2022 comics reading log
In the early days of last year, I was inspired by some twitter mutuals to post my comics reading in the new year and kept it up from Jan 1 2022 till just about the bitter end. Something about it really helped keep me invigorated by the medium even in some pretty bleak times, so I’m going to keep it going this year, but here at Longboxd instead of on twitter, which I'm trying to spend less time at. Before I can do that though, I want to archive the 2022 entries in a spot that’s more permanent/less twitter-iffic, so here we go—pretty much every comic I read in 2022! (As transcribed from here)
Part 1: 1-21 (of 387)
(I can "only" post 30 images at a time here, so that’ll dictate the length of these catch-up posts)
1) Timeless #1 - I mean, Lol at that final page reveal but this was a fun comic. I like Kang stories and this is good Kang.
2)  Service Industry by T Edward Bak
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3) Human Target #2
4) Grrrl Scouts Stone Ghost #1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5) Krania #1 by Brian McCray - “I will unmake you” - I sorta wish this was hornier?
6) God Bless The Machine by Connor McCann - A messy dystopian exploration of tech and social media etc that trucks along efficiently, wraps up nicely. Definitely some JTHM energy in the drawings that is chunkily satisfying.
7) Reckless: Friend Of The Devil - A fun read, but didn’t work for me as well as the first. Less "badass/men’s adventure magazine moments"  than in vol one, maybe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
8) Cult Of The Ibis by Daria Tessler - Like Tove Jansson designed the "oh fuck I’m losing it" nightlife montage from your favorite noir movie.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
9) Firepower #18
10) Future State: Gotham #7
11) Future State: Gotham #8
Tumblr media
12) Rust Belt Review #3 - Very solid anthology that seems firmly targeted at the more "literary" side of alt-comics (though of course there are some rowdy exceptions). 2-3 cartoonists clearly influenced by Sammy H, lots of humanity in the stories.
13) Tuki vol 1 - It's nice to have a new Jeff Smith comic to enjoy—he's great at this (this being funny/intense/heartfelt adventure comics), it's easy to sorta forget just *how good* until a new book comes out. Glad it's in B/W too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
14) Crisis #53 - The late 80s/early 90s was the best time for big format anthology magazines, great for just flipping through. Random issue of CRISIS has Sean Phillips doing his best McKean/Fregredo, & Steve Whittaker’s colors(!) on these Munoz SINNER pages are interesting (but print muddy).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
15) Crisis #54 - This one has a Paul Grist/Mark Millar prison comic.
16) Avengers #98 - They don’t make ‘em like they used to (kind of bad, chaotic, and hard to read)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
17) Nightwing: Leaping into the light TPB
18) X-Men #6
19) Human Target #3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
20) Boy Maximortal #3 by Rick Veitch - Veitch found a new life in POD publishing in a way that feels like it’s a spiritual sibling to those Ditko/Snyder joints, & we are richer for it. These are uncut Metaphysical Boomer Cape Comics & I love them unreservedly (also the indicia warmed this slow cartoonist’s heart)
Tumblr media
21) Ninja Funnies #1

To be continued!

public health
Tumblr media
What is public health all about? Public health refers to the science of preventing illnesses, improving health, fostering physical and mental well-being, controlling infectious diseases, and establishing health services for individuals. An awareness of the significance of community action in the promotion of health and the prevention and treatment of diseases has emerged from regular human interactions (Bryant & Rhodes 2022). Protecting the health of entire populations is the main focus of public health. These populations can range in size from a single neighbourhood to a whole nation or continent (CDC Foundation 2022). Speaking of which, we all know about the global pandemic caused by the Corona Virus since January 2020 till today which has mutated into multiple variants like Delta, Alpha, Omicron and more. I still remember when the first MCO was implemented in March 2020 and it was truly a depressing period of time for everyone especially businesses and the economy (I literally spent half of MCO playing Sims 4 and making Dalgona coffee). Also a little rant, my mum made me wash groceries and SCRUB eggs with soap because she was scared the virus attached itself to it or something. Ok, rant over. Anyway, I think everyone is thinking the same thing... when is this ever going to end for good?

Is social media useful in spreading information on Covid-19 in Malaysia?
Let's talk about public health in Malaysia, there's an app that we all know called Mysejahtera. It is basically a contact tracing app developed for the Covid-19 pandemic. It consists of four main features. The app's primary goal is to let users calculate their risk of getting Covid-19. The software requests basic information from users about their symptoms, travel history, and recent contact with confirmed cases. After that, it divides them into risk groups and tells them what to do next. Those under surveillance would have to stay in their homes for 14 days and respond to the survey daily. Contact tracing is the second primary feature of the app. Before entering a building, users scan a QR code, and the system logs their previous 14-day visits. They can add dependents who don't own smartphones to their app so that they can also be accounted for. Only when a patient tests positive does the Ministry of Health release this information. If not, the data is archived after 30 days and deleted after 90. The software assigns unique QR codes that indicate a person's risk level and track where citizens have been. This depends on how many vulnerable individuals they have in their homes and whether they live close to a Covid-19 hotspot. The third feature is when registering for the MySejahtera app, citizens are required to provide comprehensive demographic data, including age, gender, and ethnicity. Future analysis and medical research can use this (Poon 2020). Last but not least, the app allows you to book appointments for vaccination as well as provide a certificate of vaccination after completion. Therefore, I do think that social media is useful in spreading information about Covid-19 in Malaysia mostly because of this app (of course other social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram & Facebook also provide useful information about Covid-19 rates, symptoms etc.). Though nowadays people don’t usually use the app anymore since the pandemic has kinda died down.

What about public mental health?
I'm not sure if you guys have heard of this Instagram account @buthonestly.co but they are a group of individuals based in Malaysia & Singapore who came up with a card game to facilitate conversations for people to open up and talk about their feelings. Their mission states that they wish to encourage vulnerability, and honesty with oneself and others and to discuss hard topics that people find difficult to talk about. I think this is a brilliant idea and thought it would be nice to share with you guys so do go check them out!
That's all for this week's post! Thank you for taking the time to read this. Byebye, see you next week.

2021 NHL Draft (21-32)
SPOILERS
21. Boston - Fabian Lysell (RW)
Cool that we got to see his reaction. Looks super happy. But oh my god. CHILD. Who let you wear that on TV?! This isn’t the early 80′s. That big open collar and the tight one button jacket... unfortunate. They’re ripping on him for his character. Listening to SN, the thing he has going for him is he’s stocky. Rough.
22. Edmonton - Xavier Bourgault (C)
“Slippery” has been used so many times. I should’ve logged it and made it into a drinking game. Alas, I am out of wine... Anyway, this kid is another offensive player. Edmonton just doesn’t like those two-way centres, eh?
23. Dallas - Wyatt Johnston (C)
C’mon, guys. Give us something good. I don’t even know who I want them to pick, but I want whoever it is to be good.
SIDENOTE: Thank fuck Elliotte cut and styled his hair. I don’t know what he’s been doing over the last two years, but I wasn’t about it.
“Hockey IQ is off the charts. Sat for 14 months and played his checking role to perfection at the U18s.“ SN is really loving this kid, too! I’ll have to do some research, but I’ll take it. Plus, I love how over the moon the kid looked!
