If the Yns from Crys's fics were to meet, what would happen?

OKAY SO LIKE, HI, you'll only get this if you've read at least two of Crys's (@armytinyzenmoa) series cause, its alot to cover.

She already did this for Park Yn (Zemblanity) and Lee Yn (TSTL) but I'm doing it for:

Park Yn - Zemblanity (dumbass number one)

Yn - Glitched (dumbass number two, more logical, still slow.)

Byun Yn - LR (confident hoe, smart ass bitch, love to see it.)

Lee Yn - TSTL (a badass, a fucking queen, my favroite Yn, my baby, will fight for her/him period)

Only these Yns cause I didnt read the other series with Yeonjun and Seonghwa(?) and I don't have enough info on Jung Yn (Prominence) so four for now. I will update it when more Yns are added (series wise) 🙄❤.

Also, THIS IS CRACK. THE TYPOS ARE IMMACULATE but its litterally crack + crack writing style (and no tags cause the series aren't my work so the tags below are litterally... just there cause some of yall won't know about her stories SO IF YOU DONT, DONT READ BEYONG THIS POINT).

If Byun Yn and Lee Yn were to meet in the TSTL TL!:

Byun and Lee Yn are like lowkey opposites but have the same upbringing traumatic so they can relate to each other.

Best fucking friends (sorry Lucas, Jeno).

They rob banks together period point blank.

Lee is a lot less reckless than Byun but is a lot more of a bitch.

Byun, smarter than the two since she's a fking genius but Lee is a lot more logical when it comes to surviving.

*cough* mafia *cough*.

Bye, theyd run from the cops for fun and if they get caught, Lee would just threatened them with her grandfather's name 😭🤚🏾

Lee Yn would ask Byun Yn to help them burn down SM and Byun would be like, "hold on, I can make a nuclear explosion to disintegrate all the malicious experiments they're performing on people but somehow save all the people affected."

And they'd run with it.

They'd give Baekyun a scare cause he's technically (not really) related to one and is the other's guardian so LR! Baek would kill him if his sister isn't back in one piece.

Taemin wouldn't understand what was happening but if it were to occur, he'd hope that both of them DON'T DIE since he doesn't want the Avengers and everyone else on his ass.

Ten would instigate Byun Yn into fighting him.

No actually.

He wouldn't get his ass beat because its like a two hour sparring match that Baekhyun breaks up.

Lucas is just... there. Confused on who's his best friend but figures it out when Byun Yn pushes him back saying, "hugs are reversed for Jeno."

Mark is fucking tired, probably draws his gun upon seeing two but then grumbles under his breath, "I'm not even surprised."

Lee Yn joins him on a walk while Byun Yn takes all the attention cause honestly, same.

Jongin asks Byun Yn on how to recharge in case of no energy source... cause well, she's a genius.

Byun Yn and Taeyong become friends and hack in SM's system to get all the shady shit they have on Sooman and replace the files with pictures of cats.

Yuh.

The only reason Yn isn't dead is because the Avengers saved her before she could die cause they thought it was Byun (deadass wouldve saved her either way but like... priorities.)

Yn wouldn't be TOO big of a dumbass, just very very curious and screw something up which meant that Jeno would try to kill her but Byun would be like "no, dont kill my useless twin."

Develops a crush on Jaemin, Chenle and Jisung and her become friends because she isn't as reckless as Byun and Renjun... is just tired and doesn't mind her at all.

If Byun Yn and Park Yn met in Zemb TL!:

Poor Park Yn would be so mfk confused and terrified and probably cling onto Byun Yn, sobbing into her chest while the other is like, "relax, I can't die here for some reason. If I could then you'd probably have multiple organizations run to kill you--- but don't cry?"

Park Yn would have to explain to YangYang not to take her unless he wants to die.

Ten and Byun Yn become friends, I don't make the rules.

They even become allies but Byun Yn wants to know where it'll go.

Hendery is confused, Lucas is even more confused, Sicheng thinks he fucked up again (IM SORRY), YangYang is intrigued, Kun is tired and tries warning her about Ten but doesn't listen, Park Yn has panic attacks because Byun Yn is being dumb and goes with Ten.

Though, Byun Yn meets her up later and says, "can you get me to a control panel, I wanna get out of here, this place is too crowded and I'm hungry."

Not because Ten tried killing her and she knocked him out

Park Yn would try explaining that they can't escape and Byun would interupt, "don't take me for a dumbass."

