♡ My 2023 retrospective: egl version ♡ PART 2/9

During the month of February, I also bought these shoes from a normie shop to use both in lolita and in normie outfits. You'll see them again later. I think they look good in lolita coords, especially with velveteen. I also got these bracelet and ring from Etsy.

But the main event of February was the Divina Commedia tea party in Rome. It was my first international lolita tea party and I was very nervous. I had been planning my coord for one year, because it was the year I got back into lolita after a long hiatus and I had to gather all the right pieces.

The theme of the event was Dante's Divina Commedia with its heaven, hell and purgatory. My coord was inspired by Naples's cult of the souls of purgatory. I even prepared a QR code for people to scan and read this little thing I wrote about it, but only one person actually scanned it.

I went with my friends Ilaria and @saturnia-pyri, but I look bad in every photo. If I could go back in time I wouldn't wear that wig, but I would probably have the same awkward face and poses. I'm so glad I got the chance to see my friends in that occasion, though.

All in all it was a really beautiful event, it made me fall in love with this fashion even more. The clothes in the fashion show were gorgeous too. Seeing so many lolitas in one room is amazing, I loved how everyone was dressed, even the ones that were wearing other substyles that I don't usually like.

Me and my other friends also went to this cute café in Rome and we even got some macarons at the train station!

When I got back home from this wonderful trip, I was motivated to try something different from what I would normally wear.

This is an example of that. Which makes me realize that I did, in fact, wear this ETC jsk in one lolita coord: this one. It's a bit too much old school leaning for my taste, but it's still okay. March

In March I got these two things off lace market: the first one is this lovely pink AP blouse that I haven't worn yet (it was already too hot for long sleeves at the time); and the other one is this AP sailor cutsew that I did wear a couple of times, but not in a lolita coord.

March was also the month of our first meet of the year. We had a lovely picnic and visited our local botanical garden.

It is the silence that wakes Cakara. In so few days, she’d become addicted to the sound of Vee’s heart. To the feel of his pulse against her skin. His empty spot isn’t warm and their blanket was tucked tight around her until she flailed around. They’re leaving for the Rencarn operation in a few hours; she’s not surprised he left before her. Hound plans to make him alor after her; he has extra duties to see to. She wastes time stretching individual muscle groups to pretend she’s not lingering in the smell from his pillow, but in the end she gets up.

On the armor rack, her right gauntlet and vambrace are missing. She stares at the rack, then looks around the tent. Aran’s bed is cleaned and folded for transport, sitting on top of his trunk of personal effects. He’s gone ahead to scout Rencarn’s base. He’ll move into his new permanent bunk when everyone returns. Maybe taking the place of a fallen brother.

Four years isn’t long enough for Cakara to be used to the blithe acceptance of death. Even among the Silver Sisters… Yes, they fought Thryssians and other invaders, but they always won. Came back scarred, but alive. Funerals on Eshan are quiet, solemn affairs with the family in the deepest mourning blue. Mandalorians don’t have funerals. Their dead live on, eternally. Marching far away. They celebrate victories and call out the names of their lost to the stars and their ancestors. Sometimes ‘points’ are involved, but Cakara still doesn’t know what that means.

She sighs.

The tent is untouched; the same as it was when they fell asleep in each others’ arms. Pranks never involve the armor, so Vee must have the missing pieces. Is he making repairs? Cakara hadn’t noticed any cracks or flaws, but there’s an itch in the back of her mind that she might have missed something. The rest of her armor fits on without issue, though she inspects every piece and checks every electrical system. Full working order. She bites her bottom lip, a human affectation she copied from Tzali. It feels good to display her feelings. She bites her lip and makes their bed, packs her op bag and doesn’t release it until she’s leaving the tent.

“I’d go around the East side, if I were you,” Skauris says. His black and red armor is splattered with garish, yellow paint. Cakara loves it.

“What’s going on?”

“Aquila is sparking and it’s too close to show time for her to vent it properly.” Skauris laughs. “She’s so bright; I love her.”

Cakara lets her mouth match his smile. “Definitely spirited. I’ll like her more when she stops pounding me into the sand.”

