Reading stats for 2023 & favorite reads of the year - Fanfiction Editon

This is the first year I have tracked my fanfiction reading, which I started in June, which means it’s not one 100% but I think still pretty good due to the fact that I mostly read on ao3 and the history feature is great! This is because I discovered the fanfiction challenge! And I am looking forward to the 2023 challenge and follow it from the start.

Some stats to start off:

I read 11,931,924 words! 422 different fics, 67 fandoms and 173 unique ships!

Read on for my favorite fics of the year, and more statistics about type of fics, most popular fics and fandom and other fun facts!

By number of fics read my most popular fandom was Harry Potter. I read 41 different Harry Potter fics last year, and my most popular pairing for that fandom was Harry/Ginny. 9 of the fics had Harry & Ginny as the main pairing.

Second most read by according to number of fics was Glee, with 39 total fics, and Rachel/Quinn being my most popular pairing, with 21 fics where that was the main pairing as well as being a secondary pairing in another 4 fics.

In third place we have Critical Role, which means that I do atleast have one fandom that is still producing new content that I consume (sorry HP but fantastic beast is not my canon!). I read 35 different Critical Role fics, mainly campaign one and two. My main pairing I read was essek/caleb, with 4 fics, as well as 4 fics without romantic pairings.

Overall by most fics read, my most popular pairing was a tie between regina/emma (once upon a time) and rachel/quinn with 21 fics each!

If we look at by number of words read, my most popular fandom was Harry Potter with 1 836 237 words read. Second most, accord to words, was Glee, with 1 637 214 words. And in third place, we have The 100, with 1 046 514 words read.

In terms of ships, quinn/rachel win out by a fairly large margin. Nearly 10 percent of all words read was quinn/rachel, with a total of 1 14 9513 words total read. Jess/Rory (Gilmore Girls) comes in second with 990 554 words read. In third place is Harry/Ginny with 736 903 words. I also read 799 501 words of fics without a romantic pairing.

Longest fic read was of queens, kings and pawns by chancecraz which is a star wars time travel fix it fic, which focuses on a post-the force awakens leia being sent back to the day she woke on the death star.

When it comes to type of fic, i mostly read canon divergence, with 143 fics qualifying under this type. When it comes to number of words, the most popular type of fic was still canon divergence, but followed very closely by time travel fix its and modern aus.

23 percent of all fics were re-reads of old(er) favorites, aka fics that I had read prior to this year.

And now, my top ten fics I read last year, (in no particular order and also some of these are series because this is my list and i make the rules and sometimes its just two unconnected series because i wanted to)!

1. of queens, kings and pawns by chancecraz

I went to sleep on the worst day of my life and woke to find myself in the past on the second worst day of my life. As experiences go, I don’t recommend it. (leia-centric, han/leia)

This fic is INCREDIBLE. The world building is spot on, the character voices are spot on, leia being a reluctant force user, and the darth vader of it all is so good. It’s a WIP and might never be finished, but still totally worth it. It’s a long one tho.

2. The Changeling + The Armistice Series by Annerb

Ginny is sorted into Slytherin. It takes her seven years to figure out why. (ginny centric, hints of harry/ginny)

+ The thing about war is that it never ends. Not really. The battlefields just change locations. Harry and Ginny after the war. (harry/ginny)

The redemption of slytherin, the power of female friendship and also this is just such an incredible character study for ginny. The sequels are also fantastic, and the way the ginny & harry relationship unfolds is worth it alone.

3. lux et veritas and distilla trust by peterstank

He stops, so she does too, albeit with a bit less grace. Then he grabs the sleeve of her coat and gently tugs her toward a bench with a quiet, “C’mere,” and it’s stupid, it’s ridiculous, but it gives her goosebumps. “Sit down, it’s gonna snow.”

Rory’s breath catches in her throat. Absurdly, ridiculously, she thinks: oh no. Dares to ask, “How can you tell?” and sincerely hopes his answer is something sarcastic and obvious like I checked the forecast this morning, how else?

Instead: “I can smell it. Sit.”

“You brought a book?”

“Like you didn’t.”

