What are your thoughts on Dani and her relationship with Santana ? Based on the scraps of her that we got haha. I didn't even know who demi Lovato was, I'd heard of the name but had no idea what she looked like, so when Dani showed up it was cool a cute and fun girlfriend for Santana, let's do this. After the break up in s4 I really wanted for Santana to have a serious enough relationship, if only for a little while. It seemed like that's what it was with Dani but then again we never got to see it. Do you think they were in love, even a little? I super missed the version of the loft with kurtcheltana (+Brittany) and friends, i think Elliot and Dani could still all be friends (maybe reluctant friends at first), still have their silly little band. (go away youngings from ND, you're illegal squatters, no one likes you)

(and I think the pre-brittany era could even work well with your faberry shipping heart, what with Rachel being jealous of Dani, of constantly seeing Dani and Santana being all coupley, when Rachel's literally right there! Brittany's far away but you have another girlfriend prospect right here Santana!)

How do you see all those situations coming to be? (I swear I'm not begging for fics, I mean I am, but I know how very busy you are. But like, your thoughts, a short essay maybe ;) I just adore and appreciate your Santana loving brain very very much)

Oh anon, I have ignored you for far too long. My apologies. This is a very layered ask haha so I’m going to answer as best as I can but sorry in advance if I don’t cover everything off.

It’s hard to know what the deal was with Dantana because we never really saw much of them. They go from meeting/starting to date in 5x02 to being in a committed relationship and appearing quite domestic throughout the rest of 5A, then having an offscreen breakup to make room for Brittana again. So… it’s all really open to our interpretation? I feel like that’s why half the fandom think Dani was just a super casual virtual stranger-type for Santana, while the other half think it might’ve been something a bit more real between them (I’m wilfully ignoring those who hate Dani solely for not being Brittany). There’s no evidence to support either reading of the relationship all that much, because the writers just didn’t give us anything to go on. When it comes to Dantana, anything goes.

That said, if I were going to write a fic to fill in the blanks for season 5 Dantana, (which I’m not because I barely have time for my other pairings) it would probably go something like this:

First date: post 5x02 kiss but before Santana’s horrible biphobic comment to Rachel in the diner. I’d set this up as Santana being open to a new relationship but still very much hanging on to Brittany, and her first date with Dani feeling like a bit of a new beginning. She’s a cute girl, they get along. Santana has a good time. They banter, they kiss etc. She’s feeling hopeful, and not to mention glad that Dani is NOTHING like Brittany, who she is definitely, absolutely over by now. Why wouldn’t she be? She has Dani.

5x03: Santana would be with Dani when she finds out about Finn’s death. Rachel and Kurt would be too busy having their own reactions for Santana to feel right having hers too loudly anywhere near them. Maybe she holds it together for ages and Dani is the only one encouraging her to let it out, then shows up at Dani’s apartment when she gets home from the funeral and just falls into her arms crying or something. It could’ve been a nice opportunity for Dantana to go beyond surface level, and for Santana to be vulnerable around her new girlfriend, which I feel would’ve then given way to some of the more casual touching moments we got between them in scenes thereafter.

Then somewhere between The Quarterback & Frenemies/Trio I would’ve written stuff like:

Dani hanging with Kurcheltana, and later Elliot, in the loft. They all get close during band rehearsals and start having movie nights/going out etc. Kurt is Dani’s favourite, but she pretends Rachel is because it gets Santana all wound up and leads to some great sex later on. They haven’t talked about why.

Elliot and Dani besties. That is all.

Rachel and/or Kurt walking in on Dantana making out on the couch in the loft. It’s a constant “will you two stop doing it on our couch?!”/“this is my bed!” running bit. They give up after a while and mostly just hook up at Dani’s house. That’s pretty much where Santana is whenever we don’t see her with Rachel/Kurt in season 5. Dantana spend a lot of time together and Santana genuinely starts to think she might be getting over Brittany.

Elliott/Dani and Kurtana double gay bestie dates in New York. Oh what fun they could’ve had.