ETA: I know a lot of people are losing it over this on Twitter but Jim Nill & his scouts were able to attend the entire IIHF tournament in Frisco and I know they have a lot of Ontario scouts. Pevs is up here full-time now, too. I’m going to try to trust them on this one.
24. Florida - Mackie Samoskevich (RW)
Another U.Mich. kid? And he’s a Sandy Hook kid? Jeez...
25. Columbus - Corson Ceulemans (D)
I’ve had enough of these guys. Fuck the Leafs, seriously. D: *sigh* So anyway, he was projected here. I like the consistency. Good for him!
26. Minnesota - Carson Lambos (D)
Good job on the announcement, kiddo! This guy was projected much earlier but he seemed really happy to go to the Wild. That’s nice! :) Has anyone noticed that all the sisters (girlfriends?) are wearing those silk/satin slip dresses from Aritzia that look like they were stolen from 1998 by a time traveller?
Carolina Moves to #40 & 51
27. Nashville - Zachary L’Heureux (LW)
4 Suspensions?! Flipped the bird...after doing an Easter egg hunt with his billet sister. I mean. Sounds like the kid is just immature and needs to be reigned in from a PR standpoint than that he’s a bad kid?
28. Colorado - Oskar Olausson (RW)
Just chillin’ in a brewery. That’s so Avs. Hm. Moved up! He must’ve been projected for the 2nd round. Lucky kid!
29. New Jersey - Chase Stillman (C)
Corey Stillman’s kid! Another Peterborough product. The Pit is chasing Haliburton and Thunder Bay!
30. Vegas - Zach Dean (C)
What is UP with this late-90′s hair?! Another kid who moved up. It’s Vegas, so I assume they know what they’re doing. But who knows?
And now to end with two TRASH organizations:
31. Montreal - Logan Mailloux (D)
NO. NO NO NO NO NO.
Fuck. Montreal.
32. Chicago - Nolan Allan (D)
Oh FUCK. Seriously. Chicago turns around all “We respect women!” as IF. And right after THAT.

My Happy and Sad Sweetener Tour Experience Pt.I
So, how do I start to tell you how crazy and amazing this experience was?
Well I can definitely tell you it was a r-o-l-l-e-r-c-o-a-s-t-e-r of emotions. Literally. However, before I go into detail about my concert experience of the sweetener tour, I think it is important to give you all some background info to go with it.
So, I have been a fan of Ariana Grande for QUITE some time! Actually the date I set as a starting date of me being a fan of hers is 2012. That’s when I followed her on twitter and made an account just for that reason (lol).
So 2012 it was, Ariana still in red hair and petticoats, singing Put Your Hearts Up and Pink Champagne on a daily basis. I just loved everything about her. Her style, her persona but most importantly her voice and music. Her vocals just blew me away and she was a steady companion of mine throughout school (remember I was 14 in 2012).
I always dreamt of meeting her but never really considered it. I was too young to go on my own and all of my friends had no interest in seeing her whatsoever. Her first tour, the listing sessions, were only in America and I am..... not. I was stuck in Germany, unable to see her anyways, so the question never arose. However, she came here for the Honeymoon Tour, but again I did not dare to go on my own. The Dangerous Woman Tour came around and for some reason I did not get tickets. The concert in Frankfurt was unfortunately cancelled due to Manchester...
What the Manchester incident has shown me is that I should not give two f’cks about what other people think or if I am going on my own. I realised if you wait too long you might miss your chance of seeing her altogether. Manchester really showed me what a beautiful human being she is and how caring she is towards her fans and others.
So, when the Sweetener Tour was announced I anxiously waited for German dates to be released and boom: Cologne, Berlin and Hamburg (multiple times lol) and I knew I HAD to go. I saved up money to buy a laptop but I was like - nope I am spending it on concert tickets - and that is what I did. Not only did I get concert tickets but I got Meet and Greet Tickets for Cologne. I was so damn happy and could not believe my luck when I received my tickets. Also because I got them in a presale via Telekom in Germany. My father is a customer there so I was able to use his log in to buy the tickets.
I met some beautiful and nice people online who also had Meet & Greet tickets for Cologne and we planned to go there together and meet up at the concert! When we arrived the sad news started to come in (and that is the really sad part about this experience): Our Meet & Greet got cancelled and there would be no Soundcheck either. As someone who had not even dared to dream of this moment this was.... heartbreaking. We all were pretty devastated and sad.
However, I was so glad I had people around me who felt my pain, who were just as sad and upset. We all tried to comfort each other and having each others backs really made this whole thing not nearly as bad. We still got the see the VIP loung which was later cancelled for other European dates.
So, the VIP loung was ok lol. We were not allowed to take our phones with us, which made no sense because we did not meet her. They gave us a “cocktail” which was more like juice with some Alkohol. The lounge was ok, we had some food to eat, like donuts, cookies and fruits and a section for taking pictures plus a section to apply glitter jewels to your face. We had to wait for a very long time because they just left us there during the time we were supposed to meet her.
When they let us in pit, they did not care that some people had Meet & Greet tickets and others don’t. Which I and many others thought was pretty unfair. They told us to not start running or we would be kicked out (fair enough, that sh’t is dangerous). There were a bunch of people entering before me so I did not get the desired spot at the mini stage but I got a spot at the barrier which was ok.
I was super nervous and could not wait till the concert started. Now looking back, I think the spot at the mini stage really is not the best to go for. The main stage is where it is at everyone. I know everyone wants to take her hand but you will have a much better view at the front than at the back. She also did not take any hands in Cologne, so that did not matter anyways.
Social House and Ella Mai performed before Ariana went onto stage and they were pretty awesome. I love Ella Mai’s music and her music has been on repeat since the concert. Her voice is very soothing and just R&B. Social House was also amazing. I am pretty sure most people, except hardcore fans did not know who they were but they were still able to hype the crowd and “Haunt You” was such a magical experience.
Now it was time for Ariana and I can’t tell you how weird it was to hear and see her live for the first time after 7 years of being a fan. It was so surreal, seeing her standing there in front of me, and realising “Yep, she is a human being, she is real” and when I tell you I have not seen a prettier human being I AINT lying. Her voice….. is heaven. Like, I could not believe my ears or eyes or whatever was left of me. My soul left my body and I lost track of time. The concert went by so quickly but she really performed for a long time (90 minutes I believe).
Tumblr media
All in all a very crazy day and somewhat sad but happy at the same time. Ariana was amazing but you could tell she felt a little sad here and there. I have to split up this post in two because I went to a second date in Berlin which was just a dream. I got to meet her mom and dad and the view was so much better.
The post is coming later today :) I think I will go more into detail how the concert was and how each performer performed etc. If you want me to share some pics just ask. If you got any questions regarding the Sweetener Tour, Meet & Greet etc. don’t hesitate to ask!
