Top ten shows I binged in Quarantine

WARNING MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS IF YOU WANNA WATCH ANY OF THESE SHOWS

10. Sex and the City

This show came out I was born so I didn’t get to watch it while it was airing but quarantine was the perfect time to watch it! It’s the first thing I wanted to watch since I would hear a lot about it on the internet. I have to say it did not disappoint. The chemistry between the four main girls was amazing, and I really enjoyed their friendship. It was fun watching them grow from the very first episode to the last (I ignore the movies they are not canon to me sorry about it). I got watch Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda, and Samantha fall in love, out of love, accept themselves, and take on the city and have sex of course!

9. The Office

The first time I heard about The Office was from my older brother as it is his favorite show. All of my friends watched it and would tell me to but I had no way to so. When we got netflix during quarantine it was one of the first things I wanted to watch. I binged this summer and it made me feel closer to my brother as I understood his humor more. The show is hilarious and the cast had great charisma together. It was cool to see where actors like Steve Carell, John Krasinski, Craig Robinson and many others got their start. I loved watching Jim and Pam’s love story, and Dwight is definitely my favorite character. Overall I understand all the hype around this show.

8. I am not okay with this

I watched this show during summer as well, and holy crap what a show! I was already fan of Sohpia Lilis, and Wyatt Oleff from IT but omg I was so impressed with them after this show! The plot is an interesting one and that ending was insane, so sad there won’t be a season two but what can you do?

7. Hollywood

Definitely one of my fave shows of all time! I’ve seen it about 5 or 6 times. It is a story about old Hollywood but it’s not how you think it is as it a rewrite of it. It was written and created by Ryan Murphy who also created one of my other fave shows of all time Glee. The show has solid cast such as Darren Criss, Jim Parsons, Dylan Mcdermott, and Holland Taylor. The show will make you laugh, cry and wish you lived in old Hollywood! It will also give you a better understanding of how Hollywood works.

6. Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist

This show came out in January but I did not start watching it until the first week of quarantine so Idk if I counts as a binge but oh well. This show is so amazing. It is about a girl who can hear people’s thoughts through song, and she has to figure out a way to help them. It also helps that the show stars Pitch Perfect’s Skylar Astin, and Glee’s Alex Newell. The story is solid, and the song selection is definitely unique with songs from all sorts of genre’s, era’s, and artists.

5. Outer Banks

Oh my god what a great show! It came out in April or May I think but I didn’t watch it until September. The show is about a boy named John B who lost his father at sea and now he and his friends are looking for the treasure his dad was chasing. It has friendship, romance, adventure, and betrayal. This show really made me miss hanging out with my friends. I can’t wait for season 2!

4. Cobra Kai

This show is apart of The Karate Kid series which I have been a fan of since I was a kid. It came out two years ago on Youtube Red and I wanted to watch it then but had no way to. When it got added to netflix this summer I immediately stopped what I was watching to watch it. It follows the bully from the Karate Kid series Johnny Lawrence. He opens up his childhood dojo to help a kid named Miguel with bullies. Eventually more kids start to join, and Danny Larusso the protagonist of The Karate Kid movies opens up his childhood dojo. The show follows new kids including the kids of Danny and Johnny.

3. Dead To Me

I watched this show after season two came out. I was really impressed with this show! The plot really shocked me and I couldn’t tear my eyes away. Linda Cardellini, and Christina Applegate are the leads of this show. Christina Applegate’s husband died in a tragic accident, she meets Linda Cardellini and forms a friendship with her. That is all I will say about this show.

2. Julie and The Phantoms

This show I just finished today, and OH MY FUCKING GOD! This show is a masterpiece and deserves all the hype. It is directed by Kenny Ortega who directed the iconic HSM Series and many more. It’s about a girl whose mother died, and she lost her passion for music. She meets these three ghost who died before they got their big break. They help her find her passion for music and form a band with her. The show will make you laugh, sing, and surprisingly cry. The music is amazing, and the main characters have such amazing chemistry musically, and friendship wise. This show will make you feel good, and look up all the songs on youtube when it’s over! 100/100 recommend.

1. Euphoria

I LITERALLY HAVE NO WORDS FOR THIS SHOW OH MY GOD! I binged it at the end of summer, and it is literally one of the best show’s I’ve ever seen. It follows Rue a teenage girl who’s had drug abuse problems since she was thirteen. She just got back from rehab and meets this girl named Jules. They become best friends, and eventually more. I’m not gonna give to much of this show away but oh my god If you have not watched it you should. However it may trigging to some viewers as there is nudity, drug use, physical abuse, and violence. The show follows more characters than just Rue but she is the main. Zendaya definitely deserved the Emmy for this show!

which audiobooks do you prefer?? the stephen fry ones or the jim dale ones?? personally ill always love stephen frys voices and intensity better. jim dales voices just seem more cartoony to me. hp audiobooks are my fave method of consumption honestly

I HARD STAN JIM DALE.

And here’s why (long, personal version):

I really love Stephen Fry. I just listened to his Audible audiobook “Victorian Secrets;” I loved his shows touring the country; I even loved him on Bones as a guest star. He’s such a strong LGBTQ ally and supporter, and great speaker and advocate for so many important things. He makes me feel like even though he’s cynical and annoyed generally, his love of learning, interest, being snarky, and being rad and cool friends with awesome people (both here and ones gone before, like Douglas Adams), makes me wish we were personal friends. One day, I really hope to meet him, and the news of his prostate cancer makes my stomach clench with unfairness and sadness.

However, my family purchased the Harry Potter audiobooks on CD. They came in big chunky boxes and had fun little segments saying things like “This ends disc four, please insert disc five to continue the story.” My dad had a flexible work schedule and drove me and my sisters to school every single day. During our morning commutes, we used to listen to The Beatles, and Peter, Paul, and Mary. But then came Harry Potter when I was about 12. (I actually saw “Chamber of Secrets” the film before ever seeing the first film or reading any of the books because my dad wanted to see what all the hype was about and dragged me to see it in theaters! The basilisk fight scene was so scary I had to close my eyes and felt just like Harry).

Now back in the day, CD players just held one CD at a time, and sometimes if that CD got stuck, you had to use a pen to nudge/unjam the felt lip of the CD player to let the CD get out. And the day we started Order of the Phoenix on CD it plays little intro music and Jim Dale says happily: “Chapter 1: Dudley....Demented” with a very long dramatic pause. Well the CD got stuck or skipped or sucked up a crumb or something and I swear to fucking god we listed to “Chapter 1: Dudley....Demented” about 48 times in a row in fifteen minutes while my dad is trying to unjam it and I’m in the backseat trying to lean up/climb up and he’s like “get back get back sit down” and I’m like “let me do it! You drive! Let me do it!” And then of course once I get in the front seat I can’t do anything and my two younger sisters (the youngest about six) were shrieking with laughter and have started joining in on the unending chorus of “CHAPTER 1: DUDLEY.....DEMENTED” with the same sort of zeal and insanity of “none pizza left beef.” We finally pull up in the carpool line of school and my dad can put it in park and unwiggle the CD and unjam it and reinsert it and we can finally start listening but at that point we’re all so giggly and ridiculous there’s absolutely no point in trying to start a new book.

The cool thing about getting into Harry Potter at 12 was that Order of the Phoenix was the first ever “release” of the book I had to wait for. Of course I had swallowed it up immediately after my parents had finished with our SINGLE hardback copy. And my Dad turned to me to warn me “Now...someone dies at the end of this book.” And I was so upset that he was spoiling for me, but he was like “I know you love Sirius.” (Guys I did love/was in love/am still in love/love Sirius Black the best). And I just got so angry at my dad for spoiling it, yet my voice still squeaked: “does he die?” And my dad is backing the car up in the driveway and he’s doing the thing where his hand is on the passenger seat and he’s twisting around and there was this heart stopping stomach drop where he stops looking out the back window and the car is still rolling and he looks directly at me. And to me, that’s the swooping, horrible feeling I still associate with Sirius dying. And even though when I read it and I cried, I never felt as much dread and as much sadness and as much grief as that moment when my dad looked straight at me and said nothing at all.