She concedes the point and digs a paperback out of her clutch—Austen’s Persuasion, a good choice. Jess displays his own masticated copy of Tobias Wolff’s Old School, which feels like a consistently fitting read when encased within the two-hundred year old hallowed halls of Chilton Preparatory. The book’s cover is hanging on by Scotch tape and a prayer, and half the pages are creased with undone dog ears.

“Man, we’re a couple of anti-social freaks,” Rory declares.

Jess grins. “Just call me Thomas Pynchon.”

First of all, all of peterstanks jess/rory stuff is AMAZING. Like out of this world, maybe some of the best stuff I’ve ever read amazing. But I am super weak for these two AUs and how Jess’s character elvoves in these two very different circumstances. I change my mind about which of these two are my favorite every single time I reread any of them, and like if you ship Literati, these are a MUST.

4. Quality Ingredients by HurricaneJane

Executive Chef Lexa "The Commander" Woods is working in her latest establishment in her home town of Portland, Maine. She is about to start conceptualizing her next restaurant and only has one rule for herself during the process: No more girls. When an accident at the restaurant lands her in Dr. Clarke Griffin's ER, she second guesses why she ever had that rule in the first place. Lexa's head bartender, Lincoln, is obsessed with a divey restaurant on the other side of town run by Octavia. It doesn't take long for the small town to get even smaller when Lexa starts running into Clarke everywhere. Maybe rules were meant to be broken. (Clarke/Lexa, side Lincoln/Octavia)

This is my all time favorite the 100 fic, and I honestly can’t really put my finger on why. It has pretty much zero angst, so much good food, the characters feels right even in this setting, and just this fic gives me so many happy feelings.

5. Take these broken wings (series) by celaenos

Begins in Season one and follows Quinn through her life should she have chosen to keep Beth, realize she is gay, and fall in love with Rachel Berry.

I read a lot of Faberry, like a lot, and this is one of two fics (the other one reccomended below) that I constantly return to. It has everything I want from my faberry fic, with the added benefit of quinn/sam friendship and an absolutely adorable beth. it’s a very interesting look at quinn and how keeping beth would have changed her experiences and choices in the show. just give it a try, you won’t regret it.

6. the art of boxes by possibilist

'Quinn thinks of gardenias growing through her eyes, and she thinks thinks of her childhood jewelry box: open it slowly enough, and the ballerina would spin for what seemed like forever.' College!Faberry as promised. Follows canon up through s3

First of all, all of possibilists writing is gorgeous, and if you don’t hate reading seccond person pov stories, i also highly recommend all of her one shots in her series where quinn is diagnosed with bipolar disorder, which can be found on ffnet. But art of boxes if just so beautiful, written in third person, and is such a beautiful interpretation of a post-season 3 faberry. like quinn makes so much sense, their relationship develops so naturally, and quinn’s relationship with both her mom and franny in this one makes my heart sing.

7. the leftover you by beatperfume

Isabelle Lightwood is having a rough start to her senior year. Her brothers have moved out, leaving her alone with her parents as their relationship falls apart. She’s questioning her commitment to ballet just as she’s supposed to be preparing her auditions for ballet academies. She doesn’t need beautiful and talented Clary Fray making her life even more complicated. (izzy/clary)

i’ve never read much shadowhunter fanfiction before, but this one just stole my heart completely. i am a sucker for ballet!aus, and this one is just so beautiful. izzy feels so right and her friendship then romance with clary is just everything. also has great izzy/alec feels. (trigger warning for eating disorders/disordered eating, abusive parents and drug abuse)

8. after laughter (series) by palaces_outofparagraphs

the girls in the years after the finale, dealing with the inevitable trauma after being stalked and tortured on and off for ten years. starts off at age 26, 3 years post-finale; will probably skip around. probably aria- and spencer-centric; a lot of spoby; absolutely no ezria.

this fic series is everything that i wanted the post time jump to be even if it’s set after the finale. it’s all about the girls (focusing on spencer) healing from their trauma and what that means for them, and how to exist in the world after all of it. and like it’s so good. my favorites are “half-empty girl” which deals with spencer & alison and is really really good and “aria.” in which aria realizes that stalking isn’t romance, and seducing a sixteen year old can never be a good thing. but the whole series is worth it.

