#personal#saltblogging#this is a queued post losers#i reblogged a post a while back highlighting the parallels of the dursleys and malfoys#(lol this post has been in my drafts since i reblogged that post)#and that plus other things ive observed in fandom over the years really just affirms in my mind that#the malfoys are inherently treated as redeemable but the durlseys arent#bc the dursleys are painted as fat in ugly (in the case of vernon and dudley at least)#i hate the dursleys they are evil and bad#but the malfoys engage in the same cruelties that the dursleys do#even worse see: lucious belonging to a genocidal organization#but the hp fandom has spent 20 years excusing the malfoys#while they have made the dursleys even worse then they were in canon#(mainly w fat vernon being the most actively evil while skinny petunia gets redemption narratives or excuses for her culpability)#im just interest in what fandom would be like if the malfoys and dursleys stayed the exact same#but changed appearances#no difference in action or anything#or even just changing it so draco is fat and dudley isnt#esp bc there are so many parallels#like the father never being redeemed from his bigotry#the son being indicated to have room to grow past their learned bigotry#(w dudley even getting in-narrative growth while draco is just like ~vague acknowlegment in epilogue~#and the mother being good to harry in narrative in the final book for greedy reasons#(point in this one does go to narcissa bc she actually /does something for harry/ even tho no indications that she actually changes forever)