Yours Truly
Isabella (Twitter)
PS: You can see how close my hand was to her lol

CANTLON'S CORNER: HOCKEY NEWS AND NOTES OFF SEASON VOLUME 12
Tumblr media
BY: Gerry Cantlon, Howlings HARTFORD, CT - The world is slowly approaching normalcy. Sports news is becoming more and more prevalent as ALL sports are moving closer and closer towards returning into the daily lives of its fans. AHL AWARDS The American Hockey League announced that forward Gerry Mayhew of the Iowa Wild has been voted the winner of the Les Cunningham Award as the AHL’s Most Valuable Player for the 2019-20 season. Mayhew scored a league-best 39 goals – the most by an AHL skater since 2011-12 – and finished third with 61 points in 49 games, leading Iowa to the team's best regular-season record in franchise history. 10 of Mayhew’s goals were game-winners and logging 11 multiple-goal performances, including a natural hat trick in a 3-0 win over the San Diego Gulls on Feb. 14. Mayhew tied a franchise mark with a ten-game scoring streak from December 12th to January 10th. Mayhew earned CCM/AHL Player-of-the-Month honors for January after he totaled 12 goals and 19 points in 11 contests. Among Mayhew’s 39 tallies were 13 power-play goals and two shorthanded markers. He also led the Wild in plus/minus rating at plus-16. Iowa was 26-7-1-2 in games when Mayhew registered a point. Mayhew represented Iowa at the 2020 AHL All-Star Classic in Ontario, CA, and was voted a Second Team Left-Wing AHL All-Star for 2019-20. He also made his National Hockey League debut this season, notching two goals in 13 games with Minnesota – including a goal in his first appearance on October 15th in Toronto. 2020-21 SEASON When it starts, where it starts still remains to be seen at the NHL or AHL level. The NHL has agreed-upon a framework to return to play, but several major details are still being worked out. While questions remain how it will all play out, signs point to a resumption of hockey sometime this summer. The AHL season start will not be in October, with the most likely start being some point in November. The October 9th scheduled date for the home opener for the Hartford Wolf Pack is almost certainly going to be rescheduled. One of the many side issues is the pending expiration of player contracts at the end of June but of the contracts of teams' hockey staff at the end of the month. “They’re running out of runway here and a lot of people are in limbo,” one source said. "It isn’t only players, its all the hockey ops people, GM, Assistant GM, Head Coaches, assistants, equipment managers, trainers, and scouts are all sitting around wondering a lot about this. What I’m hearing is the likelihood is that they will slide contracts forward say 60-90 days, then, announce a Draft Day and then a free agency period. The other big issue is, of course, the salary cap and what we're hearing is a freeze on the cap at this year’s level ($82.1M) for the next two-to-three years until the economy recovers. In principle, both sides are happy. They have areas of interest they want to clarify moving forward, but a ten-year extension for the CBA is being bandied about. It's in discussion but nothing's finalized.” The business of hockey is a large and expansive one with many pieces of the financial puzzle still to be resolved. PLAYER MOVEMENT A big coaching opportunity has opened up after the Los Angeles Kings announced on Saturday that they will not renew the contract of Ontario Reign head coach, Mike Stothers, whose contract is set to expire on June 15th. Stothers has led the Kings’ affiliate for the last six seasons, including five with the Reign (2015-20) where he earned the Louis A.R. Pieri Award as the AHL’s outstanding coach and won a Calder Cup championship with the Manchester Monarchs in 2014-15. “We appreciate everything Mike has contributed to the organization,” said Rob Blake, Vice President and General Manager of the Kings in a press release. “He has played an important role in helping develop our players and we want to thank him for his years of service and guiding us to a Calder Cup Championship in 2015." San Diego's Chris Wideman heads to the Torpedo Novgorod (Russia-KHL) and Frank Corrado of the Belleville Senators signs with MODO (Sweden-Allsvenskan). Lukáš Radil, who split the year in San Jose between the AHL Barracuda and the NHL Sharks signs with Spartak Moscow (Russia-KHL) while Carter Camper of the Utica Comets has his eyes on Sweden or perhaps Russia for next year. 23 players have now signed in Europe. 16 of the 31 AHL teams have lost at least one player to a European signing. Ex-Pack, Kodie Curran, turned down a KHL deal with Avangard Omsk (Russia) to sign a two-year, one-way deal at a $1M/year with the Anaheim Ducks. He will likely be in San Diego to start the season. He played with Rogle BK (Sweden-SHL) last year earning high marks as the top defenseman in the SHL and the Golden Helmet Award as the regular season MVP. Nice story on Curran in the Calgary Herald. Read it HERE. A pair of ex-Wolf Pack players were swapped for one another in a two-for-one deal in Russia. Defenseman, Alexei Bereglazov, winner of two Gagarin Cup titles, and forward, Ilya Kablukov, depart Mettallurg Magnitogorsk (Russia-KHL) for Avangard Omsk. Going back the other way in the deal is right-wing, Taylor Beck, an ex-Sound Tiger. Ryan Verbeek, the nephew of former Hartford Whaler and New York Ranger, and current Detroit Red Wing Assistant GM, Pat Verbeek, returns to France to play with Elite Magnus League HC Briancon next season. He split this season with Pensacola and Huntsville of the SPHL. Calvon Boots of the American International College (AHA) leaves the Springfield, MA school for the Rochester Institute of Technology (AHA) in the fall. AIC goalie, Zacharias Skog completes his four years and signs a pro deal back home with Vasterviks IK (Sweden-SHL). His movement makes 31 college players signing in Europe. Goalie, Ryan Edquist, after just 21 games in four years with the Boston College Eagles (HE) has grad transferred back home to the Minnesota State-Mankato Mavericks (NCHC). He will be the backup to next season's likely Hobey Baker finalist, Dryden McKay, who had a 1.31 GAA, tops in the nation in his sophomore year. He is the son of one-time Whaler, Ross McKay. Edquist's transfer makes for 16 Division I grads moving to new schools. Andrew Mancini, (Canterbury Prep-New Milford) drafted as the first-ever draft pick by the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks in the NAHL Supplemental Draft has opted to sign with the P.A.L. Islanders (NCDC) which is closer to his Long Island home for next season. Cam MacDonald (Selects Academy of South Kent Prep) who was a Boston College (HE) commit for 2022-23 has elected to head home and signed with the Saint John Sea Dogs (QMJHL). He spent last season with the Sioux Falls Stampede (USHL). Max Coyle becomes the fourth University of Alabama-Huntsville (WCHA) player to transfer from the program that was slated to be eliminated. He heads to Bowling Green (NCHC). Read that story, next. TALBOT, A SAVE AND A BEAUTY The University Alabama-Huntsville Chargers were on the verge of extinction until a former Wolf Pack goaltender got involved. In just ten days' time, the Chargers' program received an astounding $500K in donations allowing the University to continue to have their team play in the WCHA conference. The conference formally reinstated the program on Wednesday. The conference is losing seven schools after the 2020-21 season as they form the new CCHA conference. UAH may apply so they have a more travel-friendly schedule according to now-former head coach Mike Corbett, who stepped down on Wednesday, along with Assistant Coach, and long time AHL player, Gavin Morgan. The other assistant coach Lance West was named Interim Head Coach. West played at UA-H in the early 1990s, three-of-the-four years at Division II. He was an assistant coach for ten years after graduating before spending the next eleven seasons at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks Nanooks (WCHA), the first ten of them as an assistant coach. He returned to the program two years ago. A fundraising campaign to support the continuation of the Alabama-Huntsville hockey program was successful in raising the critical monetary gifts from numerous individual donors, according to UA-H Athletic Director, Cade Smith in a story on AL.com. The dollars were matched by two separate gifts of $125,000 each. The gifts came from long-time hockey supporters, Taso Sofikitis, and Sheldon Wolitski, who played on the school’s Division II national championship team. The total amount of more than $750,000 in private dollars will allow the Chargers to continue to compete at the Division I level during the 2020-21 season. This total philanthropic contribution is the largest athletic campaign contribution in the history of UA-H. One of the school's biggest program supporters and who helped spearhead the drive was its most famous former