Another girl propositions Santana “and her girlfriend” for a threesome while at a gay bar one night and Santana goes into full lesbian panic mode. Dani thinks it’s hilarious and helps her talk her way out of it. When she hears about the incident later, Rachel is oddly eager to hear if that’s something they’d be into.

First I love you: It’s not a big deal, but more like one of those accidental slips. Eg. Dani humouring Santana by contributing to one of her little rants about Rachel by throwing in a sarcastic comment of her own, and Santana being like “God, I love you.” Then they’re both just like 😳😳 for a second. Santana’s just about to bury herself in the ground when Dani gives her a peck on the cheek and is just like “What’s not to love?” because she knows that’ll be the easiest way to talk Santana off the ledge. Then Dani tells Santana she loves her later that night while they’re falling asleep, thinking Santana is already passed out, only for Santana to crack one eye open and stare at her. Then Dani is like 😳😳 so Santana just threads their fingers together with a lil’ smirk on her face and goes “What’s not to love?”

Post frenemies fight, Dani goes over to the loft to find Santana on her own taping the torn Pezberry photo back together on the floor. Santana tries to brush it off but eventually opens up to her gf and cries about the whole thing. Makes it clear she’s mad at Rachel, but she’s also upset with Rachel and herself for screwing everything up. Dani just hugs her and lets her get it all out. She knows better than to offer advice where Pezberry are concerned.

I think I accidentally just sold myself on Dantana in the process of responding to this ask so I’m gonna stop here because I need a minute before thinking about breaking them up… Ask me again in a few days.

I absolutely agree with you, queer baiting is literally what they did on the 100 after clexa bangarama’d and then lexa gets sniped in the stomach .007 seconds later. I also agree that Mia also posts pics of Erana for content but it’s not a malicious or gross way, you know what I mean. I just think the fandom has absolutely no chill and don’t think they realize how invasive they truly are of their privacy. Then continue to harass them about their sexuality, like chill. Along with the racism going on with twatter, just all around the fandom is a fat yikes atmosphere, and there’s very few like chill people in this fandom.

oh for sure. or like faberry was queer baiting 100% for SO many reasons, but the actresses being close friends wasn’t queer baiting, which people also complained about way back in 2010 ish 🙄

This is another one I’m sad hasn’t updated in a while! This honestly stole my heart to a point that in the time I found it in mid April 2019 and June of 2019 I have re-visited the fic 105 times, rereading it at least half as many as that. I’m really hoping the author comes back to the fic, because it was keeping me on the edge of my seat.

Together, they start a revolution.

5. Just off the Key of Reason by iamapanda

This one is another absolute classic in the Faberry fandom, and is another fic that has stuck with me throughout the years! It has a fantastic softer take on Quinn that I truly appreciated because everyone back in the early years of the fandom would make her so angry and bitter and she’s just so soft in some interpretations

Rachel Berry is a successful Broadway star with a new roommate, the very odd, naive Quinn Fabray. It starts with a note on the fridge and a childishly scrawled doodle of an elephant. Everybody has a little crazy in them.

4. Still off the Key of Reason by iamapanda

Chapters: 37/37 [185k]

The sequel to Just off the Key of Reason! Still as soft and as crazy! I can’t mention one without having the other in the list as well! I can’t explain how it feels to look at the ff.net pages after so long, my heart is transported back to 2011 and I’m sitting on my bed after I’m supposed to be in bed. I miss the days where I could just spend time reading these fics and not having adult responsibilities.

Quinn is thundering her way through vet school. Rachel is enlightening the west coast with her talent. The story continues with a wedding, dogs in tuxedos, and Pooh Bear vows. Crazy never fades.

3. A Million Miles of Fun by Jade8Devlin

Chapters: 12/12 [103k]

This one is a little different from the last ones! It isn’t my favorite because of its literary genius, but because of how fun and out there it is! It’s concept is fresh and dark and something I honestly didn’t expect to see but it quickly grew to be a favorite for me!

warning for violence, abuse, mentions of murder! the whole story revolves around The Unholy Trinity + Rachel murdering Quinn’s family so please take that into consideration!

