A RANT

A TRAUMATIZED FATHER

aka: a splinter defense

I've been rewatching a bunch of different tmnt versions and a thought popped in my mind. Is splinter an analogy for depressed/traumatized parents?

Most interpretations of him make me feel that way, at least. Specially the 2003, bayverse, 2012, rise and mutant mayhem splinters- mostly because those are the versions i grew up with and are more familiar with, lol.

The way his own point of view, experiences impacts the turtles and affects their personalities and goals so...i don't know how to express it, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth when i see people treating him as some kind of villain¿

In almost every version of Splinter, there's a catalyst for his choice to raise the turtles as ninjas and a deep fear to allow them to explore the real world. Something happens to him that makes him either disconnect emotionally (bayverse/rise), place insane responsabilities and expectations on them (2012 i'm looking straight at you), or makes him be overly protective of his sons (mayhem, 2003).

I might be speaking out of turn, but most versions of the hamato/Splinterson family feel as if a part of their dynamic is that of a partially dysfunctional one, mostly due to splint's traumas.

2003 and Bayverse saw the one that took care of him be killed without mercy, vowing to take care of the young turtles that were affected by the actions of those who altered his world.

Rise and 2012 are direct victims, being stripped away from humanity without a choice, taken from everything they knew, betrayed, so they keep clinging to the only thing that still gives them a small blink of hope and happiness, four little turtles that have been mutated just as he was (one even directly sharing his dna with the turtles).

Even mutant mayhem! Sure he wasn't directly in some accident- But even he shows high levels of anxiety and fear towards the world, prohibiting his children to interact directly with it and teaching them that humans can't be trusted at all. He has been attacked and persecuted, but what makes him break is watching his own sons (the only family and precious possesion he holds, said by himself) get hurt and rejected by humans as he once was (mikey almost got ran over my a bus y'all). He deeply CONNECTS with his sons and clearly projects his own fears and issues on them, straining the way the boys perceive themselves and their own relationships within the family.

Experts agree that trauma affects the father's/mother's parenting style, which leads the children to adopt unhealthy coping mechanisms and attitudes. The effects of intergenerational trauma can impact many parts of your life, from how you see yourself to how you communicate with others.

Am i saying splint is abusive? NO, but i'm definately explaining that almost every version of him replicates the pressure and weight he feels, which in turn makes the own brothers perpetuate said cycle of misunderstanding and emotional confusion/neglect

Sometimes, children learn unhealthy patterns indirectly through interacting with or observing family members. For example, if your parents experienced trauma they may tend to avoid distress and conflict altogether. They may relate to each other in passive or passive-aggressive ways. They may have trouble asserting their needs constructively or directly problem-solving.

Raph's anger issues, leo's anxiety, don's temper and loneliness (which sometimes seems to trasnlate on finding comfort with his computers/machines) and mikey's high emotions and empathy.

The boys love each other, they're family, but almost in every version they seem to battle their own feelings of inadequacy. They fight, hide their thoughts and emotions, have sudden bursts of anger or panic and fail to understand how to properly express themselves (heck, the rise turtles even go so far as directly stating they've barely ever been hugged)

Yes, every splinter has failed and could've done better, but they did what they believed was better for their sons. Their only wish was to keep them safe, hide them from harm and be able to live peacefully as a family; if training their sons to be ninjas was the best thing they could think of, honestly, who am i to judge?

My conclusion? Take the family for a road trip to the nearest therapist

Then, her girlfriend leaves the lair and go to her apartment to cry, and tries to kill herself with a overdose of sleeping pills. When Raph go to her apartment to apologize, he see her girlfiend on the floor inconscient with the bottle of pills in her hand and Raph regrets everything he had said and done, and go to the lair with her girlfriend in his arms. A/n: Thanks so much for requesting! I hope you don't mind but I didn't write the overdose part bc I didn't feel comfy with it, but I hope you like it nonetheless.

All I wanted to do was to go see Raphael. Spend some time with him. But I had frozen outside of the training room when I had heard Raph's cruel words

"I mean I don't know why she would wear something like that she's to big for it."