Charger, and current Calgary Flames and ex-Wolf Pack netminder, Cam Talbot. He took to his own Twitter page to express why people should donate to the cause. “This program gave me a chance that nobody else would. Without my time spent @UAHuntsville, I would not have got the opportunity to be where I am today. I want those opportunities to continue for more young players for years to come!” Talbot was named to the advisory board. In addition to the private dollars, UAH president, Darren Dawson, committed money from the university to cover the balance of the hockey team’s operational costs during the upcoming season. “We are thankful from the loyal support that has been demonstrated this week by the fans and alumni of Charger hockey,” said Dawson in a press release statement. “We are hopeful that this support will translate into a sustainable funding model that will allow the UAH hockey program to rise again to high levels of success,” “The university is fully committed to the upcoming season,” Smith added. “The university will work with the supporters of the UAH hockey program and a newly formed hockey advisory board to develop a plan that will allow the Chargers to thrive in the 2020-21 season and beyond. UAH is committed to building a world-class Division I hockey program with a permanent conference home that will allow the Chargers to continue past the 2020-21 season.” The school has already allocated money and cleared space for a brand-new, on-campus arena before the pandemic hit looking to take the Chargers from the larger, off-campus site, the Van Braun Center, which is the home of the local SPHL team, the Huntsville Havoc, to a more manageable facility. The WCHA conference will be strengthened and could become the first fully functioning West-Coast-based Conference as they are likely to add Arizona State, whose brand new on-campus arena is expected to be ready in 2021. The two Alaska schools in Fairbanks and Anchorage are likely to merge in the near future because of state budget cuts. The conference will likely then add other major West Coast Division I colleges and universities such as Los Angeles-based USC, and UCLA, Colorado-based, Air Force, who will likely switch from the AHA conference, and perhaps UNLV, and Utah, who are currently ACHA Division I club programs. Despite the good financial news, the Chargers program lost another player to transfer when Bailey Newton announced he will leave after his sophomore season and head back to Canada and the University of Western Ontario Mustangs (OUAA) QMJHL The last Canadian major junior Draft is this weekend. The QMJHL Draft will be done remotely for the first time with the first round scheduled for Friday on the league’s YouTube channel. Rounds 2-14 will be on Saturday starting at 9 am with selection results on the league website. The QMJHL U.S. Draft will be held on Monday, June 8th with results on the league's website. The states with eligible players in the US Draft are from are; Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. A strong rumor is that the QMJHL will start it's 2020-21 season on October 1st, regardless of what the other two major junior leagues, the OHL and WHL, do. In part, it will be because they have no US-based franchises. The only issue will be European players' participation based on provincial and directives from Ottawa regarding COVID-19 and the US border for American players which of course by mutual consent is still closed. “The feeling is they want to get back to a regular order of business starting a month later is OK, but they want to get back on track,” commented a reliable hockey source with knowledge of the situation. Having fans in the buildings are necessary for franchises to survive, but Health Canada will have the final say on when the puck is dropped. The NAHL has pushed its Draft Day to July 21st. The CHL Import Draft that normally takes place after the NHL Draft and no date has been set for either. COLLEGE HOCKEY The Dartmouth head coaching opening was filled with a familiar name to followers of Connecticut college hockey as Reid Cashman, who spent four years as a defenseman with the Quinnipiac Bobcats (ECACHL) in their rise to national prominence, was named the new head coach for the Dartmouth Big Green (ECACHL) on Monday. He becomes the 22nd coach in school history and replaces the all-time winningest coach, Bob Gaudet, who stepped down after 23 years year in the top spot. “I feel like I have been given the opportunity of a lifetime to be the head coach of the Dartmouth men’s hockey program,” Cashman said in a press release statement. “For 114 years, Dartmouth has competed at the highest level and has produced Olympians, All-Americans, and NHL players. Along with the great history on the ice, Dartmouth College has been one of the finest institutions in the world for more than 250 years. It is truly an honor to be given this prestigious opportunity.” Cashman has been on a fast track professionally. He was an assistant coach for two years with the Hershey Bears (AHL) and has spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach with the Washington Capitals, with his portfolio being the Caps powerplay and defense. He also coordinated their development camps and participation in the Traverse City, MI annual prospects tournament. He won’t start this new position until the NHL playoffs for the Capitals concludes, whenever that may be. Cashman played 151 games for the Hamden-based university. In 151 career games, Cashman tallied 23 goals and still holds the school record of 125 assists for 242 total points. He was an NCAA (East First-Team, All-American in his senior year in 2006-07. He was a second-team honoree in his junior in 2003-2004. In Quinnipiac’s last season in the AHA conference, he was named to the First Team and led the conference in scoring. He was named Player of the Year. In addition, Cashman was a Hobey Baker Top 10 finalist before the Bobcats were elevated to the ECACHL conference. Cashman played five years of minor professional hockey with his last year in North America winning an ECHL Kelly Cup championship with the Cincinnati Cyclones in 2010. Cashman’s last pro year was spent in Austria skating for EHC Linz in Erste Bank Eishockey League (EBEL). The Red Wing, MN native was undrafted but played in the AHL for Toronto, Wilkes Barre/Scranton, and Milwaukee. In the ECHL, he played for Columbia, Wheeling, and Cincinnati After retiring from active playing, he returned to Quinnipiac and became an assistant coach to Rand Pecknold for five years (2011-2016) and went to two Frozen Four Finals. Quinnipiac lost to first to their conference, and in-state rival, Yale University, in a 4-0 shutout in 2013 and again in 2016 losing 5-1 to North Dakota. Thomas Maia is another Division I player heading to the Canadian Junior A ranks while still retaining his NCAA eligibility. Maia, who suffered a broken fibula without playing a game for R.I.T. (AHA), heads to the Victoria Grizzlies (BCHL) after he was traded from the Oakville Blades (OJHL). Speaking of Yale University, they announced its 2020 freshmen class of seven which includes head coach Keith Allain's son, Nik (North Branford/Taft Prep) from Boston (NCDC). He was a UCONN commit at one point. Ryan Stevens joins his brother Luke who is already with the Bulldogs. The boys' father is Kevin Stevens, the former NHL'er with the New York Rangers. Stevens, the elder, won two Stanley Cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins. The other announced players include Reilly Connors (Madison/Loomis Chaffe), and goalie Nathan Reid, from Sioux Falls (USHL). LIU named its first head coach last week, and this week their first batch of LIU Sharks recruits with the first-ever recruit signed being Jordan DiCicco of the Brooks Bandits (AJHL). He was followed by nine others including, Connor Szmul, from the Chippewa (WI) Steel (NAHL), Daine Dubois of the Bonnyville Pontiacs (AJHL), Robert McCollum Muskegon Lumberjacks (USHL), no relation to ex-Wolf Pack Tom McCollum. Also, Nolan McElhaney, who missed all of last year with an ACL injury, transfers from the University of New Hampshire Wildcats (HE), and a second Division I transfer, Mitch Meek, from Michigan Tech (WCHA). Madoka Suzuki of the Kemptville 73’s (CCHL), Marty Westhaver of the Victoria Grizzlies (BCHL), Aaron White of the Amarillo Bulls (NAHL), and Gustav Muller of the Madison Capitols (USHL). TRIVIA What was Wayne Gretzky's last non-99 uniform number? He wore number 26 for three games with the Peterborough Petes. Last month was the 25th anniversary of the Quebec Nordiques' last game. It was at MSG against the Rangers in the Stanley Cup playoffs. The Rangers won the series in six games with the last goal in Nordiques history was scored by Peter Forsberg. The Nordiques were the first WHA team that merged with the NHL that was moved. Read the full article

A brief rundown on Kamino & Co. by Kaz
Imma tell you how the story unfolded chronologically as briefly as i can.