BRUH THEYD DEADASS WALK OUT OF SECTOR V NO PROBLEM.

Park Yn asks how Byun Yn did it and she'd be explaining things she wouldn't understand, "matrix, quatrums, space, matter, timeliness and interacting forcefields."

Park Yn would just nod and not even bother.

She'd also tell Byun about all the dumb shit that happened and the other would be like,

"Suprised you aren't dead yet and you really haven't seen anything, come to my world."

Park Yn is ✨traumatized✨

If Lee Yn were to met Park Yn in TSTL TL!(specifically for this one, Lee Yn is a girl because of the scenario):

They're litterally polar opposites, one of them is going to kill the other.

So like after running and getting back to base, Lee would litterally chase Park ALL OVER THE PLACE trying to get to her.

an in-depth breakdown of b*ruto episode 178

sorry i’m late i was lost on the path of life

tl;dr yeah ok i can have my hopes and dreams about what specifically i would want but. BUT. honestly yeah the episode was more or less what i expected would actually be in it from the preview, so i can’t complain. i still sobbed!!! that’s all i really wanted!!

time to rewatch it! (warning: long post. LOL)

obviously this is nothing new but i still can’t get over how nice the exterior to the nara household is, good for them. i don’t think i noticed the solar panel before? good for them!

i’m entertained at how the episode does open with shikadai tying his hair as he walks, i just think it’s neat. i love how the camera frames it like seeing a nara with their hair down is something forbidden we’re not mean to see

temari has purple slippers i dedicate her commitment to her favorite color. (also i am Just Saying... purple........ the bisexual flag--)

yeahhhh ok so. i get the need for wanting to frame the narrative like this, but this really doesn’t make any sense. shikadai is 12, and is also a chuunin, like... he should know by now that his dad is always kinda a mess on this day of the year, and why that is. and even if he honestly really did just forget, the fact that he’s still asking his dad why he’s not at work while looking at the way his parents are dressed... did this not clue you in or what????

the fact that shikamaru’s up and ready (i really don’t think he gets much sleep on this day, every year...), and it’s shikadai who’s just getting up. i do think it’s cute that we do get to see a tiiiiiny bit of temari’s parenting that doesn’t involve being an out of character irrationally angry woman when she tells shikadai to not come crying to her when he’s late in getting ready, yeah that definitely sounds way more like her lol

temari says she told him about all of this the other day (shikadai blatantly forgot, he tries to pretend he didn’t but she doesn’t press him for it)... that does make me emotional thinking like. she is pretty painfully aware of how hard this is on shikamaru, and days in advance told shikadai about it, to try to make sure he understands what his father is going through........ she really does care about him so, so much.

i said this based off the preview, but... i would like to interpret that temari is purposefully doing the dishes(/rest of house chores) to give him space to grieve.......

the fact that while explaining what today is, shikamaru has to get up, leave the room, and talk while not facing his family, as if he wouldn’t be able to say the words as easily while looking at them........ god. that. that hurts.

tsunade being the one to give this speech kinda feels random? like yeah she was the one that was kage during the war but...? i do feel like it would have been more fitting to have naruto say the speech since the whole entire point of the war was to protect him (and bee) but ????? ok

no one in the uzumaki family talks during this episode which is fine by me LOL. i would assume the memorial is on the day the war ended (which would also make it naruto’s birthday/memorial of the kyuubi invasion) but if it is, it’s never stated. maybe it’s the day the war started, idk

the collection of people up front feels pretty random??? kakashi as the previous hokage, sure, guy i guess because of how important his contribution the war against madara was and also because he is kakashi’s husband, shizune kinda has to be there if tusnade is, but... iruka? like yeah he is vital to the narrative, but to konoha? he is the headmaster of the academy i think now so i guess...? but then? ibiki??? anko??? i say this as someone that REALLY loves anko, she was my favorite character as a kid and i still love her but,,, huh? SHE WAS KNOCKED OUT DURNG THE WHOLE WAR!!??!?

then you see everyone that was in naruto’s class + team guy + sai except hinata is in the crowd. which of course to the narrative, to us the readers, those are the main characters (if you ignore how more or less everyone was super shafted throughout all of part 2) but!!! team guy’s only real connection to the rest of them is that they took the chuunin exams together, and neji and hinata were are cousins. that’s about it. was it that specifically all of these characters made such a contribution to the war compared to every other single shinobi from konoha that lived ??????