Jim Dale is also an incredibly talented amazing guy. I think that listening to Stephen Fry read Harry Potter is a bit like having your uncle or grandfather reading to you. Very a la Princess Bride. But when Jim Dale reads it, at least to me, when I was 12 and all my life since then, it felt like the characters were real. That his voices were real. When Hermione squeals “Oh HARRY!” but says it “har-eeeeee” in her anxiety; if Mrs. Weasley is scowling furiously and vocalizing her annoyance with huffs and gasps; how gentle Remus Lupin sounds, how raspy Sirius Black does; how very old, and very kind, and very wise Albus Dumbledore comes across. And how through his own inflections, Minerva McGonagall became more Scottish than you could have believed possible, and her voice the most instantly recognizable in the whole series. Jim Dale even commits to Peeves, and uses the inflections of David Bradley and Alan Rickman from the first film to help weave into Filch and Snape’s characters for continuity.

Jim Dale became the first person to win a Grammy for an audiobook, prompting a new category to be added in 2000 (post his nomination into a non-existent category for Sorcerer’s Stone). He created 134 distinct voices specifically for OOTP. He carefully recorded each individual one into a sound file so before he spoke that person’s lines he could re-listen to the voice he had made for them if he hadn’t spoken for them more than once or twice a book (or series - like Dedalus Diggle). His level of dedication and perfectionism is something I GREATLY admire and greatly adore.

Although I do like hearing Harry Potter as a bedtime story read to me by a man I wish I could befriend, in my heart of hearts, I want Harry Potter to be as magical, as intangible, as silly as “Chapter 1: Dudley...Demented” for my whole life long. And maybe it’s because I have deep connections of listening to it with my dad, who has since passed on in a way that made me understand that feeling when he looked back at me in the car. The sick stomach Harry felt when Sirius was gone. Or maybe it’s because my mom listens to Jim Dale’s Harry Potter every. single. night on her old fashioned iPod before bed, carefully copied from the original CDs, skips and all, even though we own all of it on Audible. She says she’s missing several 5 minute segments throughout the series, but she fills them in from memory anyways. My mom knows more about the canon of Harry Potter than anyone I know, and can recite most of the first book by heart, because its her favorite.

Obviously I run a Harry Potter blog because Harry Potter is important to me for many sentimental and personal reasons. And the audiobooks are part of that. Sometimes when I’m down or blue, I want Fred & George to tease me in their own voices, to tell me: “We thought we heard your dulcet tones!” “Yeah, it’s not good to bottle that up!” I still really admire and like Stephen Fry as a person, but in my heart, my books and my experience will always be narrated by the wonderful Jim Dale, a man whose voice I adore so much that I watched Pushing Daisies, and searched by narrator on Audible to fall in love all over again with Peter Pan. Harry is a personal experience for all of us, and this is mine. Thanks for listening.

Levi vs MP chase blew me away and I didn't remember rest of the show except Linked Horizon.

Animation blew me away and Kenny is better than I had imagined him in the manga.

They made Levi more bishy and badass at the same time. As expected of WIT. I find myself surprised at some of the changes and the new pacing, but I’m just here to enjoy this wild ride, so I’m open to anything. I can’t wait for Frieda to finally appear and confuse the fuck out of anime-onlies.

ep2 has already become my fav episode

It feels rushed. But I can only hope they make up for it later on.

I enjoyed it, especially the fight scene! A lot of things were missing from the manga, but I'm thinking they will be included in a different context. The ED was absolutely perfect! I'm looking forward to the rest of the season.

It was super enjoyable in its own right even if I'm a bit skeptical of the changed pacing.

The animation in this episode was amazing!

I think it's the perfect mood for an ED. I'm really glad Historia got such a great focus; the OP focuses more on several characters an the ED on her.. I like it that way.

Loved it a lot. You could immediately tell the signature Sounds Horizon influence, which is great. The song’s been stuck in my head for days. I also love the fact that the visuals are Historia-centric.

I don't think it should've been the opening per say......maybe with different visuals but I absolutely loved it. I'm glad that unlike the opening it didn't disappoint.

The Sasageyo in the middle caught me off guard lol

but like why did they have to make me feel so many emotions over that ending tho???

The ending was really beautiful. The animation with little Historia was beautiful because we will see more of Historia. Heck, this is her time to shine. This is her spotlight.

How do you feel about Linked Horizon performing the ending this time?

The majority of respondents are happy that Linked Horizon is back this season, even if it’s the ending instead of the opening. A smaller percentage still wished they had done the opening instead, however.

I'm glad they are still sticking around but I'm still so upset the OP/ED were 100% from some romance high school anime.

Which one is your favorite ED?

Do we as a fandom have a bias toward Linked Horizon? Quite possibly, as the new ending has already captured the hearts of the largest group. Great escape came in second, and Yuuguri no Tori remains the least liked ending of the series.

The new ending is beautiful. The scenario, music, how sad it is considering the recent events in the manga. Beautiful. I've to admit that I prefer by far the ending to the opening.

Which scene(s) did you like best?

It goes without saying that the Levi vs. Kenny/MP chase is what blew away the fandom this week. It was the favorite scene by a huge margin. The runner up was Armin taking aim and shooting in order to save Jean’s life.

I've been waiting five years to see the bar scene, BANG! BANG!

not ashamed to admit I rewatched the Levi vs Kenny chase dozens of times

Favorite anime-only scene: Sasha saved Armin this time, i couldn't be happier for my girl. She ain't useless and definitely not a comic relief, i hope Isayama will do something in the future so that people appreciate &miss her more when 105 is animated.

Also, something I'm loving this season and doesn't receive enough credit is to hear Traute's voice. Her voice sounds so badass. Love it

The animation is so gorgeous and literally jaw dropping. I enjoy absorbing every single second of action. And seeing and hearing the scene of Jean almost being shot and Armin killing somehow has made me officially ship Jearmin.

On a scale of 1-5 how much did the animation during the Levi vs. MP chase blow you away?

As expected, the animation left the majority of respondents in awe. It took one month for the animators to get in that 30 second sequence and it was so worth the efforts of the animation staff!

The Levi fight scene was breathtaking. Genius.

On a scale of 1-5, how daddy is Kenny?

While a fair amount of voters wouldn’t let Kenny touch them with a 50 foot poll, a larger portion of voters agree that Kenny is daddy material.

The only thing so far that is completely good is KENNY BANG BANG ACKERMAN! They're making a wonderful job with him and I hope the dudes from Wit studio won't turn him upside-down or change some important scenes. In the end... How did Erwin light the match with one hand?

Will the mystery ever be solved? We don’t know, but the majority of voters are quite certain that Erwin’s chiseled jawline may have something to do with it!

How excited are you to see kidwin’s eyebrow game next week?

61% of respondents are ready to see Kidwin moving and talking. Possibly also the heartbreak that will follow as we watch his backstory unfold. We’re pretty excited for small Erwin too!

Is your heart ready for Historia’s childhood flashback?

The majority of voters are ready for Historia’s “not very happy” backstory to unfold in episode 40. Some are eager, some just think she’s cute as a button and others are ready for their hearts to hurt. About 12% of voters aren’t as enthused, however.

I hope we will finally see Frieda in the next one !

On a scale of 1 - 5, how much do you relate to Bartender-kun?

I think we can almost all agree with the bartender when he says “EEEK!” It’s quite relatable really.

It took 4 years to finally see Bartender-kun in his moe glory and it was beautiful. 10 outta 10 would EEEEKK again.

Would you want Levi as your motivational counselor?

68% of you would appreciate Levi’s straightforward and blunt was of saying things in order to help you cope and sort things out. 32%, however, would prefer a more gentler approach.

Does Erwin have a gambling problem?

68% of respondents agree that Erwin’s gambles are a positive thing! The thrill of it all is quite a ride for both the Survey Corps and the audience. We look forward to watching his gambles pan out in animated form soon!