9. met you at the right time by bookglue

Rory Gilmore—single, unemployed, technically homeless, and pregnant—comes unstuck in time. Bouncing between significant and not-so-significant moments in her life, she tries to determine when and how her careful plans went wrong. With some help from an ex-boyfriend. (jess/rory)

I am a sucker for time travel fix its, but this is one of the more unique ones i have ever read, not as much fix it, but still in the same vein. mostly, it’s just really good and i don’t want to spoil anything because the journey is everything in this fic, so just read it please.

10. done with my graceless heart by prettypony

After seven year old Henry starts asking one too many questions, Regina realizes the only way forward is to find Emma Swan and break the curse over Storybrooke. The town’s clock will start, everyone will wake up, and perhaps they’ll be so grateful for her change of heart that they’ll decide not to execute her right away.

And if not, at least her son will have a mother. Even if it isn’t her.

this fic was so surprising and at the same time just made so much sense, because really how did henry make it to ten without realizing none of his friends aged? it’s really beautiful, it’s wonderful redemption story for regina, and the romance between emma and regina happens really naturally. just a wonderful fic.

omg guys i just found out i might get vaccinated for covid soon! tomorrow will be starting the first day in sweden of vaccinating health care workers, and since i’ll be working at the emergencies at one of the worst affected hospitals in the country i might be vaccinated as early as tomorrow! i thought i’d have to wait months like everyone else because the original plan was to vaccinate everyone over 70 before ANY healthcare workers, but politicians have finally seen reason!

The CU34G2X from AOC is a 34″ ultra-wide with an aspect ratio of 21:9, a resolution of 3440 x 1440, a 1 ms response time, and a refresh rate of 144 Hz. The CU32G2X has a vertical alignment or VA panel that is back-lit by white light-emitting diodes, or WLEDs. The VA panel on the CU32G2X has a dynamic contrast ratio of 80M:1. The CU32G2X has a viewing angle of 178/178° and sports 16.7 million colors. The stand on the CU34G2X does both swivel and tilt. The Stand for the CU34G2X is made prominently out of plastic, aside from the part that attaches to the actual monitor. But more on that later. The Yellow USB 3.2 (Gen 1) port is an always-on port. So, as long as the USB A to B cable is connected to your PC, even when the PC is off, this port will have power. AOC describes the CU34G2X as having a frame-less bezel. Unlike traditional monitors that have a bezel around the screen, the panel on the CU34G2X goes directly to the edge. So, if you were to pair two or more of these monitors together, there wouldn’t be a large gap between monitors. But, there is only so much to say about the outside of a monitor. So, let’s get into the initial assembly.

Assembly

This section will consist of assembling the actual monitor. The assembly of the CU34G2X is rather straight forward. The base has four feet. Two small feet on the back and two large feet on the front. In the center of the base, there are two metal nipples, for lack of a better word. In the center, you can see the tip of a bolt that will attach the stand to the arm.

The center of the base has a red ring around the part that swivels. This is the part that attaches to the actual monitor. there are two metal clips at the top of the plate, and two plastic clips at the bottom. The plastic clips are what snaps the monitor on to the stand. On the back of the mounting plate, there is a release switch for the monitor stand.

Now that our CU34G2X is assembled, its time to get into the OSD, or on-screen display.

On-Screen Display

I’ll admit, I never, ever go into the OSD, or on-screen display for any monitor I buy. I generally find them annoying and tedious to use. I am still holding out hope that someone will put out a monitor with a remote. That being said, the OSD for the CU34G2X from AOC wasn’t difficult to navigate at all. My one complaint on the OSD is I have a hard time seeing the icons on the bezel. But, that is due to my poor eyesight. However, my camera can see them. So, going from right to left, there is first a light that indicates power. If the monitor is on, the light will be in. Next, there is a power button. For the actual OSD controls, there is the Menu button, that brings up the OSD, the scroll right and scroll left buttons, and the Go Back, or return button.

Before we get into the OSD, there are a couple of quick menus that can be brought up with the touch of a button. Pressing the “Go Back” button for the OSD will bring up the input selection menu. Pressing the left arrow button will bring up gaming mode. Pressing it again when the Game Mode box is on the screen, it will allow you to scroll through the different game modes. Pressing the right arrow will put a crosshair on the center of the screen. Now, on to the menu.

When using the OSD for the CU34G2X, the fist section the menu will open to is Luminance. In this section, you can adjust settings such as contrast, brightness, and Gamma. Here is where you can also enable modes such as ECO Mode, DCR, and HDR mode.