Skauris winks and heads off towards the armory. Over his shoulder he calls, “Good luck with that one!”

Still smiling, Cakara skirts around the East side of the camp to the staging ground. At an intersection, she and Vee only miss collision by blood-enhanced dodges. He waves to her with her gauntlet. “Good morning.”

Cakara reaches for it, but Vee jerks it back. She puts her hands on her hips and gives him a pout so exaggerated he laughs. “Good morning. Give it.”

“Not yet. I have something else for you.” Vee removes his helmet and Cakara’s heart stutters in her chest because they’re in the middle of the camp. Anyone could walk by and see. Vee never- She dashes the thoughts because he’s holding out a small, wrapped parcel.

The plain, brown paper tears easily, revealing- Cakara can’t control the gasp or the way it chokes her. There’s nothing wrong with her armor. Vee was planning to give her… this. It’s a bracelet made of a silver-composite. The fat, flat links are engraved with the phases of the moon and music notes. She presses the full moon and the overture for The Seven Sisters plays. She can’t speak, so she just looks into Vee’s eyes: white with the slightest hint of blue.

Without looking away, he takes her hand and clasps the bracelet around her bare wrist. “You can cry, cyare. You can show your grief with your body here.”

With a sob, Cakara throws her arms around him. “I miss him, Vee. Rhion deserved so much better. If I had just-”

“Shh, it’s not your fault. Be sad, but not cruel to yourself.”

Cakara presses their foreheads together. “How did you get this?”

“I hired someone to go to Eshan. I couldn’t remember the name of Rhion’s company, so I had them just take holos of every opera house until they found the right one.”

“My parents destroyed-”

“I know. The recordings were harder to find, but I have a friend in negotiations for a copy right now.” He puts his hands on her face and wipes the tears away. “You deserved more than just memories of your brother.”

“Thank you. Ori’vor’e.” Cakara presses their cheeks together and then pulls away to admire the bracelet. She presses the full moon again and holds it to her ear, closing her eyes to remember the sound of her brother’s voice. She swallows the sadness and dries her face. Vee hands her the rest of her armor and she locks it in place, protecting the bracelet. “This means…”

“I know.” He touches the back of her elbow. Affection, respect and… I’ll be alright, even though his brother is gone, too.

She responds with another forehead touch, a soft intimacy for people covered in hard metal.

“We should get going and start loading before alor and Fox decide we should let Aquila vent after all.” Vee takes two steps toward the staging ground, but stops when he realizes Cakara isn’t following. “Do you need…?” He touched the tips of his thumbs and ring fingers together: time.

Cakara shakes her head and then touches the helmet clipped onto her belt.

Vee takes a deep breath and lets his chest visibly expand. In the direct sunlight, the hint of yellow in his hair looks like the softest blond. “Not… Today. Maybe not anymore. I… I don’t want to hate the part of me that’s also a part of you.”

I dont see this as a huge photo-op for her because its church service. She will be seated too far away from HM for it to really matter. Atleast imho. Plus she will look bored after 20 minutes. I see PH getting a little mad if they are seated front row & shes being all touchy feely. He seems to always be “serious Harry” during church service

Well, she leaked the baptism and marched the cross bracelet a few days before, so she is setting this up so that all the chatter will be about her new-found religiosity.

“I met Chloe on March 25th, 2017. It was at the HVFF in Chicago. I arrived three days before the event to have some time to explore the city on my own. When the day came I was a complete mess. I flew almost 3000 just to see her. Of course I was first in line that day.

She was a little bit late, which gave me plenty of time to get more nervous. We were expecting her to come through the black curtains. I was just talking with the staff guys (they were so nice to me) when they saw her coming behind us.

I really can’t describe how it felt to see her. She walked right pass me and suddenly I didn’t want to go first. She came with her manager and sat down and I still wouldn’t move. She was like waiting and I didn’t move. She finally told me to come over. I literally had a speech planned and all the things that I wanted to say. I brought some presents, but when I was in front of her I went totally blank.