How are you guys holding up?

The largest group of voters are unsure about the changes and feel pretty sketchy toward WIT and Isayama for making and agreeing to the changes. However, a combined 50% of respondents overall are enjoying the anime so far, with 31% of those voters having a great time watching the events unfold in a new way. 8% of voters have already lost all hope at enjoying the adaptation.

Jokes aside, the pacing's still left me reeling a little. But I can see how this might make sense from the studio's perspective. If I was an anime-only, I think this episode would have THRILLED me. So yes, I am still invested in the anime and am looking forward to the rest of the season!

Thoughts withheld until we see how the rest of the arc is adapted

i thought it was really good! most manga readers disagree, but i have hope that important scenes will be included later, and we shouldn’t be so quick to judge only 2 eps. i think we should be grateful that the scenes they DID include followed the manga pretty well. i have faith in the changes isayama wanted to make, he is the creator after all. have hope yall!

How do you feel about the restructuring so far?

We were quite surprised to find that 57% of respondents are still open to the changes, looking to see what happens next before ultimately deciding if the anime is in good hands or not. A small 15% are excited for the changes, while another 15% are not feeling them at all. A very small percentage aren’t enjoying anything about the restructuring so far.

I'm really trying to enjoy the season and not judge too fast before seeing all of the arc, but damn WIT, Isayama, you guys are making it so hard, I'm hella confuse by the changes you're making

In my opinion, the change of pace is for the worse. I'm sad Isayama hates the arc this much, and that he agreed to many crucial character scenes being cut. I think the arc in the manga only felt slow because of waiting for the next monthly chapter.

I'm confused by all the changes but it's only episode 2 so I'm waiting for what's coming next. The animation is beautiful, Levi is beautiful (even with his shirt on) so I like it so far!

Still generally hyped about the season, but wary of the changes. A little bit disappointed about the cutting of the minor characters' (dimo, nifa) screentime/character moments. But I'm gonna wait with my judgement 'till the arc's over.

Character development will not be the same. Hopefully they can build up Armin’s and Erwin’s characters in time for RTS or nobody will care.

What best describes what you think about the missing scenes so far?

While we’re all a bit sad to see some of our favorite scenes lost, the largest group of respondents have accepted that as a fact and are ready to just move forward. 26% are holding out hope that everything will be implemented one way or another. 13% of respondents are finding that the missing scenes are making it very difficult to enjoy anything about the season so far.

I literally want to fly to WIT Studio, go in banging a cowbell in everyone's ears until they put the cute scenes of titan eren and his dorky yet fine ass back in the anime.

I'm afraid that loosing some scenes now will take away more important ones later on. No Dimo telling Historia to give Levi a good punch. No Levi basically threatening Historia to take up the mantle of Queen. These interactions added depth to the characters. There's still time for them to include a few other things in flashbacks, but the changes have me a little on edge. Maybe it's just cognitive dissonance - I'll not write off WIT's and Isayama's restructuring efforts yet. But I will sit on my hands and bite my tongue when I ask my Anime-only friends about their thoughts on the pacing thus far.

the only thing I’m really upset they cut is the scene where Armin talks about how to manipulate the mass and everyone stares at him horrified, everyone’s bitching about the abs but the true loss is not seeing the horrifying expression Armin makes

My hype for this season died seeing how they are dealing with this arc

I think that people complain too much about snk anime. Yes, some things are different and even some favourite scenes of mine where removed but overall this is still the best anime of the season, maybe even the year.

How do you feel about the scenes they did keep?

A combined 63% of voters were satisfied with the scenes that we did still get and many of those believe WIT excelled at executing them. 29% thought the scenes were still alright, but lost some of the impact they had in the original work.

The animation of all of it is phenomenal, but all the scenes/events are jumbled in comparison to the manga. It has me like ?????

The whole bit with Jean being "shot" was better in the manga IMO

Again, as before I am not the Uprising Arc's biggest fan, but one thing I did enjoy was whenever the focus was on the 104th kids coming to terms with fighting humans, struggling with their own morality and the orders Levi was giving them. In the manga, this takes place over a longer period of them, so you really get to see Sasha, Jean and Connie question things and come to their own decision not to kill. By reordering things now, I feel that has completely lost its impact.

The scene at the end where the SC crew learns about rod reminds me a bit of the AT & CT reveal when the way in which the SC reacted to Reiner and Bertholdt possibly being titans was withheld from the viewer so I think that maybe thats what they might be going for this season in the sense that they will find a way to cram a lot of moments in flashbacks later.

Rushed. Scenes have less impact. I’m just thankful I’ve read the manga so I have the context of how bamf these things really are.

They removed way too many Dimo scenes which makes him a very different character to the anime canon. In the manga he was a good-hearted opportunist trying to avoid the deaths of himself and his comrades whereas in the anime this was watered down significantly. Also, #BringBackGesumin2018

I like the pacing but many scenes lost their impact, e.g. Reeves death, Armin's kill.

Where do you think Rod, Historia and Eren are right now?

We definitely know they aren’t in the cave, but the largest group of voters aren’t even sure where to theorize they could be right now. Although there is a near tie between people who believe they are either at the ranch or the chapel. One commenter on the poll pointed out an area we hadn’t even considered, however:

Because this option didn't show up in where Eren and Historia are: The Central MP Headquarters! The torture of Sannes was used as a way to find where Eren and Historia are, which is the original point of that mission. So there'd be a different, less redundant reason to go to the HQ in the first place! You can even add some missing scenes there.

How did you feel about the way the torture scene was handled?

Most of us did believe that WIT would censor the torture sequence a bit, but the largest group are shocked at just how much of it wasn’t shown at all. Nearly one quarter of voters are disheartened that they didn’t show it all. Commenters are mourning Hange’s memorable line about which testicle Sannes wants to keep the most.

They cut out Hange's best line

Even though i expected it would be a little bit censored, but wasn't thinking it would that much, they turned it into a joke, a humouristic torture...like seriously wit?

I'm upset because they removed Hange's best line.

Where was Levi punching?

It may've not been directly shown, but sometimes there's more horror in what you can’t see than in what you can

I expected it to be censored but it's ok, they managed to transmit the grotesque and black humorous feeling that the manga gave.

im sad about hange’s line not being included, but other than that, i thought it was really good, and i didnt expect them to be as brutal as the manga anyways. :/

Armin contemplates how they are torturing and killing people because they have different views. How does this relate to the current manga events?

The majority of voters believe that this was a good foreshadowing for the events that have taken place much later in the manga. 17% of voters don’t feel that the situations are comparable, however.

Both sides are fighthing for their own good

Eh, that’s how human history has always been since time immemorial. It’s always people killing other people because of a difference in views and ideologies. Not saying that it should be tolerated, but everything is a case-by-case basis. Sometimes, you need to extinguish the enemy because the enemy alive is a far bigger threat to the world. That’s just how it is.

Everyone else is stuck in the mid-Uprising chapters while Armin is 57D pathsmancing his way to mid-Marley chapters

The Ackerman reveal was handled a bit differently, with Kenny telling Traute about how he raised Levi instead of telling Dimo he is his pride. How do you feel about the change?

The majority of voters believe that the small change in the Ackerman reveal wasn’t a big deal. However, a pretty sizable portion do believe that the weight of the reveal was lost, with many commenters lamenting the loss of Kenny saying that Levi is his pride.

I think we'll have more impactful Acerkreveal to come when Levi and Mikasa talk. *nervous chucking*

Levi being an Ackerman is the less secret thing anyway, the way it's reveals hardly matter

Most of the fandom read some good ol fanfic, i'd be surprised if like 95% of the people watching it didn't know he was an Ackerman (or just log in to tumblr)

Lol so many anime-only reactors didn’t even notice the Ackerman name-drop so WIT pretty much failed at that. And it’s okay for fans to feel disappointed with the anime. We’re not **obligated** to think it’s amazing especially if we think there are parts of it that weren’t adapted well.