The next section on the OSD is the Color Set-Up section. Here, you can set the color temperature. You can also enable DCR, or Dynamic Contrast Ratio mode, as well as enable the DCR demo. Enabling the DCR demo will initiate a split-screen mode. One side with DCR enabled and the other with it disabled. This is more meant for when the monitor is on display at say a retailer like Best Buy or Microcenter. Also in color setup, you and adjust the RGB levels. By this I mean the red, green, and blue levels on the display. Not RGB lighting, The RGB levels can only be adjusted when the color temp is in User Mode.

The picture boost section has an option called Bright Frame. This allows you to create a picture frame of sorts in any position on the monitor, at any size. Inside the picture frame you create, you can control the brightness and contrast of that section of the screen, separately from the rest of the screen.

The OSD settings allow you to adjust the settings of the On-Screen Display. you can adjust everything from position to transparency. You can also switch between several different languages including English, French, and Spanish just to name a few. a full list is in the Specifications section of this review. There is also an option to adjust the volume of the audio output, as well as the timeout of the OSD. I wish I had played with that one before trying to take pictures of the OSD.

The PIP, or Picture in Picture menu allows you to set up just that, the picture in picture feature. It allows you to select from the four inputs, what one you want as the main display, and what one you want as the secondary display. You can select from three different sizes, small, medium, and large. You can enable or disable the audio as well and select the position you want the secondary display.

The Gaming section is where you can customize your CU34G2X for gaming. Here you can enable game mode. Game mode will lower your response time, but usually at the cost of image quality. But not that much. The gaming settings also have shadow control, game color, and MBR, or Motion Blur Reduction sliders. You can also enable Adaptive Sync, Pixel Overdrive, and LowBlue modes in the Gaming section. But, my favorite feature in the Gaming Settings has to be the FPS counter that can be enabled.

The final section of the OSD is the Extras section. here you can select the different inputs, reset all settings, and set an off timer. Now, let’s get into my personal experience with the CU34G2X from AOC.

Testing a monitor is unlike testing say a graphics card. It isn’t much different I’d do from my day to day uses as most of the experience is very subjective. However, there is a process for everything. So, the first step once the monitor was set up and ready was to calibrate the screen using the Spider5 calibration tool and the Spider5 Express software as that’s what came with the actual tool. Once Spider 5 Express was installed, we placed the sensor on the screen, and it took about 4 or 5 minutes to calibrate as the screen changed to several different colors.

Once the CU34G2X from AOC was calibrated, it was time to get to the real-world testing. Now, I’ve been using the CU34G2X for about a month and a half. I previously had a 34″ ultra-wide that I sent an umbrella stand through. When it came time to replace it, I ended up with a 32″ 144 Hz screen in its place. I have felt empty ever since. Until the CU34G2X hit my desk. Now, for gaming, an ultra-wide is a great option. However, the benefits of an ultra-wide go far beyond just gaming. Originally, I had a 3 27″ 1080p monitors and I used to game in surround. When I first started writing reviews, I opted for an ultra-wide simply so I could include 3440 x 1440 resolution in my gaming results. Then, I started getting into editing in Photoshop and Premiere Pro. No, it wasn’t Photoshop that made me fall in love with this monitor as I have a 10-Bit 4k monitor for editing pictures and the CU34G2X is only an 8-bit panel. It wasn’t even gaming, but Premiere Pro. I forgot how great it is to have all that extra screen space dedicated to my timeline.

With a 1 ms response time and 144 Hz refresh rate, the CU34G2X was designed with gaming in mind. and it does an excellent job in-game. The 144 Hz refresh rate gives you buttery-smooth game play. But, depending on the game, there are random dips here and there. So, I enabled adaptive sync as well as the on-screen frame counter. Adaptive sync dynamically adjusts the refresh rate to match the refresh rate of the GPU. The CU34G23X is the first monitor I’ve ever tested that has adaptive sync. I have Freesync monitor sure, but I’ve never had a GPU that supports FreeSync. So, I had never really used adaptive sync before, until testing the CU34G2X. I was so impressed with how well adaptive sync works. It kept even RDR2 running at 144 Hz and it looked amazing. We decided to add in some gaming benchmarks for the RTX 2080 Waterforce in amazing 3440 x 1440 resolution, at 144 Hz and adaptive sync off.