I listened to him bark out a laugh and say some other choice things before I decided I heard enough

"How can you say that about me?!" I stepped into view and looked at Raph and he turned to his brothers before looking at me.

"It's true and it's time someone finally told you."

"What in the world is wrong with you!" I shouted at him and I felt my heart break just a little bit

"Well actually he's-" I held up my hand and cut off Donatello's sentence

"Take it back!" I demanded and Raph let out a small laugh.

"Go fuck yourself."

"Fine. Maybe I will!" I screamed and turned to leave.

"Don't come back!" He shouted as I turned the corner

I raced out of the dojo and out of the lair.

I was heartbroken I mean he had never been so cruel before and it was so unlike him, but maybe it was true

Maybe I really was the problem..

I slammed by door shut and sat on the entrance floor and I just cried.

I laid down on the cold tile and thought over the last few days

Maybe I had said something or done something wrong?

Before I knew it I was drifting off to sleep.

When I woke I sat up suddenly and looked around the lair in shock

"Why am i-"

"Wait!" I grew angry when I saw Raph sitting next to me

"Why am I here!" I turned and grabbed the pillow my head was on and threw it at him.

"Let me explain please!" He held his hands up and I huffed out a no

"You should hear him out.."

I huffed again but turned to Raphael.

"Three minutes." I muttered before Raphael nodded and began to rush out

"I know what I said was wrong, but I swear I didn't mean it! I didn't get the chance to tell you and Donnie tried to explain, but when you got here we just got back from a mission and I got a weird potion thing thrown at me and It made me say terrible things about people and I am so so sorry!"

I turned to look at Donnie and he nodded.

"He's telling you the truth it was a sort of serum, I guess that's what you could call it, but it brought out his worst characteristics. I've already given him an antidote and he's cured."

"Thanks Donnie."

"your welcome." He gave me one last wave and he disappeared and I looked at Raph

"Your crying?" I motioned to the tears rolling down his face.

"I hurt you and I didn't mean too and I'll do anything for you to forgive me."

"Your right you did hurt me, but I'll forgive you.." I gave him a small smile and he pulled me into his arms.

"I'll make it up to you baby I promise." He placed a gentle kiss on my head and I held him tighter.

I wanted to make a post kinda compiling all my thoughts on what was announced today! First off feeling super hyped. I'm excited that we're adventuring off again after the events of endwalker, it'll be a much needed breath of fresh air. That trailer omg it was so good. Never seen one piece, but got such one piece vibes from it. The cgi for the scions and wol looked fantastic and the new areas look amazing. Very excited to see it's based of south america and hope they do it well.

Can we just look at HOW GOOD HE LOOKS ♡♡♡

A little bummed it is next summer, thought it would be beginning of next year but think it'll be worth the wait. Fingers crossed for early June/July.

Now this scares me don't let me fight the twins or g'raha please ;-; but honestly looking forward to some kinda of conflict with the scions and what it'll be about exactly. And will this have long term effects?

The new areas look freaking STUNNING with the new graphical update. It was cute seeing how excited yoshi p was talking about the shadows and plants being updated xD

SPEAKING OF THIS MAN WAS A TEASE ;-;-;-; But we all know yoshi doesn't wear a shirt without it having some kind of purpose so seen a few different theories. Based on the trailer we did see either the wol or somebody with a similar cloak holding a new weapon. Some people are thinking a corsair class which would be cool. And it could be a dual wielder with a pistol and a sword. If true that'll be a fun class. The two new classes were confirmed to be a melee and a caster (hell yes finally) But going back to the shirt it could be going many different directions. All the TMNT turtles are named after artists. So maybe some kind of Inkmage is what I seen most talked about. Or they are holding duel wielding weapons which could further confirm the corsair class. Whatever it is might see one of them at the EU fanfest in october.

Now probably the biggest thing this update is the graphical update and WOWW it seriously looks great so far.