And in Lima, Ohio, a man and woman were killed earlier today during what is believed to be a home invasion. Russell Fabray was last seen leaving Gas'N'Go at two o'clock; his wife, Judith, from a grocery story an hour earlier. 3.14 On My Way

Rating: 3/5. This is probably a great episode, but I just cried too much. Obviously the Karofsky plot line was an important tearjerker, but all the stuff about Rachel wanting Finn to be with her forever and about how they didn’t want anyone in Glee Club to commit suicide? It was really hard.

Best Song: Cough Syrup. Darren Criss really gave it his all. Also, I thought it was paired beautifully with Karofsky’s scenes/Max Adler’s phenomenal acting.

Rachel’s trying to argue that it’s more important for her and Finn’s future if she sings at Regionals than to forfeit singing so that Finn’s photoshopped junk isn’t posted all over the internet. Girl. That’s not true. Do you know how the internet works?

Another bondage sweater from Kurt

OH NO. KAROFSKY. NO. NO.

This is horrific and watching Karofsky shift from crying on the bed to his expression when he puts on his clothes is gut wrenching. Max Adler killed it in this scene, he conveyed so much with no words and you could see his thinking, his decisions play out on his face. And pairing it with “Cough Syrup” was extremely powerful, especially since Blaine sang it instead of like Rachel or Mercedes, etc. And Darren Criss went fucking hard with this song, it worked so well.

I find it really difficult to understand why the faculty at McKinley is so torn up about Karofsky’s suicide attempt and about how hard it is to be a teenager these days, but they do literally nothing about the bullying at the school. Everyone tries this bullshit phrase of “it gets better,” but you know what would help? If the adults in the situation actually tried to make things better now.

“They can send their hate anonymously!” They literally throw slashes right in people’s faces. That’s not anonymous. Fix this shit first before blaming social media

Quinn. You had a horrible experience, yes. But you had the stigma of being a pregnant teen for less than nine months. You can go to college and move on with your life. It’s not the same as being gay, because that’s forever. That’s not just something that happened for a year in high school. And while teen moms aren’t treated well, it’s not the same as the horrors of what can happen to mlm and wlw.

Kurt, honey, this was not your fault.

“I don’t ever want to be without you.” I hate this. I knew rewatching this show would be hard, but man. I didn’t know there would be so many little lines and moments that would feel like a punch to the gut knowing what happens.

Mercedes saying that she doesn’t think anyone in Glee Club would try to kill themselves is another fucking gut punch. I kind of wish I hadn’t watched this episode.

I legitimately teared up when they were all listing everything they want to see in life

But also there’s Tina, who’s just like, “Can a bitch get a storyline?”

Can we stop singing “I Believe I Can Fly”? Like, collectively. As a nation. Stop. Just stop. Again, I’m not forgiving Mark Salling’s actions or making excuses, but the show is celebrating a child rapist and that shit has to give mixed messages to someone like Mark

Why were Rachel’s dads surprised she was singing a solo? Haven’t they been paying attention for the last three seasons?

Did Finn have to sing on the balcony while Rachel sang on stage because the last time they performed they fucked it up with a kiss?

Underrated running joke in this series: the absolutely ridiculousness of the third Glee Club at competitions. Like, there’s one legit competitor (the Warblers, Vocal Adrenaline, etc) but then the third group is just a ridiculous example of untraditional glee clubs (the old people, the medival chanters, etc) and I fucking love it

From now on, I only want to be carted around in a coffin for dramatic entrances

Why is Quinn asking if Rachel was singing to anyone other than Finn? Honestly, we could have had it all with Faberry.

I cried while Kurt was helping Karofsky see how good his future could be. And I cried when they held hands, talking about how nice it would be to be friends. I know a lot of people give Karofsky shit and give his whole storyline shit, but I really really love how it was handled.

