The writers of Twinkling Watermelon underestimated my obsession with Yi Chan and Chung Ah's relationship. Like, oh my god, they're finally together? Tell me how they that happened! Tell me who asked who! Tell me if Yi Chan was so happy that he fumbled with his signs! Tell me if Eun Gyeol saw everything unfold! Tell me if Chung Ah was giggling after all the crying! Did Yi Chan insist to walk Chung Ah home even though Eun Gyeol was with her? Did Chung Ah tell him "no" and he started sulking? Did they send each other non-stop messages when they got home? What was their first fax exchange after dating? Did they go on dates? What did they do before the music camp? Did Yi Chan finish the song? I need to know!

Viva la Vida 🍉✨
"The charm of youth is never about getting what you want but about every unexpected tomorrow and every person you meet by chance" - When I fly towards you (2023)
“Nothing lasts forever. Everything is momentary. They all flow away. And that’s not always a bad thing.” - Twenty-five Twenty-one (2022)
Youth dramas always leave a deep impression specially when you are in your mid 20s and even early 30s. I think we tend to enjoy and feel nostalgic about things we probably never enjoyed in our youth. But we surely have been through that phase right? Some are already matured , some are too casual , some extremely emotional and some too carefree. It all wraps around the fact that youth is the best time of your life when you unapologetically learn and experience the best moments in life. Starting from 2521 to When I fly towards you and now Twinkling watermelon - the best part about youth dramas is that they flow they teach you touch you and then just create magic!! 🪄

just realised that ha eunho literally has the exact same personality as yichan (but chungah's face!) and that's why eungyeol's dynamic with the 18 year old version of his dad is the SAME as his dynamic with eunho

TOP 9 DRAMAS I WATCHED IN 2023
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
inspector koo (2021) - everyone here is a different flavor of fruit, crime show exclusively made for girls and gays and it’s the best thing that ever happened to me
when i fly towards you (2023) - this is what happiness is all about
doom at your service (2021) - “love me to the point that you want to destroy the world for me” that’s it that’s the line
love all play (2022) - wfkbj for people who aren’t annoying
little women (2022) - second half felt like a makjang damn the writers were spiraling and i couldn’t stop watching (gay little women i love you)
twinkling watermelon (2023) - worth the hype
bloodhounds (2023) - i remember my letterboxd post for this saying you can almost smell the testosterones through the screen but it was absolutely binge worthy, kinda homo if you ask me!
daily dose of sunshine (2023) - park boyoung is the loveliest human being
law school (2021) - is it insane to beg for a season 2 the chance is low but nonzero… right?
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Tumblr media
hidden love (2023) - im tired of people saying the word chemistry about the main couple but it’s true they invented it
designated survivor: 60 days (2019) - maybe political dramas aren’t always badly written, also han nakyung please give me a chance
celebrity (2023) - user joanyio stop finding invisible gay subtext in every show you watch challenge failed
the good bad mother (2023) - such a gem *continues to ignore mommy issues*
time and him are just right (2022) - cute and perfect for mindless watching in the background while you do other work
the worst of evil (2023) - instead of forcing the love triangle turned love square the writers should have made all four hot main characters make out with each other it would have been perfect
and because of love all play (2022), see also:
castaway diva (2023), witch’s diner (2021), and unlock my boss (2022) (although i haven’t finished this one yet) chae jonghyeop is my new lee dohyun (read: male actor i enjoy watching multiple projects of simply because he doesn’t give me the ick). i also rewatched hot stove league (2020) for park eunbin and jonghyeop after castaway diva, still one of the all time best dramas i remember it used to be my twitter handle years ago baseball is so cool i wish it was real
DRAMAS I STARTED LATE DECEMBER 2023 AND FINISHED EARLY JANUARY 2024
shining for one thing (2022) - please don’t watch this show it was made only for me and i’d like to gatekeep it forever
reset (2022) - never watched a drama execute time loop plot device as perfectly as this did
UNFINISHED BUT PLANNING TO CONTINUE SOON
derailment (2023) - i was baited by a tiktok i thought it’d be a cute silly little high school drama but boy was i surprised
one day off (2023) - she’s living the dream

Yi Chan and Chung Ah's significant moments often happen even without Eun Gyeol's presence or help at all. Them together is just so serene and gentle, and that's probably a manifestation of Yi Chan's current feelings towards Chung Ah.
The icing on top is how their interactions are almost always exclusive to just the two of them. Not even Eun Gyeol is given the luxury to see how their relationship progress. Contrary to Yi Chan and Se Gyeong's interactions that often happens with a large number of people (e.g. school boys, Watermelon Sugar, or bystanders from that one concert Se Gyeong embarrassed Yi Chan).

It makes me so sad that eun yu gets so much hate. I feel like people don't give her the grace they give the other characters, which is so unfair because she's also just a teenager! She's traumatized and trying to make sense of her reality and past just like the rest of them, but because she hides behind a bubbly and easygoing facade people are way too willing to call her annoying (there's also the fact that she's similar to yichan in some ways, and yichan makes TONS of stupid mistakes as well but doesn't get treated the same way).
I for one have a special spot in my heart for characters that are depressed and struggling but shine so, so brightly for their friends. Yes, when she's unaware of something she gets in the way of 'plot' but she's also a supportive friend? I can never understand why people complain about characters acting like the person they're set up to be, just because it doesn't go along with the 'plot' they want to happen.
She's blunt, confident, a bit cheeky, but she also has so many insecurities and flaws. She's not perfect, and I love her for that. We need more female characters that are messy and complex and not just the typical personality types we usually see. Her and eungyeol clearly come from very different upbringings and have different worldviews so seeing them collide was such a delight. Seeing them completely fluster and challenge each other and then grow from that is why their romance really worked for me.
I wish we had more female leads like eun yu!!! She's such a sweetheart!!! I need more female leads that are sources of chaos!!!!

We are at episode 11 and Yi Chan is still chasing after Eun Yu/Se Kyeong. There was only like the 3 seconds of omma and appa in the beginning. I really hope it isn’t one of those “the girl I like rejected me so I will settle for this girl who likes me” love stories. It does not do Chung ah justice and she deserves so much more than that.

I love stories where there are two time travelers and neither is aware that the other is a time traveler. When you’re on the edge of your seat biting your nails waiting for them to discover the truth and then when it actually happens you’re like !!!! that’s how they figured it out?? wow.