Left is updated right is current ingame The way it just looks so much brighter and colorful fdjhfv seriously can't wait. It's a much needed update and so far they still aren't done but next time we see it will be even better.

Updated example of aura their horns look great so far not just a blob. There are some videos on youtube showing off just the updated graphical updates and it all looks stunning especially a certain flower field we're all quite familiar with. Now with this of course does come with updated system requirements not as bad as I thought I barley just meet the recommended but keep this in mind for Dawntrail. It makes me wonder if by 8.0 support for ps4 will stop entirely or they will just have a lower quality version for ps4. We'll have to see.

NOW THIS THANK YOU FOR ALL THIS This is all stuff I know myself and so many players have been begging to be added into 14 and it's finally happening.

Really hoping for at least 100 slots for housing inside and maybe 20 for outside. It seriously will just give so much more freedom for housing peeps. Now of course we have standard stuff we come to expect -Level cap -New Dungeons -New Trials -8 Player Raids -Ultimate Raids -Alliance Raids -New Gear and Recipes -Fates -Hunts -Treasure Hunts -Side quests -PVP Updates

But we also have what yoshi p said Expansive New Lifestyle Content so something like island but not. Super curious what they have in mind for that or what it even possibly could be? Now...the two things I would have NEVER and I mean NEVER guessed is this...

FALL GUYS?!?! Not just a collab in fall guys as a full pass but a probably perma game mode in the gold saucer! I could not stop screaming crying laughing in vc with a friend. I'm still in shock this is even happening. Much less skins being in fall guys but a fall guys game mode in 14! Ngl tho it looks like a ton of fun and I hope it brings some more people to the gold saucer. Now they said in 7.0 gold saucer is getting an update which they said in 6.x that was gonna happen. Please let it be a bigger update this time.

This is the second thing that surprised me was 14 is coming to xbox! Which is great bringing in new people to the game and honestly about time it's on xbox. Phil spencer also great to see him as awkward as ever :)

Nothing needs to be said about this picture lol this was so funny to watch live Overall though extremally hyped for what this expansion is going to bring. I think it's going to bring such a fresh air from the doom and gloom endwalker brought and what I am hoping is just more content. Endwalker does feel a little lacking in content and I just want more and hopefully they can deliver.

I know and can understand people not super vibing with the more relax vacation this is showing off so far. But we still don't fully know what mysterious or problems we'll have so I'm quite optimistic of what they will bring here. Anyone reading this I'm curious what other people think and if you want leave a comment I wanna know :D

Leo's Love language is def Quality time, he will need some time to adjust into physical touch as your way of showing appreciation, but soon enough he looks forward to it! loves to mindlessly caress your hand, back, tights when you are hanging out, gives killer massages! likes to hear about your day as you both lie down on his futon and your head is in his lap or your you are both lying down and your legs are above is tights, soon enough he will discover he's actually really into gentle touches, give him time to ge used to it tho cuz he never really considered even having a s/o, so, baby steps regarding physical affection is the way to go!

He's so interested in your major, i shit you not he asks to see your assignments and homework. The bumps on the road; 1-he cannot deal with someone impulsive. We all know his relationship with Raph, and we ALL know he can be controlling on his worst days, you both would have to compromise during missions or even daily tasks, he wants to be part of the planing, he wants to know whats going on, but at the same time he cant micromanage you like shit that sucks a LOT. 2- he needs someone steady. he fall in love extremely slow, so for his to work out, he would either have to speed the process up or you to pump the breaks with falling out of love rapidly 3- ..... give him time to be more pro-weed please LMAOOO (although i know this points can be """solved"""with loooads of talking, and thats something nice about your relationship, at certain stage, both of you are completely honest and open about your issues, and both can be understanding of each others limitations and personal growth that shall occur on future)

"guys that aren’t into or against spiritual things like saging rooms or crystals or incense" Leo def knows anything related to Japanese culture and i think he (and mikey.. and Donnie) would be the most open-minded towards new healing / spiritual activites and techniques? although there are different reasons to each one of them; Donnie is bc he's curious about well- everything, Mikey is bc he always wants to try new things and lowkey finds it cool, And with Leo, he wants to be part of your life just like he wants you to be part of his, so please be open towards learning Japanese costumes and he shall participate in your costumes as well.