shikamaru staring up to the sky did made my heart clench... no matter how different he is now than he was when he was a 12 year old genin...... i do feel like he’s never entirely ditched his true self of just wanting to stare at the clouds all day.... i’m not entirely sure what the intent was here, but i’m sure there’s supposed to be some symbolism here. the sky is actually nearly entirely clear (the way is framed, there’s only a tiny cloud in the corner,) and then he closes his eyes and hums. maybe it’s supposed to be about the closure he gets in this episode...

ok and then here’s ao cool whatever. since i only skim through b*ruto for the characters that i care about i do not really careeeee since i won’t watch again until something interesting happens to said characters that i care about LOL

?? who voiced the receptionist they sound familiar but i can’t place it at all

katasuke is the bitch that made the scientific ninja tool for b*ruto so he could cheat in the exam right

what is ao doing here. is he supposed to be doing something evil. it sure looks that way

... who is the glasses orange scarf guy??? he kinda looks like a mix between udon and ebisu and aoba but i know he’s not any one of them lol

TEMARI AND KARUI STANDING NEXT TO EACH OTHER... i don’t think in any media they’ve ever??? ACTUALLY TALKED TO EACH OTHER???? BUT THEY SHOULD BE CLOSE FOR THE OBVIOUS REASON....... I’LL TAKE THESE CRUMBS THOUGH THANK YOU

OKKKKK admittedly like. in terms of Pleasing Me, Personally, it’s a damned if you do, dammed if you don’t situation like.... they do kinda HAVE to acknowledge that neji died during the war so. i appreciate that hinata like........ cares. i guess. i’ll try to not post the whole rant about why neji’s death was (logistically how he died aside) narratively and thematically absolute bullshit, kishi (i believe) saying that neji died so he could play cupid for naruto and hinata like!!! fuck off with that shit!!! maybe if it wasn’t for the goddamn “naruto-kun’s big warm manly hand” line i would feel a little bit actual sad but no.

WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOSHINO AND CHOUZA HELLO!?!?!?!? COULD YOU REALLY NOT HAVE PUT THEM IN THE CROWD??

ino also has an unnamed mother that the anime made up that i believe was only in like a single episode (and was cameoed in RtN i think?) but she should still be like. Alive. so her too.

MITSUKI PLACING FLOWERS IS SO FUNNY TO ME LIKE YOU DO KNOW YOUR PARENT’S SUBORDINATE/DOUBLE CROSS TRAITOR WHATEVER DID CAUSE THE WAR RIGHT BFIOBU*EHW$

aaand. here’s shikamaru and ino’s conversation. i’m not sure if i can put this into words, but... just... the way that they talk to each other, the weight of 15+ years of sadness about this, the way that they just!! fully know what the other is going through, the way that they’ve known each other for their whole lives and survived through everything together, the way i feel like they’ve avoided talking about this topic as much as possible over the years, hell even during this conversation the way they’re almost bickering to avoid having to directly confront their feelings, but it is unavoidable.......

i also do wonder what their relationship with each other’s parents were while growing up: shikamaru does refer to inoichi as “inoichi-san” here, contrast to how their kids all call each other’s parents just “uncle” or “aunt”

ok since i did go back to rewatch the episode from shippuden right before watching this one for the first time i do wish a liiiittle less of the episode was about this flashback with the same reused footage like i get that they do have to put it in here but Still.

THE FACT THAT SHIKAMARU IS SMILING WHILE RECALLING WHAT HAPPENED, AND THAT THERE’S A LAUGH IN HIS VOICE........ I WANT TO CRY AGAIN

ok ok all week i tried to not imagine what shikamaru and ino’s conversation would be since i wanted to go all “surprise me!!” BUT??? BUT. SHIKAMARU ASKING INO IF SHE THINKS THAT THEIR FATHERS HONESTLY, TRULY BELIEVED IN THEM?? HE’S BEEN THINKING ABOUT THAT ON EVERY SINGLE DAY THIS YEAR THESE PAST 15+ YEARS, AND SURELY IT’S ALWAYS BEEN AT THE BACK OF HIS MIND ALL THIS TIME!?!?! of course. OF COURSE HE WOULD FEEL THIS WAY!!! HE’D HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING FOR SURE OR EVER FINDING OUT!!! like of course we as the readers know that shikaku and inoichi absolutely 200% felt that way but... from his perspective... you know what i don’t even think this idea ever crossed my mind HOLD ON THAT IS THE SOUND OF MY HEART SHATTERING--

and then he just... smiles. says that he won’t let that get him down, since it’s not like they’ll ever find out anyways. sure, it’s been 15+ years, he has had to have largely come to terms with everything by now, but...... still....

