapientura's post, Sonia deserved better. In literally every fathomable way. She deserved to be more than just Rauru's wife and to be killed by Ganondorf for her Secret Stone (which btw, if Zelda or anyone in this game used their brain, shouldn't have happened because COME ON). They give us literally ZERO information about her outside of she's the Hylian woman Rauru married and she has the power to mess with time. And I guess it shouldn't be a surprise since NOTHING about the Zonai or the ancient past really gets explored, but like...who was she? Why was she chosen either by Rauru himself or in an arranged sort of marriage way to marry this stranger from the sky? How is she related to Zelda if she and Rauru seemingly never had children (another plot hole!)? Does she have any relation to Hylia? The Golden Goddesses if they're still even relevant or exist? Basically, why ANYTHING that speaks to why we should care about her outside of "she married Rauru" and "Ganondorf murders her" would have helped. And I get they were trying to play this whole "she's the mother figure Zelda lost!" sort of thing but that's...not enough and very predictable.

I won't say I HATE this, necessarily, but I don't really care for the idea that each Sage element is locked into each of the races, especially since now the Sage of Spirit is apparently reserved to...I guess the Zonai when, previously, the title was my girl, Nabooru's. And MAYBE it's not as locked in as it appears with that in mind, but considering the Sages that help Rauru are of the same races as those that help Link and the elements line up and they make it almost sound like an ancestor/descendent thing...it kind of seems like this might be the case. And maybe it's because I've had my own ideas about sagehood for a long time and other games that had sages didn't seem to have it so cut and dry like that, but the idea of just using bloodlines just isn't interesting in really any area, and this is no exception. And TotK is not only utilizing bloodlines in this case but also the "sage of X is bound to people in Y race" (except for the Sage of Spirit, apparently idek), so it's a double whammy of that's boring. And I guess WW did it to an extent (I think? idk maybe it wasn't explicitly bloodline in that case either idr), but a Zora was the OG EARTH sage and a Kokiri was the OG WIND sage. Not water and forest, respectively. So idk it's honestly a small nitpick and I'm just annoyed at all the shit that's become "YOU'RE MY DESCENDANT SO THIS IS YOUR DESTINY/BIRTHRIGHT AAAAH" crap that's been going on. *side eyes the Gerudo chief shit being a bloodline*.]

SHIP RAMBLING TIME

It’s overdue that I talk about this ship and my predictions for it’s future in canon (and yes, I think there is one!) What a better time than self indulgent week?

DISCLAIMER: This isn’t meant to step on anyone else’s headcanons or ANYTHING of the sort. This is just an analysis of the tiny hints we’ve seen from jojo so far in regards to this ship. Y’all can headcanon whatever you want!!

What we’ve seen sprinkled throughout the games themselves is interesting. In alttp itself, there’s not really much to go off of ship wise— but Legend has MANY games. And those games confirm a lot later— let’s go in my personal timeline’s order

Oox: The cheek kiss ending. This is about as BLATENT as it gets ship wise. Legend literally s w o o ns after Fable kisses him on the cheek, and the Maku tree gets jealous. An interesting thing to note is that Jojo actually depicted this scene in the page of doodles where Sun’s final design appeared (idek what it’s called in the archive list, sorry!). It’s way in the corner but it’s there!

LA: Yep, even here. There’s a good amount of evidence supporting the idea that Legend influenced Koholint A LOT and Marin’s appearance is nothing to sneeze at. Especially her similarities with Fable— It’s most likely that Legend literally dreamed up his ideal girl— hence why Marin being similar to Fable is incredibly suspicious.

ALBW: OHHOHO BOY. The Rumor guy!!! He’s creepy, but he gives a lot of insight on Legend and Fable’s relationship here. Fable is supposedly caught sneaking off to meet someone at night— as well as stopping to just… stare at a painting of one of the previous incarnations cuddling “with such admiration that had never been seen before in the princess.” For 10 minutes straight!!! That’s a while to stare at one painting Fable, jeez!

LU: So, in an interview with Jojo, she previously stated that most of the Links are going to have varying romantic relationships with their Zeldas— she gave a list of exceptions for that: Twi and Time. The little shipper in my happen to notice that Legend is very purposefully left out, meaning he probably will end up getting closer with Fable as the comics go on.

So, what are my predictions?