I think I forgot my English in that moment. I managed to say some words. I introduced myself and said that I had come from Colombia and she was really surprised that I had done that. It’s true that when you’re with her she’s hyper focused on you. She grabs your hand and she looks at you, and only you and pays attention to every single thing that you say and when you’re an incoherent mess (like I was) she starts complimenting you. She grabbed my hair and said that she loved it, because she missed her long hair so much. She said that she loved my shirt (I was wearing the fight like a girl sweater) She always tries to keep the conversation flowing. One thing that struck me is that she seems to be very aware of the kind of person that is in front of her? I mean, I noticed that a few people only approached her booth to see if she was taking pictures. She had a no photos rule. I think with that she makes sure that people go there to have a special moment, not just to take selfies with some celebrity.

I think she knows how to read that love and reciprocate it when she sees that people are being honest with her. So many of us went up there so excited only to say hello, to spend some time with her. She tries to make that small moment special. I told her I had totally forgotten my English in that moment and she said that Natalia would love me, and mentioned the episode were they recruited Yoyo in Bogotá. I was mostly trying to get out all the things that I wanted to tell her, I was so nervous, but she never stopped holding my hand. She would hug me and she would thank for every nice thing that I had to say.

I forgot that I had to get her autograph so she asked if I had something for her to sign. I remembered the Daisy pop and the gifts and I got the box out of my backpack. She asked which color I wanted for the autograph and she started writing my name while I tried to find the gifts, and I couldn’t find them! I was taking so long and getting even more nervous so she got curious and started looking inside my bag. She found another pop and asked who that was. It was a gift for a friend. She had like her face in my bag and I was so clumsy trying to get the candy out of the bag. (I gave her candy from Colombia) I explained some things about it and she said that she loves treats and candy and everything sweet in general… yeah. No surprise there.

I think she was smiling at how clumsy I was the whole time. As I said, I think she really appreciates when people cares about her. I told her that I was going to come back and also see her at the photo ops and then she offered another hug and then went around the table to hug me…and she just hugs you like she means it. I mean, I know that I’m just another fan but I think she has a very special love for us and she shows it every second. In that moment she makes sure to make you feel special. She kept smiling and grabbed my hand again. I was shaking. I forgot half of the gifts, but I was incredibly happy.

Then it was the first photo op. I was like third in line. When I went in she hugged me again, called me by my name, and I was a bit more confident at that point. The photo ops are super fast and Chloe asked if I wanted a hug. I really never asked for anything because I didn’t know the rules for these things but she was always warm and nice. I mean, she doesn’t have to be like that and I think it can be exhausting for her but again, I think she tries to reciprocate the love that we show her in those brief seconds or minutes.

I got my picture and then I felt like I didn’t want to go… so I just waited until she was back in her booth and went to get the picture signed. I gave her a little bracelet and she let me put it on her wrist. I babbled some more about how much Daisy and her mean in my life. I thanked her. She hugged me again. I really lost the count on the hugs hahaha. I asked about her kids and she told me they were back at home. I said that I would see her the next day and then said goodbye.

On Sunday things were even better. I actually felt like I could talk to her like a normal person hahaha. I went back to her booth, of course (I really just spent my time there) Then I was first in line again. That day Chloe arrived around 11. When she came I started feeling a bit weird, I didn’t know if it was okay to go in so many times… but I really went to Chicago for her, so I had to make the most of it.

She sat down and said hello. I was wearing overalls and she said that she loved them. I told her that I knew, that I always wanted to try but she gave me the confidence to start buying them. She hugged me again and asked if I was going to the panel. I said of course. I told her that I had another photo op with her and she told me that she would see me there.

I kinda started feeling the withdrawals at that point… so I just lurked around her booth for the rest of the morning until it was time for the photo op (it was a duo op with Brett) that day things were a lot more organized. I was one of the last ones in line. For that photo I had a pose in mind.