then he talks about the idea that the day will come and leave everything in the hands of their sons (now looking over at team 10′s turn to place flowers) just like their dads did... it is worded like a question, but showtaro morikubo’s absolute masterful performance does. it does portray a tone like he is absolutely 100% sure that it’ll happen, one day...

i’ve said this before but. i KNOW shikamaru has definitely spent so much time thinking about this. sure it hasn’t ever really been brought up on-screen (yet), but....... i want to see him talking about a direct contrast on what his grand plan through life he thought of by age 12, ending with him passing away by old age. obviously he did a complete 180 on they type of person he wanted as a wife LOL. it is kinda brought up at the start of shikamaru hiden while he visits the grave, says he hasn’t found anyone he’d give his life to protect... (well. now he has a son where if you see the recent chapters he is very, VERY protective of.) but i would like to see this change in his character be directly be brought up and examined

........ that being SAID. i sure hope neither of them actually like. die. i’m GOOD, thank you. they sure as hell can’t until they’re ready to pass things down to their sons, at least. until then, absolutely zero narrative reason to do so, but...... still. we don’t need to make everything an EXACT copy of what happened in naruto you can let them live kthx

they both say “what kind of half-baked response is that!” and then laugh just. I LOVE THEM SO SO MUCH TEAM 10 IS FOREVER

there is some symbolism in how ao walks over from a really dark shadowy area into the light when he decides that he has to pay his respects...

i do like how he does reflect on how he really should have come here earlier, but better late than never i suppose

i was expecting a... more elaborate explanation for how he lived??? especially since he was standing RIGHT NEXT to shikaku and inoichi... he just. happened to survive for whatever reason while every single other person died on impact

that survivor’s guilt does hurt to see

i do like seeing how he chooses to do something with his life, aside from being a shinobi, and live it to the fullest for the sake of everyone that died in the explosion. that’s nice

ino saying “i’m sure are fathers are happy!” AAAAAAAAAAA

IN HINDSIGHT....... I ABSOLUTELY SOULD’VE PREDICTED SOMEONE WOULD DROP A “YOU LOOK SO MUCH LIKE YOUR FATHER” AT SOME POINT IN THE EPISODE...... and. i did kinda chuckle, because like, no shit duh lmao. i’m sure shikamaru heard that all the time as a kid!!! and hell, i’m sure he still gets it from time to time over the years up to this day. BUT LIKE... SHIKAMARU’S FACE. HE LOOKS LIKE THAT, RIGHT NOW, IT’S ACTUALLY SOMETHING HE REALLY, REALLY NEEDED TO HEAR. LET ME CRY

hearing shikamaru say oyaji, and then the way his tone suddenly shifts to something very... quiet and somber? when he says “nara shikaku”..... something about that. man.... also it’s hard to see but there is a sweat drop on his face as he says all of this...

“sometimes, i end up wondering...” don’t lie to yourself. you think about this so, so much........

the flashback where ao says “listen to me calmly” when he says the bomb is coming this way sure reminds me of ino telling shikamaru to stay calm as she tells him that his son has a bomb around his neck

THE ADDED PART OF THE FLASHBACK WITH THEIR VERY LAST MOMENTS...... THE WAY THEY’RE SMILING AND JUST??? BELIEVE IN THEIR KIDS IN THE VERY END. just like how it’s described in shikamaru hiden where the narrative says that shikaku was a shinobi until his very last breaths-- actually, no. in the very end he was a father.......

“THEY BELIEVED IN YOU, WITHOUT A HINT OF DOUBT.”