I expect another encounter between Kenny and Levi that leads to the talk about Levi being Kenny's pride, probably directed to Rod instead. This scene, on the other hand, worked as a wonderful namedrop and setup for a second encounter.

I love how he called Levi his pride in the manga so i’m very sad they changed it, it made Kenny’s death even more emotional.

Levi threatening Historia didn't happen, breaking the chain of events that builds up to her punching him later. What best describes your thoughts?

It’s probably safe to say that many of us are raising questions about the loss of this scene and how WIT will make up for it or whether it was truly needed in the first place. 39% believe that WIT will still work it in somehow, while the majority believe that the scene is lost forever, with split opinions about whether WIT will make up for it in another way or whether their faith in Historia and Levi’s arcs is shattered forever.

The only thing I'm keeping my eyes on is anything related to Historia and her future step up as queen. I'm sure she'll learn that she is royal next episode via her father, so I wonder if eventually deciding to take rule in place of her hidden relatives and corrupt government, will actually end up being her idea, which could explain why Levi's altercation with her was removed. That would be really interesting and I think it could work out just as well! I always thought his anger toward her was a little too sudden and misplaced in the manga, anyway, and if it's removed for good, I'm glad we don't have to live through that controversy again.

I’m kinda disappointed that they didn’t include Dimo Reeves’s redemption arc. It was very essential to Historia & Levi’s character. Maybe I’m worrying over nothing & instead Fligel will replace Dimo in that role, but Eren & Historia were already captured so I’m not sure how they intend to go about rewriting Historia & Levi’s character progression. However, the production team & Isayama do seem to understand how important character development is for this arc, so maybe they’re finding different ways to make it better in ways we didn’t even realize were possible. Maybe by the end we’ll all say “Wow! This was handled a million times better than in the manga!” But right now, it just seems like Isayama had a negative bias towards this arc & was only so accepting of the changes cause he just thought of the Uprising Arc as his worst piece of work to date despite it being the most important for character development & plot progression. I hope I am wrong though.

BUT NO FLEGEL QUESTION IN THE POLL!!!?!?!?!? THAT'S IT!!(╯°□°）╯︵ ┻━┻ I'm actually not going to do anything about it though. but still. Flegel is best boy.

I’m blown away by the animation! I’m kind of enjoying guessing what might happen next and what other changes they’re going to make. I still have faith that WIT and Isayama will deliver an amazing season three - holding out for more episodes until I lose my mind about changes. It’s super entertaining so far.

I am aware that a 100% adaptation of the manga is impossible and I'm usually not bothered by it. However, I'm slowly getting nervous that too much could get lost and that those fans who want an accurate adaptation will get too frustrated with it to continue. I really hope WIT has a plan here and listens to the fans.

I really, really, really wanted Kenny to say that he was proud of Levi. It was really bittersweet. I hope WIT puts it later on when Kenny is about to die and hopefully he tells it to Levi straight up. But I’m not gonna lie, Levi never knowing that his “father figure” was proud of him all this time puts a tragic and beautiful twist to their relationship. There’s always been something sublime about unexpressed emotions that will forever be hidden because death claimed it first.

I feel like they're sacrificing character interactions and developments for the sake of pacing and action.

I know lots of people are saying that everyone should chill before jumping to conclusions, but as far as I’m concerned all our opinions - mine included, as well as the opinions of those who are dissatisfied with the episode - are valid. And in my opinion, there was so much that the anime skipped. Sure, they were just small details. But it were these details that enriched the story. I trust Isayama, but at the end of the day, he too errs. He too commits mistakes. I don’t know, but if I feel overly dissatisfied with the adaptation even after the season is over, and in my defense am able to bring up valid reasons why I didn’t like it, then so be it.

It's a shame Dimo got reduced to such a minor character.

I felt a bit sorry for the girl who was killed by Armin. I didn't pay attention on her in the manga but in Armin's flashbacks she was more human. It was the proof that even such cold monsters like anti-human squad members have some heart.

I love it so far but Levi and Erwin need more love and they'll get it if they are shirtless and have moar scenes

Part F I V E

Summary: A cherry blossom tree, residing at the farthest part of the schools courtyard. Nobody dwelled there, and you didn’t care much for it. Until you kept hearing one song played over and over, with lyrics changed to touch at your curiosity. They knew you were listening, and one day you gave in and made your way to the pink tree. Waiting for you, a series of notes tied to a single strand of string.

“Hey Y/N, wait up!”

You didn’t dare glance behind you to figure who it was. Nathan Holland, now intruding your life at random, won’t seem to leave you alone any longer. He accompanied beside you as you strode down the hallway, keeping your eyes forward to pass the crowds. Nathan was off beside you, hands in his jeans with his torso covered in a simple white tee. He had a pair of electric blue Jordans with his hazelnut hair incredibly messy.

“More people who yearn for my energy, fantastic,” you muttered dully as you turned the corridor to find more people. Everyone had been transitioning classes and you were somewhat excited to go to yours. “What do you want, Nathan?”

“Nothing really,” Nathan said with a sigh, putting his arms up to bend them and rest both hands behind his head. “I’m just curious about you again.”

“Because you were before?”

“Everyone was,” Nathan informed, having you briefly widen your eyes before shrugging. “The girl with no feelings.”

“What a title,” you mocked, walking past the crowds to see another crowd in front of your class. Your English class. “What the hell?”

A crowd of students, variety of them from different years, were peeping through the doorway of the classroom. A lot of then held open mouths and wide eyes, looking around. A few beckoned others over to create a bigger, still crowd. Short-stacks like Des hopped to try and see what was the hype. And unfortunately, you had a feeling that it had something to do with you.

“Is this your class?” Nathan asked, feeling his hot breath by your ear. You nodded before shoving him back a bit. You glared at him, receiving a hands up from the guy as though you were threatening him. “Personal space. Got it.”

Before you could start trying to pry yourself through the crowd, a mysterious character cut themselves through a sliver of the crowd. Everyone then turned their attention to him, having you look in awe as the black-hoodie boy stared at you. But he was quick to drop his head to cease your sight of him. His eyes were hidden under these ivory-black sunglasses with his nose to his chin covered in a black cloth. He was wearing these very light blue jeans and black Adidas, which made you really question this boys fashion sense. But he didn’t dare make eye contact with anyone.

Before you could really react, then boy turned to the opposite hallway and dashed down, having the crowd turn to watch him go. You looked over as well, seeing the fairly tall character bolt away from the crowd. Several whispers were exchanged over the identity of the character as they watched him disappear into the hallway of strangers.

“Who the fuck is that?” Nathan began, having you mentally think the same thing before beginning for your classroom.

“Alright, move out my way!” You hollered, having unfamiliar faces turn to look at you and move away. You even pushed a few away, your impatience and curiosity too high to be bothered with. “Fuckin’ hell...”

As you set your eyes on your desk, you saw something expected but not. There, sitting upon the desk in which you got bored on, was a large, brown pizza box. The room grasp it’s doughy-cheesy scent, feeling it dance into your nostrils as you neared it. Blinking a few times, you swiftly made it to your seat and stood in front of the box. There, lying right on top of it, was a note.

I did say I’d buy you food. I know it’s not lunch yet, but I want you to eat while I serenade you. I bet you finally saw my figure, huh? I wonder if you’ll ever figure me out. But for now, enjoy! -H

H? You swiped your thumb over the initial, noticing something peculiar about it. At the first line where you begin the letter, it slightly curves to the right at the bottom of it. Weird, you thought, as you stuffed the note in your pocket. This was getting closer to who this person is, but you didn’t know anybody’s names who began with an H.

“Get to class, quit piling in front of mine!” Mr. Murphy, the English teacher, barked as the crowd dissolved from his words. The students who were supposed to be in the class were entering while you were grabbing out a slice. As you were about to take a bite, Mr. Murphy was quick to point you out. “Is that why there was a crowd at my door?”

“What? That’s preposterous, Mr. Murphy!” You quickly shut down sarcastically, students eyeing you curiously and hungrily. “They were crowding at your door because they desperately wanted to learn literature from you!”