Jojo is gonna need a lot of time and care put into her character to get her right. You can’t just throw in a second love Interest after a main character has already lost one and expect the fandom to be okay with it. Legend needs *time* to get over what happened with Marin first— and even more time to get closer with Fable. What I find interesting is that Jojo specifies that despite going on so many adventures, Legend is particularly affected by the amount of times the kingdom is put in peril. But you wanna know who would be…? *Fable*. This is probably going to be her ongoing issue throughout the whole comic imo. We could either see a more stern Fable who shares a lot of similarities with Legend in that she’s bad at taking care of her emotional problems, giving them a chance to bond. OR we could see a Fable that’s more like canon—- bubbly and sweet, someone who can make Legend forget about his problems

Either way, Legend will definitely have to learn to deal with the fact that Fable and Marin are kind of similar sometimes— and learn to overlook that and love Fable as her own person. This is KEY, he will need to eventually stop drawing negative comparisons between the two in his head in order for this relationship to work. He can still be reminded of Marin by her, but in a way that he accepts it is fine and okay to see that— He still loved Marin and still loves Fable, and no romance is lesser than the other. And he’s not disrespecting Marin’s memory by loving someone else either. He’s just moving on from his past, and that’s the healthy thing to do.

The first character I first fell in love with: Probably Link. Basic, I know. But I was six, he wore green (most of the time), and he was presh. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Probably Ganondorf because...you know, villain. But, at least if you pretend Demise’s curse wasn’t a thing, I liked the complication they tried to give him. The sort of “trying to do the right thing and help his people but becoming desperate” as well as the “absolute power corrupts absolutely” thing is done, I feel, well with him. His story is really tragic and he could be a really complicated and interesting character. Plus I’ve probably just delved into ideas about him that make me like him more, too so. The character everyone else loves that I don’t: Sidon or Urbosa (which idk how popular Urbosa is any more but she felt overrated back when I was in the rpc). The hype around Sidon fell super flat for me. Like this man was literally getting on the news for the thirst he was getting and then it was like...they did really nothing with him (same with the other present-day Champions). His backstory was kind of sad which made it nice to see that he grew up to be so endearing, but he didn’t live up to the hype for me. I’ve talked about Urbosa in an unpopular opinion post, so I won’t drag that back out, but basically, outside of like one cutscene (in the DLC no less 🙄) she was pretty stale and boring for me. The character I love that everyone else hates: You know? SS Zelda. And I don’t know if people HATE her, but I know back in the day she got a pretty good amount of hate and I didn’t really like her that much either. But as I replayed the game, back then and more recently when the HD remake came out, I don’t mind her that much? And I appreciate what they were trying to do with her, making her more like a “normal” girl rather than a princess. Plus like you gotta admire her strength. She got flung down to the surface and had to escape Ghirahim on her own at least once. So she’s good in my book. Plus that scene when she goes to sleep? Just kill me.

Honorable mention: Revali. I don’t remember if people really hated him or still do, but I appreciated what they were doing with him, too. He was confident and skilled and it’s REFRESHING to have one of these Champions be like “hey hold up. why’s it gotta be a hylian? why can’t i be the leader of the champions? I’m fucking great, too.” His arc was really nice, too, even if predictable. Plus I seem to have a type. 🤷‍♀️ Not enough characters question destiny is basically my point. The character I used to love but don’t any longer: Honestly? Urbosa. Which seems odd but, upon the release of the game, I was really hype about the Gerudo and Urbosa as well. But the further I got into the game I just...lost interest. Plus some personal things didn’t help either, but I’m only human. The character I would totally smooch: Link just needs a good forehead kiss and a “you’re doing so great” tbh. Boy’s been THROUGH IT in every incarnation. The character I’d want to be like: Nabooru! Even though that’s basically based on my HCs because Nintendo refuses to do anything else with her. The character I’d slap: Tingle. Mf took all my money in WW back in the day. And that Sakon guy from from MM who tries to steal grandma’s bombs and steals Anju and Kafei’s wedding mask. Bitch. A pairing that I love: There aren’t REALLY that many canon ships, but I’ve always had a soft spot for LinkxMalon. There’s something sweet and wholesome about like idk...him maybe working on the farm before becoming a knight then coming back after training and marrying her and they have a nice, quiet-ish wholesome life. I dunno Malon’s just underrated in my book. She’s a sweet bean. A pairing that I despise: Besides Zelgan or Ganlink (is that the right name? idek)? Hmm...probably the suggestion of NabooruxTalon (Malon’s father). Like...not only is my muse like lol he’s definitely not my type, it just...doesn’t make sense with the canon imo? Like for starters, I’m pretty sure it’s stated Malon’s mom died? But also that she was very present until she died. Nabooru is the second in command of the Gerudo, which would require he to you know...be at the fortress probably most of the time. So, to me, it’s just not a viable HC. I CAN contend that she was maybe a Gerudo that decided to leave the desert and start a family (which even that I’m like eeeeh because I feel Malon should LOOK more Gerudo if that’s the case), but that’s as far as it goes.

