Straight Up on Netflix is such an amazing movie! More people should be talking about it-- spoilers ahead!-- It follows Todd, who is struggling to figure out his sexuality, as he enters a non-physical relationship with Rory. Their intellectual connection is off the charts, but they lack the typical sexual relationship.

I'm most caught by Todd's pull between being LGBTQ and being straight. From what I can tell, he never showed sign of being attracted to men and his friends are only convinced that he's gay because of his mannerisms. Despite his love for his girlfriend, the pull between queer and not queer is a big part of the plot, mainly because Todd's friends discredit his straightness.

Non-sexual partnerships are so rare in pop culture and this one, being healthily portrayed, makes me so happy to see. Even though they didn't work out in the end, their relationship was still valid and sweet to watch!

I like how they made the end scene ambiguous where we weren't sure if the new guy was dating Todd, Rory, both, neither. And that Todd never ended up giving himself a label.

Not only that, but the stunning cinnematography alone is a good reason to watch!

Please stop comparing remakes with og just for the sake of putting the og down. Skam was written and directed by ONE woman and a very small team. The remakes have all several writers just for rewriting the og script, fan reactions etc AND yet none of the remakes come close to the og for ME! Simply because I relate to/care for some of the og characters on a whole other level💞 It's fine that you love remakes more, but don't compare JA work creating Skam with remakes just rewriting/adding stuff..

i don’t know why everybody thinks this but i wasn’t trying to put the og down. comparing two things isn’t disregarding either of it.

also i acknowledge that it was written by a small team but if we look outside the skam universe and into movies etc. there are lots of little budget movies that have better scripts than major productions so saying og had a small team doesn’t excuse their writing flaws or lacks certainly not the ones in s4

it’s great that you like the og better! i don’t judge you we like things for different reasons!

i am not gonna name but i love one of the remakes so much yet i know that it’s not the best and there is another that i don’t watch that is objectively better

i am not talking about connecting to character or preferences

i am saying looking at the construction of a piece of media with writing (script, scenes, characterizations), acting, directing, cinnematography, soundtracks and choosing one to be better. and a lot of those facts are objectively there.

and we can, anybody can compare remakes, reboots. by this logic we can’t compare spider man movies, we cannot compare any reboots of any franchise. well we can. because in those pieces of media it’s also rewriting/adding stuff

So, PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT : I LOVE THE OG IT’S THE REASON I AM HERE BUT CAN WE PLEASE LOOK INTO THE REAL WORLD A LITTLE AND REALIZE WHAT IS BETTER AND WHAT IS WORSE (BTW THIS IN NO WAY RELATES TO WHICH REMAKE YOU SHOULD ENJOY, ENJOYMENT AND BEING GOOD AS A PIECE OF MEDIA ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS)

I got tagged by @hachibe so here are her questions:

1. What skam and each remake you watched taught you?

Hmmmm. It might sound a bit odd, because I know that’s what SKAM et al are essentially for, but they haven’t really taught me anything, as far as moral or life lessons go. They’ve taught me a lot about storytelling and pacing though, especially the original season 3 (and watching it be remade over and over).

2. What would you tell someone to convince them to watch skam and every remake? At least one thing for each one that you’ve watched

I think I’d point to the care exhibited in the storytelling for most of them, as well as the cinnematography. The languages for the remakes lol. I don’t know. “Watch SKAM season 3 because it’s literally one of the best seasons of TV made in the last five years”. But also if someone’s not into teen drama, they won’t care. They won’t get it either.

3. Was there any moments that shocked you?

Oh, plenty. I didn’t really know very much about it when I started watching. The very first clip I ever watched - hjernen er alene - shocked me! I wasn’t expecting a six minute clip of two boys talking and cuddling and kissing and falling in love but there it was! Right there on my screen! Like TV shows just.... did that! Then there was the girls fighting in s1, Noora’s whole assault story in s2 (and William’s SHOCKINGLY AWFUL REACTION TO IT LMAO HOW IS THIS “ROMANTIC”????). Isak and Even’s first kiss. Even’s episode. WHEN SANA CRIES ON THE PHONE TO CHRIS BECAUSE THE GIRLS “AREN’T SURE THEY WANT TO BE FRIENDS WITH HER ANYMORE”. Oh god, when William got out of the car in s4. That was..... a bad moment.

4. Set you would like to visit?

Well, I’ve never been to Oslo, Madrid, Berlin, Utrecht.... so really any of them lol. But if I have to pick a specific set location then it’d be that abandoned military base with the pool from Druck!

5. What character would you go for advice?

..... none of them. Maybe Hans? He seems like the one who has his shit together the most. I’m too old to really take advice from these children.

6. Favourite scene in a remake that wasn’t on the original?

Oh man. That’s tough. Possibly when Imane and Manon went to have tea and Skam France gave me hope that they weren’t going to do the whole girlsquad drama because Imane was already telling Manon about how she felt in the group etc? That was a good scene. Also David hanging out with the boys in Druck for the first time. That’s just.... such a dumb but amazing scene. Comedy gold.

7. If you could go on a date with any character, who would it be?

They’re CHILDREN. But if I were also a child, then Eliott. He seems like such an utter romantic, I’m pretty sure I’d swoon.

8. If you could make a season for one character, who would it be?

Daphné, maybe. She needs to be rescued from Basile.

9. Is there a character you didn’t like in original that you ended up liking in the remakes?

10. If you could watch only one episode for the rest of your life which one would it be? (one for skam and one for each of the remakes, it doesn’t have to be the same)

That’s just cruel.

SKAM - season 3 episode 10 DRUCK - season 3 episode 10 Skam France - season 3 episode 10 Skam Italia - season 2 episode 8 maybe? (I love that morning clip) Skam España - I haven’t seen it all yet and not as episodes but probably also the last one of season 2 (what can I say; I have favourites and I like happiness)

11. If there was a skam remake but that took place in university with one would you like to see?

Which... remake? Or which character? España is pretty much the only remake I really trust, so probably them or Druck because, as is probably very apparent from my reblogging, I am absolutely refusing to let Matteo and David go, so.