Mr. Murphy huffed at your sarcasm, resuming his stride over to his desk with students around you laughing. You grinned a bit before taking a bite of the plain cheese pizza. You were disappointed it had none of your favorite toppings, but it felt nice that the stalker boy had gotten you food.

A half hour into class, and your brain was once again tuned out. It wasn’t that you didn’t care for literature. But you had already read all the books for the course and knew them like the back of your hand. It was boring to listen to the things you already knew.

Then, suddenly, cutting through the boring voice that danced in the classroom was gentle guitar strumming.

He’s here. You didn’t want to admit it, but you were excited to hear his voice again. It’s only been a few days, but you genuinely missed his baritenor voice and how well he strummed the instrument. The sincerity with every lyric he sung was something you became fond of, even if contradictory to how you spoke about it with your friends. You just didn’t want to admit to it.

“‘When you try your best but you don’t succeed.’“ Finally, he sung the words you were waiting for. You grinned at the fact that the boy remembered your sadness and chose Fix You of all songs. “‘When you get what you want, but not what you neee-eed.’“

“‘When you feel so tired, but you can’t sleep...stuck in reverrrr-er-erse...’“ You smiled at the way he held the note. His voice was so soothing and calm, with a good amount of rasp that wasn’t overbearing but also not unnoticeable.

“’Lights will gui-ahid-ahide, you home... and ingni-ahi-ahite, your bones...’“ You were in a trance, barely paying attention to the lyrics until he sung your name. “Y/N, ‘I will trrrrry, to fix you.’“

That voice, the way he said my name... That accent, that damn familiar accent. It bothered you greatly that you couldn’t pin point who this stalker was. You dropped your hands on the closed pizza box, listening as the voice dissolved and his guitar playing remained. All your classmates shed their pairs of eyes on you, but you ignored them.

The strumming gradually became quieter until the only sound was the boring voice of your teachers. It made you a little upset, having you slightly long for the stalkers voice once more. It was so gentle and kind, and the smoothness of his tone was so inviting. It just bothered you even more not knowing who this boy was.

“Y/N.” You suddenly caught up with reality as you looked up and met eyes with Mr. Murphy.

“What?” You asked with a sigh.

“If you’re the reason that this boy keeps singing, I might have to kick you out of my class,” Mr. Murphy began, somewhat joking within his stern statement.

“It’d be a pleasure, Mr. Murphy,” you said immediately as you closed your notebook. “Though, do you really want to get rid of your star pupil? Which is fine with me, surely!”

“You are quite the student, Y/N,” the teacher huffed, his hazelnut-gray mustache going up before resting back down after he had pursed his lips. You shrugged, receiving stares from the other students before they diverted their attention once more to the boring lecture.

“So do you like someone?”

You immediately choked on your soda, staring at Nathan in pure disbelief. You were at lunch once more with the girls, with Des beside you and Savannah and Alexis across from the both of you. And unfortunately (without real reason), Nathan had randomly chosen to sit at your lunch table. Right beside you, might you add.

“What kind of question is that, Nathan?” Alexis said, combing through her brown locks to begin a ponytail.

“A genuine one,” Nathan pointed out, keeping his eyes fixed on you as you tried your best not to look at him. “I really am curious.”

“No offense-- actually, I take that back. Take offense,” you croaked, letting out a few coughs to recover from the soda’s attempt to kill you. You hit your chest a little with your fist before deciding you were alright. “Why the fuck are you at our table?”

“I had a question and wanted you to answer it,” Nathan said innocently.

“But I don’t care for your question and don’t owe you an answer,” you groaned, rolling your eyes as you pushed the pizza box from you. “Ya’ll can eat some of this, but leave a slice.”

“Why?” Savannah asked, pulling up her white sleeve before grabbing a tissue to grab a slice. “You’ve already eaten like 3 slices.”

“Reasons,” you simply hummed before putting your arms together on the cold, plastic table before resting your head on them. You were exhausted beyond belief, having all that pizza fill you up and tired you out. But your attempts to sleep were failing as you felt Nathan’s eyes on you. You didn’t need to see to know. “Nathan, stop staring at me.”

“But you look very beautiful, Y/N,” Nathan said softly, having you let out a sigh. You hadn’t known why you were so annoyed with Nathan when Luke says the same things. Luke was probably on a lower level of annoying.

“If I answer your question, will you go away?” You growled, opening your eyes to see Nathan nodding vigorously with a stupid grin. You began sitting up, watching Nathan’s eyes as you did. But then you saw his eyes divert upward, having you glance behind you to see the spoken devil.

“Y/N doesn’t have to answer anything,” Luke spoke sternly, his lanky person just casting a shadow over you. You turned around to see the boy infamous for always being in black. The Gorillaz tee with black skinny jeans and regular black converse. The usual with Luke Hemmings. His hair, though, was a big mess.

“It has nothing to do with you, Lucas,” Nathan said with an eye-roll. “Don’t intrude into conversations that are irrelevant to you.”

“I’m completely relevant!” Luke barked, having him flail his occupied arm. You notice his hand held a large, black bag, having you hear the plastic when his shifts. “Also, don’t fucking call me Lucas. It’s not even my name.”

“Woah Luke,” Des began, looking behind her to stare at the tall boy. “Are you actually losing your chill?”

“Seems like it, right?” Nathan agreed, giving him a taunting grin as he leaned his face against his fist. His elbow was bent and down on the table as he looked up at the fuming Luke Hemmings. “Lucas losing his chill for the second time. By me again, too.”

“Just shut the fuck up already!” Luke yelled, finally getting the unwanted attention from the surrounding students in the lunch room. You let out an annoyed sigh, seeing as eyes were now on you and the two boys you didn’t ask for their presence.

“Simmer down, simmer down,” Ashton began, coming from behind Alexis as he waved his hands down. “Don’t worry, there’s not gonna be a fight.”

“Stop looking like you care,” Michael chimed in, coming from behind Savannah. He took his seat to her right, having Savannah smile as she began playing with some of her blond hair. The students awkwardly stared at one another before returning their attention to their other friends and their food.

Noise rejoiced the lunchroom, having you shake your head before dropping your head on the table. You felt slightly defeated, watching as the girls nibbled on their slices. Their eyes were still diverted to Luke and Nathan, who were glaring at one another.

“Great job causing a scene,” Nathan began, yawning right after as Luke got closer to him. “Sometimes, it’s hard to believe you’re a senior, Lucas.”

“Why you son of a--”

“Woah there, big boy!” Behind Luke came Calum, wrapped his arms around his torso before Luke could do anything. You lifted your head and watched groggily as Calum pulled Luke back and sat him beside Des. Calum winked at Des, receiving a sweet smile from her before sitting next to Luke. “D’you mind not provoking my best friend?”

“Can’t help it,” Nathan said with a smile. “It’s amusing to see how annoyed Hemmings gets.”

“You’re askin’ for a kick in the ass, mate,” Michael chuckled, his joking tone emitting a very serious statement.

“Man, you guys just made my brain swell,” you said, irritation rolling off your tongue. You then grabbed the box of pizza and slid it to Luke.”You get the last slice.”

“What?” Luke said, pleasantly surprised as he widened his blue eyes. “Why?”

“Just take the damn slice and be happy about it,” you hissed, having Luke smile warmly at you before he grabbed the box. You found yourself freezing for a moment from his smile, seeing the way those ocean eyes lit up and how genuinely happy he became. You never understood it, but you felt pretty good when Luke smiled and took your offering.

“Mm,” Nathan hummed, grinning as he stood from the table. Everyone, including yourself, shed their eyes on him as he stuffed his hands in his pockets. “Thanks for the answer, Y/N.”

“What the fuck are you on about?” You asked. But as you did, Nathan surprisingly bent down and planted a kiss on the top of your head. You were quick to slide back, feeling Des at your spine as you placed your hands on your head. Goosebumps danced all over your body, cringing a bit as you looked at Nathan’s mischievous smile.But for some reason, Luke was much more upset than you were.