INO STARTS TEARING UP BUT I CALL ABSOLUTE BS THAT SHIKAMARU WOULDN’T ALSO JUST BURST ONTO TEARS ON THE SPOT, HE MAY BE 32 WHATEVER YEARS OLD NOW BUT... HE IS STILL SUCH A CRYBABY AT HEART, HIS ENTIRE CIRCLE OF LOVED ONES KNOW THIS.

i do wonder, is this the same hillside that shikamaru went to after asuma’s death...? (only in the manga tho, the anime had him on a rooftop instead)

is that??? someone watching them in the back left?? when shikadai finds him? i cannot tell what that is

i am. trying to follow temari’s logic of telling shikadai to go find shikamaru and... not also going with him?? i mean i figured from the preview that, yeah it does look like it’s only the two of them, but... i can’t come up with a reason. not a super big deal but. obviously my heart yearns for that shikatema content that’s ok i can write my own fanfic i guess!!!!

also like...... i imagine it can’t be THAT hard to find him, i’m sure that he only has a small handful of Spots Good For Coping(™) when he just needs to be by himself, that i would Think his wife would know where they are. and said wife would tell shikadai. but idk

after all of this, shikamaru wants to just treat his son to go eat out whatever he wants...!! what a good father

....... now like. the logic of “temari is currently making dinner and that’s why she’s a) not there and b) told shikadai to go fetch is father” would make perfect sense. but... if they’re going out to get food then... no?? shikadai would interject to say so if that was the case..... that makes this all make no sense seriously what the hell is she doing

i do wish that like. shikadai like.... uh. actually learned about more shikaku?? this scene is more brief than i thought it would be idk i felt like it would be part of the middle of the episode and not at the end, oh well. he’ll find out in due time

THAT BEING SAID... STILL. THE ENDING WHERE HE JUST CARES SO SO SO SO MUCH ABOUT SHIKADAI!!!! WONDERING IF HE’S WATCHING HIS BACK!!! I LOVE THEM I LOVE THEMMMMM

not quite sure whatever ao is doing at the end of the episode???? IS IT EVIL??? i mean like that it’s him catching a leaf seems like he’s going against konoha but i mean konoha fucking sucks so. that is not evil i guess LOL

whatever not like i’ll care to actually find out!!!!! anyways let me know when the nara family (or anyone adjacent to them) does anything so i can care LOL

Anime Expo Anisong World Matsuri ~kawaii live~ 2017 Post-concert essay

Okay so here’s my really long write up about the concert. Includes pictures and background info on call books I helped with. tl;dr I cried a lot.

pre-concert: I had already been planning to attend Anime Expo 2017 since I’m fairly local to the area (I live in Southern California) so it was easy for me. However, the moment AX announced WUG and Cinderella Girls for a Day 0 concert, I was so shocked! I never thought that WUG would return nor that imas would ever come to the US. I’ve been a fan of both since the WUG anime came out, and for CG through the original mobage (mostly rolled over from 765 animas though). Of course, most people know me as an ArisuP.

Once the announcement was official, I caught wind of people who wanted to organize creating fan call books for the live. I signed up to help as an artist for the imas CG call book and the WUG call book. I was happy to be able to contribute to those teams and was really excited about our books!

While signal boosting for WUG call books before the show, the WUG character designer, Sunao Chikaoka, noticed our book! He said the outfits were cute.

Performers: Mika, Anzu, Kirari, Miria, Frederica, Kanade I couldn’t believe that CG was the opening act because they were the group I was most hype for. They opened with the first 2 songs, then did introductions, they did a short MC section where they showed the Cinderella Girls Theater clips and Cinderella Girls anime clips and had the girls voicing their lines. Mika/Miria was the first one, followed by Anzu/Kirari. Frederica and Kanade did theirs solo. I was really happy that the audience seemed to like it and new fans could put faces to the characters. By the way, I was pretty much crying through the entire thing and cheering as hard as I could being choked up. My favorite was Yes! Party Time! and that was SO HYPE! Seeing their outfits glitter up close, every girl was so cute. I especially loved Iidashi since I have a Cool idol bias haha.

Mika was also the designated leader & center, which I loved - felt very old-school CG (back before Mio became the poster passion idol). The only thing is that I wished they had done some solo songs (Hotel Moonside, Ankira, Tokimeki...) or some group songs like Orange Sapphire or Tulip. Ah, well. It felt really like it was a very safe approach.

Also, none of the girls tried to speak English to the audience if I’m remembering correctly. My Japanese isn’t fluent, but I can understand a bit. So the impression their act came off was kind of like “Well, to like iM@S, you should already know Japanese! Also, come to a proper live in Japan to experience us fully” haha. They didn’t bring a fully cohesive unit so I think that’s why they mostly stuck to the group songs, which did feel a bit generic. But that’s not to say I didn’t cry like a little baby because IMAS FIRST WESTERN APPEARANCE AHHH I LOVE ;_;

MY GOD WUG WAS SO STRONG. They were such a cohesive group. Mayushi and Yoppi’s vocals were AMAZING, I really loved them. The last time I’d seen one of their lives (BD, not in-person), it was one of the first ones they did so they were very unpolished. But seeing the difference in the 3 years that’ve passed... It felt very emotional, realizing that they had really worked so hard to become as amazing as they are now, and that there’s a 4th Live Tour (which I’m planning to see, hopefully!).

