What inspired devoted innocence? I lowkey want to send it to my therapist bc u literally perfectly portrayed the effects of trauma and how it can make u a ppl pleaser
thank yew! but please don't send it to your therapist, it's like me showing tiktok edits to mine when i have nothing to say when she asks what i have been up to... like that poor therapist doesn't deserve to see such a monstrosity or an edit of iasip or arthur morgan or uh nvm-
anyway! to answer your question!! personal experiences, a story heard from my dear bestie and creative imagination!
most of my fics are exaggerated personal experiences and i often try to imagine how this scenario would affect a person. i act as the characters, write some dialogue first and play the characters, thinking about what would they say next or react.
there is never black and white when it comes to people- nobody is purely evil or good and so it must be portrayed in the media. nanami isn't purely evil in devoted innocence, he can somewhat tell the difference between right and wrong sometimes but he's too proud to admit it when it comes to his own mistakes. he's a product of the past and in this case gojo and geto's. those two aren't just evil either, tried showing that with the scene where they talk about the daughters, and in feigned innocence, gojo is perceived through the eyes of someone who worships him. he struggles to care for her because he doesn't know how. he expects unconditional love no matter what because of who he is but it is also sort of a curse, his name and status mean he will never find an equal.
in devoted innocence, the scenes with nanami and shoko were crafted through my playing the characters in a way an actor/actress does. i get in the headspace of the characters as much as i can and there are tons of vids of me playing the characters on my computer, cringy? very much. but i treat writing these fics like my film projects. if you learn to play different characters, you'll know how they'll behave next.
maybe all of this comes as overdoing things but man... i love telling stories. i may not be the best writer or write English well but it will never stop me from writing and putting effort into crafting stories.
everyone can write a love story but turning a well-loved character into a twisted stalker with issues needs a girl filming herself talking to a nessie plushie.

The Difference Between South Park and IASIP, From a Fan of Both
As much as I love South Park (and I unironically do - in fact, I own nearly every season on DVD, have several of the plushy characters, tiny little quarter machine figurines of every available character, I think) and think it’s often dismissed as “just offensive to be offensive” because as someone who has watched every single episode, it is incredibly political and has depth to it, Matt and Trey aren’t as gifted or hardworking at writing as RCG. This isn’t meant to insult, of course. It’s simply something I’ve noticed. In fact, they didn’t go into South Park as writers primarily, nor as the “preachy and up its own ass of messages political stuff” that they’re known for now, and you can definitely see that as you watch the episodes consecutively. They’ve gone to workshops and had to take lessons on writing structure and watch and analyze shows they love (Battlestar Gallactica) on what they feel makes these shows work, whereas I believe RCG went into the show as writers, knowing what they wanted from the show. Matt and Trey write the episodes like three days before they air, which allows them to be current and reference election results the day after and keep their political commentary and pop culture fresh. Which, honestly, works for South Park, and it is probably the only show where that could ever actually work. However, due to their constant referencing of the most recent craze, satirizing the most recent political drama, and writing, voicing, and animating episodes in as little as three days, this means jokes, references, and commentaries don’t age well, and you can often feel the lack of time spent on the episodes. It also means they are inconsistent with how their writing is handled. What keeps it fresh spoils it. With Always Sunny, however, they work on the episodes, they take time, and have a more consistent take on how they use their satire. Does this always work? Probably not for everyone, although it has for me. As they don’t focus so much on keeping topics and pop culture references “fresh” it also allows their episodes more “shelf life” in a sense. An episode of South Park, to me, is like the quick ficlet you bash out in an hour whereas Always Sunny is the short fic that you worked on for a full week. In South Park, you write your Idea first and work the Point into it later, whereas with Always Sunny, you write the Point and work the Idea around it. In the end, while both shows make me Think and Laugh and Enjoy, Always Sunny does it more. It also adds emotional depth to it, which makes it hit in a different way; a way I find more personally fulfilling.