“What the fuck was that, Holland?” Luke hissed, getting up from the table as well. But Calum grabbed hold of his arm, keeping him close as he attempted to front Nathan. Nathan simply smirked, getting out a snort as he stared into the vexed blue eyes of Luke Hemmings.

“What’re you talking about?” Nathan asked simply, turning around while lifting his hand up to show a peace sign. “Nothing happened.” With that, the hazelnut-haired boy left the table.

“What a cunt,” Michael said simply as Luke slowly took his seat again. Savannah nodded, giving Michael the crust of her slice. He took it with ease and began eating it hungrily.��“We should fhuck ‘im up.”

“Violence isn’t gonna get us anywhere,” Ashton pointed out, having Alexis nod in agreement. “Anyways, Luke didn’t even have a real valid reason to be so angry.”

“Deadass, why were you so pissed, Luke?” Des asked, everyone eyeing the blonde boy as he huffed.

“The real question is how that dude pissed you off the first time,” you murmured, having everyone look at you curiously as well. Luke sighed, tugging the pizza box towards him as he opened it tiredly. Taking the slice in his bare hands, he looked distantly at it for a moment.

“The first time, I don’t want to talk about,” Luke mumbled. “This time... he was bothering Y/N and I didn’t appreciate it.”

“She can handle herself, you know,” Alexis pointed out, having Luke shrug before taking a bit. “She has always handled herself, and you know this.”

“Yeah, I guess,” Luke said as he gulped down his chewed bite. He then looked over at you, a twinkle in the sea that was his blue eyes before giving you a smile. You simply took a sip of your soda, looking away from him to do so. “But defending Y/N comes with the love I have for her.”

You spat out your soda this time, getting some of it on Savannah as you looked over at Luke. All the girls looked awestruck as well from the boys’ words whereas the rest of the boys acted chill, like they had already known this. You felt the soda hang from your bottom lip and drip down to the table, but you were too busy staring at the blonde boy.

“Didn’t I tell you not to be so damn candid, Luke?” You exclaimed, taking the offered tissue from Savannah as you wiped your lips. Luke chuckled before taking another bite. “Fucking hell...”

“But actually, that dimwit did pose a good question,” Luke pointed out as he stared at you. “Do you like someone?”

“Did you ever hear me say I did in the years we’ve known each other?”

“No.”

“Do you think that’s changed?”

“It seems like it,” Luke said with a shrug, having you crinkle your face into a puzzled expression. It was like Luke was either acting stupid on purpose or being far too optimistic and potentially cocky. It made you tempted to throw your soda can at him.

“Oh? And why’s that, Luke?”

“Because you claim to be an enthusiast of energy conservation,” Luke began. “But you’re willing to walk all the way to a tree to receive notes from your secret admirer.”

“Stalker,” you corrected. “Also, I was just curious. I know this guy is gonna be disappointed if we actually meet face-to-face and try to make something happen. He’ll just be too intimidated by my constantly ‘cold’ and vexed being.”

“No offense, Y/N,” Luke began, rising from the lunch table as he moved his hand away to wipe the crumbs from his eaten slice of pizza. He grabbed the box and stood up straight with it in his hands. “But you have absolutely no idea what others see in you.”

“Like you see anything good in me,” you said with a scoff.

“I said I loved you,” Luke began as he gave you a quick wink. “I don’t love bad things.”

Hannah Watches LOSH - Legacy

We start off with Alexis testing/playing around with a mecha-suit she designed - as evident by the logo on it. Her robot, Woodhouse, asks if her method is necessary. To which she replies yes and goes diving off the building she’s on.

Due to reckless driving, she accidentally bashes the wings of the suit, and head to the ground. For Superman to catch.

I’m guessing that suit had a tracker, cuz Woodhouse was literally right there, ready to pick up Alexis. Leaving Superman with the suit and then cuts to the intro theme.

Is Lightning Lad part cat by any chance? Because that is a very cat like pose.

NO ONE CAN RIP ME AWAY FROM THE IDEA THAT PHANTOM GIRL IS BISEXUAL. LOOK SHE IS SCOUTING FOR A POSSIBLE FEMALE DATE. ND SHE KNOWS SUPERMAN HAS GOOD TASTE SO SHE WANTS FEEDBACK FROM HIM.

And then reveal on who Alexis is. Richest Girl in the Galaxy.

What have you done in the past Phantom Girl to be considered an expert. Tell.

And then we get Lightning Lad saying Alexis is out of Superman’s league, which Brainy – of course – rebuffs, saying that no one is out of Superman’s league.

So I’m going of a limb here and guess what a lot of people can just go to the front door of HQ, given that’s what Woodhouse did, to give an invitation to a Charity Event where Alexis will be at. Repaying the favor of saving her from a fate of a pancake.

And then B5 tells him that they were both scheduled for patrol, meaning schedule conflict.

Lightning Lad offers to cover, and asks Superman to see if Alexis has friends.

MY POOR SMART GREEN CHILD

But I’m siding with Phantom Girl. I refuse to read a report that’s 130-132 pages long. I don’t have the patience. Just give us the basics.

And he planned out the looking-out places to take Superman to, that’s cute.

But then when he see’s Superman expression, he says that the plan can be altered. And he sounds so sad.

And then we get another SupermanxBrainy moment

The way B5’s actions change after Superman promises to spend time with him later, it’s so cute~

At the party, B5 is basically the person who keeps texting you when they really shouldn’t be. Much to Superman’s annoyance.

When one of the guys at the party begins to make fun of Superman, in a manner that could be compared to the jock we saw in our first episode, Alexis delivers one of the harshest burns of all time. So harsh the dude had to go off to apply water immediately rather than wait for her to leave.

Bailing the party early, Alexis takes Superman to her building – which she is not supposed to be at unsupervised. And she stole a dude’s bike. Which Woodhouse just gives money to.

Also, she mentioned that the top ten floors look good as new, after saying that an experiment had some problems.

And she has a bunch of robots that just immediately come to her, like pets. Which is cute. And then you think to hard about what a lot of robots but no people implies, like I did. More on that at the end.

Alexis and Superman do some bonding on the overbearing expectations that others have due to Legacy.

They should form a club with Steven Universe. They would get along.

She also confides that she doesn’t have any real goals in her life, wanting to just mess around with her robots and have friends, which she admits she sucks at making.

And we finally see the scavengers.

And more grumpy-Brainy over the fact no one read his report.

I bet it’s been very long for Superman for just relaxing and playing games with another person to the extent he did with Alexis. Legion is too busy to take much time off for that sort of stuff, and they must be ready to go any time. And before then, he was a wallflower due to not being able to deal with his powers in the same way he can now. So, this is probably what he wanted for possibly several years.

Which leads to making this next bit even sadder.

At the point where the team is desperate, where Lightning Lad says it might be a good time to call him, he doesn’t answer.

Which lead to the part that destroyed some B5 fans figuratively, and B5 partially.

This took the longest to make a gif that i can put here. it looked so much better on photoshop.

Ironically, when I first saw this episode – this was the second episode of LoSH I watched when I first saw the series, and it was on a rerun – this part is what made B5 a cartoon crush.

I have a bad habit of wanting my favorite characters to suffer.

Later, we see that B5’s body can repair itself, but it takes a while.

Phantom Girl seems to immediately grasp what happened from Superman.

GOD BRAINY YOU JEALOUS?!

Also I like how B5 and Lightning Lad are just in sync at this part.

Oh it’s like when a friend buys tickets for that event thing for that series/fandom they’re super hyped about and invite you and you know squat about it.

And B5 is like that one person who hates that other fandom.

WOW. THAT’S PEARL LEVEL SALT.

So upon Superman explaining, Alexis takes it pretty well at first, trying to set a limit on how long they’ll hang out. But later we see that she gets carried away. Too carried away. To the point where Superman has to leave in a way that leaves both of them upset.

Back with the green bean, we find out he missed patrol again. Good god, if that was me I would straight up be panicking.