Having them open with the 2 very strongly anime-based story songs, and having come right after CG, I had NO TIME to recover at all, so I was really a huge screaming sobbing mess during WUG’s performance. During the intro segments, I was again crying as I cheered on each girl. It was really cute, they told us their nicknames as well “Please call me Ai-chan!” or “Please call me Yoppi!” (though, in Japanese mostly)

I felt that most of the audience wasn’t very familiar with WUG when they first started, but by the end of it I could feel that so many people had become fans of theirs. Their choreography was absolutely stunning to see, and hearing them perform live was a whole different experience to seeing their lives on a computer screen. Not to mention the emotional bond of following them as the underdog idol series, it was truly an amazing experience I’ll never forget.

Thank god we had an intermission before Walkure or else I may have gone through cardiac arrest right on the spot. I was able to collect myself a bit though I spent the entire intermission still sobbing and reeling from the two groups I regarded the most highly. Anyway, I’m not familiar with Macross but I did listen to a lot of Walkure songs since they’re very catchy. It was really something to be able to see it performed live.. with just 2 out of 5 members present, Minorin and Junna really captivated the theater and you could feel their amazing presence. The songs were incredibly hype, really pumped up the audience and not to mention Junna’s talent is just... I’m really speechless!

Walkure was really cute because Minorin interacted a lot with the audience (”Do you like ANIME? Do you like WALKURE?”). They asked what countries people had come from to see this concert, so of course USA, but also Canada (”Ah, that’s right! It’s near America!”), China, and they even heard Dis shout out “SCOTLAND!” at which they were very surprised. They also asked where was the best place to eat burgers, so everyone shouted in unison IN-N-OUT! and it was very cute.

The last song being Rune ga Pikatto Hikattara made me extremely happy! It’s my favorite song by them. Minorin taught the audience how to do the Woa-woa, whoa-whoa-whoaaa call before they performed it. She wasn’t satisfied with us at all! She kept making us repeat it at least 3 times! She is so cute, and her acapella singing for the chorus part was great. I definitely cried and now I feel very emotional whenever Walkure songs come up on shuffle.

Also it was adorable how Junna wasn’t allowed to say the good-bye because she’s 16 and can’t work after 10pm hahaha.

I have to admit here: I am a fan of Love Live’s μ's but I have very, very little emotional bond with Aqours and Love Live Sunshine, nor am I familiar with their songs. However, that’s not to say they weren’t great! I thought they really were stunning live. It was amazing how in sync they were with each other, not to mention the seiyuus are sooo pretty. During their songs, in the background screens it showed the animated scenes of the songs and their dancing matched up perfectly. It was really cool to experience! Plus, the audience was really hyped up (of course, I’m sure that’s what most of the people were there for). However, by the end of the concert I was already tapped out of energy so it was a bit hard to enjoy, and I felt that the Aqours songs were about the same generic, safe sort of songs like the CG full group songs, and that their vocals were weak and not very distinctive in comparison to Walkure and WUG. But I’m also glad they were the last to perform since all the Love Live people were forced to stay until the very end and experience every other idol group. lol. They also had the most English of each group, I think? Iirc, Riko was pretty fluent almost.

Overall, it was a seriously amazing live and I can’t believe I still survived the remaining 4 full days of Anime Expo after that. I really truly hope that this concert showed the Japanese industry how much of a western audience there is for idols, and that there were lots of new fans for WUG and CG after that concert!

Also: I was able to sit quite close up and in the center since my friend snagged an orchestra seat for us! I was happy to get seat 315 because I love SideM.

Lastly, there are no pictures or recordings allowed DURING the live. However you can usually find stuff from staff twitters of the performers and behind-the-scenes pictures from them. That’s pretty standard and mostly why you’ll only see drawings or tweets from people after JP lives.