God bless Burt Hummel. Finn has been his kid for only like a year, but Burt is adamantly his father. I love it so much.

Was this a mid-series finale? Because good god, so much happened in one episode. Karofsky, Regionals, Sue’s pregnancy (I guess I can’t just ignore it, huh?), the wedding, Quinn’s accident. I think too much happened at once.

Emma roasting John Stamos, who will be her husband in about a season’s time, is golden

Will spends too much time in Emma’s office. Aren’t the students meant to have appointments? There’s no way there’s a single school in the world where the counselling service isn’t totally overwhelmed with a mile long waiting list

The “For he’s a jolly good fellow” scene is me and my sister every time we hang out

Will turning into the camera to kick off “THIS IS HOW WE DO IT” is one of the better transitions on this show, honestly

This is one of the few occasions I actually like Matt Morrison’s delivery a lot. He genuinely sounds like he has no idea how awkward this group would be to watch...

Although I’m not 100% in love with the way she implies that telling everybody in the glee club is as simple as being true to himself. He’s not ashamed, Mercedes, he’s terrified... Although I know her heart is in the right place. She just wants him to know they’ll accept him at the end of the day!

Call 📱 Faberry & Berrymen

Who: Rachel and Quinn, Leroy and Hiram Berry What: A reconnection. Where: Tingley Aquatic Park in Albuquerque, NM When: Saturday, July 1, 2017. Around 3:30 pm.

[ It had been so easy to fall into a routine again with Quinn. Smiles and laughter were no longer a rarity, and neither was spending time together. And, truth be told, it scared Rachel more than she was willing to admit, because parts of her were starting to feel whole again after so many years, and she wasn’t sure she could emotionally survive breaking apart all over again. But Rachel had to push such thoughts and worries away, and truly focus on what she had in front of her, or quite literally beside her at this moment, because their time together would come to a close soon enough.

Buzzing and a muffled melody drew Rachel’s attention away from her thoughts, and as she withdrew her phone from her pocket, she smiled as she saw her fathers’ smiling faces on her phone’s face. She swiped to accept the call. ]

RACHEL: [chirped] Hi Dad. Daddy. Dads. Are you both on speaker?

LEE: Naturally. Otherwise I’d have to take detailed notes for your worrisome daddy, sweetheart.

HIRAM: [gasp, faux offended] Worrisome, overprotective, AND devoted. Please characterize me correctly, darling.

LEE: [chuckled] Do you hear what I have to put up with? [teasing] You know your daddy’s antics have only gotten more dramatic since you moved halfway across the country.

[ There was some shuffling and static in the background, perhaps the sound of a loud smack of a kiss to a cheek. The line then cleared. ]

HIRAM: You’re still enjoying yourself, yes? [a beat] Still spending time with Quinn?

RACHEL: [unable to stop a grin from taking over] Yes aaaaand yes. Actually...

[ Rachel pulled the phone away from her and tapped the screen, turning the speaker on. ]

RACHEL: Quinn’s right here beside me.

[ Quinn had mostly forgotten all about the Berry dads and speaking to them on the phone until Rachel received the call from them as they walked from the botanical gardens to the beach at Tingley Aquatic Park. Her stomach bottomed out and she hoped Rachel maybe would forget to tell them what Quinn had said a few days ago. ]

RACHEL: She told me to tell you something the next time we spoke, but perhaps you’d like to hear it directly from her…

[ Quinn had a deer in the headlights look about her because, even though it was highly unlikely, she feared rejection from the Berry dads. She looked from the phone to Rachel then back to the phone again. ]

QUINN: [speaking near the phone, but not too close] Um. Hi…

[ All the way in Lima, dramatic to his core, Hiram’s palm pressed atop his heart and he didn’t even bother to try and hide the tears that were gathering in his eyes. Leroy swallowed down his own swell of emotion to answer, tone as warm as it was five years ago. ]

LEE: Hey there, Q-Bird.