All games were tested at their highest preset. in 3440 x 1440 resolution. The system we used consisted of an i7-9700k, AORUS RTX 2080 Waterforce, and 16 GB of AORUS RGB memory running at 3600 MHz. The two best performing games were Strange Brigade in Vulcan and Wolfenstein Young Blood. Strange Brigade in Vulcan averaged 104 frames per second on the RTX 2080 Waterforce in 3440 x 1440 resolution. Wolfenstein Young Blood was second with an average of 102 frames per second. Strange Brigade in DX12 was next with an average of 88 frames per second. Far Cry New Dawn and Far Cry 5 were both close in averages. Far Cry New Dawn averaged 76 frames per second and Far Cry 5 averaged 74. Shadow of the Tomb Raider was next on our list with an average of 57 frames per second followed by Deus Ex with an average of 51 frames per second. Red Dead Redemption 2 in Vulcan averaged 49 frames per second. In DX12, Red Dead Redemption 2 tied with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey with an average of 46 Frames Per Second. Now with all that being said, enabling adaptive sync the built-in frame counter was always at 144 Hz in any game I played. Except for one. My absolute favorite experience with the CU34G2X from AOC had to be playing modded Skyrim in 3440 x 1440 resolution. Although the game doesn’t support a 21:9 aspect ratio, it can be tweaked in the INI files of the game to support 3440 x 1440 resolution. and it looks great. But this was the one game that the frame counter was locked at 100. Without adaptive sync, Skyrim usually stays locked at 60 frames per second, or at least won’t go higher than 60 frames per second.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

Overall, I can’t say enough good about the CU34G2X from AOC. I’ve owned other ultra-wide monitors before. However, this is the first time I’ve had a 34″ ultra-wide with a 144 Hz refresh rate in my office. I remember now why I originally switched from a triple screen set up to a single ultra-wide. The CU34G2X offers an amazing and immersive gaming experience. The curved screen offers better viewing angles than a flat version would and it just looks better than any flat screen I own. For an 8-it panel, the CU34G2X offers very vivid and bright colors, as well as deep, dark blacks. This makes the CU34G2X a great option for gamers who also do some editing on the side. For a YouTuber who is just uploading twitch streams or talking head videos, the colors on the CU34G2X are more than good enough for editing both video and even stills. Now, if you edit on a more professional level and get into color grading, then this probably isn’t the monitor for you. But again, this is a gaming monitor, not a professional one.

Games ran great on the CU34G2X. The gaming features on this monitor are plenty. One feature I never expected to use was the picture in picture feature. This was a very useful feature, especially when bench-marking. When running benchmarks, I won’t run anything else on that system in case it messes up the benchmark. So, having a picture in picture was great. I had two computers hooked up to the CU34G2X and when I was running benchmarks, I could still watch YouTube or and my benchmark on the same screen. It’s the little things in life. This was my first experience with adaptive sync and I fell in love with it. It is one of those features that you can’t go back to not using once you experience it. When my previous ultra-wide broke, I just couldn’t afford to drop another $1000 on a 34″ ultra-wide. So, I’ve put it off for a very long time. Generally, the features I am personally looking for in an ultra-wide would run between $700 and $1000. But, the MSRP of the CU34G2X from AOC when it officially launches on May 12, 2020, is only USD 449.99. That is an amazing price for the number of features AOC crammed into this 34″ ultra-wide. The CU34G2X is the ultra-wide monitor I have been waiting for for a very long time. Try it out, you won’t be disappointed!

One of the biggest hurdles to mass adoption of drones is the numerous regulations that restrict what drone owners and operators can do. In the U.S., the Federal Aviation Administration has several regulations that have hindered drone market growth.

The most prevalent of these restrictions is the one colloquially known as the "line of sight rule," which mandates that drone operators keep the unmanned aircraft within eye shot at all times. This clearly removes any potential application for drones in the delivery space, as the need to keep a drone in line of sight at all times defeats the purpose of sending off a drone to drop off a product at a consumer's home.

But there are different FAA drone regulations for commercial use and for recreational use. Recreational drone laws are in some ways more lax than commercial ones, but the line of sight remains pivotal (more on these laws later).