Honorable mention: NabooruxLink, especially because fuckers like to say that she was “propositioning” a child when she absolutely wasn’t. Plus fan artists are gross and like to depict her with kid Link and I 🤢🤮. fuck off with that shit. And she’s saying Link isn’t her type either, anyway. xD

Doin one of my play by plays of the Pokemon movies.

It’s been a while since the last one! That’s cuz chronologically, we should do the 3rd one next, but the 3rd one is my fav and I’d rant for hours about how good it is and ain’t nobody got time for that, so we gonna skip straight to the fourth one.

I always remembered the fourth movie decidedly unfavorably. It’s categorized in my head as “the one that started the era of Pokemon movies that suck.”

And yeah it’s. Not as good as its predecessors. It was the movie that started the formula of “cute helpless legendary Pokemon needs to be saved from evul ppl.” It was the first one starring Ash’s new German voice actress, which was a big reason for me to stop watching the anime back in the day cuz WOW that new voice was the most grating thing in existence.

But looking back, I feel like I did the movie injustice. I think it’s got a lot of neat moments, and some that I honestly love, if only for their silliness. So let’s do this.

We start with music rehashed from the first movie. Not a good look, though that’s probably 4Kids fault.

GOD that cgi is ugly. And even worse, it was already back in the day!! There was never a time when this looked good.

Oh no, the evil guy is weakening Celebi in order to catch it...! ...Wait that’s what we’re doin all day long in the games.

Honestly, it never made sense to my why the plot of the anime was so often revolving around keeping people from catching wild Pokemon? I mean I guess Team Rocket wants to use them for bad things, but Ash & Co. usually justified them keeping Team Rocket from catching wild Pokemon with accusations like “These Pokemon don’t belong to you!” ...bitch, yeah, they don’t belong to you either, they don’t belong to anyone, that’s why we’re catching them, that’s the entire purpose of the goddamn franchise?

And if the problem here is that this guy wants to catch a legendary Pokemon, then why am I required to catch legendaries to advance the plot in the games?

What IS this guy’s outfit. Also will you believe me if I tell you it took me over 15 years to figure out this dude is a Team Rocket member?

Ah sure that sounds scientific and only slightly OP.

The title screen doesn’t exactly help the impression that this movie is severely half-assed, even if it’s made by 4Kids.

I also think it’s really funny that the English name of the movie is this run of the mill punny 4Kids bs. I mean. 4Kids. 4Ever. Wow. What ingenuity. And the German translation team took a look at that and went “NOPE, not doin it”, and called it “The timeless encounter”.

We’re about to see a Croconaw!!! :DDD

Will I ever be over the fact that Brock’s cute tiny Zubat evolved into a badass Crobat while I wasn’t looking? Nah.

Ah there it is, Ash’s new voice... You gotta understand, I had this huge crush on Ash when I was ~10yo, and his voice was a big part of that. So when it got replaced, I didn’t exactly take it well. Also the new one was doin its best to be even more grating than the English one. THEN AGAIN, the voice actress actually isn’t that bad in this movie and Mewtwo Returns.

No one knows how to actually pronounce Suicune until you hear someone else say it in a certain way and you go “NO that’s NOT how you say it!!”

I love how the old lady with the green hair is revealed to be the guardian of the entry to the forest since she was young. It’s just so funny how we just saw her jump about 30 foot off a tree as a teenager when Sammy was about to enter the forest, and go like “/game grumps zelda voice/ heeey kid, s’just a legend or whatever, but timetravel, it’s a thihiiing! Here, have some bread! byeee!” And then the kid vanished, and now she’s this grumpy old hag who waves her staff at everyone coming past her house like “DON’T EVEN FUCKING DARE GETTING CLOSE TO THAT FUCKING FOREST OR SO HELP ME GOD I WILL KICK YUR ASS!!”

That Stantler is fucking legendary. Idk how it is in the English version, but in the German dub, it’s just got the most normal voice. Like, often the ppl voicing Pokemon will kind of talk in a hissing tone, or make their voice sound deeper or whatever, but this Stantler sounds like a completely normal dude just matter-of-factly stating: “Damhir. Plex.”

And instead of, idk, holding Celebi into the water at the edge, Sammy walks into the lake, clothes and backpack and everything, and squats there like a tool. I mean I get it, the imagery is much stronger like this, but couldn’t he at least taken off the shoes? The backpack? THAT’S GOT HIS NOTEBOOK IN IT???