It was as fast as the other one. I think when it was my turn I went straight for Chloe and forgot that Brett was there for a second haha so I quickly turned to say hi to him but never let go off Chloe hahaha. The photographer would always get annoyed… and even more when I tried to explain the pose to Chloe and Brett but they just wouldn’t get it. It was funny because they got it wrong in the exact same way the first time. Chloe kept asking and trying to show me if she was getting it, and the next thing I know her leg is like around me, and then Brett got it and I started laughing and almost ruined the photo… I’m still not totally happy with my face, but at least we had a good time for those… 30 seconds hahaha. I said thank you and apologized. Chloe said that we almost didn’t get it… and then I started to feel like I didn’t want to say goodbye. I hugged her and then left because I took too long and the ops guys hated me already. On my way out I was like… shit Brett! And then hugged Brett. I think they both were laughing the whole time about my clumsiness. So that was a bit of a mess but a good kind of mess.

But then I picked my photo… I didn’t turn out that bad, and I realized that I had to do something else. I mean, I was already there. So I ran back to the table and got the last ticket for the next op. I ended back in line. The last person for the Chloe solo op. I’m so glad I went back. When I entered again I asked if she was getting tired of me. She received me with open arms and said that she never would. She peeked outside and when she realized that I was the last person she told me “best for last!” and grabbed my hand to take me to the center of the booth. She asked if I had anything in mind so I just told her to make faces. When they took the pic she quickly told me that she would say that she messed up, and then told the photographer that she had messed up and to take another one. So they took another picture, and I made the same face like the idiot I am. The thing is… every time she would do something nice my brain would stop working so I had nothing in that moment. I kinda wanted to cry.

So that’s exactly what I did. I didn’t know if that was going to be my last personal moment with her so I started thanking her for everything, again. I told her that I was glad I took the very irresponsible decision to fly to Chicago in the last minute. She thanked me for doing it and yes… more hugs. I got some time while the next celeb took Chloe’s place in the booth so I told her that I wanted to say goodbye and she told me to go to her autograph table again. I told her that she was my hero. I felt like a guy was about to take me out so I gave her one last hug and left.

Next it was the panel. You all know how that went. It was hilarious. I was really close to them but then went back to be closer to the mic line. I did get to ask a question about Daisy. At that point we didn’t know if the show was going to be renewed and I also started thinking that maybe this was going to be the only time that I got to see her. I was happy with the things I told her. I was happy to see with my own eyes how nice and honest in the way she interacts with people that she is, but it was heartbreaking to think that only had like a few minutes more to see her.

So yes. I went back one last time to the autograph table… Actually I waited for HOURS to be the last one to go. Since I had become such good friends with the staff they just let me be there. At the end I got to hang on the table where they had the pile of photos for Chloe to sign, right next to her table. That’s when the funniest thing happened. I see a huge, Asian guy come out from the back, He came to the table where I was and started looking through the photos. So I went like…”Mr Bennet?” He said yes with a smile. I introduced myself and told him my name and when he heard it (and probably my accent) he said that I was the girl that came from Colombia, that Chloe had told him about me. I died in that moment… for the tenth time in two days. It was almost my turn so I just told him that he had the most amazing daughter in the world. That she’s important for so many people and women, that she was amazing and for me it was worth it to take such a trip just to tell her that. He went full proud dad mode in that second and told me that she really was, and just the way she was here with her fans she was at home. He told me that she really appreciated me being there, and all the people that support her. He thanked me and said that she probably would have something special to say to me.

I went back. I really don’t know what was going through her manager’s head at that point, but Chloe looked happy. I went like: “I just met your dad” She was like oh no, what did he say? He’s talking to the fans now? I just told her that we just agreed that she’s the best. She took one of the other pictures that I was carrying to sign it while we spoke. I thanked her for everything she did. I told her that it meant a lot. I really don’t remember how we got to her birthday, but I wished her a happy birthday and told her that mine was coming up too. She wished me a happy birthday. I was trying really hard not to cry in front of her, but I told her that I really meant all the things that I had told her, and that it might seem like just a tv show, or a fictional character… but it really makes a difference in the lives of so many people. She knows, she works her ass off to brig Daisy to us and she loves every second of it. She thanked me and hugged me and she wouldn’t let go off my hand while I told her.