There was a little girl with a huge imagination, who moved about quite a bit and had a very difficult time in making friends because she was both shy and, well, a bit odd. She was the kind of little girl who rubbed her freckled cheeks with lemons because other little girls liked to tease her for her complexion, and who grew to be incredibly guarded at a very young age after so much bullying and the perpetual stomach ache of not fitting in. But, as with most coming of age tales, something happened that would change her life.

This is going to be lengthy, and not many are going to take the time to read it. That’s okay. I’m writing it for me, because I am a writer and this is how I cope when I have too much inside of me and no where else to put it.

The first time I saw Newsies, it was airing on television at my grandma’s house. I was transfixed. Let’s face it, the initial interest had much to do with cute boys singing. I was too shy to ask anyone what it was but once I got home, I became obsessed with trying to figure it out. I finally sucked it up and called my grandma. She couldn’t recall the title of the film, but it just so happened to be on again and she recorded it on VHS for me.

This would be my drug--a VHS recording, peppered with commercials and lacking in full scenes due to being edited for television. I would watch it SEVERAL times a day.

Watching it wasn’t enough, though. And if you’re a fan of ANYTHING, you understand. We ache for more, always. The thing worth noting here is that this was a time before Twitter and Instagram and the age of “social media”. It was a “flop”, according to reviews, and there weren’t going to be sequels, novels, or any future additions to this tiny film. We couldn’t follow actors on Twitter or stalk them on Instagram.

I stumbled across the NML as a happy accident. It was a Yahoo! Group, the Newsies Mailing List. For the younger generation, it was literally a list where we would email an entire group of people and talk about Newsies. To you, this must sound so mundane! But no. Not at all. (And, as a point of interest, the list is still there.)

We watched Newsies so much that we began to notice all the little errors and make games out of it. The scene where Kid Blink had to share a water? Hilarious. This was also my introduction to role playing and fanfiction. You see, we had only the tiniest sliver of Newsies, but we built and we collaborated until the world was big enough for us to live inside of it--together.

I attribute my writing skills to the girls of the NML. The ones that took me under wing and patiently wrote with me over AIM where we went from short form (*looks over there* do you see that?) to full-on third person narrative. These people became my mentors, my friends, my family.

As someone who suffered from undiagnosed (at the time) bipolar depression, some of these girls literally saved my life. I distinctly recall beginning to write my first (and only, as it turns out) fanfiction where I self-inserted myself as the main character. My end goal was to write this girl eventually committing suicide and starting a new life within the Newsies universe, back in time. And, if I’m honest, that was going to be my good-bye story. These people reached out to me, and somewhere along the way everything changed. The ending changed because of the people I met along the way.

We didn’t use real names. We had our own newsies nicknames. I went by Bottle Cap (who bloody knows why, honestly). We would send out “casting calls” and use one another in fanfics so that everyone was fully invested in reading each other’s stories. We were so fully involved, so very close-knit.

I met this fantastic girl who called herself Rogue. I would later, in my adult life, by saved by her. Many, many times. When I was out of work and had no where to go, Rogue got me a job and let me live with her. Her mom became very dear to me through this. She has become my most trusted mentor, honestly, who I rely on for most of my life advice. She means so much to me, I couldn’t imagine a world where I didn’t know her.

There was this truly shy girl who went by Stage Mouse--rather appropriately. Our lives are forever entangled to this day. She was the orchestrated of my first-ever trip to Disney World, not all that long ago. And today (okay, possibly tomorrow as she’s in labor now) she’s giving birth to a son who will carry the name of a character she helped me refine for the novel I am currently working on getting published.

There were so many who changed my life in ways I can’t begin to describe. Silver Fists, Fighter, Dragonfly, Aki, Stress, Rae, and on and on.

And then there was Honor. She was my best friend. I don’t have the words to tell you what she means to me. Were it not for a flopped film in 1992, I might never have known this incredible girl. She passed away last March and every time I get to experience the stage version of Newsies, I am weighted with the realization that she didn’t live to see the rebirth of something so beautiful. She had been in the hospital leading up to her death, unable to go see the show.

TL;DR: Go easy on the older fans of Newsies, kids. We’re trying to be welcoming of a new generation, but Newsies wasn’t just a movie or story to us. It was a lifeline. It was a community. It’s very personal to us in a way that we’re afraid you can’t or don’t understand. We share your excitement for the stage version--hell, we’ve been waiting 19 years for it! But if you see a 30-something woman quietly sobbing at a not-even-remotely-sad part of Newsies... just know. That’s probably an NML girl. And we aren’t fansies. No.