“Oh no…”

But in other news, green bean is salty.

And we know our beloved Puppy is on Rimbor. I hope puppy is coping well in this episode.

Woodhouse calls in to say that Alexis is in trouble, Superman tries to appease Brainy by saying it should be passed on to the Science Police. Phantom Girl seems like she expects B5 to insist on that, but to her surprise, Brainy tells Superman to go. While delivering a reminder to keep the communicator on.

I just love her expression here.

NO SQUEAKY TOY ROBOT!

And then comes the reveal that Alexis faked being in an emergency. Which Superman does not take very happily. And rightfully so, given that he’s supposed to protect people.

But then comes an interesting part to me that said something about Alexis.

Ok let’s lay things out. She got really upset that Superman left her, and she impulsively did something that she knew would get him to come, without thinking it through. She didn’t plan it out through, or at least the bit when Superman found out.

I had a recent discussion with a friend who requested to remain anonymous about what this suggests, which I’ll discuss further down below in character. Cuz if I start here, it’ll take forever for me to finish.

He clearly states that his team mates need him while she just wants a friend. She responds that what she wants is more important.

Seeing that he’s picking the Legion over her, she makes another impulsive decision. Helping the Scavengers.

Alexis then provides a decoy to get Superman to leave the HQ while she and the Scavengers attack.

BRAINY WHAT IS YOUR BODY EVEN DOING?

PFFT

During the fight, we see Lightning Lad isn’t afraid to electrocute people with water. Taking it a little far dude. And Saturn Girl is strong enough to smash metal.

I would feel more horrified about B5’s lab if I didn’t already figure he blows it up all the time.

NINJA BRAINY

Upon returning, Superman is pretty much pissed while Alexis just casually says “HEY!”

“Didn’t think this through, did we?”

Oof. Alexis’ weakness summed up.

“I guess I got a little carried away.”

“YA THINK?!

Unfortunately, Alexis lack of a backup plan leads to her getting caught in her mecha-suit exploding, leading to her hair falling out.

With our first look at Talkron Galtos, we see she manages to repair Woodhouse’s head so that he’s functioning enough to talk to her, where she discloses to him that she knows what she wants to do with her life, and the carving into her desk is enough to imply what that is.

So final thoughts on the episode overall.

Ironically, the episode before had a happier ending than this one. It goes from the tone of the more cheery episodes like Man of Tomorrow to ending in a tone we would expect in episodes like Timber Wolf.

It starts off with Superman finding some companionship in someone outside the Legion and wants to interact with him outside work. And it ends with him having to stop that person from hurting his friends. That isn’t going to be easy to swallow for him.

What’s adds to the tragedy of it all is that if they had found a way around it, Alexis could have been friends with Superman, and maybe with the Legion as well. But she made major errors on her part, as did Superman. Ditching her abruptly probably isn’t the best way to say bye to a friend – he probably could have invited her over to HQ instead. And storming off after finding out she pulled a stunt to get him to come isn’t the best reaction either.

Brainiac 5 was interesting to watch as well. NOT INCLUDING THE ARM INCIDENT. He probably sees Superman as this flawless being at the beginning, saying no one is out of his league, but what happens? He realizes Superman isn’t flawless. He realizes Superman will mess up every now and then.

Something I never noticed before but did this time is the parallels between Alexis and Brainiac 5. Both characters descendants of enemies of Superman, carrying their legacy. Both are genius inventors. Both aren’t the best at socializing. Both try to adjust to sharing time with Superman at first. Both fail with the adjustment, and both get upset. Both blame the other party for stealing Superman away in some degree.

The most noticeable difference is how they handled it.

Brainiac 5 realizes that Superman cares about Alexis, and that he also still cares about the Legion. He knows he can’t have Superman to himself naturally, as the guy cares too much, so he lets him go to Alexis when it seems like she needs him, but tells him to stay in contact.

Alexis didn’t. She didn’t think things through as she manipulated the situation so Superman would come to her. And when that failed, she decided that her only option was to get rid of the legion.

Speaking of Alexis, let’s take a better look at her.

Ho boy. Starts off as potential friend and ends as confirmed threat. But why? Well, I was watching this episode about a month ago, and I noticed something in her office that unsettled me.

She is surrounded by robots and toys. But nothing to speak for any interpersonal relationships. Nothing on family or peers. She’s isolated. Which led me to think that maybe Woodhouse raised her, along with possibly other programmed beings. Her best way to connect to him is with robots and building stuff, leading to further lack of social interaction. What that suggests is that she ended up having social development problems. She can’t connect to others well, as we see at the party.

But Superman showed signs to her that he cared about her. He was probably the first organic thing to care in a long time. So what happens? She latches on, and isn’t ready for being told he can’t be with her, and can’t understand that a line has been crossed.

As for the impulsive behavior, I had discussed it with another friend who requested to remain anonymous. They suggested that Alexis has, possibly, bipolar disorder, which is either undiagnosed or not getting treated.

Now before I continue, I know that media and mental disorders do not have a good relationship, with disorders getting portrayed horribly, usually by the antagonists. But the friend I discussed this has been diagnosed for being bipolar, so I ran this by them several times before posting. I’ll try to discuss this part carefully. But if you feel that I said anything wrong regarding this subject, PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

There are several types of bipolar disorder, but it’s essentially an extreme change in mood, thought, and behavior, with highs/mania, and lows/depression, with the change lasting different ranges of time. A less extreme case of mania is called hypomania.

Mania episodes vary people to people, but symptoms include:

Abnormally upbeat, jumpy or wired

Increased activity, energy or agitation

Exaggerated sense of well-being and self-confidence (euphoria)

Decreased need for sleep

Unusual talkativeness

Racing thoughts

Easily distracted

Poor decision-making

Reckless behavior

Being agitated/irritable

Alexis is upbeat, active, talkative, easily distracted as seen when she and Superman were going around to different places and she lost track of time, has poor decision making and is reckless in this episode. So arguably, she is having a manic episode when this episode. But given we just met her, it’s hard to immediately say that’s the case since we haven’t seen if she’s always like this or not.

My friend said that bipolar disorder sometimes leads to negative emotions making you feel frustrated/angry/sad and you do more destructive things.

So when Superman stops hanging, she makes the reckless decision to trick him into coming, not thinking about what will happen afterwards. And this repeats when she sees him picking the Legion over her.

Still, Alexis had little comprehension on how she should have proceeded to avoid what happened. But there are signs she needed help.

And no signs of her getting that help soon.

Characters in this episode:

Ho boy. Superman did not have it easy. This episode probably left him in a worst place than where it started. But I like how he tried to balance things out between Alexis and the Legion at first. And when he finally gets to unwind fully, stuff happens that forces him to prioritize one over the other. Poor guy.

Brainiac 5 – we see more signs of the crush once again. But also a lot of bitterness. He wasn’t happy to being made second priority in the episode, but he manages to put his own wants aside. And the bit about the report was also funny. But what size was the font? Double sided or one sided? Very important questions.

Phantom Girl’s sass was wonderful to watch once again, and seeing her on the possible look out for a girlfriend just makes me so friggin happy. And she seemed a bit more understanding towards Superman’s situation. Well, given she’s also defined as an expert at the act of “Privileged but misunderstood”, she has expectations as well. Probably not as overbearing as Superman’s but still notable.

Lightning Lad didn’t have any run ins with karma in this episode. The only time he got beat down was towards the end with Alexis, and that was just regular fighting. He still teased Superman at times, but nothing too harsh. And he is protective of Brainy, as seen as he lets the Scavengers have it big time after the arm incident.

Saturn Girl is shown to be very good at hand-to-hand combat, and is very strong. I hear she’s shredded and has an eight pack.

The Scavengers were bland to say the least. We didn’t see them a lot, but maybe if their designs varied more between them, I would have found them more interesting.