Drone Pilot License

"Do I need a license to fly a drone?" It's one of the most common questions prospective drone owners ask.

To act as a remote pilot for drones in accordance with FAA regulations, a person must obtain a remote pilot certificate. Those interested must pass a test at an FAA-approved Knowledge Testing Center (list of locations available here). Note that most Knowledge Testing Centers charge approximately $150 to those who want to take the initial exam.

After one passes the test, he or she must complete the FAA Airman Certificate and/or Rating Application (known as IACRA) to receive a remote pilot certificate. Applications are typically validated within 10 days. Applicants then receive instructions for printing a temporary airman certificate, which is valid for 120 days. The FAA mails a permanent Remote Pilot Certificate within that 120-day window.

Those who fail the exam can retake it after 14 days.

Drone Registration

The FAA recently released a list of drone registrations by state for both "hobbyists" and "non-hobbyists." You can view the full data sets here (it includes breakdowns by city, as well) but we've provided a rundown of the hobbyist information below. Note that this information is as of May 12, 2016 at 12:50 PM EST.

FAA Laws & Regulations

As a prospective drone owner, you might be asking "Do I need to register my drone?"

Fortunately, the FAA has outlined a series of guidelines related to drone operation through Public Law 112-95, Section 336 – Special Rule for Model Aircraft, as well as Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulation (14 CFR) Part 107. The table below outlines the differences for recreational and commercial use.

In addition the federal laws, several states have enacted drone regulations of their own. Here's a breakdown of drone regulations by state:

Arkansas: Act 293 forbids the use of drones to invade privacy and commit video voyeurism. Act 1019 forbids the use of drones for surveillance of "critical infrastructure."

California: Civil Code Section 1708.8 forbids the use of drones to record another person without their consent.

Colorado: N/A

Connecticut: N/A

Delaware: N/A

Florida: Criminal Code Section 934.50 forbids the use of drones for surveillance that violates another person's reasonable expectation of privacy. This includes law enforcement, however police can use drones with a valid search warrant.

Georgia: N/A

Hawaii: Act 208 created a drone test site advisory board, along with a chief operating officer to oversee the site.

Idaho: N/A

Illinois: 20 ILCS 5065 created the Unmanned Aerial System Oversight Task Force Act charged with regulating commercial and private drones. These regulations include landowners' rights, operational safety, and privacy rights.

Indiana: N/A

Iowa: N/A

Kansas: N/A

Kentucky: N/A

Louisiana: La. Revised Statutes, section 3.41, et seq. regulates drone use for agricultural purposes and mandates that operators be licensed and registered, with renewals every three years.

Maine: Sec. 1. 25 MRSA Pt. 12 mandates that law enforcement agencies obtain approval before acquiring drones and lays out other rules for police use, such as warrant requirements.

Maryland: Section 14-301 establishes the state's power over local authorities to create laws that regulate drone operation.

Massachusetts: N/A

Michigan: Mich. Compiled Laws Section 324.40112 forbids the use of drones to interfere with hunters, and Mich. Compiled Laws Section 324.40111c forbids the use of drones to locate, hunt, trap, or catch animals.

Minnesota: N/A

Mississippi: Miss. Code Section 97-29-61 forbids the use of drones to spy on another person inside a building.

Missouri: N/A

Montana: N/A

Nebraska: N/A

Nevada: Amendments 362, 640, and 746 officially define drones as aircraft, which regulates drone operations. This law also prohibits weapons on drones and forbids the use of drones within a certain distance of airports and other "critical" facilities. Finally, it places restrictions on drone use by law enforcement.

New Hampshire: RSA 207:57 forbids the use of drones to interfere with legal hunting, fishing, and trapping.

New Jersey: N/A

New Mexico: N/A

New York: N/A

North Carolina: Section 7.16(e) of S.L. 2013-360 gives North Carolina's Chief Information Officer the power to approve drone use by state agencies, mandates tests for drone operations, and establishes a permit process for commercial drones.

North Dakota: North Dakota Code Sec. 29-29.4-01 restricts drone use to surveillance, crime investigation, and other law enforcement uses. It also mandates law enforcement have a warrant to do so.