Disclaimer: while I’m trying to be as objective as I can, the story is inevitably filtered through my perspective and therefore can be biased.
8/9/19: A guy as we knew and loved who went by the name Kamino left the server with o explanation.
9/9/19:
- Kamino posted a series of stories on his Instagram addressing his mental illness/ the whole server was very concerned about this, speculating about a suicide attempt/ Chloe was particularly disturbed, saying she cried reading his post.
- On the same day, a new account showed up, which soon was revealed as Kamino’s (vananh>danh mem>”Kamino”)
- Still on the same day, Kamino reached out to Sol, reassuring him he was still fine and no suicide thingy + asked Sol to remove personal stuff on this server.
10-13/9/19: The whole server but Sol still had not a clue about Kamino’s status as Sol chose to remain silent about his contact with Kamino/ Some speculations were still going strong.
13/9/19:
- I found his new twitter, just a recycled one from his old account so finding was not a problem > posted about it on chatting lounge so people knew that he was still active + put an end to any speculation about his status.
- That night Chloe dm-ed me asking for Kamino’s twitter, to which i refused because I did care about his privacy.
Tumblr media
14/9/19:
- A wild Astrelgraph appeared in the server, claiming he was Chloe’s friend/ he joined the voice chat and joked around about being a furry & harmless stuff
- The same night Astrelgraph slid into my dm asking for Kamino’s twitter just like Chloe did, which i again declined because i didn’t know who this dude was or what his motive was.
Tumblr media
- After I stopped replying to his message for a while, Astrelgraph revealed himself as Kamino along with proof.
- Here is the rest of the conversation, for the sake of transparency:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Astrelgraph left the server that night, making me unable to reply because we were not in any mutual server.
15/9/19:
- đanh mêm dude joined the chat and acted like an obnoxious cunt he was, sending everyone to uneasiness by his cringe worthy messages as the members have all witnessed.
- I had already speculated that it was in fact Kamino once again but remained silent until shit hit the fan and everyone became increasingly annoyed by this act of trolling.
- During my big brain time I inspected every nook and cranny of the chat log and was 90% sure that đanh mêm was Kamino all along and his “ya’ll” in his latest message was the final piece to the puzzle :khabanhquay: yet the reception wasn’t too nice when i addressed my suspicion because no one believe our beloved Kamino could commit such atrocities.
- The whole đanh mêm thing got out of hands pretty quick so i eventually brought up screenshots of my dm with Astrelgraph to support my claim that it was in fact Kamino out there saying vile shit and making everyone feel uncomfortable.
- Kamino could gain access to the locker-room (our private channel) and read into our chat as our naive Sol got manipulated into doing his bidding.
Tumblr media
This might lead to his remark that we are all a hypocritical bunch because we “talked behind closed doors”.
The fact that I exposed his true identity led Kamino to his third and final act - unleashing his tantrum into the discussion channel. Here is the part with spoiler tag:
||Second of all, to all those who have a special role in the server "🔑", I’m truly hurt by the words and thoughts that were aimed toward me.
The fact that, Kazelene, decided to went against her promise not to tell anyone, and even told QN to delete the thread, but soon after decided to share my mental issues to those in #locker-room and continues to discuss it behind my back is something that I, and someone else, can’t just take in and ignore.
I’ve talked to Sol about this issue, but he stood by that I should contact Kazelene discreetly, but as some of you have already seen, nothing on the Direct Message is kept private by Kazelene’s standard.
So know, you know my name, and my current issues. And whatever you would like to hold on to it, spread it to everyone, or just laugh at it, I don’t really mind anymore, because I wasn’t hurt by it, but someone else were hurt by the fact I was being the target for the chatters behind closed doors.
I’m truly sorry for those who were not known about this small drama to have to read all of this. And I’m truly sorry to that someone to be sicken by the action I’ve been receiving so far.
We have decided to leave for our own good, since we aren’t belonged here anymore.
I hope, that Sol and the other Sommeliers, will keep this as a case study on how to take action on similar future disruptions.||
- đanh mêm changed his name to “Kamino” for the last time before leaving the server.
- Dennis deleted this message not long after.
- People were bretty mad.
- Chloe was found no longer in the server at some point around that day.
Afterthoughts: That night when I was having a chat with Astrelgraph I already felt slightly unease about Kamino (I had always thought there was something overdramatic about his posts on Instagram) particularly when he said he was doing this for “recognition”. Knowing his history of mental illness however, I decided to keep it to myself but my cynicism was very visible through my curt and tongue in cheek replies in the dm. Looking back I only felt like this was just one of his practical jokes that spun out of control before anyone knew once things set in motion. He was, after all only looking for attention from us. He got it. He felt like it wasn’t enough. He kept coming back again and again for more. Until we smelt through his bullshit.
I will refrain from saying anything spiteful and leave the final words to some of my good fellas who also got bamboozled big time:

24+ Instagram Statistics That Matter to Marketers in 2019
Are you using Instagram to connect with your audience?
And if not, should you?
Okay, that’s a loaded question.
Statistically speaking though, it makes business dollars and sense.
Scan these Instagram stats that show its breadth and depth worldwide. Then use them to shape your Instagram marketing strategy.
Bossy aren’t I?
Bonus: Download a free checklist that reveals the exact steps an adventure photographer used to grow from 0 to 110,000 followers on Instagram with no budget and no expensive gear.
Instagram user statistics
Who’s using Instagram? So nice of you to ask.
Well, over an eighth of the 7.6 billion people on the planet (and counting). A look at some Instagram user statistics to keep close to your marketing cuff.
1. 1 billion people use Instagram
Of the social networks, only Facebook and YouTube have more people logging in. With 500 million of them using Instagram—every day. Want (some of) them to ‘like’ your brand? Here’s how.
2. 80% of users are outside the U.S.
That’s a whole lot of global ad revenue for your products and services. With estimates of almost $7 billion in mobile ad revenue in 2018. Interested in doing business in India, Brazil, Indonesia, Turkey, Russia and Japan? Go for it. Tens of millions of active users for your global products.
3. 39% women, 30% men, for U.S. Instagrammers
See for yourself. Women more than men are using this photo sharing app. But the gap has decreased slightly the past couple years.