[ For a moment, Quinn just breathed. It had been too long since she had talked to them, since she had heard that nickname. She swallowed hard as tears formed then reached forward and quickly took the phone from Rachel, bringing it closer and wishing they were doing this in person. ]

QUINN: [softly] Hey… [a pause] It’s good to hear your voice.

[ Quinn tightened her grip on the phone and turned slightly from Rachel as her tears spilled over. She cleared her throat, not wanting to sound like she had been crying. ]

QUINN: I was telling Rachel I wanted to come see you both once I’m back in Lima. If you’ll have me.

[ Silence hung in the air as Leroy shifted his attention to his husband. They had their theories about what they thought had happened, what had torn their two favorite girls apart, but being the biased parents they were, no scenario ever really painted Quinn in the best light. But if their Rachel could find it in her big heart to forgive, then they felt like it was their duty to be the supportive parents they always were and follow suit. ]

LEE: It’s been a very, very long time, Quinn--

HIRAM: [interrupting] But we’d love to see you.

[ The way Lee had started, Quinn was expecting a no, but then Hiram interrupted and a smile formed. They still liked her. Maybe even loved her, like they had before. ]

QUINN: Oh, good. [let out a breath] I’d love to see you too, both of you. I’m not sure when I’ll be back yet because I haven’t decided if I’ll fly home or ride with Finn on the bus, but as soon as I’m back, I’ll be in touch and we can pick a day and time and I’ll come to the farm and we’ll just… chat.

[ Her words had rushed out of her and she sniffled, glad that her tears had stopped. It was then that she decided once she was with them, she would come out to them, and tell them all the things she wished she had back when she was seventeen and scared. ]

LEE: We still have the same, number-- well, numbers, Q-Bird.

[ Leroy paused, pondering whether or not to add that they had always, even after all these years, just been a phone call away, but Hiram picked up where he left off first. ]

HIRAM: [teasing, smile evident even over the tininess of the speaker] We can chat while we do some farm chores.

[ Rachel had to laugh at that, because it was always an exercise in patience when trying to convince Quinn to help her out. Not because Quinn didn’t want to help, she just truly wasn’t very good at the tasks, though Rachel had always insisted that was simply because Quinn needed more practice. Practice did make perfect after all.

Quinn laughed as well. God, she missed them. She glanced at Rachel, a smile still on her face. ]

QUINN: I think I still have a doctor’s note excusing my delicate hands from such labors.

[ She had done it once, gotten a doctor's note excusing her from doing the work because she thought it would have been really funny. Quinn had to wait weeks before she got to use it but it paid off. Thinking about it now, it was still funny.

Unable to control the swell of affection at Quinn’s silliness and the way she so easily fell back into the pattern of banter with her fathers, Rachel leaned in, whispered a soft, “You’re ridiculous,” and then pressed a quick kiss to Quinn’s cheek before snagging her phone. With a quick tap, she had it back up to her ear. She signaled to Quinn that she’d just be a moment, and then stepped a few paces away for semi-privacy. ]

RACHEL: Hi. It’s just me again. [a pause] I’m quite happy you want to see her again.

HIRAM: You’re sure everything is--

RACHEL: Yes, Daddy. We’re working through our past...issues.

HIRAM: And you’re--

RACHEL: [cutting him off, because whatever he said wouldn’t matter; the answer was] Yes. I promise. I’ll send you pictures later, okay? And we’re at a Holiday Inn Express tomorrow, so we can Skype and I can tell you a lot more. In sort of person. And in private. I love you both so much.

LEE: And we love you.

HIRAM: And tell Quinn we love her.

[ It all happened so fast, Rachel speaking in her ear then the kiss to her cheek, and Quinn was glad to be shooed away because she needed a moment to recover. Her cheeks were flushed and she took deep breaths to calm herself. She had to be normal once Rachel was off the phone.

With her phone once again pocketed, Rachel turned back towards Quinn, nothing but a smile lighting up her face. “Ready?”

Quinn nodded at Rachel, then returned the smile. “Yeah,” she said softly and hesitated only a moment before taking Rachel's hand and leading her along the path. ]