Ohio: N/A

Oklahoma: N/A

Oregon: The State Fish and Wildlife Commission forbids the use of drones to hunt, fish, or trap animals and prohibits using drones to interfere with hunters.

Pennsylvania: N/A

Rhode Island: N/A

South Carolina: N/A

South Dakota: N/A

Tennessee: Tenn. Code Section 39-13-903(a) forbids drones from capturing footage at open-air ticketed events where 100 or more people gather (note: the law specifically refers to fireworks events). Furthermore, the law bans the use of drones over prison grounds.

Texas: Gov. Code Section 411.062 created the role of director to set rules for drone use in the Capitol Complex. Gov. Code Section 423.002(a) requires that professionals (such as photographers) obtain written consent from individuals that appear in images captured by drones. Without such permission, individuals must be unrecognizable. Finally, Gov. Code Section 423.0045 forbids the use of drones over critical infrastructure, such as power plants and dams.

Utah: Utah Code Title 63G, Chapter 18 allows police to use drones for data collection at test sites and to locate missing persons only in areas without a reasonable expectation of privacy.

Vermont: N/A

Virginia: Virginia Code Section 19.2-60.1 mandates that police obtain a warrant before using drones for criminal investigations or surveillance. The exceptions to this are Amber, Senior, and Blue Alerts.

Washington: N/A

West Virginia: West Va. Code Section 20-2-5 forbids the use of drones to hunt, kill, or take wild animals.

Wisconsin: N/A

Wyoming: N/A

Sweet Potato Shepherd’s Pie

Here at Remodelaholic we love all things home decor and DIY, but we also love RECIPES. While we will continue to share our latest and greatest remodeling projects we want to start sharing some really yummy recipes once a week. Enjoy the recipes and know that we are still Remodelaholics.

Sweet Potato Shepherd's Pie is the best dinner for Fall, Winter and cooler months! Best of all? It's super easy to make.

This season is crazy busy around here, there are all the festivities, the dinner parties, the gifts, the games and the friends and family coming from out of town so to say that our to-do lists are maxed out is an understatement. They are literally so full that making dinner has gone to a second place, so needless to say I decided to hit the reset button and brainstorm some easy and crowd favorite recipes that could be made even in the most hectic day.

However, I also wanted the recipes to be seasonal because with the harvest season in full swing, I want to really use as much of the delicious veggies as we possibly can.

So that's how this sweet potato shepherd's pie came to life. This recipe is delicious it's easy and it's super flavorful. It also makes a great use of all the sweet potatoes that are taking our supermarkets and farmer markets by storm.

However, the total best thing for me is that this is weekend approved. You can be super busy and chockfull of things to do and very little time to cook, and you can still be able to whip this up mainly because most of the time is hands-off time, but also because overall this is a quick recipe.

Also feel free to experiment with the fillings! While I seriously believe that sweet potato is the best way to go, you can also feel free to tuck in some of the things you already have in your pantry or fridge, the reason? This recipe is so flavorful you can stuff it with all those random, leftovers and still have the same delicious sweet potato shepherd's pie.

Ingredients

1 Tbsp flour

1 Potato

1 Tbsp warm milk

1 Tbsp butter

1 Sweet potato

1 Tbsp dried thyme

1 Grated carrot

½ Onion, sliced

1 Garlic clove

½ Cup corn

½ Cup mozzarella cheese

¼ Cup parmesan cheese

Rosemary for garnish

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350F.

Wash and peel the potato and sweet potato.

Bring to boil salted water, place the corn and cook for 4 minutes. Drain the water.

In a pot filled halfway with water, place the potato and sweet potato, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes over medium heat.

Take the potato and mash with a potato masher, add the milk, salt, flour, mozzarella cheese, and butter, and mix it.

Chop the sweet potato, and divide some for the filling, and some for garnish.

In a frying pan over medium heat, drizzle the olive oil, add garlic, and onion. Stir until caramelized.

Incorporate the thyme, sweet potato, carrot, and corn, stir and cook for 5 minutes.

Place at the bottom of an iron skillet, use a spoon to spread the potato mix over, and sprinkle the parmesan cheese.

Take it to the oven and bake for 20 minutes or until the cheese starts to turn golden

Remove from the oven, garnish with the remaining sweet potato and rosemary.

Serve and enjoy.