4. 59% of U.S. users are under 30
…between 18 and 29 years old. Conversely, 33 percent of Instagram users are between 30- and 49-years-old. Another thing, 70 percent of U.S. users have a post secondary education. Now go slice and dice your marketing campaign accordingly.
5. 72% of teens use Instagram, every day
Only second to Snapchat. Yet, 63 percent of 13- to 17-year-olds use Instagram daily, compared to 54 percent for Snapchat. Less users, more engagement on Instagram. All there for you to influence these young-uns with your t-shirts, bracelets, songs, videos, or whatever they like these days.
6. 95% of U.S. Instagrammers use Youtube
…followed by Facebook at 91 percent, and Snapchat at 60 percent. So what, you say? Tell a coherent story for your brand across these platforms. A nice bundle waiting to hear from you.
7. 35% of online adults use Instagram
…with 28 percent of them in the U.S. And they have money to buy your stuff. The right products for the right income earners. For those adult Instagram users:
30% earn up to $30K/year
42% earn $30K – $50K
32% earn $50K – $75K
42% earn $75K+
8. Quick view stats
Quite a few user stats so far, eh? Some more, consolidated. To keep things simple.
34% of Instagram users are millennials
22% of all Instagram users log in at least once a day
38% of users check Instagram multiple times a day
25% of smartphone owners use Instagram
That’s some of the who’s, now on to some of the how’s…
Instagram usage statistics
How are people using Instagram? Another great question.
Let’s learn some of the hows with these Instagram user statistics.
9. Under-25-year-olds use Instagram 32 minutes a day
Compared to 24 minutes per day for 25 and older. This is more than before. Why? Instagram stories. They make it easy to add a creative flair to any photo or video. You can do the same for your business.
10. Users ‘like’ 4.2 billion posts per day
…making Instagram the happiest place on the internet. And that was in 2016 when there were only 500 million Instagrammers. Is your brand feeling lonely? Get on the ‘like’ band-wagon to make new business friends. Again, here’s how.
11. 95 million posts per day
And that was in 2016. Surely, a (large) portion of that action is open to your products. What are you waiting for?
12. 400 million Stories a day
Up from 300 million in October 2017. Most brands (2 million of them) are telling their stories with Stories. Over 50 percent one month in 2017. With a third of the most viewed Stories created by businesses. It’s pretty obvious Stories work for brands, unless you’re not telling any.
13. 80% increase, year-by-year, for videos
…while the number of videos created each day quadrupled from 2017. Yup, users love their video posts, right from the start. When they launched in 2013, 5 million videos were uploaded in the first 24 hours. Create and run a campaign to feed these video-carnivores. Like Lionsgate UK did for their flick.
14. 143M followers for Selena Gomez
With Christiano Renaldo, Beyoncé, and my fav, Dwayne Johnson, the Rock—all between 141 and 115 million Instagram groupies. The most popular Brand on Instagram? National Geographic, with over 91 million fans. Shoes, soccer, space, and underwear, too. Clearly, brands of all kinds are appealing to their people on Instagram.

Alright. Speaking from my heart for over an hour to someone who puts those thoughts into paid words can be hard for me. The older I get the more I want my voice to be mine. This is all apart of my work within an industry that’s been around longer than all of us have been. The purpose of my interview was three fold. My work with A21, my new collection with Coach, and some new music. As I’m aware there will always be interests in one’s personal life because that’s the pace of our ‘social’ generation. I’m grateful for my position and I will always find ways to make my job more about others and giving back— all while having the best time with my music, fashion, film and my love for learning about the world that I’m eager to tap into more and more. Church is a name for something far more personal. There’s always agenda seeking information on such a subject and I understand why. Rarely do I mention church (and I didn’t) but I’ll always feel comfortable talking about my values and beliefs. I respect that from everyone and anyone. I understand that reporters are working to grab the attention of a reader, however I will always work to ensure that what is public represents my truth. I’m a bit bummed but rarely surprised. Y’all know me and my heart. I can’t help it. So I’ll post some of MY photos from the collection and work with A21. My heart. And maybe edit my actual lyrics as you will all hear it soon ???? I love you guys to the moon and back. For more information on the work I do with A21 please, please visit link in my bio. So much more on that soon!

Top Twitter Tips For Business
New Post has been published on https://myupdatesystems.com/2017/04/14/top-twitter-tips-for-business/
Top Twitter Tips For Business
Twitter has been a powerful asset for my business!  It’s one of those things that has really fit me. I’m not really a sociable person in real life but it really fits me well and it’s been a huge asset for my business. I got really into it last November or December. I have a list here of things right off the top of my head that I noticed that people do wrong and that people should be doing and things that I do that makes twitter work.
1. Picture: Your picture (the avatar picture) in almost all cases should be a picture of you. You don’t have to have a portrait quality picture, that’s not really necessary. What’s really important is it’s a picture of you.
2. Username: In almost all cases, your username needs to be your first and last names. You need to have your name viewable. If you want to use your business name, go ahead but then also include your real name so that when they click on your avatar, they will see your real name. I see too many businesses on Twitter, people trying to run an online business and don’t tell their names – that is crazy! You must have your name up there. I just use Steve Weber, that’s my username and a lot of marketers, that’s just what they use. If you have a choice (unless you have a really good reason not to), use your name as your username. You can change usernames any time you like.
3. Tweets: 90 to 95% of the “tweets” need to be about good content. Say something worthwhile! It doesn’t have to be about your niche, your area; it can just be about life in general or current events. Post a topic worth reading and is interesting enough to catch people’s attention. Point people to links on your site or your blog, to cool links that you found on the Internet. Direct people into that kind of content, that’s relative to either your specific niche or to a lot of people who are into Internet and computer because those are the ones in general who are always on Twitter. A lot of people are interested in all kinds, all things on the Internet. About 95% of the time, (that sounds like a lot, but really you need to do that) you are sending them content and not some kind of offer to buy something.
4. Blog: A lot of times, I create blog posts that have really good content in them; but also I have an offer on that page. So it’s not like I’m sending them right to a sales page. I send them to a blog post that has really good information and says, “By the way, here is a link to an offer or here’s a link to a free download.” Most of the time I have a video on that page and they see that I sent them to my page with really good content or to somebody else’s really good content. You just can’t put up every other tweet to be a link to a sales page. You just can’t do that. That just totally defeats your purpose.
5. Be Consistent: If you are not consistent, then don’t bother. Don’t waste your time. If you’re going to get on Twitter once or twice a week, just forget it. You are just wasting the time that you’re on twitter. If you want to make twitter work as a marketing tool, you have to get on it every single day. Sure, on an emergency or something that came up that you cannot get onto your computer, that happens, but if Twitter is going to work as a marketing tool for you, you have to log in and check your account every single day. Not all day! You don’t have to be on there every hour, every day. However, you need to be on there to check the replies and check your direct messages and respond back to people, and communicate with people and put some tweets up and keep yourself relevant, keep your account moving forward and keep your account out there in front of people. You just have to do it. If you can’t do that, it may not be for you. You don’t have to use Twitter as a marketing tool. If you can’t be relatively consistent in using Twitter then don’t waste your time but it is a very powerful tool. If you choose to do that, if it fits you, then go for it. If it doesn’t, then don’t waste your time by once or twice a week getting on there.
