Week 8: Coming Home

Alas, I regret to inform you that this farewell my friends. At the end of the 8th week of our program, my time in Madrid has come to an end (for the time being) and it was a week full of finals, goodbyes, and reflection. I made sure to especially cherish each activity I did this week: the last visit to the metro, the last walk home to our apartment, the last night out, the last view of the city, the last time eating at our favorite local restaurant. Thankfully, I was able to capture some of these moments visually with some nice pics, but they'll never fully do these moments justice.

Over the course of this program, I've made some lifelong friends and some many unforgettable memories, and I'd just like to extend my thanks to everyone at IPE and CEA for giving me this wonderful opportunity to come to Madrid and immerse myself in its fantastic culture. I feel like I've grown a lot as a person in these two months, like I've aged a thousand years despite how short the time has felt. If I hadn't made it clear before, I must now: if you find yourself able to go and study/intern abroad, I implore you to go for it. The life experience you will gain is absolutely invaluable.

Now for some highlights and recommendations for whoever chooses to come visit Madrid:

VISIT THE MUSEUMS!! This is especially emphasized if you are a student–many museums will let you enter for free or at a heavily discounted price and Madrid is home to some of the best art in the world. You can't go wrong with the trifecta of the Reina Sofia, Museo del Prado, and the Thyssen Museum.

Eat local. The large restaurants and chain locations are fine, but there are many, many gems to be found in local hole-in-the-wall bars and restaurants, especially if you are looking for tapas. You'll save a lot too!

Take a day trip to a nearby town or city. You can find train or bus tickets for quite cheap and there are many beautiful towns with rich history in Spain. Toledo and Segovia, for example, were lovely.

Watch a Real Madrid match if they're in town. Even if you're not a soccer (football) fan, this is one of the most storied sports teams on the planet with an incredibly passionate fanbase, so the atmosphere alone of being at a match will make it worth your while.

Use the metro. This is easily the most convenient method of transportation in Madrid, as their metro system in excellent. The public buses are quite good as well. The point is, use public transportation.

I like to say that a lot, if not most of the best things to happen in life are the ones that you don't see coming, so if you plan to visit, I also recommend leaving some free time to just explore see where life takes you. There's lots to do in and around Madrid and sometimes the fondest memories are the little ones.

And with that I don't really know if I have much more that I can say to you guys that will do this experience justice. Thanks to everyone for following my experience and lending some of your time to read my posts, thanks again to IPE and CEA, and of course thanks to my parents for allowing me to take this journey. RECS: Top 30 Anime of All Time According to CDawgVA

We've all had that moment where you're in the car with your friend and they ask to put some music on. For me, panic sets in — my music is weird as all hell. Do I lie and play music I think they will like, or do I just embrace the fact that I'm going to play weird stuff? This is the modern-day reality of being an anime fan online.

Hi, I'm Connor, a personality online! I had my YouTube career (if you will) blow up because of my love of anime, and I'm constantly asked which anime are my favorites. Well, for the first time, I'll let you know! Essentially, this list is my 30 favorite anime of all time. Now this list will include some you expect, some you didn't and of course Jojo.

1. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure

I think anyone who knows me expected this. I love Jojo's, I love everything about Jojo's. The fanbase may be rabid and obnoxious at times, but there's something about this series that makes it a community event to be a part of. It's got a hard-to-appreciate art style at first, but it really grows on you. It becomes almost infectious and there isn't anything like it. Luckily, for fans of the manga, the anime produced by David Productions has done nothing but heighten the series by adding a soundtrack and voice work that most anime would die for.

2. Bokurano

Bokurano is difficult. It's uncomfortable. It's ugly. But it's a show you can't ever forget. Bokurano constanly leaves you unsettled and unhappy. It forces you to address your thoughts on life and the suffering that can come with it, something that many anime have tried and failed to do. I wholeheartedly believe Bokurano is a show that everyone must watch at least once.

3. Ping Pong the Animation

I think at one point or another, we've all naturally took to a skill or hobby and later dropped it, only to, later on in life, wish we had tried harder. Inversely, I think we've all had skills that we wish we could get better at, only to get frustrated seeing people exercise those skills with ease. Ping Pong manages to capture that very basic human experience and package it in a simple 12-episode series that I ended up loving way more than I ever expected.

4. Attack on Titan

A very safe pick for sure, but Attack on Titan really does deserve the hype surrounding it, and as the final season is coming to an end, it's been an amazing experience getting to follow along for nearly eight years. Continually, Attack on Titan has surprised audiences with tear-filled episodes and goosebump-inducing moments.

5. Mob Psycho 100

Mob Psycho 100, although sometimes overshadowed by its bald, overpowered brother, [Mob Psycho 100] really has shown audiences that it's something special. Mob's journey of self-improvement, mixed with the fantastically charismatic Reigen makes for a beautiful, heart-warming, and overall beautifully animated experience.

