if you dont mind sharing, what are some of your favorite ska songs/bands?

I will admit I am not a huge band person I tend to be more of a "pick whatever random songs sound good" person, so I can't recommend any good bands. I also listen to Ska Punk, which is a subgenre of Ska... and Punk. So I am not a good authority on Ska songs to listen to I am just someone who is banned from being passed the aux cord...

But some of my favorite songs include:

Here's my disclaimer, though: I am not into music subcultures I just listen to whatever sounds good (and jazzy punk with horns sounds good), so I could be giving absolutely awful music recommendations that anyone who is especially into Ska (and more specifically Ska Punk) might find egregious. I personally just grab whatever song sounds good and add them to my forever long playlist.

Also the Jabberjaw (Running Underwater) song from Pain used for the Cartoon Network Boomerang Groovies is probably the reason I enjoy Ska punk so much, and it has been in my playlist for years now:

If nothing else in this list interests you, I require everyone by law to listen to Jabberjaw Running Under Water by pain and watch the Cartoon Network Boomerang Groovie video of it. I used to watch Boomerang a million times, and this was probably the only Groovie I really enjoyed watching and didn't go to the bathroom during.

#im very embarassed about being open with my music tastes because I feel like a poser 100% of the time #but im not really claiming to be a part of any music subcultures im moreso just someone who likes what I like #and is banned from using bluetooth or the aux in the car #so im owning it #here's some songs I listen to that are ska (specifically ska punk)#and if someone who is more knowledgeable on the topic and is a part of the subculture wants to add on please do #and if you trash on me for my music tastes that is fair #half of my songs on my playlist are indie songs of debatable quality ya know?? so im not the best music authority #i like my punk songs with horns ya know??#i need some brass in there #trust me my number 1 song on spotify was Lucky Ducks from the Bobs Burgers movie #and my number 2 song was the instrumental version of Lucky Ducks from the Bobs Burgers movie #and no other bobs burgers songs #so I am NOT the person to ask for music recommendations #I once annoyed my family by adding europop to the roadtrip playlist #I have the entire Cats broadway cast recording on CD and my 3 favorite songs on my main playlist #am I talking myself down because I am not confident in myself and scared of judgement from others for my music choices? yes #but also I am speaking from experience that no one lets me touch the aux cord for a REASON

Cleaned and conditioned all my leather dog collars and leashes and also my leather boots and also ALSO my leather notebook covers 💪 I am the fucking strong

#the mechanisms #the mechanisms fanart #drumbot brian #art #digitial art #spent waaay too long trying to figure out how a robot body would move #bc humans are squishy! so much of how our movement works is based on the fact that our body parts can squish on top of each other #limb trying to move but the edge of the torso in the way? don't worry it'll just squish out of the way!#but brass doesn't squish!! i based him mostly off of ball jointed dolls #most obvious on his joints #but how his torso bends? man idk #also i had some ideas but god forbid i knew how to *draw* it #so his torso is in 3 sections (again: ball jointed doll) and then his rib section #has a back and front piece connected internally with hinges (which allows his sides to bend inwards for foward arm movement)#his shoulder blades as you can see are squares attached with hinges attached externally with hinges which allows his torso to bend back #which allows his arm a greater range of movement backwards without having 360 movable shoulder joints #1) bc carmilla probably tried to recreate human range of movements and idk who needs to hear this #but humans do not have 360 shoulder movement #2) relying on the ball joint for movement only is weak. for the strength of the attachment #2a) you have to pick between flexibility and strength when it comes to attaching 1 thing to another thing bc the more something moves-#-the less points of anchorage you have #2b) the brass of his upper arm and shoulder would constantly be rubbing against each other slowly wearing both away #which for an immortal brass maybe isn't the BIGGEST concern but i can't imagine it's very comfortable. so mitigate it #i might actually draw out a diagram of how i think Brian works. and it will be different from this drawing #bc tbh i did not put a ton of thought into it for this drawing. i would of torn my hair out #speaking of hair: brian's is made of copper wire. you ever part the hair on a doll and see bald head? yeah same situation with brian

OH well its not like a BAND band [tho i wish i could]. Instead its marching band lol. Ive already graduated from high school so im just helping my sister since its her last year in band/high school.

BUUT I played the Alto Saxophone! Also did Trumpet & Mellophone for a bit. Now though usually play piano/keyboard at home. [Not amazing at it but I can play all of The Mind Electric & Battle Against a True Hero!]

#also know like. VERY VERY little drums #Had some small experience watching and playing at school + a week event thing i went to like. 5-6 years ago.#tho i do intend on learning more of it when i can #+ bass guitar since i really like the instrument #i wanna play a lotta instruments lol #i also own a violin pffft #cant play it + it needs a new string but i wanna learn that as well #But main instruments i know and play are the saxophone & keyboard #tho i don't play the sax much since i hated 80% of marching band i still love the instrument #i have 2 saxs technically #or rather 1½ #one got ran over #its name was brian #i still have its flattened corpse #it holds up my keyboard ironically #moss post #why do i always have so much to say lol there's like 30 tags now oops #in short. played Sax for like 5-6 years. with the Firmament prologue going live on Thursday, and the first chapter set for next Thursday, I'm looking at the current state of my FL game and debating putting off Firmament for a bit.