6. Always Be Present. Always reply; always check your direct messages (DMs) throughout the day. Every time you get on twitter, you should always check your DMs and always check your replies. I highly suggest you use Tweetdeck; it makes this whole process of keeping up with your DMs and your replies easier. If you just use the web interface for twitter, it’s too much work trying to keep up with all that stuff. But Tweetdeck makes it a whole lot easier because it keeps track of that stuff right on the screen for you.
7. Be Social. If people re-tweet you, if they have a little re-tweet right in front of your tweet, re-tweet it to their followers. Always thank them, or say something nice to them, reply or add them to your follow Friday list — something to acknowledge them. Be social, be nice, recognize and appreciate them. Check your daily feed in twitter, look at some people and try to follow people. Whenever you are on twitter, try to always respond to somebody, you have to be social. You will be amazed at the connections and the contacts you’ll make if you’ll do that.
8. Make “Retweetable” Tweets. Figure out ways to create tweets that will be re-tweeted. Kind of experiment and see what your followers will re-tweet. Remember, once they re-tweet your tweet, then you’re showing it to all their followers. Then, some of those followers will re-tweet, and so it just magnifies in it and it’s snowball’s re-twitter. Different groups will respond differently to different things. So try to work on what your followers will re-tweet, do whatever it takes with your followers. It’s very important to spread your account out there. It will really spread like wildfire if you can get 2 to 3 or 4 or 5 retweets a day because it adds up.
I do motivational tweets once or twice a day, for example, motivational quotes. They always get re-tweeted like hit across twitter. Just things like that and things related to your niche. If you are targeting your followers like I teach you in a Twitter blast, you can tweet about your niche. That will get re-tweeted a lot. If you have done your targeting work correctly, that will work really well.
9. Unfollow people who do not follow you. Now, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t give this person a week or so, usually, because some people are not that current. It takes some people time to get up to speed on twitter. If you follow on somebody, and they are not following you in a day or two, well don’t just un-follow them then. Give them ample time before you un-follow them because if they are like I was (early on, I signed up last May and I hardly did anything with twitter until November), then you might just un-follow someone who can be worth a good follower.  They might be like me at the start, but would, later on, use twitter a lot, so give people time.
You need to go to your following — the people that you are following and go into the pages. Go backward and find that last page where there are people who are not following you. If there is no direct message option, that means they’re not following you. So then you un-follow them and you work from the back of your list up. You can stop where you think it’s enough, it depends on how many followers you have, but you don’t work all the way into the front of your list. You give those people time to follow you. But keep up with that, don’t make that drudgery, don’t let that get out of hand, where every two or three or four days, go on and un-follow people who aren’t following you over time. But like what I’ve said, do give them time to follow you initially.
10. Tweetdeck. You really need to learn how to use Tweetdeck. If you have been using the web interface, and then you try TweetDeck, you will not like it. Most people don’t like TweetDeck when they first go to it because it’s something new and they are not used to it. They are used to using twitter on the web, and it worked and they’re just not used to it. It takes a time to get used to it. Well, trust me, if you are marketing with twitter, you need TweetDeck because it keeps track of your replies and your DMs right on your screen, and you can delete them in there unlike in the web interface.
11. Tweetlater. Now, there’s way to purge your DMs through tweetlater.com (it’s free!) There is no easy way to purge your DMs within twitter itself. It’s very handy because you don’t have to manually delete your messages (that’s a pain) and you have an option to delete DMs older than 7 days or 30 days. Keep up with those direct messages and use tweet later to purge those old direct messages since twitter doesn’t have a mechanism for doing that.
12. Auto-follow. A lot of third party tools out there, like tweetlater.com have what they call the auto-follow feature. So you could set that up so that when somebody follows you, your account automatically follows back. Now I do have that setup, and the reason I do (there are pros and cons and I will tell you what they are) is because there are so many people following me that for us to go in I have to follow all those people. It just saves a lot of time in the long run to auto-follow those people.
Now, I’ll tell you the downside to that is when you see these porn type scammers out there. These people that you really don’t want to associate with, if they follow you, well you’re account’s going to follow them too. And it looks kind of funky if somebody doesn’t understand the process and they come in and look at your account and they see that you are following these porn-looking people. You just have to take the good and the bad there. For us (we’ve talked about this a lot,) and we think it’s better for us if we auto-follow. So kind of do that as you please, as you think and kind of experiment with that. We omit and delete those people if we see them, but there’s so many of them, it’s hard to do.
13. Tracking Tip. One last little tip that I’ve started using that’s working really well. Tweetdeck has a way that you could follow groups of people but it doesn’t work worth anything. It just isn’t very good. Well, I will just give you an example of myself in the area of Internet marketing. There are about 20 people that I really want to keep track of, that I want to socialize with a lot because I can make connections with these people and get to know them. They have big lists and it just works really well if I could get to know these people. Well, it takes a long time to go up into the browser and go to each one of their sites, so here is how I did this and this is a huge piece of advice. You’re going to love this.
I use Firefox for my browser, for my normal twitter and everything else. I do not use Internet Explorer very much. But on my computer, I have gone to Internet Explorer and set up another twitter account and I’ve gone in and follow all those twenty people that I want to keep track of. On my computer, I always have that minimized, I can go to my Internet Explorer and go to that other account and refresh it and I can see what these other 20 people are talking about recently. I can keep track of all twenty people real easy with that other twitter account.
Now, if somebody there says something that I want to respond to, then I go back to Firefox which I am logged into my regular twitter account, and up in Firefox, I can save (you could use bookmarks or whatever, but I drop them onto the toolbar at the top), I have all twenty of those addresses so I just click that little arrow and all twenty addresses for their twitter home pages drop down. There’s each one of their feed and I just click on the one that I want to talk to that I know just tweeted about something. There’s their feed and I can hit reply and I can talk to them right there. That works really well.
No matter which niche you’re in, no matter which area you are in, you need to seek out those relationships with people who are connected in those same areas as you are and communicate with them and socialize with them. You’ll be amazed at the results from doing that alone.  It’s a little complicated and I wish there was an easier way to do it but that works really well once you begin using that other browser with that other twitter account to follow those specific people that you want to keep track of.

100 Small Changes You Can Make To Improve Your Health
Not every change you make to live a healthier lifestyle has to be drastic. Many people go balls to the wall and cut out all their carbs or go from never running to training for a marathon.
The problem? Most realize how difficult such a drastic change can be and bail on their goal.
It’s better to take baby steps on your quest to build a healthier, stronger version of yourself. Pick one or two of the changes below and focus on those. Once you’re comfortable with the changes you made, pick up a few more.
1. Cut out soda.
2. Cut out juices.
3. Drink more water (8 8-oz cups per day).
4. Walk to work if distance permits.
5. Get a gym membership.
6. Come up with a workout plan that involves hitting the gym at least 3x a week.
7. Buy fruit instead of cookies and donuts.
8. Eat more vegetables. The fiber and nutrients will keep you full and prevent overeating.
9. Consume 25g fiber per day if you are female, 38g for males.
10. Drink less coffee so that you do not rely on caffeine.
11. Get 8-10 hours of sleep.
12. Go on a run at least once a week.
13. Read a blog on bettering your health and/or fitness at least once a week.
14. Plan your meals ahead of time so that you don’t give in to cravings when come meal time.
15. Purge your pantry of all junk (and no, not by eating it).
16. Try cooking healthy recipe instead of eating out.
17. Talk to someone new at the gym every week. Making friends will make you enjoy your time there and want to return.
18. Buy egg whites instead of only whole eggs.
19. Try turkey bacon instead of pork bacon (I eat both depending on the occasion).
20. Keep an exercise log so you can see that you are making progress.
21. Invest in healthier snack foods such as nuts, fruit, snap peas, baby carrots, etc.
22. Set a goal and don’t stop until it’s achieved.
23. Set baby goals with corresponding rewards to encourage you along the way.
24. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, whether that be talking to a fit friend or hiring a fitness professional.