Then she eyed my iphone on the table. She asked if I wanted a selfie. I turned to check if there were people in line and actually some people arrived after me so I just looked back at her, but she was grabbing my phone and she told the others that it was because my photo op came out wrong. She told me that I had come all the way here, that I should get one. I just nodded and she was already going though my phone and opening the camera app. She took a pic, and then I said that my hair was terrible, so she just took another one. She didn’t look like uncomfortable or like she had to do it. She really wanted to make that moment special. I think she wants that for all her fans and I think that it’s important not to pressure her to sign things and take pictures on do things. She’s a person just like us, she could be tired or having a bad day, but she’ll offer something special to make you happy if she can. She wouldn’t stop thanking me and I told her that I was happy that I got to see her one last time. Then I saw her manager check her watch and I think I said it out loud because Chloe laughed. She got out of the table again to hug me and that’s when I broke. I told her that I didn’t know if I would get to see her again, but that she had made everything so special that I would always treasure these days. She told me that we would see each other again and I told her that we didn’t even know what was going to happen with AoS and that I just needed Daisy in my life. I told her that it would kill me (Don’t judge me. I was a mess in that moment) she was like noo! Don’t die! Hahaha She said that she was going to do new things.

In the end she just hugged me and thanked me for coming. I waited until she left and waved her goodbye. I actually didn’t cry when she left hahah I think maybe I’ll get to see her again. Now I know that going there was totally worth it and I would definitely do it again.”

Kagoshima Port area looking towards the City

Saturday 2 March

Manage to get internet for 24 hours to check up on Mel who had an op in Liverpool yesterday but not able to Skype or FaceTime as signal too poor. At least she is well and in the capable hands now of Flic, for a week.

Sorting through emails etc using up what internet time we have it is surprising what junk we get in the way of emails.

Sunday 3 March

More port talks and talks on aeroplanes but we don’t do too much today. Watch “The First”, a film about Neil Armstrong, the first man to step onto the moon. An interesting character, did he stay with his wife and did he really let go into space his dead daughter’s bracelet?

Watford’s game against Leicester was televised live so I missed the musical entertainment tonight which was worthwhile as Watford won 2-1 with a last minute winner.

One poor sole has to be helicoptered off the ship as a medical emergency although the announcement at 10pm said at 02:30 the following morning, then another announcement at 05:45 said now but it wasn’t until about 7am the following day they were taken off to the American Air base at Guam as there obviously wasn’t anywhere to help in the Caroline Islands which we had just been through.

The route had obviously had to be changed to get us nearer to Guam. Not sure of the holiday insurance situation if we hadn’t been planning to go to the US!

Monday 4 March – Wednesday 6 March

Sal still has the virus with restless, sleep interrupted nights and lack of energy during the day. We both still get to some interesting talks but the Headliners show on the Monday is exactly the same as it had been on previous cruises – it needs a revamp and a Tom Jones tribute performer really wasn’t up to singing.

In contrast a German flute and Guitar duo, Im Duo ( Eva Frick on Flute and Ruben Fischer on guitar) were very competent and listenable to.

Kagoshima Port

Thursday 7 March

Land at last, Kagoshima in Japan and our first venture to Japan.

We had a bit of a bumpy ride with a Force 9 overnight so are glad of the shelter of the harbour.

Kagoshima is situated on Kyushu island and is ideally situated for trade with the outside world although of course goods have to get here from the rest of Japan first.

The port itself is on the South East corner of the island and is some way inland from the open sea but nevertheless, navigable with our ship with the backdrop of the impressive Mount Sakurajima, an occasionally active volcano which this morning is covered in mist, so is barely visible.

A welcome party of flag wavers greets us and we get through immigration with ease and experience the efficiency of the Japanese before our tour to what appears to be the only two attractions in an otherwise bustling industrial town.

It is considerably colder here than we have experienced so far with a bit of a wind to keep the temperatures down so it’s long trousers and jumpers for today.

A few people with flags welcoming us in their broken English as we exit from the immigration centre.

Both stops on our tour are over the other side of town through a lot of traffic outside of the tram lines all of which have manicured grass growing around the rails.

One of the other sights to see is the volcano, Mount Sakurajima which still is active albeit in a grumbling state.

Sadly, cloud still covers this in the morning until later in the day when it does more or less become visible although no volcanic activity visible.

No ancient houses on our route to the Sengan-en Gardens although the city itself has history dating back many centuries from the Satsuma era when it was ruled by the Shimadzu clan and the Edo period which lasted about 700 years.