I love them. Every single one of them is so valid.

I really like these old anime glow effects~

The best part about Celebi healing Misty’s knee is how she doesn’t just slowly try to put weight on it or something, but straight up jumps around on it. Ride or die, man.

This is one of my fav moments in the entire movie, cuz you got Celebi cruisin around in the foreground, and the boys sitting there, looking at the viewer with this exact vacant stare for multiple seconds without making a noise or moving.

You know, I mean... the first two Pokemon movies were some pretty basic stuff. Esp. The second one was really just a McGuffin hunt. But this one is just such a poster child for the plot that would be recycled in Pokemon movies like no other. The entire narrative has completely halted. All we are doing is watching Ash, Sammy and Celebi bond. There are no stakes and no tension, except for the fact that the Pokemon hunter is still on the lose but he’s so forgettable, who honestly even still cares about him?

And the thing is, this bonding between Ash, Sammy and Celebi is important so they can save Celebi from turning evil later, but it still rings kinda hollow what with the montage they’re getting of all the fun times they had for the last, say two hours?

The much more important thing, which puts this movie a bit ahead of most other Pokemon movies with this structure, is that Ash isn’t just bonding with the legendary of the week, but also with Sammy.

And Sammy isn’t just a bff of the week, but an established core cast character. Imho, that’s what makes the movie worthwhile.

The dumb thing about this is that Celebi didn’t even get corrupted for any good reason. It was literally just “yeah it was in that weird pokeball for a sec now it’s evil.” ^^°

I remember first watching this movie and this was the point where I honestly started hating it because I was so disgusted by how unimaginative everything about this... ball? is...

yeah no, this is just. really really bad.

OKAY here’s another thing. WHY did Suicune turn up now?

On the one hand I do realize I like this movie more than I thought I did. On the other hand I’m starting to see why it was such a problem for me back then. This movie is just trying to copy formulas from the prior ones without really. Working for it. Remember Lugia and Ash working together? Lugia saving Ash and all that? Wasn’t that cool?

Yeah but there was also a reason for WHY Lugia stepped in and WHY they helped Ash. It was Lugia’s task to step in in case the three birds started fighting. And Ash was the chosen one. It’s flimsy as fuck, but it worked.

What’s Suicune’s connection to all of this? They’re... sorta like... another guardian of the forest. Cool. Then why didn’t they step in the moment the hunter attacked Celebi? There’s no real reason for them to save Ash and Sammy, except for the fact that they’re protags and they need plot shield.

Everything about the writing in this movie makes it so obvious even to a young teenager that this is just ticking boxes.

The thing is, the first three movies had at least one character developing. It took a human’s sacrifice for Mewtwo to learn the value of life, both of the life of others and their own. In the second movie, Ash had to live up to the responsibility of being the chosen one. And the third movie is just amazing and Molly is a really interesting character, she overcomes a deep grief and learns that escapism is not the answer to her problems and it’s just all around the best Pokemon movie of all time it’s got so much emotional depth idek where to start.

But here... Who learned anything? Who developed? And I think that’s where later Pokemon movies fall short. There’s not a lot of character development, and even if there is any, it just rehashes of the old movies. And while I couldn’t have put it into words like that when I was a young teen, I think that’s part of what bothered me so much about this one.

Also what’s with this bs talk about the lake being polluted or the forest dying? A couple of trees got uprooted and there’s a bit of dirt, honest to god nothing but soil and stuff, in the lake. Give it a couple of months and it’s gonna be fine. It’s not like there’s toxic waste in the water or anything.

I mean you could say the forest is dying cuz Celebi is dying, but by the logic of the movie, it was the other way around! And honestly, nothing in the background even looks like its wilting at ALL. So this really doesn’t leave much of an impression.

Fuck this, this is not earned.

At this point, the hunter guy is just bullying Celebi.

And this little overpowered dingdong can’t even free itself from some dude grabbing it. Okay sure so Ash needs to save it againnnn what are the emotional stakes hereee

ANYWAY. It was all worth it for the only actual plot twist in the history of Pokemon movies:

And I actually really, really like this one. It’s not just an awesome twist but also a super sweet moment between Ash and Prof. Oak that deepens their bond.