25. Understand your body. Figure out the number of calories you can consume daily to maintain, gain, or lose weight.
26. Avoid drinking to get drunk except on special occasions (it really shouldn’t be an end-of-the-week habit).
27. That said, restrict yourself to 1-2 alcoholic beverages when you do drink casually.
28. Increase your protein intake. It will keep you full and promote recovery from exercise.
29. Take a multivitamin. Most of us do not get the essential micronutrients we need day to day.
30. Take a fish oil supplement. Omega-3’s are essential for a strong heart.
31. Go on walks after eating large meals.
32. Wake up an hour earlier (given you slept enough hours) and get moving. You’ll be more productive if you start the day off with a little exercise.
33. Avoid movie theatre popcorn if you can. That stuff is dangerous. A large bucket can contain over 1000 calories easily.
34. Find and start a fitness program.
35. If you smoke, stop.
36. Pick up a sport you want to try.
37. Re-pick up a sport you stopped participating in.
38. Join health initiatives and challenges at the workplace.
39. If you’ve been sitting for over an hour, get up and walk around — like right now if it applies.
40. Take your dog on a walk! If you have one of course. The exercise isn’t just for your pup.
41. Vacuum the house. It’ll get you moving and can burn up to 300 calories per hour!
42. Avoid artificial sweeteners. If you need one, try Stevia.
43. Drink skim milk instead of whole milk.
44. Incorporate a resistance training routine instead of only performing cardio. It promotes strong bones and faster metabolism.
45. Drain the bacon grease before frying your eggs!
46. If you are eat a salad, avoid dousing it in dressing. A single serving of ranch dressing can be up to 150 calories.
47. Trouble sleeping through the night? Decrease caffeine intake. Especially within 5 hours of bedtime.
48. Read a book. Stimulating your mind promotes physical health more than you know.
49. Choose baked chips or veggie chips instead of regular ones.
50. Avoid deep fried foods. Baked or grilled versions are better choices.
51. Buy fresh veggies over canned or frozen ones if possible.
52. Do not drink Fireball. Stuff has antifreeze in it.
53. When eating out, pick a healthier option. It’ll taste better than you expect.
54. Write your thoughts out every once in awhile. Keep a diary. Write an article. It helps relieve stress.
55. Talking to people also relieves stress. Get out there and be social. Don’t hold things in.
56. Choose leaner meats for your sandwiches and meals.
57. Don’t skip meals too often. Your body needs food for energy.
58. Start a running or workout group amongst your friends and/or colleagues.
59. Listen to music you enjoy. It soothes.
60. Buy whole grain breads and pastas over instead of white.
61. Order brown rice instead of white rice at Chinese restaurants.
62. When your family or workplace orders donuts and you can’t resist, only take one.
63. Use low or non-fat versions of sauces. Those tiny little packets of Chick-Fil-A Sauce have 140 calories!
64. Rely less on Ibuprofen for hangovers and more on water and hydration.
65. Find a workout buddy! The extra accountability will keep you, well, accountable.
66. Take naps when exhausted instead of chugging more caffeine. Listening to your body goes a long way.
67. Substitute unsweetened apple sauce for butter when baking.
68. Sweeten with Stevia instead of sugar when baking. A 1:1 ratio works well.
69. Take a green drink supplement if you don’t get a wide range of vegetables and fruits daily.
70. Meditate. Occasionally taking a moment of silence to be inside your own mind and simply think can promote mental health and relaxation.
71. Eat until satisfied, not full.
72. Prep meals over the weekend so that you have healthy and readily available options throughout the week.
73. Snack less and eat more filling meals.
74. Do mini workouts during commercial breaks. Push ups, sit ups, crunches, planks, and squats are all prime candidates.
75. If pressed for time in the gym, perform compound movements that hit large numbers of muscles such as squats and pullups.
76. Wait 10 minutes after eating meals to make sure you’re actually still hungry before going for a post-meal snack. It takes time for your brain to catch up to your belly sometimes.
77. Read food labels. Knowing how much protein, fat, and carbs you’re consuming is key to understanding your nutrition.
78. If the nutrition label indicates any trans-fats, do not eat that food. Trans-fats clog your arteries.
79. Learn to refuse unhealthy foods when they are offered to you. Learning to say no is a good lesson to learn for every aspect of life. You can’t make everyone happy.
80. Take the stairs instead of the elevator.
81. Get off the internet sometimes and go outside. We spend too much time on Facebook and Twitter and not enough moving around.
82. Add lemon to your water. It aids digestion by clearing the digestive tract.
83. Stretch tight or sore muscles. Many of us have become immobile with age and lack of exercise. Stretching can get you moving and functioning properly again.
84. Use non-stick spray instead of butter and oil when pan-frying foods.
85. Drink your coffee black. Sugar and creamer add unnecessary calories and really add up over time if you’re a coffee drinker.
86. Consume 1 tbsp of Apple Cider Vinegar daily to prevent heartburn and acid reflux.
87. Get up to get the remote instead of asking for it to be passed to your lazy bum.
88. Incorporate a day to go hiking on your vacations. Hiking can burn anywhere from 300 to 600 calories per hour.
89. Sign up for a 5k or 10k. You’re more likely to do something if you pay for it. This also provides a sense of urgency because you can’t push back the date.
90. Stop waiting and take out the garbage before it overflows. Just another way to get moving. You’ll also get that bonus sense of accomplishment that comes with having a nice, clean, empty trash can (or is that just me?).
91. Request no butter and no oil at restaurants. Excess fats really pack on the calories.
92. Pass on the fries. They are high carb and high fat, which means extra high calorie. Save them for cheat meals.
93. Get some sun. Vitamin D deficiency is more common now than ever. Excess sun can be detrimental to your skin health, but most people don’t get enough.
94. Perform both high intensity and low-intensity exercises — anything from walking to burpees. This ensures that your body becomes efficient using both aerobic and anaerobic energy systems.
95. Hit the pool! Swimming for fitness burns more calories than running. Don’t believe me? Google Michael Phelps’ 12,000 calorie diet.
96. Pace during long phone calls. It may sound silly, but the extra steps really add up. I’ve paced over 1500 steps back and forth while talking on the phone. That’s almost an entire mile!
97. Load up a quarter to half of your dinner plate with veggies. Portion control helps prevent overeating.
98. Stop thinking and start doing. If you’re “thinking about” getting in shape or starting a program, JUST DO IT.
99. Use cheat meals instead of cheat days. A full day of cheating can throw off your progress pretty badly if you can eat a large enough amount of food. It’s difficult to do this with a single cheat meal though.
100. At Chipotle, get a bowl instead of the burrito.