Alexis Luthor is another fascinating character to play role of the villain, although I’m not sure if I’d define her as 100% villain in this episode. She wasn’t manipulative in the sense Dr. Londo was, and did seem to care for Woodhouse enough to repair him so that he was aware of what was going on, and really wanted to spend time with Superman as friends. This was her origin story for her villain arc. And it’s very good.

Yu-Gi-Oh! The Darkside of Dimensions reaction

I will not call this a review- it’s more a KEYSLAM OF FEELINGS that I need to get off my fangirl chest while I’m still super hyped from the screening!

Cut for spoilers!

Okay so- first of all going to the screening was fun. As I’m waiting in the queue to get my ticket (while trying to discreetly look around and see if any YGO cosplayers came along) there’s a group of 3 teenage boys behind me and I catch some of their conversation.

“Dude- I can’t see the movie listed? Do you think they’re not showing it?”

“No man, it’s just too ‘indie’ so there not bothering to put it on the board. It’ll be on, trust me, I check before we came.”

At this point I’m internally going !!!! because maybe they’re going to see Yugi on the big screen too??? And then one of them adds really nervously-

“Oh man, what if they say we need like, a kid with us to go see it? What if we’re too old for a YGO cartoon?”

And I’m just smiling and trying not to laugh because you poor thing- I am 10 years older then you and going to see this movie by myself. You will be fine. I nearly said something but in the end decided against it because I didn’t want to embarrass them. XD

And then their was the lovely experience of buying my ticket! I was kinda internally bracing myself, paranoid that I was going to get ‘looks’ from the person on the desk? (ah social anxiety, always popping up right when I don’t want you). In fact I found myself talking to a girl about my age, who BEAMED when she heard what I was going to see, and gushed that she REALLY wanted to see it today too but she had to work! She even made a point of telling me that I should make sure to get my goody bag when I enter the film (I had no idea they were giving away freebies) and hoped I enjoyed myself!

So yes, that was lovely! (btw- in the end no YGO cosplayers were spotted- I was sad)

Now ONTO THE FILM ITSELF- my thoughts.

I LOVED the ‘going to school’ scene. The characterisations were so on point. Joey’s wild bike ride into school is exactly the sort of thing I could see him doing, and I loved how Tristan grabbed onto his bike at the last second and helped him turn it so they could JUST make it through the gates in time. Those two love to give each other a hard time but they are also just RIDICULOUSLY in-synch when it comes to the crunch.

Yugi still walking to school with Tea but now being shy about meeting her at his house was C-U-T-E.

Oh look at Bakura, still dealing with the fangirls.

That scene of the five friends talking about their dreams on the school roof was ADORABLE. I love how they’re all so supportive of each other. Bless these children.

Joey cannot be separated from his duel disk- god these kids are too cute.

‘I can’t believe you got it confiscated for polishing it during class’ ‘I don’t know- it took guts to do it during our maths final’ omg Joey you did not.

‘I know that guys been in our class all year- but what’s his name?’ Guys forget his name just look at his hair and you know he’s going to be a main character.

JOEY GOT HIS DUEL DISK BACK! *throws confetti*

Very sweet moment of Yugi missing Atem and supportive friends being considerate about it and telling him it’s okay. ;A;

JOEY LEAPING THE FREAKING BRIDGE TO HELP SOMEONE HE BARELY KNOWS FROM 5 BULLIES. THIS IS WHY I LOVE THIS GOLDEN RETRIEVER. #EVERYONE NEEDS A FRIEND LIKE JOEY.

DID ANYONE ELSE NOTICE THE KAIBA CORB CONSTRUCTION SIGN HAD A CHIBI BLUE-EYES WEARING A LITTLE HARD HAT??

Oh look the kid with main-character hair can make people vanish and summon a freaky army of glowy eyed demon children.

Kaiba is just being so EXTRA throughout this whole movie and I LOVE IT.

Kaiba is battling Atem and I’m immediately calling that this is one of his holograms.

‘Even his perfectly coifed hair- that was the hardest part’ *PRIDESHIPPING*

Okay but Kaiba crunching his water bottle and immediately demanding that the person who created it is to be fired because ‘no KC product should be so flimsy’ I just- SDFDSFDSDFS

Aww look, Joey’s letting Tristan fix his precious duel disk- he really does trust him.

NOW. WHERE. IS MAI?

.........The dog mascot turned out to be Joey doing a part time job. OF COURSE IT WAS. WHAT IS IT WITH THIS SERIES AND PUTTING JOEY IN A DOG SUIT?? (I cannot speak I keep referring to him as a golden retriever)

SETO HAS HIS BLUE EYES JET. *ticks that off on the YGO movie bingo card* Also Mokuba is adorable- have I mentioned this yet? Because he is.

...........Did Seto just get hit with magic strong enough to warp/destroy dimensions and just SHRUG IT OFF.

I’m dying- this is the most powerful magic in the world and Seto just swatted it away like BITCH DON’T TOUCH THIS. Diva’s face is priceless.

I mean I know his new super duel disk was supposed to be doing something too but...come on we all know it was all just Seto’s willpower/ego right?

MORE DUELING.

.......Seto’s strategy seems to be SUMMON MORE DRAGONS.

Seriously how many OP’D versions of blue eyes does this man now have in his deck?

THE THOUGHT OF LOSING AND NOT BEING ABLE TO SEE ATEM AGAIN WAS ENOUGH TO LET HIM SUMMON A FREAKING GOD FROM THE OTHER SIDE. #HE HAS IT SO BAD #THIS MOVIE COULD BE A PRIDESHIPPING FIC

Lets give it up for Seto ‘I need alone time to deal with this puzzle so I’m gonna build a FREAKING SPACE STATION you can only reach by SPACE ELEVATOR’ Kaiba. #King of being EXTRA.

More mystical/tragic backstory stuff keeps being revealed about Diva and his sister/their family. I really wish I could say I cared but I...really didn’t? I felt so indifferent about Diva and his plight. I just wanted to get back to Yugi, the gang, and the Kaiba brothers.

BABY BAKURA IN A FLASHBACK NOTHING COULD BE BETTER THEN-

I TAKE IT BACK WE NOW HAVE BABY YAMI-BAKURA IN A FLASHBACK. THIS IS THE BEST LOOK AT THE TINY HOMICIDAL SOCIOPATH GO.

I just noticed Joey’s duel disk is SIGNED slay me.

Joey’s trapped in a memory world that’s disintegrating around him. I’m so betting that a ‘friendship’ memory turns out to be so strong it’s ‘unbreakable’ and saves him.

IT. WAS. A. MEMORY. OF. YUGI/ATEM.

I really wanted Yugi/Atem to like hold out a hand and pull Joey to safety though?? I mean the dramatic posing was ACE don’t get me wrong but I wanted hand holding.

Personally I read this scene as Atem taking advantage of the fact Joey was between the living and the dead (dying?) to reach out and give him a nudge in the right direction. It gave me so many feels but I REALLY WISH HE’D HELD OUT HIS HAND AND WE’D GOT TO SEE JOEY GRASPING IT AND ATEM PULLING HIM UP.

JOEY THANKED YUGI MY HEART

.........Did Kaiba just shoot down a jet WITH A PERSON INSIDE IT with his blue eyes???

I didn’t read that wrong right?? THERE WAS A PERSON IN THAT JET AND SETO BLEW IT UP. I DIDN’T SEE A PARACHUTE.

*squints* ...Did Seto set that jet up to crash just so he could shoot it down directly over his stadium with his dragon and show off how AWESOME his new system is?

................okay then I guess the movie is just glossing over that.

Yugi tries to gently show Kaiba (Kaiba who at my current count has: ripped up an ancient landmark, invented a new duelling system, kidnapped a teenager, held a tournament and built a SPACE STATION and millennium puzzle solving robot just to see Atem) that, sorry buddy Atem is really-super gone.

Kaiba immediately REJECTS THIS. #he really REALLY has it bad.

MORE DUELING.

Diva + Ring = Much badness.

See I couldn’t see Atem coming back from the dead just for a rematch with Kaiba (sorry Kaiba) but ‘the world is ending’? Yeah, that seems serious enough.