So yeah, I think I already said everything I had to say about this one. Kind of the beginning of the end for Pokemon movies. Not saying there aren’t some winners in between, but man did they get formulaic. And the recent attempts to break up said formula are. Questionable at best. It seems like Pokemon can’t really escape itself, though I’m sure if they wanted they could create meaningful stories like the first or third movies or just solid, fun action movies like the second one again.

ok, so rpg confession time!!! rpg games i ever fully completed in my lifetime (whether i was 10 or 13 or like 17-18 or even now) were only like. mario & luigi: bowsers inside story, super paper mario, pokemon white (i was obsessed with that game when it came out), pokemon y, pokemon alpha sapphire, final fantasy i (the playstation remake, i believe), and deltarune chapter 1. i believe i never finished undertale, but im well aware of what happened thanks to tumblr, a bunch of animations ive seen, and watching steam train play it

besides that, even tho i have pokemon emerald, firered, diamond, heartgold, black, black 2, moon, & ultra sun (i think???), ive ever never finished them, or even opened them for that matter (i think it was ultra sun ive never opened up bc i got more a serotonin adrenaline from mario odyssey that same year fhfjcjj), i tried playing final fantasy ii, iii, iv, v, vi & vii, but i never finished them, as u know i never finished any final fantasy game!!! idk what the full story of mario & luigi suoerstar saga & partners in time were bc i never finished any of them, i dont think ive ever played any other paper mario games after super paper mario (mostly bc either my lil bro had sticker star or we just never got color splash or the origami king yet), and i got an idea of what happens in super mario rpg, even tho i never actually finished it

i think i only know what happens in final fantasy vii because i watched an abridged series in middle school, that i dont think even aged that well??? i mean, i thot it was funny when i was like. 13-14, n if i watch it now, i might notice a lot of problems with that!!! in terms of jokes & writing, but hey. now ik what happens in final fantasy fhfufjjf

final fantasy iv & vi were the most ive played through bc i owned final fantasy vi on my tablet (now i could play it on my phone if i wanted to), and like. final fantasy iv was the last game i tried playing through when i was on my final fantasy kick when i was in middle school

ive never played any of the kingdom hearts game, and idek what happens, besides like. what ive seen snapcube played, and like, jokes people have made about the game

id like 2 play thru all of the kingdom hearts games, but 01) we dont have anytype of playstation consoles (we were always a nintendo family, bc thats always been the most affordable, theres brand recognition with stuff like the wii & ds, and like. there werent many games we wanted to play as kids, except for marlee & kingdom hearts) & 02) if i try emulating them on my pc, theyd take up a lot of my pcs space, so like. i cant really do anything besides watch the "movies" on youtube or just like. watch a youtuber im watching play those games

id talk about zelda, but idk if they technically count as rpgs. uhhhhhhhh, they r similar 2 final fantasy & the hobbit only by genre, so ig??? why not, mayb i'll talk abt zelda in a separate post fjjfjfjfjc

So me, with no fear of spiders, went down and, to my surprise, saw a spider the size of my hand and like an inch thick. No way was I putting my hand near that thing. So I ran upstairs to grab the vacuum, actually scared for once. I held up the hose like my sword and the vacuum as my shield as my sisters cowered behind me. After a deep breath I dove and sucked up the spider in one fell swoop! For a moment I was relieved until my younger sister just mutters “what if crawls out…” so now I finally start screaming, run upstairs and put the vacuum out on the deck, slam the door, and wait for my dad to get home. The end.

coffee... more like WORLD'S MOST MISERABLE BEVERAGE!!!!! 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳 ok more seriously i just don't like coffee NSJKFSKFH. i know there are people who dislike the taste but enjoy the smell, well i dislike Both! it's just so bitter it makes me sad. i tried adding deranged amounts of cream, or milk, or sugar, and nothing. it kept that bitterness. now coffee pastries??? that's entirely different i love coffee éclairs i love coffee macarons i don't even think they taste much like coffee at all but at least they're sweet and not bitter!! i respect coffee drinkers but that is simply not me 😔 makes more coffee for all the coffee likers at least!