Honestly, writing this list was way harder than I expected, we are absolutely spoiled for choice, this list could easily be a top 100. But I hope some of you reading this find something new that you might check out.

So I made lyrics for Simple Plot of Pokemon Black and White, trying to keep in touch with the spirits of the original songs. Probably going to be edited a bit at some point to flow better.

Host: ugh.... welcome back to talking video games. Could've sworn we were canceled, but we were picked up by another Network. The last guy jumped off a cliff while jerking off onto pancakes so now I'm hosting. Joy.

Today, as usual, our topic is simple plots. Let's start and HOPEFULLY keep it nice and simple. Nice. And. Simple. GO

Mario: Itsa me, Mario, and I save a princess and go downa pipes! *clapping*

Host: okay... so far so good.

Bentley Bear: yeah im Bently Bear, I collect gems. *clap*

Host: great! Wonderful!

Hilbert: Hi, I'm Hilbert from Pokemon Black and White

Host: oh, ha, pokemon, lemme guess: you capture pokemon and collect gym badges to become champion.

Hilbert: well... *music starts*

Host: OH FOR FUCK'S SAKE

Hilbert:

Welcome to Unova, this ain't Kanto

Johto Hoenn or even Sinnoh

We're so far away over the big blue sea

We're journeying through Pokemon NYC!

I get a gift pokemon with my two best pals

Nerdy boi Cheren and Bianca the cutie blonde gal

We have a battle right there in my fuckin bedroom

It messes shit up so bad my mom needs a pan and broom

Then go to Professor Juniper the first lady Proffessor

Host: is she hot

Hilbert: well I wanna do more than kiss her!

We get our pokedexes and leave on our way

When we see some dorky knights addressing the crowd all dressed up in Grey

Release your pokemon they're not your fuckin slaves! They shout

Man what the fuck? That really made me pout

Then N appears- hes a weird ass hippie with green hair that talks fast

Sympathizes with Team Plasma and then I kick his ass!

Host:

how far are we along in this really weird tale

It sounds a lot like another PETA fail

I can't imagine much more than this much fuckin detail

Hilbert: oh buddy, we haven't even gotten to Driftveil

Host: wha

Hilbert:

So our journey begins and I fight some chef bros

They use elemental monkeys designed to combat your first Pokes

Beat them up easily and went to the Dream Yard

To help Bianca stop Team Plasma from kicking Munna super hard

Host: what the fuck is a Munna

Hilbert: not really that important

Just like teaming up with Cheren to beat up team Plasma

In a cave to the north after they steal pokemon from a kid

And on my way I go to Lenora to my second badge get!

They steal a dragon Skull and run to the woods

Where a fancy art man helps us get back the goods

Coincidentally he is the leader of the gym in Unova's biggest City

Where we destroy his bugs to make our badges a trinity!

Host: I'm going to need you to wrap this up soon

We only have so much air time this afternoon

Because I don't get paid enough for this bullshit!

Hilbert: ugh fine I'll skip around a bit

Go to Nimbassa City to get badge 4 from Elesa the hottie and

Help out Bianca sort out her daddy issues aw lawdy

Arrive to Driftveil

Host: Finally!

Hilbert: hey don't interrupt me!

Beat Clay's ass, N arrives again to challenge our ways

Friend or foe to pokemon, which are you he says!?

I beat his ass and go up a haunted tower

To finally meet waifu Skyla and God damn do I wanna plow her

Clip her wings for badge 6 and head to Iccarus City

Where we beat Brycen's ice and feel a little pity

N awakens one of the dragons and sends us to find

The other dragon

It's an orb

What a pain the hind!

Host:

Oh please, please hurry the fuck up!

I think I wanna die, I wanna throw up!

I fuckin signed up for fuckin easy plots!

The last guy quit after kingdom hearts

Hilbert: come on, we're nearly at the conclusion

After all we get badge eight right from Opelucid

Onto Victory Road where we challenge the Elite 4

Host: the end!?

Hilbert: nope! We still have to settle a score!

In a big plot twist Team Plasma takes over

The Elite 4 castle and even beats champion Alder

A fight of truth and ideals, of black and white and our feels

Separate or unite humanity and pokemon

a fight fought between Reshiram and Zekrom

I just barely win but N's dad is mentally sick!

He tricked N from the very beginning for his own gains

Crowd: WHAT A DICK

Hilbert: and finally we beat his Hydreigon and kick his black hearted bacon

And help N come to this realization

That people and pokemon work best together!

And with tears in our eyes he says

Accomplish your dreams

Fair well!

But not forever!

Host: I can't believe it!

Its finally over!

This covered more ground than the Mars land rover!

Its over- we're done! Everyone can go home!

Hilbert: not quite

Host: WHAT HAVE YOU FUCKING DONE

*music draws to a close*

Rosa: Hi! I'm Rosa from Pokemon Black and White 2!

Host: NOOOOOO!