Loves that you are independent, he likes being there for you don't get me wrong, but.. he's a busy turtle, if you cant handle yourself once in a while, that might be a deal breaker for him. Chivalry is kinda big for him tho, so let him treat you when he can, he likes to woo you sometimes so just let him lol

Ok so i know Raph is like, the gym king or whatever but if you ever briefly mention you would like to use it the one the boys have around the lair, he will "randomly"show up there, Raph will def tease him if he tries to help you out on a machine that you and Raph combined know way more than he ever could lmao. He does asks you if you would like to join him into his training sections at the dojo, he's way more comfortable in there and he swears is not as stinky as their gym after Raph uses it, really looks forward to the day you accept his invitation into teaching you some self defense moves here and there

Ok you didnt mention this like...he loves how you always reply REALLY FAST!! like at first he's taken back cuz? usually april or casey take a few good minutes even hours to respond, humans have their things to do on topside and he gets it you know? he's also relatively busy most days, so when he almost automatically gets a reply from you, Leo def got surprised on the first chats he had with you, he begins to love it how fast you can come back to him with texting, he doesnt have to worry if you are in danger after escorting you to your home, or when you are leaving college, work, yadda yadda, he knows its not extremely healthy to be on your phone 24/7 but when you are away from him, he loves it he can have almost imidiate contact with you

Over-all: Really chill relationship but still has some fire into it??? at the same time?? both of you just gets eachother, and he feels free to show his funny, daring, flirty / teasing self he almost NEVER shows to anyone, so lucky you!

I love music. I like rap. My fav bands are G.O.A.T and The Black Eyed Peas. My fav rapers are Cardi B, Nicki Minaj, Iggy Azalea, Stefflon Don and Kanye West. I really love AC/DC, Kiss, Little Mix and Pentatonix.

I love drawing and painting. Mostly I draw people, faces, nature or something what come to my mind. I love dance. I like knitting.

I love tea and cappuccino. I love cooking. I love reactions people when they taste my work. For me, it's everything. It's my passion.

My favorite colors are blue, purple and black.

I love technique. It's so interesting how somebody can build something. And I really admire it.

You're SO unique in so many ways! It's like you're the ending result of several personalities bunched into one human being!

Definitely has jealousy over you being an only child. Like -- imagine living with THREE brothers? One always on your case and the other two obnoxious as heck? He'd totally ask you what it's like to be a single child.

Donnie is a bit on the timid side as well -- especially so when it comes to physical affections like hand holding or the occasional smooch. So whether giving or receiving said affections, he'll be a bit red in the cheeks for sure.

Having someone to care for him as much as he does them is a godsend. His brothers care, sure -- but they're all still young so checking up on each other only goes so far when you're so curious and caught up with everything else around you. Donnie will appreciate a loved one who'll care for him, because you are his whole world.

You can count on Donnie to fight ANY fear you face. Whether it be physical or mental. You're a treasure to him, he won't let any harm come to you.

Consider this nerd to be your new study partner! It gives him the chance to learn new things as well! (Though does he really need to?)

As for meditation? His mind is like gears in motion. He can't sit still long enough to get a good meditation session in. But he'd happily join for yoga!

Dude are you his soul mate? Binge sessions, binge sessions, BINGE SESSIONS.

Will HAPPILY listen to any instrument you take up. Will request you play for him while he tinkers with new gadgets.

He isn't big on rap, but adores old-school music and some modern stuff here and there. Though if it makes you happy, he'll bear through anything you like.

TOTALLY asks that you draw on his shell! Anything you want as long as it makes him look cool!

If you compliment his inventions and are invested in what he does? He'll love you for life. He appreciates any moment he can get to ramble on about what HE is passionate about. Of course, though, he'd also be ecstatic to hear what YOU'RE passionate about as well 💜