and vidygame soundtracks... ohoho. idek if i can say i have an "opinion" on them i feel like this is just an invitation for me to ramble HDSHJFKH and so i will bc there's nothing more enjoyable to pass the time than Talking About Stuff I Like. umm so this is gonna go without saying but a game can really be make or break based on the soundtrack alone. i don't know a single good game with a bad soundtrack but i know quite a few games that wouldn't have had the same impression on me if the soundtrack was a miss. my attachment to night in the woods, aside from the endearing characters, really comes from the fact the entire soundtrack fits the game so well. bc there's some stuff i don't like in the games! like the way the game ends, idk if it's really dislike but it just... kind of left me there? the game doesn't give u time to process it or anything. but like the soundtrack bangs so i don't even care. the soundtrack of a game can rlly truly pull you into that universe. u already know what game i'm gonna talk about but gris might've been less phenomenal hadn't it been for its soundtrack, which btw is on spotify (and so is the nitw soundtrack) so any spotify users who want those soundtracks gogogo!! another game like that would be okami, very different ofc but the soundtrack is REALLY good and also on spotify c:. that's a great game btw heavily recommend it even if the sidekick is extremely kickable. umm in general i've always had a big love for soundtracks from the legend of zelda games as questionable as those games are, but when it comes to the music genuinely fitting the game breath of the wild did it amazingly. i think that's what makes the game so fun to explore even if you're not doing any quests, you can just run around and visit places and the music accompanies you, it's very pleasant! it just feels comfortable. very good another game soundtrack i'd rlly recommend is bravely default's - i haven't played any game other than the first one so i can't say much of the others but tracks like silence of the forest or beneath the hollow moon Saved My Life. it's a shame that allegedly the person who composed the soundtrack also worked on... aot... 🤡🤡🤡 BUT ANYWAY LOL in that same way the sung track from fire emblem fates (if~hitori omou) is gorgeous and i love to sing it <3 in general fire emblem soundtracks aren't too memorable (like no i can tell you if a track is from an fe game but it's not like, That Good) but that one song and don't speak her name from fire emblem awakening are two very good tracks. if u check out all of those u will probably find a pattern i'm not sure what pattern but there's a pattern DHSJFHJSK... i'm not gonna go on and talk about ace attorney's soundtrack even if i really like it bc i feel like you have to play the games to enjoy them otherwise they're just eh, HOWEVER i will say. professor layton soundtracks. they're REALLY good even if they REALLY feel like what i imagine britain is like (except for the azran legacy ig idk i forgot where it takes place exactly lmao) and like i just think they're neat! they make me emotional! so uh yeah that was my rambling about videogame soundtracks!!!!!!!!!! and if u have any more specific questions about videogames i'd love to answer them <333

Dan’s Playstation 5 Reveal Analysis

Alright so first off, if I say something bad about a game you care about.. It’s just my opinion, although tbh they were all pretty decent games so.. yeah.. Just gonna give my thoughts on stuff, Idek if anyones interested I just feel like doing it. Maybe have some conversations with people about it.

GTA V

It’s a ps3 game, cool that the online is free when it comes to PS5 but like..it does just feel like Rockstar paid to have this mentioned and they just shrugged and quickly shoved it at the front of the presentation to get it over and done with before starting for realsies.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Now this isn’t their Spider-Man 2, this is a side game like Infamous First Light was a side game but I love the PS4 Spider-Man it’s one of my favourite games and I know I’ll love this one too so yeah, real solid start. Makes me realise I need more Miles Morales in my life.

Gran Turismo 7

I played Gran Turismo back on like.. maybe the Playstation 1, honestly Car games just aren’t for me but in like my first initial reaction to the whole reveal I said that there’s games for basically everyone, if you like a specific type of game there is a game for you and car nerds have this. Looks visually stunning though.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart

Looks stunning, so much happening and really good at showing the power of the Playstation with the travelling to different worlds instantly so quick. I grew up on Ratchet and Clank and I am down for more! I wish it had a dirtier name like Rift A Whole or something to go with the vibes of Up your Arsenal or Quest for Booty or Full Frontal assault.. but looks great!

Project Athia

Games with the word Project in the title we don’t end up seeing for ageeees but visually it looks stunning, I’d like to know more about it but we’ll just have to wait and see.

Stray

I have no idea if this is a linear story or a wide open world game or anything. The world looks amazing, robots and fun Grafiti art hinting at a really dark past but yeah Stray cat sim looks cool. I just wanna know more about it but it’s for sure on my to watch list.

Returnal

Terrible name.. but the game’s story seems somewhat interesting, I thought it would be a first person horror space game with survival elements but then the gameplay seems like a third person bullet hell type thing, honestly it’s not for me but I’m sure there’s some people hyped for it. I’m also a coward so too spooky 4 me.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure

I like Sackboy as a mascot, same with Ratchet and Clank actually, and I actually really enjoyed Little Big Planet, I never really messed around with the creation aspect of it, I’d like to know if that’s still in the game or if this is simply a platformer type game that you can also play with your friends, either way I might get it but with all the other games around, maybe not. Great if you’re a parent who wants to play something with your kids though!