I'm due to build the stop at Station VIII this week, and it's going to be a while longer before I complete the rest of the GHR story (still have Burrow-Infra-Mump, Moulin, the Hurlers, and Marigold, plus each of those stations' stories, and then the City of the Tracklayers), plus I'm still wrapping up Evolution. (Probably get that taken care of once Station VIII is set up and I've done as much progress and prep for the next step as possible before my next TtH refresh, I'm currently hunting the Delight and I think there's basically two chapters left after that?)

Sooooo since I don't want to split my focus two ways, I think I'm gonna put all my focus on finishing up the railway and associated stories before I dive into Firmament. probably make my final decision after the prologue goes live and we get a sense of what that is going to be covering.

Oh, neat, new space marine stuff. The big punchy dreadnought is p cool. The lieutenant finally comes with options so on the off chance you’re not currently drowning in primaris lieutenants, you never have to buy another one, at least. The missile guys though... woof.

The word ‘overdesigned’ gets thrown around a lot, and gets thrown at modern GW kits especially, and gets thrown at primaris marines especially especially, but until now I never agreed with it. Sure the models are intricate and detailed as fuck, but that’s what I liked about them.

These missile guys though. They kinda look like an awkward kitbash. What even are their guns? Missile launcher rocket pod chain guns? And they’re overlarge even for space marine weapons, which is... saying something. They really look like they’d benefit a LOT from a two-handed grip instead of the half-assed shoulder-slung look. Or a tripod for the barrel. Or hell, both.

I would literally rather slap old shorty marine missile launcher arms on a primaris torso even if they looked slightly too stubby. Yeesh. Hard pass. And I’m the kind of guy who even likes the dumb little Ultramar-io Kart! I’m not hard to please with space marine stuff! Oy!

#Jake plays Warhammer 40k #tbh it's good news #every space marine model i don't like is one i don't buy #saves my wallet #I do like that dreadnought though #would definitely need to spiff him up with some etched brass or 3d printed ultramarines bits or something though #so that's a project for maybe a year or two from now when such things are available #takes 3d bits designers time to come up with cool conversion bits and make them work #i am patient

#I love turning tumblr into my personal diary knowing this will probably just get buried in the annels of my blog #I’m sure that’s not how you spell that but wtv #anyways grrrr I love men I love figuring out my type #I’ve dated three guys who all coincidentally happen to be relatively tall skinny athletic types #not an intended pattern btw it just happened like that #but now I am experiencing the true joy of variety #gahhhh I love body fat I love guys with body fat I am sick in the head for men who are squishy and have tummies and ass #it’s not my fault that kinda guy just happens to be the center snare in drumline it’s the curse of band kid I guess #holy shit I need to stop dating people in my band actually Jesus Christ it’s two already. see but like or I could collect the set #and go for all different instruments or categories #I’ve got brass (trombone) and woodwind (tenor sax) down #so like percussion?? mayhaps #our drumline is exclusively made up of three types of people for some reason #a) every girl is legit cool a bit masc and definitely gay (I know two personally and a third that fits the bill) and very skilled #b) very much oddball types who nobody in the band gets along with because they actively make people uncomfortable (hard to describe)#c) most grey-sweatpants straight guy you’ve ever seen who just happens to be reserved n semiattractive. looking at two of them in particula #(section leader and center snare specifically) third category hits hard #not my fault the center snare is stupid pretty and reserved and kinda squishy <- on the floor drooling #and like. a good snare #idk what happened to me but as soon as I became a musician people being able to play well became VERY attractive to me #curse of band kid once again #I’m genetically predisposed to it it’s fine <- raised by two divorced music majors #in particular an alto sax and the center snare are two guys that stick as me having a moment of like oh wow they’re *good*. haha that’s hot #alto sax is a killer jazz player and I’m psyched I get to trio with him and one of the drumline girls (my favorite tgirl fr)#although they’re both way better than I am so I’m really the weak link here #which is a hard asf sell given that they want me on bass <- I am a decent-to-mid rhythm guitarist at best #but wtv. everything I do I do for jazz #the most personal information I will likely ever admit to (I am lying I will vaguely yap about myself all day long)

lately ive been thinking a lot about how difficult sarmenti’s canon backstory, specifically, is to adapt to a modern au. it’s not difficult in the sense that you can’t easily paste it onto a modern setting, but difficult in the sense that you run the risk of writing something EXTREMELY distasteful if you stay too true to the character/canon. but on the flip side, if you water down this event too much in an attempt to make it more palatable, you run the risk of sacrificing a HUGE part of what makes sarmenti’s character interesting. there are just not a lot of digestible ways to adapt an act of mass murder that takes place in a government institution

#like you COULD do it pretty easily but damn. you'd need some serious brass balls #erm also if i need to specifically tag darker stuff like this lmk please #wyrdposting

I uhhhh found the coolest deco vanity and uhhhh i need it but uhhhhh its 2000$

#ok its sharp lines and cooler tones with nickel hardware and usually deco is very warm toned waterfall style and brass hardware OK #its unique its my style it has survived 100 years so it would survive me but ouch #100% original too. like the place fixed up some stuff but replaced nothing supposedly #tiny tiny bit of warping bit of veneer chipping whatever its old. mirror needs clips but thats not huge #might get glass cut for the top for extra protection but thatll be cheap in comparison #im not a huge furniture bitch i literally have trashed stuff i fixed up myself so like. is 2k a treat yourself amount???