It is said that the Japanese industrial revolution was started in the city and is famous (infamous) for the British bombardment of the City in August 1863 which was part of the Anglo-Satsuma War.

The Sengan-en (or ISO) Gardens are not your traditional Western Gardens as they have little colour at this time of the year but are traditional Japanese gardens.

Sadly we are a few weeks too soon for the blossom trees as only a few are in bloom at this early stage of the year but some beautifully manicured small trees, rather like overgrown Bonsai trees are evident as well as some water features with small bridges.

The gardens have in the past been visited by Edward VIII and Nicholas II of Russia.

We are first of all taken inside the small museum but no photography is allowed.

Although the description of items is in many languages, the English is quite small writing and coupled with the tour guide’s very broken English and largish party, understanding what was there was at times difficult.

We were able to see, however, some machinery imported from Britain including one item made in Oldham in the late 1800’s.

Moving on to the gardens, there is little time to see all of it especially if, as we did, we wanted to go around the house which was an extra Y300 each to enter.

This is laid out as it would have been in the late 19th Century and was the home of the influential Shimadzu family.

The rooms looked quite spacious but very minimalist and of course, the bed is on the floor.

Back on the coach we are taken to an observation point above the city which would have been good for views of Mount Sakurajima but the mist was still covering it. We were able to get wi-if there though!

Back to our ship but not really enough time to go ashore again before we sail with a traditional Japanese band playing on the quay and at last a reasonably decent view of Mount Sakurajima.

Our first visit to Japan was a good one and we look forward to tomorrow’s visit at Nagasaki.

Lizards & Dragons: Cowboys & Indians OP

Happy Birthday @julayla

As the opening starts, we see the rising sun in the desert as four figures on horseback approaches on high gallop. When the camera goes for a full close-up on the figures, revealing to be riding on large raptors and one being a giant wolf as the lead figure, upon closer look to reveal the figure to be a gray lizard with blue-black hair and yellow eyes as he fires his pistol at the camera as the show titles appear over the old drawn maps of Mewni. When the chorus begins, it shows the gray lizard wearing dark clothing with his long jacket being tattered and reaper-like glancing at the wanted poster of himself on a wall as he walks away. Next, a large green lizard with a scar over his right eye that is closed with his right arm being large gun-shaped arm cannon that is covered in bandages to hide it from view as the lizard looks at an old picture showing himself and the gray lizard with two females before he closes it. The next scene shows a cowboy lizard woman with blue-gray scales and black hair with cyan streaks polishing her rapiers as a magenta dragon girl with cyan horns chants a Native American prayer at the fire.

They fired, the bullets and arrow shattering the darkness to reveal past events that happened alongside the silhouettes of a blonde girl with heart cheek markings, a Hispanic boy, a regal blue-haired woman with diamond cheek markings, an elegant woman with dark green hair and spade cheek markings, a blue troll in Native American clothing set with headdress, a red humanoid monster man with four eyes and wearing Native American clothing and finally shadows of a crazy-smiling woman with pigtails and wearing a calvary uniform standing proudly on a stand as steampunk robots marched with swords in hand.

Toffee stood in his gun drawing position as his cape waved behind him as the name "Toffee the Grim Reaper" appears across his face, the scene freezing and flashing bright green. Rasticore yells out as he aims his gun arm cannon at a group of enemies, the bandages unwrapping themselves to reveal his weapon before he fires a powerful blast as the name "Wild Arm Rasticore the Kid" appears across his face, the scene freezing and flashing red. Miseria and Kandy, riding on the backs of a large blue raptor and a giant wolf, shouts out with the lizardwoman firing her twin pistols at the incoming bandits before she threw her guns away and pulling out twin rapiers as she leaps off her raptor, lunging to slash at them as the scene freezes and flashes blue, the name "Shark-Toothed Miseria" appears across her face before the scene unfreezes and the color returns to normal as Kandy conjures black fire and ice in both hands before she unleashes them onto an army with her breathing fire as the scene freezes and flashed yellow, her name "Kanashimi/Kandy/Wolfflower" appears across her face.