Destruction Allstars

Honestly.. I haven’t played a Destruction Derby game since like the PS2 and I am so ready for one, I like the whole being able to get out of your vehicle aspect too, seems like a really new and fun idea and take and I’m down to play. I kind of hope it’s free to play with like paid customisation options, like Fortnite, because then I can Just play it for free and people can work out if it’s for them or not.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits

OHMYGOD THEY ARE SO CUTE THEY KEPT MY BOLD ON! No but this game looks gorgeous and kind of like a Pixar film but in the best way. It’s like a mix of Pikmin, Horizon Zero Dawn and Zelda and I am sure it’ll be probably quite liniar maybe with puzzles but loooook atthe spirits omg they’re the cutest. The enviroments also look gorgeous so.. I’m down.

Goodbye Volcano High

One of those like Teen growing up discovering the world but like.. they’re dinosaurs and I’m sure the game probably ends with the meteor wiping them out.. honestly not a game for me but people that love that feelsy teen drama type game might be loving whatever this is.

Oddworld: SoulStorm

The first game creeped me the fuck out as a kid but fans of the series are gonna love this by the looks of it, personally it’s not for me, I’m terrible at these kind of side scrolling lemmings type things but.. I’m sure it’s someones game of the year when it comes out for sure.

Ghostwire Tokyo

Again, I’m a coward. Game looks interesting, too spooky for me for sure but I’m sure some people will enjoy it’s aesthetic but yeeaaah just not for me.

Jett: The Far Shore

This game looks stunning and very interesting but I also have no idea wtf it even is, it’s like a space.. exploration game maybe? No idea. For sure a wait and see game.

Godfall

This trailer is terrible for a game that I could enjoy. This is like supposed to be like Destiny from what I’ve heard where you play with your friends and you get better gear but this trailer feels like it’s from 2011. I’d like to see what the progression looks like because right now all the gear I’ve seen looks the same, I need to see what a starting character looks like, someone who’s in the middle of the game and then someone at the end, because the getting gear loop is only good if you actually want the loot.. but yeah looks interesting, i need more information and maybe a better trailer?

Solar Ash

I never played Hyper Light Drifter but the fact the name rings a bell to me means it’s probably a great game, this gives me like weird Journey vibes which is a game I found really gorgeous and if you haven’t played Journey you should, it’s a basically the answer to “Are games art?” and the answer is yes. But Solar Ash.. I need more than these like 5 seconds so.. We’ll see.

Hitman 3

Kill people the most creative way you can, now with better graphics. Idek if anyone is interested in the actual story of it anymore but I know a lot of people will be hyped to play it, it’s not for me because I’m terrible at it, but for sure going to see a lot of this on youtube probably.

Astro’s Playroom

If you’re hating on this, you don’t understand it. Apparently, first off, it’s apparently free. So.. instantly you can’t hate it. Second off, it’s really just Playstation’s tech demo for the controller. I think it’s just going to show you how the controllers haptic feedback works and feels and maybe show some cool Playstation graphics but yeah, it’s a free way to see how cool the controller is now so.. fair enough.

Little Devil Inside

This is the game I’m probably the most curious about. I love the art style of it, I don’t really know what the gameplay is of it, it seems like ti could be some sort of big open world monster hunter type thing then you bring your kill home to your Butler Jeeves, who knows. Looks really interesting.

This is made by the people who made octodad so maybe it’ll be a big like youtuber or streamer game.. the ending of the trailer for it is.. like.. suddenly spooky and scary for some reason :P Honestly though, I’ve seen the trailer a few times now and that fucking song is stuck in my head even though the only word i know is ‘Bugsnax’.. again it looks like a game for kids and parents so like that’s nice!

Demon’s Souls

The daddy of all the souls type games is back and remastered. Honestly, I can’t play those games to save my life, i don’t enjoy them because I just get annoyed and stop playing forever, but this will be someones favourite game of all time.

Deathloop

I have no idea what this game really is despite seeing gameplay, is it two player where one of the people has to kill the target and then the other has to kill them before they do? Or singleplayer? Or.. ???? either way I love the style of it and I like the death time loop mechanic so I am more than happy to give this one a go.

Resident Evil VIllage

Very cool use of the VII to be quite honest, but I’m a coward so this looks to be a stunning game that a lot of people will love that I will never play :D

The Actual Ps5 Console

I think people will either hate the design or love it. I really like it and honestly the more I see it the more I like it. Idk about the digital edition, I kind of like owning disks but if it’s considerably cheaper then maybe it’ll be worth it seeing as I do tend to buy most of my games digitally now. Either way, looks cool, the tech is impressive and Yeah.. let’s face it, I’ll get one. Idk if it’ll be on release, but I will get one.

Fic Decade In Review

My best story of this decade: I think love leaves a mark and love leaves a strain (Supergirl, Kara/Cat) is up there. I enjoyed delving into a complicated relationship and a lot of the layers and unexplored dynamics between two women with a lot of baggage, and I feel like I captured the tension I was aiming to. I think that my strongest style is the Five or Ten Times/Things, and that that came across well in stories like we are a woven thread, find the strand (Star Wars, Leia Organa-centric) and The Kindness of Strangers (ASOIAF/Game of Thrones, Lysa Tully-centric).

My most popular story of this decade (by kudos, comments or notes): Rites of Passage (ASOIAF/Game of Thrones, Ned/Cat, House Stark) by a long shot in terms of hits; The Kindness of Strangers (ASOIAF/Game of Thrones, Lysa-Tully-centric) and You Shake The Insides of What I Hide (Supergirl, Kara/Cat) are pretty evenly matched in terms of kudos.

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: I really love beckoning towards me from behind that closed door (Supergirl, Kara Danvers-centric), which is a collection of AU snippets from lives Kara never lived. I’m not good at plot but I love envisioning worlds and imagining little bits of how things could have gone. I also really had fun with Beacon (Doctor Who, companions-centric), which I wrote during the 2012 London Olympics and thought was a clever concept based on the s2 David Tennant episode.

Most fun story to write: Rites of Passage (ASOIAF/Game of Thrones, Ned/Cat, House Stark). Pure self-indulgent fluff and comedy. I also enjoyed Dare to Defy (Supergirl, Kara/Cat), but that was more petty/satisfying than pure fun.

Hardest story to write: What Mates Do (Sarah Jane Adventures, Luke & Clyde) was the result of a prompt that intimidated the hell out of me. Writing male friendship was really difficult, that was something I had no experience in. I liked the result though! Also, Changing Constellations (Supergirl, Kara/Cat), just because it’s been years and I never finished it; I still have some of it drafted but so much has happened (this was started/conceptualized before s2 started) that it’s hard to get back into that headspace.

Biggest disappointment: All the things I didn’t finish. I had so many ideas for the just too unreal, all this (ASOIAF/Game of Thrones, Sansa/Margaery) universe, and for several other stories that will never see the light of day just because too much time has gone by and I’m not in the fandom headspace anymore. There are also stories that I still hope to finish, but thought I would have by now. Anything that’s made it to AO3 is a win as far as I’m concerned.

Biggest surprise: My most recent fic, The Last Glimpse of Winter (Harry Potter, Remus/Sirius). I’ve been in the Harry Potter fandom for nearly 20 years now and for some reason last year fell into a rabbit hole of this ship. I’d never written m/m before and still don’t know what prompted this, but I signed up for a fic exchange this year just to challenge myself. The prompts I got were really challenging and I’m not thrilled with it, but it was definitely a surprising note to end the decade on.

Most unintentionally telling story: Just looking back at all of the things I wrote over the last ten years, I was struck by We’ll Find A New Equation (Sarah Jane Adventures, gen). I’d forgotten how much I liked that one. It’s an old fic, back from 2011, but it has a brittle feeling of limbo that feels pretty representative of a lot of this decade for me, as well as a thread of determination and hope. Plus, the way Maria sees Sarah Jane and wants to be close to her is SO representative of baby gay Avery wanting to befriend and be close to all of her favorite glamorous teachers.

Favorite Opening Lines: “She has been here nearly three moons now, and still the cold is a shock. It’s a living thing with long fingers that worm through the heavy layers of furs and boiled leather to grasp her wrists and ribs, stealing into her lungs like water and freezing there, prickly icicles raw in her throat. What little breath she has turns to fog that blurs her vision and stings her eyes.

Reflection time for 2019:

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d predicted? About what I predicted, I suppose, but less than I’d hoped.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January? Catelyn Stark & Daenerys Targaryen in the wait is long (the dream of you does not end) from the GoT show-verse. It’s a strange combination, for one thing! Besides that, I’ve never given writing Dany much thought, and I’ve stepped away from the fandom these last few years, but it kind of came out in a rage after the finale. I like it! It’s weird and trippy but it was satisfying to write.

What’s your own favorite story of the year? It’s a short list - I only wrote three things this year - but I like A Dress Wearing A Face In The Doorway (CAOS, Zelda Spellman-centric) a lot. I had a concept for continuing that and I hope to get inspired again after the new season.

Did you take any writing risks this year? I signed up for @rs-small-gifts and wrote male slash for the first time ever, so that was an adventure.

Do you have any fanfic goals for the new year? I don’t like setting goals bc I hardly ever reach them, lol, but there’s something I’m working on now that I hope and expect to finish soon (it’s a weird throwback to an old fandom, idek) and beyond that just keep writing wherever and whenever I can find the inspiration.
